- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi. It's Adam here.
- 0:40And you're about to listen to a alcohol reduction hypnosis
- 0:45session. Now it's linked to wine, but it
- 0:48doesn't have to be wine. It just happened to be the case
- 0:51with this particular client who had got into a habit of drinking
- 0:55several times during the week and quite often would drink a
- 1:00bottle of wine during weekday, and they wanted to change that.
- 1:04Now, they weren't addicted, they weren't an alcoholic, they just
- 1:07wanted to have a better relationship with alcohol than
- 1:11what they had been currently experiencing.
- 1:14This uses what's called a pattern interrupt.
- 1:18A pattern interrupt is when you introduce something new or
- 1:21surprising to what is normally an autopilot decision.
- 1:25And now for a lot of people that drink, they know exactly what
- 1:28they drink, where the drink is, they know how they pour the
- 1:32drink into a glass, and they can do all of that on autopilot
- 1:35without really thinking. So if you introduce a few things
- 1:38that then create surprises or inconsistencies, that becomes a
- 1:43patent interrupt to develop new habits and changes.
- 1:47Now, this particular client's favorite wine was Chardonnay.
- 1:52She would quite often drink a bottle on a weeknight, but she
- 1:57absolutely could not stand a different variety of white wine
- 2:01called Pinot Grigio. She couldn't stand it, didn't
- 2:04connect with her taste buds, she didn't like it.
- 2:07And what we do in the session and then she followed up and did
- 2:10this in real life, was to buy 2 bottles of wine in her local
- 2:15supermarket, a Chardonnay that she would normally have, and
- 2:18then the Pinot Grigio that she couldn't stand.
- 2:21That even if she was given it as a gift, she would not drink it.
- 2:25Now that was important. What you'll hear in the session
- 2:28and then what she did in reality is pour the Chardonnay away.
- 2:31That's a surprising thing. It creates the brain to think,
- 2:35why am I doing this? Because normally I would drink
- 2:37this. So it sets a new relationship
- 2:39that they can take. It or leave?
- 2:40It and then pours the Pinot Grigio into the Chardonnay
- 2:44bottle and puts it in the exact location that it would normally
- 2:48be. Now here's the interesting
- 2:49thing. When the client then goes back
- 2:52to that wine on autopilot, it will take a second or so and
- 2:56then she'll realize this looks like the Chardonnay but it
- 3:00contains the wine that she doesn't want.
- 3:02And each time that thought followed by oh I don't want that
- 3:06takes place, it's interrupting the pattern.
- 3:10Now this is a self enforced boundary.
- 3:13Of course she could just go to the supermarket and get a
- 3:16different new bottle of Chardonnay, but that isn't the
- 3:21point. The point is that she knows it's
- 3:23a self created boundary and that she is choosing to stick to this
- 3:28boundary to have a better relationship with wine.
- 3:31But it's easier to do that if the friction is well, you've got
- 3:34to go to the store and buy a new one.
- 3:37It's it that would take 15 minutes or so.
- 3:40Now that friction is enough to break out of any, let's say,
- 3:44compulsions or cravings or instant urges.
- 3:49If you've got that friction, if you don't have that friction
- 3:52there, then before they know it, they've already had a sip and
- 3:55then it feels like it's too late.
- 3:57So by creating a patent interrupt where the perception
- 4:00collides with reality, it then gives them a window.
- 4:03Now what they really wanted is to have the occasional drink in
- 4:06social situations on Friday or Saturday and you'll hear those
- 4:09suggestions. At the core, this is a hypnosis
- 4:13session all about renegotiating a relationship with alcohol
- 4:18based on what they actually want rather than what they just have
- 4:21been doing. So if you can connect to that
- 4:23idea, you might get some value from this session.
- 4:26But there might be certain things that don't quite fit you.
- 4:28It might be that you love Pinot Grigio and don't really like
- 4:31Chardonnay. Or it might be that you don't
- 4:33drink wine at all and you drink beer or a spirit.
- 4:36At its core, it's about changing the relationship, so feel free
- 4:40to replace anything with things that are more relevant for you,
- 4:43or just ignore any suggestions that don't quite resonate.
- 4:45But if you do like the idea of having a bespoke session created
- 4:49specifically for you, there will be a link in the description
- 4:52where you can schedule a free consultation call.
- 4:55We'll have a chat over Zoom, and who knows, we might end up
- 4:58working together rather than you just listening to a recording.
- 5:02For now, though, you might really get some value from this
- 5:03session, even though it was created for someone else.
- 5:06So find a quiet, comfortable place where you're not going to
- 5:09be distracted or disturbed. Relax and.
- 5:12Enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:37you breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 5:43relaxation. And as you exhale, feel a
- 5:51wonderful feeling of release, as if any tension, stress, worries,
- 6:00they're starting to leave your body.
- 6:03Every time you breathe out, feel your eyelids getting heavier and
- 6:10more relaxed and allow yourself to position your body in such a
- 6:15way that makes it easy to get more and more comfortably
- 6:24relaxed. Now in fact, think of a colour
- 6:31that represents pure relaxation, maybe a bright colour like
- 6:36sunshine, and imagine breathing in that colour of sunshine, a
- 6:42wonderful feeling of relaxation. And as you exhale, just allow
- 6:51anything to be released that would be useful to release any
- 6:57tension, any stress, any worries.
- 7:03Just imagine it leaving your body like shadows in your
- 7:09outward breath. Breathing in relaxation,
- 7:15exhaling tension. Each breath takes you deeper and
- 7:22deeper. Relaxed.
- 7:25In fact, the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel and
- 7:31the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 7:38As your body relaxes, your imagination awakens and I want
- 7:43you to imagine a wall of memories.
- 7:48You remember those old pin boards?
- 7:52Just imagine something like that in your imagination but filled
- 7:56with memories of view beside water, walks by a river or a
- 8:04stream, looking out on a lake and see memories of view on the
- 8:15beautiful beaches. Allow one memory to start to
- 8:25become more prominent. You on a beach looking very
- 8:31relaxed. As you focus on that memory,
- 8:36imagine floating up and going inside that memory.
- 8:44Feel what it would feel like to be on that beach, wearing
- 8:50whatever clothing is appropriate to be on that beach.
- 8:59Imagine feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin, hear the
- 9:05gentle breaking of waves on the shore.
- 9:09And because it's your memory, just imagine no one else is
- 9:15around a private beach just for you.
- 9:23And perhaps you could imagine a lounger, a blanket, perhaps a
- 9:29cabana, a kind of place on that beach where you could deeply
- 9:34relax now. And I want you to assess there
- 9:44in that moment of relaxation that you don't need alcohol to
- 9:53feel relaxed. There is a combination lock of
- 10:00relaxation that exists for you, a certain amount of muscle
- 10:06tension or relaxation, a certain way of breathing, a certain pace
- 10:13of inner dialogue that enables you to relax with or without
- 10:23alcohol. And I want you to notice how
- 10:31throughout your life you've created unconscious rules as to
- 10:39what you drink, when you drink, and how much you drink.
- 10:48I want you to get a sense that throughout your life, drinking
- 10:54in the daytime has been the exception and never the rule.
- 11:00There is something about daytime that means the same alcohol
- 11:06loses its desire. It just isn't appealing for you.
- 11:16And I want you to connect to that feeling that alcohol exists
- 11:24and you have no desire for it. And when you can connect to that
- 11:31feeling, let me know about nodding your head.
- 11:38That's it. I want you to get a feeling that
- 11:46alcohol was never an addiction, never a compulsion, never
- 11:55something you would dependent on.
- 11:57In fact, for most of your life, it isn't.
- 12:04Even take. It or leave it.
- 12:07It's just leave it and want you to get a sense that only a tiny
- 12:16part of your life had a. Place for.
- 12:21Alcohol to exist. And even then, it wasn't all
- 12:29alcohol. As I countdown from 5 to 1, I
- 12:36want you to imagine drifting off into a dreamlike sleep and
- 12:42imagine that you're back in your own home. 5 eyelids getting
- 12:49heavier, 4 jaw getting looser, 3 just feeling relaxed in your
- 12:55neck and your shoulders. 2 arms and legs feel limp, loose and
- 13:00heavier. And then one drifting off on
- 13:03that beach into a dreamlike sleep where you could imagine
- 13:08being in your own home on a weekday night.
- 13:14And I want you to imagine that even if it's the evening, you
- 13:20have no desire for spirits, you have no desire for a cocktail,
- 13:32there is no desire for certain types of white wine like Pinot
- 13:38Grigio. All.
- 13:42Of this is evidence that you are already discerning about what
- 13:50you drink and when you drink and how much you drink.
- 14:00You can't recall a weekday evening when you had three
- 14:04bottles of wine. And I want you to get a feeling
- 14:10that there is just one final frontier, one final update to
- 14:26your own internal boundaries. I want you to get a sense that
- 14:33for a while you've been believing a false belief.
- 14:42You've believed on a weekday that somehow you needed you
- 14:50needed a glass of wine to help you relax on a weekday evening.
- 14:59And that was never true. Because when someone needs
- 15:05something, they can't live without it.
- 15:14What is true is that there was a period of time where you wanted
- 15:19it, but you didn't even want it that badly.
- 15:30So let's go on a thought experiment.
- 15:34I want you to imagine what it would feel like to go into your
- 15:42regular supermarket and to buy your favorite type of wine.
- 15:52Maybe a Chardonnay or something else.
- 15:57And then perhaps a wine that you feel a sense of revulsion or
- 16:04disgust, The kind of wine that makes you not want it at all.
- 16:13And maybe that's a bottle of Pinot Grigio.
- 16:19I want you to imagine buying both.
- 16:23And when you return, let's do a ritual.
- 16:28I want you to imagine opening the bottle of Chardonnay and
- 16:36intentionally pouring it down the sink, linking it to the idea
- 16:46that this now creates a line in the sand where something has
- 16:52changed. And once you've imagined pouring
- 16:57it down the sink, the bottle is now empty.
- 17:01Let me know by nodding your head.
- 17:07That's it. Now imagine opening the bottle
- 17:13of Pinot Grigio and pouring that wine, maybe with a funnel, into
- 17:20the bottle of Chardonnay. So now the bottle of Chardonnay
- 17:25contains a wine that you do not like.
- 17:31And I want you to imagine closing the bottle, maybe
- 17:36screwing it shut, maybe putting a bottle top on it and putting
- 17:41it back exactly where it would have been kept if it was that
- 17:48bottle of Chardonnay. Maybe the fridge, maybe
- 17:52somewhere else. And I want you to imagine
- 17:56looking at it in that location, seeing it as Chardonnay, but
- 18:03knowing it's the Pinot Grigio inside.
- 18:09And I want you to see what thoughts come up.
- 18:15Thoughts like I don't want that. I would never drink that.
- 18:23But I want you to give yourself permission that during a weekday
- 18:29you have full permission to go to the supermarket to buy
- 18:37whatever wine you want to pour it, to drink it.
- 18:43But the price of admission is to drink the wine you don't like
- 18:50first. Not to punish you, but as a way
- 19:00of you assessing how important or not it is to drink wine.
- 19:13And you might be surprised that every now and then you open that
- 19:19refrigerator on autopilot. You see the wine and then you
- 19:25recall it contains the wine you don't like, and so the fridge
- 19:35door closes and you will feel a sense of temporary confusion or
- 19:45uncertainty. Which is wonderful because this
- 19:51is where new neural pathways are formed when new habits are
- 19:58built. And I don't know if you will
- 20:02pour yourself a refreshing glass of water, or have a hot drink,
- 20:13or even a juice, or perhaps feel no desire to drink anything at
- 20:20all and just do something else instead.
- 20:27Not because you have to, but because you're choosing to.
- 20:34Because if the price of admission is to simply drink
- 20:38wine you don't like, and you're not willing to do that, it means
- 20:46that you were never that bothered about drinking wine
- 20:51anyway. And I want you to imagine maybe
- 20:56it will be days or weeks until you stop even looking in the
- 21:02refrigerator. Before you build new habits.
- 21:09Before it just doesn't matter anymore.
- 21:19And now switch your attention to the weekends.
- 21:25In the same way you had a false belief that you needed wine to
- 21:29relax, you're also carrying a belief that you need wine to
- 21:36enjoy the weekends as a reward. And I want you to imagine just
- 21:46for the next few weeks, just to see how easy it is to find
- 21:53alternatives like alcohol free drinks, refreshing soft drinks
- 22:01or just water. So if it's a weekend evening,
- 22:10instead of a bottle, it's a glass.
- 22:13The price of admission to have a glass of what you do want is a
- 22:20glass of what you don't want. And if you're not willing to pay
- 22:26that price of admission, it means that wine is not that
- 22:34necessary for you. If your unconscious agrees, let
- 22:42me know by nodding your head. And I want you to imagine being
- 22:51in the kind of place you might be on a weekend, maybe a
- 22:55restaurant, maybe a bar, maybe a guest in someone else's home.
- 23:04And just remember that it is you giving yourself this rule simply
- 23:12as a way to change neural pathways that have been repeated
- 23:23hundreds, if not thousands of times.
- 23:27And sometimes all it takes to break a pattern is to do
- 23:32something different. I want you to think back perhaps
- 23:3914 or 15 years ago. There was a time when you were a
- 23:44smoker, and then there was a time that you weren't.
- 23:51And notice how quickly your brain went from doing certain
- 23:57things to doing other things. There was a point in time where
- 24:04you wanted something badly and then didn't want it anymore.
- 24:10It would have been a time that you would have bought cigarettes
- 24:16and then a time when you didn't. There would have been a time
- 24:21when you have been offered and then accepted, and then a time
- 24:26when you were offered and you declined.
- 24:30I want you to think about how subtle those differences are,
- 24:35and yet those tiny differences made all the difference at its
- 24:43core. Something you did want, you no
- 24:50longer wanted, not because the thing changed, but because of
- 24:58how you thought about that thing.
- 25:04I want you to get the sense that wine is not relaxation wine.
- 25:12Wine is a depressant. It can feel like relaxation, but
- 25:21if alcohol was so good at relaxing, people would sleep
- 25:25better after alcohol and they sleep worse.
- 25:35And if alcohol was crucial to fun and enjoyment, why is it
- 25:43that so many arguments, conflicts, aggression sometimes
- 25:50are linked to those times when people are drinking?
- 25:56I want you to update your own thoughts on what alcohol truly
- 26:02means for you now and the kind of relationship you want with
- 26:11alcohol. And imagine yourself in the next
- 26:14few days and weeks. Notice what you're doing
- 26:21differently, what you're doing on an average weeknight That
- 26:29means. You can.
- 26:32Dial down those thoughts of work without needing a glass of wine.
- 26:40I want you to imagine yourself on a weekend, enjoying perhaps
- 26:45an alcohol free beer or a nice soft drink, and still having
- 26:51just as much fun, just as much connection.
- 27:01And every time you think of drinking on a weekday or a
- 27:06weekend, and every time you think if that's what it takes to
- 27:13drink, I just don't want it, you will feel a sense of liberation
- 27:21and pride that you are already changing your neural pathways so
- 27:28that in the future, drinking feels not like a habit or a
- 27:37necessity, purely an option. And one of those options is not
- 27:47to drink at all. And I want you to get a sense
- 27:52that this, this makes wine, if you do drink, more enjoyable,
- 28:00knowing that you don't need it if you choose to drink it.
- 28:09Once those updated thoughts, ideas, stories and beliefs have
- 28:13changed and you're ready to step into a new identity, an identity
- 28:21of discernment and freedom, let me know by nodding your head.
- 28:30And then drift back onto that beach and just imagine someone
- 28:41offers you a glass of wine and think how easy it would be to
- 28:47say no. And then imagine yourself on an
- 28:53evening and a thought pops into your head somewhere in the
- 29:01world. It's 9:00 in the morning and I
- 29:07don't drink wine at 9:00 in the morning.
- 29:14And as you hold that thought, you realise you are closer than
- 29:19ever before to a new relationship with alcohol, a
- 29:23relationship on your terms that aligns with your priorities,
- 29:31that takes your life in the direction that you desire.
- 29:37And as you hold that thought, it's time to drift back through
- 29:40that memory on the wall, back into your body.
- 29:46And very soon I will count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 29:51But for now, take a deep breath in through your nose and out
- 29:58through your nose. Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle
- 30:02your toes, connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I
- 30:07now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 30:12Starting to count 123 waking up 456.
- 30:17More alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 30:20Open your eyes 910 Wide awake, Wide awake.
