- Jessica Figueroa: We are here together on the Just For Today podcast. And today we're going to talk about peeing in pools. I know what you're thinking, Cindy. Why are we talking about peeing in pools? Well, we're going to talk about it because an alarming amount of adults pee in pools. How about peeing in the shower? Did you know this is a hot topic? That's right. This is a hot topic about peeing in showers. Do you pee in the shower? Do you not pee in the shower? Does your spouse pee in the shower? Do you pee in the shower? Do you lie about being in the shower? Do you lie about being in pools? And why? Why do we lie about these things? Okay, is this a morals question? Is this a values question? No, this is a societal norms question. So the thing is, as humans, we want to fit into society. And as adults, we want to be seen as clean and respectable, and we want to manage our image, right? We want to manage our image of other what other people think of us. It's called impression management. We want to manage the impression other people have of us. So we don't necessarily offer up the information if we do childlike mature immature things, pick our nose. Although we've all seen someone driving in a car picking their nose, we all know we might even be talking into the microphone right now, people that have peed in pools as adults. And the desire to not have it be known is because we don't like to be embarrassed. Kids are more okay being embarrassed. Now, as adults, I'm not encouraging you to pee in pools. I really don't care if you pee in your shower or not. That's totally up to you. Just let me know if you do. And I come over and take a shower in your shower. And what day your cleaning lady comes. But the point is to think about how much are we managing the impression other people have of us rather than allowing people to have the impression of us of who we are. That's our just for today is are you in the habit of managing people's perception of you so much that it's just taking over? You know, it's one thing to say, you don't need to go around telling everyone, I pee in pools, I pee pools. But if you pee in pools all the time and you lie about it, maybe just get out of the pool and go to bathroom. You know, maybe cut it down from every time you're in the pool to every once in a while. But the point of this podcast episode. Is that we are all managing other people's impression of us, but some of us are doing it too much. Some of us some of us are too concerned about what other people think of us. Because some of us have some childlike behaviors, whether it's singing into a hairbrush or jumping into a puddle or doing a cannonball in the pool, that you're not doing because you're managing someone's impression of you. And we all have these childlike impulses and they're different for each of us. Some of us want to, you know, walk down an escalator backwards just because. But you're managing the impression of the people around you. But some of you want to run up a down escalator. I don't know. I don't know if you should or you shouldn't. But what I want you thinking about just for today is how much are you managing people's impression of you? And is it too much? That's it. Just think about it. And I'll see you tomorrow. And if you go swimming today, consider getting out and going to the bathroom. Or not, I'll talk to you tomorrow.
