- 0:08Hey guys, welcome back to Mom gone mild if you're new here.
- 0:12Hi, my name is Lex, former Farrell party girl turn mom.
- 0:18Figuring out life basically in real time.
- 0:22And today I want to talk about something that I think so many
- 0:27of us deal with but don't always say out loud.
- 0:31Judgment comparison. The pressure to be a certain way
- 0:35before we feel like we're truly worthy.
- 0:39Because lately I've realized something.
- 0:41A lot of us are walking around living our lives like it hasn't
- 0:45started yet. Something I've seen time and
- 0:49time again is people giving unsolicited advice.
- 0:53I know this one might make some people mad, I don't care, but it
- 0:59needs to be said advice Nobody asks for, opinions nobody needs.
- 1:04People love to tell you what you should be doing, how you should
- 1:08look, how you should parent, how you should live your life.
- 1:12And it's always coming from people who think their beliefs
- 1:16or their standards or some way the right way.
- 1:19But who decided that? I've had men ask me when I plan
- 1:24to get in shape or, you know, when are you going to focus on
- 1:28you? And the time is now, my friend.
- 1:31I've been called the fat friend my entire life and I've always
- 1:36wondered what gives someone the right to comment on another
- 1:38person's body Who decided that someone else's opinion about
- 1:43your appearance is something you're supposed to even care
- 1:46about? Because honestly, it's wild that
- 1:49society has normalized this. I can remember moments growing
- 1:55up where those kind of comments really just stuck with me.
- 1:59There was one time when I was in a video class in school.
- 2:03Guys, I just want to say I've never told the story because
- 2:07I've just felt so embarrassed. But I mean, thinking about it
- 2:12now, it's like I shouldn't be the one that's embarrassed.
- 2:15These people should be. So listen to this.
- 2:19So like I said, I was in video class in school and I was
- 2:22actually really excited about this class.
- 2:24I genuinely looked forward to it.
- 2:28It was one of those classes I actually liked because, mind
- 2:31you, I hated school. I hated being in it.
- 2:33It just wasn't for me. Anyways, for a group project, we
- 2:36had to make some sort of, I guess, video.
- 2:39I don't remember what the video was about.
- 2:41And I was in a group with this guy who I thought was the
- 2:44hottest guy in school. Yeah.
- 2:47I was so like, I had, like, heart eyes, you know what I
- 2:51mean? And he started talking to me.
- 2:55We were laughing, we joke around, We had, like, serious
- 2:59conversations. And to me, it felt like a real
- 3:01friendship. I mean, I would see him at
- 3:03parties, we would talk to each other, and it just like, felt
- 3:07genuine. I felt like, OK, maybe he
- 3:10actually liked me for me. And yeah, I thought we were
- 3:14legit friends. Then one day, I was absent from
- 3:17school. I don't remember why, I must
- 3:18have been sick or something. But when I came back the next
- 3:23day, they had already made the video.
- 3:27And the video they made was of me.
- 3:31Yeah, I was bullied, guys. And it had cow noises playing
- 3:37over it. Like somehow that was supposed
- 3:39to be funny. I think I was like walking.
- 3:42And the cow noises were like in the background.
- 3:45And everyone laughed. The whole class laughed, even I
- 3:49think the teacher laughed. And I remember sitting there
- 3:51just feeling so pathetic and embarrassed.
- 3:54And that boy had the biggest crush on laughed the most.
- 3:58I felt like the biggest fool. But instead of crying, I laughed
- 4:04too, because I didn't know how else to react, to be honest.
- 4:08Because when you're that embarrassed, sometimes laughing
- 4:11feels like the only option. You pretend it's funny.
- 4:14That's when you kind of become the funny fat friend and you
- 4:18just pretend like it didn't hurt.
- 4:20And honestly, I think that that moment changed something in me
- 4:25because after that, I learned not to let my guard down with
- 4:28people. I stopped then.
- 4:30I stopped being as trusting, to be honest.
- 4:33And I think that's where I started becoming the person
- 4:36people sometimes describe me as a bitch because that was just
- 4:40like my wall of just like, OK, you're going to make fun of me,
- 4:43I'm going to be the same way. And then it kind of just turned
- 4:45into this toxic relationship that I had with people.
- 4:50Like as soon as they were, they made any kind of joke, I right
- 4:54away like insult to them. I, it, it was awful.
- 4:57I mean, I was not the nicest person I know, but really, I
- 5:01think I was just kind of protecting myself because when
- 5:05you're too nice, when you're too trusting, when you want to see
- 5:09the good in people, sometimes people, they like to take
- 5:12advantage of that. Back then, I was too nice, and
- 5:15people made fun of me for it. But looking back now, I just
- 5:18realized something. I accepted that behavior.
- 5:22Well, don't realize is how much words stick with you.
- 5:25I can guarantee you something. I probably don't remember most
- 5:29of the compliments I've gotten over the years, but the cruel
- 5:32comments, Yeah. The mean things people said
- 5:36about my body, the mean things people said just about me in
- 5:39general, the way I was treated and especially the way it made
- 5:43me feel. Those things just never
- 5:45disappear. They stay with you, they change
- 5:48you. You could be wearing a cute
- 5:51outfit, feeling just like amazing about yourself, and
- 5:55someone makes 1 little comment, just one.
- 5:58And instantly you retreat. You second guess yourself.
- 6:03You never wear that outfit again.
- 6:05The next time you go shopping, you're thinking about the
- 6:07comment. You're thinking about what
- 6:09people might say and how people act like words don't matter but
- 6:14they really do. And something else I want to be
- 6:19really honest about is when I was younger I had men call me
- 6:23fat to my face. Yeah, I know I allowed that.
- 6:29But those same men would secretly be in my text messages.
- 6:33Back then we didn't really have Instagram.
- 6:35So like in my Facebook messages and yeah, they would secretly
- 6:40message me trying to hook up. Like somehow I was good enough
- 6:44to sleep with but not good enough to respect publicly.
- 6:48And when I was younger guys, my self esteem was so low I
- 6:52actually accepted it. I told myself things like well
- 6:56if he wants to hook up with me, I must not be that bad right?
- 7:00There must be some other reason why he makes fun of me.
- 7:03Oh he likes me that's why he makes fun of me.
- 7:07So I went along with it. And the sad truth is almost
- 7:10every time those same guys would still make fun of me after
- 7:15hooking up with me. Looking back now I realized
- 7:18something hard. I had no self respect, I kept
- 7:23making excuses for their behaviour and yes, I allowed it
- 7:26'cause I could have said no, I could have walked away.
- 7:30But when yourself worth is just so low, you accept things you
- 7:34never should. And I even felt like this when
- 7:39there was a time where I, you know, I was like into heavy
- 7:42drugs. So I had lost a significant
- 7:45amount of weight. So even then I had no self
- 7:48respect because I didn't do it the right way.
- 7:50I did it where it just happened really, really fast.
- 7:53So I wasn't able to mentally, you know, prepare myself for
- 7:57that change. So I still allowed guys to treat
- 7:59me like shit. And yeah, even my ex, I had
- 8:05known him. We were best friends for a long
- 8:07time before we dated, and he always saw me as, again, a fat
- 8:12friend. But then I lost weight and, you
- 8:15know, he showed interest in me. So already that relationship
- 8:19wasn't really built on, you know, honesty because I was
- 8:23lying about doing drugs. That's why I was skinny.
- 8:26And he just wasn't into me when I was fatter.
- 8:29And yeah, but you know, that's why I am so happy that I'm in
- 8:37the relationship that I am now, because Randy has had me at my
- 8:39skinniest. Randy has had me at my largest.
- 8:43And to be honest, he loves, has loved me throughout each stage.
- 8:48And that's why I want to better myself so I can give him the
- 8:50best version of me now. And I think a lot of people, a
- 8:55lot of women can relate to that. Maybe people.
- 8:58I mean, hey, we're all human. We all have body issues.
- 9:02Body, you know, I feel like I have really bad body dysmorphia
- 9:07because I didn't adjust to, you know, being so thin, gaining so
- 9:12much weight, being thin again and gaining weight again.
- 9:15I didn't mentally prepare for that.
- 9:17So I'm kind of all messed up now.
- 9:20I am at the heaviest I've ever been, and honestly, I can
- 9:23probably say I don't give a shit.
- 9:26I see comments, I get dams from people talking about my weight.
- 9:29Yes, I'm a big girl trying to lose weight.
- 9:32I know, shocker. But The funny thing is, we're
- 9:37kind of damned if we do, damned if we don't.
- 9:39We eat a burger, people shame us.
- 9:41We eat a salad, people shame us. Suddenly everyone becomes a
- 9:45nutrition expert. Have you noticed that?
- 9:48They'll say things like, be real.
- 9:49That's not going to change anything.
- 9:51And it's like, no shit, it's not going to change anything.
- 9:55It didn't take a month to gain this weight.
- 9:57It took years. And it's going to take years to
- 10:00lose it too. That's reality.
- 10:04And listen, I am not the prettiest girl I know, but have
- 10:08you ever noticed something funny?
- 10:11And a lot of the just, I've noticed this a lot because I'm
- 10:15getting now, you know, messages about it.
- 10:17And I look at the peoples, obviously I'm human.
- 10:19I look at the peoples you know page to see who it is at saying
- 10:24this stuff and a lot of the people leaving the meanest
- 10:26comments aren't exactly lookers themselves.
- 10:30And I'm not even saying this to be mean, it just proves
- 10:34something. Everyone has insecurities, even
- 10:36the pretty people, even the fit people, even the people
- 10:39pretending to be perfect online. Because at the end of the day,
- 10:42we are all human. Someone will always have more.
- 10:46There will always be someone who has more than you, more money,
- 10:50more help, more opportunities, a nicer house, a nicer car, a
- 10:54better body, more followers, more success.
- 10:57And that's OK, because comparison is a game you can
- 11:01basically never win. There will always be someone
- 11:04ahead of you, but there will also always be someone who
- 11:08wishes that they had what you have.
- 11:10Your family, your health, your story, your life.
- 11:15There are some plus size influencers that I follow
- 11:18because sometimes I want to see a different side of fitness,
- 11:22bodies that look a little bit more like mine and how they
- 11:26move. And I also follow the Super fit
- 11:29girls too. Both are really inspiring.
- 11:34Both are really inspiring, but the comments I see under these
- 11:37women's posts are honestly disgusting sometimes.
- 11:41So if you take anything from today's episode, let it be this.
- 11:45Be fucking kind. Kindness is free.
- 11:48If you don't like someone's content, skip it, block them,
- 11:51move on. And if you've ever been bullied,
- 11:56just know you're not alone. So many of us have experienced
- 12:00it, but we get through it and we come back better and stronger.
- 12:05Something I also realize recently is that I've spent a
- 12:10lot of my life waiting to basically live.
- 12:13I'll enjoy life when I'm more skinnier.
- 12:16I'll wear that when I lose weight.
- 12:18I'll travel when I have more money.
- 12:20But life doesn't work like that. Money, looks, they come and go.
- 12:26Life is happening now. Becoming a mom really showed me
- 12:30how fast life moves. One moment you're in one phase
- 12:35of life and the next, everything has changed.
- 12:39It's like day and night. So now I'm learning to just slow
- 12:42down, be present and actually enjoy the moments while they're
- 12:47here instead of waiting for something to happen.
- 12:51All right before we before I wrap up today's episode, I want
- 12:58to give you guys a quick update on 75 Hard journey because I
- 13:01have had a lot of new followers because of it.
- 13:05Like I said, I need to slow down in life.
- 13:08I'm like I've had so much coffee today it's crazy and actually I
- 13:13skipped breakfast, which is not good.
- 13:15I'll eat after this, but I back to 75 hard.
- 13:19I'm officially down 10 lbs, which feels really good, but the
- 13:25biggest change hasn't even been the weight.
- 13:28My mental health has improved so much.
- 13:30I I'm not going to say like I am 100% cure of like my anxiety and
- 13:36depression because I feel like it's always going to be with me.
- 13:39Like, for example, we went to the Nike outlet Saturday and
- 13:45yeah, I had a full Sunday, sorry.
- 13:47And I had a full blown panic attack because it was just so
- 13:51packed and it was just so many people.
- 13:53And yeah, so I am not 100% like cured of my anxiety, but
- 13:59honestly it has improved so much.
- 14:02Postpartum depression where guys, I have lowered my Prozac
- 14:07dosage, which was done, you know, with my doctor.
- 14:11And I'm so excited for that because although I'm a very big
- 14:15advocate of if you need medication, take it.
- 14:19I am also, I kind of want to, you know, detox my body from all
- 14:24that. But if I can't, that's perfectly
- 14:26fine too. And another thing that has
- 14:29really improved my gut health feels so much better.
- 14:33My body is starting to look feel better but more importantly I
- 14:39feel sexier again and let's just say my husband is definitely
- 14:43definitely benefiting from that. But overall I just feel just
- 14:48really good. I will be completely honest I
- 14:52wanted to quit the other day. I know I know my baby has been
- 14:58in such a mood teething and just so upset.
- 15:02I thought about just giving up because I couldn't get my second
- 15:06workout in. I kind of was just like I'm over
- 15:08it. Like I I, I'm done.
- 15:10But thank goodness my hubby was there and pushed me to continue.
- 15:14I'm so glad I did. I'm so glad I didn't give up.
- 15:19So many times in my life I've wanted to give up on myself
- 15:22because things just got too hard.
- 15:25I realized I just have to plan better, plan my days better, not
- 15:31let everything add up at the end.
- 15:33I'm down to day. Today is day 18 as I'm filming.
- 15:38So glad I didn't give up because obviously I see such a
- 15:42difference between day one and day 18 and it's just like the
- 15:46little things, you know, like my stomach's flatter.
- 15:49I'm not so freaking like inflamed my I just feel like I
- 15:55have had a shift in my hormones and yeah, I just glad I didn't
- 16:00give up. I will get stronger and it will
- 16:03be harder. I know it will.
- 16:06I mean, it is a full 75 days. I'm only at day 18.
- 16:10So I know that this isn't going to be the only time that I want
- 16:12to quit. But as long as I have the
- 16:16support and just know that this is something that I really want
- 16:19to do, I'm pretty sure no, I am sure that I'm going to complete
- 16:25this because my newest thing is I'm going to manifest
- 16:28everything, speak positively. I'm trying again not to be
- 16:33negative. So I will complete 75 hard.
- 16:37The one thing I missed though, Coke 0, if I'm really honest, I
- 16:43miss it so much. And yeah, so anyways, so with
- 16:48this whole whole food, you know, I have been just basically meal
- 16:52prepping, cooking every day. And do you guys remember how big
- 16:56cottage cheese was in the 90s? I do.
- 17:00Well, she's making a serious comeback.
- 17:02It's in so many recipes right now.
