- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:17Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. This is our Friday
- 0:20Speaker 2: Drinks episode where we celebrate the money wins from how
- 0:23Speaker 2: She's on the Money community. There are so many great
- 0:26Speaker 2: money wins and confessions shared every single week in our group,
- 0:29Speaker 2: and we spend, as I've said before, a very large
- 0:31Speaker 2: part of our week talking about them, and this podcast
- 0:34Speaker 2: is so that we can bring it to life. So
- 0:36Speaker 2: Friday is all about celebrating our community and having more
- 0:39Speaker 2: positive and constructive conversations about money. So let's jump straight
- 0:43Speaker 2: into it. Georgia, what happened on our deep dive this week?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Victoria?
- 0:49Speaker 4: Okay, so this week we chatted about buying property with
- 0:53Speaker 4: someone other than your significant other.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Oh, it was a good chat.
- 0:59Speaker 4: It was really interesting because at face value it sounds
- 1:02Speaker 4: like quite a good deal. It's a good way of
- 1:04Speaker 4: breaking into the market. Sooner you half your deposit, you
- 1:07Speaker 4: half your contributions win a winner. Turns out, as we've
- 1:10Speaker 4: revealed on the podcast, all is not what it seems.
- 1:13Speaker 4: There's like heaps of pitfalls that you need to be
- 1:15Speaker 4: mindful of.
- 1:16Speaker 5: So if you are.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Considering doing that would strongly recommend to listen.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I like that good summary, by the way, great summary,
- 1:23Speaker 2: And Tony Lodge, I believe that you are new to
- 1:26Speaker 2: the team, but also have been making a little bit
- 1:29Speaker 2: of a splashy oil podcast recently. Sure is that what
- 1:33Speaker 2: you've been doing?
- 1:35Speaker 1: A splash sounds really nice? But yeah, I guess So.
- 1:37Speaker 2: What happened this week? Were you on a Were you
- 1:40Speaker 2: on a podcast? I was, Oh, what did you do?
- 1:42Speaker 1: It was on a little money diary?
- 1:44Speaker 3: Ooh did you like it?
- 1:45Speaker 1: I loved it?
- 1:46Speaker 2: What was it about?
- 1:47Speaker 6: So we talked to a twenty six year old woman
- 1:50Speaker 6: who had her first child at seventeen and now has
- 1:53Speaker 6: three kids and is about to build her first home.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I loved her.
- 1:57Speaker 6: She's yeah, she's with a killin it. She started her
- 1:59Speaker 6: own business, like amazing.
- 2:01Speaker 7: I tell you something I didn't factor in until I
- 2:04Speaker 7: heard that episode is that you asked I think, Tony,
- 2:07Speaker 7: do you feel like you missed out when you were
- 2:09Speaker 7: nineteen twenty going partying and stuff? And she's like, oh,
- 2:12Speaker 7: not really, but I'm looking forward to my kids turning
- 2:14Speaker 7: eighteen when I'm like in my thirties, and then I
- 2:16Speaker 7: can go travel and they.
- 2:17Speaker 8: Can take care of themselves.
- 2:18Speaker 2: There's a genius.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks for appreciating my question.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I had great questions. I was saying, mister Ryan,
- 2:24Speaker 2: actually straight after the record, he was like, oh, I
- 2:26Speaker 2: had the money, Dorry go because as you guys know,
- 2:28Speaker 2: Ryan's been helping me out to do those recently. And
- 2:31Speaker 2: I was like, so, Tony asks great questions, and I
- 2:35Speaker 2: have officially booted Ryan from the money house. Sad and
- 2:39Speaker 2: you are nominated as tribute.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Have I got the full time?
- 2:42Speaker 2: You've got the full time?
- 2:44Speaker 8: This is how I find out how rude.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Okay, you knew this was coming. Don't act all sore
- 2:49Speaker 2: and as if that wasn't.
- 2:51Speaker 7: I wish I had a sad violin bed to see.
- 2:53Speaker 7: This is why I didn't get to keep the job.
- 2:54Speaker 1: No, you didn't.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I guess on that we should give Ryan some time
- 2:58Speaker 2: to shine and jump straight in to Ryn's community money
- 3:01Speaker 2: Wins of the Week.
- 3:02Speaker 7: I also just want to add before I get started,
- 3:04Speaker 7: I'm calling fake news and one of the money wins
- 3:06Speaker 7: I reckon jess our own Jessica Ricky who's in the studio,
- 3:09Speaker 7: has faked a profile to.
- 3:11Speaker 8: Leave a comment.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Yes, off, all right, let me explain what it is
- 3:16Speaker 7: so this lady who claims her name is Sophie.
- 3:20Speaker 2: She claims her name is Sophie.
- 3:22Speaker 8: It's definitely Jess money win.
- 3:24Speaker 7: So I decided to listen to the Friday Drinks podcast
- 3:27Speaker 7: while vacuuming my car, and I thought to myself, how
- 3:29Speaker 7: funny would it be if I found some money whilst
- 3:32Speaker 7: listening to She's on the Money whilst vacuuming my car.
- 3:35Speaker 7: I manifested the coins being hidden under the.
- 3:37Speaker 8: Seat and stuff.
- 3:38Speaker 7: Hitch, and you know what, Jess is right when you
- 3:41Speaker 7: manifest something at works. I found two dollars fifty in
- 3:44Speaker 7: my car.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I will take all apologies from those at the table currently.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Manifesting is a thing. I'm telling you right, I'm not
- 3:50Speaker 5: apologizing marketplace manifesting.
- 3:53Speaker 2: If someone was going to manifest money in their car,
- 3:55Speaker 2: you best believe I want more than two dollars fifty.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Now take the win.
- 3:58Speaker 1: That's the true holle off.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Can't eat soft serve ice creams.
- 4:03Speaker 8: It's funny you mentioned that v because Sophie.
- 4:07Speaker 7: Says, would it have killed the manifestation gods to at
- 4:10Speaker 7: least give me ten bucks?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Exactly?
- 4:13Speaker 7: I'm proud of you, Sophie, Melissa says money win decided
- 4:17Speaker 7: to stop buy a small garage sale and found a
- 4:19Speaker 7: beautiful pair of red shoes in.
- 4:21Speaker 8: My size, unworn for five dollars.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Five dollars. Again, that's two dollars fifty shoe.
- 4:29Speaker 7: You get tell who's the educated one in finance afforded
- 4:33Speaker 7: one shoe?
- 4:35Speaker 8: All right, Chelsea says.
- 4:36Speaker 7: My childcare a while ago had this thing where if
- 4:39Speaker 7: you signed up to the childcare you got a five
- 4:41Speaker 7: hundred dollar Coals voucher as like a welcome to the
- 4:44Speaker 7: child I think, she said.
- 4:45Speaker 8: She then signed up and found out she wasn't eligible.
- 4:48Speaker 8: What which you'd be ropable? I mean, yeah, five bucks one.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Hundred dollars is a lot of.
- 4:53Speaker 7: Money out, so I don't want to all carr in her.
- 4:55Speaker 7: But she wrote to the manager and she got the voucher. Yes,
- 5:00Speaker 7: oh now, hey, let me just change the music here
- 5:02Speaker 7: real quick.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Oh sex.
- 5:06Speaker 7: Alouise wants to discuss getting tickets to see Magic, Mic.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Isn't that a thing here?
- 5:12Speaker 3: Yes? It is coming. It is new.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I saw the ad on TV for it actually last night.
- 5:17Speaker 2: You sounds so exciting.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I am.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Have you not seen Magic, Mike?
- 5:22Speaker 5: I've seen the movie, but the thought of that in
- 5:24Speaker 5: person makes me wildly uncomfortable. Same here, Please grind from
- 5:28Speaker 5: at least a COVID, say five minutes. You know when
- 5:33Speaker 5: I love strip talk, like has anybody's like a there's
- 5:39Speaker 5: like a niche hole of TikTok where it's like strippers
- 5:42Speaker 5: and they like take you through their day and like
- 5:44Speaker 5: take you through like I love that.
- 5:46Speaker 3: It's so interesting.
- 5:47Speaker 2: And you share them with me, I'll send on. I'm
- 5:50Speaker 2: so for.
- 5:51Speaker 1: There's just like girls with daffel bags full of cash.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's amazing. They just make so much money. It's so cool.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Power to them.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I do.
- 6:00Speaker 2: We want to listen to Ryan or A.
- 6:02Speaker 7: No, let's quickly go around the room. How much do
- 6:04Speaker 7: you think a ticket is to magic.
- 6:06Speaker 8: My off the top of head?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Be I know, one forty whoa, That's.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Exactly what I was literally going to say.
- 6:12Speaker 8: Georgia twenty.
- 6:14Speaker 5: I was going to say like one.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Or one twenty. Okay, the answer is one hundred and
- 6:18Speaker 8: twenty nine dollars.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And I was sure we were so close.
- 6:21Speaker 8: I would have assumed like forty bucks or something.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It's a classy shot.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I just I've heard good thing.
- 6:28Speaker 5: Well.
- 6:29Speaker 7: Alouise said that they got some special code or something.
- 6:32Speaker 7: When they checked out the website, it was only seventy
- 6:35Speaker 7: nine dollars per person, so it's like fifty bucks saving
- 6:37Speaker 7: each and there was a big group of them, so
- 6:39Speaker 7: she saved about five hundred dollars for.
- 6:42Speaker 1: You, babe. That's going to be a great mon Now, Okay,
- 6:45Speaker 1: let's get rid of that music.
- 6:46Speaker 7: It's all right, Steph says money Win. I've been waiting
- 6:50Speaker 7: to get my eyebrows tattooed by a certain place in
- 6:53Speaker 7: Melbourne for years, but I just couldn't justify the cost
- 6:56Speaker 7: eight hundred dollars.
- 6:57Speaker 8: To one thousand.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, No, she needs to go see my
- 6:59Speaker 2: friend Brooks.
- 7:00Speaker 8: How much has they charged?
- 7:01Speaker 2: Oh my god, she's much less than that. And she's
- 7:03Speaker 2: like the best of the best, really, because I went
- 7:05Speaker 2: and saw what was quote the best brow tattooist in
- 7:09Speaker 2: Australia and she's based in Melbourne, butchered my brows and
- 7:12Speaker 2: I had to get them fixed.
- 7:13Speaker 5: And we get an extraordinary amount of people asking, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 5: your eyebrows?
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's why I'm actually talking about them because
- 7:20Speaker 2: the amount of dams I get. I literally had a
- 7:22Speaker 2: DM a day about someone being like, who does your brows.
- 7:25Speaker 2: The answer is brook Sutherland. You can find her at
- 7:27Speaker 2: brook Sutherland Beauty. But she's an actual wizard and their
- 7:31Speaker 2: tattoos by the way.
- 7:33Speaker 8: So Steph took a risk.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Oh gosh, yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 7: The place that she's wanted to go to. She had
- 7:38Speaker 7: her heart set on this one place. They put a
- 7:40Speaker 7: call out on Instagram saying we're looking for models because
- 7:44Speaker 7: we've got some students coming in. They're going to be
- 7:46Speaker 7: fully supervised and you know there's something in there teaching them.
- 7:49Speaker 7: They're at the right at the end of their course.
- 7:50Speaker 7: They're good to go.
- 7:51Speaker 8: And she undernawed and said, yep, I'm going to do it.
- 7:53Speaker 8: She went in.
- 7:54Speaker 7: They were perfect and they were zero dollars for the tattoo.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yess, money wins.
- 8:00Speaker 1: That's amazing, great job.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Brook definitely changes more than zero dollah.
- 8:04Speaker 7: Just quickly around the room real quick. Would you trust
- 8:06Speaker 7: a student, not that maybe not trust is the wrong way,
- 8:08Speaker 7: but I'd be nervous about something.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I'd be a bit nervous because it is your face.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fully supervised.
- 8:15Speaker 6: It's the same as Hey, you can go to like
- 8:16Speaker 6: the Tafa haircuts and stuff like.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Is that what you did?
- 8:23Speaker 8: Are you joking? Sorry? I didn't realize we're in the
- 8:26Speaker 8: TikTok comments.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Exit I had to I'm sorry.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Inside joke from the team. Tony's fringe has been bullied on,
- 8:44Speaker 2: very heavily on TikTok this week TikTok and tell her
- 8:48Speaker 2: she's cute.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Endurable and these people are being so mean.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 8: I want to be on the record as saying I
- 8:56Speaker 8: am pro fringe.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I'm pro freend too.
- 8:58Speaker 6: Thanks everyone, Georgia cut Oh no.
- 9:01Speaker 8: I let's say Georgia getting a tattoo from a student
- 9:04Speaker 8: for free.
- 9:04Speaker 2: No, we like Tony's fring.
- 9:07Speaker 4: No, so sorry, I love Tony's free thank you, but no,
- 9:11Speaker 4: I wouldn't. I would be too scared with the eyebrows situation.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Victoria colored mining the other day and it was frightening
- 9:16Speaker 4: to me.
- 9:17Speaker 5: So I feel like tats no, how dooo's in general
- 9:20Speaker 5: free me out, Like I go to a student for
- 9:22Speaker 5: a wax or for a die or whatever. But I
- 9:24Speaker 5: wouldn't do a tattoo just because that's there forever that
- 9:27Speaker 5: makes me nervous?
- 9:28Speaker 3: Are they there forever?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Fe So mine fade every twelve to eighteen months and
- 9:33Speaker 2: then they get them topped up. So I get what's
- 9:36Speaker 2: called ombre, and it's like just a really light powder
- 9:38Speaker 2: effect behind my brow so that they fade naturally over time.
- 9:43Speaker 2: So that's my wrap. I don't know how much more
- 9:45Speaker 2: eyebrow content you guys want, but I'm here for it.
- 9:48Speaker 7: Well, jess ses the DMS on Instagram that it turns
- 9:51Speaker 7: out it turns out too much eyebrow chat is never enough.
- 9:55Speaker 5: We've told you please leave me alone.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Okay, and welcoming is back. I think it is time
- 10:05Speaker 2: to jump into what we're drinking. Jessic got to read
- 10:08Speaker 2: she what have we got in our hot little hands today?
- 10:11Speaker 3: This week?
- 10:11Speaker 5: It's a fun little beveragino. It's another seltzer. We thought
- 10:14Speaker 5: we'd give them another go.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Why we didn't like the last one?
- 10:18Speaker 5: Well this is okay, so I do.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Like the last ones. We like the watermelon ones.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah, so we've been a bit hid and miss and
- 10:23Speaker 5: this time it's quite like. Some of us love it,
- 10:25Speaker 5: some of us are not so into it. But it's
- 10:27Speaker 5: the moondog fizzer alcoholic seltzer. It sounds divine, alcoholic, bubbly
- 10:32Speaker 5: water we bursts of passion fruit, mango, orange and pineapple.
- 10:35Speaker 5: I quite like it.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I love it.
- 10:38Speaker 5: These just sitting in the corner not loving their life.
- 10:41Speaker 2: I'm not sure if I'm sold on this Seltzer.
- 10:43Speaker 8: Thing like that as a whole.
- 10:45Speaker 2: As a whole, it's like very fragrant, which is it
- 10:49Speaker 2: smells amazing, It does smell amazing, and then it tastes
- 10:52Speaker 2: like fizzy water that has rubbing alcohol four against.
- 10:56Speaker 4: I'm neutral, like it's a session, Ben, but I wouldn't.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I wouldn't chose to end the day.
- 11:01Speaker 2: With line down.
- 11:03Speaker 8: It's a day dream.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yes, yes, I'm on J's team.
- 11:09Speaker 5: All right. Well, I'm the one who always gets stuck
- 11:10Speaker 5: at the bottle of trying to make these tough choices.
- 11:12Speaker 5: So if anyone would like to slide into our DMS
- 11:14Speaker 5: with beverage suggestions, test, can we.
- 11:17Speaker 8: Get the Mississippi mudslide next week?
- 11:20Speaker 2: We are not doing that.
- 11:23Speaker 5: I mean, look, if you don't give me an option
- 11:25Speaker 5: when I asked one next week, I'm coming back at
- 11:27Speaker 5: the Mississippi.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I was just wondering, is there a reason you went
- 11:30Speaker 2: to get drinks on your own at Dan Murphy's today.
- 11:34Speaker 5: I didn't go to I didn't go see will Oh No,
- 11:37Speaker 5: I'm sorry to tell you. I went to the one
- 11:39Speaker 5: in the city because driving in Richmond terrifies me.
- 11:42Speaker 2: All right, sorry Will. Anyway, we're going to get into
- 11:45Speaker 2: our personal money wins and confessions. Georgia, what have you
- 11:48Speaker 2: got for us?
- 11:49Speaker 4: So just before I came here, I was in Carlton
- 11:53Speaker 4: having a coffee with Harps.
- 11:54Speaker 5: I always go on and on in this do you have.
- 11:56Speaker 2: A real job or do you just tell us you've
- 11:58Speaker 2: got a real job so you don't have out with day?
- 12:01Speaker 4: It's a UNI and a scripting day.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Anyway, it was having a brew and there was no
- 12:06Speaker 4: line at Peter Pipo. There was no line because it
- 12:12Speaker 4: was in the daytime. So I was like, this is
- 12:14Speaker 4: my time two pounds? So I did spent twenty five
- 12:17Speaker 4: dollars on a liter.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Of ice cream. Guys is a very bougie ice cream
- 12:23Speaker 2: place based here in Melbourne.
- 12:26Speaker 5: There's always a cue. I thought you were going to
- 12:28Speaker 5: say a liter of coffee and I.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Was fun, spend how much money?
- 12:35Speaker 4: So yeah, would we say that's a money win or
- 12:37Speaker 4: a money confession?
- 12:38Speaker 2: I would say it's win okay, thinks yeah, I would
- 12:40Speaker 2: say ice cream always win.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Self love as well. Bougie ice cream.
- 12:44Speaker 7: You got to put you Is it better than the
- 12:47Speaker 7: what's the one that's always gonna line?
- 12:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like there's always there's always a half
- 12:52Speaker 4: an hour line for Peter de Pepo Peter people.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I love Gelato Messina.
- 12:57Speaker 6: I don't make me choose, Jess, what have you got?
- 13:03Speaker 5: Mine is actually my partner's money. That is, it's a
- 13:09Speaker 5: good one.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I don't care if it's a good one.
- 13:10Speaker 5: It's not yours, you know, but it's a good reminder.
- 13:13Speaker 5: So he I was there, I was present for the money.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 13:16Speaker 5: So he had his car service yesterday and I went,
- 13:20Speaker 5: I took him. He had it done, and they quoted
- 13:21Speaker 5: him up. It was meant to be just like a
- 13:22Speaker 5: normal service, and they're like, hey, like, here's ten thousand
- 13:25Speaker 5: things that are wrong with your car. Yeah, And we
- 13:28Speaker 5: kind of knew they were being a bit dodged because
- 13:29Speaker 5: they're like your front wheels like really really worn, and
- 13:32Speaker 5: he was like, I just got a full set put
- 13:34Speaker 5: on last month, like seems unlikely. So we were already
- 13:38Speaker 5: a bit like sus And then they were like, oh,
- 13:41Speaker 5: we need to replace something. Turns out they didn't check
- 13:44Speaker 5: that they had the parts. They pulled the car apart
- 13:46Speaker 5: then called us like, hey, we don't have the part
- 13:48Speaker 5: like can you come back? It was our whole thing.
- 13:50Speaker 5: But anyway, when I was driving him back to pick
- 13:52Speaker 5: up his car, I was like, make sure you check
- 13:54Speaker 5: your receipt for labor, because you're not going to pay
- 13:57Speaker 5: for labor for something that didn't get done. So he
- 14:00Speaker 5: listened to his smart girlfriend smart boy, and he went
- 14:04Speaker 5: in and asked to see the receipt, got a little
- 14:06Speaker 5: bit careen, and they're like, oh, we can't show you the
- 14:07Speaker 5: receipt until you pay and we print it. And he
- 14:09Speaker 5: was like, can you show me the screen?
- 14:11Speaker 2: What am I paying for? Yeah?
- 14:12Speaker 5: It's so dodgy, right, And so they showed him the
- 14:15Speaker 5: screen and sure enough, there was a labor charge on there,
- 14:17Speaker 5: and he was like, I'm not paying for that, and
- 14:19Speaker 5: a little bit of back and forth and he saved
- 14:21Speaker 5: himself one hundred and fifty dollars.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Oh guy, yeah, good good on your Jane.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Very proud, very proud.
- 14:26Speaker 7: It's so weird because it's like a stereotype that mechanics
- 14:30Speaker 7: are dodgy and they're just really not helping themselves, are
- 14:32Speaker 7: they No?
- 14:32Speaker 5: And it's weird because it was a it's like a
- 14:34Speaker 5: big chain. It wasn't like a local mechanic. It's a
- 14:36Speaker 5: big chain that you kind of assume that they would
- 14:39Speaker 5: be kind of on top of it.
- 14:40Speaker 8: That's really shit.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm really disappointed in that because it's twenty twenty one.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Come on, yeah, like, let's stop taking advantage people, please.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I remember I went into a car dealership once and
- 14:50Speaker 2: the car repairman told me that it was a timing
- 14:52Speaker 2: belt issue and I was like, oh, I've never even
- 14:54Speaker 2: heard of what a timing belt is, but okay, no problems,
- 14:57Speaker 2: and me, being typical me, I pick up the phone
- 14:59Speaker 2: and called my dad, and my dad i'd kind of
- 15:00Speaker 2: laughed and was like what, your car doesn't even have time?
- 15:04Speaker 2: And I was like oh, and He's like, let me
- 15:07Speaker 2: call them, and so did it all out. But I
- 15:08Speaker 2: was a bit like, oh, like I would have paid
- 15:11Speaker 2: for that.
- 15:11Speaker 5: I have no idea James's dad does all that stuff
- 15:14Speaker 5: for me. Like when I bought my car, he came
- 15:16Speaker 5: and looked at it. Because I thought, being a woman
- 15:18Speaker 5: like one, I personally am not uneducated. Not that women
- 15:21Speaker 5: in general, no, but also I feel like women are
- 15:24Speaker 5: just more often than not taken advantage of in those situations.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And that's so terrible that we have to feel like
- 15:29Speaker 2: we need backup to.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Bring a grown man as a twenty six year old
- 15:33Speaker 5: woman to buy a car.
- 15:34Speaker 2: It was a bit much, but well, I don't think
- 15:36Speaker 2: it's a bad thing. And I think that distilling the
- 15:38Speaker 2: idea that you need back up when making a big
- 15:40Speaker 2: purchase is not a bad thing. I just think it's
- 15:42Speaker 2: really frustrating that we feel like we're potentially going to
- 15:45Speaker 2: be taken advantage of, because that's really unfair.
- 15:48Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Absolutely, But I would still take my dad regardless of
- 15:51Speaker 2: whether I was a strong independent woman. I call my
- 15:53Speaker 2: dad about everything. I'm like, hey, my spreadsheet's not working,
- 15:57Speaker 2: thank dad. Yeah yeah, yeah, all right, what have you got?
- 16:01Speaker 6: So before COVID kind of took off, my boyfriend and
- 16:05Speaker 6: I had some flights booked and we kind of thought
- 16:08Speaker 6: we just like lost the money. We weren't really sure
- 16:10Speaker 6: what was going to happen with it. And a really
- 16:12Speaker 6: good friend of mine her engagement parties in a couple
- 16:15Speaker 6: of weeks.
- 16:15Speaker 1: In New Zealand.
- 16:16Speaker 6: Now that the travel bubble is open, where else we're
- 16:18Speaker 6: able to go, which is really exciting. And I kind
- 16:21Speaker 6: of hit them up and I was like, hey, I'm
- 16:23Speaker 6: kind of kissed this money goodbye and they're like, oh no,
- 16:26Speaker 6: it's fine. So we ended up being able to pay
- 16:28Speaker 6: for all of our flights with credit from what we
- 16:31Speaker 6: had that's already paid for them.
- 16:33Speaker 7: Very feel like a free trip because you kind of
- 16:35Speaker 7: mentally accepted the money was gone.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 6: It's like when you have cash out and then you
- 16:39Speaker 6: buy something with cash and it feels free because you're like,
- 16:41Speaker 6: the money's already mine.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Does anybody else do that?
- 16:45Speaker 2: It's like when you find ten bucks in your draw
- 16:48Speaker 2: or something or in the car and you're like, oh,
- 16:49Speaker 2: that's free money. Now it wasn't free.
- 16:51Speaker 1: It's my money.
- 16:53Speaker 6: But like this cheeseburger tastes way better knowing that I
- 16:55Speaker 6: haven't really paid for.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Exactly. Do you know what else has? It's been really
- 17:00Speaker 2: good this week, guys Tony on Thursday? Where were you?
- 17:04Speaker 5: Oh?
- 17:05Speaker 1: I was on the radio day Yeah.
- 17:06Speaker 2: What were you talking about on the radio?
- 17:09Speaker 6: So I've since moving to Melbourne, I've started doing a
- 17:12Speaker 6: little bit of work with not for profit called Motherless
- 17:14Speaker 6: Daughters Australia and they basically have created this huge support
- 17:19Speaker 6: network for girls in Australia that no longer have their mums,
- 17:23Speaker 6: which is a boat that I also find myself in
- 17:26Speaker 6: my mom passed away.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Eight years ago, and yeah, it's really cool.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Like the girl who founded it a few years ago,
- 17:33Speaker 6: she's only thirty, so it's really like young vibes and
- 17:36Speaker 6: it's just really cool that there's like support for girls
- 17:39Speaker 6: that don't have their mums anymore.
- 17:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Absolutely, And it's such a topical thing to come up,
- 17:43Speaker 2: especially this week because we obviously have on the weekend
- 17:46Speaker 2: Mother's Day, which can be seen as like a really
- 17:49Speaker 2: great celebration to celebrate our mums, but I think it's
- 17:52Speaker 2: really important to remember as well that could be a
- 17:54Speaker 2: day of grieving and it's not always as happy for everybody,
- 17:58Speaker 2: especially in the time of social media where it's kind
- 18:00Speaker 2: of you know, you and I were talking about this earlier,
- 18:02Speaker 2: shoved down your throat that oh, did you get flowers
- 18:05Speaker 2: my mum? Don't forget a present for mum, and it's
- 18:07Speaker 2: kind of like, yeah, well, you know what, I would
- 18:08Speaker 2: buy mum a present if I could, mate. Yeah, like
- 18:11Speaker 2: that really sucks. So I think it's really cool that
- 18:13Speaker 2: you're drawing awareness to that. But tell us a little
- 18:15Speaker 2: bit about the campaign, because we are dabbling in that
- 18:18Speaker 2: this week and trying to get the word out there,
- 18:20Speaker 2: What can our listeners do to support that because it
- 18:23Speaker 2: is such a worthy cause.
- 18:25Speaker 6: So this week they've created a Mother Loss Awareness Week,
- 18:28Speaker 6: which runs from the second to the eighth of May.
- 18:31Speaker 6: So it's not just for girls that have lost their mums,
- 18:33Speaker 6: it's for anybody that's lost their mom or their mother
- 18:36Speaker 6: figure or however you identify with it. And this year
- 18:40Speaker 6: they've started a hashtag called hashtag draw Her Wings and
- 18:45Speaker 6: there's a little there's a little infographic that we've posted
- 18:48Speaker 6: on our socials and it shows you how you can
- 18:50Speaker 6: take part and then you can tag a couple of
- 18:52Speaker 6: friends and hopefully spread it across social media and get
- 18:55Speaker 6: a bit of traction around our Motherless Daughters Australia. And
- 18:58Speaker 6: there's also like a donate page on their website. So
- 19:03Speaker 6: it's really really cool that it's like such an easy
- 19:05Speaker 6: way to support your friends who maybe you don't know it,
- 19:08Speaker 6: are struggling or things like that. So it's just it's
- 19:11Speaker 6: a really nice way of being like a beacon of
- 19:13Speaker 6: support across socials for people that might not even know
- 19:16Speaker 6: you that can take some solace in that, which is
- 19:19Speaker 6: really nice.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And I think that that's really important, especially for the
- 19:21Speaker 2: she's on the money community because so many stories get
- 19:24Speaker 2: shared with us, and so many special stories get shared
- 19:26Speaker 2: with us, especially about people in our community losing parents,
- 19:30Speaker 2: and I think that just to talk about that, especially
- 19:32Speaker 2: in light of Mother's Day, it can be really hard.
- 19:35Speaker 2: And the idea isn't to say that Mother's Day is bad.
- 19:38Speaker 2: It's just to say, hey, like, this might not be
- 19:40Speaker 2: something you've thought about before.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Absolutely, you know that's really important to me as much
- 19:44Speaker 2: as I can't relate to having lost my mother, which
- 19:46Speaker 2: is such a special thing to still be able to say,
- 19:50Speaker 2: but I think it's really cool to be able to
- 19:52Speaker 2: raise awareness to that because it is so special to
- 19:54Speaker 2: so many. But thank you for that.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Oh I thank you guys for listening to me.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I'm going to get back on track though, because you
- 20:00Speaker 2: haven't heard Ryan John's money.
- 20:02Speaker 1: You better be good follow that.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I was about to follow that.
- 20:06Speaker 7: Such a beautiful story and I was thinking about that,
- 20:09Speaker 7: and now my money wind just seems so insignificant. So
- 20:14Speaker 7: over the last month or so, Bridge and I have
- 20:17Speaker 7: moved full time into Melbourne.
- 20:19Speaker 8: We were a bit half.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Feel their memories.
- 20:24Speaker 7: So we used to drive to Melbourne and out to
- 20:27Speaker 7: the Grampians and back, and I used to go a
- 20:29Speaker 7: few times a week and Bridge used to drive heaps
- 20:30Speaker 7: to work. I went and filled up my car on
- 20:32Speaker 7: the weekend and realized it was the first time I'd
- 20:34Speaker 7: filled up my car in four weeks.
- 20:37Speaker 2: That is a money win.
- 20:40Speaker 7: Bridge would have been one or two tanks a week.
- 20:42Speaker 7: I was one and a half tanks a week, and
- 20:44Speaker 7: now together we're one tank a month.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Money and environmental win.
- 20:49Speaker 8: Absolutely.
- 20:50Speaker 7: So it wasn't until I went to fill up that
- 20:52Speaker 7: I like the light went on and I was like,
- 20:54Speaker 7: I forgot you'd feel these things. So that was a
- 20:58Speaker 7: huge win. And obviously over time that will kind of
- 21:00Speaker 7: add up as well. So for that, Victoria Devine, are
- 21:03Speaker 7: you going to win or a lost?
- 21:04Speaker 2: I've got a loss slash win.
- 21:06Speaker 8: Oh wait to finish the show.
- 21:10Speaker 2: And it's definitely nothing to follow Tony so again, but
- 21:13Speaker 2: yours is like a genuine money win. I've got a dress.
- 21:15Speaker 2: That's my money win slash confession. It was like three
- 21:18Speaker 2: hundred and fifty dollars down to ninety nine.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I can't tell you more about that than fuel.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah, same, I thought you might. I thought you might,
- 21:26Speaker 2: but also like it was an impulse buy, so is
- 21:29Speaker 2: that a win? Or is that a loss because I
- 21:31Speaker 2: spent ninety nine dollars that I didn't need to spend
- 21:34Speaker 2: on a dress I didn't even know I needed until
- 21:36Speaker 2: I saw it.
- 21:37Speaker 6: Is it an impulse buy? Or have you impulsively saved money?
- 21:41Speaker 3: Jokes on you?
- 21:42Speaker 2: It aligned to my values?
- 21:45Speaker 5: All right?
- 21:46Speaker 2: With that, I think we're going to wrap it. We
- 21:48Speaker 2: would like to acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal
- 21:52Speaker 2: and Torro Straight Islander people's, the traditional custodians of the lands,
- 21:56Speaker 2: the waterways and the skies all across Australia. We'd like
- 21:59Speaker 2: to thank you. Thank you for sharing and for caring
- 22:01Speaker 2: for the land on which we are able to learn.
- 22:03Speaker 2: We power respects to elders past and present, and we
- 22:06Speaker 2: share our friendship and our kindness.
- 22:08Speaker 4: The advice shared on She's on the Money is general
- 22:10Speaker 4: in nature and does not consider your individual circumstances. Never
- 22:14Speaker 4: She's on the Money exists purely for educational purposes and

- 22:19Speaker 4: a financial decision, And we promise Victoria Divine is an

- 22:35Speaker 4: everyone for putting this show.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I love that for us.
