- Jessica Figueroa: Hi everyone. I love getting to spend this couple minutes with you every day. So today, on today's episode, we are going to talk about what we can do just for today to improve our communication. We are going to avoid crutch words. Crutch words are things we use as fillers in our speech. These give us the ability to think. Sometimes we don't know what to say. Often we use them instead of better vocabulary, better verbs. Crutch words would be things like, so actually. Literally. These are words we use in our language that show that we don't have a great vocabulary or we're not using a great vocabulary. Often what needs to be said instead of the crutch word is simply just nothing. Nothing can be said. So today we're going to avoid crutch words. We're going to be aware of when we say like, so because literally, actually. We're going to be aware we're going to avoid those words. When we improve how we communicate. Then it improves how people communicate with us. But our communication improves when we first improve how we communicate. So just for today, we are going to be aware and avoid all crutch words. This is going to take, if you've never done this exercise, it's going to take a lot of time and intention and thought and catching yourselves. And you'll find that you really don't know better verbs to use instead of like. I was like, I was like, she was like, but through time and intention throughout the day. you will find yourself coming and re re pulling out those better verbs that you had at one time had. So just for today, I want you to avoid using any crutch words in your communication, all communication, text, talking, and in person, because we can do anything just for today.
