- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:19Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another
- 0:24Speaker 2: one of our Friday Drinks episodes where we celebrate the
- 0:27Speaker 2: money wins from our community. Each and every single week.
- 0:30Speaker 2: There are always so many great money wins and stories
- 0:33Speaker 2: in our community, and this is our time to share
- 0:35Speaker 2: them and have a chat about them and also catch
- 0:38Speaker 2: up on what's been going on with the team for
- 0:39Speaker 2: the week. So let's jump straight into it, Tony Lodge.
- 0:44Speaker 2: That's what happened on Money Diaries this week.
- 0:47Speaker 3: So this week was a bit of a different vibe
- 0:49Speaker 3: for our Money Diaries. Often we hear stories about what
- 0:53Speaker 3: people have been through and how they've come out on
- 0:55Speaker 3: the other side and how they're doing amazing now and
- 0:58Speaker 3: all of that. You kind of hear the happy end
- 1:00Speaker 3: of the stories. And this week we chatted to someone
- 1:03Speaker 3: who is like dead in the middle of her story.
- 1:05Speaker 3: So she she had a business and it was thriving,
- 1:09Speaker 3: but she found out she wasn't paying tax, she wasn't
- 1:11Speaker 3: paying super so she got a massive tax bill and
- 1:13Speaker 3: all these things that she didn't really know about because
- 1:16Speaker 3: there's no manual to be this is how you start
- 1:18Speaker 3: a small business unless you listen to the business Bible.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yeah, nobody is ever going to have these issues ever again, obviously.
- 1:27Speaker 3: But she's twenty seven, She's got like fifty dollars and
- 1:29Speaker 3: that's it. She's kind of like restarting her professional life.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But how positive was she. She was honestly one of
- 1:37Speaker 2: the best money diarists because she was like, nah, but
- 1:39Speaker 2: I've learned so much and I am taking it all
- 1:42Speaker 2: with in Mestode, still in debt, still paying it.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Off, but better things are coming.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Like imagine going through all of that and still
- 1:49Speaker 2: being arguably what people would say is in the midst
- 1:52Speaker 2: of it, still being like yep, but better things are coming,
- 1:54Speaker 2: and I've got my stuff sorted out, I have a
- 1:57Speaker 2: plan and i can see the light at the end
- 1:58Speaker 2: of the tunnel. It was just I loved it and
- 2:01Speaker 2: I loved her, and I just felt like she was
- 2:03Speaker 2: one of our people, Tony.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And at the end, I said, oh, do you think
- 2:07Speaker 3: you'd ever go back into business? And she said, yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 3: I think I would. You know, And you don't You
- 2:12Speaker 3: don't hear that a lot, you know, kind of yeah,
- 2:15Speaker 3: you get exactly you get burned when you do something
- 2:19Speaker 3: and then you're like, well, I'm not gonna try That
- 2:21Speaker 3: went terribly, but yeah, she was super positive. So and
- 2:24Speaker 3: in the show, not as I actually put, Prepare to
- 2:26Speaker 3: be empowered. And it's so true because if you haven't
- 2:30Speaker 3: listened to it, go back and listen to it.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I really really loved it. Jess. This week's Deep Dive,
- 2:35Speaker 2: I heard her a bit of a different feature had
- 2:37Speaker 2: me it did? Have you? What did we talk about
- 2:40Speaker 2: this week?
- 2:41Speaker 4: So we had a really interesting chat about the psychology
- 2:44Speaker 4: behind saving and spending because obviously, Victoria, you have your
- 2:47Speaker 4: degrees after you in psychology, so I think you're kind
- 2:51Speaker 4: of uniquely positioned to comment on that because you kind
- 2:54Speaker 4: of bridge the two worlds between finance and psychology, and
- 2:57Speaker 4: psychology impacts so much of what we do that we
- 3:00Speaker 4: maybe don't realize. Marketing is so strategic and clever. And
- 3:04Speaker 4: we spoke about the different personality types when it comes
- 3:07Speaker 4: to your money, and that.
- 3:09Speaker 2: We feel like we might have got a bit off track.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Is that why the whole team had to do the
- 3:13Speaker 5: Myers Briggs test?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah? And do you know what is actually really interesting?
- 3:18Speaker 2: Jess and I went on such a tangent, and halfway
- 3:20Speaker 2: through recording that podcast, I was like, hold up, hold up,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I just want to google this properly and like look
- 3:25Speaker 2: into what the different things are so that I fully
- 3:27Speaker 2: understand it, because I know exactly what I am. In fact,
- 3:30Speaker 2: I don't just know what I think. I think I'm
- 3:32Speaker 2: still certified in being able to analyze the NB.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Yeah, well that's what you get when you have all
- 3:38Speaker 3: those degrees.
- 3:40Speaker 5: I love how you've got a certification. And we just
- 3:41Speaker 5: did a BuzzFeed quiz.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, no, I can present the results to other people.
- 3:50Speaker 3: And I just got a free email.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you want to do that and get
- 3:55Speaker 2: your free email, we actually put the link for you
- 3:57Speaker 2: to get your free email and MBT in the show
- 4:00Speaker 2: of the Wednesday episode. But Jess and I literally went
- 4:03Speaker 2: on a tangent and we found it so interesting because
- 4:06Speaker 2: it turns out we have exactly the same personality type.
- 4:09Speaker 2: So historically when I've done it, I know that I'm
- 4:11Speaker 2: an IRONFJ And then Jess was like, wait, hold on,
- 4:14Speaker 2: let me go into my emails and look it up,
- 4:16Speaker 2: and it turns out Jess is exactly the same, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: so we put the link in the slack chat of
- 4:21Speaker 2: our team, which is just like our team group chat,
- 4:23Speaker 2: I would say, And we've been learning a whole heap
- 4:26Speaker 2: this week just about what personalities we have and what
- 4:29Speaker 2: personality Tony is. And I think we all understood that
- 4:32Speaker 2: that was your personality. And I can't remember what you got,
- 4:35Speaker 2: but I was like, oh that makes sense.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I'm an EESFJ.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah that's a sense.
- 4:40Speaker 4: That was like, you are absolutely extroverted, that's for sure.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, she's our extroverted friend. And then we got
- 4:46Speaker 2: Ryan's and I wasn't surprised when his came back with
- 4:48Speaker 2: introverted at the start, because you're good at putting on
- 4:51Speaker 2: a show, Ryan, But I think you like hanging out
- 4:54Speaker 2: with your dog, is that right?
- 4:55Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah. Humans take energy from me. I get my
- 4:58Speaker 6: energy from my alone time. I don't like people. It's
- 5:02Speaker 6: just like that's where my.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Energy is the same as me, Like, I obviously adore people,
- 5:06Speaker 2: but I also love my own time and that's where
- 5:08Speaker 2: I get my energy.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Yeah, don't get me wrong. I do hate a lot
- 5:11Speaker 5: of people.
- 5:12Speaker 2: All right, But it's all about understanding yourself and what
- 5:15Speaker 2: you're willing to take on and what you can actually tolerate,
- 5:19Speaker 2: and I guess to loop back to making this about money,
- 5:21Speaker 2: because it turns out this podcast is called She's on
- 5:23Speaker 2: the Money. It's all about understanding how you make decisions
- 5:28Speaker 2: around money and where that actually stems from. And we
- 5:30Speaker 2: discussed just the different money personality types and how you
- 5:33Speaker 2: would relate to that. And that's how we got off
- 5:35Speaker 2: track to MBTI because at the end of the day, like,
- 5:38Speaker 2: it's really interesting learning about yourself. I think a lot
- 5:41Speaker 2: of people if you listen to the podcast and see
- 5:44Speaker 2: me on social media, you would immediately think I'm extroverted,
- 5:48Speaker 2: because I'm good at being extroverted. I'm good at putting
- 5:51Speaker 2: myself out there. But the people that are closest to
- 5:54Speaker 2: me know that at the end of the day, you
- 5:56Speaker 2: need to I'm done by yourself. Yeah, I'm done. I'm
- 5:59Speaker 2: going home. I'm probably the first person to tap out.
- 6:02Speaker 2: When we go out for dinner. I'll be like, yep, cool,
- 6:04Speaker 2: well that's nine thirty. That's me. I'm going home to
- 6:07Speaker 2: my fluffy socks and my dog in a cup of tea.
- 6:10Speaker 6: That's actually why they say partying, Like when people talk
- 6:13Speaker 6: about partying with Victoria, they call the little ray of
- 6:16Speaker 6: sunshine is because you'll never see her out after eight
- 6:18Speaker 6: o'clock at night.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Oh, that's really mean about daylight.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Samings nine o'clock. Speaking of still having fun after the
- 6:26Speaker 3: sun goes down, we're drinking while.
- 6:28Speaker 2: We are and this week I'm actually really impressed with
- 6:32Speaker 2: the drink. And Tony, do you want to introduce it?
- 6:35Speaker 3: So it's a twenty third Street Distillery gin and tonic.
- 6:39Speaker 3: No sugar, thank you very much, because Tonic is like
- 6:43Speaker 3: a hidden sugar demon.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Sugar, Yeah it doesn't.
- 6:47Speaker 3: So hidden sugar demon. I don't know what that means.
- 6:50Speaker 2: But it is twenty third Street Distillery, not hidden sugar demon.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I think this is the best drink we've had in age.
- 6:57Speaker 6: It also says it has a calculated hint of sweetness.
- 7:00Speaker 6: No sugar, but a calculated hint of sweetness.
- 7:04Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 7:05Speaker 4: I don't know, but I like it.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I really like it. But in saying that, I
- 7:09Speaker 2: already knew I was gonna like it because I do
- 7:11Speaker 2: really like the twin Can Street. Oh, by the way,
- 7:14Speaker 2: the cat, but also like their gin. And the other day,
- 7:18Speaker 2: if you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen
- 7:20Speaker 2: me make a gluten free dairy free version of Gigi
- 7:23Speaker 2: her Did's vodka pasta with their vodka. Oh, I sound
- 7:28Speaker 2: like an ad, Yeah you do. I paid for this,
- 7:30Speaker 2: I've never even spoken. I'd welcome it with open arms. Absolutely.
- 7:35Speaker 2: If you want to slide into my DM's twenty third
- 7:38Speaker 2: Street distillery, I'll talk to you. But till then, I'll
- 7:41Speaker 2: keep making my vod CA pasta ten out of ten.
- 7:43Speaker 2: By the way, all right, enough about Gin, More about Win.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Did you hear Ryan John? What money Winter have we
- 7:53Speaker 2: got from the community?
- 7:54Speaker 5: First of all?
- 7:55Speaker 6: And get ready to cheer and cry. This stuff really
- 7:58Speaker 6: gets to me. Maybe that music is not appropriate for this,
- 7:59Speaker 6: Onne Sandy says, money win Hi. Sandy booked in an
- 8:04Speaker 6: IVF procedure and was asked to do a HSG test
- 8:07Speaker 6: before proceeding.
- 8:08Speaker 5: It costs five hundred dollars.
- 8:10Speaker 6: Yeah, and as a lot of people may know or
- 8:13Speaker 6: may not know, IVF as a.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Whole, it's really expensive.
- 8:16Speaker 6: Yeah, she said, I paid the five hundred dollars, but
- 8:18Speaker 6: I don't need to pay any more money because we
- 8:20Speaker 6: got pregnant naturally.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Congratulations.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Can you imagine being like, all right, we're going to
- 8:29Speaker 2: go through this really expensive, really arduous process like IVF
- 8:33Speaker 2: is a big decision.
- 8:35Speaker 3: To emotionally tings not.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Even know you're pregnant.
- 8:38Speaker 3: But that's really really exciting, Sandy, congratulations, she's on the baby.
- 8:43Speaker 5: She's on the baby.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Baby co me soon.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Jennifer says, I worked at the night shift over the
- 8:48Speaker 6: public holidays in Western Australia over the last fortnight and
- 8:50Speaker 6: scored some major penalty rates day. I earned five hundred
- 8:54Speaker 6: dollars extra after tax and then went straight into my
- 8:58Speaker 6: commseck account and straight towards more.
- 8:59Speaker 3: She yay, love that great job.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Now.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Emily joined Amazon Prime for a free thirty day trial.
- 9:06Speaker 4: I love Prime.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Now Jesse is literally the Prime Queen.
- 9:10Speaker 6: So you'll over Prime day Amazon Prime.
- 9:13Speaker 2: How many packages have arrived at our office, Jessica, stay
- 9:16Speaker 2: tuned for that a little later in the show.
- 9:19Speaker 6: Well, because it's free shipping for members, Emily thought, if
- 9:23Speaker 6: I get the free trial during Prime days, I can
- 9:25Speaker 6: get all the sales, get the free shipping. But it's
- 9:28Speaker 6: not She's not done just yet. I found that She's
- 9:31Speaker 6: on the Money book for just nineteen dollars on Amazon,
- 9:35Speaker 6: and I received a fifteen dollar voucher from Amazon because
- 9:37Speaker 6: it was my first order, which means the book cost
- 9:39Speaker 6: me just four dollars with free shipping.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I'm really excited about that.
- 9:44Speaker 6: Money went for Emily, money lost for Victoria.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I'm about that. But also I launched my book last
- 9:51Speaker 2: week and it's already discounted. Like I get the point.
- 9:54Speaker 5: We need to move this thing. I got this I
- 9:56Speaker 5: speaking of the new book.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Oh my gosh.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Yes.
- 9:58Speaker 4: We had our event last night that was so much fun.
- 10:01Speaker 4: We had to pull something together really quickly because we
- 10:04Speaker 4: had all these grand plans. We wanted to do this
- 10:06Speaker 4: amazing event, which we will still do on the download.
- 10:10Speaker 4: We're just waiting because you know Covid and Melbourney, it
- 10:12Speaker 4: won't be.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Called the book launch though, we'll find some other reason
- 10:15Speaker 2: to have as she's on the money party. Absolutely, and
- 10:19Speaker 2: we did not do that much planning for it to
- 10:22Speaker 2: just all go in the binn.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Absolutely not. But you know who did do a lot
- 10:25Speaker 4: of planning our friends at U Bank. They actually helped
- 10:28Speaker 4: us bring the event to life, which was amazing and
- 10:30Speaker 4: I just want to say thank you so much to
- 10:32Speaker 4: them because we gave them pretty much no notice and
- 10:34Speaker 4: they were like, nope, okay, great, what can we do?
- 10:36Speaker 4: How can we do it?
- 10:37Speaker 2: And we want to make so sweet. They've bent over backwards.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But obviously, you guys know that we've never worked with
- 10:43Speaker 2: U Bank before except Ryan and I once did videos
- 10:46Speaker 2: for U Bank for their hot dollars campaign and it
- 10:48Speaker 2: was actually I love yeah, and my gosh, it was
- 10:53Speaker 2: so much fun doing and I remember when they reached
- 10:55Speaker 2: out and I was just super stoked because I was like, yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 2: I will do a hot sauce money finance video. Like
- 11:00Speaker 2: I was sold before we even got there anyway. Through that,
- 11:04Speaker 2: one thing led to another, and I actually got to
- 11:06Speaker 2: become friends with their CEO, Philipart. They've got this is
- 11:14Speaker 2: She's on the money. Like, how cool is it that
- 11:16Speaker 2: we're now, you know, being able to work with the
- 11:18Speaker 2: bank that has a female CEO and she's just like
- 11:21Speaker 2: this ultimate boss woman that just she runs an entire bank.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Guys like I just think it's so cool and just
- 11:27Speaker 2: so inspiring, and I am really grateful that when I
- 11:30Speaker 2: was like, hey, guys, like, are you planning on putting
- 11:32Speaker 2: this song because obviously with COVID, our actual event has
- 11:34Speaker 2: been canned, and they're like, yep, we'll make it happen,
- 11:37Speaker 2: no problems, And they literally worked over the weekend to
- 11:40Speaker 2: make sure that everything was good to go by this week,
- 11:44Speaker 2: which was really sweet.
- 11:45Speaker 4: And the event was so much fun as well. Thank
- 11:47Speaker 4: you to everyone who attended. We had a great time
- 11:49Speaker 4: and it wasn't maybe quite as good as an in
- 11:52Speaker 4: person event, but it was pretty freaking close.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It was very close.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you so much.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Was there a DJ who played the saxophone?
- 11:59Speaker 2: There wasn't.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Well, it wasn't as good as the real one.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Okay, sorry, oh spoil USAKA Jess and I. All right,
- 12:07Speaker 2: just to talk about the event that was gonna happen.
- 12:09Speaker 2: We obviously could not announce it because the week that
- 12:12Speaker 2: we had planned this massive announcement and roll out of
- 12:15Speaker 2: what was going on COVID. Need we say more? But
- 12:20Speaker 2: Jess and I had booked like Peach Fairy Floss in
- 12:22Speaker 2: this like DJ that had a saxophone, Like we was
- 12:25Speaker 2: gonna be a lot of fun.
- 12:26Speaker 4: We went in on this party and we had plans
- 12:29Speaker 4: for all of these fun goodie bags, and some of
- 12:31Speaker 4: our favorite favorite brands have sent us amazing things.
- 12:33Speaker 2: So and now we just have boxes of these favorite
- 12:36Speaker 2: things and we're like, we will use them. We promise
- 12:38Speaker 2: they will get to our audio.
- 12:39Speaker 4: They're coming, So I guess keep an eye out, stay tuned.
- 12:42Speaker 4: We have no idea when that's gonna happen, but.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Hopefully, but we're talking about it, right And I did
- 12:47Speaker 2: pitch the idea that instead of just having one Melbourne event,
- 12:50Speaker 2: we do a series of events around Australia. If COVID
- 12:54Speaker 2: lets us do something like that. She's on the road trip,
- 12:57Speaker 2: she's on tour.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Oh no, I like she on the road, she's.
- 13:01Speaker 5: On the minivan. No, you guys aren't minivan travelers.
- 13:04Speaker 3: You're tour bus, private jet.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Please imagine if we got a tour bus and like,
- 13:12Speaker 2: paint do you paint? Did you wrap it?
- 13:14Speaker 3: I want to make I want those magnets that they
- 13:17Speaker 3: put on the side of a Domino's car.
- 13:21Speaker 2: It's like Victoria, that's probably all our budget.
- 13:25Speaker 6: All right, I've got another book related money in. EM says,
- 13:29Speaker 6: not my money win exactly, but I created a money
- 13:32Speaker 6: win for someone else. I left a copy of Victoria's
- 13:36Speaker 6: new book on the bench at work in the staff
- 13:38Speaker 6: room as an anonymous I left. She didn't like it.
- 13:41Speaker 3: She read it, left it in the staff room.
- 13:44Speaker 6: I said sorry, EM said, I left it with instructions
- 13:47Speaker 6: for them to pass it on to the next person
- 13:49Speaker 6: once they had finished. Follow up, Taylor said, oh, Taylor
- 13:55Speaker 6: must work with him. I found a book in the
- 13:58Speaker 6: work lunch and I picked it up this morning, thank
- 14:01Speaker 6: you very much. And then em replied to that it
- 14:03Speaker 6: was supposed to be an anonymous gift. And now I've
- 14:04Speaker 6: outed myself and I believe they both work at a Woolworth.
- 14:10Speaker 6: So I was in the staff room out the back
- 14:11Speaker 6: of a release.
- 14:12Speaker 4: That is so cool.
- 14:13Speaker 2: I love that, all right.
- 14:15Speaker 6: Lucy says, got quoted eight thousand dollars for dental work,
- 14:19Speaker 6: which is a lot.
- 14:20Speaker 3: That's so much money.
- 14:21Speaker 6: I paid fifty two dollars to get a second opinion.
- 14:24Speaker 6: You dentist solved my problems on the spot.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Money. We have seven one and forty eight dollars.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Wow, what she's.
- 14:31Speaker 6: Like, Oh, that sounds like a big deal. I might
- 14:33Speaker 6: just go get it double checked, like from another dentist
- 14:35Speaker 6: and another.
- 14:35Speaker 5: D's fifty dollars.
- 14:37Speaker 6: You don't need that surgery. I'll take care of that
- 14:38Speaker 6: for you right now. Yeah, eight thousand dollars surgery avoided.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Was it a man in the wools stuff checking that this.
- 14:46Speaker 6: Is all good.
- 14:48Speaker 5: And final? One?
- 14:49Speaker 6: Indiana says got thirty dollars worth of chicken for three dollars.
- 14:52Speaker 6: The other day, her friend Lucy replied, salmonella for free.
- 15:06Speaker 2: All right, So, Tony and Jess we've been talking this
- 15:09Speaker 2: week in the office a fair bit about some changes
- 15:12Speaker 2: that are going to be made to SUPER in the
- 15:14Speaker 2: next month, which I'm genuinely excited about because yay financial freedom.
- 15:18Speaker 2: But also I feel like we're not talking about it
- 15:22Speaker 2: publicly as much as we could. So as of the
- 15:25Speaker 2: first of July, our superanuation guarantee, which is the amount
- 15:29Speaker 2: of SUPER that our employer legally has to pay us,
- 15:32Speaker 2: is going to increase, which I'm so excited about because
- 15:35Speaker 2: over the next few years through to twenty twenty five,
- 15:38Speaker 2: the government is actually planning on taking our SUPER all
- 15:41Speaker 2: the way up to twelve percent instead.
- 15:42Speaker 4: I didn't realize it was going that high.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's going up to twelve percent instead of
- 15:47Speaker 2: nine point five percent, which is obviously a very significant
- 15:50Speaker 2: increase to the amount of superannuation that you put aside,
- 15:52Speaker 2: and I think it's well over due, if I'm being honest,
- 15:55Speaker 2: because of inflation and literally everything else, and too many
- 15:58Speaker 2: times employers don't get their people pay rises in line
- 16:02Speaker 2: with CPI and indexation, and the fact that they actually
- 16:06Speaker 2: need to increase the amount of money that they have,
- 16:09Speaker 2: because you know, if we distill it down, the amount
- 16:11Speaker 2: of money that you need today is actually less than
- 16:14Speaker 2: what you would need in three years time, because you know,
- 16:17Speaker 2: a life of bread might be three dollars today, but
- 16:19Speaker 2: it will be three fifty in you know, three years time.
- 16:21Speaker 2: And that's what inflation actually means, Like it's inflating costs
- 16:25Speaker 2: over time and the rising price of goods and services,
- 16:28Speaker 2: which is absolutely fine and very normal. But I just
- 16:31Speaker 2: don't think we've ever kept up with that when it
- 16:33Speaker 2: comes to superannuation, because what was appropriate when SUPER became
- 16:37Speaker 2: mandated in nineteen ninety two is very different to what
- 16:40Speaker 2: needs to happen now, So it to me is well overdue.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But the conversation that's been happening in the office before
- 16:46Speaker 2: I get to techniques.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Because everyone like, hang on, what is she doing?
- 16:51Speaker 2: She was talking about her wins and confessions and community
- 16:53Speaker 2: and now I was just talking about super we did
- 16:55Speaker 2: not need. It's one of those conversations that I want
- 16:59Speaker 2: to have because this podcast is all about empowering you
- 17:02Speaker 2: to have better money conversations, and at the moment, there
- 17:04Speaker 2: is a money conversation that is going to impact everybody
- 17:07Speaker 2: who is employed at the moment getting paid superannuation that
- 17:11Speaker 2: we might not all be comfortable to have. And I
- 17:13Speaker 2: thought it was a good time on Friday drinks to
- 17:16Speaker 2: have avent with my team about how would you approach
- 17:19Speaker 2: this and how do we talk about this with our
- 17:21Speaker 2: employer and why are we going to do that? So
- 17:24Speaker 2: let me just talk for a second about why it's
- 17:26Speaker 2: really important for you to have a conversation with your
- 17:28Speaker 2: employer about how that change is going to impact you.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Because you might have thought great, like that's fabulous, where
- 17:33Speaker 2: is that money coming from? So if you have a
- 17:36Speaker 2: contract with an employer that you know your contract says
- 17:39Speaker 2: it includes super, there's a very high probability that that
- 17:43Speaker 2: increase in super. It's only zero point five percent right now,
- 17:47Speaker 2: but over the next few years it's going to creep
- 17:49Speaker 2: up to twelve percent. So that which is a lot,
- 17:51Speaker 2: which is a lot, is going to come out of
- 17:53Speaker 2: your take home salary. So if you are an employee
- 17:56Speaker 2: who is paid on an including super basis, might have
- 18:00Speaker 2: a rude shot coming for you in the first of
- 18:02Speaker 2: July if you haven't had a discussion with your employer
- 18:04Speaker 2: and you don't actually understand it because they could take
- 18:07Speaker 2: that money from your take home pay and just reallocate
- 18:11Speaker 2: it towards superannuation.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Legal.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Look, it is absolutely legal because that's a part of
- 18:15Speaker 2: your salary package. So for example, if I said, Ryan,
- 18:18Speaker 2: you're on a salary of seventy thousand dollars including SUPER,
- 18:22Speaker 2: very nice, very sexy, they might just reallocate what goes
- 18:26Speaker 2: towards SUPER so that they still meet that commitment. And
- 18:29Speaker 2: it's absolutely well within their rights to do that. But
- 18:32Speaker 2: I guess that comes into a moral conversation and an
- 18:34Speaker 2: actual logical conversation and are you doing the right thing
- 18:37Speaker 2: by your employees? And yeah, we've had a good conversation
- 18:40Speaker 2: this week, Tony, how do you feel about it?
- 18:42Speaker 3: So then would that, in that situation be my responsibility
- 18:45Speaker 3: to check in that they are doing the right thing,
- 18:48Speaker 3: because I mean, we talk about it all the time.
- 18:51Speaker 3: How intimidating it is to bring up Yeah, for sure,
- 18:54Speaker 3: So I'm supposed to go into my boss's office and
- 18:56Speaker 3: you say, oh, I actually think that you're supposed to
- 18:59Speaker 3: be paying me more. And if you're not forebottle on
- 19:01Speaker 3: these things, which most people aren't because we aren't talking
- 19:03Speaker 3: about it. It's a pretty terrifying thing to think about
- 19:06Speaker 3: asking for more money, even when it's not actually a
- 19:09Speaker 3: pay rise, just like I just want to make sure
- 19:11Speaker 3: that you're allocating my fees properly. So how do you
- 19:14Speaker 3: suggest that people tackle that? I mean, I know that's
- 19:17Speaker 3: probably a huge question, but what are we supposed to do?
- 19:21Speaker 2: And that's the conversation I wanted to have.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I've led you straight there, thank you, But it.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Is really hard to have that conversation because a lot
- 19:29Speaker 2: of us, as much as we have these great podcasts,
- 19:31Speaker 2: so I think they're great, a podcast about, you know,
- 19:34Speaker 2: talking to your employer about pay rises, like most of us,
- 19:36Speaker 2: to be honest, haven't done that. Most of us haven't
- 19:38Speaker 2: had that conversation and scary. Yeah, and for some of us,
- 19:42Speaker 2: our employers might have sent out a letter already this
- 19:45Speaker 2: June and just said, hey, guys, this is how the
- 19:47Speaker 2: changes are going to impact you. In which case you're educated,
- 19:49Speaker 2: you know what's going on. You've probably been given the
- 19:52Speaker 2: right contact details to have a conversation about that. But
- 19:54Speaker 2: if this is the first time you're hearing about that,
- 19:56Speaker 2: in my opinion as an employer, it's not good. I
- 20:00Speaker 2: am lucky that our team is small enough that I've
- 20:03Speaker 2: verbally mentioned it to you guys. I think you're across it.
- 20:06Speaker 2: You know, the decision that we've made is accepted by
- 20:08Speaker 2: the team. You guys are super happy with it. It's
- 20:10Speaker 2: all well and good, right, So I don't need to
- 20:12Speaker 2: send out a formal letter. But if you work in
- 20:14Speaker 2: like a big corporate, usually the best way for them
- 20:16Speaker 2: to communicate with you guys on a big level is
- 20:20Speaker 2: to send out a letter and be like, hey, here's this,
- 20:21Speaker 2: here's HIL's contact, here's the time. If you want to
- 20:24Speaker 2: have this conversation before any changes are made, you need
- 20:28Speaker 2: to be having that conversation with your employee now and going, hey, Jess,
- 20:31Speaker 2: I noticed that you said that you weren't going to
- 20:34Speaker 2: do that, But I really think that, you know, the
- 20:35Speaker 2: opposite should be happening, or vice versa, or whatever you
- 20:38Speaker 2: think is fair for your situation. And you know, not
- 20:42Speaker 2: every single business, especially small businesses, are going to be
- 20:45Speaker 2: in a position where, you know, budgets might be tight.
- 20:47Speaker 2: We've just gone through COVID, like we're still going through COVID,
- 20:50Speaker 2: and that could be actually quite challenging for small businesses
- 20:54Speaker 2: to come up with you know, it might only be
- 20:56Speaker 2: zero point five percent of their super contributions, but if
- 21:00Speaker 2: they are running it on the line and they are,
- 21:02Speaker 2: you know, down to.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Every dollar, especially at the moment, Yeah, that's.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Such a big change for a business to have to
- 21:08Speaker 2: make that. I think that as much as it might
- 21:11Speaker 2: be a big change and they might not have to
- 21:13Speaker 2: absorb it, because I'm kind of on the fence right Like,
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm not saying give everyone a pay rise, nor negotiable
- 21:18Speaker 2: like you guys have got that, You're welcome. It was
- 21:21Speaker 2: something that I considered and I spoke to my bookkeeper
- 21:23Speaker 2: and I spoke to my accountant. It wasn't something that
- 21:25Speaker 2: I just said, Wow, we're made of money, let's do this.
- 21:28Speaker 2: It was more like, is this the right thing to do?
- 21:30Speaker 2: How do we do it? Like I considered it all
- 21:31Speaker 2: options and made a decision. But a lot of other
- 21:34Speaker 2: small businesses aren't in that situation. And I think that
- 21:36Speaker 2: that then comes down to communication. We're all adults. We
- 21:40Speaker 2: deserve to be spoken to like adults, and if our
- 21:42Speaker 2: business can't afford it, I think that they should just
- 21:45Speaker 2: be saying, hey, Tony, you know what this is changing,
- 21:47Speaker 2: we can't afford it. Here's why, and you'd probably be like, yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 2: no problems, Like I think it would be really challenging
- 21:53Speaker 2: to actually approach that, especially if you haven't spoken to
- 21:56Speaker 2: your boss or your manager about your salary before. Yeah,
- 21:59Speaker 2: because we've all been own into this position where something
- 22:01Speaker 2: is definitely changing. It could impact you regardless of what
- 22:05Speaker 2: your job role is. So if you're in a position
- 22:07Speaker 2: where like, well, vitue, I don't really care if it
- 22:09Speaker 2: comes out of my income or if it gets added, like,
- 22:12Speaker 2: I don't mind either way. They're great, good for you,
- 22:14Speaker 2: But some of us budget down to the very last cent,
- 22:17Speaker 2: and this is going to impact us, and we really
- 22:20Speaker 2: need to be aware of how to have that conversation.
- 22:22Speaker 5: If we work for a big company.
- 22:24Speaker 6: Yeah, is it every individual's job to speak to their
- 22:27Speaker 6: individual manager or is it more of you know, the
- 22:30Speaker 6: staff kind of getting together or speaking to their direct
- 22:32Speaker 6: manager and saying, hey, direct manager, can you speak to
- 22:34Speaker 6: your manager on behalf of the crew, because I'm guessing
- 22:37Speaker 6: it's not going to be a oh we'll give it
- 22:39Speaker 6: to those three people, but not those so it'll be
- 22:41Speaker 6: like a company decision, right, they're like a global change. Yeah,
- 22:43Speaker 6: But is there like channels to go through.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Look, there are channels to go through. I think it's
- 22:47Speaker 2: just talking to your direct manager. But I also know
- 22:50Speaker 2: that this is going to be a fickle conversation, and
- 22:52Speaker 2: to be honest, I am predicting some pretty nasty media
- 22:56Speaker 2: articles coming out about businesses who have decided not to
- 22:59Speaker 2: eat increase their employees' salaries and decide to just take
- 23:03Speaker 2: it from them.
- 23:04Speaker 6: If I found out they've taken job keeper and don't
- 23:06Speaker 6: pass on this, I'm going to be mad.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 23:10Speaker 6: If you're in a BEG company and you go and
- 23:11Speaker 6: speak to your manager, they're in the same boat as you.
- 23:13Speaker 6: They also want it. It's not like they're the one
- 23:16Speaker 6: losing money to give to you. They're with you.
- 23:18Speaker 4: So and that's the hard thing. I think every business
- 23:20Speaker 4: structure is different, and so maybe it's worth when you
- 23:23Speaker 4: approach that conversation instead of going oh, i'd really like
- 23:26Speaker 4: a pay rise, saying hey, like, I want to talk
- 23:29Speaker 4: about the super contribution that's being made. I think that
- 23:32Speaker 4: it's justified, and i'd really like to talk to you
- 23:34Speaker 4: about ensuring that that gap is met by you rather
- 23:37Speaker 4: than by it being taken from from me. Yeah, exactly right.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that that is well within your
- 23:43Speaker 2: rights to have that conversation. I'm just going to bounce
- 23:45Speaker 2: back to what you were saying before, Ryan, like, you know,
- 23:47Speaker 2: do you talk to your fellow staff members about it?
- 23:51Speaker 4: Yes?
- 23:51Speaker 2: And no, like I think you should like. From my
- 23:53Speaker 2: personal perspective, absolutely, I'm a very big advocate of talking
- 23:57Speaker 2: about your salary and sharing it if you're comfortable to
- 23:59Speaker 2: do so. And I don't think that any employer should
- 24:02Speaker 2: ever be ashamed of the salary that they're paying someone
- 24:05Speaker 2: to the point where they would be mad if one
- 24:07Speaker 2: employee spoke to another about how they.
- 24:09Speaker 5: They do that.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I was going to makes they do contract because some people,
- 24:13Speaker 2: but speaking from me as a professional, some people have
- 24:18Speaker 2: in their contracts clauses to not discuss pay and salary
- 24:21Speaker 2: And I just want you to tread really lightly around
- 24:24Speaker 2: that because more recently I've spoken to someone in the
- 24:27Speaker 2: Shees on the Money community who has been told off
- 24:30Speaker 2: for talking about pays to one of their team members
- 24:33Speaker 2: and they thought they were doing the right thing, and
- 24:35Speaker 2: to be honest, they were, from my personal opinion, absolutely
- 24:39Speaker 2: well within their rights. Someone new started they were being
- 24:42Speaker 2: paid a whole heap more than what they were being paid.
- 24:44Speaker 2: They approached their manager about us for a pay rise
- 24:46Speaker 2: and they're like, oh no, like that's definitely not what
- 24:48Speaker 2: they're being paid. So they're going back and forth on
- 24:51Speaker 2: who's lying and not, and it just became an absolute mess.
- 24:54Speaker 2: So I think it's one of those things where personally,
- 24:56Speaker 2: of course they think you should be talking about it.
- 24:58Speaker 2: We should openly talk about my but check your contracts
- 25:01Speaker 2: if you're going to do this, so that you don't
- 25:03Speaker 2: end up in a pickle, because the last thing I
- 25:05Speaker 2: need is you listening to if she's on the Money
- 25:07Speaker 2: episode going I'm so empowered, like this is so right,
- 25:10Speaker 2: she's so correct, and then finding yourself in HR's office
- 25:14Speaker 2: because you weren't supposed to do that and I know
- 25:16Speaker 2: that that's not the world we should live in, and
- 25:18Speaker 2: it makes me so mad. But we need to disclaim it.
- 25:22Speaker 2: We need to tell you that.
- 25:23Speaker 5: Is that a clause that we should be crossing off
- 25:25Speaker 5: the contract before we sign it?
- 25:27Speaker 4: Oh I would I wouldn't sign a contract.
- 25:28Speaker 6: I would absolutely not, because I've worked at a place
- 25:30Speaker 6: where they said, oh, we don't do this and then
- 25:32Speaker 6: are rocked up and they clearly did, and they're just like, oh,
- 25:34Speaker 6: we hope the others didn't tell you about it.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Oh that's crazy.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it just it breeds such a horrible culture of privacy.
- 25:42Speaker 3: And also, just like you said before, Victoria, if a
- 25:45Speaker 3: company is that embarrassed about what they're paying you that
- 25:48Speaker 3: they don't want you to talk to each other, then
- 25:49Speaker 3: it's probably a bigger problem than what you're really looking at.
- 25:53Speaker 4: If I saw that clause, my first immediate thought would be,
- 25:55Speaker 4: what are you trying to hide?
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, exactly right.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Yeah, that shouldn't be there. If you've got nothing hard,
- 26:00Speaker 4: you shouldn't be preventing.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I honestly feel so bad for your future employers if
- 26:05Speaker 2: you ever get She's terrifying. She's so tough, gosh.
- 26:11Speaker 4: Like, oh, people are gonna think I'm mean. You're not mean.
- 26:14Speaker 3: You're just so assertive, so empowered by knowledge, And I'm.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Like, can you imagine if I gave her her contract
- 26:22Speaker 2: and she was like yes, just by the way, change
- 26:24Speaker 2: all these clauses.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Like I was a nightmare when I worked in retail
- 26:27Speaker 4: because I knew all my rights and I told all
- 26:29Speaker 4: the other girls what their rights were as well.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Lava for you retail, We'll pop some stuff up online
- 26:37Speaker 2: because I think it's really important to talk about. But
- 26:39Speaker 2: it's also one of those things where this genuinely impacts you,
- 26:43Speaker 2: and these changes are going to be consistently made until
- 26:45Speaker 2: twenty twenty five when we reached that twelve percent, And
- 26:49Speaker 2: I think that we need to have these conversations and
- 26:51Speaker 2: just get clear on how we can have more conversations.
- 26:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I also have another thing to add.
- 26:56Speaker 2: I knew you did. That's why I was like, I
- 26:58Speaker 2: trailed off on conversations because you like stuck your hand
- 27:01Speaker 2: in the air and I was like, Ryan, what have
- 27:03Speaker 2: you got to tell us.
- 27:04Speaker 5: There's been a few stories in the group this week
- 27:06Speaker 5: about people not getting paid superannuation, So just let this
- 27:08Speaker 5: be another reminder. Just always check your pace list anyway.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Check check your as, log into your superinuation. It is
- 27:16Speaker 2: so easy to do. If you don't know your super details,
- 27:19Speaker 2: jump on the ato my Gov website, log into that
- 27:22Speaker 2: and it will tell you when you last got your
- 27:24Speaker 2: super payment. If you have not got one in the
- 27:27Speaker 2: last quarter, ask your employer, call the cops. Don't do that.
- 27:32Speaker 2: They don't care, so they're not going to be able
- 27:34Speaker 2: to help. Come at that point, they'll be like, oh,
- 27:35Speaker 2: do you even know your log in details and you're like, no,
- 27:37Speaker 2: that's why I called you. But it's really important to
- 27:42Speaker 2: understand that. And if you don't know your log in details,
- 27:44Speaker 2: just call your super fund. The amount of times I've
- 27:47Speaker 2: said on this podcast that the call center people are
- 27:49Speaker 2: really nice, really kind to people. They are so good
- 27:52Speaker 2: at what they do. Call them and be like, hey,
- 27:54Speaker 2: my know, Victoria, I have a super fund with you. Guys,
- 27:58Speaker 2: I just want to know more about it. Don't know
- 27:59Speaker 2: what details are? They go, oh, no, problems, we'll sort
- 28:02Speaker 2: you out.
- 28:02Speaker 3: A really good point that I think Jess raised last
- 28:05Speaker 3: week or the week before is that you are actually
- 28:08Speaker 3: paying fees. You are paying to be able to access
- 28:11Speaker 3: your own information. So and yes, the fees go to
- 28:13Speaker 3: good things, but yeah, myed help call them like, no,
- 28:18Speaker 3: they can't give you financial advice, so they can tell
- 28:21Speaker 3: you exactly what your fees are going towards and all
- 28:23Speaker 3: of that. So it's just be empowered.
- 28:25Speaker 2: To really call them. Be empowered by it. And it's
- 28:28Speaker 2: one of those things where if someone is not paying
- 28:30Speaker 2: you super, that is not acceptable, full stop, end of story.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Not only do they now have to pay you that super,
- 28:36Speaker 2: they have to pay you what you missed out in interest.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Oh love that?
- 28:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I do love that too.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Don't ever let somebody gaslight you, which is what they
- 28:45Speaker 2: do if they're a bad employer and they are going
- 28:48Speaker 2: to not pay your super. Oh no, Tony, maybe you
- 28:50Speaker 2: didn't read it right or we only do it this often.
- 28:53Speaker 2: You'll be like, it's been twelve months and then you
- 28:55Speaker 2: got you definitely should have.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Wrong, and it's so easy to do so.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you're really confused about when you're meant
- 29:01Speaker 2: to get paid SUPER, check your contract because it will
- 29:04Speaker 2: say like in the contract it might say and SUPER
- 29:07Speaker 2: is paid on a quarterly basis, or SUPER is paid
- 29:10Speaker 2: monthly with your salary, or some people pay it weekly
- 29:13Speaker 2: like it doesn't matter, but it will tell you how
- 29:15Speaker 2: often you were supposed to receive that payment. And then
- 29:19Speaker 2: you get to go and check it if that happened
- 29:21Speaker 2: or not, Like it shouldn't be something that is so
- 29:24Speaker 2: shadowed with I don't know how does it work? Like
- 29:27Speaker 2: I get it a payment was meant to happen, Go
- 29:29Speaker 2: check if it happened.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll take you ten minutes. At a maximum, it's
- 29:32Speaker 4: every three months. Legally they must pay you that Super
- 29:35Speaker 4: once every quarter. So yeah, as you said, if it's
- 29:38Speaker 4: been three months, I haven't done it, don't let them
- 29:40Speaker 4: be like, oh, we only pay it twice a year,
- 29:41Speaker 4: like they have to pay it.
- 29:43Speaker 2: And this stuff breaks me, Like I end up crying
- 29:46Speaker 2: at least once a week because of a story someone's
- 29:48Speaker 2: messaged me in my DMS, which I'm so grateful for,
- 29:50Speaker 2: please never stop. But the amount of messages I've gotten
- 29:54Speaker 2: after you know, doing super podcasts or just talking about
- 29:57Speaker 2: it on Instagram, for people being like, oh, hey, I
- 29:59Speaker 2: checked mine and my employee wasn't paying it, and so
- 30:01Speaker 2: I followed them up and it had been twelve months
- 30:03Speaker 2: or it had been two years, And it's just it's
- 30:05Speaker 2: wild what people get away with because they rely on
- 30:09Speaker 2: your naivity, They rely on the fact that you just
- 30:11Speaker 2: trusted them to do the right thing. That's gross, Yeah
- 30:14Speaker 2: it is. Yeah, But enough of me ranting on about
- 30:17Speaker 2: superannuation and us being empowered, because as you guys know,
- 30:20Speaker 2: I literally could go on forever. So I just do
- 30:23Speaker 2: I really click by a round of our money wins
- 30:26Speaker 2: or confessions and then we can run away for the week.
- 30:28Speaker 2: How about that?
- 30:29Speaker 3: Yeah? All right?
- 30:30Speaker 2: I nominate Jessicagi as tribute and she gets to go
- 30:34Speaker 2: first because she baited us earlier and said that we
- 30:37Speaker 2: had to wait.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Well, I have a confessions. It was Amazon Prime Day
- 30:42Speaker 4: this week, and I'm usually pretty good with my money.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I'm usually quite good about like knowing what I want
- 30:49Speaker 4: and waiting for it go and sale. And I did
- 30:51Speaker 4: do that, but I also found myself with an assortment
- 30:54Speaker 4: of items in my cart that I had wanted whimsically
- 30:58Speaker 4: at some point or another, and because they were on
- 31:00Speaker 4: really good deals for Prime Day, I was like, now's
- 31:03Speaker 4: the time you get all right?
- 31:05Speaker 2: So we we got something delivered earlier this week into
- 31:08Speaker 2: the office, Jessica and I had a hot turn of it.
- 31:10Speaker 2: What was it?
- 31:11Speaker 4: I got the Split End Trimmer Pro.
- 31:15Speaker 2: What even is that?
- 31:16Speaker 4: So it's a device that you like. Essentially it cuts
- 31:19Speaker 4: off just the split ends. And when I got it out,
- 31:22Speaker 4: Tony looked at me and was like, no, they're not.
- 31:26Speaker 2: It's like a rotating blade and it sucks your hair in.
- 31:29Speaker 4: And specifically targets the split Have you used it?
- 31:33Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 31:33Speaker 5: I saw earlier today. I was like, she's used the Yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 5: she's done it.
- 31:39Speaker 4: I will report back on that one. But also in
- 31:43Speaker 4: addition to that, I ended up with a massage gun,
- 31:46Speaker 4: like one of those yeah, absolutely, Actually, well I don't know,
- 31:52Speaker 4: it hasn't arrived.
- 31:53Speaker 5: Okay, how much was that?
- 31:54Speaker 6: So?
- 31:54Speaker 4: I think it was one twenty down from two hundreds,
- 31:58Speaker 4: so it was a good deal. But like, it's still
- 31:59Speaker 4: a lot, and like I play a I played.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Frisbee, Ultimate frisbee or a sport, which one.
- 32:10Speaker 4: For you, And a selection of other delightful items which
- 32:18Speaker 4: arguably I did not need, but I definitely did want.
- 32:21Speaker 4: And while I'm very fortunate that I have the room
- 32:23Speaker 4: in my budget to.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Do that, you don't anymore.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it. No more sending for the next month.
- 32:29Speaker 3: It's all right. That's why we can't go out for
- 32:30Speaker 3: dinner tonight because Jests bought a massage gun.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Imagine she would say that too, She'd be like, sorry, guys,
- 32:36Speaker 2: I prioritize the massage without me, all right.
- 32:41Speaker 3: So I very cold winter in Melbourne at the moment,
- 32:45Speaker 3: as anybody who is in Victoria will know, I've needed
- 32:48Speaker 3: a proper woolen coat for a really long time. I've
- 32:52Speaker 3: lived in Melbourne now for four years and still haven't
- 32:55Speaker 3: splurged on one. And I bought this coat and it
- 32:57Speaker 3: was one hundred dollars and I checked it today because
- 33:00Speaker 3: I was like, oh, is it supposed to come with
- 33:03Speaker 3: a spare button? Really dorky? I know it is now
- 33:06Speaker 3: back to two hundred and fifty dollars money.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Money We That was actually such a good purchase from
- 33:12Speaker 2: you because you spent so long researching that. I did
- 33:16Speaker 2: the amount of times that link had come sent to
- 33:18Speaker 2: me on Slack and you're like, what about this? And
- 33:20Speaker 2: I was like, Oh, what's its composition?
- 33:21Speaker 4: Is it wall?
- 33:22Speaker 2: And You're like, yeah, it's wall And I'm like, oh,
- 33:23Speaker 2: that's a good deal. One hundred dollars for actually wool coat.
- 33:26Speaker 5: Is it one of those ones that you'll wear four
- 33:28Speaker 5: times a.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Week every years because your.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Rule is five dollars per week and you'll smash that out.
- 33:33Speaker 3: In one hundred percent And it would have taken me
- 33:36Speaker 3: over twice as long if I'd paid full price.
- 33:38Speaker 2: So I'm very proud of my money win. I really
- 33:41Speaker 2: liked the coat as well. You look very beautiful.
- 33:43Speaker 6: Thank you, Bryan, you got what bridget myself and BJ
- 33:47Speaker 6: we are now a one car family instead of a
- 33:50Speaker 6: two car.
- 33:52Speaker 3: CJ finally sold his car.
- 33:54Speaker 6: Did he barely drove it so Bridget's been catching the
- 33:58Speaker 6: tram into work. We bare used the second car, so
- 34:01Speaker 6: we went, you know.
- 34:01Speaker 3: What, two cars that I must be yet we both used.
- 34:05Speaker 6: To have to drive to work and now we don't.
- 34:07Speaker 6: So we've sold one car. But not only is the
- 34:09Speaker 6: win the money from the sole car. We just took
- 34:11Speaker 6: it to like a used car sales thing, but it's
- 34:14Speaker 6: the second insurance.
- 34:15Speaker 5: We don't have to pay the second rejo. We don't
- 34:17Speaker 5: have to go. Yeah, the on gar.
- 34:19Speaker 6: I mean, you don't need us to tell you that
- 34:21Speaker 6: cars just suck money from your life. So to be
- 34:23Speaker 6: able to remove one of them, I think that not
- 34:25Speaker 6: only is the win now, but it will be an
- 34:26Speaker 6: ongoing win for us, A good one. That's a great win.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I really like that. That makes mine seem not
- 34:31Speaker 2: so good now.
- 34:32Speaker 4: We still want to hear it.
- 34:34Speaker 2: No, well, mine's not car related. It's actually backfashion related.
- 34:38Speaker 2: It's like not a jacket, but it is a robe.
- 34:41Speaker 2: So I've decided that this is my money win because
- 34:44Speaker 2: I have been speaking to the team for a very
- 34:46Speaker 2: long time about not owning a bathrobe. So I don't
- 34:49Speaker 2: own a bathrobe. And our friend Jess literally could not
- 34:53Speaker 2: comprehend the fact that I did not own a bathrobe.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I live for my robe. Yea, it is the best
- 34:58Speaker 4: money ever.
- 34:59Speaker 3: I joined the car a year ago, last when COVID
- 35:02Speaker 3: first happened, and yeah, best money ever.
- 35:04Speaker 4: If you really want to feel good, get an ankle
- 35:06Speaker 4: length one.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So I did all my research because I didn't want
- 35:13Speaker 2: like their big bulky things. In my head, they were
- 35:15Speaker 2: like going to take up all this wardrobe space and
- 35:17Speaker 2: like they were going to be hard to store. And
- 35:19Speaker 2: turns out I'm definitely not worried about that anymore. This
- 35:23Speaker 2: prime place in my wardrobe. But I did all my
- 35:26Speaker 2: research and I was like, one hundred and fifty dollars, like,
- 35:28Speaker 2: this is a lot of money for a robe that
- 35:30Speaker 2: nobody else is going to see. And so I started
- 35:33Speaker 2: looking into them and I ended up doing this whole
- 35:35Speaker 2: poll on my Instagram. Be guys, I want to know
- 35:38Speaker 2: where to get the best the hot topic. It was
- 35:39Speaker 2: a hot topic, right because they are hard to find, and.
- 35:43Speaker 6: Was I here on the list?
- 35:44Speaker 5: I feel like I kid, I.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Here got a run. Someone suggested that someone suggested that
- 35:52Speaker 2: I do have together.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Probably it's just a bunch of friends.
- 35:59Speaker 2: They give you all about They don't actually sell. They
- 36:02Speaker 2: don't sell robes, they just sell towers Diowa. But I
- 36:06Speaker 2: did all my research right, and I tried to work
- 36:09Speaker 2: out what the best one was. I'd been shopping and
- 36:11Speaker 2: I didn't like the textures of heaps of them because
- 36:13Speaker 2: I'm a very texture backs person. Anyway, I opened like
- 36:18Speaker 2: the questions on my Instagram, because like that's the best
- 36:20Speaker 2: thing about Instagram. You can ask the people, and they
- 36:23Speaker 2: all said skin Forward, and I was like, oh, like,
- 36:26Speaker 2: why didn't I think of that? Because it's run by
- 36:28Speaker 2: Joanna who works at a door beauty and runs the
- 36:30Speaker 2: beauty podcast.
- 36:31Speaker 6: Could those girls be any more better at life?
- 36:33Speaker 5: I don't even.
- 36:34Speaker 2: And this is not sponsored, by the way. I actually
- 36:36Speaker 2: spent my own money on this, Like she had nothing
- 36:38Speaker 2: to do with this process. Like I just did my
- 36:41Speaker 2: research purchased the thing. But it was like sixty bucks
- 36:45Speaker 2: in comparison to like the one hundred and fifty, and
- 36:48Speaker 2: I got it.
- 36:49Speaker 4: It is like a cloud.
- 36:50Speaker 2: I think it has been made out of threads from
- 36:52Speaker 2: unicorns and it like it's the best thing in the
- 36:55Speaker 2: entire world. My cats are obsessed with it. I'm obsessed
- 36:58Speaker 2: with it. I obviously look much a home than I
- 37:01Speaker 2: did before, and it's got pockets, pockets big enough for
- 37:05Speaker 2: snacks like as if that's not a money win, but anyway,
- 37:09Speaker 2: that's where I'm at.
- 37:10Speaker 3: That's a great money win.
- 37:12Speaker 2: We've got money wins and confessions done. We've talked about robes,
- 37:14Speaker 2: We've talked about superannuation, We've talked about Jessica's spending urges
- 37:18Speaker 2: this week and Ryan becoming a one car family. I
- 37:21Speaker 2: think we're done here, guys, But just before we head off,
- 37:25Speaker 2: we'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal
- 37:28Speaker 2: and torrist Right Islander people's. They're the traditional custodians of
- 37:32Speaker 2: the lands, the waterways and the skies all across Australia.
- 37:35Speaker 2: We thank you for sharing and for caring for the
- 37:37Speaker 2: land on which we are able to learn. We pay
- 37:40Speaker 2: respects to elders past and present, and we share our
- 37:42Speaker 2: friendship and our kindness.
- 37:44Speaker 3: The advice shared on She's on the Money is general
- 37:46Speaker 3: in nature and does not consider your individual circumstances. She's
- 37:50Speaker 3: on the Money exists purely for educational purposes and should
- 37:53Speaker 3: not be relied upon to make an investment or financial decision.
- 37:56Speaker 3: And we promise Victoria Devine is an authorized representative of
- 37:59Speaker 3: Alia Pacific Funds Management Proprietary Limited ABN three four one

- 38:08Speaker 2: Oh, you've got that. Why you're looking so shocked because
- 38:11Speaker 2: she stared at me the entire time. She didn't read that.
- 38:13Speaker 6: I know it was join us on Instagram, but she's

- 38:30Speaker 6: she's on the money.

- 38:35Speaker 2: It was the number one seller on book top. I
- 38:40Speaker 2: love that.
- 38:41Speaker 3: That wasn't your wing.
- 38:42Speaker 1: You talked about a bathroom.
- 38:44Speaker 2: I'm sorry, priority see you next week, guys.
- 38:47Speaker 4: Bye.
