- 1:20Speaker 2: over this side of the table, you've got our three
- 1:22Speaker 2: broke tips to share with us. We've got a juicy
- 1:25Speaker 2: money dilemma. As always, this week we're going to be
- 1:28Speaker 2: talking all about getting started with shares, and we're gonna
- 1:31Speaker 2: be unpacking something you slid into our DMS about. So
- 1:33Speaker 2: this week we're talking about friends who borrow money a
- 1:36Speaker 2: little bit spicy. But I have also been told that
- 1:40Speaker 2: when we get to the end of this episode, our
- 1:42Speaker 2: producers sam And and Lisa have cut together what they're calling
- 1:46Speaker 2: bloopers from the year that has been scary.
- 1:50Speaker 4: It's my favorite things that they did last year.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, but like I was mortified. I was like,
- 1:54Speaker 2: that's not that's that's literally just showing everybody who I
- 1:58Speaker 2: really am.
- 2:00Speaker 3: We're not safe.
- 2:01Speaker 2: We are not saying nobody is safe. Anything said in
- 2:03Speaker 2: the studio does apparently not stay in the studio. So
- 2:06Speaker 2: we have a bloops reel to share with you at
- 2:08Speaker 2: the very end of these episodes, So guys, don't go anywhere,
- 2:12Speaker 2: or if you're really bored already.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Just skipped to the end.
- 2:15Speaker 2: But before we get there, my loves, how has your
- 2:18Speaker 2: week been? It is the last week of twenty twenty three.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Beck enjoying it? Not enjoying it?
- 2:24Speaker 3: Where are we at? Yeah?
- 2:25Speaker 5: Really enjoying it? I just got back from Sydney, saw
- 2:27Speaker 5: the Family.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Oh how good is family? Yeah?
- 2:30Speaker 5: It was really lovely and I drove there, didn't fly
- 2:34Speaker 5: because you know, you guys know I hate flying, Yes,
- 2:36Speaker 5: and so it was just like a beautiful, therapeutic eight
- 2:40Speaker 5: and a half hours on the same road, the whole away.
- 2:44Speaker 5: But I really did enjoy it. And now I'm just
- 2:46Speaker 5: chilling until the office opens back up again.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Yeah, what's your go through road trip album? Because that's
- 2:52Speaker 4: like a you've got eight hours? What do you like?
- 2:54Speaker 5: Totally I'm big podcast up. Obviously I'll listen to She's
- 2:57Speaker 5: on the Money.
- 2:57Speaker 3: You're quite literally a podcast.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Yeah, But what I try and do is sit in
- 3:02Speaker 5: silence for as long as possible.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Really, I do do that.
- 3:05Speaker 5: I do because like, let's say, I can get through
- 3:07Speaker 5: an hour and a half and then when I start
- 3:09Speaker 5: listening to something then it feels like, do you know,
- 3:13Speaker 5: like I've not been myself, Like.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I bore myself for one hour.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Do you like talk to yourself in your hesh?
- 3:22Speaker 3: I think about things. I think about things. I look around.
- 3:27Speaker 2: At the same site you've seen every single time driven
- 3:30Speaker 2: to Sydney and.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Back, they're still or inspiring.
- 3:33Speaker 5: You know, there's something about an something about an open
- 3:37Speaker 5: road in summer jest, you totally get it.
- 3:39Speaker 4: But see, I would put on like a country like
- 3:42Speaker 4: you do a country album.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I would do either the Taylor Swift eras to a
- 3:46Speaker 2: set list, which I have been listening to on repeat
- 3:48Speaker 2: on Spotify. I also read something recently. Do you know
- 3:52Speaker 2: what I can't say? I read something recently that's a
- 3:54Speaker 2: blatant lie, Jessica. I saw something on TikTok recently that
- 3:58Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Story checks out more alright.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Taylor Swift trained for her Eras tour by running on
- 4:04Speaker 2: a treadmill while singing her entire Eras Tour set list. Wow,
- 4:09Speaker 2: and I can't wait for people to start training for
- 4:11Speaker 2: marathons that way.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Honestly, if there was a way to get me to run,
- 4:15Speaker 4: that would be Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I can organize that, jess No worries. I know you've
- 4:20Speaker 2: already got a walking pat in your house. Halfway there,
- 4:23Speaker 2: but I'd either listen to that or we'd just be
- 4:26Speaker 2: listening to really gruesome murders the entire way there.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I'll be in a different car.
- 4:32Speaker 2: You don't know what you're missing, Jessica.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Actually I'm also not a true crime person, but anyway, No, no, please,
- 4:37Speaker 5: you are not my people, no Misjessic.
- 4:41Speaker 2: How has your week being good?
- 4:42Speaker 4: Just been relaxing, eating gingerbread, eating lots and lots of gingerbread.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I went boxing day shopping, snagged some deals. We love that,
- 4:52Speaker 4: just kind of taking the break because we only have
- 4:54Speaker 4: a little quick one, just to enjoy it. Be aro
- 4:56Speaker 4: od friends, go to the beach, chill out, lovely good things.
- 5:00Speaker 4: How are you.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I'm just trying to eat this blueberry muffin because I
- 5:04Speaker 2: definitely haven't had enough food over this festive season. I
- 5:08Speaker 2: went down to the beach to spend some time with
- 5:10Speaker 2: my family. My parents are down there, my sister came down.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I've been hanging out with my husband. We're kind of
- 5:16Speaker 2: like in that, I don't know, we're waiting for a
- 5:18Speaker 2: baby to arrive. They're coming in February, at the end
- 5:21Speaker 2: of February, we think, So that's kind of it's just
- 5:24Speaker 2: a bit weird. I feel like we're in limbo. We're
- 5:27Speaker 2: planning for a baby. I'm uncomfortable. I'm not having the
- 5:31Speaker 2: best time in the heat. I'm really puffy, like all
- 5:34Speaker 2: of those things. Really grateful obviously, like every pregnant person
- 5:38Speaker 2: we're all grateful for it, but like, guys, I'm not
- 5:40Speaker 2: gonna lie pregnancy sucks. Which one of you was gonna
- 5:44Speaker 2: be like, Oh, by the way, here's a laundry list
- 5:46Speaker 2: of symptoms you're definitely gonna get and like it's not fun.
- 5:50Speaker 2: So I feel like I can be grateful for being
- 5:51Speaker 2: pregnant obviously cannot wait for this baby to arrive, but
- 5:55Speaker 2: also cannot wait to not be pregnant.
- 5:57Speaker 4: You're a pitiful beach ball.
- 6:00Speaker 2: If anyone ever tries to tell me ever again like
- 6:02Speaker 2: pregnancy is magical, I'm gonna be like, you're a liar,
- 6:05Speaker 2: A dirty liar.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Yeah, that seems fair.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I just don't know how anyone enjoys this anyway. Let's
- 6:09Speaker 2: get into the episode, Miss Jess Gricci, What have you
- 6:12Speaker 2: got when it comes to community money, wins and confessions?
- 6:15Speaker 4: First one is a little bit niche, but it comes
- 6:16Speaker 4: from Emma, and she said money win. Late October, I
- 6:19Speaker 4: received an email from my payroll saying I owed them
- 6:22Speaker 4: over three grand as I was overpaid on my birth leave.
- 6:26Speaker 4: My child is now almost two, by the way. It
- 6:29Speaker 4: didn't seem right to me, so I went back and
- 6:30Speaker 4: checked all my payslips and requested that they double checked
- 6:33Speaker 4: by doing a full audit, which they did. Fight this
- 6:36Speaker 4: week they email me to say, actually, you don't have
- 6:39Speaker 4: an overpayment at all. We actually owe you two hundred
- 6:41Speaker 4: dollars as we underpaid you. And also, by the way,
- 6:44Speaker 4: we didn't pay you forty five hundred dollars into super.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Well you're on birth leave.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, excuse me.
- 6:49Speaker 4: She said. I'm so happy I stood my ground and
- 6:51Speaker 4: didn't just agree to pay it back. That is a
- 6:53Speaker 4: big mistake.
- 6:54Speaker 2: That is not just a big mistake, that's embarrassing.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Yeah, so they sneaky double check you or receipts always people.
- 7:01Speaker 3: That gives me the ick for that employer.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Totally.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Really, if I did that to you, Jess, would you
- 7:07Speaker 2: like try and leave? Because I would.
- 7:08Speaker 4: I think I'd be going. You work for finance, yea
- 7:13Speaker 4: extra embarrassing for me.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Oh my god. Imagine if I've messed up like my
- 7:18Speaker 3: super or my taxes or something.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Embarrassing.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Outsource it, guys, It's outsource it so I can blame
- 7:26Speaker 2: other people. Next, I've got a money win from Sue
- 7:28Speaker 2: who said I paid for a normal entry ticket to
- 7:31Speaker 2: a festival on the weekend, but somehow I ended up
- 7:33Speaker 2: with a VIP ticket around my wrist.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Love us.
- 7:38Speaker 2: She didn't didn't tell us how that happened.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe they just gave her the wrong one.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And she was like, would you say something? No, you would.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Would exactly not in a situation where they're not losing out.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Do you know if I went to the shops and
- 7:53Speaker 4: they didn't scan something through, then probably company, I supparent.
- 7:59Speaker 2: And then there's me calling over the attendant of the
- 8:01Speaker 2: calls check out the I'm like, so this didn't go
- 8:04Speaker 2: through that, like when I put it in, like it
- 8:06Speaker 2: didn't change the measurement. Could you just like, oh, scan
- 8:09Speaker 2: it in? Because now I'm anxious And they're just like,
- 8:12Speaker 2: you should have stolen it.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Everybody else steals it. That's cute.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Well, I have a good win to come actually on
- 8:18Speaker 4: that theme, but firstly one from Shay who said money win.
- 8:21Speaker 4: I opted out of capitalism for Christmas. I didn't spend
- 8:24Speaker 4: money to travel to see people that made me miserable.
- 8:27Speaker 4: I didn't spend money on stuff people don't need or
- 8:29Speaker 4: want out of obligation or guilt. And I didn't spend
- 8:32Speaker 4: money or my health on booze that would be used
- 8:34Speaker 4: to cope with dealing with family drama. Amazing, weeen we
- 8:38Speaker 4: love to see it.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Also, just because they labeled as family doesn't mean you
- 8:41Speaker 2: have to spend any time with them. If they don't
- 8:43Speaker 2: nourish you, bye, absolutely completely cut them out.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Next, Skyly said, I bought a twenty four pack of
- 8:49Speaker 4: Huggies nappy pants usually twenty two dollars using a discount
- 8:53Speaker 4: on door dash, and only paid eighteen dollars.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Okay, that's good, that's a money win, already.
- 8:57Speaker 4: A win, but it gets better because they were out
- 8:59Speaker 4: of stock, so they substituted it for a pack of
- 9:02Speaker 4: forty eight. Who saved twenty one bucks and I didn't
- 9:05Speaker 4: even have to go to the shops.
- 9:06Speaker 2: As someone has recently been buying nappies. That stuff is wild. Actually,
- 9:11Speaker 2: side note, can I play a little game with you too?
- 9:13Speaker 4: Oh please?
- 9:14Speaker 2: I've been planning for a baby, and as you guys know,
- 9:17Speaker 2: I'm a spreadsheet girly. I'm going to need to know
- 9:19Speaker 2: how many nappies and newborn news is each and every
- 9:22Speaker 2: single day, and I'm probably gonna put it in a
- 9:24Speaker 2: spreadsheet calculate how many nappies I need at what size
- 9:27Speaker 2: and when and where and how much do nappies cost?
- 9:29Speaker 2: And what is the best price that I could potentially get.
- 9:33Speaker 2: So the real question here is goes how many nappies
- 9:36Speaker 2: does a newborn news each and every single day?
- 9:40Speaker 3: My gut says like six, Yeah, my gut says four. Four?
- 9:44Speaker 2: You reckon, Well it's actually nine or ten?
- 9:46Speaker 3: So you are you using sixty.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Plus nappies a week? Who when you have a newborn?
- 9:52Speaker 2: And I was like, nah, that math can't be right.
- 9:54Speaker 2: So I call one of my midwife friends and I
- 9:56Speaker 2: was like, hey, just wondering, like, you know, trying to
- 9:58Speaker 2: plan one. They will like just buy a I could
- 10:00Speaker 2: have nappis and buy another packet when you start to
- 10:02Speaker 2: run out. And it's like, well that seems quite logical.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I want to do the maths. I want to work
- 10:07Speaker 2: out what these nappie's going to cost me. Yep, And
- 10:09Speaker 2: it's nine or ten a day. It goes down as
- 10:13Speaker 2: they start to be able to like control themselves a
- 10:15Speaker 2: little bit better, But like, sure, what do you mean
- 10:17Speaker 2: ten a day?
- 10:18Speaker 4: That is excess?
- 10:19Speaker 3: That's a lot. That's a lot of.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Nappies so many ways, and I wonder she was so
- 10:25Speaker 4: excited that she got them for half the price.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, because you just go through them. And then
- 10:30Speaker 2: it makes me think about like landfill and whether they're
- 10:33Speaker 2: biodegradable or not, and whether I should be doing a
- 10:35Speaker 2: cloth nappy parenting thing, and then I have to manage
- 10:38Speaker 2: my entire life around clock. I just it's a lot,
- 10:41Speaker 2: is a lot.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Oh my goodness.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Anyway, carry on, Jess, what else have you got.
- 10:44Speaker 4: I've got a win from Ashley, who said I was
- 10:46Speaker 4: in need of a gift idea, so I decorated a
- 10:48Speaker 4: mug with polymer clay and I kept one as a
- 10:51Speaker 4: gift to myself and she put.
- 10:52Speaker 2: A cute that's so cute.
- 10:55Speaker 3: That's so.
- 10:58Speaker 4: And then lastly I have a wind from Beck. He said,
- 11:01Speaker 4: I went to buy two meters of fabric at spotlight
- 11:03Speaker 4: and they tried putting it through and the girl said,
- 11:05Speaker 4: it appears we don't sell this, just take it.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Wow, that is so cool.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Her boss is like, I saw now sing.
- 11:17Speaker 4: No, we don't know what happened.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I love that.
- 11:19Speaker 4: That's everything I got.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Oh, I think that that is a very good wrap.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Miss Beck sayed, what broke tips have you got for us?
- 11:25Speaker 2: Like the last three of the year, you're feeling the
- 11:28Speaker 2: pressure to make these really good.
- 11:30Speaker 3: A little bit trujular.
- 11:32Speaker 2: She doesn't care look at her face. She's like, no
- 11:34Speaker 2: v all my stuff is good.
- 11:35Speaker 5: Also, I'm very organized, so I think, I think, I feel.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Okay, you've never let us down before.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Thank you. That's so nice. You need to happen.
- 11:43Speaker 2: So ten out of ten, what's your first broke tip
- 11:46Speaker 2: of the week?
- 11:47Speaker 5: Okay, so this first broke tip is maybe more of
- 11:50Speaker 5: a life hack, but also definitely a money saver. So
- 11:53Speaker 5: this one's from Emma, who says that what she does
- 11:56Speaker 5: basically is on mealk prep days she bulk a bunch.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Of brown rice, white rice, whatever it is.
- 12:04Speaker 5: It turns out to be a lot cheaper than say,
- 12:07Speaker 5: buying like a one kilo bag every now and then,
- 12:10Speaker 5: usually not using it all. You end up leaving in
- 12:14Speaker 5: the back of the pantry, like one of those big ones.
- 12:16Speaker 3: There's really big ones, you know, there's ten kilo ones.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I don't need ten kilos of cooked rice.
- 12:21Speaker 3: You just got a bolt cook it all. Freeze it.
- 12:24Speaker 3: It lasts forever. Where do you put it?
- 12:26Speaker 4: Though?
- 12:26Speaker 2: I mean I didn't freeze, o, Jessica, that's where you freeze.
- 12:29Speaker 3: True, you don't have to cook the whole ten I
- 12:31Speaker 3: was gonna.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Say, a picture you trying to get ten killed, like
- 12:33Speaker 4: that whole big ass sax worth of rice into your face.
- 12:36Speaker 2: So I think a life wind would be just like
- 12:38Speaker 2: maybe cook like one kilo of it, and I would say,
- 12:41Speaker 2: probably don't freeze it all together either, like you know,
- 12:44Speaker 2: individually glad wrap the packets.
- 12:46Speaker 5: She gets send the photos all individually glad wrapped, which
- 12:49Speaker 5: is great because I feel like, even when we're cooking rice,
- 12:51Speaker 5: we over estimate how much we need end up chucking
- 12:54Speaker 5: the rest out.
- 12:55Speaker 2: But you can freeze rice. You can you don't need
- 12:57Speaker 2: to chuck it out.
- 12:58Speaker 5: But often you'll be like using the chicken curry spoon
- 13:01Speaker 5: in the rice and you're like, ah, it looks a
- 13:03Speaker 5: bit gross, let's just chuck it out anyway, not.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Gross if it's definitely not gross.
- 13:06Speaker 5: But I feel like when you you know, when you're
- 13:09Speaker 5: just doing that for per meal, yeah, you end up
- 13:12Speaker 5: just chucking it out. So bolt cooking a bunch of rice,
- 13:15Speaker 5: it's very feeling. It'll you'll need in times of need when.
- 13:19Speaker 2: You're just way cheaper than buying that pre prepared microwave rice.
- 13:24Speaker 2: You're basically making your own microwave rice much cheaper because
- 13:28Speaker 2: one you don't have to pay it, but two you're
- 13:29Speaker 2: probably going to put it in the microwave any way
- 13:31Speaker 2: to reheat it, So what's the problem.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Totally better for the environment as well. Love it, money win,
- 13:37Speaker 3: life win.
- 13:38Speaker 2: I like that one absolutely.
- 13:39Speaker 5: This next one comes from Alex who recently moved and
- 13:43Speaker 5: had a lot of kind of like half used toiletrees,
- 13:47Speaker 5: some were full, but ones that she wanted to donate. Unfortunately,
- 13:50Speaker 5: you can't really donate toiletrees due to hygiene reasons and
- 13:54Speaker 5: other things once they've been used. That's true, but this
- 13:58Speaker 5: is also kind of just we're talking about this maybe
- 14:00Speaker 5: last it might have been last week or maybe a
- 14:02Speaker 5: couple weeks ago, where she kind of set up this
- 14:05Speaker 5: thing with her friends where it's like a toiletry swap.
- 14:08Speaker 5: So when we were talking about this a couple of
- 14:10Speaker 5: weeks ago, we were saying, like a skill swap of sorts.
- 14:14Speaker 5: So you could do this with really anything with your friends,
- 14:16Speaker 5: if you're moving, if you've got a bunch of little
- 14:18Speaker 5: things that you need to declutter, just make it a
- 14:20Speaker 5: thing in your friendship group if you have one, or
- 14:22Speaker 5: in your community Facebook group or wherever, just try and
- 14:25Speaker 5: set up a little yeah toiletry swap little things like that.
- 14:28Speaker 5: She also says that this is really honestly helpful for
- 14:32Speaker 5: some if you're ever running low on toilet tries. Hotels
- 14:35Speaker 5: and hostels have stacks of abandoned ones in lost property,
- 14:38Speaker 5: so that is also an option if you're, like literally
- 14:41Speaker 5: for someone maybe doing it tough living on the street,
- 14:44Speaker 5: go to a hotel, go to a hostel and see
- 14:46Speaker 5: if they have anything in lost property. They probably even
- 14:48Speaker 5: have clothes and stuff in there that you could maybe take.
- 14:51Speaker 5: But that's something I'd never really thought of before, lost property.
- 14:55Speaker 4: From going to landfill or something like that.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Absolutely, absolutely so smart.
- 14:58Speaker 2: When you say, like a toilet tree swap, I laugh
- 15:01Speaker 2: a little bit because that was from Alex, and my
- 15:03Speaker 2: little sister's name is Alex, and like, I think my
- 15:06Speaker 2: little sister's version of a toilet tree swap is coming
- 15:09Speaker 2: into my house, opening my skin take and going I'll
- 15:12Speaker 2: take this, this and this, and I just really want
- 15:14Speaker 2: to try this they and then all of my stuff goes.
- 15:16Speaker 2: There's no swapping, there's just taking, but it's all my
- 15:20Speaker 2: half opened product that I might actually be enjoying. But
- 15:23Speaker 2: she thinks she'd enjoy more.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yes, of course. Oh well that's a money win for her.
- 15:27Speaker 2: That's a little sister win, I think.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I love that.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Okay, So my broke tip is I probably should have
- 15:34Speaker 5: mentioned this last week because it's almost the summer's almost over.
- 15:37Speaker 3: But basically, this summer, what are you doing? You gatekeeping?
- 15:41Speaker 3: I know I kind of gave all people on the
- 15:42Speaker 3: show to gatekeep.
- 15:43Speaker 5: It's you.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I don't believe it. I never saw this in my life.
- 15:46Speaker 2: I didn't see this coming either. We're gonna have to talk.
- 15:49Speaker 5: No, well it's not too late because holy moly, Struke
- 15:53Speaker 5: Bowling and Archie Brothers are all offering ten dollar games
- 15:56Speaker 5: and she beats over the summer.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Oh that's kind of cool. Yeah, if you have cute date.
- 16:02Speaker 3: It's a cute date, it's cheap date.
- 16:03Speaker 5: You can take your friends, you can take your family,
- 16:05Speaker 5: maybef you have little kids and you don't want to
- 16:07Speaker 5: be blowing the budget over the school holiday.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Also, maybe want air conditioned space to do something for
- 16:13Speaker 2: a while if you don't have aircon at home.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Exactly right, exactly right, So yeah, take advantage of that.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I think I might.
- 16:19Speaker 2: You think you might thin you're going to go bowling.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I haven't been bowling in here, you know. Oh I think, actually, Jess, yeah,
- 16:26Speaker 2: exactly what I was going to say. Oh, that was messy.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Let's not talk about it. I don't need to hear
- 16:31Speaker 3: about this off air.
- 16:32Speaker 2: We went to bowling, but it was bowling in a bar.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Dangerous, Yeah, very dangerous. None of us are very good
- 16:38Speaker 3: at bowling.
- 16:39Speaker 2: So we were there for the festivities.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Yeah, very much.
- 16:42Speaker 2: So well, I love those. Let's go to a really
- 16:45Speaker 2: quick break on the flip side. We're going to be
- 16:46Speaker 2: talking about getting started with shares. We've got a spicy
- 16:49Speaker 2: DM about friends who borrow money, and the.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Countdown to the bloops is on.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I'm really scared, but also kind of excited to hear
- 16:58Speaker 2: how many times I've messed up on the podcast or
- 17:01Speaker 2: said things maybe I shouldn't have. So don't go anywhere, guys.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Welcome back, guys. Let's take a listen to the Money Dilemma.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 17:15Speaker 2: can't solve? The Sheese on the Money Team is here
- 17:18Speaker 2: to help. Every week, we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 17:21Speaker 2: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 17:24Speaker 2: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 17:27Speaker 2: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 17:29Speaker 2: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 17:32Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 17:35Speaker 7: Hey guys, I'm made thirty five year old female with
- 17:39Speaker 7: a little bit of surplus money and I'm wanting to
- 17:42Speaker 7: explore perhaps purchasing shares EFTs, don't know what they are.
- 17:49Speaker 7: Would love your advice on where to get started, and
- 17:54Speaker 7: really just basic knowledge that we should have as women
- 17:58Speaker 7: to get into the final market.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Oh well, hello, and welcome to She's on the Money,
- 18:05Speaker 2: the podcast Millennials who want Financial Freedom. So we have
- 18:09Speaker 2: five hundred plus episodes of I would say, financially, some
- 18:14Speaker 2: of it's questionable. The Friday episodes, you might want to
- 18:17Speaker 2: give a little bit of a skip if you're not
- 18:19Speaker 2: too interested in what we call our personalities. But on Wednesday,
- 18:24Speaker 2: we do what we call a deep dive, and each
- 18:25Speaker 2: and every single deep dive, the entire purpose of that
- 18:29Speaker 2: episode is to educate you on a topic that maybe
- 18:31Speaker 2: you haven't discussed before, or maybe a topic that you
- 18:34Speaker 2: have seen before, but no one's ever broken it down
- 18:37Speaker 2: in a way that actually made sense. To you and
- 18:39Speaker 2: spoke to you in a way where we're peers having
- 18:42Speaker 2: a chat. You're not silly for not knowing this stuff,
- 18:44Speaker 2: You've just never learned it before. I'm excited because I
- 18:48Speaker 2: can answer this so quickly and so easily. My friend,
- 18:51Speaker 2: we did an entire investing series with our friends from
- 18:54Speaker 2: Chaerz's recently and even the year before. So if you're
- 18:58Speaker 2: interested in learning about share or ETFs, what I would
- 19:01Speaker 2: do is key into your podcasting app. Any podcasting app
- 19:04Speaker 2: does the job, and I would key in she's on
- 19:06Speaker 2: the money shares or she's on the money ETFs, and
- 19:10Speaker 2: an episode that is directly related to that topic is
- 19:13Speaker 2: going to come up. I'm a little bit biased. If
- 19:16Speaker 2: I were you, I would really start at the beginning
- 19:18Speaker 2: of our podcast because the way that we've structured it
- 19:21Speaker 2: is really so that you can kind of build those foundations.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And now we're nearly five years in. Isn't that wild?
- 19:28Speaker 2: Nearly five years of content in, But we've kind of
- 19:31Speaker 2: leveled up the content in a way where sometimes you
- 19:33Speaker 2: do have to go back to basics and listen to
- 19:35Speaker 2: a couple of the older episodes to go, let me
- 19:38Speaker 2: collect all of these basic foundations that I need to
- 19:41Speaker 2: create my financial literacy toolkit and then build from there.
- 19:45Speaker 2: But excitingly, the team and I sat down a couple
- 19:48Speaker 2: of weeks before Christmas and jess, what do I make
- 19:51Speaker 2: you do?
- 19:52Speaker 4: We put together a spreadsheet? Is anyone?
- 19:56Speaker 2: No one is surprised? But what was in the spreadsheet?
- 20:00Speaker 4: All year's worth of content?
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah, And the reason we did that was because I
- 20:04Speaker 2: just said, look, I'm obviously having a baby this year.
- 20:07Speaker 2: We obviously already put lots of thought, energy and effort
- 20:09Speaker 2: into the content that we create. But I was like,
- 20:12Speaker 2: what did we do like five years ago that might
- 20:14Speaker 2: have changed? Like let's review that. Okay, we've got, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 2: an investing series that we're doing in twenty twenty four.
- 20:20Speaker 2: All right, we know that we wanted to build on
- 20:23Speaker 2: one another. So if you went and just listened to
- 20:25Speaker 2: those investing episodes, you get like a juicy amount of
- 20:28Speaker 2: knowledge that kind of builds on each other. I didn't
- 20:31Speaker 2: want to be in a position where, you know, five
- 20:33Speaker 2: years in you would think that content might get repetitive.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I am also surprised guys that we still have so
- 20:38Speaker 2: many topics we haven't tackled. But I just wanted to
- 20:42Speaker 2: make sure that we were nailing it, and if we
- 20:44Speaker 2: had already done it, we went back and we checked
- 20:47Speaker 2: the episode and said, is this outdated? Do we need
- 20:49Speaker 2: to update it? You know, is there anything that has changed?
- 20:52Speaker 2: And in the world of investing, so much has changed.
- 20:55Speaker 2: So I'm excited for I guess the structure of next
- 20:58Speaker 2: year to roll out, because it's basically going to be
- 21:01Speaker 2: a here's an investing guide, here's a savings guide, here's this,
- 21:05Speaker 2: that and the other, and.
- 21:06Speaker 3: We're really keen.
- 21:07Speaker 2: So from my very very biased perspective, I would be
- 21:10Speaker 2: starting with our content. There's obviously a heap of other
- 21:14Speaker 2: podcasts you can listen to Girls that Invest My Millennial
- 21:17Speaker 2: Money are two of our friends of the show that
- 21:20Speaker 2: we know and love. There's also a whole heap of
- 21:22Speaker 2: investing books out there. I obviously already have three books, guys,
- 21:26Speaker 2: It's going to be five in twenty twenty four because
- 21:29Speaker 2: having a baby, it's just not enough for one year.
- 21:33Speaker 2: So I'm going to be releasing a book in May
- 21:35Speaker 2: and then another book in November, which is very very exciting.
- 21:38Speaker 2: But also all of our friends have finance books as well,
- 21:41Speaker 2: and if you just go into any bookshop, the finance section,
- 21:44Speaker 2: have a look, read the blurbs on the back, find
- 21:46Speaker 2: one that resonates with you, because to me, that's the
- 21:49Speaker 2: most important thing is that you're learning from someone who
- 21:52Speaker 2: talks to you in a tone of voice that you enjoy,
- 21:54Speaker 2: because otherwise you're not going to listen, you're not going
- 21:56Speaker 2: to engage with it. So that is my advice. Do
- 21:59Speaker 2: you guys have ourthing to add to that? Because I've
- 22:01Speaker 2: just basically done a sales pitch on the She's on
- 22:05Speaker 2: the Money podcast for you to listen to the She's
- 22:07Speaker 2: on the Money podcast.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I think you've had it. I was just gonna say,
- 22:09Speaker 4: if you want to get the investing the shoes in
- 22:11Speaker 4: the Money book, we'll pop thelink in the show notes
- 22:13Speaker 4: to make it easy for you.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Smart lovely, Yes, credit.
- 22:16Speaker 7: We do.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I've got your girls.
- 22:18Speaker 3: And for me, I was going to basically say the
- 22:20Speaker 3: same thing as Ve.
- 22:20Speaker 5: I think that you do a really good job of
- 22:22Speaker 5: covering basics and also intermediate and also advanced. So yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 5: go back and have a little listen.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Go back and have a listen. Also, thanks for the listens.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Love you guys. Let's move into the next part of
- 22:34Speaker 2: the show. This is the second last part of the
- 22:37Speaker 2: show today because we've got to get to the bloops.
- 22:39Speaker 2: But as always, you guys have slid into our dms
- 22:42Speaker 2: about a spicy topic, which is friends who borrow money.
- 22:45Speaker 2: So here is the DM my friends. Hello, she's on
- 22:48Speaker 2: the money. I need advice, my friend, You're in the
- 22:51Speaker 2: right place. We have advice, we have opinions. We're going
- 22:54Speaker 2: to have a little bit of trauma. One of my
- 22:56Speaker 2: best friends always asks me to borrow money. It used
- 23:00Speaker 2: to be like twenty bucks here and there, but lately
- 23:02Speaker 2: she's asking for more than one hundred dollars at a time,
- 23:05Speaker 2: saying she desperately needs it to pay rent, she doesn't
- 23:08Speaker 2: have a job, and that I'm the only person she
- 23:11Speaker 2: can turn to for help. I do feel bad, and
- 23:13Speaker 2: she has a really fractured relationship with her parents, so
- 23:16Speaker 2: living at home is not an option. In the past,
- 23:19Speaker 2: I've mentioned I feel really uncomfortable her asking me for money,
- 23:23Speaker 2: yet I always seem to give it to her because
- 23:25Speaker 2: I am guilted into it. In brackets with a face
- 23:27Speaker 2: palm emoji. I've even suggested that I can help her
- 23:30Speaker 2: get a job and assist with her applications, but she
- 23:33Speaker 2: always declients. Not long ago we went out for dinner
- 23:36Speaker 2: and where the bill came, she didn't have any money
- 23:38Speaker 2: to pay. She said she didn't want to let me
- 23:40Speaker 2: down and was embarrassed to say she couldn't afford it,
- 23:42Speaker 2: so came anyway. I obviously had to pay for the
- 23:46Speaker 2: entire thing. I need this to stop, but also want
- 23:49Speaker 2: to be sensitive with her, as I know she's currently struggling.
- 23:52Speaker 2: What do I do.
- 23:54Speaker 5: She didn't mention if the friend pays it back at
- 23:58Speaker 5: her in a reasonable time, which I know is not
- 24:02Speaker 5: the really the point, but.
- 24:04Speaker 4: A little bit, a little bit. There's a big difference
- 24:06Speaker 4: between a friend who borrows money all the time but
- 24:08Speaker 4: will get it back to you. When I can add
- 24:10Speaker 4: a friend who borrows money and doesn't pay back.
- 24:12Speaker 5: And doesn't pay it back. And I'm wondering she's not employed.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Maybe she does have other income and can pay it back,
- 24:17Speaker 5: But personally, I really want that information because I'm thinking
- 24:22Speaker 5: of me and my best friend Olivia, who I.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Always I'm going to nickname her money bags.
- 24:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I literally always borrow money from her, but I
- 24:33Speaker 5: also paid back quickly, and we have like a sibling
- 24:35Speaker 5: relationship where it's not awkward to say no to each other.
- 24:38Speaker 3: So I think that's different in a way.
- 24:40Speaker 5: But I'm still kind of like listening to this and
- 24:42Speaker 5: just wondering what the dynamics like. Yeah, and is she
- 24:46Speaker 5: too uncomfortable to say a firm no, a staunch no.
- 24:51Speaker 3: It is awkward.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Your friend is obviously struggling, but that's not your responsibility.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah, this person seems like a really good friend, Like.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I can tell that they're a good friend by the
- 25:01Speaker 2: way that it's written. Yeah, because they obviously are worried
- 25:04Speaker 2: about them struggling. They don't really want to say no,
- 25:07Speaker 2: but they're also like, I can't keep doing this. I've
- 25:09Speaker 2: had enough of this, like it needs to end. But
- 25:12Speaker 2: they also don't want to, like say a firm no,
- 25:15Speaker 2: because if they say a firm no, it might be
- 25:16Speaker 2: like a line in the sand with the relationship, and
- 25:18Speaker 2: clearly they don't want to draw that line. Yeah, it's
- 25:21Speaker 2: really really hard, Jess, what would you do?
- 25:23Speaker 4: I think it's hard because it's one of those things
- 25:26Speaker 4: where to me, it sounds like her friend is going
- 25:30Speaker 4: to be reliant on this until she no longer can be.
- 25:33Speaker 4: So I wonder if cutting it off is in a
- 25:37Speaker 4: way to benefit the friend as well, like to be like,
- 25:41Speaker 4: you can't rely on me for these things, particularly with
- 25:43Speaker 4: the dinner for example. It's not as if your friend
- 25:47Speaker 4: is saying, hey, I need money to pay my rent
- 25:49Speaker 4: or I'm going to be homeless. Like your friend did
- 25:50Speaker 4: not need to come out to dinner with everybody, And
- 25:54Speaker 4: I understand that she was embarrassed, But there are ways
- 25:56Speaker 4: that you can tackle it and approach it, and I
- 25:59Speaker 4: think any friend be understanding of the fact that you
- 26:01Speaker 4: can't afford to do it. So I feel like perhaps
- 26:04Speaker 4: if our listener was to draw the line in the sand,
- 26:07Speaker 4: it might in a way kind of help your friend
- 26:10Speaker 4: to have to let you know it's fine or flying right,
- 26:13Speaker 4: like I'm pushing you out of the nest. You can't.
- 26:15Speaker 4: You gotta fly. You got to figure it out. But
- 26:17Speaker 4: at the same time, I do feel like I have
- 26:20Speaker 4: to flag that that has the potential to be volatile,
- 26:23Speaker 4: and it has the potential for your friend to react
- 26:25Speaker 4: emotionally and be really upset. So it's something I think
- 26:29Speaker 4: that you do have to be prepared for that if
- 26:32Speaker 4: that's what you want to do. But I completely agree
- 26:34Speaker 4: with our listener. If I was in that situation where
- 26:37Speaker 4: I wasn't comfortable lending to a friend and I had
- 26:40Speaker 4: expressed that and they weren't being respectful of that. I
- 26:42Speaker 4: would find that upsetting. It's a totally different thing, like
- 26:45Speaker 4: you were saying in your example with you and Live.
- 26:48Speaker 4: You know, if she's happy to do it and she
- 26:50Speaker 4: knows you're going to pay it back and everyone's fine,
- 26:52Speaker 4: then there's no reason to not behave that way. But
- 26:55Speaker 4: particularly I think the fact that she is expressed to
- 26:58Speaker 4: her friend that she's uncomfortable and they're continuing to do it.
- 27:01Speaker 4: An That's what I don't really like because normally in
- 27:04Speaker 4: this situation, i'd say, oh, like talk to your friends,
- 27:06Speaker 4: like let them know how you're feeling, blah blah blah.
- 27:08Speaker 4: But it sounds like she's done that and their friends
- 27:11Speaker 4: not changing the behavior, And I think that that is
- 27:13Speaker 4: really disrespectful and unkind, particularly when it comes to luxuries
- 27:18Speaker 4: not necessities.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Yeap, Yeah, like going out for dinner.
- 27:21Speaker 4: You don't need to go out for dinner, babe.
- 27:23Speaker 2: So I was really empathetic of the story, like and
- 27:25Speaker 2: of the question. I was like, this really sucks, like
- 27:28Speaker 2: we're in the middle of a cost of living crisis.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Like I totally get it. You know, we don't know
- 27:32Speaker 2: why her friend doesn't have a job. There could be
- 27:34Speaker 2: really valid reason as to why she doesn't have a job.
- 27:37Speaker 2: There are six million I could come up with on
- 27:39Speaker 2: the spot as to why she can't work at the moment,
- 27:41Speaker 2: and that's fine. I'm assuming that there's not like a
- 27:45Speaker 2: massive issue with not working. Given the friend has suggested, Oh,
- 27:48Speaker 2: I can help you with the applications, Jess, like I
- 27:50Speaker 2: could feel them in and you know, help you along
- 27:52Speaker 2: that process. I'm assuming that there's nothing that you're aware of,
- 27:56Speaker 2: that is all. I don't want to say. Fine, but
- 27:59Speaker 2: like you're letting them get away with it, okay. I
- 28:01Speaker 2: think it's taking it a step too far when you're
- 28:04Speaker 2: going out for dinner and just expecting the other person
- 28:06Speaker 2: to pay. I feel like you're then in a position
- 28:10Speaker 2: where you're being taken advantage. It's crazy to me. I
- 28:12Speaker 2: think it's really rude, Like honestly, like, obviously money is
- 28:15Speaker 2: fickle and all of that, but like, yeah, okay, you
- 28:18Speaker 2: were embarrassed. You know, it's more embarrassing putting your other
- 28:21Speaker 2: friend on the spot and being like, well, now they're okay,
- 28:23Speaker 2: I don't have any cash. You're gonna have to cough
- 28:25Speaker 2: up two times the amount you thought you were going
- 28:27Speaker 2: to have to for dinner. Now, like what if I'd
- 28:29Speaker 2: only budgeted enough for one, Like now you're putting that
- 28:32Speaker 2: burden on your friend and expecting that to be okay,
- 28:35Speaker 2: Like I get embarrassment exists, Like please, don't get me wrong.
- 28:38Speaker 2: We've spoken so many times on the show about how
- 28:42Speaker 2: you know, in theory you should just say no. But
- 28:45Speaker 2: then there's me who also I'm a people pleaser. Yes,
- 28:48Speaker 2: you're also people pleaser. Like I know that if I
- 28:52Speaker 2: asked Jess to brow money, she'd.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Be like, oh, that's really weird.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Okay, now, yeah, of course fee Like even if you know,
- 28:57Speaker 2: but even if you didn't want to do it, because
- 29:00Speaker 2: with just to night people pleaser is we would do
- 29:01Speaker 2: it anyway. And I'm not saying that that's the right thing.
- 29:04Speaker 2: But I also think that when it comes to money,
- 29:06Speaker 2: we should just be honest about our thoughts and feelings
- 29:09Speaker 2: and all of that kind of stuff.
- 29:10Speaker 3: So I get it.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I don't think I could say no to a friend
- 29:13Speaker 2: because I do want to help. I'm that type of
- 29:15Speaker 2: person that goes no, no, no, let me fix it, like
- 29:17Speaker 2: I want to help. But at the same time, like,
- 29:21Speaker 2: then there's the line of like, hey, can I borrow
- 29:23Speaker 2: one hundred dollars? Like I'm so sorry, I have to
- 29:25Speaker 2: meet rent? Happening all the time, and you're going, oh,
- 29:27Speaker 2: should becoming reliant on it becomes rude, It becomes entitled
- 29:32Speaker 2: when you're then going out for dinner and just being like, oh,
- 29:34Speaker 2: by the way back, can't pay?
- 29:36Speaker 3: What are you doing?
- 29:38Speaker 4: And if they can't work, I think there are so
- 29:41Speaker 4: many other options, because again I agree with.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Last month you did your or this end of the
- 29:46Speaker 2: month's really there, but you did your find one thousand
- 29:49Speaker 2: dollars without finding a new job.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Well yeah, And that's the thing is, like there is
- 29:53Speaker 4: so many options if, as you were saying, not everyone
- 29:56Speaker 4: can work, and that's totally valid, but even outside of
- 29:59Speaker 4: government support, that is available selling stuff a Facebook market place,
- 30:03Speaker 4: returning cans. I did surveys, do you know what I mean? Like,
- 30:06Speaker 4: there are so many options that you can make enough
- 30:09Speaker 4: money to get you buy Like, even just doing surveys,
- 30:11Speaker 4: I was making fifty bucks a week, one hundred bucks
- 30:14Speaker 4: a week slay, which is just from your phone. And
- 30:17Speaker 4: not everyone is going to want to dedicate or have
- 30:19Speaker 4: the time to dedicate. But if you're in a spot
- 30:21Speaker 4: where like I really genuinely don't have the money. I
- 30:23Speaker 4: think there are options that you can explore. And is
- 30:26Speaker 4: it going to pay you five thousand dollars a month?
- 30:29Speaker 4: Obviously not. But if you just need money to get
- 30:31Speaker 4: buy if you just need money to go to dinner,
- 30:33Speaker 4: so you're not relying on your friend, there are definitely
- 30:36Speaker 4: things that I think she could be exploring that aren't
- 30:39Speaker 4: putting her friend in this.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Position honestly borrowing money. I think it's a fickle topic
- 30:45Speaker 2: because so many people are going to be opinionated on it.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Some people will say absolutely not. I'm very much of
- 30:52Speaker 2: the opinion I will lend money to friends, but I
- 30:55Speaker 2: see it as a if they pay it back, nice
- 30:58Speaker 2: But it's you either get paid back or you lose
- 31:01Speaker 2: a friendship. And like to me, I'm always like, okay,
- 31:03Speaker 2: well here it is, but I'm never going to chase it,
- 31:07Speaker 2: if that makes sense. Some people are completely for it,
- 31:10Speaker 2: like Beck, you've got a friend where that relationship exists
- 31:13Speaker 2: and it works. We can't argue with that, and that's
- 31:16Speaker 2: absolutely fine. But again, money is inherently emotional. It's when
- 31:20Speaker 2: it steps out of you know, being I'm so glad
- 31:24Speaker 2: that I have this support.
- 31:25Speaker 3: I'm so glad.
- 31:26Speaker 2: You know, I'm grateful to being entitled, and this feels
- 31:30Speaker 2: like it's gone from being like I'm grateful to being entitled.
- 31:33Speaker 2: If that started happening to me, I'd want to cut
- 31:35Speaker 2: the friend off to It'd be like you are taking
- 31:36Speaker 2: the absolute mickey. Get in the bin, yeah, hard agree,
- 31:39Speaker 2: whatever else say they go. The first question we asked was,
- 31:43Speaker 2: do you think the friend is potentially taking advantage of
- 31:46Speaker 2: this person? Ninety eight percent of you said yes. If
- 31:50Speaker 2: this was you, would you end the friendship? Thirty percent
- 31:54Speaker 2: of you said yes, I don't need that in my life,
- 31:56Speaker 2: but seventy percent of you said no, I'd certainly set
- 31:59Speaker 2: some boundaries though. If yes, what did you do when
- 32:03Speaker 2: someone asked you to borrow money? Sixty six percent of
- 32:06Speaker 2: you said I gave it back and they paid me
- 32:08Speaker 2: back nice. Twenty percent of you said I gave it,
- 32:11Speaker 2: but I wish I didn't because I never got it back,
- 32:14Speaker 2: and fourteen percent of you said I said I wasn't
- 32:17Speaker 2: in a position to lend to them. If you did
- 32:20Speaker 2: lend money to a friend, we said how much? Thirty
- 32:24Speaker 2: six percent of you said the most common amount to
- 32:26Speaker 2: lend was ten to twenty bucks, thirty five percent of
- 32:29Speaker 2: you said fifty two hundred bucks, eighteen percent of you
- 32:32Speaker 2: said two hundred to five hundred dollars, and twelve percent
- 32:35Speaker 2: of you said more than one thousand dollars. Wow, that's
- 32:38Speaker 2: so much money.
- 32:40Speaker 4: That's the other thing is her friend's asking for one
- 32:42Speaker 4: hundred bucks at a time. That's a lot.
- 32:43Speaker 2: That's a lot.
- 32:44Speaker 4: That's not a Hey, my card's not working. Can you
- 32:47Speaker 4: spot my eight dollar latte?
- 32:49Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, it's an eight.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Dollar nothing on nothing. Sorry, I'm taking eight dollar latte.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Don't know where she's drinking.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Not too shocking, I reckon.
- 32:58Speaker 2: I spent on average like six seven dollars a yeah,
- 33:01Speaker 2: not too far off for own non coffee drinking gal, which,
- 33:04Speaker 2: by the way, suspiciously close, suspiciously close, and also like
- 33:09Speaker 2: weird that you don't drink coffee. Maybe twenty twenty four
- 33:11Speaker 2: be her year. Maybe maybe all these bad things keep
- 33:14Speaker 2: happening to you because you don't drink coffee.
- 33:16Speaker 4: That all right.
- 33:17Speaker 2: We also said have you ever had to ask a
- 33:19Speaker 2: friend to borrow money? Thirty four percent of you said yes,
- 33:22Speaker 2: and sixty six percent of you said no.
- 33:24Speaker 3: It's been nice.
- 33:25Speaker 4: I feel like most people will have. I don't think
- 33:28Speaker 4: they're asking to borrow money. Like I've definitely borrowed money
- 33:30Speaker 4: off feet where I've been somewhere. It happened when we're oversea.
- 33:32Speaker 4: I was like, my card's not working, and.
- 33:33Speaker 2: I'm kind of funny.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I already ordered the Starbucks, can you faine?
- 33:37Speaker 2: It was kind of funny because she's so embarrassed and
- 33:39Speaker 2: obviously I was like, yeah, like it's fine, but like
- 33:43Speaker 2: it was the fumble at the register of her being
- 33:45Speaker 2: like I only have my phone.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Ah, I really have my phone? Yeah, no, dress, Well,
- 33:50Speaker 3: nothing is more stressful.
- 33:51Speaker 4: It is, and I feel like an incidental borrow of money.
- 33:54Speaker 2: So let's be honest. It wasn't even a latte. It
- 33:56Speaker 2: was like a strawberry Assaye refresher and I'll.
- 33:59Speaker 4: Stand by I'm pretty sure. But that is I think,
- 34:03Speaker 4: vastly different to habitual burrowing, which is what this person
- 34:07Speaker 4: is doing. And it just sounds like she doesn't respect
- 34:09Speaker 4: our listener, which is not.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Friendship is built on respect, and right now, that's what
- 34:14Speaker 2: is lacking in this friendship. So I do feel like
- 34:17Speaker 2: your friend is taking advantage of that. And while it's
- 34:20Speaker 2: not the easiest thing to say, I think you do
- 34:22Speaker 2: need to go. Hey, Like, honestly, I just start off
- 34:25Speaker 2: with the truth. Hey, I just really think that this
- 34:27Speaker 2: has become quite habitual. Honestly, I don't know how to
- 34:31Speaker 2: explain it to you, but I do feel a bit
- 34:32Speaker 2: taken advantage of. Like I feel like, you know, the
- 34:35Speaker 2: time we went out for dinner, you're not telling me
- 34:38Speaker 2: in advance. It just puts me in a really tricky
- 34:40Speaker 2: spot because it changes the rest of my week and
- 34:42Speaker 2: I had to change my budget and I had to
- 34:44Speaker 2: you know, just explaining it. I'm not saying that they
- 34:47Speaker 2: deserve an explanation at the end of the day.
- 34:49Speaker 3: No is no.
- 34:50Speaker 2: But as a people pleasing girly, I want to explain
- 34:54Speaker 2: to you why this is, you know, upsetting me or
- 34:56Speaker 2: you know, not the right thing to do. And then
- 34:59Speaker 2: how can I wor with you to make sure that
- 35:02Speaker 2: you're okay and I'm okay and we're all in a
- 35:04Speaker 2: happy spot, because I really don't want to lose this friendship.
- 35:06Speaker 3: But like, if this just keeps.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Happening, I'm going to end up really frustrated and then
- 35:10Speaker 2: you know, I'm probably going to avoid your calls or something,
- 35:12Speaker 2: and I don't want to get to that, So what
- 35:14Speaker 2: can I do? And I feel like kindness in that
- 35:17Speaker 2: circumstance because do you know what your friend probably hasn't
- 35:21Speaker 2: even noticed. Yeah, they just expected you to be there.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Yeah, so true.
- 35:25Speaker 2: So let's talk about what the community said, because it's
- 35:28Speaker 2: always the spicy stuff in the dms. So your response
- 35:32Speaker 2: is when we said, what are your two cents, we're
- 35:34Speaker 2: pretty wild.
- 35:35Speaker 3: My friend from high school.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Asked me to borrow fifteen thousand dollars for a house deposit.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I obviously told her I didn't have any cash.
- 35:44Speaker 4: I mean fair, that's crazy.
- 35:46Speaker 3: That's a lot.
- 35:47Speaker 4: That's like a whole different thing. Again, that's a different story. Yeah.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Someone else said, I have a personal rule that I
- 35:53Speaker 2: never lend money that I would be upset about not
- 35:56Speaker 2: getting back. Yeah, that's all. That's like your Someone else said,
- 36:00Speaker 2: you're not responsible for your friend. You need to set
- 36:02Speaker 2: strong boundaries because that's how she's going to learn. Someone
- 36:06Speaker 2: else said, how about in the future, just choosing to
- 36:09Speaker 2: arrange free activities, so when they ask to go out
- 36:11Speaker 2: for dinners, suggest to walk because they can't afford it anyway,
- 36:14Speaker 2: and there will be no tricky conversation. Someone also said,
- 36:19Speaker 2: just stay friends. But hang out at the park or
- 36:22Speaker 2: free spaces byo snacks and drinks, and then say sorry,
- 36:25Speaker 2: I don't have the cash.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Next time they ask.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Someone else said, if she's a real friend, she won't
- 36:31Speaker 2: be offended if you say you're unable to help her financially.
- 36:34Speaker 2: That could be a good way of pushing back, which
- 36:36Speaker 2: I would agree. Like, you know, if it's a bit confrontational,
- 36:39Speaker 2: you're like, I don't really want to tackle this. I
- 36:41Speaker 2: would just go next time they ask to cash, be like,
- 36:43Speaker 2: oh my god, yess, I would love to, but I
- 36:45Speaker 2: actually don't have one hundred dollars cash. Sorry, And then
- 36:50Speaker 2: if they say you do, just be like, look, I
- 36:52Speaker 2: really don't like you know, heberbills have come up and
- 36:54Speaker 2: raw her up. Because even if you do have that
- 36:57Speaker 2: cash in the bank, it doesn't mean it is free. Like,
- 37:00Speaker 2: it doesn't mean it's able to be lean out. It
- 37:03Speaker 2: doesn't mean that you're okay with doing that. And saying well,
- 37:06Speaker 2: I actually just don't have the cash to lend out
- 37:07Speaker 2: at the moment doesn't mean that you're flat broke. It
- 37:10Speaker 2: just means you don't have cash to lend out at
- 37:12Speaker 2: the moment, and that is okay, totally There's been a
- 37:16Speaker 2: lot of people saying exactly what I say, So I'll
- 37:18Speaker 2: end on this because I think we all want to
- 37:19Speaker 2: get to bloops. But someone else said I would never
- 37:23Speaker 2: give someone money and expect it back. It's now a
- 37:25Speaker 2: gift to see it that way because it will never
- 37:28Speaker 2: ruin your friendships, Amen, which I.
- 37:30Speaker 3: Think is really important.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I mean, obviously it's way better to pay back. Please
- 37:34Speaker 2: pay it back. Don't just expect friends to lend out
- 37:37Speaker 2: money and then it be free money. But I think
- 37:39Speaker 2: having that mindset is going to keep your friendships intact.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Do you have anything to add, guys, please please Our
- 37:48Speaker 2: producers Sam and Anna Lisa unfortunately record us when we
- 37:52Speaker 2: don't think we're being recorded, and they don't dispose of
- 37:55Speaker 2: footage that we think has been disposed of where we've
- 37:58Speaker 2: messed up. And they have said that they have put
- 38:00Speaker 2: together once again another Blue Briel for us to listen to.
- 38:03Speaker 2: So how that we dive straight in. This will be
- 38:06Speaker 2: the first time we are hearing it as you guys
- 38:09Speaker 2: hear it, because they wouldn't let us hear it before
- 38:11Speaker 2: to prepare our responses, which I think is quite rude
- 38:14Speaker 2: to talk about it.
- 38:20Speaker 8: It's been another year if She's on the Money. And
- 38:22Speaker 8: while it's been a big one, you'll be happy to
- 38:24Speaker 8: know that behind the scenes, a lot of things have
- 38:27Speaker 8: stayed the same despite our best efforts. The girls keep getting.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Gussie when it comes to the inn.
- 38:34Speaker 4: I had that gurgle that was disgusting.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I was just going to burn, but like a deep
- 38:39Speaker 2: burd did you hear that? It was very sexy?
- 38:43Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 38:45Speaker 8: And by girls we mean all the girls, even Victoria's
- 38:49Speaker 8: dog Lucy.
- 38:50Speaker 4: And so this outlawing of Lucy. Good god, did she fart?
- 38:55Speaker 4: Oh sorry, that's really right? Good, Yeah, she's right there. God,
- 38:59Speaker 4: I got her like a with and I was just
- 39:00Speaker 4: like stopped working.
- 39:03Speaker 8: We are, of course, led by Victoria, the pioneer of professionalism,
- 39:07Speaker 8: who would never ever struggle with technology.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Oh did I just press? Did I backspace?
- 39:12Speaker 6: Ordered I posted I like had my microphone on while
- 39:15Speaker 6: I was like in thing, and it transcribed me into
- 39:19Speaker 6: the comments section on our Money Wins thread And it
- 39:23Speaker 6: started from Helloa malcom to She's on the money Like.
- 39:26Speaker 8: Beck joined us this year, and she brought a new
- 39:29Speaker 8: energy to the show, as well as new interpretations of
- 39:32Speaker 8: legal boundaries.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Actually, I don't know if this is legal, but if
- 39:35Speaker 2: you take the step.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I don't know if this is legal.
- 39:39Speaker 4: I shouldn't. Perhaps I should not, yeah, saying it if
- 39:41Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 39:42Speaker 8: We've had the normal fun with everyone's stumbles.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Miss Jessic, Can you take us through our community money
- 39:47Speaker 2: wins this week?
- 39:48Speaker 4: Absolutely more busy?
- 39:50Speaker 7: Yes?
- 39:52Speaker 4: Deep? Or was she just stressed? She's the top.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Of our company to the public, So we'll keep sixty
- 40:02Speaker 2: percent of it. We're going to issue forty percent of
- 40:04Speaker 2: it to the We're going to issue forty percent of
- 40:06Speaker 2: it to the public. One is from Cassie, who is
- 40:10Speaker 2: talking about rewards cards and kind of sorry, it's gotta get.
- 40:19Speaker 8: You guys don't get to see how unhinged the girls
- 40:21Speaker 8: can get if they have to do a whole day
- 40:23Speaker 8: of recording.
- 40:24Speaker 3: But well, I'll just let this speak for itself.
- 40:28Speaker 4: Where's your energy?
- 40:29Speaker 2: Where's your passion? More passion, more passion, more energy energy.
- 40:37Speaker 8: It's truly been a big year, and we expect that
- 40:39Speaker 8: parenthood for Victoria will surely.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Only make things calmer than this.
- 40:43Speaker 8: In twenty twenty.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Four, here are Beck's top tips on creating your perfect portfolio.
- 40:49Speaker 4: All right, so from.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Some Harry Potters whisper shit.
- 40:58Speaker 8: Now. Some of you may have noticed a new word
- 41:01Speaker 8: made it into Victoria's vocabulary this year.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Some have said the excessive use of the word sleigh was.
- 41:07Speaker 8: Too much, But what you all didn't realize was that
- 41:10Speaker 8: v was actually getting into the Christmas spirit early.
- 41:18Speaker 9: Slight slap slack slave like slap, slate slap slap slap
- 41:22Speaker 9: sleigh slave slave slife slap slafe, sligh like slight, slay
- 41:27Speaker 9: slafe like slay slay.
- 41:29Speaker 8: His to another smart and very very silly year in
- 41:32Speaker 8: twenty twenty four, which she's on the money.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Well, that was slay my.
- 41:40Speaker 4: Favorite episode we've done. Oh yeah, I.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Love I'm always very impressed with commitment. Sam has to
- 41:48Speaker 2: one saving those files because like you don't go back
- 41:51Speaker 2: like I don't know, maybe he did go back through
- 41:53Speaker 2: all of it, but not only saving them, but also
- 41:56Speaker 2: like getting the right tone, like did you hear.
- 41:59Speaker 4: That sleigh and he puts.
- 42:01Speaker 3: It into the right time.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what a good audio engineer does for you guys.
- 42:06Speaker 5: That was not as scary as I thought it would be.
- 42:09Speaker 3: I thought it'd be way more scary.
- 42:10Speaker 2: But honestly, like even in that Sam couldn't use all
- 42:13Speaker 2: of the illegal stuff you keep suggesting on.
- 42:15Speaker 5: The show, that's true, twenty twenty four, it would just
- 42:19Speaker 5: be like beet beat beat beat, because like we'd just
- 42:21Speaker 5: be like censoring out everything you say.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I remember that for next year.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Beck's like okay, so yes, have you heard of
- 42:27Speaker 2: the five finger discount?
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yes, we have broad tips. He steal everything one out
- 42:33Speaker 3: of ten.
- 42:35Speaker 2: We will not not slip up again. But it has
- 42:38Speaker 2: been a year. I am very grateful to have shared
- 42:41Speaker 2: the podcast studio with the three of you this year.
- 42:44Speaker 2: I feel like we have thrived. I feel like we
- 42:46Speaker 2: have also survived. But I also just I'm so grateful,
- 42:49Speaker 2: Like I just I love what we do. I cannot
- 42:51Speaker 2: believe we are heading into our fifth year of podcasting
- 42:54Speaker 2: next year, and we have so much planned for twenty
- 42:57Speaker 2: twenty four, and I just I can't wait to share it.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Like I kind of want to just like dump it
- 43:00Speaker 2: on everyone all in January, but according to our marketing
- 43:04Speaker 2: and our content.
- 43:05Speaker 3: People, that's not how it works.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Damn.
- 43:08Speaker 2: But no, have the most beautiful new year, guys. I
- 43:12Speaker 2: cannot wait to see you bright and fresh and early
- 43:16Speaker 2: come the new year. And don't forget subtle plug, we
- 43:19Speaker 2: are running your best year yet. Online goal setting session
- 43:23Speaker 2: with me, launching on the seventh of January. So if
- 43:25Speaker 2: you're like still feeling a little bit stodgy, not sure,
- 43:28Speaker 2: if you have a heap of motivation, I've got you.
- 43:30Speaker 2: We're going to set goals together so that you two
- 43:32Speaker 2: can have your best year yet, because I just I
- 43:34Speaker 2: have a feeling about twenty twenty four. Guys, it's our year.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I got a good feeling. Got a good feeling.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Well, enjoy the rest of the day, guys, because it
- 43:43Speaker 2: is coming very close to the end of twenty twenty three,
- 43:45Speaker 2: and we will see you fresh and early in twenty
- 43:48Speaker 2: twenty four. Love you, and we'll see you around.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Tapping you guys. Bye bye.
