- 0:00Speaker 1: Just before we get started, we'd like to acknowledge and
- 0:03Speaker 1: pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal and torrest Rate islander peoples.
- 0:07Speaker 1: They're the traditional custodians of the lands, the waterways and
- 0:10Speaker 1: the skies all across Australia. We thank you for sharing
- 0:13Speaker 1: and for caring for the land on which we are
- 0:16Speaker 1: able to learn. We pay respects to elders past and present,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and we share our friendship and our kindness.
- 0:22Speaker 2: She's on the Money.
- 0:24Speaker 3: She's on the Money, Hello, and welcome to She's on
- 0:47Speaker 3: the Money, the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom.
- 0:51Speaker 4: And what a huge week it has been, my friends.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We are still feeling the love and we are absolutely
- 0:57Speaker 1: reeling from our very first She's on the Mony International
- 1:00Speaker 1: Women's Day events, which, as you guys might already know,
- 1:03Speaker 1: we held in both Melbourne and in Sydney and the
- 1:06Speaker 1: whole team was there, which is very, very exciting.
- 1:09Speaker 4: It was something that we have wanted to do for
- 1:11Speaker 4: so so very.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Long, and unfortunately, due to our friend COVID, we haven't
- 1:15Speaker 1: been able to.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Do until now.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And of course, guys, with so much happening in the
- 1:20Speaker 1: world and in Australia right now, we are so genuinely
- 1:23Speaker 1: grateful for everybody who was able to come and spend
- 1:25Speaker 1: some time with us and the team in person. Jess
- 1:28Speaker 1: and Elsa, you guys were both there and for those
- 1:30Speaker 1: of you listening.
- 1:31Speaker 4: You might know Jess, Hi, Jess, hello, but.
- 1:34Speaker 1: You probably haven't met Annalisa before, but if you have,
- 1:37Speaker 1: it was because she came to our She's on the
- 1:39Speaker 1: Money events in both Melbourne and Sydney, Because Annalisa, who
- 1:42Speaker 1: are you?
- 1:42Speaker 4: Oh hello, ladies, I am your brand new producer. Oh
- 1:46Speaker 4: how shiny, how fresh sh you?
- 1:48Speaker 2: Longtime listener, first time voice on She's on the money,
- 1:51Speaker 2: And I'm thrilled to be here and even more surrilled
- 1:53Speaker 2: to be at those incredible events last week. I'm still
- 1:56Speaker 2: kind of rolling around and reeling in how incredible the
- 1:59Speaker 2: community was and how great the vibers.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 2:01Speaker 1: When I say I'm obsessed with the community, you can
- 2:03Speaker 1: see why now, though, can't you.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Absolutely, and we know that.
- 2:07Speaker 5: The community is really spread across the country and even
- 2:10Speaker 5: the world, which is super cool and exciting, but in
- 2:13Speaker 5: person events aren't accessible for every single person. We got
- 2:16Speaker 5: lots of dms from people saying, come to Brisbane, come
- 2:19Speaker 5: to Tasmania. We hope to, We would love to, but
- 2:24Speaker 5: we are a small business and turns out events are
- 2:26Speaker 5: very expensive, so we're working our way up.
- 2:28Speaker 1: To those Oh my gosh, who would have known that
- 2:31Speaker 1: they were as expensive as they are, Like, guys, I
- 2:33Speaker 1: can't even like I did not realize how expensive they were.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So to everyone who purchased a ticket, I am so
- 2:39Speaker 1: eternally grateful that you put your value in coming and
- 2:42Speaker 1: seeing us and hanging out with us, because it meant
- 2:44Speaker 1: a lot. But over time, hopefully, Jess and Elisa, the
- 2:48Speaker 1: plan is to get more sponsors on board so we
- 2:50Speaker 1: can make ticket prices even more affordable and much more accessible.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But as the first off event, I think we did
- 2:56Speaker 1: pretty damn well.
- 2:58Speaker 5: Guys, I agree, And for anyone who couldn't make it,
- 3:01Speaker 5: which we totally understand with so many things going on
- 3:04Speaker 5: right now, we wanted to bring you a little piece
- 3:06Speaker 5: of the event. So today's episode is going to be
- 3:08Speaker 5: a special Friday Drinks where we can't necessarily bring everyone
- 3:12Speaker 5: like our speakers we had Manel al Shreve, Tracy Spicer,
- 3:16Speaker 5: Maria Fattill, and Ashley Strata Jones, and we can't necessarily
- 3:19Speaker 5: bring the goodie bags or the food or are incredible
- 3:22Speaker 5: speakers who did the acknowledgement of country. We had Victoria,
- 3:26Speaker 5: your friend Natasha who is queen acknowledgments, and we also
- 3:29Speaker 5: had Auntie Anne Walden, who were both phenomenal. But what
- 3:32Speaker 5: we can bring you is the community, which is arguably
- 3:37Speaker 5: one of the best bits. Getting to meet you, getting
- 3:39Speaker 5: to talk to you, listen to your stories, watch you
- 3:41Speaker 5: make friendships, and make friends with you ourselves was just
- 3:44Speaker 5: such a privilege. And Lisa was scooting around with her
- 3:48Speaker 5: little microphone getting some voices, getting some stories, and that's
- 3:52Speaker 5: what we're going to be sharing with you today. V
- 3:54Speaker 5: and I have not heard this yet. I'm very excited.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I'm not impressed because I've wanted to all week listen
- 4:01Speaker 1: to this, but I haven't because I've waited till here.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I knew it was on the share drive, so I
- 4:05Speaker 1: just didn't go find it, and I feel like that
- 4:07Speaker 1: took a lot of self restraint. I'm just telling you
- 4:08Speaker 1: right now, and.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I'm still in my defense. So Victoria, you cried enough
- 4:12Speaker 2: on both days, so I really didn't want to.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Crying for the rest of the week.
- 4:17Speaker 2: That the community is so important to the show, and
- 4:19Speaker 2: with everything that everyone's been through. How wonderful to get
- 4:23Speaker 2: some voices on this show who are so dedicated and
- 4:26Speaker 2: who the program means.
- 4:27Speaker 6: So much to you.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So let's have a listen.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Are we ready? I'm not ready. I'm not already. I'm
- 4:33Speaker 4: already thinking about it. All right, let's go, let's go,
- 4:35Speaker 4: let's play it.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, I'm so excited. I'm so nervous. I
- 4:40Speaker 5: think like I just I so desperately want everyone to
- 4:43Speaker 5: have the best time. I'm just thinking, oh, is everyone happy?
- 4:46Speaker 5: Do they have what they need? Can they find their seats?
- 4:48Speaker 5: But at the same time, I'm so excited.
- 4:50Speaker 4: How you going be good? I'm good.
- 4:53Speaker 7: I'm so love It.
- 4:56Speaker 8: Had been International Homesday. I'm really excited to be here,
- 4:59Speaker 8: so so exciting, feeling thrilled to be here, so exciting.
- 5:04Speaker 9: It's feminist Christmas.
- 5:09Speaker 8: I am here for the amazing ladies around here, to
- 5:12Speaker 8: be inspired by ladies, but also because of the lovely Victoria,
- 5:17Speaker 8: who's an absolute rock star.
- 5:18Speaker 4: So I'm excited.
- 5:20Speaker 7: It's just so nice to be around so many like
- 5:22Speaker 7: minded women.
- 5:23Speaker 2: It's just really empowering, and especially we are surrounded by
- 5:26Speaker 2: so many incredible way women and men and just everyone
- 5:29Speaker 2: in general is just amazing.
- 5:30Speaker 8: Lots of fune office or empowered and refreshed, and I'll
- 5:33Speaker 8: be stepping out here feeling more confident and ready to
- 5:37Speaker 8: achieve more big things.
- 5:38Speaker 6: Well, it's very exciting. I was actually very surprised when
- 5:41Speaker 6: we walked out on the deck here to see so
- 5:42Speaker 6: many people this time in the morning, looking very smart
- 5:46Speaker 6: and very energized. I work in the financial planning industry myself,
- 5:51Speaker 6: and I think traditionally, far too many women have for
- 5:56Speaker 6: allied on men to take care of the finances, and
- 6:00Speaker 6: I think it's the single most important thing a woman
- 6:03Speaker 6: can do to empower herself.
- 6:06Speaker 9: My name is Natasha Nabananga Bamblet, and I'm known as
- 6:10Speaker 9: Queen Acknowledgments today felt like a world class presentation from
- 6:18Speaker 9: real life experience, from women who have walked in the
- 6:22Speaker 9: footsteps of those that are living in breaking the bias,
- 6:26Speaker 9: and to have them speak from their heart and their
- 6:30Speaker 9: own experience. That's what leadership is. It's leadership by living
- 6:35Speaker 9: that life. And it really spoke to me my heart,
- 6:39Speaker 9: and I felt the room of women moved with me.
- 6:43Speaker 9: I acknowledge the country and hearing and seeing it. It's
- 6:47Speaker 9: about feeling it, embracing it, embodying it, and for me,
- 6:52Speaker 9: the invitation to have somebody to feel what acknowledging the
- 6:57Speaker 9: country is like, it's a gift. It's a gift that
- 7:01Speaker 9: I get to share as a First Nations woman on
- 7:03Speaker 9: this land, in this country, knowing that I've come from
- 7:06Speaker 9: women and their sacrifices of my ancestors and line of
- 7:10Speaker 9: women before me. You know, my grandmother was a part
- 7:13Speaker 9: of the Solen generation and she did anything she could
- 7:17Speaker 9: to survive than my parents were, you know, striving for
- 7:21Speaker 9: the next best thing, better future for their children. And
- 7:26Speaker 9: I get to live in a world that I now
- 7:27Speaker 9: get to thrive because of how people are continuing to
- 7:32Speaker 9: acknowledge and share and embrace the culture here and the
- 7:37Speaker 9: country and what it gives, what it offers us.
- 7:41Speaker 10: I'm here rewarding myself because I just finished paying a
- 7:45Speaker 10: seven year debt agreement. I finished it two years early
- 7:49Speaker 10: by starting to listen to the podcast and I started
- 7:52Speaker 10: doing Ubert's deliveries during lockdowns, and yeah, Victoria's just totally
- 7:58Speaker 10: changed the way I think of money. And now I
- 8:01Speaker 10: am debt free and I just made Victoria divine and cry,
- 8:07Speaker 10: which is beautiful we all came here by ourselves and
- 8:11Speaker 10: we just started chatting.
- 8:12Speaker 11: We actually just met today and we've just been like
- 8:15Speaker 11: sharing stories and love like how we found the podcast
- 8:17Speaker 11: and like our live stories and stuff.
- 8:19Speaker 4: I love listening to it.
- 8:20Speaker 12: It's probably their only podcast that I listened to religiously.
- 8:24Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, she got me into the podcast as well.
- 8:26Speaker 5: Seeing Victorian real life is already pretty crazy.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Little fang girling a little just hearing us week and yeah,
- 8:34Speaker 4: everything she says is like so good and so empowering.
- 8:38Speaker 6: I think that it just.
- 8:38Speaker 9: Opens up a lot of us who may not particularly
- 8:42Speaker 9: know some of these topics and just educates us in
- 8:44Speaker 9: a nice and simple way.
- 8:47Speaker 7: Just listening to the podcast each week and hearing stories,
- 8:51Speaker 7: but then the deep dive on things and being able
- 8:53Speaker 7: to understand so much more and be financially literate.
- 8:57Speaker 12: Two years ago, I know, I had a lot of
- 9:00Speaker 12: bad debt, and I know the difference now between bad
- 9:02Speaker 12: debt and good debt, and it was really overwhelming and
- 9:04Speaker 12: it was kind of like like how do I get
- 9:06Speaker 12: myself out of this?
- 9:07Speaker 1: You know?
- 9:07Speaker 12: And little by little there were little things that they
- 9:10Speaker 12: gave me, like you know, automating savings and you know,
- 9:14Speaker 12: money month set and all of that kind of stuff.
- 9:16Speaker 12: You don't know what you're going to use until you
- 9:18Speaker 12: take all the knowledge in. So yeah, it's really helped
- 9:21Speaker 12: me a lot.
- 9:22Speaker 11: I really love the Money Diaries. With the friendship group
- 9:24Speaker 11: that I have, Like, there's very few conversations around finance
- 9:27Speaker 11: and pay and whatnot, so I think just being able
- 9:30Speaker 11: to like listen to people's experiences, it feels like I
- 9:32Speaker 11: can have those conversations with friends and have that kind
- 9:35Speaker 11: of community. Being able to hear conversations of those different
- 9:38Speaker 11: experiences has just been really enlightening. And being able to
- 9:41Speaker 11: like expand by world.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Has been really nice.
- 9:43Speaker 7: It's really nice to just have that diversity of stories
- 9:45Speaker 7: that you hear on the podcast and it yeah, it
- 9:47Speaker 7: just kind of helps you not feel alone and it
- 9:50Speaker 7: helps you feel supported, and yeah, it's awesome.
- 9:53Speaker 1: You just learn different ways of doing things. I have
- 9:56Speaker 1: more confidence around issues like bringing up finances with your
- 9:59Speaker 1: part and your family.
- 10:01Speaker 4: The tone of the show really spoke to me.
- 10:04Speaker 7: There's a lot of money podcasts out there that are
- 10:07Speaker 7: a bit more white men in suits. I think for me,
- 10:11Speaker 7: my money story was a little bit complicated. So it's
- 10:13Speaker 7: given me a lot of financial guidance and a lot
- 10:15Speaker 7: of the help that I've needed to kind of get
- 10:17Speaker 7: my budget on track and become more savvy when it
- 10:20Speaker 7: comes to money. I've started investing, which is really exciting.
- 10:23Speaker 7: It's just kind of changed my life in a really
- 10:26Speaker 7: corny sounding way.
- 10:28Speaker 13: Victoria makes these really kind of complicated or kind of scary,
- 10:34Speaker 13: and I'm doing that in inverted commerce concepts way more
- 10:38Speaker 13: accessible for women. And she doesn't obviously like talk down
- 10:42Speaker 13: to anyone. It's all on our level.
- 10:45Speaker 2: That kind of thing.
- 10:47Speaker 8: I think there's just an authenticity there.
- 10:49Speaker 4: I feel it's very.
- 10:49Speaker 8: Inapproachable kind of community. You know, there's a lot of
- 10:53Speaker 8: communities out there, but there's just this feeling and I
- 10:56Speaker 8: think a lot of that has to do with the
- 10:57Speaker 8: people behind it, whether it's Victoria or her team. They
- 11:01Speaker 8: just exue this energy which is just so warm and
- 11:04Speaker 8: in fighting, and for me, that's just who Victoria is.
- 11:08Speaker 8: I love you, guys, I love your Victoria girl.
- 11:13Speaker 4: She's on the money, on the money. She's on the money.
- 11:16Speaker 4: She's on the money.
- 11:17Speaker 8: She's on the money.
- 11:18Speaker 13: She's on the money.
- 11:19Speaker 8: She's on the money.
- 11:20Speaker 4: She's on the money. She's on the money.
- 11:21Speaker 8: She's on the money.
- 11:30Speaker 4: What good is that I can't all right, alright, al right.
- 11:35Speaker 5: It's so fungy if people say those things, because I
- 11:38Speaker 5: think one of the harder aspects of these events is
- 11:42Speaker 5: we're so blessed to have hundreds of incredible people there,
- 11:46Speaker 5: but it makes you really conscious of time, and it's
- 11:49Speaker 5: so hard because you just want to sit down and
- 11:51Speaker 5: spend an hour talking to every single person. But we
- 11:54Speaker 5: just didn't have that luxury, or we would have been
- 11:57Speaker 5: kicked out of the hotel and never let back in.
- 11:59Speaker 5: So being able to hear people talk a little bit
- 12:01Speaker 5: more about their why and their how, and it also
- 12:03Speaker 5: can feel very self absorbed, like I wouldn't know how
- 12:06Speaker 5: to turn around to someone and say, so, how have
- 12:09Speaker 5: we changed your life? Or how have we impacted like that?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Just that sounds so strange someone, Like even hearing people
- 12:16Speaker 1: talk about it, it's just overwhelming. Like I feel like
- 12:20Speaker 1: it's not often that Victoria Devine doesn't have words, but
- 12:23Speaker 1: now it is one of those times.
- 12:25Speaker 5: One thousand percent, and it's just so touching. I think,
- 12:29Speaker 5: to hear people say those kind things about you and
- 12:33Speaker 5: about me and about the podcast, it just you get
- 12:36Speaker 5: bogged down in the bad and to hear people say
- 12:38Speaker 5: I've pulled through this, I've worked really hard, and you
- 12:41Speaker 5: were able to be a part of that. Like, how
- 12:43Speaker 5: many jobs in the world are there where you can
- 12:46Speaker 5: genuinely say that you had that kind of impact on people.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Not that many, I would guess.
- 12:52Speaker 4: No, and not that many that are that vocal.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Like, I feel like it's incredibly special to be in
- 12:58Speaker 1: this position where we've done that. But I guess the
- 13:01Speaker 1: thing that I think about is when I was thinking
- 13:04Speaker 1: of starting this podcast, I was so close to not
- 13:07Speaker 1: doing it because I was so afraid of what people
- 13:09Speaker 1: might think or say, or you know, they might not
- 13:12Speaker 1: think it was a good piece of content. And I
- 13:14Speaker 1: am just like everybody else, Like I am a real
- 13:17Speaker 1: person who has real feelings and you know, just wants
- 13:20Speaker 1: to do the best that they can. So it's very
- 13:22Speaker 1: challenging when you're like, do I put myself out there
- 13:25Speaker 1: and do this or not.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Like podcasting was.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Arguably very new in Australia when I had started.
- 13:30Speaker 4: It's not like I broke into the industry.
- 13:32Speaker 1: It definitely existed, but it definitely didn't need exist in
- 13:35Speaker 1: the commercial way that it does today. So when I
- 13:38Speaker 1: started it, it was very much let's do this little podcast
- 13:41Speaker 1: because the Facebook group I have, which at the time
- 13:44Speaker 1: it's still burnt into my mind, had seventeen hundred people
- 13:47Speaker 1: in it, and I thought that I could have a
- 13:49Speaker 1: small impact on them, like that's what the podcast started for.
- 13:53Speaker 1: And now two.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Hundred thousand people. I can't talk about it.
- 13:59Speaker 1: It's crazy, Like it's ah, it's crazy. It's actually crazy
- 14:06Speaker 1: to think that from doing a Facebook group where if
- 14:11Speaker 1: you're one of my family or friends, you would know
- 14:13Speaker 1: that I used to pester you to comment on the
- 14:15Speaker 1: posts because no one would communicate with me. And I
- 14:19Speaker 1: just really wanted it to look like people were communicating
- 14:23Speaker 1: and being open because in my mind, that was going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to be the start of other people communicating and being open.
- 14:30Speaker 4: A hahah, why you doiced to me?
- 14:33Speaker 1: Because to me, that was kind of like the start
- 14:35Speaker 1: of other people being open to being able to communicate, right,
- 14:39Speaker 1: Like I saw other people commenting, even if it was
- 14:42Speaker 1: my friends or my family, and you guys didn't know
- 14:45Speaker 1: that that that might have given you permission to share
- 14:48Speaker 1: your story and known that it was a safe place,
- 14:51Speaker 1: which it absolutely was and always has been. But for me,
- 14:54Speaker 1: it didn't just start and you know, become this big thing.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It became this thing that I had to put so
- 14:59Speaker 1: much time, energy and effort into and so many days
- 15:02Speaker 1: I'd be like, is this worth it to finally have
- 15:05Speaker 1: people turn around and say that their entire lives a changed,
- 15:08Speaker 1: Like what.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Maybe I'll just give you guys a little bit of
- 15:12Speaker 2: space to feel the feelings too. And I just want
- 15:14Speaker 2: to say, as someone who was there on the day
- 15:16Speaker 2: and talking to these incredible women and people. I mean,
- 15:19Speaker 2: the speakers are incredible, the food was incredible, the goodie
- 15:22Speaker 2: bags are incredible. But I loved seeing people meeting each
- 15:25Speaker 2: other for the first time. They came to the event
- 15:27Speaker 2: on their own, and they forged some friendships and they
- 15:29Speaker 2: literally there were so many people that I went up
- 15:31Speaker 2: to who'd never spoken before, and I could hear them
- 15:34Speaker 2: sharing stories about different tips that they got off the show,
- 15:37Speaker 2: or figuring out their money stories, or feeling okay about
- 15:41Speaker 2: broaching certain topics with partners or friends, or even starting
- 15:44Speaker 2: a trend in their friendship groups to talk about this stuff.
- 15:47Speaker 2: And that was so exciting.
- 15:49Speaker 4: So that was one of my favorite things.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Like, honestly, this sounds so wanky, but like Jess and
- 15:54Speaker 1: I at the Sydney event were up the front and
- 15:57Speaker 1: people were just coming up to us and were having
- 15:59Speaker 1: chats with them, and like groups of girls would come
- 16:02Speaker 1: up and Jess and I'd be like, oh my gosh, hi,
- 16:04Speaker 1: where have you guys come from?
- 16:06Speaker 4: And they're like, oh, we.
- 16:07Speaker 1: All came from different places. We'd be like, oh, did
- 16:09Speaker 1: you like catch the train together, and they're like, no,
- 16:11Speaker 1: we met today. And it was crazy to think that
- 16:14Speaker 1: we just made this grand assumption that you know, if
- 16:16Speaker 1: a group of three girls came up to us, they
- 16:18Speaker 1: were actually already friends, when in reality that actually all
- 16:21Speaker 1: come alone and found each other. And I, as somebody
- 16:25Speaker 1: who loves a good networking event, I've never been to
- 16:28Speaker 1: a networking event and made a friend and been like, oh,
- 16:30Speaker 1: hey and a Lisa, I would love to, you know,
- 16:33Speaker 1: hang out with you. Let's go see the speaker that
- 16:35Speaker 1: we want to talk to. Like that's not a thing.
- 16:37Speaker 4: So for me to see.
- 16:39Speaker 1: These people coming together and making friends and connecting and
- 16:42Speaker 1: you know, swapping numbers, and then later seeing them post
- 16:45Speaker 1: on social media that they'd either.
- 16:47Speaker 4: Gone out for a coffee after or they'd added.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Each other on social media or tagging each other, I
- 16:51Speaker 1: was like, what, Like, you guys all little pals now,
- 16:55Speaker 1: like it just made my heart so full knowing that
- 16:57Speaker 1: we all have these shared values, and I think having
- 17:00Speaker 1: so many people in one room with so many shared
- 17:03Speaker 1: values meant it was very easy to make friends and
- 17:06Speaker 1: just such a cool thing because Jess and I were
- 17:08Speaker 1: talking before the event and Roche, who is our events
- 17:13Speaker 1: coordinator and the person who you know, made all of
- 17:15Speaker 1: this come to life for us and as an absolute legend,
- 17:18Speaker 1: she actually was talking to us about like do we
- 17:20Speaker 1: do little singles tags or something so that if someone
- 17:23Speaker 1: is there on their own, other people know to embrace them,
- 17:27Speaker 1: Like we didn't even need that, they were just doing
- 17:29Speaker 1: it themselves. And you know, there are a couple of
- 17:31Speaker 1: times where I even saw I think I scared a
- 17:33Speaker 1: couple of people and I didn't mean to, but I
- 17:35Speaker 1: saw people standing on their own and I'd be like,
- 17:37Speaker 1: oh my god, did you come on your own? And
- 17:38Speaker 1: they're like what, why are you here? And I'd be like,
- 17:41Speaker 1: because that going to be a friend, Like I'm here
- 17:43Speaker 1: to know you. Like I genuinely felt like I was
- 17:46Speaker 1: in a room full of people who were my friends
- 17:48Speaker 1: that I just hadn't met yet, Like they were people
- 17:51Speaker 1: that were my people, even if I didn't know your
- 17:54Speaker 1: name yet, because I felt like you knew me in
- 17:56Speaker 1: a way, and that's it's a very strange feeling.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I'm telling you that right now.
- 18:00Speaker 2: The tape of both of you at the start, I
- 18:02Speaker 2: think is gorgeous. But yes, you were like very much
- 18:05Speaker 2: hovering around like a little hummingbird, like trying to make
- 18:07Speaker 2: sure everything was running smoothly, and you sound really nervous
- 18:10Speaker 2: about wanting to make sure everyone has the best time.
- 18:13Speaker 2: How was it for you?
- 18:14Speaker 5: It was really like I had so much fun, but
- 18:16Speaker 5: I did. I felt so much not anxiety, but I
- 18:19Speaker 5: just so desperately wanted everyone to have the best time ever.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I was really conscious that it's a big ask to
- 18:26Speaker 5: have people turn up at the venue at you know,
- 18:29Speaker 5: seven o'clock, So most people are getting up at like
- 18:31Speaker 5: five thirty six o'clock on a cold morning to come
- 18:34Speaker 5: see us, And people just have invested so much to
- 18:39Speaker 5: come and see us, and I think that it might
- 18:41Speaker 5: be easy to forget that we were as excited to
- 18:45Speaker 5: this as everybody else. I don't think I slept for
- 18:47Speaker 5: it like the entire week, because I was just so
- 18:50Speaker 5: nervous and excited and I wanted everyone to be happy
- 18:53Speaker 5: and have it be everything that everyone had hoped for.
- 18:56Speaker 5: And I mean I really felt that. I felt so
- 18:59Speaker 5: much love. I saw so many people connecting and meeting
- 19:03Speaker 5: and having an incredible time. But yeah, I think I
- 19:05Speaker 5: definitely was hovering around a little bit, trying to make
- 19:07Speaker 5: sure that if anyone needed anything. At one point, the
- 19:10Speaker 5: water dispenser run out and I was just standing there
- 19:13Speaker 5: like a waiter directing people spener there was water and
- 19:18Speaker 5: it run out. It was all ice, and I was
- 19:20Speaker 5: just like, oh my god, they can't get their water,
- 19:23Speaker 5: and so standing because like people would come and they'd
- 19:27Speaker 5: just be like, oh, like I have no water.
- 19:29Speaker 8: That's not happy, No, no, no, it's fine.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Just like someone's coming. Nobody panic, losing your mind. You're
- 19:36Speaker 4: like that in the office, I'm not.
- 19:38Speaker 2: This is basically a personality test, and I think this
- 19:41Speaker 2: is the one who's great in a crisis.
- 19:43Speaker 4: I'm like, now was water, like, we have access to water.
- 19:47Speaker 5: And then the people were so nice, and I just
- 19:50Speaker 5: think I wish I had the confidence that these people,
- 19:55Speaker 5: these women had, because I in my earlier years and
- 20:00Speaker 5: even now, I don't know that I could stand in
- 20:02Speaker 5: a room of people I don't know and just be like, hey,
- 20:05Speaker 5: I'm Jess. How's it going. And so many people came
- 20:07Speaker 5: up to me and said, hey, like I know who
- 20:09Speaker 5: you are. I just wanted to say thank you. I
- 20:10Speaker 5: just wanted to talk to you. And I cried, as
- 20:13Speaker 5: you know, Victoria cried a lot. But it made my
- 20:16Speaker 5: day and I truly was just like, oh my god.
- 20:19Speaker 5: These people are the people that are going to create change.
- 20:23Speaker 5: They're the people that are going to change their lives.
- 20:26Speaker 5: They're going to change the lives of other people, They're
- 20:28Speaker 5: going to educate the next generation. Like there's just I
- 20:31Speaker 5: felt a lot of power in that room, and not
- 20:34Speaker 5: because it was people who work in high paying jobs
- 20:38Speaker 5: or people hold positions of you know, political report or whatever.
- 20:42Speaker 5: It was genuinely just these people want to see and
- 20:47Speaker 5: make change, and they have made change, and there is
- 20:51Speaker 5: just so much value in that. And it really took
- 20:55Speaker 5: the breath out of me. I think like we sat
- 20:56Speaker 5: down right before we kicked the event off and did
- 20:59Speaker 5: our acknowledgment, and I just was like, oh, because I
- 21:03Speaker 5: could just feel it, you know, you could feel it
- 21:05Speaker 5: in the air. And I don't know how to describe that,
- 21:07Speaker 5: and I don't think we could ever capture that in audio.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Wall video.
- 21:10Speaker 5: But just this, this sensation that I felt like in
- 21:14Speaker 5: my soul was incredible.
- 21:16Speaker 1: You're literally the sweetest thing I've ever seen in my
- 21:18Speaker 1: entire life.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Just cut Like, oh, it makes my heart so full, Like.
- 21:23Speaker 1: It literally makes my heart so full knowing that we, like,
- 21:27Speaker 1: as a team, care so much about the community that
- 21:31Speaker 1: we've created. And I can't tell you, as the person
- 21:34Speaker 1: who created She's on the money, how much it means
- 21:36Speaker 1: to have my team buy into that. Like it could
- 21:39Speaker 1: just be a job for you guys, it could just
- 21:40Speaker 1: be something that you go, yeah, like I work nine
- 21:42Speaker 1: to five cheese on the money and I just do
- 21:44Speaker 1: my job, and like I'm the head of partnerships, Like
- 21:47Speaker 1: that could just be your job.
- 21:48Speaker 4: But it's not.
- 21:48Speaker 1: It's like everything that you breathe and it's everything that
- 21:51Speaker 1: you love and you're so supportive of that. But it's
- 21:54Speaker 1: like the mission that I'm on and the fact that
- 21:57Speaker 1: you know, it's not just the community that believe in that,
- 21:59Speaker 1: it's the team that we've hired and literally paid to
- 22:02Speaker 1: love it. Like you can't pay people to love their jobs,
- 22:05Speaker 1: like you can pay them to turn up, that's for sure,
- 22:08Speaker 1: But the care that the team has and like the
- 22:10Speaker 1: fact that you were there, and Georgia was there, and
- 22:12Speaker 1: we had Anna Lisa, and we also had Roche there,
- 22:14Speaker 1: like the entire team were it, my family were there.
- 22:17Speaker 4: That was so special to me. Like being able to
- 22:20Speaker 4: share this is so bad, I.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Like this, but being able to share I guess what
- 22:28Speaker 1: I've created with my mom was just so special.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I've never seen a prouder mummy. We just see
- 22:38Speaker 5: it written all over her face. I think as well
- 22:41Speaker 5: for parents, you know, it's hard because they don't really
- 22:44Speaker 5: comprehend I think the social media era and what that encompasses,
- 22:48Speaker 5: and I think, you know, I've met your mom and
- 22:51Speaker 5: bloody love you, Judy, but it's hard for someone who
- 22:54Speaker 5: isn't as involved in that space to understand it. And
- 22:57Speaker 5: I think to see her, I saw her walk in
- 22:59Speaker 5: and stand in a and just kind of take in
- 23:01Speaker 5: the hundreds upon hundreds of people and chairs, like I
- 23:05Speaker 5: could see it in her face. She was so proud
- 23:07Speaker 5: of you, and I think so, you know, not surprised,
- 23:10Speaker 5: but just to really be able to tangibly see that
- 23:14Speaker 5: impact and see that these people were so excited to
- 23:17Speaker 5: be there. I think it meant a lot to her
- 23:18Speaker 5: as well as a mother.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Oh, parents are so like that too. And this is
- 23:22Speaker 2: me not being ages, but like, the tangible nature of
- 23:24Speaker 2: the stuff that we do is really it's visible, and
- 23:27Speaker 2: it's meaningful, as like it was incredibly meaningful for everyone
- 23:30Speaker 2: that was there, and as it was for both of you.
- 23:32Speaker 1: All Right, guys, I'm adoring this, But let's go to
- 23:34Speaker 1: a quick break and then we'll dive straight back in.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Were there any money stories or particular anecdotes that you
- 23:40Speaker 2: guys got told that you took away.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I can't share them with you. I'll just be a
- 23:45Speaker 1: blubbering mess. This is already a podcast of how many
- 23:48Speaker 1: times can you make Victoria cry? So it honestly was
- 23:52Speaker 1: mind blowing. It wasn't just mind blowing that they'd done it.
- 23:55Speaker 1: It was mind blowing that they'd taken the time out
- 23:58Speaker 1: of their day to come and share that with us
- 24:00Speaker 1: and share the fact that she's on the money was
- 24:02Speaker 1: a part of that journey for them, because at the
- 24:05Speaker 1: end of the day, they don't owe us that, Like
- 24:07Speaker 1: they didn't need to come and tell me that they
- 24:09Speaker 1: could have gotten out of debt and been like great,
- 24:10Speaker 1: like that's behind me. I don't have to do that anymore.
- 24:13Speaker 1: But They're really embracing how much that was part of
- 24:17Speaker 1: their money story and wanted to give back to the
- 24:20Speaker 1: rest of the community to say, well, if I did it,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you can do it. I didn't know I could do it,
- 24:24Speaker 1: but you can. You absolutely can. And the amount of
- 24:26Speaker 1: conversations like that was one of my favorite parts of
- 24:28Speaker 1: the event was just that we had allocated so much
- 24:31Speaker 1: time on either side of our speakers to be present
- 24:35Speaker 1: with the community and walk around and see what you
- 24:37Speaker 1: guys were up to and what you were talking about,
- 24:39Speaker 1: and that you were enjoying your late I think going
- 24:42Speaker 1: up to people and realizing that they're only just met
- 24:44Speaker 1: and I'd be like, Oh, what are you talking about?
- 24:46Speaker 4: Are you having fun?
- 24:47Speaker 1: And one girl to me was like, oh, I was
- 24:49Speaker 1: actually just sharing that I got out of debt and
- 24:51Speaker 1: I know that she can too. And I was like,
- 24:53Speaker 1: oh my god, what was your name? And She's like, oh, yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 1: what was your name? Like she couldn't even remember her name,
- 24:58Speaker 1: but like she was telling this girl that she just
- 25:00Speaker 1: had so much power and she could do it. And
- 25:03Speaker 1: I was just like, who are you guys? I love
- 25:05Speaker 1: you like you are my soul. People like it makes
- 25:08Speaker 1: me so happy, And also just shocks me. I suppose
- 25:12Speaker 1: in a world that can be so dark sometimes that
- 25:16Speaker 1: the only thing in this room was sunshine and brightness
- 25:19Speaker 1: and people genuinely wanting the best for each other. Like
- 25:22Speaker 1: how often do you walk into a room of people
- 25:25Speaker 1: who genuinely just go, I don't know you, but I
- 25:28Speaker 1: want you to thrive? Like what And Jess, You're right.
- 25:31Speaker 1: You could feel that energy like they all just wanted
- 25:34Speaker 1: to be there. They wanted to talk to the speakers,
- 25:36Speaker 1: they wanted to mingle and chat, and they wanted to
- 25:39Speaker 1: have a good oat latte. But they also just wanted
- 25:41Speaker 1: everybody in that room to rise up.
- 25:44Speaker 4: And like we say it on the.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Podcast all the time, like there's no such thing as
- 25:48Speaker 1: one succeeding, it's all of us succeed Like and the
- 25:51Speaker 1: success of one person in our community is just a
- 25:53Speaker 1: testament to the fact that everybody can do that. And
- 25:56Speaker 1: we say all the time, and I sound like a
- 25:58Speaker 1: broken record once again, that rising tide lifts all ships.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And you could just feel that tied like you could
- 26:04Speaker 1: genuinely just feel it, like it was almost as though
- 26:07Speaker 1: you could grab it.
- 26:08Speaker 4: It was very very surreal.
- 26:10Speaker 1: But that's probably very biased coming from someone who literally
- 26:14Speaker 1: is the podcast co host and was obsessed with every
- 26:16Speaker 1: single person in the room.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Right, Well, I really hope that the vibe of those days,
- 26:20Speaker 2: if you couldn't make it out, is coming across in
- 26:22Speaker 2: this show. This is definitely intended to be a little
- 26:25Speaker 2: Friday Hurrah, little Friday drinks cheers to the amazing community.
- 26:29Speaker 2: And that's everyone out there who listens to the show
- 26:32Speaker 2: or who just needs a bit of an uplift because
- 26:35Speaker 2: it is a hard time at the moment all over
- 26:36Speaker 2: the world and in this country. Hopefully that ViBe's coming
- 26:39Speaker 2: across to you. And there were so many other people
- 26:41Speaker 2: that sweetened the deal on the day, Jess, those goodie bags,
- 26:45Speaker 2: those sponsors, oh my goodness.
- 26:47Speaker 6: Next level.
- 26:48Speaker 5: Right, it felt so special to us because we really
- 26:51Speaker 5: wanted to make sure that, you know, corporate events, you
- 26:55Speaker 5: walk away with a koozie or a pen. I mean,
- 26:57Speaker 5: I love a kouzie. I'm definitely like a stubby holder.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Oh my god, you heard that before, and Alisa, I
- 27:10Speaker 4: have not.
- 27:10Speaker 5: Oh maybe it's just me, but you know, you go
- 27:12Speaker 5: to these events and you kind of all over the
- 27:14Speaker 5: time walk away with stuff you're probably not going to use, right,
- 27:18Speaker 5: And we didn't want to contribute to waste in that way,
- 27:21Speaker 5: but we also wanted people to be able to kind
- 27:22Speaker 5: of take that good feeling home with them. So we
- 27:24Speaker 5: sat down and we said, right, what brands do we
- 27:27Speaker 5: love who would we love to get on board? And
- 27:29Speaker 5: you know, it was kind of a theoretical. We were like, oh,
- 27:32Speaker 5: I'd really love to have some like LSKT stuff or
- 27:35Speaker 5: some beautiful Syreene skincare, which is the cleanse of the
- 27:37Speaker 5: Futoria and I both love, which is very extensive, very
- 27:41Speaker 5: very good. And we reached out to these brands and
- 27:43Speaker 5: we're just astounded by how quickly and how supportive these
- 27:47Speaker 5: brands were to jump on and we're like, oh my gosh, yes,
- 27:49Speaker 5: we would love to be involved with what can we do?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Like obviously I love a good brow and I love
- 27:55Speaker 1: a good brow. Pencil and Benefit are one of my
- 27:57Speaker 1: favorite brow brands. So when we reached out, I was
- 28:01Speaker 1: shocked when they weren't just like, oh, yeah, sorry, we
- 28:03Speaker 1: can put a flyer in. They literally put a makeup
- 28:06Speaker 1: bag full of makeup in it for our community.
- 28:09Speaker 4: Like what I know, MI go to?
- 28:12Speaker 5: Who are girls that we've you know, worked with their
- 28:14Speaker 5: They started as a small business they're killing it now.
- 28:17Speaker 5: They supported us Bang and Body, the moisturizer we all love.
- 28:21Speaker 5: We had Avianna the label. Another small Melbourne based business,
- 28:24Speaker 5: five PM Beverages, Yes you can drinks, Frankie mag the
- 28:27Speaker 5: girls that Keep It Cleaner, who We're fricking adore like
- 28:30Speaker 5: just what.
- 28:31Speaker 1: They put gifts in the gift bags, but also did
- 28:34Speaker 1: out under the Chair prize, which no one knew was
- 28:36Speaker 1: going to happen, but people literally walked away with a
- 28:39Speaker 1: year's free subscription to their app, which is very, very
- 28:42Speaker 1: cool and obviously something that the Shees on the Money
- 28:44Speaker 1: team used basically daily.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Incredible. They literally got us through lockdown by doing their
- 28:49Speaker 5: Zoom Polarates classes together. It was so much fun, and
- 28:52Speaker 5: then of course the Shares his team really brought it
- 28:55Speaker 5: all together. I'm going to take a little moment here because,
- 28:58Speaker 5: as you said, Partnerships is my space and have been
- 29:00Speaker 5: a partner of ours for over a year now, and
- 29:03Speaker 5: we got to meet them for the first time. They
- 29:05Speaker 5: were there at the Sydney event, so some of you
- 29:07Speaker 5: guys might have met them as well. But it is
- 29:10Speaker 5: such a privilege to work with a business that so
- 29:14Speaker 5: wholeheartedly believes in what we do, like the Charesa's team
- 29:19Speaker 5: are always the first business to say, how can we
- 29:22Speaker 5: support you? We love your idea, how can we uplift that,
- 29:25Speaker 5: how can we amplify you? How can we really work
- 29:29Speaker 5: in with what you're doing? And I think anyone who
- 29:32Speaker 5: works in marketing or advertising knows that sometimes you come
- 29:35Speaker 5: across brands or businesses that just want to put an
- 29:38Speaker 5: add up and be done with it, And we don't
- 29:40Speaker 5: do that here. That's not how we work. We never
- 29:42Speaker 5: have and we never will. But to have someone buy
- 29:46Speaker 5: in so strongly and they are in our Facebook group,
- 29:49Speaker 5: not to advertise, you'll never see them promoing themselves, but
- 29:52Speaker 5: to interact, to read, to see what's going on, because
- 29:55Speaker 5: they genuinely want to engage with and support our community.
- 30:00Speaker 5: It is not very often that you see people buy
- 30:03Speaker 5: in that way. And to meet their team, who were
- 30:07Speaker 5: all female that were there on the day, they have
- 30:09Speaker 5: two out of three CEOs females.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And more than half of their entire workforce a female,
- 30:14Speaker 1: which is epic because they're an investment company.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Like what, that's not something you would have heard ten
- 30:20Speaker 4: years ago.
- 30:20Speaker 5: Ten years ago, they've all been men that all probably
- 30:23Speaker 5: were white, and they have been no diversity whatsoever, and
- 30:28Speaker 5: so it is, you know, not to bang on about it,
- 30:30Speaker 5: but genuinely, they are a delight to work with. I
- 30:33Speaker 5: talk to them weekly and they are so fantastic and
- 30:37Speaker 5: they're so supportive of us and our community, and we
- 30:39Speaker 5: could not have made this event happen without them. So
- 30:41Speaker 5: I'm incredibly thankful for them. I just cannot sing their
- 30:45Speaker 5: praises enough.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Truly. Absolutely, yes, it genuinely felt like we were just
- 30:49Speaker 1: catching up with old friends, Like it was so surreal
- 30:52Speaker 1: to meet some people in real life. But the same
- 30:54Speaker 1: thing happened with a whole heap of community members, Like
- 30:57Speaker 1: there were actually a heap of community members that would
- 30:59Speaker 1: come up to me and be like, oh my god,
- 31:01Speaker 1: hi Victoria, I'm Simran And I was like, no, I
- 31:03Speaker 1: know who you are. They're like how, and I'm like,
- 31:05Speaker 1: cause we talk on Instagram all the time. I just
- 31:07Speaker 1: to see him to be all friends. And they're like, wait,
- 31:09Speaker 1: you know and I'm like yeah, because I know your face,
- 31:12Speaker 1: like you comment all the time in our Facebook group.
- 31:14Speaker 1: And there was one girl and for the life of me,
- 31:16Speaker 1: I can't think of her name right now, and she
- 31:18Speaker 1: came up and she said, hi, and I was like,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you look so familiar. I was like, we've met before.
- 31:22Speaker 1: What's your name? And she's like no, like we've definitely
- 31:24Speaker 1: never met. And I was like are you sure and
- 31:25Speaker 1: she's like, oh, I comment a lot in the Facebook group.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I'm like I knew it because they stalk everybody. That
- 31:31Speaker 1: sounds so creepy, but like I always look at your
- 31:33Speaker 1: profile picture if you've been commenting stuff, then I'm like, yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 1: I can get behind that, Like I want to know
- 31:38Speaker 1: who our community is. So I've definitely creeped on all
- 31:41Speaker 1: of you, which just sounds very strange, but it was
- 31:43Speaker 1: so special in that room to be like no, no, no,
- 31:45Speaker 1: I know you.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Where are you from?
- 31:47Speaker 1: And there would be like oh, I was in the
- 31:48Speaker 1: Facebook group, or oh we talk all the time in
- 31:50Speaker 1: your Instagram dms. It's usually about your cat, but we
- 31:52Speaker 1: talk a lot, and I'm like, oh my gosh. It
- 31:54Speaker 1: genuinely feels like I'm meeting my friends. And that's exactly
- 31:57Speaker 1: how I felt about the Chareseas team. And I spotted
- 31:59Speaker 1: Adrian from across the room and I was like, oh
- 32:01Speaker 1: my gosh.
- 32:02Speaker 4: And gave her the biggest target.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Was like I just hadn't seen her in a while.
- 32:05Speaker 1: It was very strange and surreal, which I'm sure Jaz,
- 32:08Speaker 1: we're not the only people experiencing this. Having had COVID
- 32:12Speaker 1: take us out of the market for two years, not
- 32:15Speaker 1: being able to see people or talk to people or
- 32:18Speaker 1: hug them, it does feel very surreal. And I'm very
- 32:20Speaker 1: aware that there's lots of friendships and things going on
- 32:22Speaker 1: that you know, are happening outside of the She's on
- 32:25Speaker 1: the many community that mean that this is happening for
- 32:27Speaker 1: them too. But they were very special days to be
- 32:30Speaker 1: a part of, and I genuinely cannot wait to see
- 32:33Speaker 1: what else we get up to, because, as you guys know,
- 32:36Speaker 1: we've mentioned Roche on the show already, but Roche has
- 32:39Speaker 1: actually just joined us full time and her entire job, guys,
- 32:43Speaker 1: is to make sure that she's on the money events
- 32:45Speaker 1: come to life. So if you think you've seen the
- 32:47Speaker 1: last of us, you absolutely haven't, because we will be
- 32:49Speaker 1: back again and again, especially with the Roche on our team.
- 32:53Speaker 1: But in saying that, Jess and Elisa, I do think
- 32:55Speaker 1: it is time for us to say goodbye. But I
- 32:58Speaker 1: hope you guys have absolutely hearing a little bit about
- 33:01Speaker 1: our events. If you weren't able to come to them.
- 33:03Speaker 1: I hope that it has filled the void of not
- 33:05Speaker 1: being able to be with us. And if you went
- 33:07Speaker 1: to them last week, hopefully it was a very cute
- 33:10Speaker 1: reminiscing session with the team. So we will see you
- 33:13Speaker 1: next week for an actual Friday drink, so not a
- 33:16Speaker 1: celebratory Friday drinks, albeit they all do feel that way.
- 33:20Speaker 1: But as always, that is all we have time for today.
- 33:22Speaker 1: So Jess, why don't you wrap it for us?
- 33:25Speaker 5: The advice shared on Cheese on the Money it is
- 33:27Speaker 5: generally in nature and does not consider your individual circumstances.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Ches on the Money exists purely for educational purposes and
- 33:33Speaker 5: should not be relied upon to make an investment or
- 33:35Speaker 5: a financial decision. And we promise. Victoria Devine is an
