- 0:00SPEAKER_02: I'd like to welcome everyone back to our podcast unloaded.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: This is Michael Seahorn.
- 0:05SPEAKER_02: Shannon Morrow.
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: And I am happy to be here today.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: How about you, Shannon?
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: It's uh it's been a crazy ride.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: More so for you.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: Shocker.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: News a little bit.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: I like to avoid stuff.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: I like boring.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure if that's ever in my deck of uh stuff, but um yeah, you know, Shannon and I have been catching up real quick before the podcast.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: A lot of stuff's been going on, and um today we can dive into it a little bit more uh in depth, which um it's it's very refreshing um to just be able to talk about some of the things that have occurred.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Finally.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Finally, yeah, thank you for that at long last.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Previously you've had to be pretty vague, you've had to understandably and dodge some stuff, omit a lot, and and now that there's been a lot of resolution to be able to uh be on the other side and speak more freely in a more concrete man manner.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: That's that's what our listeners want, is like, oh, actual details.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm gonna give some details today.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: So it's it's no surprise, I'm sure, to like you um were alluding to.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: We've we've we've talked around a lot of things that I've been dealing with probably for the last six weeks, better part of six weeks.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: And um, a lot of it has revolved just around some internal things that I've been dealing with, rather it's just choices that I've made in life, or um the uncertainty of leaving something old for something new.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: And you know, that's always a difficult thing, I think, for most humans.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: It's change is tough.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Some people like it, some people hate it, some people fear it, maybe some people don't care about it.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: I I try not to lean one way or the other.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: I my whole life's been nothing but change, so I think I adapt pretty well to some of that change, depending if it's my choice or not, obviously.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: But um I I've been really struggling.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: So I've I've been at my current uh company uh coming up um actually here pretty shortly uh for eight years.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: It's been the longest tenured position I've held outside of the military.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: And um it's been a uh it has been an amazing opportunity for growth uh both professionally and personally.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: And um I've done a lot of good things there.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: I've had the absolute pleasure of having one of the most amazing staffs that I mean anybody could really hope for, to be honest with you.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Um and through all of it, uh it's been challenging, but I I think that's fair for whatever you do in life.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: It's there's challenge in everything, right?
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Um so but over the last six weeks, um some things were occurring and some things were not aligning with the way I um they just weren't aligned with with what I believe I want to be a part of in the future.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: And there are some things that I had to um really deal with internally.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: And it was a very this is probably the most difficult choice I've had to make in an extremely long time.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: And coming to the decision to leave something that you've worked so hard at for so long and being at the center, if you will, of an massive amount of growth in those eight years, not just personally, but through the company.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: You know, going from a small company to a medium-sized company and being a part of that growth cycle is it's an amazing ride to be on.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: It's um I mean, man, I mean, Shan, you've heard many, many stories over the last eight years.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's a lot of challenges, but there's a lot of reward, both monetarily and personally.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Um, but you know, last week I really was like, all right, enough's enough.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: I had some things in the works um behind the scenes, and um two of those things came to fruition, and I was at that crossroad, if you will, of you either commit a hundred percent to stay where you are and you get through this, or it's it's time to move on.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: So I chose.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: And uh this Monday I chose to uh put my two-week resignation in at my current company.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Wow, man.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, congrats.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: Thank you, man.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: And it's um it's it's crazy, man.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: It's just like I don't th I think we we've talked about this before, man.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: It's I don't think sometimes we can really know the amount of weight and pressure that something is causing us until you make that that flip.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: No, exactly.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Until you're out from under it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: And that happened on Monday.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: You know, and um by the time today, uh this Friday today, when we're doing our recording right now, um, I can tell you unequivocally, man, I just feel like I just feel like a new person, man.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: That's uh a uh really big change.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, professionally, your position as the vice president, your past eight years, all the work you've put into it, you know, I mean, being such a part of its growth and everything you've experienced there, and to end that to resign and say, Yep, I'm that's that's it, I'm done, you know, and then and it's only been what like a week four days, yeah.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a work, not even a full work week, you know, and uh and already you're experiencing such relief.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: And I imagine that will continue, you know, next week, the week after, you know, is especially once I think you're net your last days a week from today, next Friday, and when you finally step out of what used to be your office and turn in what used to be your truck and your keys and everything, when you walk away no longer the vice president and no longer associated or affiliated with your with this company, you know, it's then the next couple weeks, even month or so, I I think that weight will continue.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: I think you'll be pretty surprised, like how how much freer you feel.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's you know what the funny thing too is you know when I when I consciously made the decision that I'm moving forward with my ending this uh journey, it's funny how things happen you know in this world, this universe that we live in, in our minds.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: You know, because there was quite a few times after I made the decision, there were a few very clear moments, man, where I was trying to waffle, if you will, a little bit.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: And I was like, well, maybe I could if I stayed, I could maybe, you know, do this, and maybe I could you know focus on this a little bit more, maybe I could just you know suck it up and and and deal with it.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: And then I would I would use that because there was a couple of loose ends that I was still waiting on answers from.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: And as you would have it, man, it's like you know, the universe and God or or whatever it is people believe in, it was like, oh, you got that problem, here's your solution.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: And it was dealt with.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: And I was like, oh man, I oh shoot, well, okay, well, there goes that.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: And I go, okay, well, I got one more issue that's still it's a pretty big issue, right?
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: No, handled, taken care of.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: Uh so both of the main issues that I was really kind of teetering on, trying to figure out, well, maybe I could stay, maybe I don't have to leave.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: No.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Universe came through loud and clear, and it was like, we got it.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: You're taken care of.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: Those are those are very small things, and they were handled, they were met, and then that left me back to where I was originally at.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: I made a decision, I'm sticking with that decision, and you know, ultimately, like I said, on Monday, moved forward.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Wow, yeah, huge.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I feel about uh 200 pounds lighter today.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I will continue through this week and and on.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's been a good um, it's been a good week.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: I you know, this week was uh uh filled, you know, when I woke up Monday, you know, like any anybody out there, you know, if you've ever had to, you know, turn your resignation in, there's there's a lot of different paths that that could look like.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: You never know what's gonna happen on the other end, you don't know how the other party's gonna deal with it, you don't those are all unanswered, all right, because we don't know the future.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: And you know, waking up Monday morning, man, I was like, man, I wish it was already Tuesday, right?
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: Because you would have already gone through that difficult moment.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: But you know, like anything in life, man, you just sometimes you you just have to do the hard thing, man.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: You have to do the hard thing, you know.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: So um I did the hard thing and it was um received well, and uh you know this this week has been actually very pleasant.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Good um in the best possible way.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: So I you know, I couldn't I really could not ask for a better There it is, even that much more confirmation, you know, leading up to pulling the trigger on that decision, you know, you were as you described, kind of waffling, thinking you could play it out different ways, but to have it so clearly time and time again say, nope, taken care of, nope, you know, and just like okay, I guess here we go, and then to have it have gone so well and then well received, this work week being much more pleasant, you know, and you know, because you never know, like you said, I've I I've had clients describe, you know, like difficulties at their jobs and you know, exploring resignation and how they've seen other of their colleagues or co-workers try to resign or give her two weeks, and they just get fired on the spot, like, hey, I'm gonna give my two weeks.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: No, don't come back.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: So that the even like for to be like, oh, oh man, really?
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, kind of the the shock that I think was experienced when you made your announcement.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: But then, you know, to you know, your employer kind of sounds like recovered from that and was pretty accepting and and expressed some gratitude, and you know, and so further confirmation uh before and after, like, yeah, man, you did the hard thing, you did the right thing, and uh already getting rewarded for that.
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's just pleasant, you know, and and I know it's a little bit different because of my role there.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I would hope that you know when a vice president steps down or resigns, you know, there there's a lot to that, you know.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Um not taking away from any other person their roles or or their positions in a company, but you know, at the level that I was operating at for this company, it was very high and I had a lot of responsibility, you know.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: That a lot of uh VPs normally would not have.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: It's not like you're just purely VP type duties in upper management.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: You oh you also happen to be their IT guy.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Which most VPs are not the IT guy, but you know, for going from a medium-sized or small size to medium-sized company and all the additional things you picked up that kind of pushed you into that VP position, you know, it's the the amount of hours you were working a week, you know, it's gonna leave quite a hole.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be scrambling for a little bit, uh, and they'll figure it out.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: You know, no one's irreplaceable.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: No, no, of course.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: And you know, and I'll do my best next week to you know give a clean handoff um to my ownership.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: That's the least I could do, you know.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: But you know, at the same time, you know, dealing with that, I um started a new company, which um Shannon cautionedly tells me, bro, seriously, right now, really?
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Uh sometimes we don't pick the time, man.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: And um, it just it just happened to coincide with this decision to um resign from my company and at the same time and the same process over the last 30 days.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: I've been trying to start this new business, get this company launched, um, and now we're we're fully up and running.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's uh it's it's gonna be exciting.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: It's gonna give us an um opportunity to just do our own thing, you know, and I think there's a lot to be said about that.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's scary.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna tell people that it's not scary, it is, especially when you make rather substantial purchases in order to help get that uh venture um moving forward.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: But can we talk about a little bit?
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: I kept promising the listeners' details they get.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: This we can talk with all the details you want.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Dude, so just before the two of us sat down to record this podcast, you know, we're chatting back and forth.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Michael's catching me up on kind of some of the stuff we're talking about here, and he's like, hey, follow me.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: And he's done this before in the past, hey, follow me.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, oh, here we go.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: He's gonna show me something.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: And uh so we go out the front door and down steps across to the parking lot, and there in the we're walking toward him.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: This big, beautiful, newer, it's this Dodge Ram 3500 turbo diesel dually with uh almost like a sleeper in the back.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: It's just this, it's this hauler because his new business is transport.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: And he has experience in this in the past, but now he can because there's a lot of need, as he's explained to me, for you know, transport, automobiles, motorcycles, you name it, side-by-sides, you know, people want to buy this or that, but they need it taken often states away.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: And Michael saw a very real and even lucrative need there, and so he pulled the trigger and got this big, beautiful new dually, or not new new, but new to him, just few years old, a couple years old, whatever.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: And uh yeah, so you want to talk about an investment in a new business, you know.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: He's he's he start he you're you're back in transport.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, and it's exciting.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: You know, it's um it was it was it's we talk about this a lot.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I I'm a huge sign person, that's just how I am as a human being.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: I think if you really start looking sometimes real close at things, and definitely when you look backwards, it's easy to look back and start really connecting some of these dots of how things have lined up so well.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: And you might have missed it at the time, but sometimes when you go back, it's there it is, clears our face, right?
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: And when I had this idea, and I I think I mentioned it to Shannon maybe a month ago when I just brought it up to him, and he's like, bro, you got enough going on right now.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: Maybe you should just I don't know, just just think that through.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Well, as always, um I did take his advice, and I was like, Yeah, you know, maybe Shannon's right, I should probably maybe just get this other thing taken care of.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: And sure enough, man, it's like you know, I I kept getting a couple calls from some people, and they're like, Hey, your son said that you guys were you know thinking about doing this transport business because both of my sons were in car sales.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: We really could use some help out here.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: Let us know if you do it.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: I was like, God dang it, man.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Like people are asking.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: So I started okay, well, maybe I can just start on the the administrative portion.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: I'll just start on the admin side, like get get a company name.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: Um, there's a bunch of federal requirements that you've got to get under your belt before you can haul other people's um um commodities across state lines.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: And I was like, okay, well, I I'm familiar with 98% of that stuff, so I have most of the uh accounts already from my previous stuff.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: So it's just a matter of getting back in there and kind of going through the process.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: So I'm getting through the process, and I was like, okay.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: Um, so for the listeners out there, most most people know we've talked about Raven 8 Tactical is my federal firearms uh license business where we're a manufacturer of firearms and we specialize in customizing, serocoding, things like that.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: So I did not I did not want to start another company on top of that because then you got state fees, state business license fees.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: Shannon knows all this.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: You you just you gotta go down the laundry list, right?
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: So I thought, well, I'll just do a DBA underneath that umbrella.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: It'll be a lot easier.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: And if something doesn't work out, it's a lot easier just to kind of just wipe that off the face of the the business world and just stick with your main company.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: So go ahead.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna run.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I just suggest occurred to me that's such a like oh wait, so now you have firearms and transport.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: That's correct.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Perfect.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: We're gun running, bro.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: They're gonna love you, man.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: We're gun running for sure, right?
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um so I was sitting in my office and I thought, okay, I don't want to make this overly complicated.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: What's kind of a seamless transition from Raven 8 Tactical into the transport?
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: And then I was like, Raven 8 transport, easy peasy, right?
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: So hence our my new business is Raven 8 Transport.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: Uh and of course, like always, I dove head first, man.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: Just you know, getting a website up and running, uh, which should be up today.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: I hope by the end of the today it'll be up.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: New logo, um, different theme, different color scheme, different all all the things that I just love.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: You dive in first.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: You there it is, man.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: You love this stuff.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: You love you, you are so creative and you and creating new businesses, or even you know, in this company that you resigned from, just the growth, the the creation that hey, we can do this better.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, we can add this, oh let's do this, this this will help, let's do this, and the the creation and the growth that just kind of naturally um follows you, that you you know, just come so naturally to you that you really do love, you know, and then so when he's showing me his big new dually pickup out there, uh he has these bitch and magnetic like signs, and there it is, Raven 8 transport and his ravens evolved because I've seen his Raven 8 tactical and stuff.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: It's super cool looking and stuff, and website and his ball caps and everything, and but now you know Raven A Trans and then the Ravens evolve.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: There's like some cool green color under the wings now, and everything is just like damn man, like you must never sleep.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: How do you keep creating all this stuff?
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's craziness, man.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: But you know, it's just like it's just like unloaded, you know, when I created our website, you know, Chen and I talked about it, it was a need.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: I I'm familiar with it.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Dive in head first, put a put a weekend in, and you know, we've got a beautiful you know website for um our podcast.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, hang on, wait, you're doing a podcast as well.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Wait, so you have like two different companies, firearms and transport, and these very full-time positions of you know, vice president.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, and trying to uh we're still podcasting.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: As he's rubbing his eyes right now, it's Friday, specifically.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: It's good, man.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, Raven 8 Transport is uh created and born.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: And so I'm doing all this administrative stuff, you know, and um I was like, okay, well, let's get out there and do a little market research, um real market research, not just hypothetical shit, right?
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: So uh my younger son Josh and I on on Friday, or I'm sorry, yeah, it was on a um it was on a Wednesday or Thursday, we went out for lunch.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: I I took my son with me to um because he works with us.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: We went to lunch, and then over there is our local dealership dealership, sorry, uh Dolan over in Fernley, Friendly Dolan Auto Group.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Uh I love Dolan Auto Group by the way, so if this ever gets out, uh kudos to all them because they take good care of me and my family.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: So um went over there, I talked to the GM, and he's a wonderful dude.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: We've I know him personally, I've bought in probably eight vehicles, give or take, for the family.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: You know, because I got three adult kids and yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: That that makes sense.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not me personally, but just as a family.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: It's a lot, right?
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: So I walk in and then I see him up the counter, I shake his hand, he's hey, you know, good to see you, Mike.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: It's been a while.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: I go, Yeah, man, he's what are you up to?
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: So I tell him what we're up to.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: He goes, Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Your sons were telling me you were going to do this transport stuff.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: He goes, Where are you at?
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: I said, Yeah, well, here's where I'm at.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: We're pending.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Gotta wait for federal approval.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Takes a 10-day waiting period to mandatory.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: But we're in the proof, we're in the pending process, and hopefully at the end of 10 days, we're get the check mark and we're ready to rock, man.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: He's like, What can can you help me out with some business?
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: He's like, Yeah, absolutely.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: He's like, uh, he's like, what do you so what do you what's your rig?
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: I go, I'm gonna just drive my 2500.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: He's like, Oh, you're gonna uh he goes, that's your baby, man.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: I go, I know.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: I said, but I could use that for temporarily, you know.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: I got the uh 28-foot enclosed feather light, it's a nice aluminum trailer, that's our hauling trailer, and he's like, Yeah, you know, I got something out back.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: I go, dude, man, seriously?
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: He's like, Yeah, I just came in.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: He's like, let me have the guys pull it up.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: I was like, God dang it, dude.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: So we're sitting in there and I'm talking to him, and he's like, Yeah, he goes, This uh older gentleman out in Fallon where I live, all he used it for was hauling his travel trailer.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: So it's a 2022, as Shannon explained a little bit earlier.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: They drive it around, and I'm just like, that's a nice truck.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: That's a really nice truck.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: I was like, uh, what's the miles on that?
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: He's like, 20K.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: I'm like, he's brand new.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: So he's like, I'll just he's like, Mikey, always been good to us.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll take care of you goes, I'll just give it to you for what we paid for it.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: I was like, what?
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Long story short, that's how we got this vehicle out here for the for the business.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: Um, and while I'm deciding this, by the way, that was on a Thursday.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: So I took that back.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: That was on a Thursday.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: So I told her, I told him, I said, Would you hold it over the weekend?
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Let me think about it.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: I'll come back and we'll we'll have a conversation.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: He's like, Yeah, of course.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: No problem.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: He says, but by Tuesday, you gotta let me know.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, cool.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: So that Saturday, my I go pick up my younger son, Josh, and we're gonna head out to some dealerships in the uh northern Nevada area.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: We got some people lined up to talk to.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: I'm cruising down the highway, we're heading into Sparks, which is uh right before Reno, and boom, my 20 or my 2500 throws a transmission code.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: No, which I've which I dealt with earlier in its history, but I did some uh upgrading and I haven't had any issues with it.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: So engine light comes on, tranny dumps in the floor, goes into lint mode.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: We pull off.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Luckily, we're by a gas station, I pull in, I throw my scanner on it, same code I had about three years ago.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Clear it out, um, restart the truck, we're moving on our way.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: I was like, well, I guess I have my answer.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: You know, because you're looking at probably anywhere from 8 to 9k on a full rebuild for the 2500 RAM.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: Um, so that was one of my hurdles.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: I was like, well, if I just fix the tranny, I'm good.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: Why we get another truck?
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: And you know, when the when the tranny threw the code, I was like, I'll just get another truck, dude.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: I'll just get another truck for now, right?
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Again, universe stepping in to say, eh, I'll make the decision for you.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: So uh we went to a couple local dealerships.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: We talked to quite a few people, and everybody's you know, pretty excited that we're local and that we're up and running, and uh so that's kind of how this uh has evolved.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: Man, and you are already establishing those connections, those relationships with all these dealers in the northern Nevada area who will need their automobiles transported, yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: And you'll all they're waiting for you, and but that cool magnetic big sign for the side of that pickup, it already has a big DOT number on the bottom.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: And so it looks like, yeah, when do you think you're gonna start hauling hauling automobiles?
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Uh well, funny, we just got approval shockingly this week.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: Uh we got full authority to haul.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Um, all of our insurances are in.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Um our USCOT number has been approved, which you saw on the sign.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: Um our what's called an authority, motor carry authority has been approved.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: Uh so we're we're a 100% legitimate Raven 8 transport company.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: You know, we can haul cars from coast to coast, north to south if we choose.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: When do you have time to pull weeds?
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Uh we're gonna good question.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Uh we're we're focusing on Saturdays and Sundays right now.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Um both of my um my sons are are looking to help dad in the new business.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: So um my older son's off Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, midweek.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: Um my younger son's got some things he needs to figure out and decide on his life choices.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: And they can both drive.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Yep, yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: Do they need anything for that other than driving license?
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: So we're we're gonna haul what's called non-cdl weight, so you don't need a CDL license because you're just hauling a car at a time.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Um I've reactivated my personal class A CDL so I can haul heavier if the need comes up.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and this is just the beginning.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Just the beginning, man.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Let's see where it goes.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: This is the official fleet.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: My my hope is that this will grow into a uh very nice small family business if my family wants to partake in that.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: At least it's an option.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Uh I I know both of my sons are interested.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: I think my son-in-law actually is interested as well.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: So to Shannon's credit, yes, and theoretically, you know, we could be three, four trucks deep at some point.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: Oh exciting, man.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: I appreciate that, man.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: And it's just it's good to just make make the decision.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, just I had a thought, took the thought into a business, uh, went through the you know, down the list.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and um now we're we're ready, man.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Manage it, you're up and running.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean I I I got a really good dude down in Carson City, um, Sierra Power Sports.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: So uh shout out to Wade down there, he's the owner, really nice guy.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: Um, he's super excited for us as well.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: And um, I told I called him this week and said, Hey man, we're we're we're 100%.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: He's he was super, super excited because he's been having some issues with these other individuals that he was using and it wasn't working out.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: So he was super stoked for us.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: So thank you, Wade, down there and to the team at Sear Power Sports because a good group of people.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, if he calls today and says, Hey man, I got something to go tomorrow, on the way.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: So for now, Saturday, Sundays is gonna be our target for uh the local area, and then we're gonna slowly expand that bubble out.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: And so hopefully a year or two from now, me and my buddies will load up five motorcycles and meet you in Florida.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: We'll jump on the airliner, whoop, fly three hours, yeah, land down in Miami, ride down to Key West.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: You have our motorcycles there waiting for us.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: We can take all five.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: They all fit.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: We got plenty of room.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's funny is we were um I've been looking out on the open market, and um somebody reached out to me in the open market.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: I said, Hey, I didn't notice you guys are new, but you you're out of the Reno area.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: I go, Yeah, we're we're we're ready to go, you know.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: He's like, hey, so I got a 2024 McLaren 750S.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: I was like, that's a really nice car.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: So if you if y'all look those up, those those run anywhere from I think three to half a mil somewhere in there.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, they are insurance.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're beautiful cars, man.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: He's like, Yeah, but I you know, I said, when do you need this?
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: He's like, unfortunately, I need it like today.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: It's going to go from the Reno area down into uh Scottsdale, Arizona, man.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: I was like, boy, wouldn't that be a hell of a first first ride, man?
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Your first one.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: The half a million dollar supercar.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: I was like, yeah, man.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: I said, I wish I could help you.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: I said, but unfortunately, I don't have the availability right now, but we could do it on the weekend if if if that changes.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: So thank you for reaching out to me, by the way, whoever that was.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, keep reaching out.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: We'll be ready at a drop of a hat here in a few weeks, hopefully.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so that's where we are, man.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: Oh exciting, man.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Congrats.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Shannon.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: I appreciate it.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, we're we're hitting the 30-minute mark.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: So um we'll have to keep it.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: I know we'll continue this a another time, but um like always, I I appreciate you and I appreciate our our listening audience out there.
