- 1:08Speaker 3: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:11Speaker 3: that makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It is
- 1:15Speaker 3: our favorite day of the week because we are very
- 1:17Speaker 3: lucky and we get our team together to celebrate you
- 1:20Speaker 3: the incredible She's on the Money community. The only person
- 1:24Speaker 3: I have here with me today is actually Miss Jess Grici,
- 1:27Speaker 3: who is as always going to be sharing her money
- 1:29Speaker 3: wins and confessions. Beck's not here, but she did leave
- 1:32Speaker 3: us with some broke tips which I will share with you. Guys.
- 1:35Speaker 3: We're going to be helping to answer a money dilemma
- 1:38Speaker 3: which is all about how to prepare for dropping down
- 1:41Speaker 3: to one income from maternity leave and something that you
- 1:44Speaker 3: slid into our DMS about this week. Is it a
- 1:47Speaker 3: bad idea to prioritize travel as a money goal over
- 1:50Speaker 3: buying a house? Mister Gerricci, Before we get there, how
- 1:54Speaker 3: was your week?
- 1:55Speaker 4: My week has been so good. You've seen in the
- 1:58Speaker 4: office I have been trawling the Amazon.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you're not even like in the office doing it.
- 2:04Speaker 3: You're all over our group chat as well, like you
- 2:07Speaker 3: are trying to influence me to write all the stuff
- 2:09Speaker 3: that you're buying because you've had it in your cart
- 2:11Speaker 3: for so long.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Genuinely, you guys, now, I love Amazon. We've been working
- 2:14Speaker 4: with them. The big deal days are on and I
- 2:16Speaker 4: feel like it's such a good time to be buying
- 2:19Speaker 4: stuff for Christmas, because you know, I love an early
- 2:20Speaker 4: Christmas buy to put.
- 2:21Speaker 3: It on percent and an early group message like why
- 2:24Speaker 3: are you messaging us at seven thirty with like, hey, guys,
- 2:26Speaker 3: did you see this? No, we didn't, jest, we haven't
- 2:29Speaker 3: sat in front of our computer yet, but you are
- 2:31Speaker 3: doing work for us absolutely.
- 2:33Speaker 4: And I've pulled out a list I thought I could
- 2:34Speaker 4: share with you a couple of the really good deals
- 2:36Speaker 4: I thought people might like.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yes, I mean I've seen them in group chat already,
- 2:39Speaker 3: but share with the community absolutely.
- 2:43Speaker 4: All right. First, one big one for anyone who knows me.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Ninja slashy. Yeah, thirty percent off.
- 2:47Speaker 3: What's the Ninja creamy though, because I've decided the Ninja
- 2:50Speaker 3: slushy you can have at your house, but you can
- 2:52Speaker 3: come to my house for the creamy is on all
- 2:54Speaker 3: ninja stuff.
- 2:55Speaker 4: It is on stuff sory.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I just realized I got that wrong. Ninjaslashy forty percent off?
- 2:59Speaker 3: Oh okay injore creamy. Okay, that's a good idea. Is
- 3:03Speaker 3: the Ninja creamy swirl included in that? Because like I
- 3:06Speaker 3: have been going down what you could say is a
- 3:09Speaker 3: massive rabbit hole. Yeah, and I need that in my house.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Oh, it looks incredible. It is also on say, I
- 3:14Speaker 4: don't remember the percentage.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Was also included. A deal is a deal.
- 3:18Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
- 3:19Speaker 3: What else have you got?
- 3:20Speaker 4: Robo rock vacuums up to sixty percent off?
- 3:22Speaker 3: Sorry sixty I know that people are basically giving them
- 3:24Speaker 3: away for free, like and I shouldn't say that because
- 3:26Speaker 3: I should be like put twenty four hours between you
- 3:28Speaker 3: and you're spending. But like brooking our team. She's like
- 3:32Speaker 3: the queen of robot vacuums. Like if she walked into
- 3:35Speaker 3: your house, I think the robot vacuum would come up
- 3:37Speaker 3: to her and be like, oh all hell, robot vacuum queen.
- 3:41Speaker 3: But like, sixty percent is a good deal.
- 3:43Speaker 4: It is a really good deal. And the sale is
- 3:44Speaker 4: on until the thirteenth, so you do you have the
- 3:46Speaker 4: time to put twenty four hours and you're spending.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Which reminder you absolutely should. But like, sorry, are you
- 3:52Speaker 3: Christmas shopping already as well? Literally this year, I just
- 3:54Speaker 3: feel the pressure. I don't know why. Why am I
- 3:57Speaker 3: feeling the pressure in October? I be buying Christmas presents now.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I think it's good because you can get ready early,
- 4:03Speaker 4: get it done, I get it on sale, save some money.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Someone in my family wanted to Kindle eighteen percent off
- 4:08Speaker 4: done and dusted, Lego set to twenty percent off if
- 4:10Speaker 4: you've got kids, and.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Then buying, do you plow this Christmas as well? Perfect?
- 4:14Speaker 3: Get on there's Eve, it's on sale. Oh my god.
- 4:15Speaker 3: I think that's genius. But then also, sorry, good a
- 4:18Speaker 3: reminder that a lot of sales don't happen closer to Christmas.
- 4:22Speaker 3: So if you're trying to snag a deal, maybe now's
- 4:24Speaker 3: the time to shine.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't want to be fighting with people in
- 4:27Speaker 4: the aisles. I don't want to be stressing a week
- 4:28Speaker 4: before Christmas. I'm going to get it all done now.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Yeap, genius, I'll still be stressing. But that's okay. Let's
- 4:33Speaker 3: put some info in the show notes because I know
- 4:35Speaker 3: that people are going to be interested in that. How
- 4:36Speaker 3: do you I love this. I am good. I'm live,
- 4:39Speaker 3: laugh loving my way into October. I will say that
- 4:43Speaker 3: it has been such a chaotic period of time for us.
- 4:46Speaker 3: We have sold our house, like that's you know, I
- 4:50Speaker 3: guess all news now, but like just going through this
- 4:53Speaker 3: process is just so stressful. We're talking about okay, well,
- 4:56Speaker 3: now settlements coming up soon, like obviously not that soon,
- 4:59Speaker 3: but in a a month or two, and I just go,
- 5:02Speaker 3: We've got to get everything out of the house. Where
- 5:03Speaker 3: are we going with that? What does storage look like?
- 5:06Speaker 3: And doing that with a toddler in the house hard?
- 5:08Speaker 3: I bet it's not just it's the mental load, I think. Yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 3: And I'm just and I have a fantastic husband, please
- 5:14Speaker 3: don't get me wrong, we're both sharing that. But I'm
- 5:16Speaker 3: always like, low key, just don't want to do it.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Moving such a big thing. Yeah.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And I was talking to a couple of girls in
- 5:24Speaker 3: the office about it yesterday and I was like, oh, yeah,
- 5:25Speaker 3: it's not too hard. And then I was like, oh,
- 5:27Speaker 3: the plastic drawer in my kitchen that I keep avoiding, Yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 3: should I go through that? Like do you know what
- 5:34Speaker 3: I mean? It's like the shed. Do I have to
- 5:36Speaker 3: do this shed? Or do I like bunch everything into
- 5:39Speaker 3: boxes so that when we move into a new house,
- 5:42Speaker 3: like I just reopen it and go, wow, now I'll
- 5:44Speaker 3: deal with it, or just currently deal with it so
- 5:46Speaker 3: that future me has a better time.
- 5:48Speaker 4: I'm a fan of doing it pre move personally. It's
- 5:51Speaker 4: less things too. It feels redundant to move it and
- 5:53Speaker 4: then color it, you know, if I.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Need it though, Like I don't need two can openers,
- 5:58Speaker 3: but we have two can openers. Yeah, which one do
- 6:01Speaker 3: you pick that are you paying? Yeah, b you paying favorites?
- 6:05Speaker 3: And does my husband agree with that? Being the nicer
- 6:07Speaker 3: can opener?
- 6:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Have you seen the people on TikTok. They go through
- 6:10Speaker 4: their mug collection. They have a one in, one out.
- 6:13Speaker 4: This is so funny.
- 6:14Speaker 3: We're TikTok mugs and you.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Just end up with like heaps of them for no reason.
- 6:20Speaker 4: They had too many. They're like, that's not me. I
- 6:22Speaker 4: do not own enough mugs.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Oh, there you go.
- 6:24Speaker 4: But they were like, we need to implement a one in,
- 6:25Speaker 4: one out rule, and so they make these tiktoks where
- 6:28Speaker 4: if they want to buy a new mug, it's like
- 6:30Speaker 4: Survivor and they take turns like drafting there until there's
- 6:34Speaker 4: one mug left that they get rid of it and
- 6:35Speaker 4: they bring the new. As I'm explaining, I go, wow,
- 6:38Speaker 4: that's very dull. But would you please send that Yes?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Absolutely, I love it.
- 6:42Speaker 3: I'm on the side of TikTok. I think it's Oregon
- 6:45Speaker 3: fishing TikTok oh niche, yes, but let me just let
- 6:49Speaker 3: me pitch this to you again, completely niche side of TikTok,
- 6:53Speaker 3: which tells me that you and I have very different
- 6:55Speaker 3: tasting content, so it's not just fishing videos. In fact,
- 6:59Speaker 3: this guy gets you and you're watching an Oregon fishing video.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Before you know, you're watching an Oregon fishing video, and
- 7:04Speaker 3: then you're too far in. He actually catfishes men online
- 7:09Speaker 3: who have pictures of fish in their profile pictures, right,
- 7:14Speaker 3: And then it's kind of wholesome because he doesn't like
- 7:16Speaker 3: do anything bad, but he you know, lures them in
- 7:20Speaker 3: by asking what their favorite fishing locations are, and then
- 7:23Speaker 3: his videos are him reviewing the fishing locations.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Oh, I love that. I like this sounds like it
- 7:27Speaker 4: could be a little bit of fair really, And.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Then he's just got this way of like editing the
- 7:32Speaker 3: videos that you're like, wow, he brings back all of
- 7:34Speaker 3: these like old school videos and clips that like feel
- 7:38Speaker 3: nostyle duke. Then you're watching them, and then all of
- 7:40Speaker 3: a sudden you're watching an Oregon fishing video again. You're like,
- 7:43Speaker 3: damn me, got me. And you know when you like
- 7:46Speaker 3: watch one or two videos and then all of a sudden,
- 7:49Speaker 3: that's all your fat, that's your entire feed.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Yeah, don't send it to me. I don't want to
- 7:52Speaker 4: be on fishing target.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I mean to send it so many of them. All right,
- 7:56Speaker 3: all right, all right, speaking of online, we have an
- 7:58Speaker 3: online at five star review that I would love to
- 8:01Speaker 3: share with you. Are you ready to hear it? Okay,
- 8:04Speaker 3: So this one comes from KDEZ Investing Diaries, Keep them coming.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Five stars. I loved the episode with the and brook
- 8:12Speaker 3: going through Brooks investment portfolio and her strategy. Would love
- 8:16Speaker 3: to hear more things like this.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Okay, that away for later. That was a really good episode,
- 8:21Speaker 4: but it's a great job.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I picked that five star review because, Hi, guys, if
- 8:25Speaker 3: you've got an investment strategy that you're willing to share
- 8:27Speaker 3: on the podcast and we can go through with a
- 8:29Speaker 3: fine tooth comb, submit a money diary via our website
- 8:33Speaker 3: because I would love to hear it and like, there's
- 8:35Speaker 3: nothing juicier and being like, what do you own Jess?
- 8:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you own it.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And Jess and I are currently in the same hole
- 8:41Speaker 3: with the same biopharmaceutical stock that Brooke and I were
- 8:44Speaker 3: talking about that we took a punt on. But I
- 8:46Speaker 3: would say that Jess has been better at it because
- 8:49Speaker 3: I invested in it and stopped and then Jess is
- 8:51Speaker 3: consistently invested in it and you're not in a bad
- 8:54Speaker 3: position with them anymore.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I'm up a decent amount, but also I am down.
- 9:00Speaker 4: My anticipation is once they finished the trials, that's when
- 9:04Speaker 4: you'll see.
- 9:04Speaker 3: See I'm still committed as well, assuming.
- 9:07Speaker 4: The trial goes well. Obviously, all investin contains risk, not
- 9:09Speaker 4: financial advice.
- 9:10Speaker 3: That past performance is not indicative of future performance, absolutely,
- 9:14Speaker 3: which I've learned because the past performance of this stock
- 9:16Speaker 3: was amazing and then she went down. Anyway, Miss Jess Gerchi,
- 9:21Speaker 3: tell me about our community. I want to know what
- 9:23Speaker 3: are your favorite money wins from the week.
- 9:25Speaker 4: So firstly, this week, I've got a money win from Sus,
- 9:27Speaker 4: who said she went to a quiz night on Friday
- 9:30Speaker 4: to support her local score. She spent four bucks on
- 9:33Speaker 4: raffle tickets. She won the major prize, which was two
- 9:36Speaker 4: Pennicott Wilderness Cruise tickets worth four hundred bucks.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 9:39Speaker 4: And I don't know what a Pennicott Wilderness cruise is,
- 9:41Speaker 4: but it sounds fun and four dollars is a bargain.
- 9:43Speaker 3: All I heard is that you paid four dollars for
- 9:46Speaker 3: a four hundred dollars thing, and that's a money win
- 9:48Speaker 3: in my eyes. Wild done, Sus.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Next I've got a money in from Lisa, who said
- 9:52Speaker 4: it's a big day for her money win. She went
- 9:54Speaker 4: to the local tafe as a nail model for her
- 9:57Speaker 4: friend's daughter and got a full set of acrylic nails
- 10:00Speaker 4: for ten dollars, and she said she did a great job.
- 10:02Speaker 4: She put in a little photo they look very cute.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Oh cute, very.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Nice, and then she said money loss. She got a
- 10:08Speaker 4: rejection letter for a higher role at work.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Unfortunately, but that's okay because you put your hat in
- 10:13Speaker 3: the ring and now please you might not have the job.
- 10:15Speaker 3: You have more experience, you have more confidence, and next
- 10:17Speaker 3: time you know that you can go for it again.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Worst thing that can happen, Jess.
- 10:21Speaker 4: They say no exactly, and now they know you're interested,
- 10:23Speaker 4: which I think is a big win.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Yeah, They're like, she's not going to want to stay
- 10:26Speaker 3: in this role. We're going to have to make.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Room exactly right. Next I've got a money win from Mike,
- 10:30Speaker 4: who said he followed our advice about negotiating our your
- 10:33Speaker 4: mobile phone bill. He called and went straight through to
- 10:35Speaker 4: someone at Retention who reduced his plan from fifty five
- 10:38Speaker 4: dollars to twenty five dollars.
- 10:40Speaker 3: That is so good. Less than a half.
- 10:42Speaker 4: No hesitation on their part. He said, the whole process
- 10:44Speaker 4: took less than five minutes.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I love that. Can I chime in with a money
- 10:47Speaker 3: win from my nana please? Zella from Zella. So Zella
- 10:51Speaker 3: is currently staying with my parents sover from Tasmania, and
- 10:54Speaker 3: my mum found out her phone bill and was like
- 10:58Speaker 3: absolutely not. In fact, mum was that's not a money
- 11:01Speaker 3: win and marched her down to the phone company and
- 11:04Speaker 3: have switched my nana from paying like one hundred and
- 11:06Speaker 3: fifty dollars a month because phone companies just leave old
- 11:10Speaker 3: people on their old contract. No, I was a month.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Don't even start it. I'm about to send a very
- 11:17Speaker 3: salty email because my grandpa passed away like more than
- 11:21Speaker 3: ten years ago. That's okay, why are we still paying
- 11:24Speaker 3: his phone plan?
- 11:26Speaker 4: But did they know?
- 11:27Speaker 3: I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. But it didn't
- 11:30Speaker 3: get used for ten years. The number's been disconnected, so
- 11:32Speaker 3: why are we paying for it? That's crazy anyway, that's
- 11:35Speaker 3: another story for another day. But my nana has just
- 11:37Speaker 3: purchased a sim only plan for like thirty nine dollars
- 11:42Speaker 3: last six months, so much better stop it, Nana, Like,
- 11:46Speaker 3: that's a good deal. And she came home and she said,
- 11:48Speaker 3: I've got a money win for you. I was like,
- 11:51Speaker 3: tell me, tell me, I'll put it on the show.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Don't worry, Nana. She's never listened to my podcast. I
- 11:55Speaker 3: don't even know if she can access it, but like,
- 11:57Speaker 3: I did it for you. Now shout out to Sala
- 11:59Speaker 3: if she's listening. It's also a good reminded for everyone
- 12:01Speaker 3: checking on your grandparents and just make sure that all
- 12:03Speaker 3: excuse me, is anyone taking advantage of you, because that's awful.
- 12:07Speaker 3: They just go, oh, life's expensive, No worries, ducky not
- 12:11Speaker 3: no so much money?
- 12:13Speaker 4: Oh my goodness. Next, I've got money in this week
- 12:15Speaker 4: from Lily who said she's six months pregnant and a
- 12:18Speaker 4: week post COVID. They scrubbed the hell out of their
- 12:22Speaker 4: hopefully last ever bond clean and got the full bond
- 12:25Speaker 4: back and she said there's nothing like telling a guy
- 12:28Speaker 4: his new TV budget depends on the bond being returned.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Pitch made TV's are expensy. Ah, well done.
- 12:37Speaker 4: And then last of this week, I've got a money
- 12:39Speaker 4: in from Christine who said she signed up a few
- 12:41Speaker 4: months back for an adopt a fruit tree program through
- 12:43Speaker 4: her local council where you got a free fruit tree
- 12:46Speaker 4: to be planted in their yard. She got home today
- 12:49Speaker 4: to find a baby peach tree sitting there ready to go.
- 12:52Speaker 4: It's still got a bit of growing to do, but
- 12:54Speaker 4: eventually it'll give her free fruit and look amazing.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Stop her a little peach tree that's so down your alley.
- 13:00Speaker 4: And local council coming through once again.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Jess needs to go work for local friends. I actually should.
- 13:05Speaker 3: I love it, Like, I don't agree with that, but
- 13:07Speaker 3: like if you quit and said I'm going to work
- 13:10Speaker 3: for Burindara, I'd be like, you know what, I'm not
- 13:12Speaker 3: even surprised. Like the story checks out all right. So
- 13:16Speaker 3: I am lucky because while beck is not here, I
- 13:19Speaker 3: get to do broke tips. So would you like to
- 13:22Speaker 3: hear them?
- 13:22Speaker 4: Of course?
- 13:23Speaker 3: So these have all obviously come from our community, and
- 13:25Speaker 3: the first one I have got is from Hannah. She said.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Sign up to your local gym that has a crash
- 13:31Speaker 3: rather than having daycare fees, I pay twenty bucks a
- 13:35Speaker 3: week and the kids go to Krash for up to
- 13:37Speaker 3: two hours a day. Some days I just chill and
- 13:40Speaker 3: do some reading at the gym, or I do things
- 13:43Speaker 3: on my laptop while they're in creation get some life
- 13:46Speaker 3: admin kicked out. I didn't know that was a thing,
- 13:48Speaker 3: neither did I.
- 13:49Speaker 4: That's so smart.
- 13:51Speaker 3: So you're telling me that you can just drop your
- 13:52Speaker 3: kid off, and I'm assuming that there's like rules and
- 13:54Speaker 3: regulations around you probably not being allowed to leave the premise,
- 13:58Speaker 3: like you've got a UNI a sign and your mom,
- 14:01Speaker 3: or you've got like you know, some life admin or
- 14:03Speaker 3: want to get through your emails. Sorry, two hours is golden.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just mind boggled that you could just drop
- 14:08Speaker 4: them off at the crazy at the thing.
- 14:10Speaker 3: That's insane. That's that's elite. That is good money, money win,
- 14:14Speaker 3: or a good broke teap I reckon. The next one
- 14:17Speaker 3: is from our friend Cassie. She says, check old loyalty
- 14:20Speaker 3: apps you might not have logged into for a while.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I logged into my Zassafras app after nearly three years
- 14:27Speaker 3: to see I had fifteen dollars in drink credit and
- 14:30Speaker 3: as my birthday was last month, I still had a
- 14:32Speaker 3: free drink for that three free coffees for me. And
- 14:35Speaker 3: then she said, for context, that's a new South Wales
- 14:38Speaker 3: coffee chain. And I moved to Victoria three years ago.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Ohs fra someone.
- 14:43Speaker 4: There was a money win that mentions us fresh and
- 14:45Speaker 4: I was like, I don't know what that is.
- 14:46Speaker 3: So it's a coffee chain.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Oh, there you go.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It makes more sense modern.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Day equivalent of like finding money in a pocket of
- 14:52Speaker 4: an old jacket or something.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Happening to us less and less. It's so disappointing. The
- 14:57Speaker 3: other day I couldn't even find a two dollar coin
- 14:59Speaker 3: for my trolley, and I was like, is this really
- 15:01Speaker 3: where we're at Victoria?
- 15:02Speaker 4: It's desperate times when you're like pulling back the car
- 15:05Speaker 4: seat really get in your hand.
- 15:07Speaker 3: And also, I'm sorry, a shopping cart with a toddler
- 15:10Speaker 3: life changing. Shopping in the supermarket without the trolley and
- 15:14Speaker 3: a toddler life ruining.
- 15:17Speaker 4: I was at coals and I didn't have two dollars
- 15:18Speaker 4: and I said, oh, can I buy a token? And
- 15:21Speaker 4: they said we don't have any tokens? And I said,
- 15:23Speaker 4: so how do I access a trolley then? And they said,
- 15:25Speaker 4: don't be broke. They literally were just like you're going
- 15:27Speaker 4: to have to carry things in your hands.
- 15:30Speaker 3: What is this?
- 15:31Speaker 4: What do you mean? Like obviously, so like I'll bring
- 15:33Speaker 4: the trolley back, like I'm a good citizen. I just
- 15:36Speaker 4: couldn't believe it.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Say, do you know what this is? Why? And like
- 15:39Speaker 3: shout out to coals Intoaronga because I feel like everybody
- 15:41Speaker 3: knows where I live anyway and whatever, like that's just
- 15:44Speaker 3: my local at the moment. They don't have coins on
- 15:47Speaker 3: their trolleys, so I go there exclusively because the woolies
- 15:51Speaker 3: down the road. Sorry, they have coin trolleys not happening.
- 15:54Speaker 3: I can't live like that. That's not an option for me. Sorry,
- 15:57Speaker 3: get it together.
- 15:58Speaker 4: I just think not everybody carry a coin, so like,
- 16:01Speaker 4: what do you do?
- 16:01Speaker 3: You know what? We're gonna make that as merch. We're
- 16:03Speaker 3: gonna make those coins for your your keys, so that
- 16:07Speaker 3: you'll never be without me or without a coin for
- 16:10Speaker 3: the trolley.
- 16:10Speaker 4: It's just your face on a coin.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Do you know what viccoin? Or what was it? Yeah? Viccoin?
- 16:16Speaker 3: Or what have we made last time? But it's actually
- 16:18Speaker 3: coming to real life and it's a grocery trolley coin,
- 16:20Speaker 3: not bitcoin?
- 16:21Speaker 4: All right.
- 16:22Speaker 3: I have a last one. This one isn't from beck
- 16:24Speaker 3: it is actually I've just gone with another community one
- 16:26Speaker 3: because I thought it was really good. This one's from
- 16:28Speaker 3: Bianca and she said I recycle all my empty beauty
- 16:31Speaker 3: and skincare containers at Sephora. In turn, I'm then given
- 16:35Speaker 3: points on my beauty Pass account. When you accumulate enough points,
- 16:39Speaker 3: you can trade them in for rewards. If you have
- 16:42Speaker 3: five hundred points, you can actually get ten percent off
- 16:44Speaker 3: your purchase.
- 16:46Speaker 4: This is life changing for me because I don't know
- 16:48Speaker 4: if you know this, I've been I don't even know
- 16:51Speaker 4: why I've been holding onto every empty product I've used
- 16:54Speaker 4: for probably the last eighteen months. Why it started as
- 16:57Speaker 4: a like I want to see what I'm actually using,
- 17:00Speaker 4: spiraled into hoarding. Yeah, it's I have a whole shelf
- 17:03Speaker 4: in my bathroom cupboard that like you open it things
- 17:06Speaker 4: like youture it bags, bags of stuff, just empty stuff.
- 17:10Speaker 3: So if I came to your house and I was like, huh,
- 17:12Speaker 3: I'm going to raides this beauty cupboard and then I
- 17:14Speaker 3: like scoop it all in take my bag home, I
- 17:17Speaker 3: would be so disappointed.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I'll post a photo somewhere because I have so.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Many and content of stuff you used and actually like.
- 17:25Speaker 3: But I really should because I always say, can you
- 17:27Speaker 3: not do you? You know you don't, but you need
- 17:30Speaker 3: to be like these are my beauty empties, because that's
- 17:32Speaker 3: the content I want to see. I don't want to
- 17:33Speaker 3: be like, here's my brand new eyes shadow I just
- 17:36Speaker 3: got I love it. Sorry, did you actually use it?
- 17:38Speaker 3: Is this worth the investment? Is this the money win?
- 17:40Speaker 4: I'll do that. I'm going to do that on TikTok
- 17:42Speaker 4: and then I'm going to take it to Sephora and
- 17:43Speaker 4: get points because I didn't know what to do with
- 17:45Speaker 4: it because you can't put it in the bin to
- 17:46Speaker 4: recycle it. What. Yeah, most beauty product components are not
- 17:50Speaker 4: like normal recyclable. You have to dispose of them, which
- 17:53Speaker 4: is the other reason I've been hoarding them is because
- 17:55Speaker 4: I was like, oh, I know, I need to take
- 17:57Speaker 4: them to like a specific place.
- 17:58Speaker 3: I was like, girl, your deu Lulu turns you're just
- 18:00Speaker 3: actually a better person than me and you're basically Captain Planet.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Because I could, I've been just putting it in the
- 18:07Speaker 3: recycling I just put.
- 18:08Speaker 4: A bit of bag. We'll take them to support.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I don't go through my bins. I would not win
- 18:12Speaker 3: any type of community or like council award Jess would
- 18:15Speaker 3: though you would you win Captain Plannet. And on that note,
- 18:20Speaker 3: all right, let's go to a really quick break because
- 18:22Speaker 3: on the flip side. We're going to be talking about
- 18:24Speaker 3: how to prepare for dropping down to one income for
- 18:27Speaker 3: maternity leave. And then something that you slid into our
- 18:29Speaker 3: dms about is it about idea to prioritize travel as
- 18:33Speaker 3: a money goal over purchasing a house. Guys, don't go anywhere.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 18:44Speaker 4: money dilemma.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just

- 19:01Speaker 3: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 19:03Speaker 3: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 19:06Speaker 3: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Hi, Shoes on the Money. I was just wondering if
- 19:13Speaker 5: you could do a segment on preparing for maternity leave.
- 19:16Speaker 5: So we're planning to fell pregnant within the next twelve
- 19:19Speaker 5: months and we're kind of looking at how to manage
- 19:22Speaker 5: our finances by coming back onto one income and how
- 19:26Speaker 5: to just balance everything there. If you have any advice
- 19:30Speaker 5: that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
- 19:32Speaker 4: Not that I've had to deal with it before, but
- 19:34Speaker 4: I would say my best guess would be start living
- 19:38Speaker 4: off of one income. Now, while you don't have to
- 19:40Speaker 4: do a good well, you've got a luxury of knowing
- 19:44Speaker 4: that you've got the money that you can fall back on.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Because I think it's like a double win, right, you
- 19:48Speaker 4: will figure out how much you actually do need to live. So, like,
- 19:50Speaker 4: redo your budget. You know, on the assumption that this
- 19:53Speaker 4: is how much we've got coming in from the one income,
- 19:55Speaker 4: try it us to live off that. There's probably going
- 19:57Speaker 4: to be some teething where you go, oh, we thought
- 19:59Speaker 4: we could spend fifty bucks a week on takeaway. It
- 20:01Speaker 4: turns out it's actually more like seventy. Make your adjustments,
- 20:04Speaker 4: but then all the money that you save put aside
- 20:07Speaker 4: so that you can then maybe pay some of that
- 20:09Speaker 4: into you know, top up your super if there's a
- 20:12Speaker 4: gap between the government payment, or you know, just as
- 20:14Speaker 4: an emergency fund or for things for baby or whatever
- 20:17Speaker 4: you need. Like it kind of gives you those extra
- 20:19Speaker 4: savings too. But honestly, I don't really know what that
- 20:22Speaker 4: looks like.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I'd be reviewing your contracts so like right now you're in,
- 20:26Speaker 3: I would say, a pretty powerful position. You're not pregnant, yeah,
- 20:30Speaker 3: which means you've got all this planning time, and you
- 20:32Speaker 3: said we're planning on getting pregnant in the next twelve months,
- 20:35Speaker 3: and I just want to address you know, I guess
- 20:38Speaker 3: the elephant that exists when you talk about planning pregnancy
- 20:40Speaker 3: is that it might not be smooth. But like, let's
- 20:42Speaker 3: pretend it is. We're hoping it will be. Yeah, we
- 20:45Speaker 3: are manifesting that energy that when you get pregnant it
- 20:48Speaker 3: was because that was the time you wanted to and
- 20:49Speaker 3: it was all smooth and sunshine and roses. But I
- 20:52Speaker 3: think good suggestion going back to one income or even
- 20:56Speaker 3: just trying to budget and save as much as possible.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I also want you to do a maternity leave budget,
- 21:02Speaker 3: because I think so many of us go, oh, well,
- 21:04Speaker 3: we will, you know, just be really frugal during that time.
- 21:08Speaker 3: But I would say the fourth trimester, so like you
- 21:10Speaker 3: have three trimesters where you're pregnant, and then you have
- 21:12Speaker 3: the first twelve weeks of having a baby at home,
- 21:14Speaker 3: and that is for some people glorious, for others really rough.
- 21:19Speaker 3: And I was a mix of both like your hormones
- 21:22Speaker 3: are surging. Everything is so hard. I cried so much,
- 21:26Speaker 3: like and sometimes my husband would be like, why are
- 21:30Speaker 3: you crying and it'd be like, I'm now crying because
- 21:33Speaker 3: you don't know why I'm crying. And it was just
- 21:36Speaker 3: a chaos period, right. But something that I learnt really
- 21:40Speaker 3: quickly and thankfully as a financial advisor, I have always
- 21:43Speaker 3: allocated for my clients is like, have I got money
- 21:46Speaker 3: in the bank that I can go for a morning
- 21:48Speaker 3: walk and get a coffee comfortably? You do not need
- 21:51Speaker 3: the guilts at that period of time where you're like oofed,
- 21:54Speaker 3: we're on one income. I don't want to be going
- 21:56Speaker 3: to the cafe and quote wasting money. To me, that
- 21:59Speaker 3: was like a massive achievement if I got out of
- 22:01Speaker 3: the house, especially once my husband had gone back to work,
- 22:05Speaker 3: If I got out of the house and got myself
- 22:08Speaker 3: a coffee or a little sweet treat, do you know
- 22:10Speaker 3: what that was worth it? So, like, what does that
- 22:12Speaker 3: budget potentially look like? If you don't use it, money win,
- 22:16Speaker 3: If you do use it, mental health win. Everybody wins
- 22:19Speaker 3: in this situation. So we're not just looking at like
- 22:22Speaker 3: what are your life expenses or your rent or your mortgage,
- 22:25Speaker 3: Like are the additional things that you want to be doing?
- 22:27Speaker 3: Like are your electricity bills going to increase? Because you know,
- 22:31Speaker 3: maybe you do know what month your baby is going
- 22:33Speaker 3: to be born in it's the middle of winter, and
- 22:35Speaker 3: like for me, that was something that I didn't anticipate.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I'm now home twenty four seven, and unlike Jess, who
- 22:42Speaker 3: is very good with the electricity, I think you would
- 22:45Speaker 3: change too if you had a baby.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Because you have to keep it a certain temperature.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Yea, Like all of.
- 22:48Speaker 3: A sudden, all I cared about was making sure that
- 22:51Speaker 3: my house was perfect twenty one twenty two degrees for
- 22:53Speaker 3: this baby, because that's what I'd been told. And like historically,
- 22:56Speaker 3: if I was just home alone, I'd just have the
- 22:58Speaker 3: heating off until my husband got home, socks on, grab
- 23:00Speaker 3: a jumper. You don't do that with a baby. You know,
- 23:03Speaker 3: what are your electricity costs likely to look like? Also
- 23:06Speaker 3: on the flip side, if it's the middle of summer,
- 23:09Speaker 3: are you using your air con a lot? So just
- 23:11Speaker 3: having these little conversations about what that would mean. Also,
- 23:15Speaker 3: budgeting for baby is going to be so different for everybody,
- 23:19Speaker 3: and like everybody's got an opinion on how this works.
- 23:22Speaker 3: We've done an episode on budgeting for baby. We're going
- 23:24Speaker 3: to do another one soon now that I've especially had
- 23:27Speaker 3: a baby. But some of us have a lot of support.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Some of us have an older sibling who gives you
- 23:34Speaker 3: the cot, the hammy down outfits, you're doing cloth nappies,
- 23:37Speaker 3: and you're a perfect breastfeeder. It's not going to cost
- 23:41Speaker 3: you a lot. You also go through the public system,
- 23:43Speaker 3: or on the flip side, it could be like myself,
- 23:46Speaker 3: thankfully I had the financial privilege to like fund this,
- 23:50Speaker 3: but like we decided to go through the private system.
- 23:52Speaker 3: I don't have any siblings or older friends who had
- 23:56Speaker 3: cots and lots of handy downs, So all of the
- 23:59Speaker 3: stuff that I acquiring was new. So my budget obviously
- 24:02Speaker 3: had to be a little bit bigger when it came
- 24:03Speaker 3: to setting up for a baby. But there's still going
- 24:06Speaker 3: to be those costs that you can't avoid, So what
- 24:08Speaker 3: do they look like? How's that going to work? But
- 24:11Speaker 3: the idea that you would not only have an emergency
- 24:13Speaker 3: fund but also a maternity fund, I think is really good.
- 24:17Speaker 3: And we're looking back at the conversation I was having
- 24:19Speaker 3: before at your contracts, So you know, I might, let's
- 24:23Speaker 3: say Jesse and I were having a baby together, I
- 24:25Speaker 3: might look at your leave contract and be like, okay, well,
- 24:27Speaker 3: this is what your workplace gives you from an eternity leave.
- 24:31Speaker 3: What's the parental leave policy at my husband's job? Like
- 24:34Speaker 3: what do those things look like? Because for even my
- 24:37Speaker 3: husband and I went planning that, I was like, oh,
- 24:39Speaker 3: you actually have a really good parental leave policy that
- 24:42Speaker 3: we could definitely lean on a bit more. Are you
- 24:46Speaker 3: planning on taking time and my husband always wanted to
- 24:48Speaker 3: do this, but are you planning on taking some time off?
- 24:52Speaker 3: If so, how do we make the most of that?
- 24:54Speaker 3: At what point is the best time for you to
- 24:56Speaker 3: take off? Is it from me going on maternity leave?
- 24:59Speaker 3: Is it when the bay becomes is it? You know
- 25:01Speaker 3: you take a month now, and then later down the
- 25:04Speaker 3: track you might take some more time. Like how's that
- 25:07Speaker 3: action exactly? How's that going to work for you guys?
- 25:10Speaker 3: And what does that balance look like? But then also
- 25:13Speaker 3: when you're planning on going back to work, so like
- 25:15Speaker 3: maternity leave, yes, you're planning for not having any any
- 25:19Speaker 3: second income. You're on one income, which I'm assuming you
- 25:23Speaker 3: know you're like, how do I budget for this for
- 25:25Speaker 3: that period, because I'm assuming that you're planning on returning
- 25:27Speaker 3: to work. What does return to work.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Costs look like?
- 25:31Speaker 3: Have you looked at daycares? Do you know what daycare
- 25:33Speaker 3: in your area looks like? What subsidies are you able
- 25:36Speaker 3: to access? What type of family support can you can
- 25:40Speaker 3: you not like be reliant on? So maybe not having
- 25:43Speaker 3: those conversations because you don't want to bring up to
- 25:45Speaker 3: your mum that you're trying to have a baby. But
- 25:48Speaker 3: what would that look like? Because your whole budget once
- 25:51Speaker 3: you have kids changes and that can look very different
- 25:53Speaker 3: for different people, And I don't want you to just
- 25:56Speaker 3: focus on that, you know, first twelve weeks or first
- 25:58Speaker 3: six months or first twelve months when your budget in
- 26:02Speaker 3: general is going to significantly change.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Yeah, and then I guess you're probably once the baby's born,
- 26:07Speaker 4: even before they want to start contributing or if you
- 26:09Speaker 4: can putting money aside for like future school fees or futures.
- 26:13Speaker 3: It's chaos, isn't it.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a lot to think about, but there's probably
- 26:16Speaker 4: some really good budgets out there that account for those.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Things absolutely, like a free one on the She's on
- 26:21Speaker 3: the Money website that you could just download that has
- 26:23Speaker 3: a whole kids section. Amazing exactly. I wish I'd thought
- 26:26Speaker 3: of that myself.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Exactly right, But yeah, very exciting. Congratulations, it's a really
- 26:32Speaker 4: exciting time.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Budget, I think is the outcome. And also communicate with
- 26:35Speaker 3: your partner what are their expectations? How are you going
- 26:38Speaker 3: to be managing money? Something that comes up as well,
- 26:40Speaker 3: and I'm just yapping on, is actually you feeling if
- 26:44Speaker 3: you're the person going on maternity leave like that you're
- 26:46Speaker 3: spending your partner's money. It's not it's a household income,
- 26:50Speaker 3: like you're taking a sacrifice. Also, can we please talk
- 26:53Speaker 3: about superannuation? What's that going to look like? How are
- 26:55Speaker 3: we going to be making sure that if I'm taking
- 26:58Speaker 3: a year of maternity leave. I'm not completely off because
- 27:01Speaker 3: the government doesn't actually provide maternity leave cover for that
- 27:04Speaker 3: period of time, but Sexy, they do now give you
- 27:08Speaker 3: supernuation on your matt leave pay from the government. We
- 27:11Speaker 3: love that, we love to see it, but it might
- 27:13Speaker 3: not be at your salary expectations.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Yeah, so what do you need to do to make up?
- 27:17Speaker 3: We got well, we could salary split. That's crazy, partner.
- 27:21Speaker 4: Lots of conversations have keep an eye up with that
- 27:22Speaker 4: baby episode coming soon?
- 27:24Speaker 3: Would you like to hear a cheeky DM?
- 27:26Speaker 4: We got absolutely all right.
- 27:28Speaker 3: Hi, she's on the money. I have a money dilemma
- 27:30Speaker 3: and would love some advice. My partner wants to buy
- 27:33Speaker 3: a house or apartment together next year. I want this
- 27:36Speaker 3: too in brackets eventually, but travel is so important to me.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I know traveling will be incredibly difficult once we are
- 27:43Speaker 3: locked into a mortgage. My question is traveling while having
- 27:47Speaker 3: a mortgage a bad idea? I know financially, I should
- 27:50Speaker 3: probably just throw everything we have at it financially, but
- 27:54Speaker 3: I also want to see the world while I'm young.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Am I stupid for wanting my cake and to be
- 27:59Speaker 3: able to eat it too? I would love your tips.
- 28:01Speaker 4: I think it's so dependent on your personal financial situation,
- 28:04Speaker 4: because if you're earning fifty thousand dollars a year, paying
- 28:08Speaker 4: a mortgage and traveling might be a little bit tricky.
- 28:11Speaker 4: But if you're earning one hundred and fifty thousand dollars
- 28:13Speaker 4: a year, it's probably something that's a lot more achievable. Yeah,
- 28:16Speaker 4: it also really depends on I know that you've said
- 28:19Speaker 4: you want to see the world, so to me, that
- 28:21Speaker 4: kind of implies international travel, and it really depends on
- 28:24Speaker 4: where you want to go, you know, countries close to
- 28:26Speaker 4: Australia as countries further away First world verse third world, Like,
- 28:30Speaker 4: there's lots of factors that are going to impact how
- 28:33Speaker 4: expensive it will be for you to travel. I would
- 28:36Speaker 4: say that if that's something that you want to prioritize,
- 28:38Speaker 4: that's totally okay, but you need to talk to your
- 28:40Speaker 4: partner about it because it sounds like they're operating on
- 28:43Speaker 4: the assumption that you're doing this together, like purchasing this
- 28:46Speaker 4: home together, and it sounds like you're not quite there.
- 28:50Speaker 4: You said you it's something you want to do eventually,
- 28:52Speaker 4: but you don't want to do it now, and it
- 28:53Speaker 4: sounds like maybe your partner is pushing to get it
- 28:55Speaker 4: done sooner than later, which is totally fine that you
- 28:58Speaker 4: both have different priorities, but if your partner's operating on
- 29:01Speaker 4: the assumption that you'll be doing it together in the
- 29:03Speaker 4: next five years, for example, like they've probably built their
- 29:06Speaker 4: long term plan around that, and if that's not something
- 29:09Speaker 4: you want to commit to, you've kind of got to
- 29:11Speaker 4: let them know because that's her job to impact what
- 29:14Speaker 4: their plans are. How soon they can do it all
- 29:16Speaker 4: those types of things. So it's definitely not a bad thing.
- 29:20Speaker 4: Like you're allowed to want to prioritize whatever you want.
- 29:22Speaker 4: You know, whatever is important to you is good and okay,
- 29:26Speaker 4: but you just I think, need to be conscious of
- 29:28Speaker 4: the way that that will then impact your partner. Yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 4: and it is totally doable, Like you can absolutely travel
- 29:35Speaker 4: and pay a mortgage, but again it comes down to
- 29:37Speaker 4: like what are your lifestyle expenses? Like, if travel is
- 29:41Speaker 4: something you want to prioritize, does that mean that you
- 29:43Speaker 4: would not be able to afford eating out with friends
- 29:45Speaker 4: or buying new clothes or you know, Like, there's lots
- 29:48Speaker 4: of ways that you can juggle your budget. We've spoken
- 29:50Speaker 4: before about how everybody has different priorities and different things
- 29:53Speaker 4: that they care about, and there's no right or wrong
- 29:56Speaker 4: way to organize all of that. But you need to
- 29:59Speaker 4: do some reflection figure out like is it achievable for
- 30:01Speaker 4: you with what you earn, with what you want to do,
- 30:04Speaker 4: and with the lifestyle sacrifices that you may or may
- 30:08Speaker 4: not have to make.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. The other thing I would be doing
- 30:11Speaker 3: is talking to a mortgage broker about what these scenarios
- 30:14Speaker 3: actually look like because a lot of the time I
- 30:17Speaker 3: speak to people literally weekly and they're like, we want
- 30:19Speaker 3: to buy next year, and then we find that that's
- 30:21Speaker 3: actually not feasible. Pipe dream, so fantastic, you thought you
- 30:24Speaker 3: could buy, but you know the deposit that you've saved
- 30:27Speaker 3: is simply not enough for you know, you're actually not
- 30:29Speaker 3: on the same page about what you're purchasing. And then
- 30:32Speaker 3: having a good conversation with a broker is going to
- 30:34Speaker 3: do two things right. You're going to work out what
- 30:36Speaker 3: your borrowing capacity is and like, let's just pretend between
- 30:39Speaker 3: you and your partner and just for clean numbers sakes
- 30:41Speaker 3: both of you together, you can borrow a million dollars. Fantastic,
- 30:45Speaker 3: very sexy, very nice. What are the repayments on that
- 30:48Speaker 3: million dollars looking like each and every single month? And
- 30:50Speaker 3: how does that impact your lifestyle? And what does that
- 30:54Speaker 3: then look like for the rest of the lifestyle that
- 30:57Speaker 3: you want to achieve. So are we talking to our
- 30:58Speaker 3: partner about not maybe pushing off, Like, let's pretend your
- 31:02Speaker 3: partner is reasonable in saying we can afford to buy
- 31:04Speaker 3: next year, Jessica, and you go, yes, no worries. What
- 31:07Speaker 3: does life look like to them? Have you had a
- 31:09Speaker 3: bit of a brainstorm together about well, you know, what
- 31:12Speaker 3: are we happy to sacrifice? What are we not happy
- 31:14Speaker 3: to sacrifice? Like I remember when my husband and I
- 31:17Speaker 3: were buying, we had a borrowing capacity above what we
- 31:20Speaker 3: actually purchased for because, like both of us were like, oh,
- 31:24Speaker 3: we still want to eat out, we still want to
- 31:26Speaker 3: have travel, we still want to have all of these things.
- 31:29Speaker 3: So we lowered what we borrowed and what our quote
- 31:32Speaker 3: limit was not because that's what the bank said we
- 31:34Speaker 3: could borrow, but that's what we said we could borrow
- 31:37Speaker 3: based on the lifestyle we wanted to achieve, And so
- 31:40Speaker 3: I think that's really important as well. So what does
- 31:43Speaker 3: your partner think, Like, are they planning on purchasing and
- 31:46Speaker 3: they just still think travel is going to be slotting
- 31:49Speaker 3: in there absolutely fine? Or are they like, oh my goodness, Jess,
- 31:52Speaker 3: I never actually thought about this. You're right, like, we'll
- 31:55Speaker 3: be living on rice and beans for the rest of
- 31:57Speaker 3: our life if we take on that mortgage. And maybe
- 31:59Speaker 3: the decision is to save for a little bit longer
- 32:02Speaker 3: so you have more deposit, or maybe it is to
- 32:04Speaker 3: reset expectations around the type of property that you purchase,
- 32:07Speaker 3: so you can absolutely have your cake and eat it too,
- 32:10Speaker 3: But when it comes to finances, everything is about compromise.
- 32:13Speaker 3: So like, yes, you could travel the entire world and
- 32:16Speaker 3: go on luxury cruises and only travel to first world
- 32:19Speaker 3: countries for the rest of your life, but that is
- 32:21Speaker 3: going to come at a cost. But you could also
- 32:24Speaker 3: reasonably go, Okay, well, we really want to travel together
- 32:29Speaker 3: as a couple, it's a value of ours. We also
- 32:31Speaker 3: really want to buy a house. How do we buy
- 32:33Speaker 3: a house but also still have the cash flow to
- 32:35Speaker 3: afford an eight to ten thousand dollars holiday every year? Okay, well,
- 32:39Speaker 3: maybe that doesn't work. How do we have the eight
- 32:42Speaker 3: to ten thousand dollars holiday every two years? Is that
- 32:45Speaker 3: what you're happy to commit to? Like, what does that
- 32:47Speaker 3: look like? Also, let's take a step back. What's your
- 32:50Speaker 3: earning potential into the future. Is that going to change?
- 32:53Speaker 3: Is your lifestyle going to change?
- 32:55Speaker 4: Are you factoring in inflation?
- 32:56Speaker 3: Are you factoring in any of the life choices that
- 32:59Speaker 3: you make, Like, babies aren't for everybody, But if that's
- 33:02Speaker 3: a part of your lifestyle decision, maybe that's why you're like,
- 33:05Speaker 3: I really want to see with the world while I'm young,
- 33:06Speaker 3: because I can't think of anything worse than a toddler
- 33:09Speaker 3: in Europe, you know.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Like fair.
- 33:11Speaker 3: I just want to experience that on my own. So
- 33:13Speaker 3: I think it's all about open communication, which is hilarious
- 33:16Speaker 3: because that's what we always talk about. But if your
- 33:18Speaker 3: partners like, really want to purchase next year, and you're like, oh,
- 33:22Speaker 3: I do really want that, but I also have this
- 33:24Speaker 3: other value. Let's bring it up, Let's have a wine,
- 33:27Speaker 3: let's have a date night.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Yeah, And now it's a good time to talk about
- 33:29Speaker 4: it because you haven't committed to anything. It's not at
- 33:32Speaker 4: all out now before you start making choices.
- 33:34Speaker 3: And you can get a budget together now, So like
- 33:37Speaker 3: you can google mortgage calculator and basically every single bank
- 33:41Speaker 3: and credit union has a free one on their website,
- 33:43Speaker 3: and you can put in what your loan would be,
- 33:45Speaker 3: what your deposit is looking like, and it will tell
- 33:47Speaker 3: you what your average monthly repayments on that kind of
- 33:50Speaker 3: look like. Please don't take that stuff as gospel. It's
- 33:53Speaker 3: just for conversation beforehand, because every loan is going to
- 33:56Speaker 3: look different based on the interest rate, based on like
- 33:59Speaker 3: the loan term, based on so much stuff, whether you
- 34:01Speaker 3: have ELEMI no elamite whatever, but use those as kind
- 34:05Speaker 3: of guides be like, oh, okay, well I didn't realize
- 34:08Speaker 3: that would cost us six thousand dollars a month. Yeah,
- 34:11Speaker 3: did your partner know that? Do you know what I mean? Like,
- 34:14Speaker 3: sometimes these things are so aspirational and we're so excited
- 34:17Speaker 3: that we forget to get into the semantics, and then
- 34:19Speaker 3: that's where we shoot ourselves in the foot. So google it,
- 34:22Speaker 3: work it.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Out, whatever we else say.
- 34:24Speaker 3: So we asked a few questions before I asked them
- 34:26Speaker 3: for their two cents. First question was what would you
- 34:29Speaker 3: prioritize in this situation? So fifty eight percent of you
- 34:32Speaker 3: said travel lightly or paying the mortgage, thirty three percent
- 34:37Speaker 3: said delay the house, go see the world, and ten
- 34:39Speaker 3: percent of you said house first, travel later.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 34:43Speaker 3: And then we asked what would you do if your
- 34:45Speaker 3: timeline for financial goals was different to your partners? And
- 34:49Speaker 3: a whopping eighty eight percent of you said, I would
- 34:52Speaker 3: find a compromise. I kind of love that because it's like, for.
- 34:55Speaker 4: A second I thought you were going to say they
- 34:56Speaker 4: were going to say break up.
- 34:57Speaker 3: My heart dropped. Oh my god, I thought it with
- 35:00Speaker 3: financial advice, not like relationship advice. Maybe I should. So
- 35:04Speaker 3: there's this like content creator online that I send a
- 35:07Speaker 3: lot of videos to you of His name's Caleb Yep.
- 35:11Speaker 3: So his name's Caleb Hammer And if you haven't looked
- 35:13Speaker 3: him up on TikTok do, because he's everything I've always
- 35:16Speaker 3: wanted to be. But like, also I would never he's
- 35:20Speaker 3: so aggressive with So he does a podcast called Financial
- 35:23Speaker 3: Audit and maybe one day somehow we could manifest getting
- 35:27Speaker 3: him on our show.
- 35:28Speaker 4: That would be cool.
- 35:28Speaker 3: But he does like unhinged money diaries. Basically he does
- 35:32Speaker 3: these like audits of people's finances and he'll be like,
- 35:36Speaker 3: what the hell are you doing, Jess, And like I
- 35:39Speaker 3: cannot get enough of these people that are going on
- 35:41Speaker 3: his show and putting their hands up and being like
- 35:44Speaker 3: I'd love to be non anonymously, like I'll put my
- 35:46Speaker 3: name to this on your show. And then she's in
- 35:49Speaker 3: forty thousand dollars worth of debt because she bought La
- 35:51Speaker 3: Boo Boos.
- 35:52Speaker 4: They're volunteering to be rastered.
- 35:53Speaker 3: They are volunteering exactly, and it just I go, what
- 35:57Speaker 3: the hell? Or like they'll be like, yeah, my husband
- 36:00Speaker 3: and like does all of these terrible financial things, and
- 36:02Speaker 3: he's like, divorce him and I'm like, oh my god,
- 36:05Speaker 3: can you imagine saying that doesn't anyway? It is so
- 36:07Speaker 3: unhinged that I can't get enough of it. I think
- 36:10Speaker 3: my other favorite one was this girl being like, well,
- 36:11Speaker 3: I shouldn't have to work, I'm beautiful, And I was like,
- 36:14Speaker 3: I wasn't made to work. What's going on? Like what
- 36:17Speaker 3: he's going on anyway? Clearly not she's on the money coded,
- 36:21Speaker 3: but like when it comes to like finance content, I
- 36:24Speaker 3: love it because he's so savage.
- 36:26Speaker 4: He says. I feel like he's like the little voice
- 36:28Speaker 4: in your head, you know, like I'm sure that I've shown,
- 36:30Speaker 4: especially in the early days, like said or shown some
- 36:32Speaker 4: things to you where like your internal monologue was probably
- 36:34Speaker 4: like girl, get it together, Like what are you doing?
- 36:37Speaker 3: But like I say, like in a kind way, though,
- 36:39Speaker 3: I'll be like, oh, do you really think that that's
- 36:41Speaker 3: really helping you or whatever? But like he says the thoughts,
- 36:45Speaker 3: he's like what the air for? What are you doing?
- 36:48Speaker 3: Like there was a couple on the show the other
- 36:49Speaker 3: day and he was like, why are you two together?
- 36:52Speaker 3: He's awful? Or like this other girl was on the
- 36:56Speaker 3: show and to the husband, he literally said in the
- 36:59Speaker 3: three years of doing this podcast. I've never met someone
- 37:02Speaker 3: more dislikable. What do you like about this woman? And
- 37:04Speaker 3: I was like, I would die, I would cry anyway.
- 37:08Speaker 3: So that's clearly not what our show is about. But
- 37:11Speaker 3: I'm glad that most of our community would find a
- 37:13Speaker 3: compromise not break up with their partner.
- 37:15Speaker 4: Jess.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Seven percent said that they would pause the goal until
- 37:18Speaker 3: you're both ready, and five percent said no, I'm sticking
- 37:20Speaker 3: to my own plan. The you live love laugh queens.
- 37:23Speaker 3: We then said, guys, what is your two cents? First
- 37:27Speaker 3: person and I've just got like a little selection as always.
- 37:29Speaker 3: First person said, you can definitely travel with a mortgage.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I do, just don't borrow more than you can manage
- 37:36Speaker 3: can be done. Next person said extending trips would allow
- 37:39Speaker 3: for renting out the home whilst paying the mortgage.
- 37:42Speaker 4: I'll just.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Exactly, I didn't even think of that. Next person said,
- 37:48Speaker 3: start a side gig so that you can pay for
- 37:49Speaker 3: your travel. I mean, why not, hustle queen? Next person,
- 37:54Speaker 3: you will never regret traveling and making memories. And then
- 37:57Speaker 3: I have another one. We had buckets for travel, deposit,
- 38:00Speaker 3: and wedding. We ticked all of our goals off. We
- 38:02Speaker 3: just had to make adjustments along the way.
- 38:04Speaker 4: It's exactly what you were saying.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Another person said, I'm fifty one and missed traveling the
- 38:09Speaker 3: world due to a mortgage. Please travel now, mortgage later.
- 38:13Speaker 4: There you go some insight from someone who's lived in yelp.
- 38:16Speaker 3: And then I've got a two parter. So this person said,
- 38:18Speaker 3: I bought a house three years ago now on a
- 38:21Speaker 3: single income. It took a little while before I could
- 38:24Speaker 3: afford a trip again, but I kept saving and this
- 38:26Speaker 3: year I went to Canada for four weeks. Oh that's
- 38:29Speaker 3: so exciting, I know, right. So, like, I think it's
- 38:31Speaker 3: just about communicating, either with yourself or with your partner,
- 38:34Speaker 3: like what's the goal here? Can we still do these things?
- 38:36Speaker 3: It's like, yes, we can do everything, we just can't
- 38:39Speaker 3: do everything at once.
- 38:41Speaker 4: Be realistic.
- 38:42Speaker 3: And I have two more for you before I wrap
- 38:43Speaker 3: it up. This one says I just broke up with
- 38:45Speaker 3: my boyfriend over this. Actually, oh, we couldn't come to
- 38:48Speaker 3: a compromise. Well, I mean, if.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Your goals don't align financially, like that's a pretty big thing.
- 38:53Speaker 3: That's massive. And also know your worth and know what
- 38:57Speaker 3: you want. And I'm like, you know, don't just break
- 38:59Speaker 3: up with somebody over one thing. I'm not Caleb Hammer.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I can't just say that. But I also think that
- 39:04Speaker 3: there's probably some more deep rooted issues there and like
- 39:07Speaker 3: these things where you can't compromise or like I can't
- 39:10Speaker 3: want you to achieve your goals. Yeah bye boy.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Yeah absolutely.
- 39:14Speaker 3: And the last one I've got is whatever you do
- 39:16Speaker 3: travel before the kids come along. It's so much cheaper
- 39:19Speaker 3: when you're only planning for two hashtag money hack up
- 39:22Speaker 3: there you go, Oh my god. It actually is like
- 39:24Speaker 3: as somebody who's just gotten back from Bali with a
- 39:27Speaker 3: kid who's eighteen months old. I loved it, but my
- 39:31Speaker 3: husband and I were talking about what are we going
- 39:32Speaker 3: to do when we have to buy him his own
- 39:33Speaker 3: plane seat?
- 39:34Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 39:35Speaker 3: Expensive, little Once they're two, they become a full adult
- 39:38Speaker 3: when it comes to flying. So anyway, enjoy it while
- 39:42Speaker 3: they're young we can. All right. That is all from
- 39:44Speaker 3: us this week. I feel like this has been a
- 39:47Speaker 3: good wrap up. We miss Beck, but she'll be back soon. Guys.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Don't worry. Until then, we will have a bright and
- 39:52Speaker 3: early money diary for you on Monday. See you hi, guys.
