- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, Kik's marketing
- 0:13Speaker 1: stunt that didn't live up to expectations. UK crowds flocked
- 0:18Speaker 1: to see Anna Paul and Sarah's Day called out for
- 0:21Speaker 1: an alleged car park incident. But first, pyjama entrepreneur Sophie
- 0:25Speaker 1: Keisha's push to resurrect her mummy blogger career is reaching
- 0:29Speaker 1: fever pitch. Over the weekend, Sophie revealed the intimate moment
- 0:34Speaker 1: she broke her pregnancy news to her daughter, Florence, and
- 0:37Speaker 1: shared her gender reveal to her 200,000 followers. Now, Sophie,
- 0:42Speaker 1: on Friday's show, we discussed how Sophie has launched a
- 0:45Speaker 1: new family vlogging channel. And over the weekend, she dropped
- 0:48Speaker 1: her second video. How did this one fare? Well, it
- 0:51Speaker 1: fared a lot better. So since Friday, Sophie's subs count
- 0:54Speaker 1: has risen to 335. And at the time of recording,
- 0:59Speaker 1: this recent video has 38,000 views. So there's definitely a
- 1:02Speaker 1: lot more interest around her pregnancy. Now, Sophie's second YouTube
- 1:07Speaker 1: video was entitled, Hey Flossie, You're a Big Sis. And
- 1:11Speaker 1: this video was really a fly on the wall look
- 1:13Speaker 1: at how Sophie broke the news to her seven-year-old daughter, Florence.
- 1:17Speaker 1: She had planned on keeping it a secret from Florence
- 1:20Speaker 1: up until the 12-week mark as she was concerned she
- 1:23Speaker 1: might start telling people at school. Interestingly, She told her
- 1:27Speaker 1: son Bobby before Florence because he's 10, so he's three
- 1:31Speaker 1: years older, and she thought that he would be able
- 1:33Speaker 1: to keep it under wraps. How do you feel about
- 1:35Speaker 1: her telling one child and not the others? Well, this
- 1:37Speaker 1: happened a bit when we were growing up because you
- 1:39Speaker 1: couldn't keep a secret. That's not true. Yeah. Not keeping
- 1:44Speaker 1: a secret part. I'm not good at keeping secrets, but
- 1:46Speaker 1: I don't think that they told you things.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I think they just didn't. Well, unless I'm just finding
- 1:49Speaker 2: out about that now.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Well, I hate to break it to you, but there
- 1:52Speaker 1: were some secrets kept from you. It's an interesting move, though,
- 1:54Speaker 1: because it's not as if Bobby is a teenager. He's
- 1:57Speaker 1: only 10 years old. Mm.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Obviously, he did do a good job at keeping a
- 2:00Speaker 2: secret though.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Now, Sophie ended up having to reveal the news to
- 2:04Speaker 1: Flossie earlier because during her first trimester, she started to
- 2:08Speaker 1: feel really sick and she was struggling to find the
- 2:11Speaker 1: energy to do anything during the school holidays. And she
- 2:14Speaker 1: said that she started to feel like a really shit
- 2:16Speaker 1: mom and she wanted to explain to Flossie why. Here's
- 2:20Speaker 1: how she broke the news to her. You're my little baby,
- 2:23Speaker 1: but you are how old now? Seven. Seven years old.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And you're not in nappies anymore.
- 2:30Speaker 3: And you're not having a bottle anymore. Oh, my God.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I still like milk.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah. And you know how Mummy has been so sick lately?
- 2:41Speaker 3: Mummy's just been so tired.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Can you think why?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Because of working.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, working a lot, hey?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 2: She's always so tired, isn't she?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 2: But there is another reason.
- 2:57Speaker 1: What?
- 2:58Speaker 2: What's something you have wanted for a very long time?
- 3:03Speaker 1: You are going to be kidding me. Oh, my God.
- 3:06Speaker 3: What is something you've wanted for a very long time?
- 3:11Speaker 3: Another silver ring.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Mummy's having a baby. There's a baby in my belly.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Oh, my God. This was a very sweet clip and
- 3:22Speaker 1: you can tell how genuinely excited Flossie was. She even
- 3:26Speaker 1: shed a few tears after finding out the news. And
- 3:29Speaker 1: I can tell why Sophia started a family channel because.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Flossie provides great content.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Like she is awesome. funny. Was she aware that the
- 3:37Speaker 1: camera was up? Yeah, they set it up. Oh, okay.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I suppose Sophie films most of her life, so it's
- 3:41Speaker 1: probably not that big of a deal. Well, I got
- 3:43Speaker 1: the vibe that she's announced to her, hey, we're doing
- 3:45Speaker 1: a family channel. And I'm sure at Flossie's school, all
- 3:49Speaker 1: of the kids.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Want to be YouTubers.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So it's probably quite cool being like, wow, my mom
- 3:52Speaker 1: has all these followers. We're starting up a YouTube channel. channel.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And Flossie probably was aware that Sophie and Maddie were
- 3:57Speaker 1: going through fertility treatment together the year prior. So it
- 4:00Speaker 1: must have been a topic of conversation in their household. Well, yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: Sophie said that Flossie has been wanting a sibling for
- 4:06Speaker 1: so long now, in particular, a sister. Now, when questions
- 4:11Speaker 1: turned to the baby's gender, Sophie told Flossie that they'd
- 4:14Speaker 1: be holding a gender reveal. And at this point, it's
- 4:17Speaker 1: where Flossie made it very clear that she wanted a sister.
- 4:19Speaker 1: She She will never feed him and never change him.
- 4:24Speaker 1: We also found out in this YouTube video that Sophie
- 4:28Speaker 1: had broken the news to her ex-husband, Jared, already. It's
- 4:31Speaker 1: interesting that she even divulged that piece of information. Well,
- 4:34Speaker 1: she's clever. She knows that people are invested in her
- 4:38Speaker 1: former relationship with Jared and she wants to put rumors
- 4:42Speaker 1: to bed that there's a rift going on between them
- 4:45Speaker 1: because he does have a new partner now.
- 4:46Speaker 2: She wants everyone to know that they're happy families.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I wonder if people messaged her asking if he was
- 4:50Speaker 1: a sperm donor. That's the thing. After Sophie made her
- 4:53Speaker 1: pregnancy announcement, there were a lot of questions of people saying,
- 4:56Speaker 1: who's the father? And I thought it was fairly obvious
- 4:59Speaker 1: that it was a sperm donor because of her previous
- 5:02Speaker 1: situation with Maddie, how they'd been going through IVF. Maybe
- 5:06Speaker 1: people were asking who's the father in terms of, is
- 5:08Speaker 1: it a friend that's donated their sperm?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I think people are saying, oh, is it Jared or
- 5:13Speaker 1: who is it?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Someone that they know.
- 5:14Speaker 1: She hasn't come out and confirmed any of this information
- 5:17Speaker 1: and it really isn't anyone's business. Now on Friday night,
- 5:21Speaker 1: Sophie held a small gender reveal dinner with her kids
- 5:24Speaker 1: and a couple of friends, two of which play for Essendon.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And this is worth mentioning because Sophie was previously dating
- 5:32Speaker 1: an Essendon.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Player called Sophie van der Heuvel.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And she was a notable absentee, yet two other Essendon
- 5:38Speaker 1: players were there. Does she go for Essendon? I think, yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I think she does.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I think so.
- 5:44Speaker 1: She's always got these athletes around. Sophie Vanderhoof will not
- 5:47Speaker 1: being at this dinner clearly shows that they're not getting
- 5:50Speaker 1: back together. They're no longer a thing. It's pretty clear
- 5:53Speaker 1: that Sophie is keen to drive up her social media
- 5:55Speaker 1: engagement levels with these baby milestones because ahead of the
- 6:00Speaker 1: big reveal, she shared a video of herself dressed up
- 6:03Speaker 1: with her bump front and center with the caption, boy
- 6:06Speaker 1: or girl, I never found out what my babies were
- 6:09Speaker 1: and had no intention this time around until Bobby and
- 6:12Speaker 1: Floss demanded a gender reveal. So let's do this, babies. Now,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I found this caption confusing because in her YouTube video
- 6:20Speaker 1: with Flossie, Sophie was the one who told Flossie, we're
- 6:24Speaker 1: going to be doing.
- 6:24Speaker 2: A gender reveal.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Ha ha. I wonder if she's trying to play down
- 6:28Speaker 1: her desire to have one because she doesn't want to
- 6:30Speaker 1: be accused of trying to generate more baby content to
- 6:33Speaker 1: draw in followers. It was amusing because in the comment section,
- 6:37Speaker 1: there are a lot of people making a big fuss
- 6:38Speaker 1: because Sophie was wearing a ring with three blue stones
- 6:42Speaker 1: and they thought this must be a clue. But she confirmed,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I've had this ring for 12 months. I genuinely don't know.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I'm being surprised. You would never be so brazen because
- 6:52Speaker 1: in this reel, they zoomed up on the blue ring. Now,
- 6:55Speaker 1: Sophie opted for a white heart-shaped vintage cake with Oh
- 6:59Speaker 1: Baby written on it. And she was very quick to
- 7:01Speaker 1: share the news on socials, posting a photo of her
- 7:04Speaker 1: daughter Flossie cheering and pumping her fists in the air
- 7:07Speaker 1: as a pink center was revealed. And this photo is
- 7:11Speaker 1: classic because in the background, whilst Flossie is celebrating, you
- 7:15Speaker 1: can see her brother Bobby with a very red face
- 7:18Speaker 1: and his head in his hands while Sophie is clearly
- 7:21Speaker 1: having to console him over the news. Gosh, this is
- 7:23Speaker 1: giving me flashbacks to Sarah's day's baby reveal. There's always
- 7:27Speaker 1: someone who's unhappy. That's why they're always so awkward. Now,
- 7:30Speaker 1: Sophie captioned the post, case closed, and followers were quick
- 7:34Speaker 1: to comment on Bobby's reaction with influencer Tully Smythe writing,
- 7:38Speaker 1: Bobby looks thrilled and a follower wrote, never has a
- 7:41Speaker 1: picture said a thousand words ever rung more true. Sophie
- 7:45Speaker 1: thanked her followers for their messages and wrote, yes, Bobby
- 7:48Speaker 1: is okay. Someone was going to be disappointed either way,
- 7:51Speaker 1: but he was laughing saying, no, another one dancing around
- 7:54Speaker 1: the house singing Jojo Siwa. Sophie really is bearing it
- 7:59Speaker 1: all on social media because on Sunday night, a video
- 8:02Speaker 1: popped up of her asking Flossie if she wanted to
- 8:05Speaker 1: feel her pregnant belly.
- 8:07Speaker 2: This is what unfolded.
- 8:08Speaker 3: You want to look at it now?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Mum! That was Bobby. Bobby! That wasn't me. I
- 8:20Speaker 1: love how Sophie's like, it wasn't me. It actually totally
- 8:24Speaker 1: looked like it was her in that vision. What you
- 8:26Speaker 1: also can't see in that vision is they start playing
- 8:29Speaker 1: this beautiful music. It's all in black and white as
- 8:32Speaker 1: Flossie's touching Sophie's belly.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And then out of nowhere, Flossie starts grabbing.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Her mum's boobs and starts pushing them up and moving
- 8:39Speaker 1: them side to side.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Oh, this made me laugh so much.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Keeping it real for the gram. We also got a
- 8:46Speaker 1: bit of an insight into the name selection process. So
- 8:49Speaker 1: on Saturday morning, Sophie shared Flossie's name suggestions.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Floss, quickly tell everyone, what are your top three names
- 8:56Speaker 2: for your sister?
- 8:58Speaker 1: So the third one is Zadie.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Zadie.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah. The second is Nora. Nora, beautiful. And the first
- 9:09Speaker 1: one is Olive. Olive for the first one. Thank you.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It looks like Sophie is keeping her girl's names close
- 9:17Speaker 1: to her chest and a secret from her daughter because
- 9:20Speaker 1: she probably doesn't want her blurting them out to everyone
- 9:22Speaker 1: because this is another money-making moment. That is something that
- 9:26Speaker 1: influencers start using is the big grand name reveal. I
- 9:30Speaker 1: don't mind the name Olive. I think that's quite cute.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah, some of them are pretty cute.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Now, when it comes to baby names, Sophie has an
- 9:37Speaker 1: interesting track record because When Florence was born, Sophie actually
- 9:41Speaker 1: named her Betty Margaret. And then two weeks later, she
- 9:45Speaker 1: backflipped and said she didn't like the name and announced
- 9:48Speaker 1: on Instagram that she was changing it to Florence Betty.
- 9:51Speaker 2: So she probably wants to make.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Sure that she sees this baby and sees what they
- 9:55Speaker 1: look like before setting a name in stone. Well, as
- 9:58Speaker 1: we discussed on Friday's show, it's clear that Sophie is
- 10:01Speaker 1: trying to resurrect her former mummy blogging days. Yeah, because
- 10:04Speaker 1: she really built a very engaged community when she was
- 10:07Speaker 1: known as the young mummy and that helped her with
- 10:10Speaker 1: her string of businesses and also bring in a huge
- 10:13Speaker 1: amount of endorsement deals.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And they seem to have been on the decline.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And whilst we said on Friday that she lost followers
- 10:20Speaker 1: on the day that she broke her baby news. In
- 10:22Speaker 1: the past few days, she has gained over a thousand
- 10:26Speaker 1: new followers as she starts to trickle out more baby
- 10:28Speaker 1: content and her last three posts have fared well. So
- 10:32Speaker 1: the gender reveal got 20,000 likes and the other two
- 10:35Speaker 1: posts got around the 10,000 like mark. This is in
- 10:39Speaker 1: comparison to her past content, which had been only hitting
- 10:41Speaker 1: around 1,000 likes. With all of the engagement comes the trolls.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So one woman wrote, kids must be so confused. And
- 10:49Speaker 1: Sophie reshared the comment and she even shared the lady's
- 10:52Speaker 1: name and profile photo and wrote, no, not at all.
- 10:55Speaker 1: For 10 and seven, they are clearly much more educated
- 10:57Speaker 1: than you. And she shared a clown emoji. I think
- 11:00Speaker 1: it's really awful that people are making comments like this
- 11:03Speaker 1: and speculating about who the father is and making comments
- 11:07Speaker 1: that children will be confused clearly because she's decided to
- 11:10Speaker 1: do it on her own. There's a lot of women
- 11:12Speaker 1: who find themselves in a situation where where they do
- 11:14Speaker 1: have to have a child on their own or they
- 11:16Speaker 1: choose to have another child on their own. And I
- 11:18Speaker 1: think that what Sophie's doing here is whilst, yes, I
- 11:21Speaker 1: question some of the strategy around what she's sharing and
- 11:24Speaker 1: whether it is invading her children's privacy, I think it's
- 11:28Speaker 1: important for single women to be seeing someone doing it
- 11:31Speaker 1: on their own and going through the IVF route. And
- 11:34Speaker 1: I'm sure that she will open up in more detail
- 11:37Speaker 1: about her.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Decision to go through IVF. Do you want to know
- 11:40Speaker 2: some TMI?
- 11:42Speaker 1: Popular Instagram account InfluencerUpdatesAU has revealed Sarah's day allegedly has
- 11:48Speaker 1: no etiquette when it comes to parking. So occasionally the
- 11:52Speaker 1: account runs a segment called Blind Items where followers write
- 11:56Speaker 1: in with unverified stories about influencers and the names of
- 12:00Speaker 1: the influencers are concealed for the general public but revealed
- 12:04Speaker 1: to paid subscribers. So I really hope Amber doesn't mind
- 12:07Speaker 1: us sharing this one, but it's too funny not to. Now,
- 12:10Speaker 1: one follower wrote in saying, Blank blatantly took my car
- 12:15Speaker 1: park when I had my indicator on rude. Now, Blank
- 12:19Speaker 1: is Sarah's day, and that was revealed to Amber's subscribers.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And again, this story is unverified. But I think it's
- 12:25Speaker 1: important to touch on because everyone loves a road rage
- 12:29Speaker 1: story or a car park story. So this follower explained
- 12:33Speaker 1: that she was at Cronulla Mall when she spotted Sarah's
- 12:36Speaker 1: day in her Range Rover trying to reverse into a park. Firstly,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I have an issue with people trying to reverse into parks.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I don't now because we both recently– traded our very
- 12:47Speaker 1: old cars in and got a new car. So I
- 12:50Speaker 1: now have a reversing camera. And sometimes I think it
- 12:53Speaker 1: is easier to use the reversing camera to get in.
- 12:56Speaker 1: This is what I've discovered. I'm being like, wow, is
- 12:57Speaker 1: that why all those dickheads are doing it? But it's
- 12:59Speaker 1: so fucking annoying, especially when you're waiting for someone to park. Anyway.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It's always men doing it too. So I'm surprised that
- 13:05Speaker 1: Sarah was allegedly doing it. Well, the follower remembers thinking
- 13:09Speaker 1: at the time that it was a tight park for
- 13:11Speaker 1: such a big car like that to get into. So
- 13:13Speaker 1: as she was waiting for Sarah to allegedly get into
- 13:16Speaker 1: the park, she drove ahead and spotted a man with
- 13:19Speaker 1: his keys. So she signaled to him that she was
- 13:22Speaker 1: looking for a park and he pointed at his car
- 13:24Speaker 1: to indicate it was his car and he's leaving. So
- 13:27Speaker 1: they both gave one another the thumbs up. Now the
- 13:30Speaker 1: follower proceeded to put her indicator on and reverse back.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Now as the guy drove out of the park, allegedly
- 13:38Speaker 1: Sarah's day swooped in and drove straight into the park.
- 13:41Speaker 1: The follower said, I could not believe it. Even the
- 13:44Speaker 1: car behind me put their hands up to me like,
- 13:47Speaker 1: what the fuck? It was wild. The follower then had
- 13:51Speaker 1: to reverse back into the car park that Sarah was
- 13:55Speaker 1: originally trying to get into. Now, She said that when
- 13:59Speaker 1: Sarah exited the car, she allegedly put her head down
- 14:02Speaker 1: and didn't face her. That's when you know someone has
- 14:06Speaker 1: done wrong. This is the sort of shit that people
- 14:08Speaker 1: pull when it's Christmas shopping or end of year sales.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Like people are.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Absolutely ruthless when it comes to the car parks.
- 14:14Speaker 1: It's always these people in these Range Rovers as well
- 14:16Speaker 1: doing this kind of shady shit. I don't want to generalize,
- 14:19Speaker 1: but I feel like the majority of people who drive
- 14:22Speaker 1: luxury branded cars are always act more entitled on the roads.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And I think that they always have the right of way.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Can you imagine if this was Kate and someone had
- 14:31Speaker 1: done this to her, she would have dead set lost it.
- 14:34Speaker 1: She's had a lot of run-ins because she, it sounds bad,
- 14:37Speaker 1: but she sometimes doesn't know when to not keep her
- 14:40Speaker 1: mouth shut, but to just move on. I remember 10
- 14:43Speaker 1: years ago, Kate was driving along King William Road. This
- 14:47Speaker 1: is for Adelaide listeners.
- 14:48Speaker 2: And it's a beautiful road. It's a very prestigious road. Anyway,
- 14:51Speaker 2: she was driving along.
- 14:53Speaker 1: And this cyclist got in her way or they, I
- 14:55Speaker 1: don't know, they did the wrong thing. She tooted them.
- 14:58Speaker 2: She tooted them.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And I think she is quick to give the finger
- 15:01Speaker 1: as well. And this always bothers me because being her
- 15:04Speaker 1: identical sister. I'm so worried that she'll give the finger
- 15:08Speaker 1: to someone that I know. And in my whole life
- 15:11Speaker 1: I have never, ever, ever given anyone the finger in
- 15:14Speaker 1: the car. That's where we differ. I never toot my horn. Well,
- 15:16Speaker 1: this person came out and like pounded on the front
- 15:20Speaker 1: of her car kind of as like a warning. But
- 15:22Speaker 1: then she also gave it back to him and said,
- 15:25Speaker 1: don't do that. And I said, Kate, this guy could
- 15:27Speaker 1: come and literally.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Punch you in the face.
- 15:29Speaker 3: You never know.
- 15:30Speaker 1: That's my warning.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I would never. Never respond to anyone in that situation.
- 15:35Speaker 1: The worst thing is anytime I see a road rage
- 15:38Speaker 1: incident happening, I will take my phone out and film it.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I remember seeing this guy, he was once smashing people's
- 15:44Speaker 1: side mirrors off their car and I started to film
- 15:46Speaker 1: and Dale was like, just put your camera down because
- 15:49Speaker 1: you're going to be next if he sees you. Going
- 15:52Speaker 1: back to the Sarah's Day scenario, the only thing, I
- 15:57Speaker 1: know again, this is unverified, but if this did happen,
- 16:00Speaker 1: the only thing working in her favor is that there
- 16:03Speaker 1: was another car park. So maybe the person who wrote
- 16:06Speaker 1: in had a smaller car. She thought, well, there's another
- 16:09Speaker 1: car park there. That's just shit. That is just such
- 16:12Speaker 1: shit behaviour. I think we need to put up a
- 16:15Speaker 1: question box on our Instagram and I want to hear listeners'
- 16:19Speaker 1: either worst road rage incidents or worst car park situations
- 16:24Speaker 1: because I think everyone has a funny one.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I'm doing a meet and greet in London this Saturday,
- 16:30Speaker 3: 27th of July, for.
- 16:31Speaker 1: This, my high-smart colleague. TikToker Anna Paul has proven her
- 16:35Speaker 1: influence and fame transcends Australian shores, with crowds flocking to
- 16:40Speaker 1: see the OnlyFans creator at her first meet and greet
- 16:43Speaker 1: in the UK. So Anna's appearance was held in Boots,
- 16:46Speaker 1: which is a UK retailer who was stocking her toothpaste
- 16:49Speaker 1: collab with High Smile. And ahead of the appearance, Anna
- 16:52Speaker 1: shared a professional video of her running past iconic British landmarks,
- 16:56Speaker 1: including Big Ben and the London Eye, to hail a
- 16:59Speaker 1: pink cab wrapped in high smile branding. It was a
- 17:02Speaker 1: really nice touch because they had the Sex and the
- 17:04Speaker 1: City theme song playing in the background of this clip.
- 17:07Speaker 1: A bit confusing that they're not in New York, but
- 17:09Speaker 1: they're playing that.
- 17:10Speaker 2: That is a good point, but it was just fun
- 17:12Speaker 2: and it was like.
- 17:13Speaker 1: This small girl in the big city and this video
- 17:16Speaker 1: quickly attracted 3 million views. She also put a call
- 17:20Speaker 1: out on her TikTok for anyone who wanted to come
- 17:23Speaker 1: down and meet her while she was at a Westfield
- 17:26Speaker 1: at White City. And she is known for shutting down
- 17:29Speaker 1: shopping centres in Australia. And we saw the exact same
- 17:32Speaker 1: reception in the UK. So there were fans flocking to
- 17:36Speaker 1: catch a glimpse of her on every single floor of
- 17:38Speaker 1: the department store. And there were fans crying and visibly
- 17:42Speaker 1: shaking in the crowd. And she kept it real as
- 17:45Speaker 1: always because she uploaded a TikTok of her sneaking tic-tacs
- 17:49Speaker 1: every time a new group of fans would come up
- 17:51Speaker 1: for a photo so that she had fresh breath. I
- 17:54Speaker 1: saw this and all I could think was, oh my God,
- 17:56Speaker 1: you're going to be so sick after that because mints
- 17:59Speaker 1: have a diuretic effect. Well, I had a different thought.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Isn't it quite ironic that she is flogging a toothpaste?
- 18:06Speaker 1: So you would think that your toothpaste, if it's great,
- 18:09Speaker 1: it would give you fresh breath. You wouldn't have to
- 18:11Speaker 1: be eating all of these Tic Tacs. Yeah, but the
- 18:14Speaker 1: high smile is about whitening your teeth, not necessarily promoting
- 18:17Speaker 1: fresh breath. Well, in saying that, this flavor is cotton candy,
- 18:21Speaker 1: which has raised a few eyebrows.
- 18:22Speaker 2: It's probably not giving you fresh breath.
- 18:24Speaker 1: It's a pretty clever technique to take him in every
- 18:26Speaker 1: time you meet someone, because it would be the worst
- 18:29Speaker 1: if you were as big as Anna Paul is. And
- 18:32Speaker 1: literally if one person made a TikTok saying, oh fuck,
- 18:34Speaker 1: her breath stunk. It's not a good look.
- 18:37Speaker 2: It ruins the illusion, doesn't it?
- 18:38Speaker 1: You've lined up to meet someone whose breath is overpowering.
- 18:41Speaker 1: It's like when we met Hilary Duff when we were
- 18:44Speaker 1: at high school and sorry, just a little subtle flex there,
- 18:48Speaker 1: but She smelled so good. She smelled like vanilla. And
- 18:51Speaker 1: she had her own perfume brand. So, again, she had
- 18:54Speaker 1: to smell good.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Getting back to this meet and greet, what got a
- 18:57Speaker 1: lot of people talking was the fact that her rumoured boyfriend, Amarik,
- 19:01Speaker 1: was in the background. So he was standing sort of
- 19:04Speaker 1: behind a sign, right behind Anna as she was meeting everyone,
- 19:08Speaker 1: but you could see like half of his face. And
- 19:11Speaker 1: he was just gushing. He looked so proud. And it
- 19:15Speaker 1: led followers to comment just how in love he looks.
- 19:18Speaker 1: So one follower wrote, the way he's looking at you
- 19:21Speaker 1: and smiling. Girl, he loves you. Whilst another said, look
- 19:25Speaker 1: at how lover boy on the side.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Looks at Anna.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I'm surprised it even came down because there has been
- 19:30Speaker 1: so much discussion online about these two. But If you
- 19:33Speaker 1: think about it, it only really helps Anna Paul's brand
- 19:36Speaker 1: because it builds further engagement to her content. She wants
- 19:39Speaker 1: people talking about her. It reminds me of being a
- 19:41Speaker 1: teenager when you would know everyone that was associated with
- 19:45Speaker 1: the celebrity that you were into.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I mean, you touched on Hilary Duff before, but you'd
- 19:48Speaker 2: know who her best friend was.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I knew that was Troy herself. security guard that came out.
- 19:51Speaker 1: It kind of builds the hype around that person as
- 19:54Speaker 1: well when their little friends are there too. Over the weekend,
- 20:01Speaker 1: Steph Clare-Smith and Laura Henshaw teased that they were set
- 20:04Speaker 1: to drop some big news about their fitness app, Kik.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Their much-talked-about marketing team took a page out of Taylor
- 20:11Speaker 1: Swift's book, dropping Easter eggs and building anticipation for the
- 20:15Speaker 1: grand reveal. Yet many followers were left underwhelmed by the
- 20:19Speaker 1: lackluster and confusing announcement. Sophie, how did this all kick off? Well,
- 20:24Speaker 1: on Friday, Steph, Laura and the Kik app all simultaneously
- 20:28Speaker 1: changed their profile pics on Instagram to a random photo
- 20:32Speaker 1: of a bell with a maroon background. And from there,
- 20:35Speaker 1: they then started breadcrumbing clues saying that something big was coming.
- 20:40Speaker 2: And over the weekend.
- 20:41Speaker 1: They continued it by uploading a series of reels. So
- 20:44Speaker 1: one of the reels was of a bell with the caption,
- 20:47Speaker 1: please ring bell for service, followed by a video of
- 20:51Speaker 1: a phone off the hook with the words, sorry, we
- 20:53Speaker 1: couldn't take your call. And the last one was a
- 20:56Speaker 1: video of Laura in a maroon blazer, putting on a
- 20:59Speaker 1: scarf with a gold name badge on. And the caption read,
- 21:03Speaker 1: Laura will be with you in a moment. These clue
- 21:06Speaker 1: videos performed really well on socials and they attracted 100
- 21:10Speaker 1: to 200,000 views per video. And the comment section was
- 21:14Speaker 1: also full of people speculating what Kik was going to drop.
- 21:17Speaker 1: And they were guessing that it had to be something big,
- 21:19Speaker 1: seeing as they'd put so much effort into the campaign.
- 21:23Speaker 1: One follower asked, is it an overseas trip? To which
- 21:25Speaker 1: Kik responded, we will require one of those after working
- 21:29Speaker 1: on this campaign. Now, quite a few people predicted Kik
- 21:32Speaker 1: was going to launch a new retreat. Well, others thought
- 21:35Speaker 1: perhaps it was a studio. Others also speculated that maybe
- 21:39Speaker 1: this was a collaboration with Shameless as Kik was fresh
- 21:42Speaker 1: from launching a collaboration with Frank Green. Yeah, and all
- 21:45Speaker 1: of those three brands are very connected. So it would
- 21:48Speaker 1: have made sense. Now, this marketing campaign definitely drummed up
- 21:52Speaker 1: a lot of interest with many followers saying that the
- 21:55Speaker 1: anticipation was killing them over the weekend. and they were
- 21:58Speaker 1: desperate to find out what the women had planned. Many
- 22:02Speaker 1: also praised the intrigue that the campaign was generating, saying
- 22:07Speaker 1: that they'd taken a leaf out of Taylor Swift's marketing
- 22:10Speaker 1: book with the use of Easter eggs. Now, on Monday,
- 22:13Speaker 1: Kik made the grand reveal with a professionally shot video,
- 22:16Speaker 1: and in it, the women were dressed in maroon suits
- 22:19Speaker 1: and they played the parts of Conce Urges. Let's throw
- 22:22Speaker 1: to the clip.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Hello, Queen. Welcome to Kik Concierge, your personalised Pilates service.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Everything here is designed to flow around you.
- 22:32Speaker 1: No cancellation fees, no wait lists.
- 22:36Speaker 3: I beg your pardon?
- 22:39Speaker 1: Right, stand by.
- 22:40Speaker 3: There's a noise complaint coming from the pink room.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Sounds like someone's enjoying our spicy new workouts.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Step right this way and let's find your perfect flow.
- 22:53Speaker 3: So you're in your Pilates era. You love the burn.
- 22:56Speaker 3: You've got five, no 10, 20 minutes to move. And
- 23:01Speaker 3: you want unlimited classes for under $ 20 a month. Hika,
- 23:06Speaker 3: we've got just the flow for you.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I have to say, because this isn't a visual medium,
- 23:11Speaker 1: that the girls looked great in their uniforms. Like I
- 23:14Speaker 1: think that was a big draw card for them. It
- 23:16Speaker 1: was very marketable, but there was a bit of rage
- 23:19Speaker 1: baiting going on. We've spoken about this before. I found
- 23:22Speaker 1: it difficult to watch. Well, a lot of people were
- 23:24Speaker 1: saying that it was a little bit cringe. Yes. I
- 23:28Speaker 1: also had to watch this video quite a number of
- 23:30Speaker 1: times to make sense of what the key message was
- 23:33Speaker 1: and what they'd actually revealed because when I listened a
- 23:36Speaker 1: few times, the crux of it is that they're saying
- 23:39Speaker 1: they're launching a concierge service to tailor a personalized Pilates
- 23:44Speaker 1: service to you through their app.
- 23:46Speaker 2: So what they're doing is it's a bit of a gimmick.
- 23:48Speaker 1: So they put up a phone number and for one
- 23:50Speaker 1: morning people can ring in And speak to Laura and
- 23:54Speaker 1: Steph about their Pilates plan and what will suit them on.
- 23:57Speaker 2: The Kik app.
- 23:58Speaker 1: And they're also desperate for people to fill out a survey.
- 24:01Speaker 1: So the survey instructs you of which Pilates program will
- 24:05Speaker 1: best suit you on the app as well. So it's
- 24:07Speaker 1: a way to get people's email addresses and it's a
- 24:09Speaker 1: way to get people signing up to the app. Yeah,
- 24:11Speaker 1: it's a way to drive more sales and get more
- 24:14Speaker 1: people signing up to Kik. When I saw the big reveal,
- 24:17Speaker 1: I thought that Steph and Laura must have done some
- 24:19Speaker 1: collaboration with Libra or another period brand because I swear
- 24:23Speaker 1: I have seen a similar ad on TV where they're–
- 24:25Speaker 1: because they even mentioned their flow. And I was like, what?
- 24:28Speaker 1: Flow is a Pilates term, but the tagline was designed
- 24:32Speaker 1: to flow around you. And it confused me because there's
- 24:35Speaker 1: also a very popular period tracking app called Flow.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And there was so much maroon and reds used in
- 24:42Speaker 1: all of these clues that that I thought maybe they
- 24:44Speaker 1: were going to come out with a collaboration with Flow
- 24:46Speaker 1: and they were going to talk about tracking your period
- 24:48Speaker 1: when you're working out and how best to schedule in
- 24:51Speaker 1: your workouts during your cycle because that's something that interests
- 24:54Speaker 1: a lot of women. I would have been really excited
- 24:56Speaker 1: for an announcement like that. They also ended up holding
- 25:00Speaker 1: a live where they broadcast some of the phone calls,
- 25:03Speaker 1: which was very awkward to watch.
- 25:04Speaker 2: So I joined the live and there.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Were around 200 people in there and it was basically
- 25:09Speaker 1: the two girls sitting on a couch with their phone
- 25:12Speaker 1: on loudspeaker and and someone drooling on about their Pilates workouts.
- 25:16Speaker 1: And I was like, what the fuck is this? It
- 25:19Speaker 1: reminds me of one of those old school telephones that
- 25:21Speaker 1: they'd run and everyone would want people to ring in
- 25:23Speaker 1: to donate to a particular cause just on the off
- 25:26Speaker 1: chance that you could speak to a celebrity. Yeah. Because
- 25:29Speaker 1: are people that desperate to ring in to speak to
- 25:31Speaker 1: Steph and Laura?
- 25:31Speaker 2: They must be.
- 25:32Speaker 1: They're apparently ringing off the hook so much so that
- 25:35Speaker 1: the line went down and then the survey went down.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Did you ring? Of course I didn't ring. Everyone always
- 25:41Speaker 1: jokes a lot of– Listeners joke that you and Kate
- 25:44Speaker 1: just love Steph and Laura. I am a kick girl.
- 25:47Speaker 1: So that's why when they said that they've got this announcement,
- 25:49Speaker 1: I'm thinking, oh, my God, what is it? Because I
- 25:51Speaker 1: really enjoy their app. I really enjoy their community. But
- 25:54Speaker 1: I felt a bit let down by this announcement. However,
- 25:57Speaker 1: people who didn't feel let down were the Blue Tick
- 26:00Speaker 1: Brigade because they were out in force to congratulate and hype.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Up the girls.
- 26:04Speaker 1: They blew up their comments section congratulating them on this campaign.
- 26:08Speaker 1: So Anna McAvoy said, killed it, girls, while Sofa Dofa
- 26:11Speaker 1: called it iconic.
- 26:13Speaker 2: And Sammy Robinson wrote, so good.
- 26:16Speaker 1: However, it was the general public who were very confused
- 26:19Speaker 1: and underwhelmed by this campaign. So we polled our Instagram community. 34%
- 26:25Speaker 1: of our listeners said it was underwhelming. 44% said they
- 26:29Speaker 1: still don't understand the campaign and what it was about.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And 3% said that they loved it and can't wait
- 26:35Speaker 1: to call up. Well, that's the issue sometimes when you
- 26:38Speaker 1: overhype something that is going to be disappointment. Well, the
- 26:42Speaker 1: marketing campaign had good bones and I think it was
- 26:45Speaker 1: cleverly executed the way that they used Easter eggs and
- 26:48Speaker 1: they built suspense and anticipation. But for me, it essentially
- 26:52Speaker 1: fell flat because it was an anticlimax.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:55Speaker 1: They didn't then release something that their whole community was
- 26:58Speaker 1: excited about. I just don't understand why they were so
- 27:01Speaker 1: desperate to pump up this quiz so much. My only
- 27:04Speaker 1: thought is it must be because Pilates is huge in popularity.
- 27:09Speaker 1: And there are so many women who were joining Pilates
- 27:12Speaker 1: studios and spending a ton of money on it. And
- 27:14Speaker 1: I wonder if it was a way to remind their
- 27:16Speaker 1: community that they also have Pilates options, which they can
- 27:20Speaker 1: customize to you It's $ 20 a month, not $ 20 just
- 27:24Speaker 1: for one Pilates session. Well, if you think about it,
- 27:27Speaker 1: a lot of people are talking about this campaign, whether
- 27:30Speaker 1: they're disappointed by it or not. And it is going
- 27:32Speaker 1: to prompt a lot of people to find out, oh, actually,
- 27:34Speaker 1: Kik does Pilates. I'm going to sign up to it. Yeah,
- 27:37Speaker 1: it does lead to some curiosity, which will lead you
- 27:39Speaker 1: to then look into the app. I just think that
- 27:41Speaker 1: where it went wrong was that the key messaging wasn't
- 27:44Speaker 1: clear because many users said that they went away with
- 27:47Speaker 1: not actually understanding Pilates. what Kik was promoting and what
- 27:50Speaker 1: this concierge service was. And I think that that is
- 27:53Speaker 1: the difficulty when you're trying to promote something that's a
- 27:56Speaker 1: bit gimmicky. Obviously, they're not going to have this concierge
- 27:59Speaker 1: service around every day. It was a one-off thing. It's
- 28:01Speaker 1: kind of like the boy who cried wolf because next
- 28:04Speaker 1: time they try and pump something up, people aren't going
- 28:06Speaker 1: to be invested in it because they feel like they've
- 28:08Speaker 1: been ripped off with this announcement.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 1: And they're like, well, it's just going to be another
- 28:12Speaker 1: one of those things where I'm let down and it's
- 28:14Speaker 1: a non-event. Well, I think that's all we have time
- 28:16Speaker 1: for today. Thank you so much for listening to another
