- 0:00Doing Marriage Well for August 10th, 2026 Is your marriage missing one of these vital connections?
- 0:06Sometimes when I look at a marriage, I see a man who is either emotionally unavailable
- 0:10or not as emotionally available as his wife needs him to be.
- 0:14I also sometimes see a woman who is either sexually unavailable or not as sexually
- 0:18available as her husband needs her to be.
- 0:20And yes, both happen when the sex is reversed.
- 0:23I'd like to suggest that these two things are very similar in many ways.
- 0:28Among other things, that means if you have ever been hurt by one of these,
- 0:31you can understand how your spouse feels if you are doing the other to them.
- 0:35I realize it's a scary concept. Because if you accept it, then you either have
- 0:40to deal with the ramifications of that, or accept you are failing your spouse.
- 0:44This could cause you to reject the premise out of hand. Please try to engage
- 0:48the idea and give it a fair hearing in your heart.
- 0:51Let me start by stating that both sexual and emotional connection are necessary for a good marriage.
- 0:56This is how God made marriage, and you cannot have the kind of marriage God
- 0:59intended if either of them is absent or significantly limited.
- 1:03If your spouse is limiting one of these things, it hurts. It feels like they
- 1:07don't care about you, and after a while, their reasons or excuses stop mattering.
- 1:12They have something you need from them, and they are not giving it in sufficient
- 1:15quantity or quality for you to feel loved and connected.
- 1:19Can you accept my premise that these two things are very similar and not having
- 1:22enough of either is a significant marriage problem?
- 1:25If your spouse is limiting one of these, ask yourself if you limit the other.
- 1:29Can you accept that doing that
- 1:30may hurt them every bit as much as their limiting the other hurts you?
- 1:34Believing all this could be the start of a profound change in your marriage.
- 1:38Pray about it. This is Paul, and Empathy Helps Us Do Marriage Well.
