- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money.
- 0:02Speaker 2: She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 3: for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another
- 0:30Speaker 3: one of our Friday Drinks episodes where our team get
- 0:33Speaker 3: to celebrate the money wins from our She's on the
- 0:36Speaker 3: Money community. As always, we are joined by Tony Lodge
- 0:40Speaker 3: and she is going to kick us off with what
- 0:42Speaker 3: happened on our Monday money Diary.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So our money diary this week is twenty six trans
- 0:49Speaker 1: and preparing for gender affirmation surgery.
- 0:51Speaker 3: It was such a cool money diary.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It was really cool and the awesome thing about it
- 0:56Speaker 1: was that and we mentioned this on the pod as well,
- 0:58Speaker 1: that Victoria and our money darist had actually been chatting
- 1:01Speaker 1: for quite some time through Instagram. They got hooked up
- 1:04Speaker 1: together and.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Split into each other's dance yeah, which is really cool to.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Kind of have the inside scoop on it when normally
- 1:10Speaker 1: it's all so anonymous. But we spoke with them and
- 1:14Speaker 1: they gave us a really great insight into the costs
- 1:17Speaker 1: associated and the language we should use when when chatting
- 1:21Speaker 1: to people, and it was it was really really good.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So I definitely employ you to have a listen. I
- 1:25Speaker 1: know I say that, ever, I.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Literally loved them. Yeah, I do know. We always say
- 1:28Speaker 3: our money dary it was the best one yet.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I felt like I learned so much and it felt
- 1:33Speaker 3: a little bit pervy at times. I was like, Oh,
- 1:35Speaker 3: is it all right if I ask you this? And
- 1:37Speaker 3: they were like yeah, like that's why I'm here, isn't it.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, yeah, cool, thanks, because you know,
- 1:42Speaker 3: it kind of went beyond money a little bit, because
- 1:44Speaker 3: you were like, oh, I'm asking about your personal life
- 1:47Speaker 3: beyond just your financial situation. So I was really grateful
- 1:50Speaker 3: that they were so open and honest with us, like
- 1:53Speaker 3: it was just an epic conversation. And I know that
- 1:55Speaker 3: there are a fair few people in our community that
- 1:57Speaker 3: would really resonate with that, and I just loved being
- 2:00Speaker 3: but to add it to our little money Diary Elite crew, And.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Also, if you're kind of not really sure on how
- 2:07Speaker 1: to best behave like an ally, it's probably a really
- 2:11Speaker 1: good thing to listen to get a little bit of
- 2:13Speaker 1: insight into you know, what to do if you do
- 2:15Speaker 1: misgender someone, and if you're looking for any resources on
- 2:18Speaker 1: that topic as well. There were heaps in the show
- 2:19Speaker 1: notes like a hundred things that are stacked it for Yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 1: that our money dire is sent through, so definitely have
- 2:24Speaker 1: a look.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Yeah, loved it all right, Straight onto the wonderful Georgia King.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Georgia King. What did we speak about on Wednesday? In
- 2:32Speaker 3: a deep do?
- 2:33Speaker 5: This Wednesday was a fun one. What they're always they always?
- 2:40Speaker 5: We spoke about the costs of moving out for the
- 2:43Speaker 5: very first time, So the costs you need to factor
- 2:45Speaker 5: in before you move out, and then the costs that
- 2:48Speaker 5: come up when you're actually out of home, and if
- 2:51Speaker 5: you haven't done it before, like a lot creeps up.
- 2:53Speaker 6: Is it a wild generalization to say it's always way
- 2:56Speaker 6: more than you think?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Oh, absolutely, you've.
- 2:58Speaker 5: Got your bond your first month rant dishwasher tablet, dishwasher
- 3:02Speaker 5: tablets four dollar booze.
- 3:05Speaker 4: I tell you.
- 3:05Speaker 6: The weird one is when there's stuff at your parents' house,
- 3:08Speaker 6: like in the back of the cupboard, that you'd never
- 3:09Speaker 6: think to actually buy, but when you just need like
- 3:11Speaker 6: just a pinch of salt when you move out, you
- 3:14Speaker 6: don't have just those random things in the pantry and
- 3:16Speaker 6: buying a whole big thing of those.
- 3:19Speaker 3: So expensive to stuff. They are olive oil, good olive oil,
- 3:23Speaker 3: Like what is that?
- 3:25Speaker 4: That's a mortgage, that's what happens?
- 3:27Speaker 3: Than wine like that is not on? And then all
- 3:30Speaker 3: of the herbs and spices. Are you meant to buy
- 3:32Speaker 3: every single tiny little jarp?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Do you need smoked and sweet paprika?
- 3:36Speaker 3: I think you do?
- 3:37Speaker 1: Apparently I've got both.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah, well you're a proper adult, so that makes sense. Ryan,
- 3:42Speaker 3: have you got some money with yep?
- 3:44Speaker 6: And I will get ready to do the wins with
- 3:46Speaker 6: my Mattzo's ginger beer.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Just what have you gone?
- 3:48Speaker 7: I've also got a Matzo's. We'd love the mat soos,
- 3:50Speaker 7: don't we. I've got a Lemon.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I've also got a Lemon Tony and I we're bougie today.
- 3:56Speaker 1: We've got a Brookies Byron dry gin and tonic with
- 3:59Speaker 1: native a lime which rolls off the tongue.
- 4:01Speaker 3: It was bougie and to be honest, when we looked
- 4:04Speaker 3: at it, not that you should be looking at the
- 4:05Speaker 3: calories of your drink. They're sugar free, which.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Was to us very impressive because it's hard to get
- 4:12Speaker 1: a good gin and tonic that's sugar free.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Like, we're not sponsored by them, but we have been
- 4:16Speaker 3: drinking them in the office. We've been drinking them while recording,
- 4:20Speaker 3: like it's been pretty good. But we were surprised because
- 4:23Speaker 3: tonic is one of those silent killers when it comes
- 4:26Speaker 3: to sugar.
- 4:27Speaker 6: Yes to satirifice as well tonic water. If you get
- 4:31Speaker 6: a good tonic, they can cost just as much as
- 4:32Speaker 6: the the fever tree.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Ya, you're expensive. I just buy sweeps when it's on sale.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh my god, I buy coal's brawn. Not relatable contay.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Sorry, money wins.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Money wins.
- 4:46Speaker 4: All right, here we go, money wins this week.
- 4:48Speaker 6: Now, this might seem like the simplest money win we've
- 4:51Speaker 6: ever had, but so many people responded with, oh, I
- 4:54Speaker 6: feel that it is genuinely a win. Simone says money
- 4:57Speaker 6: win for the whole month. I didn't tran for money
- 5:00Speaker 6: back from my savings into my everyday a camp. That
- 5:04Speaker 6: is impressive, very, to which Polly just replied, I feel
- 5:09Speaker 6: this deeply.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, that's relatable content.
- 5:12Speaker 6: I mean, that's not sweps. Is that the difference vi
- 5:15Speaker 6: between what intentions and reality? We put five hundred bucks
- 5:18Speaker 6: at the month on payday or whatever our amount is,
- 5:19Speaker 6: go yep, five hundred months saving and then four hundred
- 5:22Speaker 6: and ninety six just makes its way back across when
- 5:24Speaker 6: a bill comes in or something.
- 5:25Speaker 3: That's when you set unrealistic expectations for yourself. And that's
- 5:28Speaker 3: really easy to do, but really hard to undo. And
- 5:32Speaker 3: that's why I preach, literally preach about having a budget
- 5:36Speaker 3: that's realistic and not just an aspirational budget. It's actually
- 5:40Speaker 3: what you're spending and actually what's coming into your account,
- 5:43Speaker 3: because if you're not doing that, you're just going to
- 5:45Speaker 3: shoot yourself in the foot and have to dip into
- 5:47Speaker 3: savings regardless of what you're spending.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Yep.
- 5:49Speaker 6: Now, Melissa says, five figure tax refund coming my way
- 5:54Speaker 6: money when quarter will go to paying off the rest
- 5:58Speaker 6: of my HEXTEBT, which means I am now completely debt
- 6:00Speaker 6: free in every.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Aspect of my life.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Well done, well done.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Now, Aisha applied for a scholarship through university. The application
- 6:09Speaker 6: took about ten minutes, and within a few weeks I
- 6:12Speaker 6: was advised my application was successful and I've just received
- 6:16Speaker 6: fourteen thousand dollars from my university.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Now I've got is that per hour? If she's said
- 6:22Speaker 3: it only took ten minutes.
- 6:23Speaker 6: Let's ask our financial advisor, Hey ask goodbye? Rosie says
- 6:29Speaker 6: money win made my first one thousand dollars in rays.
- 6:33Speaker 6: He's out to one thousand dollars just through round Us,
- 6:35Speaker 6: So she's pretty stoked. Without now Annie, Annie is a
- 6:38Speaker 6: unicorn because this never happens. This is very very rare,
- 6:43Speaker 6: she said. I just got an email from work saying
- 6:45Speaker 6: that my salary has increased two point five percent from
- 6:48Speaker 6: the start of this financial year. I only just started
- 6:51Speaker 6: with the company. I wasn't sure if they did increases
- 6:53Speaker 6: or if I had to negotiate after one year.
- 6:56Speaker 4: They just did it.
- 6:57Speaker 3: That's super cool.
- 6:58Speaker 6: Usually, and this is why I say, you have to
- 7:01Speaker 6: ask and then you follow them up and they say, oh,
- 7:03Speaker 6: we'll think about it. My boss will go to his boss,
- 7:05Speaker 6: go to her bossass and it just takes years and years.
- 7:08Speaker 6: The fact that they just ticked it, like she didn't
- 7:10Speaker 6: even have to ask, they just did it.
- 7:12Speaker 3: It's like government.
- 7:13Speaker 7: I think government roles have a set increase per year,
- 7:16Speaker 7: like you go up like one point five percent.
- 7:18Speaker 3: And they have airpicks super as well. Instead of having
- 7:21Speaker 3: them now ten percent super that we have, they have
- 7:24Speaker 3: I think a minimum of fourteen point five which has
- 7:26Speaker 3: probably just scorn up to fifteen percent super, which is
- 7:29Speaker 3: a money win. Like I remember back in my org
- 7:32Speaker 3: Psyite days having a client that was a university. Obviously
- 7:35Speaker 3: I can't tell you who they were, but they had
- 7:38Speaker 3: people in admin roles that had been there for yongks,
- 7:41Speaker 3: like thirty plus years, just doing these roles because that
- 7:44Speaker 3: was just their job, and they'd got their two point
- 7:46Speaker 3: five percent every single year, so they were on like
- 7:48Speaker 3: one hundred thousand dollars plus income admin roles that if
- 7:52Speaker 3: they were to advertise them obviously would go for less
- 7:55Speaker 3: than that. But then they also had these really big
- 7:58Speaker 3: long service leave packages and like if they were made redundant,
- 8:02Speaker 3: it would have cost that university hundreds of thousands of dollars.
- 8:05Speaker 3: So it's kind of like rock in a hard place
- 8:07Speaker 3: for them. But money win for these people with the
- 8:09Speaker 3: job definitely, because they're like, we're never believing little cash
- 8:14Speaker 3: cow exactly.
- 8:15Speaker 6: Jema said, I had to spend five hundred dollars on
- 8:18Speaker 6: textbooks and I've just started doing YouTube and I've got
- 8:22Speaker 6: my first five hundred dollars in ad sense revenue from
- 8:25Speaker 6: our YouTube channel, which means the YouTube paid for the textbooks,
- 8:29Speaker 6: so she doesn't have to pay a cent.
- 8:30Speaker 2: She said.
- 8:31Speaker 6: Whilst it's the same money win, I say that's two
- 8:33Speaker 6: money wins, right, yeah, money yeah, sure, right, And.
- 8:35Speaker 3: There's so much money in YouTube that I just didn't
- 8:37Speaker 3: know was there.
- 8:38Speaker 6: Yeah. I think this is one of the great manifests
- 8:41Speaker 6: of the year.
- 8:43Speaker 3: And it's not coming from Jessica my favorites.
- 8:46Speaker 6: But well it's come via Jess's aura by putting manifesting
- 8:50Speaker 6: into people's manifests.
- 8:52Speaker 4: So here we go, the community does it.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Together, Vanessa, I was on my way to kmart to
- 8:58Speaker 6: buy a clothes rack classic I found the exact same
- 9:01Speaker 6: clothes rack on the side of the road.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that is so that is what we're here for.
- 9:09Speaker 3: That would be like a dream, like you know how
- 9:10Speaker 3: that stuff happens in your dreams. I'd be like, and she's.
- 9:13Speaker 7: Recycling as well. That person hasn't had to take it
- 9:16Speaker 7: to like yeah, the dump. It's like saved it from
- 9:18Speaker 7: landfille and she got it for free, Like that's amazing.
- 9:21Speaker 3: So well, actually someone was actually a moving house and
- 9:23Speaker 3: it was mind and moving. Yeah, she picked it up
- 9:27Speaker 3: on the way through.
- 9:28Speaker 6: And finally, actually I've got two more. But finally, Tamika,
- 9:32Speaker 6: can you just tell me the grab that see the
- 9:34Speaker 6: pictures on there?
- 9:35Speaker 4: Can you just tell me what you can see.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Oh, he hasn't splashed out with color prints.
- 9:40Speaker 4: It is so much better in color.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Sorry a kitchen bench, No, it's not. It's an entertainment unit.
- 9:47Speaker 4: So what happened is maybe if it was in color.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Well, this is actually interesting because Ta Meeka bought it
- 9:55Speaker 6: for ten dollars from Facebook marketplace. And you can see
- 9:57Speaker 6: the one on the left, who Tony's got. Now it's
- 10:00Speaker 6: it's done up right, she's covering half. So she spent
- 10:02Speaker 6: ten dollars on it, refurbished it, sold it for three
- 10:05Speaker 6: hundred and forty dollars.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Wow.
- 10:08Speaker 4: So the one on the right is like.
- 10:09Speaker 6: That before she's cut it in half, polished it up,
- 10:11Speaker 6: and sold it for a profit of three hundred and thirty.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Dollars much and she's like yes, a hot yeah.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And now it's like a little bureau kind of thing
- 10:20Speaker 1: that what.
- 10:20Speaker 7: Reason touch bro hutches the cupboards on the bottom, shelves
- 10:26Speaker 7: on the top, which was really common in like I'm
- 10:28Speaker 7: going to say seventies eighty.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And then bureau or like a console buckett all.
- 10:35Speaker 7: The same thing is like just like the flat unit.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Sorry that you don't know anything about hon decor how
- 10:41Speaker 1: embarrassing sorry.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I have an Ikea calyx as my TV and I'm
- 10:46Speaker 3: not changing.
- 10:48Speaker 6: All right, one final money win and do you guys
- 10:51Speaker 6: mind if I just make a quick call.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yeah, of course, I'm excited.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Okay, hang on here.
- 11:00Speaker 3: When they don't answer, Hello.
- 11:04Speaker 6: Hello is this guy? Oh yeah, Welcome to the She's
- 11:07Speaker 6: on the Money Friday Drinks episode.
- 11:09Speaker 4: My name is Ryan.
- 11:09Speaker 6: I'm here with Victoria, Tony George, and Jess HALLI Hi. Now,
- 11:14Speaker 6: first of all, I just need to apologize because I
- 11:16Speaker 6: realized I just slipped into your DMS and said, Hi,
- 11:18Speaker 6: my name's Ryan.
- 11:19Speaker 4: What's your number? So I'm just sorry that was weird.
- 11:21Speaker 3: You're marriage? Yeah, I was a little bit sus not
- 11:24Speaker 3: gonna lie.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Yeah, sorry, I am yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Sorry, I see that.
- 11:29Speaker 6: I know I see it because I've kind of just
- 11:30Speaker 6: reread what I've written and I'm like, this would look sus.
- 11:32Speaker 4: But I'm sorry about that.
- 11:33Speaker 6: So, uh, did you post any comments in the She's
- 11:38Speaker 6: on the Money Facebook group in the last week?
- 11:40Speaker 4: Yes?
- 11:40Speaker 3: I did?
- 11:41Speaker 4: What did you post?
- 11:43Speaker 2: I commented on the Queen.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Jar the Queener?
- 11:51Speaker 3: Did you now? My friends?
- 11:54Speaker 6: So last week I was doing spring cleaning because we're
- 11:56Speaker 6: in lockdown, nothing else to do. Literally tidying up and
- 11:59Speaker 6: I found this big bunch of coins and it ended
- 12:01Speaker 6: up being I know right. I mean, if I had
- 12:04Speaker 6: have known it now, I wouldn't have said I'll give
- 12:05Speaker 6: it away because.
- 12:08Speaker 4: But the correct.
- 12:09Speaker 6: Answer was one hundred and nine dollars and fifty cents,
- 12:13Speaker 6: and sky, you correctly guess that.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Money is yours. Well done. That's so fun.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Now can I just add that some your guess was
- 12:25Speaker 6: a one hundred nine dollars and fifty cents. Someone else
- 12:28Speaker 6: guessed one hundred nine dollars and forty five cents, and
- 12:31Speaker 6: some was ten cents. Over there was two point four
- 12:35Speaker 6: thousand guesses.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Wow, this is crazy, This is crazy. That is so fun.
- 12:41Speaker 3: And in our team. Obviously I couldn't enter. And I
- 12:43Speaker 3: thought that it was going to be so much more dramatic,
- 12:46Speaker 3: like that's a hundred bucks. I thought there was like
- 12:47Speaker 3: three hundred dollars in there.
- 12:49Speaker 4: I just couldn't it for you. Sorry, I thought we'd
- 12:52Speaker 4: also scoy. I'm so sorry to show changes.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Sorry, but I also thought we could give it the masterclass,
- 12:58Speaker 3: like that's fun too.
- 12:59Speaker 6: Why would you also like a masterclass? And assigned copy
- 13:02Speaker 6: of Victoria's book?
- 13:03Speaker 3: Oh my god, that would be she can have all
- 13:05Speaker 3: of it. It's a real price, which is like building it.
- 13:10Speaker 3: What else have we got? What can we give Scott?
- 13:13Speaker 6: All right, Scott, I will DM you later with the details.
- 13:16Speaker 6: Please respond and I know, like a weird old guy. Yeah,
- 13:20Speaker 6: actually maybe I'll get just to do it from the
- 13:21Speaker 6: she in the money account just looks official.
- 13:24Speaker 4: You're Scott. Thanks being part of the community.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Have the best night. I love that. What are the
- 13:33Speaker 3: surprises if you got for us?
- 13:34Speaker 4: Seriously, I justmed her and was like, hey, can you
- 13:36Speaker 4: tell me number?
- 13:37Speaker 3: And she gave it to What a trusting person. There's
- 13:42Speaker 3: no way if you DMed me and I hadn't met you,
- 13:45Speaker 3: that I'd give you my number.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Absolutely, I would you verified you?
- 13:54Speaker 3: All right? So we are back and I was going
- 13:57Speaker 3: to take credit for this because we kind of did
- 13:59Speaker 3: something similar last year, but I really can't because Tony
- 14:03Speaker 3: are Yeah, like it sounds like I am because I
- 14:06Speaker 3: Toats did it, But no, we did it last year.
- 14:09Speaker 3: We called it Accountability August, but it definitely didn't have
- 14:11Speaker 3: the same structure that Tony pitched us. We've just used
- 14:14Speaker 3: the same name because it was kind of catchy and
- 14:16Speaker 3: it's really hard to come up with catchy names. So
- 14:18Speaker 3: we've just used the same name, but it's different premise, Tony,
- 14:22Speaker 3: what are we doing this August?
- 14:23Speaker 1: So a couple of months ago, we chatted on Friday
- 14:25Speaker 1: drinks about someone in our community set up a no
- 14:29Speaker 1: spend month and all these other community met like the
- 14:32Speaker 1: post went off and all these people were talking about
- 14:34Speaker 1: how they weren't spending any money, and we thought, wouldn't
- 14:37Speaker 1: it be so funny if we could set up a
- 14:38Speaker 1: challenge month for the community so everyone could take part.
- 14:42Speaker 1: We would all be taking part, And we thought, well,
- 14:44Speaker 1: a no spend month, isn't you know, is maybe setting
- 14:47Speaker 1: a bar a little bit high, and we want it
- 14:49Speaker 1: to be easy for everybody. So we're starting da da
- 14:53Speaker 1: da accountability August yay. So basically we thought it be
- 15:00Speaker 1: really really fun if all of us came up with
- 15:02Speaker 1: a little goal that we wanted to meet over August.
- 15:06Speaker 1: So if you say, oh, I really want to cut
- 15:09Speaker 1: back on buying coffee, then over August you could try
- 15:12Speaker 1: and not buy any coffee and see if you make
- 15:14Speaker 1: it to the end of the month.
- 15:16Speaker 6: And so do we have to say this out loud? Hence, yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 6: the accountability.
- 15:20Speaker 3: You have to say it out loud, but you have
- 15:22Speaker 3: to share it with the community. So we'll have a
- 15:24Speaker 3: thread and we'll be checking in with you, and we're
- 15:26Speaker 3: going to have some really fun social tiles that you
- 15:28Speaker 3: can fill in and like post on your stories and stuff.
- 15:31Speaker 3: And I'm really excited about it because you know, if
- 15:34Speaker 3: I said let's cut back on coffee and not do
- 15:36Speaker 3: that for the month, like that's not relatable to everybody,
- 15:39Speaker 3: like just doesn't drink coffee. Some people would be like, well,
- 15:41Speaker 3: I've been making it at home for ages. I can't participate.
- 15:45Speaker 3: So you guys are going to choose what you want
- 15:47Speaker 3: to be held accountable for, and we all as a
- 15:50Speaker 3: team have different accountability challenges that we're going to take
- 15:53Speaker 3: on and we're just going to hold each other accountable.
- 15:55Speaker 3: So August is really productive and we all end it
- 15:58Speaker 3: on high, which I'm super stoked about. But to get
- 16:02Speaker 3: the wall rolling and give you guys a little bit
- 16:04Speaker 3: of inspiration, jess, what's your accountability August goal?
- 16:08Speaker 7: Well Tony suggested a no spend and I was like,
- 16:11Speaker 7: who do you think I am? Not someone with that
- 16:13Speaker 7: much self control?
- 16:14Speaker 3: That's it. I like it because it's relatable.
- 16:17Speaker 7: Hard no for me. I would love to, but unfortunately
- 16:20Speaker 7: it's just not practical. That's fine, So I decided to
- 16:22Speaker 7: go the other way, and I'm going to try to
- 16:24Speaker 7: make some money.
- 16:27Speaker 3: And you're going to try and spend more money.
- 16:30Speaker 7: I could definitely succeed at that, but no, like I
- 16:34Speaker 7: over lockdown. I'm sure I've said this before as the
- 16:36Speaker 7: money in, but over lockdown, I was cleaning out my closet.
- 16:38Speaker 7: I had a bunch of extra stuff, and we did
- 16:40Speaker 7: that really fun campaign with gum Tree last month as well,
- 16:43Speaker 7: where we learned that statistically, the average person has like
- 16:45Speaker 7: twenty seven unused items in their house. That's a lot
- 16:48Speaker 7: of that's a lot of items. So I thought, I'm
- 16:50Speaker 7: going to set myself the goal. I don't know if
- 16:52Speaker 7: this is way too ambitious because I sell things for
- 16:54Speaker 7: like five dollars, but I'm going to try to hit
- 16:57Speaker 7: five hundred dollars. Oh, you can totally do that month
- 17:00Speaker 7: of August. So Wardrobe's cute guys, I would buy her stuff.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Check me out on deep up, help me out.
- 17:05Speaker 1: The thing that I'm worried about though, with Jess is
- 17:07Speaker 1: that she's already started selling already ahead of us.
- 17:10Speaker 3: No no, no, no.
- 17:11Speaker 1: No, no no, August hasn't started.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Bad luck, mate, so none of it.
- 17:15Speaker 1: So none of the money she's made so far counts.
- 17:17Speaker 3: But don't go to my detop until August.
- 17:19Speaker 4: First, I have a question.
- 17:22Speaker 6: Victoria just said that she likes a lot of the
- 17:24Speaker 6: stuff in your wardrobe and she might buy it.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Is that awkward?
- 17:26Speaker 6: Because Victoria has already bought it, You've borrowed it from
- 17:28Speaker 6: her and now yourself.
- 17:30Speaker 3: It's just like a really great life cycle between that
- 17:34Speaker 3: happens in our office a fair bit. We're like, oh, Tony,
- 17:36Speaker 3: nice earrings, will you be wearing them next Friday? All right, Georgia,
- 17:42Speaker 3: what are you going to bring to the table?
- 17:44Speaker 5: Okay, so you both brought up this example before, Oh
- 17:47Speaker 5: did we? I'm going to ditch the hot bruise.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it's such a good one.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I've found, especially through lockdown. We've just come out
- 17:55Speaker 5: of a couple of weeks of that coffee every day
- 17:58Speaker 5: was my one thing, but now the plenty of other.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Joy in the world.
- 18:01Speaker 5: So I'm going to like seeing in person precisely, Yeah, exactly.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Do you think a coffee like no coffee at all
- 18:08Speaker 5: or maybe no.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Perchase week day? Okay, So like you can make it
- 18:12Speaker 3: at home. I think that's fine.
- 18:13Speaker 6: Some people could spend not much, make it at home
- 18:16Speaker 6: and save a fortune on the five dollars a day
- 18:18Speaker 6: going to a cafe, like to make it one single
- 18:20Speaker 6: coffee at home be way less than a dollar. So
- 18:22Speaker 6: if you're going to drive yourself insane by having no coffee,
- 18:24Speaker 6: I mean that's a physical challenge.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Buy some coffee. Yeah, yeah, someone can buy your coffee.
- 18:31Speaker 3: That's like a loophole. Half. I can just like buy
- 18:33Speaker 3: all your coffee.
- 18:34Speaker 6: If you see someone in Carlton North just loitering around
- 18:37Speaker 6: a cafe, then you are going to finish finisher.
- 18:42Speaker 3: No, I want to take it a step further because like,
- 18:44Speaker 3: not buying coffees is one half of it. But like Ryan,
- 18:47Speaker 3: you actually have to do some money. So you have
- 18:50Speaker 3: to like work out how much on average you were
- 18:53Speaker 3: spending on coffee last month, and I want you to
- 18:55Speaker 3: each week put that in a savings account so that
- 18:57Speaker 3: at the end of the month you have something to
- 18:58Speaker 3: show for it stead of just depriving yourself and maybe
- 19:01Speaker 3: having spent it on something else. Like we want to
- 19:04Speaker 3: get to the end of the month and have an outcome,
- 19:07Speaker 3: not go well, I just didn't have a coffee. Where
- 19:09Speaker 3: that money go?
- 19:10Speaker 5: Pay myself?
- 19:11Speaker 4: All right?
- 19:11Speaker 5: Cool?
- 19:12Speaker 6: My accountability August. And this is going to be really
- 19:15Speaker 6: hard because not only is it about the money, but
- 19:17Speaker 6: I actually just love it.
- 19:18Speaker 4: I'm not going to do Uber eats for a whole month,
- 19:21Speaker 4: a month, the whole month of August.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Whoats?
- 19:24Speaker 4: So where the money's going to work?
- 19:26Speaker 3: In breakfast radio? And you're saying, no.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Oh, that is tricky. I'll make Jason pay for is.
- 19:33Speaker 3: The loophole here that Bridget does the Uber ey?
- 19:35Speaker 4: No?
- 19:36Speaker 6: No, I just don't want Uber eats for the month.
- 19:38Speaker 6: But what I will do is I'll figure oh, this
- 19:40Speaker 6: is awful. I'll figure out how much I've spent on
- 19:43Speaker 6: Uber eats through July and June, and then the money
- 19:45Speaker 6: I haven't spent. I'll be able to see the difference
- 19:47Speaker 6: between the two.
- 19:48Speaker 1: And that's good.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Could be confronting.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I like that. Could you please share that with the
- 19:53Speaker 3: team later, Tony Lodge, what have you got for us?
- 19:57Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna give it a red hot go and
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'm going to try and do a no spend month
- 20:03Speaker 1: for August.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Yet it quick like a no discretionary month or she's
- 20:07Speaker 3: not buying groceries.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I'm just going to not pay rand. So the way
- 20:14Speaker 1: that I'm going to figure out how much money I've
- 20:15Speaker 1: saved is every time I go to buy something like say,
- 20:18Speaker 1: go to buy lunch, go to buy a coffee, or
- 20:20Speaker 1: like a sports membership, might I don't know, just trying
- 20:23Speaker 1: to sound relatable. Then I'm going to go, all right,
- 20:25Speaker 1: well that would be twenty five dollars, and then I'm
- 20:28Speaker 1: going to put that twenty five dollars into another account.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So I'm still going to spend the money, but it'll
- 20:34Speaker 1: just go to that instead of yeah, how much you
- 20:38Speaker 1: would have spent.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Ye.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So I believe in you.
- 20:41Speaker 3: You can do it.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Thank you. I'm very scared, but I'm really excited. I
- 20:44Speaker 1: think it'll be a good exercise. Yes, what do you
- 20:47Speaker 1: do on v okay?
- 20:48Speaker 3: So I have committed and I committed to this because
- 20:52Speaker 3: over the last six months, I feel like you've heard
- 20:54Speaker 3: it on my Confessions a number of times. I'm not
- 20:57Speaker 3: that good at bringing lunch to work. I'm not going
- 20:59Speaker 3: to buy lunch at work any of those days, and
- 21:02Speaker 3: I'm going to bring packed lunch and like plan my meals.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Pack by a restaurant with Uber Eats.
- 21:07Speaker 3: No Uber eats for lunch. No eating out for lunch
- 21:11Speaker 3: unless it's like a celebration.
- 21:14Speaker 6: If we're both not doing uberats, what are we going
- 21:15Speaker 6: to do when the two of us are together.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Oh, we'll start will be really hungry, know what we do?
- 21:20Speaker 3: If we're we're actually going to be really thin by
- 21:22Speaker 3: the end of the month.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Let's not make too high.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Predictably, I'll be packing enough snacks. I'll be like, oh,
- 21:29Speaker 3: I'm just eating this corn for lunch, Tony, and you'll
- 21:31Speaker 3: feel like, why are we committed? I guess yeah. So
- 21:36Speaker 3: I'm going to bring my lunch every single day to
- 21:38Speaker 3: work that I go to work, and I'm not going
- 21:40Speaker 3: to order uber eats if I'm working from home, which
- 21:43Speaker 3: I have fallen back on during lockdown because that's easy.
- 21:46Speaker 3: So I think that that for me is it's genuinely
- 21:49Speaker 3: going to be challenging. But I'm actually really excited and
- 21:53Speaker 3: I feel like I'm really excited to see what everybody
- 21:55Speaker 3: else does. And I think I'm going to end up
- 21:56Speaker 3: with FOMO because I know the second that thread comes out,
- 21:59Speaker 3: people are going to have better ideas than I had.
- 22:01Speaker 1: So there's that, but hopefully some of our ideas have
- 22:04Speaker 1: given you a little bit of inspiration and I'll get
- 22:06Speaker 1: Jess to pop up a little thread and you can
- 22:08Speaker 1: all talk about what you're going to do, and hopefully, yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 1: it's like the kick that you need to do a
- 22:13Speaker 1: little bit of a challenge. Because as well, we've seen
- 22:15Speaker 1: lots of people talking in the group about being in
- 22:17Speaker 1: lockdown and going, I'm just spending so much money because.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I feel crap about being a home. It's so easy
- 22:25Speaker 3: to feel awful when.
- 22:26Speaker 1: You're home and do that little naughty Uber eats order
- 22:28Speaker 1: because you go, oh, I could make a coffee, but
- 22:30Speaker 1: I really like the one down the road, and then
- 22:32Speaker 1: you Uber eats ring coffee, Uber eats ring, Uber eats
- 22:36Speaker 1: eats a no bring whatever, and then spend.
- 22:39Speaker 4: August has really got to your head.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't take any money already.
- 22:46Speaker 3: All right, that is enough about accountability, August. Let's do
- 22:49Speaker 3: some money wins and confessions before we wrap this up
- 22:52Speaker 3: and get out of here. Let's throw it straight to
- 22:55Speaker 3: Georgia King. All right, what have you got a confession?
- 23:00Speaker 3: You just staring at me being like, don't do it.
- 23:03Speaker 3: We'll get it over with.
- 23:05Speaker 5: So, as I just said before, lockdown meant that I
- 23:09Speaker 5: spent a lot of money on coffee, and it also
- 23:11Speaker 5: meant that I spent a lot of time on social media.
- 23:14Speaker 5: And as you guys know, that's not my jam.
- 23:16Speaker 1: That's not usual, George.
- 23:18Speaker 4: It doesn't sound like you know.
- 23:19Speaker 5: I've been scrolling. I've been looking at things, clicking, liking.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Commenting the basic premises.
- 23:26Speaker 5: But I found in doing so that I want more,
- 23:30Speaker 5: I really want, and I've been buying things and I shouldn't.
- 23:35Speaker 5: And we always say she's on the money. To unsubscribe
- 23:39Speaker 5: from the marketing emails, unfollow those pages that make you
- 23:42Speaker 5: want to buy, and I just like it following.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I say not as we do for the podcast.
- 23:47Speaker 5: You know, I've just really noticed it, like I've never
- 23:50Speaker 5: really did this.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Jumper jumpers a lot.
- 23:56Speaker 5: I saw many jumps.
- 23:57Speaker 3: I don't need anyone do. I feel like you.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Always jumpers, really jumpers and coffee.
- 24:04Speaker 5: But I'm going to like unsubscribe and unfollow and try
- 24:07Speaker 5: and be more zen.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I've been doing that a lot lately, muting a lot
- 24:10Speaker 1: of Instagrams because I still want to support them with
- 24:13Speaker 1: the follows because it's like a brand that I like.
- 24:15Speaker 1: But I just go, oh, you know what, I can't
- 24:17Speaker 1: really look at you right now, and it actually makes
- 24:20Speaker 1: so much of a different really.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, Jess, you are awfully quiet. What have
- 24:25Speaker 3: you got for us?
- 24:26Speaker 7: I have a win ya, but it's a loss because
- 24:29Speaker 7: it's a deep up win, like a week too soon.
- 24:33Speaker 7: But it's really fun because, as I said, I've been
- 24:35Speaker 7: cleaning stuff out, putting them on deep up selling a
- 24:36Speaker 7: few bits and bobs, and a.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Girl purchased a couple of items.
- 24:40Speaker 7: And I do this thing where like, if a person
- 24:41Speaker 7: purchases like a bundle of items, I'll usually do them
- 24:43Speaker 7: a cheeky like discount, and normally people will ask that
- 24:46Speaker 7: because we all love our bargains when we're shopping second
- 24:49Speaker 7: haand online. I do it too, totally guilty. But she
- 24:52Speaker 7: didn't ask, and I was like, oh, hey, like I've
- 24:54Speaker 7: knocked five bucks off because you've purchased a couple of things.
- 24:56Speaker 7: And she was like, oh my gosh, thank you so much.
- 24:58Speaker 7: I'm going to count. This is a money win for
- 25:00Speaker 7: the much it was Margaret from the community, and I
- 25:03Speaker 7: got so excited.
- 25:05Speaker 3: So that is literally sunny win.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Life win.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Margaret. I'd love a photo of you in the clothes
- 25:10Speaker 3: cheers Maggie, But like, oh that is so cute. I
- 25:14Speaker 3: love that so so much. Can I do my money
- 25:17Speaker 3: win now?
- 25:18Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 25:18Speaker 3: I have two? Are you ready?
- 25:19Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 25:19Speaker 3: Okay, So the first one is actually related to jess is.
- 25:23Speaker 3: There was this dress that I really wanted and couldn't
- 25:25Speaker 3: find it. It sold out really quickly, and it sold
- 25:27Speaker 3: out really quickly. It probably didn't it was just too
- 25:30Speaker 3: expensive for me to justify at the time. Founded on
- 25:32Speaker 3: Facebook marketplace, but for rent, and I was like, oh, like,
- 25:36Speaker 3: I don't want to rent it. I actually want to
- 25:38Speaker 3: buy it because I want to wear it more regularly
- 25:40Speaker 3: than that. So I messaged the girl and said, hey,
- 25:42Speaker 3: totally no, it's up for rent, but I'd love to
- 25:45Speaker 3: buy it when you're done with it, like let me know.
- 25:47Speaker 3: She was like, oh, I only have like one more
- 25:50Speaker 3: booking left on it. You can actually buy it from me.
- 25:52Speaker 3: After that all counted as a money win. She was
- 25:55Speaker 3: also from the community, and that's so bad. But I
- 25:59Speaker 3: nearly forgot about that as a money win and it
- 26:02Speaker 3: was literally the best thing ever. She's like, oh my god,
- 26:04Speaker 3: I'll package it all up after you know it comes back.
- 26:07Speaker 3: I'll dry clean it for you. And I'm like, do
- 26:09Speaker 3: I need to pay you more for that like, I
- 26:10Speaker 3: will cover all of it. I just want the dress. Yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 3: and yeah, it was like I paid I think twenty
- 26:15Speaker 3: five percent of the original price, which is a money
- 26:17Speaker 3: win for a dress, and I'm like, seventy five percent off.
- 26:21Speaker 7: Yes, And it's like seeing the community in the wild,
- 26:24Speaker 7: Like it's so fun when I like bump into someone
- 26:26Speaker 7: or if someone sees this and SA's high, I'm like, oh.
- 26:28Speaker 3: My god, you're an actual busy No, it's so fun,
- 26:31Speaker 3: Like you guys are faking. This is so weird.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I love it.
- 26:35Speaker 3: And then my actual money win, which is a big
- 26:38Speaker 3: money win slash money loss. I bought a car, which
- 26:43Speaker 3: I'm very excited about because it's been a long time
- 26:46Speaker 3: in the making and I think our team are a
- 26:48Speaker 3: bit sick of the car that I have right now because.
- 26:51Speaker 1: We don't all fit in it.
- 26:53Speaker 3: It's like a small two door coupe. It was the
- 26:56Speaker 3: first car that I purchased when I could afford to
- 26:58Speaker 3: buy a car for myself, and I still love it,
- 27:01Speaker 3: like I haven't sold it yet because I literally love it.
- 27:04Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh, I have to go to a
- 27:05Speaker 3: good owner. Like I love her. I've looked after her
- 27:07Speaker 3: very very.
- 27:08Speaker 6: Well, but when I'm in the front seat and then
- 27:10Speaker 6: Tony's on my lap and then the dog's on Tony's lap.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like like awner and it's got like the
- 27:19Speaker 3: squishiest little back seat. And now with Lucy the dog,
- 27:22Speaker 3: I needed something bigger, right, So obviously if you upgraded
- 27:25Speaker 3: your car because of the dog, like it was a factor,
- 27:29Speaker 3: is that bad?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Nah?
- 27:32Speaker 4: Thread on this? Did you upgrade your car for your dog?
- 27:34Speaker 4: Put a threat?
- 27:35Speaker 1: I think a lot of people.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Style make a thread I reckon lots of people.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Yeah, so I needed a bigger car, right, But in
- 27:45Speaker 3: true she's on the money form. There is no way
- 27:46Speaker 3: I was purchasing a brand new one. And with current
- 27:50Speaker 3: car prices, there was also no way I was purchasing
- 27:52Speaker 3: something secondhand in my state because they're all really overpriced,
- 27:56Speaker 3: like COVID pricing is wild. And so I was also
- 27:59Speaker 3: happy put this purchase off for ages because I was like,
- 28:01Speaker 3: all right, like, it's no worry to me. I don't
- 28:04Speaker 3: want to be stooge on a bad deal. Yeah, anyway,
- 28:07Speaker 3: found one interstate. It was over in Perth Perth car
- 28:11Speaker 3: Market preserve, yes, but it wasn't nearly as overpriced as
- 28:16Speaker 3: what the cars in Melbourne were and I got in
- 28:19Speaker 3: contact with them. It was like a wholesale dealer, so
- 28:21Speaker 3: you know, to be owned by someone else before, which
- 28:23Speaker 3: I clearly was okay with. And they were like, yup, cool,
- 28:26Speaker 3: Like we can ship it over to you really easily.
- 28:28Speaker 3: It was all included.
- 28:29Speaker 1: It did your process.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Yes, but like I got a secondhand car for literally
- 28:34Speaker 3: like twenty percent less by buying it inter state than
- 28:38Speaker 3: I did by buying it in.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Melbourne, and even the cost of shipping it over still
- 28:41Speaker 6: way cheaper.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Yep, still way cheaper. So I obviously did my numbers,
- 28:45Speaker 3: had a spreadsheet the cost of shipping it over, paying
- 28:48Speaker 3: for registration in Victoria, and the insurance and all of
- 28:51Speaker 3: the stuff that goes along with that, because you also
- 28:53Speaker 3: need to get like a road worthy and there were
- 28:55Speaker 3: a few hoops much cheaper, still more than twenty percent cheaper.
- 28:59Speaker 3: And I'm very very excited about it because now I
- 29:01Speaker 3: can fit my whole team in the car and my dog.
- 29:03Speaker 7: We can go and get nuggets, we can go through
- 29:06Speaker 7: drive through as the person always relegated to the backseat.
- 29:10Speaker 3: I'm very excited to a door a the going will
- 29:16Speaker 3: be a luxury.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Can you get the lever for me, I'm still in
- 29:19Speaker 4: the back here.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Again, Tony. What is your money win or confession?
- 29:23Speaker 1: I have a confession. So over the past week, my
- 29:27Speaker 1: boyfriend and I have been moving house, and I know
- 29:29Speaker 1: that I've talked about it a lot. So this is
- 29:31Speaker 1: I promise the last time. And we got a cleaner
- 29:35Speaker 1: in to do all the last bits and pieces, and
- 29:38Speaker 1: they were like, the real estate agent came back with
- 29:40Speaker 1: a couple of things and they said, there's a few
- 29:43Speaker 1: more things that you've got to do. Would you do
- 29:44Speaker 1: you want to just come in and do them? And
- 29:46Speaker 1: I said, no, please, just get another cleaner and I'll
- 29:49Speaker 1: just don't pay them. No, it's too.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Late, I know. And they probably cleaned it himself. The
- 29:58Speaker 4: real estate agent probably took your.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I can't believe you didn't get Jess to call them
- 30:03Speaker 3: and like query about she would be so sassy on
- 30:07Speaker 3: the phone. It would have worked out in your favor
- 30:09Speaker 3: and you could have just bought her a hot chocolate
- 30:11Speaker 3: or something.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but well, for the sanity, it was a bit lazy,
- 30:14Speaker 1: but a bit of a confession that there's there goes
- 30:16Speaker 1: a bit in there, a little bit of cash which
- 30:18Speaker 1: I probably could have hung on to, but I just
- 30:20Speaker 1: won't spend it next month.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I love that. Ryan.
- 30:24Speaker 3: If you got something you'd like to share with the group.
- 30:27Speaker 4: I'm an idiot.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Oh okay, well could you tell us.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Something we do? And I also have a confession.
- 30:34Speaker 6: I lost my car keys again one so I lot
- 30:39Speaker 6: of car keys a while ago, but I've only now
- 30:41Speaker 6: got around to replacing them because I've been using the
- 30:43Speaker 6: spare keys and it's one of the you know, I
- 30:46Speaker 6: don't want to say proper ones, but.
- 30:47Speaker 3: You know, but like the electric ones are really expensive to.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Especially when you drive a Volkswagen.
- 30:52Speaker 6: Well, speaking of Volkswagen, it comes from Germany. The actual key.
- 30:56Speaker 6: They're like, oh, we have to call Germany to order it.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Prog I don't think called hey Germany, how are you?
- 31:02Speaker 4: How about those Olympics we beat you?
- 31:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 31:04Speaker 6: Yeah, classic, I assumed, and I knew they weren't going
- 31:06Speaker 6: to be like cheap cheap, but I thought I'd go
- 31:08Speaker 6: into the place that does the service, mister minute, and
- 31:10Speaker 6: they would just open the.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Drawer and go, yeah, cool.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Mate, here it is another one. Is that not the case?
- 31:15Speaker 6: It takes five weeks, they have to order it from Germany.
- 31:17Speaker 6: Then you take your car and you didn't have a spare,
- 31:21Speaker 6: and they're.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Like, maybe hey, gone, guys, locksmith's sort of thing like probably.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Get in the car, but like you couldn't drive it.
- 31:27Speaker 3: And if that's the case, I'd pay a locksmith like
- 31:29Speaker 3: a couple of hundred dollars because I feel like Ryan's
- 31:32Speaker 3: about to tell us what his key cost.
- 31:34Speaker 6: Four week weight from Germany. Then they have to program
- 31:37Speaker 6: it in the computer and it's going to cost over
- 31:39Speaker 6: three hundred and fifty dollars.
- 31:41Speaker 1: That's how much my cleaner was.
- 31:42Speaker 4: Oh my god, we're both as dumb as each We
- 31:44Speaker 4: are idiots.

- 31:50Speaker 7: Can a locksmith make a key based on it? No,
- 31:53Speaker 7: that's probably really only thing.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Well it's for a computer.

- 32:02Speaker 4: Like normally they.

- 32:08Speaker 3: Old apparently, yeah, we're definitely like, my new car doesn't
- 32:12Speaker 3: even have that.
