- 0:00Hey, hey, soul tribe, welcome back to Peace in a pod.
- 0:05I'm Loretta for those that are new here, welcome.
- 0:09I hope that everyone has been having a wonderful start to
- 0:122026. And it had me thinking a little
- 0:16bit about some of the curveballs that 2025 was dishing out and
- 0:25not really knowing how to handle some of those situations and not
- 0:31being prepared for those types of situations, but managing my
- 0:37way through them and realizing that 2025, there was a lot of
- 0:43things that I was not aware about myself that was coming to
- 0:49the light. And one of those things was I
- 0:52actually was losing myself, like me as Loretta, I did not know
- 0:58who I was anymore. I was so like stuck in a world
- 1:03where it was, I was kind of like being driven by work, to be
- 1:07honest with you. And for my returning listeners,
- 1:12you've heard from the beginning when I started the podcast about
- 1:17some issues I was having at work with a certain supervisor, and I
- 1:24haven't really spoke on that much.
- 1:27I don't really talk about that stuff anymore.
- 1:29I like to not bring up bad energies.
- 1:35Not that I don't want to face them, but I've already dealt
- 1:37with that part of my life and moved on.
- 1:42And I don't really like want to just keep, I don't enjoy just
- 1:46constantly talking about it, talking about it because that
- 1:49doesn't get the same reaction that it used to.
- 1:51It's already done and over with. So I just let it be.
- 1:54But in that position that I was in, I, I was having this
- 2:00supervisor that I was allowing things to get to the point where
- 2:05I wasn't speaking up for myself. I wasn't really being me, the
- 2:10person that I, I knew years ago, I kind of lost.
- 2:14And in that role, I was just kind of like, well, you know, I
- 2:18don't want to ruffle any feathers.
- 2:19I'm just going to do what I need to do and, you know, make it
- 2:23through the day type of thing. And it got to the point where I
- 2:27pretty much given up all my power and I was lost, you know,
- 2:32I was. And I got to a point where I had
- 2:34to seek therapy in certain situations because it was like
- 2:38trying to talk to friends and family.
- 2:40You know, it can become a little bit exhausting when you're
- 2:45constantly talking to the same people about something that and,
- 2:48and, and you know, and it's like you don't want to overload them
- 2:55or come off as just someone who's complaining about life,
- 2:58complaining about their job all the time.
- 3:01And you, you just don't want to be put in a light where just,
- 3:04you can't seem to just be happy. So I started seeing the
- 3:08therapist to kind of help me get through some areas that I was
- 3:12going through emotionally and mentally.
- 3:16And when I was able to talk about these to a neutral person,
- 3:25these these experiences to a neutral person, it actually
- 3:28helped me like think differently from the way that I was normally
- 3:34approaching the experiences that I was going through.
- 3:39And I started realizing that I was basically losing my power by
- 3:44reacting the way that I was. And I didn't see that I am the
- 3:52director of my life, not my environment, you know, not my
- 3:57supervisor, not my friends and family, like I am the director
- 4:02of my life. We all are are the directors of
- 4:04our own life. And we have to like not allow
- 4:09ourselves to, to get drained or allow situations or people to
- 4:14drain us and make us feel weak or that we're less than.
- 4:19Not allowing those, those people and situations to control us in
- 4:23a way that makes, you know, like, feel like you don't have
- 4:26any power, like you don't have any say.
- 4:28So you don't have any control over anything.
- 4:30You just kind of, you know, show up, get to work and whatever
- 4:34they say, go type of thing. And it's like, no, you do have a
- 4:37voice. You can speak up and, and, and
- 4:40speak on things. And some people may not like
- 4:43what you say or what you have to say.
- 4:46And that's OK because we're not here to please people.
- 4:51It's not our our job to run around and being yes men and yes
- 4:56women. If there's something that you
- 4:59don't agree with, you have the right to speak up on it.
- 5:02And you know, I used to be the person that would speak up on
- 5:05things. But the problem is I was in a
- 5:08situation where I had someone who was not receptive to
- 5:11information. They had a bit of an ego and a
- 5:16narcissist personality to where they were like, I'm the boss.
- 5:20I'm, you know, I've been a supervisor for this, this amount
- 5:23of time, blah, blah, blah. And it's like no one wants your
- 5:26job, lady. I'm just simply providing some
- 5:29insight on how we can make things a little more efficient
- 5:32and maybe get the turnover rate down to where people would want
- 5:37to stay here longer. So for me, I had a, a voice of
- 5:41sharing ideas on to improve processes to improve the, the
- 5:46team. And it was not, it was not
- 5:49received well. So I had a bit of a different
- 5:52situation where I was speaking up on things that just the
- 5:57person just didn't care. Like it just that's the only way
- 6:01to explain it. She does not care.
- 6:03But going through all of that, I realized I had given away like
- 6:11almost all my power by the way I was responding, the way I was
- 6:15reacting in those situations. And I had to stop.
- 6:19I had to make some changes with me.
- 6:21I couldn't change her. I gave up on like, let me try
- 6:26this approach with her. Let me try that.
- 6:27No, because it was something that I needed to do and I was
- 6:32allowing certain I was allowing her to speak to me a certain
- 6:38way, that it took everything in my soul not to let that Lady
- 6:46have it. I'll be honest with you, I was
- 6:50trying to remain professional, but it took everything in me not
- 6:55to give her the business. But anyways, I was, I took the
- 6:59High Road, I stayed professional.
- 7:00But the problem is by me staying quiet, she just took that as
- 7:05like, you know, she still had the control and she still
- 7:07continued to speak to me a certain way.
- 7:09So eventually I just cut conversation like completely
- 7:12short and if she wasn't asking a direct work question or anything
- 7:17like that, if it wasn't work related, she didn't get a
- 7:19response from me. And I just kept it strictly
- 7:22business. Like don't ask me about my
- 7:24weekend, don't ask me about my trips or, or or you know, my
- 7:29family. Don't ask me nothing that is not
- 7:32work related. So I kept it very professional
- 7:35and cut pretty much all communication that wasn't
- 7:39specifically work related and that gave me quite a bit of my
- 7:44power back. And then whenever she would
- 7:47constantly hover and ask and, and trying to check on stuff,
- 7:52instead of me reacting, getting angry, feeling all upset about
- 7:59how she was, I just, you know, took a breath and I understood
- 8:05that is that is how she is. I'm not going to allow her to
- 8:13take my joy for the day. I have some work to do.
- 8:16I'm going to get my work done and that's going to be the end
- 8:18of it. So I didn't react the way that I
- 8:21used to. I changed my response, my
- 8:23reaction to her and by me not, you know, getting getting, you
- 8:28know, irritated, annoyed and angry about her and how she was
- 8:33and just accepting that that's just the type of person she is.
- 8:37I was able to just get through the days and not feel as
- 8:41stressed. But I will say my therapy did
- 8:44help. Going to talk to someone
- 8:46definitely help because when you hear someone else's advice on
- 8:53the situation, especially when you're already like your brain's
- 8:57already overwhelmed with so much going on you can't even think
- 8:59straight yourself. So talking to someone else
- 9:02definitely is is helpful. But for me, it, it opened my
- 9:07eyes to see that I was basically just giving all my power away
- 9:12and I was allowing that situation and that person to
- 9:16drain me and take, take full control.
- 9:20And, and I think, I think she knew exactly what she was doing.
- 9:23I'll be honest with you, I'm pretty sure she knew exactly
- 9:26what she was doing. And she felt like she had the
- 9:27upper hand cuz she would play like real nicety.
- 9:30And then like, as soon as I, I kind of feedback, you know, into
- 9:34what behavior she was dishing out, then she'd go right back to
- 9:39how she was the whole, there's this full blown narcissist vibes
- 9:43right there. But anyways, I, I did learn a
- 9:47lot about myself in 2025 because of those, those situations that
- 9:52I went through and the types of people that I've, I've
- 9:55experienced throughout the year that that actually helped me
- 10:00understand that I had given away my power.
- 10:04And it helped me understand that I need to get my power back and
- 10:08reclaim the control over my own life, my thoughts and my
- 10:12emotions and not, you know, feel diminished by people or the
- 10:17situations. So once I was able to understand
- 10:22what was going on with me and and why I always felt tired and
- 10:27sick all the time. Once I, I, I understood what was
- 10:32happening that I was literally just drained.
- 10:37I was able to take my power back and I set some firm boundaries.
- 10:45I focused on myself worth because I knew I was busting my
- 10:49tail at work doing everything I could in that role and 0
- 10:54appreciation. But for me, I had to understand,
- 10:57I had to teach myself that the way that I would treat people is
- 11:03not the same that they would treat me.
- 11:08I can't expect them to reciprocate the same energy that
- 11:13I'm putting out because we're all different.
- 11:15We're all different people here. And I have the, I think I'm a
- 11:22very caring, kind hearted, loving individual.
- 11:26And I understand that not everyone in this world are very
- 11:31kind, loving, caring people. And they're not going to treat
- 11:36people the way that I think that people should be treated.
- 11:40People are going to treat folks how they feel.
- 11:42And if they feel like they can get something out of whatever
- 11:45situation they're in, some kind of power, some kind of ego
- 11:48stroke, money, whatever, they're going to do that.
- 11:57If they're not the type of person who just wants to show
- 12:01and care and and be kind to people.
- 12:04And I understand that. So now I don't even like, I
- 12:07don't approach people with any type of expectations of they
- 12:09should and why can't people? How come they don't?
- 12:14We're all different. We're all different.
- 12:17People are driven in life by different things.
- 12:21I choose to allow love and the kindness of my heart to drive me
- 12:26with my decisions in life. I'm not going to be out here
- 12:28just pooping all over folks trying to get to the top.
- 12:33And some people, you know, they don't care that they want to
- 12:37have the power, they want the control.
- 12:39They allow their ego to drive them into their future and you
- 12:43know, to what it is that they're seeking.
- 12:45But once I was able to set those firm boundaries, I focused on
- 12:50myself, worth and took responsibility for my own
- 12:54reactions and stop relying on external validation.
- 13:00I felt so relieved, so relieved that I was able to make some
- 13:10clear headed decisions to move forth and focus on me and my
- 13:16mental health and my physical health, my spiritual health, my
- 13:22emotional health. And when I started focusing on
- 13:26me, everything shifted. I stopped looking externally for
- 13:33solutions and started looking internally because the answers
- 13:37were already within me. But I was so frustrated at at
- 13:41how everything was going. And it's like, why won't these
- 13:43people listen? And you know, I have great ideas
- 13:46and what's wrong with these people?
- 13:49After a while, it just became, you know what, I'm exhausting
- 13:53myself way too much, putting way too much energy and passion into
- 13:58this. And I need to turn all of that
- 14:00around and, and put all of that energy and passion into myself.
- 14:05And it was probably the best decision I ever made for 2025.
- 14:09I'll be honest with you. So if you find yourself feeling
- 14:13like you're just exhausted, drained, you're not being heard,
- 14:20you're not being valued, maybe take a look and see who's
- 14:27controlling your power, who's directing your life?
- 14:31What's directing your life? Is it your surroundings that's
- 14:35directing your life? Or is it you that's directing
- 14:38your life? Taking your power back is about
- 14:44shifting from feeling like a victim to being an an empowered
- 14:52individual, recognizing your inherent strength and choosing
- 14:59how to respond to the world. Thank you all so much for tuning
