- 0:00SPEAKER_02: I would love to welcome everyone back to our podcast unloaded.
- 0:05SPEAKER_02: This is Michael Seahorn.
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: And Shannon Morrow.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: I am glad to be back here again.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: You usually said I'd like to welcome you.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Normally, I think almost every podcast, I'd like to welcome in this.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: I just heard you say love.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: You just change it up.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Change it up a little bit.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: People keep I'm too consistent sometimes.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: There's a balance.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: People appreciate consistency while at the same time.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Whoa, you're changing things up.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: We're changing things up.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: I'm a attention to detail guy.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: You know that, man.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: So it's uh I try to keep things very consistent.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: That's why I was so surprised you changed one word.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: You went from like to love.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, everybody's everybody's calling me out on it.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: It's fitting.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: It's been a good week last week, it's been a good week this week, and uh why not?
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Why not start with a little something different?
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: Because this this is gonna airs.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: This will air the week of my birthday.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, cool.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Uh I take that back.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Well, that was false.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Next week, which we already recorded.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: So the actually actually that's gonna be good.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: The episode we just recorded is gonna land the week of my birthday, man.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: That is that's fitting.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: I think.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Or am I a week behind, Shan?
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Our listeners don't give enough shit.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: But there's some if these are pre-recorded.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Let's clear the record.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Just for my head.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: This episode will air on the 21st of October, and for me it's important.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Uh because that week starts a new journey and ends ends the journey, and this is gonna be right in the middle of both of those.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: So little just a little symbol symbology there.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: This episode right here that we're recording.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: So the one we just recorded was next week.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: I was a week behind.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: So this uh sounds like this is an important episode, a symbolic episode.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Uh-oh.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: And you kind of gave it to me right before we hit record.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: So now I really gotta make it good, right?
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: And I don't even know where I'm going with it.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: That's all right.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like I said, I think I said it last episode.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: I I'm kind of a I don't know, I think I think things matter to certain people, but for me, I like signs and symbols, and um my tenure at peak will be eight years on the twenty-second.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: I started a new venture on the nineteenth.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Um you know, so it's been a long time, man.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: You know, and it's just it's weird how that it's just sometimes it's very odd how the universe just puts things all in the you know, it's like bam, bam, bam, you know.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: When I started uh over there, I started in 2018, and if you back the calendar out, I started on Monday the 22nd, and my birthday was the 23rd.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: It's like, you know, welcome.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: Uh so now it's the Oppo.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: I'll start something new on the 19th, and Friday will be my birthday.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: So it's just there's some symbols, some things in there, you know what I mean?
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: So what do we got today, Shannon?
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Huh.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: What do we want?
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: It's ha it's a Friday afternoon.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: It's my turn, and without a lot of uh thought or planning, you know.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, I guess I'd keep trying to go back to, you know, our container of wait, oh, this is a podcast.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: And wait, what's what's it about?
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: What's the theme of our podcast?
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: What's the title of our podcast, and even the the slogans, the catchphrases and stuff?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Like we've I mean, for a bunch of podcasts now, we've been talking about a lot of that, and it's been pretty nice how we've evolved into some different, more relevant stuff here.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: But given like even how we just opened this episode, how man, it's been a good week and things are much lighter for you, and everything that's occurred, uh just what you spoke to our previous episode, and um you know what maybe if we flip it a little bit, if our podcast is normally you know unloaded and the weight we carry and and everything, but sometimes we truly do get to put down that backpack, we truly get to take some weight out.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: We like, whew, after what feels often like a long run, a lot of weight, a lot of time of just carrying and persevering and just trying to get through and tough stuff out, and then when indeed, oh, wait, there's the change.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, holy moly, and it's huh, that huge relief, you know.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Um what do we do with that?
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: How do we because that's almost more unfamiliar.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: We're used to grinding, we're used to toughen it out and pushing through and carrying weight, but but when truly we get little little rest, little changes that you know, how what's your experience of that?
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Very, very good question.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: It's a very good question, man.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Because you're good at the grind, you're good at hauling weights, and yet now suddenly to have this big change and like this big relief, this big whew, you know, um, it's that's probably more unfamiliar to you.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: A little bit, definitely for sure.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: Um I find myself a lot so in the let me explain this for you real quick, just this makes sense to some of our listeners.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: You'll understand when I explain it, but so anytime you get a a mission set uh in the US military, I'm I'm pretty sure this is uh all all branches, but I I I don't know for sure, but definitely for the US Army.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Anytime you have a a big mission at hand, um they put together what's called a battle plan, right?
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: And that battle plan goes through literally everything.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, just anything you think about is going to be in your battle plan, right?
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: I find myself right now, uh actually happened this morning.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Um I I was not in any rush this morning.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: I was uh working on shockingly, I was working on the the new website for Ravian 8 Transport.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: Uh and um right before then, I I was really just sitting uh at my desk and I was literally wrote the words battle plan next 30.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: Oh wow, and um I think I default to that sometimes because when I find myself in a uh when when there's drastic change like right now, this is really drastic change for me.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: Um I I sometimes default back to where I'm comfortable and I think for me and my mentality and maybe just who I am as a human being I like to know kind of what what do I think the next 30 days could bring me.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: So I just kinda I kind of brainstorm a little bit on paper.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: Um I'll lay out what I'm uh getting ready to to go, so we'll use Ravenate Transport as an example.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Um so when I do what I call a battle plan for that, I just really think about okay, what what would I like?
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Best case scenario, like all the stars line up, all the planets are where they need to be, right?
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: You have the perfect weather, everything is just hunky dory.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: Like, what would you love the next 30 days to be like for this new journey for Raven A transport?
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: That's where I start.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Because it's it's it's easy for me to put out there my desires and my hopes and my wants in this new business venture, right?
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: So I just I just start laying it out on paper, man.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Like how many runs would you like in the next 30 to 45 days?
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: You know, that you could legitimately do.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Because I, you know, I have some other venture that I'm not gonna talk about right now, uh, because it's not fully ready to go.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: But you know, I want to do, you know, one haul every Saturday for the next eight weeks, right?
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Where do you want it to go?
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: How many miles?
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Like what how much money do I think I can make in those in those runs, right?
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: And then I start working my way down that battle plan of okay, well, what if that doesn't work?
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: What if you can't get eight?
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Maybe you can only get five.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Okay, what does that look like?
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Okay, what if you didn't get five and the the bare minimum was three?
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: What does that look like?
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, what's plan B?
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: If you don't hit your threshold in 45 days and you're short, how can you make up that that difference?
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: So then I'll I'll kind of just write out some ideas, right?
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: So that's kind of how I deal with this backpack, if you will, that has now become empty where I'm fresh, I feel fresh in my mind and my spirit, I physically feel lighter, I physically feel so much better.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: Instead of just opening that backpack and just start chucking random shit in it, I really try to sit down and pull myself back and go, okay, what does the next 30 look like for you?
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: What are you what would you like to accomplish in those next 30?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: And then I try to write a very crystal clear action plan behind those those thoughts.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: They're well planned out.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just sitting down, gathering your thoughts, capturing them, writing them down on paper, and uh provides you a lot of direction.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:38unknown: Yeah.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: I think I think they used to call it back in my college day, I think they used to call it like free writing or something where you just like you don't care about the punctuation, the spelling, and like they just want you to like mind dump.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you ever did that in college or not, but I know you're talking you know what I'm talking about, right?
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Where they just say let it go.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, don't focus on anything but just writing, you know what I mean?
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can't do that.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: I I can't either.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: I've tried, but uh it it's very difficult for me too.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: But um that's similar, it's very similar in how I do this uh 30-day battle plan for me in my personal life.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: It's like where have I been slipping up right last six weeks?
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Well, my health hasn't been the best over the last six weeks.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: Um, haven't been exercising as much as I would love to.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Um had my um spinal ablasions done.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: There's some adverse reactions to that, so I've been you know pulling back on the physical stuff in order to let that healing process take place.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Um I've been overwhelmed, uh, lots of stress, uh mentally fatigued, uh, didn't get as much reading in as I'd like or I normally do.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: So it's good just to kind of look back and just like, okay, where where have I been short of my normal routine?
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: And then how do I get back into it?
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: You know, instead of instead of just diving in um and and trying to do everything all at once, I I try to prioritize where I feel I get where I get the most traction.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: So for me, it it's always meditation and and reading.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: Those those two things help me out a lot.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: So those two things I'm gonna work back in immediately.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: And then as I gain some traction, hopefully as the weeks are coming, then you can sprinkle in some other things.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, nice interesting as you go.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good approach.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Ah, meditation, good reminder.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: I I try to shortcut that a little, like, oh, like I I don't want to have to get up earlier to you know have that dedicated time, even though I know that that's the best, like that's really what I want.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: But you know, I I get lazy, I just uh whatever, want to sleep a little longer, and so well, I'll just work it in through the day.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that's fair, man.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, is it though, like, yeah, it a couple minutes here, a couple minutes there.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, good.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna sit still here and just be present.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna, huh.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, just pay attention to my breath here for a few minutes, you know.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, it kind of chops it up.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: It's not as intentional, you know.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: So it's thank you for the reminder.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh yeah, to actually dedicate a little time to that, even if it's just 10-15 minutes, you know, but prioritizing it a little more instead of fitting it in when I can, it I it it helps a lot more.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: Uh it really does.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's um, you know, it's a we've talked about many, many times.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: You know, to each is their own, as they say, but for me, just setting the tone for the day, it's important for me.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: And I've lost that over the last, you know, um six weeks.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Not lost it completely, but it's definitely been a roller coaster.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: But I'm an early riser, I cannot sleep in.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: I try, it drives my wife nuts.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: I don't send an alarm, I don't have alarms anymore.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: I just I don't care what time I go to bed, at between 3 and 4 a.m., my eyes are open and I'm I'm I'm ready to get up.
- 13:18SPEAKER_02: Man, that's early.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Uh I mean I've tried.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's been a couple times where uh you know my eyes are open.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Um I don't look at my phone ever, even in the middle of the night if I wake up and I feel like it's just in the middle of the night.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: I purposely will not look at my my phone because I don't want to know consciously what time it is.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: So I'll lay back down and try to you know get a little more sleep if that's what I feel.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: But generally speaking, when the eyes pop, it's it's between 3:30 and 4 every freaking time, man.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: So it's like, do I just lay here or you know, I'd I'd rather just get out of bed.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: It makes me feel it makes me feel better, man.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: So even if you're going to bed at nine, that's still six-ish hours of sleep, you know.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: So going to bed by eight.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: That's you're starting to get near seven.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, what time how much sleep are you getting?
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: Uh generally speaking, you will find me in La La Lam between like twenty-one to twenty two hundred, somewhere like nine to ten.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just kind of depends.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: You're you're not sleeping much more than six hours a night.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: No, I can't.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Um physically too, uh my back just uh unfortunately just doesn't tolerate too well.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Ah, okay, that makes sense.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: You're you wake up in pain a lot of the time.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Most mornings.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a tough way to start the day.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: It's stiff and you know, it's difficult to get up sometimes.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: But you know, I find myself if I lay there, then I just feel like it gets worse.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: And we've got a great bed, it's a super expensive bed.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: It was donated to us by our previous owners, but God bless them by the way, for the bed.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Uh I appreciate that.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's still, you know, it's like my body just hurts, man, and and my back's is it's burning, it's stiff, and it, you know, I'm just like, okay.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: If I just get up, go downstairs quietly.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: Coffee's already uh set for 3.30.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, it comes on automatically.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, no wonder you're waking up.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: It's auto, bro.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: I'm spoiled right now.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: So uh coffee hits at 3 40.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: It gives me 20 minutes usually just to rehydrate.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: I like to drink a good glass of water in the morning before I before I hit my coffee.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Um, and then once that happens, it's just kind of like you know, I'm just it's a nice little start to the day.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: You know, grab the coffee and then you know, my meditation is in the tent outside, uh, which is pleasant.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, cool.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: You have a wow, a whole space specific dedicated for that.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: And it's not even in the house.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: You have a like a separate tent.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: Big big canvas.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Oregon, uh, it's an Oregon trail.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: Or no, I'm sorry, Oregon duck canvas tent.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Like a hunting tent.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's like 20 by 20 by 10.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: It's a good size, man.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Big, heavy, old school canvas tent.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: That's specifically kind of like your little sanctuary.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a meditated.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: It's got some um it's got some Buddhist traditional things in there, some um some tapestries.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: I got my meditation table that I built when I got back from Colorado um in 2020.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: And incense, the whole nine yards, man.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: It's a it's a very it's a very zen chill place to be, man.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Entire structure dedicated just for that.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: That helps a lot.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: You just like and then as you enter, it kind of will probably just shift you right into that that vibe, that headspace.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: So just like, oh, being able to drop in.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I gotta I I I did throw an exercise bike in there uh as well.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: So if I want to you know jump on the bike after I'm done, I can you know get a little exercise in.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I I added a little wood stove last year.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, yeah.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the little trash burners ones.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: Uh I added one of those last year too when it gets a little chilly out there in the winter.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Great, so you're good, you're around, man.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: You just throw some sticks in and it'll keep you warm.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: So nice.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: It definitely helps for sure.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: All the little things, man, sleep, healthy diet, exercise, you know, and then being present.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: You know, just calming the mind, centering, that man, it it all really makes a difference.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: No, it does, man.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: It really does.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: And you know, it we we do talk a lot um here on the podcast about the weight and the and the the heaviness of life, and um the backpack is full, and you know, it's but it there's a man, there is a hell of a relief uh when you take the damn thing off for uh for an extended period of time.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: You know, it's not like you're just setting it down, getting some shut eye, and then putting it back on and you know, carrying on through the day, which we do a lot of through life.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: Um so it this week I felt like it's like, hey man, like the backpack's off, it's it's stored for now, and we're just we're just healing, man.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: That's so good, man, to really truly lighten your load in such a significant way, you know, and and hopefully move forward in a similar manner.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: That's that's the other side of it, I guess.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it is okay to acknowledge when those periods of life are really heavy for us, and then like, oh, you know, and there's other times when it's not as heavy and things are a little easier, um a lot lighter, even, you know, just uh oh cool, little day pack.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: I think that's valid, Shannon.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: I do, and I think this time that something that I've really been trying to think about um since Monday, so four days in now, but um something I'm really consciously thinking about, and I will definitely for next week, is I'm gonna be very intentional on trying my very best to be very intentional on what I'm gonna put in the pack.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: There it is, yep.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Because it it can fill up quick.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Oh, I want that and I like that, and oh that's cool, and dah dah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: And it does it but to like actually be that much more thoughtful about is this worth the wait?
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I got a lot to think about, obviously, just you know, with with resigning from my current role in my current company, and um two new ventures on the way.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: We've talked uh extensively about the the um one, my my new company, and I just really need to be more mindful of you know, do I need to carry this?
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Do I legitimately need to carry this, man?
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: Like, or is it something that you just try to process, get through it in the day or maybe two days, and then move on, you know?
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: And I think I'm really gonna try focusing on uh very intentionally on doing that.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Um so I you know I I carried a lot in the eight years.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you've seen it firsthand.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: My family's experienced firsthand.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: I've experienced it, obviously.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: And I just at some level I feel like maybe that just wasn't 100% fair to some people, you know, uh in in my immediate family because it took it takes a lot from them because I'm just fucking maxed out, you know.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: There's a little spike of emotion, right?
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you just you're just fucking maxed out, dude.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: And so I'm just gonna just really try to intentionally lighten up my own load and really be intentional on do I really need to put this in the backpack?
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: This is really do I need to carry this for the next 30 days, man?
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Like I'm really gonna put some energy into that, man.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: I am.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: I'm glad to hear that, man.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Because given the big old thing you just put in your backpack, I mean, just oh, oh, I just started a new business, a whole transport company.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, you know, that's that's sizable, that's gonna take up some pretty good space, you know.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: So beyond that, and you you have this other really big thing that's gonna be added and likely even take up more space, you know.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: So already you're you're looking at, oh, how am I gonna uh fit this all in?
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Oh shit, am I already maxed out before it's even loaded?
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Before, you know, yeah.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, it's I heard somebody say one time.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: I can't remember who it was.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: It might have been Jordan Peterson, maybe.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: He said, Most of us do a job.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: Most of us are just we're just doing a job.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: And he goes, The way you know if you're just doing a job or if it's something that you truly enjoy is would you do what you're doing right now if nobody paid you to do it?
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: And I thought, God bless, man, that's heavy.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Makes a lot of sense.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: Would I do what I'm doing even if I wasn't getting paid?
- 22:28unknown: Right.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: No, because I gotta get paid.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: I gotta go make a check somewhere.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And I think his his point to um that statement was about um you know, people who do things that they are just truly designed to do, right?
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: Like for me helping people, I could do that all day, every day, and I'd be okay with that, even if I didn't get paid, because I I understand the the value in that, right?
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: This is why we're doing a load of we don't get paid to do this, we do this on our own free time.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: My transport business feels very similar to that.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: It's it's more of a passion, I think, than a job, right?
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: I don't have to do that.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Nah, you recognize the need.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: You have these friends and these associates who are all like, dang it, I need to get my vehicle up here or over there.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: You're like, oh, I wonder if I could help with that.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I and if you talk to anybody in my family, and it's probably just from my military days, but uh I can drive, man.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: Okay, I I mean you can you talk to my my daughter-in-law and my and my older son, you know, when they were up in Washington, and you know, we left we left Nevada, um, hooked up the the trailer.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: They were living up in um um Bremerton, which is really north up there in um uh Washington.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: I drove from here all the way up to Bremerton, um, just you know, stops along the way to you know use the latrine or grab snacks or drinks.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: I drove all the way up there.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: We got up there, it was in the evening, we left early in the morning.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: Um I just said, let's get this thing packed.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Like I'm not digging, I'm I can't I'm not gonna sleep in your um townhouse.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: You know, you don't got any furniture much, right?
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: So that night we show up, we we get out, and I just start slamming the trailer, dude.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: So we packed their trailer, get them completely out of their um uh dwelling, pack everything up, get everything shut, and back on the highway.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: So I'm on my way back.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: I stopped outside of um somewhere in the middle of Washington, and uh told my son, I go, Hey, can you need you to drive?
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: I need I need a nap.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: You know, he said, Oh, okay.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Two hours later, that wasn't much.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: He pulls over, he's like, I'm not comfortable driving.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: We're gonna come up to this mountain area.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: I'm not comfortable with this and that.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: I was like, Oh, yeah, whatever.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: So I get up, go in the store, get a little caffeination, get some sunflower seeds.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: That's my go-to, by the way.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Long drive, sunflower seeds are really good.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: Keep your brain open, awake, actually.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Drop in the driver's seat, and get after it, bruh.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Um, so I drove all the way to uh Susanville.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: Pulled into Susanville, something to jack in a box there, got a quick bite to eat, not very healthy, but it is what it is.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: We grabbed some chow.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: My son said, Okay, I think I'm comfortable.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: I'll drive from here.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Uh so I started taking another nap, and then uh by the time we got to Reno, uh, it was kind of trafficy.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: My son was a little nervous, so put back in the driver's seat and headed home, man.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we turned and burned that uh that entire trip from from Fallon all the way up to North Washington and back.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: So I can get after it.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you might have to start doing that regularly.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good thing, because this is what you just signed up for.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: That's what I voluntarily signed up for, you know what I mean?
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: But this time at least we'll get paid a little bit.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: So it makes it a little easier, but yeah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: So you I mean Shannon is correct.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: I got a couple big things coming, but I'm just gonna work on being intentional, man.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:09unknown: Good.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: That's where I'm at.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, great.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's been good.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: You'll keep me in check.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: I know you will.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Nah, man, not my job.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, I look forward to Shannon.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: He he's the guy that calls me out.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: He's like, You sure you sure you're sure your head's on straight right now?
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: You sure you're thinking about that correctly?
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, just outside perspective.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: I need that.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: But when I start getting nervous.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: Shannon said a couple times, he's like, I uh dude, that's not even my business, and I'm nervous for you, man.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: My my wife asks me all the time, she's like, I don't understand how this doesn't bother you.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: And I go, well, it's not that it doesn't bother me, it's maybe it's just the way I think about it.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: And I I'm not gonna lie to our listeners or to you or anyone else, but after I got the truck, signed all the docs, dotted line was signed, and it went off to finance and approved, and you're like, hey, come pick your shit up, basically.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: The next morning, um, you know, I was dealing with that, I was dealing with turning in my notice at uh at my current company, and I just had a lot on on the mind.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: And I I woke up the next morning and I I get out of bed, I'm sitting on the edge of the bed, man, and for the first time in a very, very long time, man, I had the little bit of the fear hit me, and uh it was like, What the fuck are you doing?
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: We're good.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: It was quick, yeah.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: It hit me though, it was like as soon as I stepped foot on the floor, man, I was like, What the fuck did I do?
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: You know, when you had a similar uh experience to that many years ago, when you just I'm not gonna stay on a whim, but when you just decided, you know what?
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: We're gonna move to Hawaii.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: We we love Hawaii.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: 100% things were kind of just worn out for you here, and you're just needing a big change, something different, and you love the island, and so you you know you said F it, man.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: We're we're going, we're gone.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: We're we're gonna move to Hawaii.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Like, holy moly.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Again, I got a little nervous for you.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: I think uh just before shipping out to Hawaii, you got a similar little gut check, like, oh shit, well what are we doing?
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: And that worked out, worked out well, and it uh it was literally life-changing.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: Uh the big island of Hawaii and the community, um, all the Hawaiians out there and all of the people who reside there, man.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: Uh God bless you all because it it changed my it changed me.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I saw that.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean I've I've yeah, that's a different time, different story, because we're running short on time here in a couple minutes.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I did have the gut check.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: And uh it was quick.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Good to know.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: Good to know.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: I I'd be more concerned for you if you did not.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: It was quick, and I just said, eh, is what it is.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: Too late now.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: And that's usually a pretty easy fallback.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: Well, what are you gonna do?
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Uh it's over, bro.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: It's in the book.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: So you might as well get your ass in gear, right?
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: So I got up and you know, went downstairs and started my routine, and you know, I was sitting in my office, and I was like, okay, let's just think about this strategically.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: Let's let's think through this.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: What's your plan?
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Let's just go through it.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: You know, and that faded pretty quick, but yeah, I I did have to check.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: And uh thank you for that.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: That r is a really valuable way to cope with fear a lot of the time.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Is if I mean emotions can be quite intense and often overwhelming, and they can very quickly even override logic.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: We can logically know something, but then if we get hit by this intense emotion, um, contrary to the logic, the emotion often wins.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: But to be able to whew, okay, take a moment, take a breath, return to the logic of the situation.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, here we are.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: And what next?
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: To strategically think about that.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Is one of your strengths, is just, I mean, you're almost tactical in how you think about your things.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: You just tick, tick, tick very orderly, very clear and concise.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: You I you probably more so than most.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: A lot of folks, or at least I know me and a lot of others I know, you know, it's it's not so orderly like it's almost like journaling, or maybe that's what contributes because you do journal a lot.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And so if you can you write things out, write your thoughts out, then maybe that structures your thinking more that way.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: So when you just sit down and start thinking about things or putting things down on paper, and that whole process is just very orderly and structured and really helps get you through some of these more challenging themes that are like, ooh, kind of scary, but oh I I I can I can figure this out, I can check down this and and go.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's um I'm very I'm very blessed in a lot of ways.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Just I I've had a lot of I've got a lot of life experience uh to fall back on, and I think it helps tremendously, you know, because there has been a lot of difficult times and a lot of tough things.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: And um it it does callus your mind at some level, and it callouses you to endure a lot at one time, and I think you know, having that gut check, I think that's just a friendly reminder.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: Hey, you made a decision, you're in it, now you can sit here and let this completely overwhelm you, which you can do that very easily.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: Or acknowledge it, okay.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: I feel it, I I I feel it, I'm it's registered, okay.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: All right, now what?
- 32:30SPEAKER_02: That's that's kind of how it happens for me is it comes in, I feel it, I sit with it for a sec.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: I'm like, okay, I'm gonna get up now, I'm gonna get dressed, I'm gonna go get my coffee, get my water, I'm gonna sit down, take some breaths, let's look at this, don't make it worse than it needs to be.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: Get an action plan and work it.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: Action plan, battle plan, now it, what's next?
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: What's next?
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Return to the reality of it.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: Work your plan.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: What's the worst case?
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: Fails.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, I failed a lot in 53 years, bro.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: Okay, I have.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: This is a great point.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: You described a moment ago, you even use the word callous, like callous mind, because when we go through a lot of challenging things in life and we encounter some difficulties, when we get our asses kicked, you know, kind of back to this pipe, when we are used to a lot of weight that's, you know, uh, Trudgeon, you know, and then it does develop that ability to, you know, I mean, what does a callus do?
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: It like the the skin's not so sensitive.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: You can do more pull-ups, you can do, you know, it's not gonna you can play guitar a lot longer because your fingertips aren't hurting because they're nice and callous and stuff.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Similarly, great analogy with your mind.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: If you've built up the mental toughness or fortitude to deal with these more uncomfortable situations, instead of spinning out and letting that fear get the best of you, you just take that breath, acknowledge it, have acceptance for, yeah, of course I'm nervous around this.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: This is a big old bite I just turned off.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: And like, yep, okay, well, fair.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: And and now what's next?
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: What's next, man?
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you just gotta work through it.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: Well, the good news is this will be to be continued.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: Ah, yeah, you uh yeah, we will see.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: It'll be to be continued, and um, it's a it's a good good ending to uh a good episode, and it'll be a great place to pick up here uh in our next episode for sure.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: And it's been a it's been a good time.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: Appreciate you, Shannon.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, man.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Appreciate your insight, and um, I definitely appreciate you being by my side for you know a long time.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you've been here a long time, man.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: I appreciate the that more than anything.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: Um for our listening audience out there, um 988's out there, uh, if you need someone to talk to, you can call text 247, uh reach out to them.

- 34:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Well, uh for today, this is Michael Seahorn.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: And Shannon Morrow.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: And we'll catch you on our next podcast up unloaded.
