- 0:00[SPEAKER_06]: in this run that can we run that video back because I need people to really see this run that video back of y'all mind because that's insane that's like that's a nice like how did you do that listen there's some there's some so look there are
- 0:28[SPEAKER_06]: There are rappers and singers and entertainers that you listen to on a regular basis that can't do that.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_06]: You understand?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_06]: But to see what you've done, man, my first question is how you do that?
- 0:44[SPEAKER_02]: First I sold ten tickets.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_06]: That's it.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: The first thing I did was sold ten tickets in two thousand thirteen.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: I was at Sinclair Community College and I was a poet.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_02]: I get my name, ace metaphor from doing poetry.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I printed out flyers, it's back in the day where you have flyers.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I was all over the campus talking to the girls, handing out flyers.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_02]: And that taught me how to sail an event.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: Talking to people and immediately getting feedback.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of times right now, I know we're in this digital age where you don't have to do it.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: But a lot of people are not sharpening their skills to sail because they don't get immediate feedback for what entices people to come to an event.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: And then the thing that I learned to help me get from selling ten tickets to a hundred tickets is that I don't sell poetry.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: I sell an experience.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: You come here because of why.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: You come here because you want to forget about your problems with ten minutes, an hour, twenty minutes, two hours.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: You come here because you want to get fly, you want to get out the house, you've got a babysitter, and you want to go somewhere that's worth your time.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: So that's how you get to that.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: You don't get there without doing that.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: And I think a lot of times, a lot of people are afraid to start because they're egos.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: You afraid to just sail ten tickets.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_02]: You're afraid to just sail fifty.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: But without ten and without fifty, you don't get to five thousand.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_06]: So you just said, come on, put your hands together for that one.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_06]: So, poetry show.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_06]: Ten tickets.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_06]: Is you probably tin so pu-free, give away a nice little gift there?
- 2:25[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, okay.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_06]: When did it turn into tonight's conversation now?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was interesting.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I did poetry.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: I was a poetry promoter in Dayton, Ohio for
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's shout out to, it's the person from David here.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: I was a poetry reporter, a promoter in the company we had was called Metaphorically speaking.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: So we went from the tent to the hundred, and then we eventually got to a thousand in the city of Dayton, Ohio to just watch poetry.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_06]: How often were these thousand person we did?
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: We did a monthly, which would be about a hundred and fifty people, and then we did two events a year that was had a theater called Victoria Theatre, and that would be a thousand.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: And so what I learned to get from a hundred to a thousand was Facebook marketing.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: This back in the day before it was super sophisticated and before it was saturated, before everybody, quote, unquote, started to do it.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: And then I had learned that instead of me having to hand out a flyer, Facebook could be the flyer giver for me.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: And then I learned, okay, how can I translate myself, pitch in person?
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: to online flyers, right?
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Then I said, you know what?
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's too much to type out.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: Let me just make a video.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I would take my phone out and I would make a video telling people to come to a poetry show.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: And then when I would make those videos and market those videos, people would be like, are you entertaining?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: And then that's how I started making videos on the internet with my phone out.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: Before you let a man sweep you off kill feet, be sure he's, that's how I started as metaphor, right?
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: And so,
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: When I started doing videos on an internet, this is now, this is about two thousand, fifteen, sixteen.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: People would always be like, man, when you go come to my city and I'm like, come to your city and do what?
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: Talk?
- 4:11[SPEAKER_02]: But that's when I learned that the impact that you have online, that watcher, when we see like, okay, it's just sixty views, right?
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: Those are sixty real people.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: That you minimize right now because you think it's just sixty few, you ain't met those sixty people.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: Every day I get to meet one of the number of the views that I have.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: I was walking around here and I met the number, right?
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: The quote unquote, you review five hundred and twenty nine thousand two hundred and one, right?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: But that person comes to you like yo, those videos change my life.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: So how it's a nice conversation started, it started first, it's a metaphor saying,
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: Those views that I'm getting are real people.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to be in a room with these real people.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: So in two thousand seventeen I did my first tour.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: Don't laugh at the name.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: It was called the future wife tour.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_06]: No way.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: Don't laugh at the name.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_06]: The future wife tour.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it was called the future wife tour.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_06]: No, no, no, no, no.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: We can skip that.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: Hold on.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_06]: Why did you come out with the name Future Life Tour?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_06]: What was around that?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_06]: Was it a cool theme you were coming up with?
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: So what it was was.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: because I started with poetry.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: My initial videos that I would do on an internet would be like open letters.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know how literars does it now.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: So before that, we talked about two thousand, fifteen, six, and I would be future-wide, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I would make a freestyle poem.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's what caught on.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: And so when we would do the first tour, the first tour was really featured poetry.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was myself, Jay Martinez, triff on tang, buddy, you met him in the back.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: We would go and we would do poetry and then I would do some question and answers.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: But then I had started to learn that people really love the question and answers.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: They want to come and be a part of the show.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: So we toured in two thousand seventeen, not to, I know you asked about tonight's conversation, but it's foundational.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: Let me tell you, what's foundational?
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: Because it was at that moment, I said, the same way I was able to market poetry shows in Dayton, Ohio.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: Using Facebook marketing to sell a thousand tickets, would if I just changed the radius?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: Instead of marketing to date in Ohio, what if I changed the radius to say, let me market to everybody that's a fan of my videos in Chicago?
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: What if I changed the radius and do Baltimore?
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder if people would buy tickets.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_02]: Did you teach yourself Facebook ads?
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: I do it.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: You too.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: Really?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: You too.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: Entry on there.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_06]: You lost a lot of money.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's part of the process.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: I would just tell my bad to get all tangent, but even as a, I would call myself a rather seasoned marketer now, you still lose money sometimes because you're behind the curve of how the algorithm change or how best practices change.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: But back in the day, that was my, that was my lippiness test.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: That was letting me know that, hey, whether or not I made money on that first tour in two thousand seventeen, it let me know that the strategy worked.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: The strategy of saying, let me make my top of my funnel,
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: People just a fan of who I am and a fan of my message.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: Every time I get, let's say, twenty thousand views, that's a potential number in there that would be a potential ticket buyer.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: My dad in two thousand seventeen, when I started doing these tours, he was like, what are you doing it for?
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: Because you're not making that much money.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: Because at the time I was still a registered nurse.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: I used to work at a hospital.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: And he would say, as you just doing this to be popular, and I told him, I said, no, my goal is I want to get a million followers and get one dollar from those followers.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: And that's how I'm going to become a millionaire.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: Now, in two thousand, seven, ten, you couldn't see it.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: But the reason I wanted to tell you that story is because now we're in two thousand, twenty-five, I do the same exact thing.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: The same exact strategy, just
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: A little bit more well-known, a little bit better of a product, a little bit better of a brand, but the same strategy.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: Going to a city, finding your own venue, calling around, using Google, using Mary-Out, whatever you want to use, isolating and finding the venue.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: Then what you do is, hey, let me make an audience, everybody will yell, I'm not going to assume you know this, but then you say, let me make a Facebook audience that is, people who engage with my content in the last year.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so you hear.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_06]: In Facebook, if I go in there, set up my Facebook manager or whatever, I can select people who've engaged in my content in a certain time frame.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: So, essentially,
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: What you do with is, yeah, essentially you do that.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: Facebook adds manager.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: You go to create an audience.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: You'll go create an audience, a custom audience.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: And that you will go to like your Facebook or your Instagram account and you'll say, OK, Instagram, everybody that engaged my content in the last year, I want you to create an audience for me.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: Then I would go to my ads and I'll say, you know what?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody that has engaged with my brand in the last year.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: Find all those people, let's market to all those people.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: But let's only market in Phoenix.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: And then the creative for that ad would say, Phoenix, we're coming to your city.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: One night only, this the last time you can see is this year, get your tickets now before they sell out.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: And then you have a creative to say Phoenix.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then you duplicate that for every city that you're on.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_06]: Incredible.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_06]: I'm thinking, right?
- 9:47[SPEAKER_06]: A registered nurse taught themselves Facebook ads.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_06]: I'm even bigger respect for you now, because as a registered nurse, you have this idea.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_06]: You're going on this tour because you love poetry, I assume.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know if you were like a strategic thinker in that way, but it's like, yo, I want to go on tour because this is what I love.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_06]: And you're on tour with a bunch of your friends, but then at some point it turned into tonight's conversation.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_06]: What was that turning point?
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: So, we had the pandemic, right?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: So, which is interesting, because the pandemic happened early, in the early, the last show that we were the last show.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, no, real quick, I'm so sorry, because you aren't here, I did this presentation.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_06]: And I was telling them that there are people who started before a trying time, and the people that were putting their work, once it hit, everything turned up.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_06]: Was that your story?
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly the story, because here's the thing.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to tell you, I'm going to tell you why because you already had the skill set.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: You already had the weight to get ready.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't have to learn the skills then.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: Now you just amplify them.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: So when a pandemic happened, you know, I've already had millions of followers.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: I've already done tours.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: I had did a collaboration tour with Stefan Speaks and Derek Jackson.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: It was called The Self Loves.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we saw a whole bunch of things.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I've already had the strategy.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_02]: But what changed the game is that a pandemic
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: switching to e-commerce.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: So we switched to e-commerce and I was like, you know what, I need a product to sail outside of just my poetry books.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Because in order to buy a poetry book, you had to know who I was, right?
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, I needed a product that, no matter if you knew who I was or not, it was so fun you wanted to get it.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: So then I created a hard game because I was like, everybody's dating, you know what I'm saying?
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: Look, look at the video.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: And everybody's there.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: So I created this nice conversation cards.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: When I created this nice conversation cards, I only ordered the first, this is September, twenty twenty.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: I ordered five thousand of them, right?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: And when they eventually got in, I thought that five thousand was going to be like a lifetime supply of card games.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I didn't think nobody was going by or right.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: It was called tonight's conversation.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: And within two days, I had so five thousand cards.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_06]: What two days?
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: In two days.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_06]: Did you run ads?
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: I did run ads and let me tell you why a lot of people listen to pandemic was terrible.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: Let that breathe.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: But a lot of people ate.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm gonna tell you why because during that time, I'm talking about I was selling my cost per customer at the time on a Facebook ad was two dollars and thirty cents.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_06]: Explain cost per customer.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: So how much it costs an add dollars, it takes to convert a buyer.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: So when I were running ad, Facebook was only spending two dollars and thirty one cent to find me a customer.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I was able to scale it.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: We were selling three, four, five hundred decks a day.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: And here's the thing.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: If you were smart enough, I just included that in the shipping.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: So basically, I was selling car games for free.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_06]: You added it to the shipping cost.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:05[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_02]: Let me tell you, everybody do that.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody do that.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody do that.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: When they be like, the journal is free, just pay for the shipping and handling, they all do that.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, everybody does it.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but um, so then we get into tonight's conversation.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: I had did a tour.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_06]: I'm sorry, real quick.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_06]: We're still doing the, we're still running ads to the future wifey tour.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, in two thousand seven thing.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_02]: So now we're in two thousand.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: Twenty.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_06]: Yes, so what was going on between seventeen and twenty.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: Future wife tour to the don't waste my time to where the queens on settled tour to self love summit.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: Love and love laugh and poetry tour one love laugh and poetry tour too.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: So you're just touring I'm just touring again better and better and better.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm learning I'm learning to add better We're getting slightly more people every single time and then the the cardinal event was in two thousand nineteen when I linked up with Derek Jackson step on speaks I had said even though I had did tours by myself.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: I had said
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: Collaborating and doing a collaborative tour, being able to use my marketing skills, not just to my own audience, but to other people that may not feel like doing it or have the knowledge to do that was the way to go.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: Now people get more bang for your buck.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: You'd out and came to your city five times about this point.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: I need you to have another reason to come to another show that I'm on.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so when I collaborated with Derek Jackson and Stefan Speaks, it taught me the power and collaborating brands, especially if you're the one that is willing to do the engine work, right?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of people that want to be on stage, there's a lot of people who want to set their books, so a lot of people want to get paid to speak.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: If you can be a person that provides that to a person, and all they gotta do is show up.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people assign up for that.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_06]: So how does your structure of a relationship are you saying, come on this tour, I'll do all the work and we split the money or y'all need to put in all that.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: I made that mistake one time.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: I never made that mistake again.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: The reason the reason why I was a mistake to do that for myself is because you start to learn how you work as a person.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: And whenever you do a revenue share, let's say you split something in three ways.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: If you are a person that feels like you invested, all of the money, you did all the ads, you took all the liability, you did all the planning, and you up there singing a dance and two, you eventually gonna be like, I don't really want a thirty three percent.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: But that's not the reason I stop doing it.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: The reason I stop doing it is everyone assumes just because you see people in the crowd that event made money.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: So then what happens when you got to go to that person and explain,
- 15:48[SPEAKER_02]: We lost seven thousand dollars a day.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: What happens to you?
- 15:53[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to you don't want to have that conversation.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I learned the reason why I caught a mistake is not because of the good days.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: The good days, whatever.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody happy.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_02]: You ain't got to look at somebody and be like, we make no money.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: What you mean, we make no money.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: It was you see how these people.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: You see all these people.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: You get the P&L.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_02]: You like, you fudge your numbers.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and I was like, you know what?
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_02]: So from that point on, from two thousand, I would say, nineteen, two thousand.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think I might have did one collaboration tour after that where it was more of a split.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: I said, nah, whatever your rate is that we negotiate.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_02]: This is what I'm going to pay you.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: And the reason I like that better is because it's less variables.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: Then it motivates me to work.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: The harder I work, the more successful an event can be the more I can make.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: So that motivates me to wake up at six a.m.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: and not go to sleep at ten into ten p.m.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: I get that extra motivation, but when you
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: doing a group project where everybody get an A, and you're doing it on a work.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: You don't like that like that.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_06]: And you get the same result because the ultimate goal in the collaboration is I want their audience, I want their audience and this person's audience, right?
- 17:02[SPEAKER_06]: And maybe you're still doing the same thing I've run into ads.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_06]: Where in most people, they're satisfied.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_06]: Just give me my money up front.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_06]: I don't even want a chance.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_06]: which brings me to my next point and I'm kind of moving a little more forward is you just recently went through some stuff and when I saw it and I saw people saying I don't want to be a part of tonight's conversation anymore I'm out the first thought in my mind was they have no idea what it takes to build the company it's almost like when I left cheesecake factory I felt sorry for them because I'm like what are they going to do without me
- 17:40[SPEAKER_06]: I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to talk to my manager, like, dang, man, I got regulars that come here just to see me.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_06]: She's taking factors going to crash when I leave.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_06]: They didn't.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_06]: But when I saw that, I'm like, well, you have the convenience of sitting there, jump on stage, do your thing.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_06]: And then you say, well, we built this.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_06]: Well, not really.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: Let me, there is so much, I notice this part is about building and taking things on a road and touring.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: There is so much to that process.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_02]: If you, I mean, for a person that does events, I can walk in here and I can be like, ooh, that costs this, this, this, the sound, that, this, this, I can see, Chiching, Chiching, Chiching, I can see it.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: for a person is not experienced with that is hard to see, right?
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: And this is why this is the number two lesson I learned from touring.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's expensive.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: Even when you do it small, it's expensive.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm gonna sneak this lesson in and number get back to your point.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: This is why you have to have an ecosystem around the touring.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: The ecosystem around the touring was everything worked hand in hand.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_02]: Insanized conversation, you see,
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: The video ads are our most viral videos that we only get because we film every show.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: We film every show we put those shows on an app that generates revenue.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: Now you go back to the viral videos not only sell the app subscriptions, but it sells tour tickets in person.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: People come to the show
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: because they enjoy having a good time and then now they buy the car game that's of the same name sake.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: The shift with me that be able to scale touring was getting revenue outside the door.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: When you only rely on door money is so hard for it to be profitable.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody is factor in in your price.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: Think about it.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: If you got a thousand people, that hotel knows you about to have a thousand people.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_02]: The person that's charging you sound knows you about to have a thousand people.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: That DJ knows you about to have a thousand people.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody knows you about to have a thousand people.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: And guess what they're going to do, charge you a thousand people price.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so what you do is you have to learn how to create that ecosystem around the live shows so that you're not so dependent on the door money.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, I see, I mean, not that I'm peeping your game, but I see the streaming.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: It seemed like the streaming doesn't have enough.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: You create different ways for it to make sense.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm gonna say this, if I wasn't filming at the shows, it probably wouldn't be worth for me.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: It wouldn't be.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: Because if you do a tour, and this is us talking, you do a tour, yeah, you'll make money in New York.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you would make money in Boston.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: Our Baltimore, our D.C., but when you do Milwaukee, when you do San Diego, when you do Montgomery, Alabama, when you do Orlando, Florida,
- 20:46[SPEAKER_02]: When we talk about, you know, you say, okay, he's done two, three, four thousand people, New York, Chicago, DC, and I'm proud of those.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_02]: But when I'm most proud of is when we do seven hundred people and we rock that.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: But what makes it worth it and what makes it to rock and go do that seven hundred is that film.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: Because what if in that moment, we had the most dopest exchange between a panelist and the audience member.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_02]: I clicked that up.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_02]: I put it online and would have that got me two, three, four million views, five million views.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: Think about the brand awareness.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: If I had the spin ads to reach five million people, you know how much money that would be?
- 21:29[SPEAKER_02]: And so I challenged people to think about doing events.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: First, start at TN, start at FFT.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_02]: Start at a hundred.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_06]: Start at your crib with you in your home.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_02]: Just start there.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_06]: Go to Starbucks.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like, because you got to think, you know, I'll come in here and I look at, I look at the LED.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: I won't that.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: But then I say to myself,
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: You work how heavy it is.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: We would have to travel it.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a do a projector.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: You got to take your ego out of it.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people right now we do like a cloth bag drop.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's not as dope as this, but I'm not you.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: My process ain't yours.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: I got to do what makes sense for me.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people will come to other people's events and compare theirs to them.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: Do what makes sense for you.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: It works for you and was good for your business.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_06]: Man, I didn't realize that you, I mean, you create an experience and you gave a lot so far, but a lot of it is driven by ads.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_06]: And we could break even on the ads.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_06]: Like, we see all these people here, they think I make money.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_06]: I did.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_06]: You know what I mean?
- 22:33[SPEAKER_06]: They think I made money.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_06]: It's in this school.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_06]: But I get what you're saying.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_06]: So we got to figure out some stuff around it.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_06]: But anybody here, let's just say, you're starting off.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_06]: Anybody here in the relationship space?
- 22:43[SPEAKER_06]: Anybody here?
- 22:43[SPEAKER_06]: Okay?
- 22:44[SPEAKER_06]: We're starting off today where, I mean, I got a cool show, got a cool logo, and I want to do what ACE is doing.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_06]: If you had to start all over again, give me your exact process right now.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: First, put that effort in making sure your YouTube, your Instagram, your socials are popping.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: You know, what would be the reason why someone would come to your event?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: focus on that, and focus on convincing people to have the desire to see what you're doing live first.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: Before even getting there, I see a lot of people will plan the dopest event with no strategy to get a customer.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: And with social now, and I know a lot of people here, I mean, obviously they're interested in podcasting.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: Get your views at first.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, I'm serious, like spend the time there.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: Right?
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: And in mind, that is your field to also be learned what's entertaining and what's not.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: For example, no shade.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: These people pay day money.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to say this.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're not yet entertaining enough to keep the tin people watching your life on your life for more than ten minutes,
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: That is telling you that there's some internal work you have to do, which are delivery, how you entertain, how you spread your messages out, because if you can't entertain those ten people, while they're on the couch, when nothing else to compete, what you think is going to motivate them to go and they pocket them, give you money, and have to travel, get a babysitter, get their hair done, and come see you.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: And this is the field that I used to sharpen my skillset was I was on life every single day.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not still being alive every single day.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be too nervous so I'm a little busy but like I was on live sharpening that and then I would learn what clips work and what style of people like why you talk like it stops you.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: It makes you scroll back and so my the best advice is
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: Are you treating your life, your lives, like an actual event?
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: Do that first.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have to, you don't have to think about the in person yet unless you're willing to entertain the people.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: And this is for people that want to do live podcast in my imagine, like a live event, podcasting.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the first thing.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: And once you get that, and you got enough people that say to you, man, you should, man, I will come watch it live.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_02]: Be in start doing that.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: But I think people will look at the motto and say, that's cool.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to do it because it's cool.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: If you got the budget to do it in the money to spend, because you want to look cool, or if you want to be cool, don't skip the process.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm going to just send it here.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: Two thousand, twenty four.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: Two thousand, twenty three, two
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: Two thousand twenty for two twenty three I saw seventy thousand tickets twenty four I saw seventy thousand eighty thousand tickets or something like that.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: But that came after.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: Two thousand thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen I'm going to do it for emphasis nineteen twenty twenty twenty we had a pandemic but I saw some ticket twenty one twenty two.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I mean.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: It is understanding there's a starting point and sometimes the pre-work is you being good enough for somebody to feel like it's worth spinning to take it to watch you talk.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_06]: So what walk me through being good enough?
- 26:33[SPEAKER_06]: Because there's a science behind, I see you do your your your your phone is up a little bit and I study it and it's kind of like shaky a little bit like you got like this low you don't know because it's a but walk walk me through it one how we can make our content more engaging especially in a relationship space and also how do you know what the right clip is to pull is there a formula or a science you have you know what's interesting because I'm glad you brought that up because you were
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: even earlier in a process, we're talking about how I still do my own ads.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: I still pick the clips for tonight's conversation as well.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_02]: I find them, I clip them and I do it.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's the forefront of my business.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: That's the last thing I'm going to delegate.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people, that's the first thing you delegate.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: Fuck you talk.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, excuse me.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like how is that?
- 27:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like your message to the world is the first thing you delegate?
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: What other time you got at this point?
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's in my opinion.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why people do that.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: And because what that does is now you have the post on which you're reading the comment section.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: How dare you post and not read the four comments you got?
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's four.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: No, let's be honest.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if I can sit through and I can read through thousands, you can read through your ten, your fifteen, because the ten and fifteen, let me tell you something.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know the commenters name, but the reason I did tonight's conversation is because routinely I kept hearing people call me biased, one sided.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so as a reply to that, I'm like, you know what, I don't want to talk about other sides.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: I like to side I'll talk about, but let me create a panel of people so they can discuss
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Other issues that people care about, but it was only through looking at the comments section.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: So when we talking about clipping up or finding clips, the important process, especially when you're the business owner, or this is your brand, is learning from the customers who say you care about.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so when you're reading through, now you're saying, OK, they want to hear more of this.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: Are they unlike you when I say this?
- 28:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm not saying this should move you out of your core mission for your business, but sometimes the customer is right.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: And let me tell you, this is probably the, I mean, just think about what we are in history.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_02]: You can post something and get a media feedback.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_02]: Even if it's not negative, in terms of likes, if people like this delicate do more of it.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: And lastly, when you say does there a science to it, being dope is the science.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: You, like, I can sit up here and tell you that, yeah, you changing your lighting and your camera angle and you do this and thumbnail this and that's important.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying that that's not important.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm saying, I get on TikTok every single day and see people without a professional camera, see people without lighting, see people that didn't put captions on a video, going viral every single day.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know why?
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: Because they post them.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: You so worried about what the post looked like in the thumbnail and this and in that that you ain't posting.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: You so worried about that Amazon camera coming in and all when it coming in and I get my studio set up.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna get to it that you missed thirty sixty ninety days of opportunity just to post something online.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: Take out your phone and record and ain't that difficult.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: I listen.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: I got most of my followers just taking out my phone on my way home from work.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you all look at my beginner videos, I was in scrub pants.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: In a scrub shirt, I had to take a badge off because I got a trouble.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: And then, and I was doing that, and I'm saying it's even, let me tell you this, it's even more applicable today than ever, because I think the algorithm is rewarding that more now.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: They going back to that organic.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen a TikTok, and I wish I remembered his name.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: So if y'all found it before, game credit, because I want him to think I'm still in his idea.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: But he was talking about how just treat your post in like, it's a FaceTime.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like you just have an conversational FaceTime.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: And if you do it that way, now you post in two, three, four times a day.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know that viral video that I saw yesterday that had three million views.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: I went to that person's page and guess what the views counts was on the video beneath that?
- 31:03[SPEAKER_02]: A hundred, fifty.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_02]: And they got rewarded for their consistency.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess what I'm saying is, is it a science to it?
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but the formula is different for you, him and myself because we have different personalities.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: But what I can't tell you is you never find it if you ain't never posting.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_06]: Come on, put your hands together on that.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_06]: What what I want to do because I I man I really I really want to get into I got there's a bunch of things I want to get into but I want to take some questions because I notice some people that are in that space that I think it'd be more valuable to take.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_06]: Y'all got questions?
- 31:41[SPEAKER_06]: When are we doing it?
- 31:42[SPEAKER_02]: Ain't nobody got no questions.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's all good.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: All right, go ahead.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, so Mike we're the mic.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_06]: I think the mics are on both sides, right?
- 31:50[SPEAKER_06]: Yes, okay.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_06]: I was go for it.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_07]: How you doing?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: What up, man?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_07]: How are you?
- 31:56[SPEAKER_07]: How are you?
- 31:58[SPEAKER_07]: I'm good.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_07]: I'm good.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_07]: David, we know you, man.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_07]: What I want to know is making your transition from the short form previews to being on your own app.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_07]: What did that process do that take?
- 32:13[SPEAKER_07]: Why did you do it?
- 32:14[SPEAKER_07]: And what went on with the results?
- 32:17[SPEAKER_07]: We have been there.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I never, I never ever posted any long form content.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: that wasn't behind the paywall.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: Period.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: And everybody has their own strategy, so I never did the YouTube route.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_02]: By the time I created my app, though, for reference though, I want to give people this, I already had the awareness.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't need any more awareness.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: I created my app in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in year, in
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: I've spent a hundred and fifty thousand dollars on that podcast shoot.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: The first shoot.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: We had two different rooms.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_02]: I flew in forty to fifty different influencers.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_02]: Film crews, the edited everything.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I said, oh, no, we, we, we trapping this out the car like Master Pete.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: The last thing I wanted to do at that time.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm saying at that time, right?
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: Cheap in the value of what I thought because sometimes a price tag speaks to the value and lack thereof in somebody's head, right?
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the first thing.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: But the second thing is, at that time, I already knew the importance of shorts, reels, TikToks.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: That was enough for me to stay in somebody's attention.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: every single day.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I spent more time focusing on the reals.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: Let me tell you something.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: My YouTube page, tonight's conversation, is over a million followers right now.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I ain't never posted that long form.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: At third, it's only been reals.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: And so for me,
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: The app was a way to where I could use my ad skills in order to get subscribers.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: So when I would take my viber videos, turn them into ads, it's because I had an app that I now integrated into Facebook's
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: Let's call it a conversion tool.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_02]: So that Facebook would know when I got an app install and an app subscriber.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: And then what I was able to do is scale because now I had a consistent way to get customers on the app.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: So there was months I would spend a hundred thousand dollars on marketing for the app, right?
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: Because I knew a hundred thousand dollars equal X amount of subscribers.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: And even if I broke even, that's a hundred thousand dollars
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: And brand awareness, I not got on Facebook because people saw my face on the internet even if they didn't download the app.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: So it was part of this whole ecosystem that I created.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: Now in two thousand twenty five things are different than they were as in two thousand twenty two.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm saying the names right, the years right.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm just encouraging people to find out what's right for you.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_02]: The app was a great move for me when I did it.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_02]: And it's still a great move.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_02]: But it's other people that launched apps around the same time that I did that no longer have the app.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just about, wait, your goal in which your passion is and which your skill set.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: As a marketer,
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: put my stuff on YouTube where I don't get none of the data from my subscribers, I don't get the email, I don't get the number, wasn't what I wanted to do.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_02]: I've had over three hundred thousand people.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: Sign up for my app, which means I have over three hundred thousand emails that came just from that, which means now when I do my shows, now people in those cities, I can send an email to.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: So it was right for me because I'm a marketer.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: It may not be right for you.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I just want everybody to know what your skill set is and they're in place of that.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_06]: I love how you consider yourself a marketer.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_06]: It doesn't seem content creator, you say it over and over again.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_06]: I am a marketer.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that's what I do.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: I market.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_02]: My roster, I market.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_02]: My shows, I market.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: My content, I market.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: My app, I market.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's the most important thing I do.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's why that's the last thing.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's the last thing I'll delegate.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like I can delegate everything else.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_02]: But that's the last thing because that's something that somebody would have to prove there's so much better than me.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: But then also, you had to know my brain, my thought process, and my eye.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_02]: So those are things that's super hard to, and I'm passionate about it.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: I spent the last three and a half days setting up this funnel that I wish I could talk about.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know about it, but you know what I'm saying, not here, because it's not what I'm paying to, but I wish I could call somebody you just talked about, like, because that's how exciting it is for me, but that's the backbone of my brand.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_06]: I love it.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_06]: Right here.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: Hi.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Ty was, Ty was geek grants on Instagram.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: I am already an influencer on Instagram.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: But on YouTube, I need help.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: I have two followers.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, eight followers.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I have a hundred thousand.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: something on Instagram and TikTok.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm trying to figure out whether or not YouTube is where I should be because I teach on fundraising and business grants.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, I know you've got a lot more stories to tell.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: My question is what platform would you suggest I use?
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: to increase my engagement, because I need to be on YouTube.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_02]: So the common thing people ask, everybody, all of them, all of them, post on all of them.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: I'm telling you, YouTube is your problem.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever is working on Instagram and TikTok, for right now, are you posting on YouTube?
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: I have a few episodes.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_02]: Right, which so that's so I'm not consistent with you that and you're more consistent or on Instagram on so every day grass grows where you water it
- 38:05[SPEAKER_02]: And we're in the most beautiful season in the world where you can cross promote to say a cross-prost the same thing.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: You can post it on all the different platforms like I was telling him earlier.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_02]: I looked up in the tonight's conversation page was at a million followers.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: Literally didn't pay attention to it.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_02]: Literally that's how much I didn't care about YouTube, but every time I post it,
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: to Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, the same content I posted on YouTube, and you look up, boom, you dare.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: Your problem isn't that you're not fit for YouTube.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: Let me tell you something algorithm will find anybody that likes what you do.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: That any of your job right now is to give YouTube something to work with.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: YouTube can't even work for you because you ain't feeding it.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_02]: So just right now, whatever is working on TikTok and Instagram, just post it over there.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: I know you want the good strategy, but I can only give you strategy if you're doing something.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: So before you get to that, just post.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever's working over here, post it there and do that as consistently, over there.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: And then that way, you do that for, let's just say three months, then come back and we can talk about dissecting what's working and what's not on your YouTube.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: And for everybody with a question like this, if you ain't posting that's the problem,
- 39:23[SPEAKER_04]: First off.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: It is because I'm sorry because how we try to go into higher level strategy before we even post it.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_02]: Post.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: Do that.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: Then come back.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_06]: Absolutely.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: And David, I'm waiting for my invitation on the podcast.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_06]: That's what we're on the couch.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_06]: Go for it.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, my name is Brianna Moore, hosted a number one financial podcast in Richmond, Virginia.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: We focus on turning purpose in the profit, profit in the placement, so we never have to ask for a seat of detail.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_00]: So what I want to ask you is I want to compliment you because when I started, my live shows everybody forwarded me to your content.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: My question is when sponsors start to come in?
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: Sponsors?
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sponsors.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: When you start to have that conversation to say like when they see you packed out a live show how do you have that conversation about how much to charge pre-roll, mid-roll, what do they get with that?
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's my question.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Shenzu.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's more qualified.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: I never had a sponsor.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: I never had a spot.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: Now, at some point, I hope to.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: But ain't nobody ever just knock on my door and say, here's somebody.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: Now, when they do, great, I just ain't never waited for it.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's not that I don't want it.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_02]: I've been in talks with people.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: I've been in talks with different major touring companies, and that's been part of the conversation.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: But I just wasn't willing to wait into somebody else's pay for my dream.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: I did that.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: I never took no loan.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: I never had no add dollars.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, no sponsorship dollars.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't have vendors at my stuff.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: I make money because I sell to the customer.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: Period.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: Now, here's the thing.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: Is that the smartest thing in the world?
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: Probably not.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm good at what I'm good at.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_02]: And at some point, I think the story, the lesson in my story was,
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: For me, in my skill set, not saying somebody I can't bring on later on or whatever the case may be, they're only focuses on that.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: But then you deal with a whole host of other things.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_02]: What can you talk about?
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: What can you talk about?
- 41:38[SPEAKER_02]: Now you got to post something here or do here and do here.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a lot of things in there.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess what I'm saying is, I didn't wait.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_02]: And we've been touring so much over and over and over again.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: The only thing I had time for,
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: was selling tickets, selling apps, subscriptions, and doing dope stuff.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_02]: So you're more qualified than me to talk about that.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_06]: I think she just said something key.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_06]: She's like, yo, I packed out this one event.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_06]: Now I have this conversation with sponsors in those conversations.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_06]: could take your mind or take your eye off the ball of doing that joint.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_06]: Again, doing another one, pack another one out, try to make money from that.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_06]: But yeah, I think once they start coming, it distracts you because now you're waiting when before you weren't.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_06]: So I think you gave a great answer.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_06]: Let's do it again.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe because I got to learn from you, it's just I haven't.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: in the traveling space, even just major artists tours, a lot of them don't have title sponsors.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and it's something that I didn't learn into, I met with live nation and learned with their representatives.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of artists that people are going to pay money to go see in a tour lost money.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's a festival right now that you went to, that lost money.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that sponsors are super, super important and would be super, super valuable.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: but I also think doing your second event and selling your second event out is probably what your focus should be on.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_02]: Right now, that's my opinion.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_06]: Now, I dropped the ball in some sponsors because like you do live in and then some people's like, yo, we'll sponsor all our kind of stuff and then they don't, but I'm going at it anyway.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_06]: Gusto came because somebody was at one of the events saying yo, I think that's mine so I'm like cool, I honestly didn't even believe him because people talk all the time.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm, I can't, okay, cool, just to me, Emma, then we started building a relationship, cool.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_06]: High level, they came, I was at an event and I happened to be, oh, so Robin Alley's founder of Go High level, it's a billion dollar company, a billion dollar company.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_06]: I went to his webinar con, and I happened to be there.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_06]: And I was like, hey, man, what's up?
- 44:03[SPEAKER_06]: You own, I love, we say, yeah, he said, bro, every time I go to the barber shop, my barber is playing a podcast, I love it.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_06]: I want a sponsor.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_06]: I say, you want to what?
- 44:15[SPEAKER_06]: He said, yeah, I'll just sponsor.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_06]: He didn't even say how much.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_06]: He was like, yeah, I'm a sponsor here event.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_06]: Why?
- 44:21[SPEAKER_06]: Because we do it.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_06]: We do the thing.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_02]: Clap it up.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_04]: Question.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_04]: Hello gentlemen, I'm Kelvin Troy Johnson.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a dating and relationship coach known as the Love Coach of Atlanta.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm doing something similar to tonight's conversation, bringing on like therapists, coaches, all these kind of people out.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_04]: And I'd love to hear like, if you had to start over, I've been doing it kind of on YouTube and like virtually.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_04]: But I really like to bring everybody together in one space, but whatever kind of advice you would have, if you had to start over today, how would you grow your brand?
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know the interesting thing is, when you say, if you had to start over, I have.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: I had to start over, right?
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: Because every tour is a start over, every reset and cast is a start over, every economy change, the change in economy can be a start over.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_02]: But if I was starting from square one, right?
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: The thing that I would think about, and you're more interested in a live event space.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_02]: Correct?
- 45:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_02]: How I would start is
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think we covered this earlier.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: How many people ask you, man, why aren't you doing events?
- 45:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like honestly, how many people have said that to you this year?
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: Quite a bit.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_02]: Quite a bit.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: There.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: Then you got something, right?
- 45:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: Now what do you say when they say that?
- 46:01[SPEAKER_02]: I invite them to the next thing that I have going on.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: So you are doing it.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: So why are you needing you and at the ground?
- 46:08[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so when you say start over, start over from already doing events.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm doing my own events like a matchmaking and like speed dating sort of thing.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_04]: But I'd like to bring my team on and have the coaches and do the whole tonight.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I got the best advice.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_02]: Just do that again.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_02]: Just do what?
- 46:34[SPEAKER_02]: That.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: Just do it.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: Book of In You.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: Reach out to people.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: bring your team home and have an event, just like, just do it.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's it.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_02]: Let me tell you why.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_02]: I can give you the best advice that works for me.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_02]: But you're a different person.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: This is a different market.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_02]: You got a different vision.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_02]: And you've already done events.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_02]: Instead of this time of being speed day, this time is a panel.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_02]: do it.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: And when you do it, you're going to learn lessons from doing it the first time that's greater than whatever I can say in the last five seconds I got on the stage.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's the truth.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_02]: Just keep the key thing for everybody with this question.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: Do it.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, and let me tell you this, if you're afraid to make mistakes, then get out this game.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_06]: Come on.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: Go work at Home Depot, go, go, go, get your trade, and be a nurse or something.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_02]: But like, if you so afraid to just go and do it so you can learn those lessons,
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: Then that is the first thing you need to cure.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm telling you, the one thing God got is not that I'm smarter than people, that I'm not the best speaker, I'm not the best speaker, I'm not the best looking and I'm not the smartest, but I got a heart and nobody got a bigger heart than me.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a fight, every single day for everything God got.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_02]: So when I hear people with this scare talk, go do it.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's it, do it.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: If you move, get them next time.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_02]: period.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_02]: But when I'm more afraid, and this is why I was talking about sponsors.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's an element.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: I wish I had them.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_02]: But guess what I did in the meanwhile.
