- 0:11Hello, and welcome back to the Mindsets Podcast.
- 0:13Now, you might notice a couple of changes.
- 0:15First one, Charles, we're in a different location.
- 0:17Looking good doesn't. It it is, well, if you also
- 0:20might notice if you came from Charlie's channel, that
- 0:23Charlie's not on screen right now, but he's here with us.
- 0:25How are you doing, Charlie? I'm good, thanks.
- 0:27How are you? Excellent.
- 0:28Thank you very much for coming back on Because You Were Here
- 0:31Episode 37, I believe. It's been a while.
- 0:33Yeah, 2 years I want to say maybe.
- 0:37Two years. Well, two years ago I didn't.
- 0:38I don't think we'd even met. How crazy is that?
- 0:42That is wild. For those of you that also
- 0:44haven't, there's those crazy that don't know as well.
- 0:47Charlie and I work quite closely together.
- 0:48I'm the guy that does his YouTube so I follow him around
- 0:51with a camera normally. However, this time I've come the
- 0:54other side of it and I get to pester him on your guys behalf.
- 0:58Charles, you weren't here with the last one.
- 1:00I wasn't, no. You've been excited about this
- 1:01for a while because you've got lots of questions.
- 1:03The Mindsets podcast are a big fan of Charlie.
- 1:05And Charlie, hopefully is. I mean, Charlie's been writing
- 1:07in with a lot of things. We haven't exposed him on some
- 1:09of them, but today you can't. He can't hide behind the
- 1:12keyboard. I cannot hide and I must say
- 1:15this is probably my favorite podcast.
- 1:17There you go. Well, not probably.
- 1:19It is my favorite podcast. We actually listen to every I
- 1:22was going. To say we had to pay a.
- 1:23Lot. I've actually listened to every
- 1:25episode you've released I think since.
- 1:29Really, there we go. So if that is if if this is your
- 1:31first time listening, hit subscribe now, go over to
- 1:34Spotify, Apple podcast, wherever you normally listen to your
- 1:37podcast, follow rates, five stars straight away and then go
- 1:40back through all of those 80 episodes now.
- 1:43See if you can find Charlie's original episode.
- 1:46You'll enjoy that a lot because this is before, a lot has
- 1:48changed for him since then. So this episode we're going to
- 1:51do a bit more of a run through of what has happened in those
- 1:53last two years, kind of catch up, maybe fill in some of the
- 1:56gaps that you may not have already known.
- 1:57And then we are going to do a part, which will be episode 81,
- 2:00where we actually get into the nitty gritty of Charlie's
- 2:02training, which we're very, very excited to do.
- 2:04However, the first thing we do on this podcast, Charlie, as
- 2:07you'll recognise, is we do the news.
- 2:10So we will come to you at the end of the news if you have any
- 2:13other news updates that you know of in the sporting world.
- 2:15But we're going to try and do this in 2 minutes.
- 2:18OK so I'm going to bring my laptop up here for this because.
- 2:21There's a lot. Going on to get through OK, are
- 2:23you going to set the timer? 321.
- 2:27OK, so first of all, we're going to ignore some big things that
- 2:29are going on in the world right now because they're very scary,
- 2:30but we're going to move straight into Brigid.
- 2:32Cosguy set a new course record in the Tokyo Marathon with the
- 2:36victory at 2 hours, 14 minutes and 29 seconds.
- 2:40Pretty impressive. Another running feat.
- 2:42Do you want to go through this one?
- 2:43You've got it in front of you. Keely Hodgkinson world record in
- 2:46the 800 meters indoors set a 154.87 seconds to smash a world
- 2:51record since the 3rd of March 2002, which is incidentally the
- 2:54day she was born. Up next, Six Nations is back
- 2:58this coming weekend. So there's been no changes since
- 3:01our last episode in schools or anything like that.
- 3:02Excited for that to come back. However, what I will say because
- 3:05you're listening to this after the weekend has been that the
- 3:07Six Nations is back, is that France probably beat Scotland,
- 3:11Ireland probably beat Wales by a lot and England probably
- 3:14narrowly beat Italy in an embarrassing fashion.
- 3:17Then also since the last episode came out, the Hierarchs calendar
- 3:22has been announced. That's come out through a pretty
- 3:25cool release, but you guys know more about that than I do
- 3:27currently. CrossFit Open 26.2, that comes
- 3:30out later today for us because we're listening to it.
- 3:32We're going to talk to Charlie about CrossFit 26.1 because he's
- 3:36actually done pretty well in that.
- 3:38The next thing in the CrossFit world is that Don Fowl is
- 3:40stepping down very imminently. And one more thing in the
- 3:43CrossFit world is there is a new competition on the cards.
- 3:45Zenom has come in. It seems to be some sort of high
- 3:49rocks take on CrossFit but not for those people that are skinny
- 3:52and run fast like we all try to be.
- 3:55Final news is that KSI has bought Dagenham and Red Bridge
- 3:58Football Club. Like the whole club.
- 4:00He's now the owner, which is pretty full circle.
- 4:02I remember watching KSI when I was really young and he was
- 4:05doing race to Division One FIFA trying to get his team into
- 4:08Division One. Now he's doing in real life
- 4:09which is crazy. That was the news.
- 4:12How did I do 145 that was? Spot on, I'm actually quite
- 4:15impressed with. That was good.
- 4:16He started talking very quickly. Charlie, I said I'd come.
- 4:19Back to you. He's been waiting, I think.
- 4:22That was the countdown, the countdown noise.
- 4:24Something was happening. Charlie, have you got any other
- 4:26news that you are aware of in the sporting world?
- 4:28News in the sporting world. I have no news and.
- 4:33Straight back to me in the studio.
- 4:35So we need to talk about the 26.1 just very quickly.
- 4:40So for anyone who doesn't know, my background's in CrossFit and
- 4:42I've been doing CrossFit for this is my 9th CrossFit Open.
- 4:45So as I always do, I go on the leaderboard and I'm checking
- 4:49who's doing well in the UK. I'm going along as obviously the
- 4:52the usual suspects. You got Harry Lightfoot at the
- 4:54top, Tom Kingdom and then Michael Smith from from Ireland
- 4:58#4 are you still #4? I was #3 or #4 last time I
- 5:02tried. When I looked, it was he was #4
- 5:04his very, yeah, very own Charlie bottle.
- 5:06Hybrid rock star in person. Well first of all I have to say
- 5:10when I saw the work out I was thinking.
- 5:12Considering that CrossFit athletes typically don't like
- 5:16Hierarchs athletes not not like fistfight, don't like, but like.
- 5:20There's a bit of a barrier between the two of them to have
- 5:22the first workout be very well suited to someone who's very
- 5:25well primed for. Hierarchs So the way it usually
- 5:27works and and has traditionally always gone in the open is the
- 5:30first workout is like much more accessible and it's kind of like
- 5:33a marketing tool to get more people involved in it because
- 5:36they look at it and go, there's no heavy barbell, there's no
- 5:38technical gymnastics. Oh, I give this a go and I'll
- 5:40pay $20 and sign up. And then the subsequent week is
- 5:44like heavy barbell hard gymnastics.
- 5:47And they kind of stopped doing it from there.
- 5:48But last year as well, there was burpees, lunges and hand
- 5:51cleaning jet, which is again fairly accessible.
- 5:54The year before was dumbbell snatch and burpee.
- 5:56So it was a very good hyroxy workout as proven by Charlie's
- 6:01performance, right? Yeah.
- 6:02So again, just for context, I can't remember exactly how many
- 6:05wobbles it was 200 and 46246 wobbles.
- 6:09And then box step over, sometimes with the ball,
- 6:11sometimes without the ball in a time cap of 12 minutes.
- 6:14Do you know off the top of your head, either of you, how many
- 6:17people have finished the workout worldwide?
- 6:19So few but there's more women or the women are producing faster
- 6:23times than the men. But I think it was something
- 6:25crazy like 11 women or 11 men or something had finished, which is
- 6:30like crazy to think. Whereas usually in an open
- 6:33workout, hundreds and hundreds of people are finishing it.
- 6:35So like it was a very tight time cap.
- 6:37And the women thing will be because of.
- 6:39The slightly lower target and the faster and the slightly
- 6:42lower box. But yeah, it's crazy.
- 6:45So what's your review, Charlie of the workout?
- 6:48How did you take well, why did you do it for a start?
- 6:52And then how did you actually find it when you're going
- 6:54through? It I did it on a very, very,
- 6:58very last minute decision. I was there.
- 7:01I was there to help my friends, like during the actual thing in
- 7:04our gym. And then one of my CrossFit
- 7:07friends, Dan, if you're watching, I was like, oh, he's
- 7:10a, he's a hybrid rock star. He can't do the CrossFit open.
- 7:13So I signed up and then I did it.
- 7:18Because you train at a CrossFit affiliate.
- 7:20Yeah, so I trained at CrossFit socks and like I'd already
- 7:24trained a couple of times that day and it was kind of just
- 7:27another bit of fun really. Normally war balls don't suit
- 7:32me. Normally I hate war balls, but I
- 7:34have been practicing my war balls and I actually did them
- 7:39unbroken. I did the 66 unbroken.
- 7:42I think I actually broke on the 4th, the 2nd 40, but that was
- 7:45more just because I carried the Med ball making a bear hug and I
- 7:49was like, yeah, that wasn't. So you started.
- 7:51Breathing rather than like leg fatigue.
- 7:53Yeah, interesting. But no, I really enjoyed it like
- 7:57I thought it was. It's one of those workouts that
- 8:00is just capacity. It's like complete raw capacity,
- 8:02but then seeing some of the woman's times.
- 8:05And have you seen the video of Miriam von Rohl doing it?
- 8:08Because she's she'll, she'll, she'll go tonight again.
- 8:11Didn't she have a the box the long way round as well?
- 8:14When she was doing the step overs, it wasn't just.
- 8:15Like I haven't seen her step overs.
- 8:17Yeah, so she she literally, you know how you have the one long
- 8:20when she was doing it that way, which like, I don't know if that
- 8:22was an easier thing for her, but that's more impressive because
- 8:25like it should. Take longer, but maybe it slowed
- 8:27her down to a point where she could recover a bit more.
- 8:29I think she's going tonight against Amy Kringle and Lucy
- 8:32Campbell, which are two best British girls for the 26.2
- 8:35announcement, but assuming you're going to do 26.2 as well.
- 8:39TBC depends because I've got a high rocks race four days after,
- 8:42so if it's something that's going to give me a lot of Doms
- 8:45then. Not worth it, right?
- 8:46Yeah, then I've got I've got bigger fish to fry.
- 8:48Yeah, Yeah. Well, I mean, talking about all
- 8:50of these different options that you've now got in your fitness.
- 8:52Last time we spoke, and I'm not going to spoil the last episode
- 8:55for those that did want to go back and listen to it, but last
- 8:57time we spoke, you're in a very different place in High Rocks
- 9:01from my recollection of the time and knowing you, knowing you and
- 9:04talking to you about it. You're going to World Champs a
- 9:06few weeks after you're going to Nice.
- 9:09And I don't know how many pro races you've done at that point,
- 9:12but you were very much early on, you were very, very, I mean, you
- 9:15still are very eager, but you were very, very eager for
- 9:17hierarchs like discovering it all.
- 9:18You kind of knew where you wanted to go with it, but like
- 9:21you knew that at that particular instant, you probably weren't
- 9:24there. So do you want to talk us
- 9:27through really what happened in Nice and that following season?
- 9:31Because you, in that following season, went from not being too
- 9:34happy with your Nice result to suddenly you're now like, your
- 9:39name's out there. Yeah.
- 9:41So I mean, when we had that podcast, that was I'll say in
- 9:45months, 21 months ago I think. And then my at that time I'd
- 9:51done 4 pro races and my PB is one hour and 2 minutes.
- 9:57Obviously Nice didn't quite go to plan.
- 10:01I wanted to try and like win the age group in my age group, and I
- 10:09won't say who, but there was a few sponsors that if I did do
- 10:12well, would have signed me essentially.
- 10:15And then because I didn't do well, one of them kind of just
- 10:18pulled the rug out, which was quite, quite frustrating.
- 10:22And that kind of would have been the catalyst for me to be able
- 10:24to maybe go full time the next year just as like a young a
- 10:28young British guy. But say the way like you didn't
- 10:32go to plan. I cramped up and I think I did a
- 10:34one hour, 11 minutes or something like that.
- 10:37Do you feel like you'd? Put more pressure on yourself
- 10:39for that race because of those potential sponsors.
- 10:42Yeah. And like, like, I won't say who,
- 10:45but some of the heads of those sponsors were at the race
- 10:49watching. But like, it's one of those
- 10:53things. And I think it's kind of almost
- 10:55helped me now having something like fail that badly that now I
- 11:02look back at it and I don't want something like that to happen
- 11:05again. So I did that and then the next
- 11:09summer I kind of worked hard, worked on a few weaknesses and
- 11:13then went into Birmingham in 2024, the end of 2024 and ran a
- 11:21one hour and 4 seconds in the men's pro.
- 11:24And ironically, I was 20 seconds behind Tim Vienish in that race,
- 11:29who later became the High Rocks World champion that season.
- 11:34And that race was kind of a bit of like I wanted to do better.
- 11:41I expected better of myself. And then the remainder of the
- 11:45year, I kind of just decided to race as much as possible and I
- 11:50knew that I wasn't in the position fitness wise to go and
- 11:53put out a standout result. That's just like an amazing
- 11:58time. But I knew that I could just
- 12:01from my background and cycling, I could go and race four times
- 12:04in a weekend and do well in all four of them.
- 12:06And that happened in Manchester in January of 2025 where I did
- 12:11all the double S and then that relay as well.
- 12:14And then the following month I ran my first first sub sixty
- 12:19men's pro, which ironically was about a year ago.
- 12:23I was going. To say, you put a post up today
- 12:24for us recording where yeah, you just, you shared and it what was
- 12:28the time on that? So I ran 5747.
- 12:32Which is like a good chunk. Of a huge chunk off, yeah.
- 12:35The only thing I can compare this to, and I said this to
- 12:38someone recently, when I first bench pressed 100 kilos, I was
- 12:41able to do 95 kilos for seven reps but was unable to do 100
- 12:45for one. And then as soon as like it
- 12:47happened, suddenly I could do 100 for five.
- 12:49And I wonder if it was like the similar sort of mentality thing
- 12:51of like crossing that bridge from being a like not being a
- 12:54sub 60 athlete to being a sub 60 athlete.
- 12:57Was that more mental do you think than physical?
- 13:01Yeah, and I think it's once you know what works, you can just
- 13:06rinse and repeat. And since then I've just rinsed
- 13:09and repeated what I've done and it's working.
- 13:13And hopefully, well, we're recording this the week and two
- 13:18weeks before. Hopefully it kind of goes even
- 13:20better in Glasgow and London. Because similar sort of time, I
- 13:25remember you and your double S partner, Holly Russell, he also
- 13:29started going sub hour sort of times in his solos.
- 13:32And then you guys decided we're going to take on this last
- 13:35chance qualifier as a pro double S pairing, which was also in
- 13:38London. So coming up to a year ago and
- 13:41there were a few big names in that race.
- 13:43Did you know that you were going to be in the same wave as the
- 13:45other big names and that you were going to be contenders
- 13:46straight away? Or did you kind of just keep
- 13:48yourself to the sideline mentally before going into that?
- 13:51The the goal and ambition there was always to qualify, I didn't
- 13:56expect, but at no point did we really think we would win it.
- 14:02We did think it would kind of be a fight for that third spot,
- 14:07just with like Heli and Thierry being there, obviously Jake and
- 14:10Alan and then few French pairings, few British pairings.
- 14:14Like there's a lot of strong, strong pairs there.
- 14:19And then, yeah, literally. But it came down to like
- 14:22wobbles, didn't it? Literally like a couple of reps,
- 14:25one Rep. I think that was 7 or 8 seconds
- 14:29between first place and 4th. Place.
- 14:31So, yeah, yeah. And yeah, like I remember being
- 14:35at those wobbles and I took the ball at 80.
- 14:38I looked to my left there on 80. I looked to my right there on
- 14:4180. And it was literally just.
- 14:43Who can hang on who? Could hold their nerve and the
- 14:46other two pairs both got no reps in like the 90 fives 96's and
- 14:51that that ended up being the difference and it was literally
- 14:54just who could hold their nerve so.
- 14:57What was really difficult for me about that situation?
- 15:00So obviously I've been friends with Charlie, as we've said,
- 15:02since just before the, well, a couple of months before that
- 15:05first ever podcast. So when it was you finally
- 15:07getting to this moment and like seeing you officially become an
- 15:10early 15 athlete you wanted, that was like huge.
- 15:13But I was in the start pen. I remember this so.
- 15:17Yeah, so Charles is business partner for Rocks Training, so
- 15:20they do Pyrox coaching. Very good at it.
- 15:22Hugh, I was racing the Hue because you were injured and so
- 15:26I'd seen you come into the wobbles and I was like he's.
- 15:29Like peeking through the. Curtain in the back knowing like
- 15:33you've said recently to someone about the chip time being when
- 15:35you start. So like everyone else had gone
- 15:38and I was just saying, Hugh, I'm not leaving until like I know
- 15:40who's won. And I would, I could just see
- 15:42the warble counters and them all matching up and then just like
- 15:45focusing in and realising you being in the middle of the top
- 15:47three like this. Is it like it's happening?
- 15:51So we crossed the line and then Hugh basically grabbed my arm
- 15:53and off we went. And I, I had no other context to
- 15:56what was going on and I couldn't come over and say anything.
- 15:58But we just hit the dance floor ourselves.
- 16:01But it must have been an unreal moment.
- 16:02Did you have that sort of realization of like, I've done
- 16:05it because like, your face as you cross the line, you're very
- 16:08happy. But like, did it hit home
- 16:09straight away? Oh, yeah.
- 16:10And I think it's like when you work hard, like really hard for
- 16:16something and you start to see it sort of slowly taking shape,
- 16:22you kind of realize like, oh, all the stuff I've done in the
- 16:25past three years is kind of work towards this and then this will
- 16:29work to whatever I've got coming up in the next three years.
- 16:34So yeah, like I, I was like over the moon.
- 16:38I don't think there's many like ways to describe it.
- 16:41It was just like a pretty surreal feeling.
- 16:43And it was great having my, my dad was there, loads of my
- 16:46friends were there. And it was great seeing them
- 16:50afterwards and just taking it all in.
- 16:52And then obviously we did the relay later in the day, which
- 16:55was absolutely brutal, which I'll probably never do again
- 17:00after having such a dopamine high.
- 17:02And then you're just dead on the sideline for the relay.
- 17:05But I was. Also in that relay.
- 17:07Yeah. And I'd never done sled push in
- 17:08a relay before. I could not have managed that
- 17:11worse. It was awful.
- 17:13And what what was really painful was me and my friends were
- 17:15hoping that we would keep up with you for the most part.
- 17:17And like out of the back of the sled push, arguably my fault you
- 17:20were gone. Absolutely gone.
- 17:22The sled push. I did the sled push and the
- 17:26relay world champs and doing an all out K into a pro sled push
- 17:32is brutal. Absolutely horrific.
- 17:35And then having to Sprint that last 50 meters was even worse.
- 17:40Like my calves were in absolute agony.
- 17:42It was. Just like hobbling along so.
- 17:44I mean, Charlie, you've got a future in podcasting because
- 17:46that's a really nice segue into the next thing.
- 17:48So World Champs Chicago, your main focus was to go and race
- 17:53with Ollie and then all of a sudden watching the men's solo
- 17:55race, Jake did and pulls up injuries, not looking too great.
- 17:59And he's the the was it Team England?
- 18:01Were we team England or Yeah, yeah, Team England.
- 18:03He was team England captain. Now, I also know that you were
- 18:06hoping you might get a chance with team Scotland because
- 18:09you've got I mean, kind of like I do, you've got some Scottish
- 18:13in you. So there's a there's a there was
- 18:16the opportunity there. But then Jake, did he just shoot
- 18:18you a text message? Yeah.
- 18:20And I think he, because I've, I've done a lot of relays and
- 18:24I've done quite well in the relays.
- 18:27Yeah, just shot me a text message on the Friday morning, I
- 18:30think it was. The race was in the Friday
- 18:33evening and I was like, it's a good opener session.
- 18:38You always like a run out. And yeah, and like Till
- 18:41mentioned on the live stream that if someone, if someone
- 18:43gives me an opportunity to race, I will race.
- 18:47And before then I'd never like, I never represented any country
- 18:54like in an elite race. And I see it like in football
- 18:58where once, once you've represented a country, that's
- 19:01like you've made your decision. So I've now kind of stuck myself
- 19:06with England, which I'm quite I'm quite happy with at the
- 19:08moment because I think with the new ranking system, I'm now
- 19:11England team captain for this year as it stands, which is
- 19:15quite a funny I. Can't wait to race in the elite
- 19:17of the relay. Drama doesn't appreciate.
- 19:19You I love where your. Thought process is going on that
- 19:23which. Is quite funny.
- 19:24I think it's either me or Lucy Proctor at the moment which
- 19:27could obviously change. It's like 4 months away till
- 19:30world shows. But yeah, like I went in and I
- 19:34did the relay. Sorry, did you, did you know you
- 19:36were like was the text message, Charlie, do you want to do the
- 19:39relay you're doing these two stations or was it like a
- 19:43discussion a little bit? It was like, do you want to do
- 19:45the relay? You'll be doing the two stations
- 19:47I was meant to do because normally I'm on the ski in the
- 19:51row in the relay. That's what I thought, yeah, I
- 19:54got the row at least. But yeah, I did the sled push
- 19:57and thankfully I got him before Team New Zealand because High
- 20:01Rocks only put out one pro men sled.
- 20:03Yes, they had to wait for you to finish.
- 20:05Yeah, that's. Honestly, mentor isn't it.
- 20:08Well, I remember pushing it back on the second length and seeing
- 20:11him stood there and I was like, why on earth you stood there?
- 20:14And then I clocked, oh wait, there's no other pro sleds.
- 20:18But yeah, that was that was really fun.
- 20:20I really enjoyed that. And it was quite cool being in
- 20:22the lead of that race as well. So yeah, I enjoyed that.
- 20:28Cool. And then, I mean, next day, wake
- 20:31up, back out on the course with Ollie this time.
- 20:36Talk me through that. I mean, you've spoken a little
- 20:38bit before on your YouTube, but yeah, how did that sort of go
- 20:43for you? And as a double, how did you
- 20:45think it go it went? It didn't.
- 20:47It didn't go anywhere near as well as I'd hoped or as well as
- 20:51Ollie had hoped and I was quite. It was a very similar situation
- 20:56to Nice. I've not really spoken about it,
- 20:59but obviously now I'm with Nike. Nike were very, very like my
- 21:07performance in the solos as what they were cared about more, and
- 21:11the fact that I wasn't doing the solos at the age groups and
- 21:13world champs could have been a bit of an issue.
- 21:16And then I was a bit worried after we didn't really place too
- 21:18well in the Elite Double S race that maybe I'd kind of spawn
- 21:22that opportunity. Thankfully, I didn't.
- 21:25He's wearing it, you know, Shout out.
- 21:29But yeah, like that race was kind of you really could tell
- 21:37how good the best guys in the world are in that race.
- 21:41And some of the running times that were being put out were
- 21:44just absolutely nuts. And I think, I think it was just
- 21:50kind of a bit of a, not a wake up call, but that I really need
- 21:55to just push on and spend the next four months over summer
- 21:59just like working away and just not necessarily pulling the
- 22:06carrot too many times as I like to say in training.
- 22:10But then really when it counts and races, make a statement and
- 22:14work hard. I feel like off the back of that
- 22:17and this, this could be completely wrong.
- 22:19But having followed you on on social media, it was after that
- 22:22where it's like, I definitely felt like there was an increase
- 22:26in maybe volume or maybe just the amount you were sharing.
- 22:29But like, you definitely like, buckle down and just like, put
- 22:32your head in the sand and was like, I'm going to do more of
- 22:35this, more of this, more of this, just going to become the
- 22:37fittest I can possibly be. Is that kind of a shift in your
- 22:40training, do you reckon? Yeah, so after World Champs I
- 22:44was like, it's now or never. And if I want to do well at
- 22:49this, I have to kind of go completely all in.
- 22:53So I saved up money for a few years and I was like, I've got
- 22:56enough money here for six months.
- 22:59I can train full time and if I run out of money before I get
- 23:04sponsors, looks like I'm going back to work full time.
- 23:08So I, I left my job after that, which they completely understood
- 23:12and they, I still train at that gym every single day.
- 23:18And yeah, so I went full time in the summer.
- 23:22Obviously I could focus a bit more on volume and increasing
- 23:25that and then focus more on recovery.
- 23:28And over the four month period, I just got fitter and once you
- 23:34like, if you continue to stack bricks, eventually you'll build
- 23:37a wall. And I just built a wall high
- 23:40enough where I can now compete with the top guys.
- 23:42And at that point, had you already been like, look, I want
- 23:45to be Elite 15, you'd already made that decision to go like, I
- 23:49know I can compete with these top guys.
- 23:50This is I just need to do the work.
- 23:53Oh yeah, from. Or like, how early had you like
- 23:56consciously had that conversation with yourself?
- 24:00Was it before world Champs in Chicago?
- 24:02Was it like earlier, like closer to nice time?
- 24:04You're like, I can be one of the best here.
- 24:06In all honesty, and I've been like this my my whole life, if I
- 24:14know that if I put my mind something, I can be the best in
- 24:19the world in it. And I know that fortunately,
- 24:23just from all the sports I've done genetically, I am, I'm well
- 24:28off like I'm in a good position genetically where I am good
- 24:32naturally at endurance sports. And I knew that when I started
- 24:38this, I could become an elite 15 athlete and I could be one of
- 24:44the best in the world. And that's now I ran my first
- 24:48race and I ran a 111 one hour, 11 minute open.
- 24:53And I knew from that point, like if I do everything in my power
- 24:58over the next 34567, however long it takes years, I could be
- 25:03one of the best in the world. And the first three years you
- 25:09didn't see like any of that potential.
- 25:13I was kind of just the kid who raced a lot, but all of that
- 25:17kind of compounds. And like, like they say,
- 25:20overnight success takes 10 years.
- 25:22And then once you like, and then once I've kind of accumulated
- 25:29all that specific volume and learned my body, I then could go
- 25:34and achieve what I've done so far and hopefully what I'm going
- 25:37to do in the future. But yeah, to answer the question
- 25:40like I've. It's been from like day one
- 25:42where you're like, I can be. It's such like a fast and we
- 25:45talk about mindset on the podcast all the time.
- 25:47And like I always say it to be the best you honestly that it's
- 25:51like so much self belief and it's really cool to actually
- 25:54hear that. And and you you reference like
- 25:57your first ever race. Go back to Charlie's YouTube
- 26:00because there's footage. I think it's your first video,
- 26:04whether you put that together. You gave me the footage, I put
- 26:06it's. Like footage of your first ever
- 26:08High Rocks race, which is really cool and probably awesome for
- 26:10you to be able to like look back and go, yeah, I went in the
- 26:13wrong station at the wrong time. And like everyone makes that
- 26:16that silly mistake on their first race.
- 26:18But it's it's awesome to see. One of the the things which I
- 26:22think is like a little insider knowledge that I don't think it
- 26:26came up on your YouTube yet, but in the sort of shift after World
- 26:30Champs where you were like locked in on your training
- 26:34represent on their first like ultra 24/7 on the 24th of July
- 26:41event. And it was it was kind of like a
- 26:43backyard ultra. Every hour on the hour for 12
- 26:45hours, you had to run 5.1 kilometres.
- 26:48So not miles like a normal backyard ultra, but it was still
- 26:50trails just outside of Manchester.
- 26:53But then in the remaining time and you're in teams of five, you
- 26:55had to skier as far as you could and you got points for every 250
- 26:59meters and you got points for every person in your team that
- 27:01completed the 5K loop. Now, very early on, I'm I, I was
- 27:06invited like 48 hours to go to join a team and I've rocked up
- 27:09and I've got Charlie there. I've also got Sean Noble and
- 27:12there's just other massive March on Ollie March on.
- 27:15Was there just big names in fitness that are rocked up?
- 27:17And I'm like, wow, I'm out of my depth, but I reckon I'm going to
- 27:21be right on the ski egg. It's the running that could be
- 27:23the problem. And from my experience, what I
- 27:27saw was you went off real hard and so did a bunch of other
- 27:31people that I knew there and I was like, I'm just going to take
- 27:33this easy because I didn't know about this until like a week
- 27:35ago. Then the smallest flex I'm going
- 27:39to have on this whole world cast, I overtook Charlie on my
- 27:42lap 5 and you were not looking very happy at that.
- 27:45Point I was, I think I chundered 5 or 6 times on that lap.
- 27:49What had? Happened.
- 27:50I I I know that fuelling is vital for a 12 hour race.
- 27:54I over fuelled and Oh my word I paid for it.
- 27:58I think lap five took me like 37 minutes.
- 28:02So bear in mind like we're 25K and Charlie's more than fit
- 28:04enough to run 25 K. The thing that people weren't
- 28:06accounting for because there were a lot of experienced
- 28:08fuellers and athletes there. No one was really accounting for
- 28:11the fact that you do this 5K pretty hard and then you come in
- 28:16and rather than like in normal backyard ultra having time to
- 28:19recover, you're now doing your bit on the skier.
- 28:21Which those of you who should be very familiar with the fact that
- 28:24it's an up and down movement. If you've just put food and
- 28:27drink in you and then you're doing that as hard and fast as
- 28:29you can, as a lot of teams were it, there's a high chance that's
- 28:32going to come back up. So when when people started
- 28:35being sick and you were not the only one, I can't say I was that
- 28:38surprised by it. And like to put that into
- 28:40perspective you like was it, did I read like your last 25 KS of
- 28:45the Ultra were both? Sub 20 he came back on like the
- 28:49maddest resurgence. Yeah, so I did.
- 28:54Our ten was 18-30 something, our 11 was 1820 something, and our
- 29:02twelve was 18-10 something. And what?
- 29:04So what was the total kilometers?
- 29:0660 something. Yeah, it must have been 60 and
- 29:10change. Perfect.
- 29:11Yeah. So you so like ultra marathon
- 29:14distance in? Yeah, running 35 kilometres
- 29:16faster than I've ever run them in trails.
- 29:18It's not OK. It's not OK.
- 29:20And also actually, no. Let's talk about the wildest
- 29:21thing on the last one. So you came in and what was it,
- 29:2518 something? Yeah.
- 29:26So you came in at 18 something before the second person came
- 29:29in. How far had you got on the
- 29:30Skiog? 2nd on my team or second just in
- 29:33general? 2nd In General I.
- 29:34Think over, OK. That's insane.
- 29:37Can you imagine? No.
- 29:38No. I remember, I remember going so
- 29:42ironically that riving some event without bringing Nike up
- 29:45again, but Nike his free advertisement, like after that
- 29:48they kind of kick things on. So that was like a really
- 29:50important thing for me. But I remember our nine being
- 29:55like, I think it was Malia when they got the girl on our team
- 29:59talking to her. And I was like, I feel really
- 30:01good. I'm going to be back in a
- 30:02second. And I went to my car and I got
- 30:05out of box fresh pair of vapour flies.
- 30:09So everyone's there in like caked trail shoes and you see me
- 30:14just get a white pair of vapor flies out box fresh and put them
- 30:19on and everyone's like, what the fuck is he doing?
- 30:22And then? The sponsors.
- 30:23Dream, right? Yeah, Actually, yeah.
- 30:25I remember like Olly Marchant speaking to me and he was like,
- 30:28what are you doing? And I was like, I'm going quick
- 30:31because I worked out like if we want to, we were in like 7th or
- 30:348th place at the time. If we want a podium, I'm just
- 30:37going to have to bend myself on the runs and just get as much
- 30:40distance. So I told like Ben, who was Ben
- 30:46and Joey, like the two leaders on the Roxford team, right?
- 30:51I'm going to go out hard. And then I need one person to
- 30:54like go out like moderately hard so that they can give me a break
- 30:58on the ski. And then the other three can
- 31:01kind of poodle in and then work really hard for that last 20
- 31:04minutes on the ski erg. So then I can recover for 20
- 31:07minutes without skiing to then go really hard on the next 5K.
- 31:13And it worked. So like Malia did a couple
- 31:15really hard ones and then Dan did one as well.
- 31:18And you finished well, second or third?
- 31:20We came third in the end. Awesome.
- 31:21So we went into the last run in 5th place.
- 31:24It's mental. But we we were only like 8
- 31:27points behind. I don't know if it's because I
- 31:30knew pretty much all of you guys on that team, but you were
- 31:32definitely the people's champions the way that the race
- 31:35was handled because like also they were so chill.
- 31:37Top two were like locked in head to head down the other end of
- 31:41the skier. OK, fine.
- 31:42And like team rocks that were on their own, like having a good
- 31:44time, chilling in their chairs and just like talking to
- 31:47everybody. And I think at, at the start of
- 31:49the day, like we would, we would, we would have been happy
- 31:51with like top ten because like there was some really, really
- 31:56strong teams there and loads of teams were giving it the big and
- 32:00like, Oh yeah, we're going to, we're going to win this.
- 32:03And it was just, it was just cool.
- 32:04The fact that we all kind of at some point, all of us were in an
- 32:08absolute pit and we all just helped each other.
- 32:12Yeah. So it makes it even better when
- 32:13you're doing it with your mates and when.
- 32:15Like, but I feel like that's your your almost like your
- 32:18attitude going into your high rocks as well as well.
- 32:20Like obviously watching you race at the elite level now you look
- 32:24locked in and you look concentrated and focused when
- 32:27you're actually racing. But and the other times I see
- 32:29you around venues, whether it's in races in the UK, it's just
- 32:32like always happy to be there, always happy to chat to people
- 32:35who are like interested in you. And it's like never really
- 32:38necessarily taking yourself too seriously until it's game time.
- 32:42And I think that's something it's like such an advocate for
- 32:45the sport. And I think you do that very,
- 32:47very well. Thank you.
- 32:49And yeah, like, I'll, I'll always, if I'm at a venue, I'll
- 32:53always make an effort to talk to people or to just hang around
- 32:56and just watch other people. Because I know from when I was
- 33:01just a newbie beginner person and I was seeing like the elite
- 33:06guys racing. And if I spoke to one of them, I
- 33:08was like, oh, this is cool. I'm talking to an elite guy.
- 33:10And now it's kind of gone. Full.
- 33:12Circle And I remember that now when I talk to people, when like
- 33:16people message me, that's exactly how I felt three years
- 33:19ago. So that kind of just makes it
- 33:22sweeter. So I'll always do that when I
- 33:24can and just hang around to. Kind of complete the catch up on
- 33:28where you are today and like a top level view.
- 33:30Obviously we said in the next episode we'll go more into the
- 33:32nitty gritty of your training and ask some very specific
- 33:34questions. But I think at this point,
- 33:37unless you live under a rock, everyone knows that you did
- 33:40pretty well in Melbourne and there was a there was a lead up
- 33:42to that. But then between Melbourne and
- 33:46Phoenix, you had Christmas, you had all sorts of other things
- 33:49going on, you won Manchester. But like, talk, talk to us a
- 33:53little bit about Melbourne versus now, like where you've
- 33:57gone through that journey because I mean, not that you
- 34:00weren't already known, but like suddenly everyone knew who you
- 34:03were. And like, that was probably a
- 34:05lot more pressure and you probably also ecstatic, which I
- 34:08know when I do better in something than I expect to do,
- 34:10sometimes I'm almost demotivated from training because I'm like,
- 34:15I'm no longer chasing a carrot in that sense.
- 34:17So what did that whole thing look like from your side?
- 34:22Obviously in kind of that October, October was like the
- 34:26most nuts month of my life. Like I did 77 races that month
- 34:33and obviously there was a lot of buzz around that.
- 34:35Like I'd I'd won in Poland, I won in Valencia, I came third in
- 34:40Birmingham and like I'd qualified into the Elite 15.
- 34:45But then I came to Melbourne and a lot of people were kind of
- 34:50like they didn't expect me to qualify.
- 34:53I didn't expect me to qualify. I thought it was pretty cemented
- 34:57it was going to be Hunter, Tim and JK.
- 35:00Obviously Hunter and Tim were just on another level that day.
- 35:04But going into Melbourne I was confident.
- 35:06Like I ran in Madrid the week before or two weeks before and I
- 35:11did the men's open in the morning and then the men's pro
- 35:14in the evening and both of them I wanted to do it like that's
- 35:2080% effort. And for me, like having to hold
- 35:24back in a race was the most frustrating experience of my
- 35:27life, especially knowing that I could have gone and won.
- 35:32Well, I won the men's open, but then I could have gone and won
- 35:34the men's pro. But I knew that if I'd have gone
- 35:38full beans, it would have compromised me going into
- 35:40Melbourne. So I knew that my shape was in
- 35:45contention for a top five. I didn't expect it to be a top
- 35:48three, but then in terms of pacing the race, I don't think I
- 35:53could have done it any better. Like I came out of the burpees
- 35:56in 9th, but I came out of the burpees ready to kick on.
- 36:00And then it's so much easier mentally for me when you're
- 36:06picking people off rather than you're worrying about people
- 36:09behind you picking you off. And then obviously coming into
- 36:14the war balls and forth, I didn't really expect to move up
- 36:18from there. And then obviously what happened
- 36:21happened and I just kind of like still feels like a bit of a
- 36:26blur. But after that it kind of
- 36:29motivated me even more to work harder and train harder and
- 36:33recover harder and just fix loads of things.
- 36:38And then I had quite a few like in and around Christmas up until
- 36:44Manchester had quite a few health issues, which kind of
- 36:48came to light. And I'm still kind of working
- 36:51through them now. So I wasn't able to run outdoors
- 36:53for six weeks. And now after having several
- 36:58blood tests and whatnot, like my iron's very low and I've got
- 37:01very low testosterone. So I need to kind of obviously
- 37:04I'm not going to have testosterone because that's
- 37:06illegal, but I need to kind of work on improving that.
- 37:09And my iron, my iron levels now compared to four weeks ago in
- 37:15Phoenix, a nine day difference. And I can feel it in training
- 37:19and in performance. I've gone on a bit of a tangent
- 37:24there, but yeah, then obviously Manchester happened.
- 37:27That went really well. Like I didn't really taper in
- 37:30for it, but it was the second fastest time I've ever run on a
- 37:33course that was supposedly very slow.
- 37:38But then on the fly out to Phoenix I got very ill from a
- 37:41guy who coughed and spotted everywhere.
- 37:45So. It's the worst thing about
- 37:46flying, isn't it? You're just like trapped in
- 37:48there. And a lot I had to turn to him
- 37:50and I was like, can you at least like cover your mouth?
- 37:52Because it was just no, no effort like to at least be
- 37:55hygienic. You need to get like a private
- 37:59jet sponsor I reckon. Yeah.
- 38:01And if you want to sponsor us at the same time, she is.
- 38:04Charlie's looking to private from private now.
- 38:06See, obviously, like I, I wasn't going to go into the race
- 38:09saying, oh, I feel like I feel rubbish.
- 38:12I'm going to fail. Because I think the more you
- 38:15talk about that in public, the more you're actually just going
- 38:17to self sanitize yourself into just yeah, and then you've got
- 38:22something to fall back on of I'm going into it.
- 38:24I'll. So I tried, I tried keeping it a
- 38:27bit, well I didn't sound mail, but then in a few of the
- 38:31interviews before the race you can hear my voice is just like
- 38:34completely gone. But yeah, that didn't go to
- 38:37plan. And then a couple days later I
- 38:39raced the double s with Jake did and it was a bit of fun and I
- 38:42felt a lot better that then we ran quite a quick time.
- 38:47But I after I came home I recovered rested and I've had a
- 38:51really good four week block building up to Glasgow and
- 38:55London. And then after London I think
- 38:57I'm probably not going to race again.
- 39:00I might race in Warsaw if I get an elite spot, but then it will
- 39:05be a case of 10 week block to world champs.
- 39:09I mean, off the back of that, I've got so many questions, but
- 39:12the first one, if we like rewind to Melbourne, something that I'm
- 39:16really interested in. And I think there's like a
- 39:19potential switch from when you start doing high Rocks to maybe
- 39:23when you become a little bit more competitive in High rocks
- 39:26about pacing strategy. But when you were in that elite
- 39:29race and you said it on your YouTube as well, it's like
- 39:31you've come out of the burpees. Was it 9th?
- 39:33Did you say something like that? Or you went in an eighth and
- 39:36then came out 9th? But you, you felt good and you
- 39:39saw the people around you start to tail off a little bit.
- 39:42How much of your racing in an elite race is based around a pre
- 39:47race strategy and pacing? And how much of it is I just
- 39:51need to race what's in front of me?
- 39:52I'm no longer racing the clock, I'm racing the the guys here.
- 39:55How much of it is like, is there a point in the race where you
- 39:58go, I'm going to pace up until here and then I'm just going to
- 40:00pull the pin based off how I feel?
- 40:02Or what's your approach when you go into a race like that?
- 40:05So Melbourne specifically, I knew that the only thing I
- 40:10needed was that third place. Like there was no no time, no
- 40:15anything, just that third position.
- 40:18And I knew that there was going to be a lot of pressure from the
- 40:25get go from Tim and Hunter and they were going to go out really
- 40:28hot and the majority of the field getting caught up in the
- 40:33whole experience. We're going to try and follow
- 40:35them and I think it's very telling that the two guys that
- 40:39were at the back of the field were John Wynn and Bo Wills, who
- 40:43are two of the most experienced guys and they know don't go out
- 40:47too hot, don't get sucked into it.
- 40:50And that's what I knew I needed to do.
- 40:52I knew that I'm not going to let them get too much of A lead, or
- 40:58at least I'm not going to let 3rd place get too much of A lead
- 41:00because I was. Kind of like a disconcerting
- 41:02place to because you're like, it's such a mature decision to
- 41:05be able to make, but it's like almost scary that you're like
- 41:07letting them go, but you're like, I need to just, they can
- 41:10do their thing and I'm just going to sit and wait.
- 41:13Yeah, and like I think off if you take the burpees out to the
- 41:20finish line, I was the fastest guy.
- 41:23I beat Hunter and Tim from the burpees out to the finish line
- 41:29and now I know that I can finish strong and my war balls are much
- 41:34better now projects up for if you've watched my latest YouTube
- 41:39video, my war balls are a lot better now and now I just need
- 41:45to at world champs be willing to risk it to win it.
- 41:49I don't need to play it safe. I just need to be able to follow
- 41:53Alex, Tim and Hunter. So a question that I've got is
- 41:57historically, Hunter obviously been very successful in the
- 41:59sport. He's always gone pretty quick.
- 42:01He's known for being one of the fastest skier like skiers in
- 42:05general in the sport and sort of trying to hold sub 1:40 to that
- 42:10kind of thing. And then you've got Tim, who
- 42:12especially in the last couple of years has gone off quick on the
- 42:15runs. And then Alex also comes out of
- 42:17the gate like absolutely stomping round.
- 42:21Do you think over the next few months you might toy with some
- 42:24different strategies because, you know, I mean, you kind of
- 42:26know where you're finishes, like you're feeling good.
- 42:28The next big thing for you, having already qualified to
- 42:29Stockholm, is Stockholm. As much as there are other races
- 42:32on the way, do you think you're going to try and use those as
- 42:34opportunities to try different things out?
- 42:35Or are you basically going to lock down on what you think your
- 42:38best strategy is and just practice the hell out of it?
- 42:42I In certain races I will risk going out harder and in certain
- 42:48races I'll actually to try going out easier and then really
- 42:52trying to kick in the middle of the race, like at the pool, the
- 42:58burpees, the row, and then seeing where I end up at the
- 43:01end. But there's a whole thing in
- 43:04like if you look at any elite endurance sport like cycling,
- 43:07running, triathlon, there's the whole phrase of once the elastic
- 43:12snaps and it's a it's a very tough position being with
- 43:18someone like on that first run on the ski and then they pull
- 43:23away. And I think at worlds I'm going
- 43:27to have to be comfortable with that may be happening.
- 43:30And then me coming back later in the race, because I know that
- 43:37Tim Hunter, they're going to pull a much stronger and even
- 43:41Alex as well and probably Hitty to everyone are going to pull
- 43:46like a sub 140 ski. At least two of them will
- 43:49probably pull that split. And I'm not going to do that.
- 43:52No matter how fit I get in the next four months, I'm not going
- 43:56to go out that hot. So I'm just need to mentally be
- 43:59comfortable with allowing them to get that gap.
- 44:05I think that's answered the question, I think.
- 44:06I think. I'm conscious of time, but I'm
- 44:09going to ask another question because this is something that I
- 44:12picked up from your YouTube and it was going into this year's
- 44:15season and you're kind of like you spoke about.
- 44:18You had a period, I think it was in the summer, where you
- 44:20basically did no High Rock specific training.
- 44:22It was a lot of strength work. You did a lot of running and
- 44:25then a lot of biking, which I think everyone saw in your
- 44:27social media. And then you race like the
- 44:30hybrid games or something in Newcastle, maybe eye opener and
- 44:33we're like actually do need to do some hierarchy specific, but
- 44:36was your first race GDANCE is that is?
- 44:39That first solo race with GDANCE.
- 44:40But you, you say on that you're like, I'm going into that really
- 44:43confident. I know I'm going to be good.
- 44:46How much do you like attribute your performance to a mental
- 44:50attitude over like a physical? Obviously we know physical is
- 44:55going to play a part, but do you reckon your mental and you
- 44:58mentioned it in Phoenix as well, You're like, I didn't want
- 45:01people to know that. I was like, I'll because I want
- 45:03to mentally just be strong, see what I do.
- 45:05Like. How much do you attribute your
- 45:07performance of being mentally tough?
- 45:10I think it's as important once you get to the elite level as
- 45:16like it is physical. And over the past, I'd say nine
- 45:23months, I've kind of really extrinsically like being
- 45:30extrinsically motivated in a good sense.
- 45:33And when I'm racing, like I know that there's so many people that
- 45:37would love to be doing what I'm doing.
- 45:39And the least I can do is give 100% in that moment because if
- 45:45like I'm, I'm not a celebrity, I'm not big, but I've got a lot
- 45:48of people who I now inspire. And if they see me giving up in
- 45:53a race, that's not good for anyone.
- 45:56And there's people out there who might not be able to walk, they
- 46:00might like not be able to financially do this.
- 46:04And I think for me, that's been the biggest thing more than my
- 46:08training is. And now when it gets really hard
- 46:13and it really hurts, I know that those people out there who would
- 46:17love to be choosing to be in that pain because there's a lot
- 46:21of people who are in pain and can't choose it.
- 46:24And the least I can do is keep on going.
- 46:26And I think that's. Take it for granted, right?
- 46:28Which is like such a a wholesome way of looking at it.
- 46:31So mature and like just so almost like PR trained, but like
- 46:35just thinking logically, honestly, like that's a lot of
- 46:37what it is. And at the end of the day, I
- 46:39can't, I think it might have been James Kelly who said that
- 46:41like, you're going to cross that line and in two minutes you're
- 46:43going to be OK. Literally.
- 46:45And it's like the guy and girl who wins is going to be the one
- 46:50who can endure the pain because the Hyrox is now at that level
- 46:53where physically a lot of people are going to be very similarly
- 46:58stacked. And it's who who has that mental
- 47:01edge where they can just hurt. And Hunter McIntyre is in.
- 47:04Hyrox has been kind of the biggest guy when it comes to
- 47:08that. Yeah, and the Taurus, they get
- 47:10it if you see his. Face in some of the races you
- 47:12can tell he is in a world of pain and he's still, what, 20
- 47:14minutes to go? And he's just like, fine with
- 47:17that, yeah. And it's being comfortable in
- 47:20discomfort that kind of separates the great athletes
- 47:23from the greatest athletes. And I think that's the same in
- 47:27every sport. If you look at the best marathon
- 47:29runners, they can just dig. And even if you look at the best
- 47:33ultra marathon runners, like at the the Barkley Marathons,
- 47:36Paris, what's her? I can't remember a surname, but
- 47:39the girl who, yeah. Like, she was hurting from what,
- 47:44like so early in that race, but she kept on going.
- 47:47And I think that's what separates the best athletes from
- 47:51the like, the greatest athletes. Surely I plug Endure by Alex
- 47:55Hutchinson at this point. Again, go for it, it's a great
- 47:57book. The greatest book if you want to
- 47:59learn about the relationship between like your psyche and and
- 48:03your physiological. But yeah, endure by Alex
- 48:07Hutchinson. That's all I need to say on it.
- 48:09You've kind of pulled us away from the conversation, so I'm
- 48:10going to use the fact. That you've pulled us away so.
- 48:12What we normally do actually earlier on in the episodes, but
- 48:15we're going to come back to, is Grime My Gears.
- 48:18This is a totally different direction to what we were just
- 48:21on, but for those of you listening, this might be your
- 48:22favorite part of the podcast. Grime My Gears is where?
- 48:25We it's my favorite part. There we go.
- 48:27It's where we take suggestions from you guys.
- 48:29So if you've got 1 burning, please just message the podcast
- 48:32page. But basically, we just let loose
- 48:35on all the things that have been annoying us recently,
- 48:37particularly if they're in the fitness space.
- 48:40Charlie, I don't know if you've got any burning or if you want
- 48:41me to start off with some of the suspicious we've got.
- 48:43You start. OK, cool.
- 48:45We'll let you weigh in and we will promise to edit anything
- 48:47out that might get you cancelled.
- 48:50The first one that we have got is something that I'm going to
- 48:53jump on top of. We've had Roscoe, who's been a
- 48:55previous guest and we've done some podcasts with him messaging
- 48:58to say people that are on like out in public and are like face
- 49:01timing or speaker phoning without headphones.
- 49:04And I'm going to layer on top of that, just in general using your
- 49:07phone, like if you're watching TikTok or something on loud in
- 49:09public, what are we doing? What are you doing?
- 49:13People that have their phone on loud so that everyone in the
- 49:16entire post code can understand that they have got text messages
- 49:20like I'm on Love Island, but they might as well just put
- 49:22their hand up and go, I've got a text, I've got a text.
- 49:25Everyone comes over and looks at their phone.
- 49:26Can we just have some like common decency and.
- 49:29Just no. That's that stressed me out
- 49:31enough. Not a fan of it at all.
- 49:34No, I agree with that one. Like.
- 49:37Everyone's got headphones. I was in the quiet carriage on
- 49:40the way here and that's. Criminal if you're in the quiet
- 49:44carriage and they're doing. It there was a little man on his
- 49:47phone calling another little man and I was like this I've, I'm
- 49:53socially awkward. I can never go up someone and
- 49:55say, please, can you turn that down?
- 49:57And I was like, this is a quiet carriage and you're calling your
- 50:00phone out loud. I don't need to hear about your
- 50:02business calls. Yes, you're in a suit.
- 50:05Yes, you probably make millions of pounds.
- 50:07This is a quiet carriage. Some people are trying.
- 50:09To spend the millions of pounds on headphones or a first class.
- 50:11Ticket. But maybe they just want people
- 50:13to know that they're important. But you're in a quiet carriage
- 50:16for a reason. I hate that.
- 50:19I hate that. The next one I've got, we're
- 50:20going to actually roll back to CrossFit 26.1.
- 50:24Adam message in saying the wobble standards and judging
- 50:27this year has been atrocious. I think that's also a hierarch
- 50:30prevalent problem, but he was just complaining.
- 50:32I don't know if we need to necessarily weigh on it because
- 50:34it's a hard thing to judge. And we might go down a rabbit
- 50:37hole if we do as well. I'll be careful and see.
- 50:40OK, go on. Do you want to do you want to
- 50:41weigh on it? No, just want to avoid.
- 50:42OK, we'll just avoid. The next one that I've got is a
- 50:46similar note from Who's Oh no, they want to remain anonymous.
- 50:51Careful. CrossFit 26.1 being
- 50:53unfinishable. But it wasn't.
- 50:56It was, but for for like the majority, it was.
- 50:59Yeah, but I, I, I, I, I. That was an elite athlete.
- 51:03It's not impossible, but for the person who's probably
- 51:06complaining about it, it was impossible.
- 51:08Do you know what I mean? If 50% of the professional
- 51:12athlete contingency that got invited to do the 26.1
- 51:15announcement, 50% of them didn't finish, I can understand why
- 51:19you're annoyed at it. But you've got a program for the
- 51:22best, and then whatever happens, happens.
- 51:24This leads me on to one of my grind my.
- 51:26Gears. Come on, let's have it.
- 51:27The fact that he's pointing at me is really worrying, no?
- 51:30No, because you make a very good .0 Cool, an honest person.
- 51:35I'm sure you're lovely, but it's called a competition for a
- 51:39reason, because you're competing.
- 51:41And one thing that is annoying me is people complaining, and
- 51:47this might just be me, but people complaining that a
- 51:49competition is too hard or that a competition is too
- 51:52competitive. Like for instance, high rocks,
- 51:57because I am on topic, I am a high rocks athlete.
- 52:03Like people complaining that like if you do a men's pro race
- 52:10and like now with the new system that there's loads of elite guys
- 52:14doing the men's pro races. Oh, like I can't get on the
- 52:18podium now. And it's like what?
- 52:20The solution is to get better. Yeah, and it's like and like,
- 52:23and I know he's high Rocks is a sport for everyone and I don't
- 52:26want to get cancelled, but it's like it's not just in High
- 52:30Rocks. It's like in in marathons now,
- 52:32like you, you're competing against everyone and a lot of
- 52:36people, a lot of people don't like the fact that they can't be
- 52:43at the top or not they can't be at the top.
- 52:47But people, like a lot of people, struggle to remember
- 52:52that a competition is a competition and everyone is
- 52:54there to win and everyone there wants to win or do well or win
- 52:58and however they see winning this.
- 53:03Is this is similar to like the 75 hard?
- 53:05I don't know if you're going to say that.
- 53:06It's like people complaining that 75 hard is too high.
- 53:09Yeah, we did touch on that. No, I was going to bring up, we
- 53:11already spoke about the Barclay Marathon.
- 53:12But the Barclay Marathon notoriously in its design and I
- 53:14can't remember the guy who like runs it and designs it, Cool
- 53:18guy. Every time it gets finished, it
- 53:20gets harder. So in 2025, which we were just
- 53:23talking about, when 5 people finished it, he made it harder.
- 53:282026, no one finished it. So like, is that competition too
- 53:32hard or has everyone just got to get better?
- 53:34Yeah, and it's like it. That is the beauty and essence
- 53:37of competing. It's meant to be hard.
- 53:39And push you to get better as a result, right?
- 53:41And if, if you never get to the top or you never finish it, just
- 53:47know knowing that you did everything in your power to
- 53:50potentially get to the top or to potentially finish it is enough.
- 53:55Like I, I want to be the high rocks world champion.
- 53:57I want to be the high Rocks world champion five times.
- 54:00I might never step on the podium at World Champs, but I'm going
- 54:04to do everything in my power there.
- 54:06And if I don't make it, I'll be happy knowing that I gave
- 54:10everything. And I think that is the beauty
- 54:12of competition. But it's also like.
- 54:13You want to do it beating the others at their best as well.
- 54:18It's like you don't want just want to have like a go and walk
- 54:20through. You can win.
- 54:21It's like I want to earn it kind of thing.
- 54:23And that's that's kind of like what you're complaining about.
- 54:25It's too hard. Just get better, yeah?
- 54:29I've got I've got two more written in.
- 54:31The first one is political. We won't stand on it for too
- 54:33long, but Level 1 personal trainers in Dubai giving World
- 54:37War three advice. That one came from Harry, who
- 54:40used to be in the military himself.
- 54:42I. Think that's funny?
- 54:43That's quite funny. That's quite funny.
- 54:45The next one is this one came from Eleanor.
- 54:49It's not fitness related but I rate it so I've included it.
- 54:52Thank you Eleanor for the submission.
- 54:54Pancake Day was recently. One of the best days in the
- 54:57world. One of the best days in the
- 54:58world. If you like pancakes.
- 55:00Do you not like pancakes? No.
- 55:02You're a grandma, get. Well, no, I like pancakes.
- 55:04I don't like craps. Oh, controversial.
- 55:07Still a grandma get. Yeah, maybe we shouldn't, we
- 55:09shouldn't touch on that. I'm not removing that from the
- 55:11podcast though. People need to know that about.
- 55:13It yeah, for sure I. Got food poisoning from craps
- 55:15and I can never look at them in the same I'm.
- 55:16Going to make you some. Craps.
- 55:18He won't eat them. The last one is that every year
- 55:25when Pancake Day comes around, they sell pancake frying pans in
- 55:28the supermarkets and every year two days after Pancake Day you
- 55:32just see them outside the front of people's house to go in the
- 55:34bin and it's so wasteful. I can't say I've seen that, have
- 55:37you not? No, they're like the tiny little
- 55:39skinny ones for making crepes and they're like non stick pans.
- 55:42They work once basically and they're like 1 LB. 99 I thought
- 55:45you were going to say the marketing strategy.
- 55:49It's just a frying pan. I mean it is but like.
- 55:52Why are you selling it as a pancake?
- 55:53It's literally A1 use frying pan and it is pissed down and off
- 55:56and I actually kind of vibe with it.
- 55:57I don't. Like waste.
- 55:58Yeah, I just haven't seen it. It's like there was a meme that
- 56:02or a meme video that went quite viral that was lemon juice.
- 56:07And it's like a guy, a guy pulls out the lemon juice from the
- 56:10cupboard. Oh, it's hard to date.
- 56:11Pop the shops and get some more for pancakes next year.
- 56:15Oh, Saturday, pops the shop. And then doesn't it?
- 56:17Doesn't he like move? And then he moves in and they
- 56:20find. It the lemon juice and it's
- 56:21like, Oh yeah, should probably pop to the shop now.
- 56:24I thought that that got really deep, didn't it, That whole.
- 56:27Yeah, because it's like his whole.
- 56:28Family eating on his. Wife and then like someone died
- 56:30and. That was that was wild.
- 56:32It was a story. I was actually quite locked in
- 56:34that it was a masterpiece. You've been quiet.
- 56:38You've got any ground my git? I, I, I do have one.
- 56:43Do you know when? I don't know if this is going to
- 56:45upset a lot of people, People training and they're like
- 56:47training hard. And then they'll post about it
- 56:49on their Instagram and they'll say like some caption in the
- 56:53trenches. And I'm like.
- 56:55Oh yeah, or like going to war with myself.
- 56:58God, that's a bit close to home at the moment.
- 57:00Even me. Honest.
- 57:01Yeah, but. Yeah, I don't think I hate that
- 57:05phrase. Yeah, I'm not.
- 57:06I'm not vibing with. That phrase, you weren't in the
- 57:08trenches, you were in a pure gym right close to a ski erg.
- 57:12And I think that's probably what it was.
- 57:14That was. Tough.
- 57:15Well, the next part of the the podcast, which people typically
- 57:18seem to enjoy is we do a game section at the end.
- 57:21And I have been telling Charlie that he's going to love this.
- 57:24A few episodes ago, if you haven't listened, we mentioned
- 57:28that we were going to do a Price is Right game where basically
- 57:33I'm going to start reading out certain pieces of sports
- 57:35equipment and these guys. So Charlie and Charles are going
- 57:39to go head to head to see who can get closest that.
- 57:41Could be a segment Charlie versus Charles.
- 57:43Charlie versus Charles. Charlie versus Charles.
- 57:45As long as it's not fitness related.
- 57:47OK. So I'm going to each give you a
- 57:50piece of sporting equipment and I need you both to quickly guess
- 57:55what you think the price of that is, right?
- 57:58If you're listening to this or you're watching it play along at
- 58:00home, see if you can do better than those guys and if you do,
- 58:04then put it down in the comments once you subscribed I.
- 58:07Assume we're going in pounds. We are going in pounds.
- 58:09I've actually gone through the effort of converting for you
- 58:12both. So we're going to start off like
- 58:15I said, we've got to keep this relatively quick because I think
- 58:17I've got like 12 to get through perfect.
- 58:19I will tell you the answer as soon as you have both responded.
- 58:22You can respond in whatever order you want, OK?
- 58:26Or do you want me to force you to take it in turn so there's no
- 58:28advantage? Maybe that's a better way of
- 58:30doing. It you're going to Charlie,
- 58:32you're going to go first because you're the guest.
- 58:35OK. So the first one that's helpful,
- 58:37I don't think it is the first one that we have got is a an
- 58:40official Olympic curling stone. Which are all made on the same
- 58:45island they. Are the same company case.
- 58:48This guy already knows. An official Olympic standard
- 58:53curling stone would be 1500 Great British pounds.
- 58:59OK. That's more higher.
- 59:01Than I was going to. Go.
- 59:01What are you going to go for? But they are like, do you know
- 59:05what they're made of? I believe it's granite.
- 59:07It is fresh granite. And then they've also got the
- 59:09sensors in there for the handles that we spoke about.
- 59:11Last hey, you're giving them extra information after I've
- 59:13answered. Yeah, I know, but I'm just.
- 59:15I'm also the most. Qualifying your that's yeah,
- 59:17well, that's, that's made me think now it's more expensive.
- 59:20I'm, well, I was going to go cheaper and now I'll go in the
- 59:25middle of 1000. OK, you you do win this round.
- 59:28It is 720 to 750 lbs. Damn it.
- 59:32What's also crazy, by the way, we're talking about
- 59:34sustainability with fine hands. They don't reuse them.
- 59:38Every Winter Olympics. They get sent back and these
- 59:40guys go and make ornaments that you can buy on their website.
- 59:42So if you want to buy a real part of a curling stone, you can
- 59:44do. But why they don't reuse them
- 59:45when they just stone? No idea.
- 59:46Barney Brand with like the the year of the Olympics.
- 59:49Surely we just do that as a sticker.
- 59:51Yeah, it could be. Anyway, next one.
- 59:54So actually we had some questions about this.
- 59:56Your favorite race shoe. Do you want to answer that very
- 59:59quickly so I can? Streak.
- 1:00:01Fly the Nike Streak Fly 2 is it? Yes, Yes.
- 1:00:06OK, So officially on the Nike website, how much is a Nike
- 1:00:10Streak Fly 2? Charles, you're up first.
- 1:00:13He doesn't have to buy his Of course he's not going to know
- 1:00:17the streak fly. On the official website.
- 1:00:20They're carbons, yeah. At the time At the time of
- 1:00:23writing. At the time of recording.
- 1:00:25Recording. I'm going to go.
- 1:00:29It's got to be between like 195 and 220.
- 1:00:32Let's just split the 2200, OK? £109.99.
- 1:00:38Charlie's gone low. See I got mine from the official
- 1:00:41Nike store before Christmas for £99.99 which is an unreal,
- 1:00:44unreal deal. World under 99.
- 1:00:46However the current price on the Nike store IS16499 in very row
- 1:00:52colour ways. So Charles actually does win.
- 1:00:55However if you are really interested and you've been
- 1:00:57wanting to try some Charlie's She's I will let you know.
- 1:00:59There are alternative places you can get them for a lot cheaper
- 1:01:02in more normal colours. The next question.
- 1:01:05Tough for the program the. Next question and I will.
- 1:01:07I will also preface. I thought they're still on
- 1:01:09discount? Charlie is obviously a Nike
- 1:01:12athlete, but the next question I have got is how much is a pair
- 1:01:16of high socks grip socks? On though, where he has to go
- 1:01:21first. You have to.
- 1:01:22You have to go 1st and guess. £14.99. £14.99.
- 1:01:28That's it. I was going to say like £15.
- 1:01:31Well, it's great because they sponsor, you know your stuff.
- 1:01:33They are exactly 15 lbs. However, if you want to get
- 1:01:35yourself some high socks, grip socks, you can save 15% using
- 1:01:39code mindsets. See I I applied the mindsets
- 1:01:42discount code so technically I should win that.
- 1:01:44There you go £12.70. Five and save 1P.
- 1:01:47Charlie takes the win because everyone listening to this will
- 1:01:50be using that to get their grips.
- 1:01:52You can have the point for that, even though I was the first ever
- 1:01:55ambassador. Fun fact.
- 1:01:56There we go. I was high socks first ever
- 1:01:59ambassador. Wow, how did we get here?
- 1:02:01That's crazy. Way back in 2024.
- 1:02:05Wow. Well, if he's when he was on
- 1:02:06with us, the. 1st if that's if it's a high rocks journey,
- 1:02:09there's anything to go by then. Big things for the podcast, you
- 1:02:11guys might as well buy in now. OK, so the next thing, F1 tyre 1
- 1:02:17singular F1 tyre. I'm first, you are first.
- 1:02:20We've spoken about this before and you said some stupid number
- 1:02:23that I didn't believe based off what a normal.
- 1:02:26Pirelli tyre, by the way, AP. One is it?
- 1:02:29No, it's. Just a.
- 1:02:30Pirelli, maybe that's what's on my side.
- 1:02:32I'm going to. Say that's on my bike.
- 1:02:34If there are anything to go by, these tyres are expensive.
- 1:02:37I'm going to say like 500 quid, £500.
- 1:02:44I'll go. I'll go with 501 lbs.
- 1:02:48Play the game. Charlie takes the win.
- 1:02:49It is £2000 per tyre, which means every time they stop it's
- 1:02:538 grand on tyres alone. So I did.
- 1:02:55You did say something like that before.
- 1:02:56I didn't believe it's insane. That's really expensive.
- 1:02:59That's. Terrible.
- 1:03:00I don't know if you guys will know what this means.
- 1:03:03An NFL Riddell Speedflex helmet if you buy it in the UK.
- 1:03:07Oh, I've got several real speedflex.
- 1:03:09This is the helmet I used to wear with.
- 1:03:10Helmets. It is a very common Charlie.
- 1:03:15You are first. I know the Ruddell.
- 1:03:18I'm going to go with 149 lbs. There's nuance because like a
- 1:03:28quarterback has like COM systems.
- 1:03:30I'm not going with that. I'm going if you wanted to buy
- 1:03:32the helmet for yourself. Does it vary dependent on head
- 1:03:35size? No, if you've got a massive head
- 1:03:37it's way more expensive and like no accessory visors or.
- 1:03:41No, no, no. Just you get the helmet in the
- 1:03:42face gauge. I stand.
- 1:03:44It'll be more expensive than that.
- 1:03:45I'm going to go like I'll be like £300.
- 1:03:49OK it IS49999500 quid it made me a very broke student but like I
- 1:03:55would have had concussion if I paid what I paid so it's worth
- 1:04:00it. Protect your head the next the
- 1:04:02next one I have got is and I couldn't find many of these
- 1:04:05online. So if you play polo, you can
- 1:04:07rinse me for using this website and a meter 5th a meter is the
- 1:04:12name of the brand 50 to 54 inch polo mallet.
- 1:04:18How much are we saying you're up first?
- 1:04:21Oh God, I I feel like even if it was cheap, because it's Polo,
- 1:04:27it's going to be more expensive. I'm going to say like for polo
- 1:04:33mallet, I'm going to go in hot with like again, £300.
- 1:04:39Let's just go £300. Based on that helmet one, it's
- 1:04:42got to be 400 or more. Oh, interesting, Charles, you
- 1:04:46take the win there, it's 115 lbs.
- 1:04:49But so you're throwing an egg around a field and you're
- 1:04:53smacking a ball on a horse, probably around some luxury
- 1:04:58estate and the equipment's. Cheaper, yeah, but you do have
- 1:05:01to buy the horse. Well, they're all they've all
- 1:05:03got their tax in different countries.
- 1:05:05So like they don't have much money on them at the time.
- 1:05:07So they just spend what they have they.
- 1:05:08All do very well at this. There's there's a chance you are
- 1:05:12you? Yeah, pretty much.
- 1:05:13I think there's one to do. With.
- 1:05:16OK, the next one, AZX 5 Zamboni. That is what they use to clean
- 1:05:24the ice hockey pictures. Yeah, I was going to say, I
- 1:05:28remember that from like a Disney movie I watched as a kid.
- 1:05:33Oh what? So it's like the.
- 1:05:34Yeah, the the the truck thing they drive around, how much is
- 1:05:37one of those? ZX5, by the way, is the latest
- 1:05:39model that's coming out. The price is speculative, but.
- 1:05:425K OH. I'm good at least 10 grand a.
- 1:05:46$150,000 I didn't convert that one, but it just so you're
- 1:05:51aware, this one's a lithium ion battery, 760 litre water tank,
- 1:05:55200 by 100. Foot.
- 1:05:57Oh, it's got all the ring that. It can cover Oh, it's.
- 1:05:59What's the nought 60? Time.
- 1:06:00It's a beauty. I actually have that written
- 1:06:02down. It is never, but never makes it
- 1:06:05there. If you drop it from a plane.
- 1:06:10Do better research. That's.
- 1:06:12Always how when people ask what's your car's nought 60, I
- 1:06:15just reference if I dropped it from a plane.
- 1:06:17OK, I'm going. To which is what?
- 1:06:19Probably like 2 seconds rather rather than 13 1/2.
- 1:06:25I'm going to get really, really niche here.
- 1:06:28So I originally thought an an Olympic archery bow.
- 1:06:32Then upon trying to find the price of those, I found that you
- 1:06:35pretty much have to build one out.
- 1:06:36So I've gone for the recurve limbs, which is like the top and
- 1:06:40the bottom part. How much do you think a I'm
- 1:06:43going to quote here a win and win we are with NSG 2 would
- 1:06:48recurve limb. They are the best.
- 1:06:50Set would cost. You know what's really
- 1:06:53embarrassing now? One of my clients at the gym
- 1:06:57does archery and he told me about building your own bow and
- 1:07:02told me how much his cost. And.
- 1:07:04Now I can't remember because you like you have to build in
- 1:07:06weights and you've obviously got different poundage of bow and
- 1:07:09like different curve shapes. But that's Charlie's got to go
- 1:07:12first. Oh, I'm.
- 1:07:13Going to stop talking here, but you said wood.
- 1:07:16Yeah. Yeah, these ones are made of
- 1:07:17wood, but it's for a Yeah. So it's.
- 1:07:20Surely not. It's surely common.
- 1:07:21It's going to be, it's going to be like 2000 lbs at least.
- 1:07:25See, I was going to say 2K as well, so I'm going to say 2001
- 1:07:27lbs. Or he went the wrong way.
- 1:07:29Charlie, you take the win, £998.98 for those those recurve
- 1:07:36limbs alone. You still buy it, you still
- 1:07:39build it yourself. Next thing coming up,
- 1:07:41wheelchair, basketball wheelchair.
- 1:07:43You can get this in Decathlon apparently.
- 1:07:46And it's me up first. Yes, it is.
- 1:07:49Yeah. I'm I'm assuming they're like,
- 1:07:51they must be some parts of it fiberglass or like carbon fiber.
- 1:07:56I'm just I'm talking specifically about Decathlon 1.
- 1:07:59I'm going to go for 3 grand. OK.
- 1:08:07On a very quick side note, have you seen Lidl or releasing
- 1:08:11carbon fibre running? Shoes.
- 1:08:12Yes, I saw that this morning. Yeah.
- 1:08:14I don't know why I remember. I know a person.
- 1:08:16I'll sort you a pair. Perfect.
- 1:08:19He's not allowed. To no, no, no.
- 1:08:20I'll sort him a pair to look at. Oh cool.
- 1:08:22I'm going to go 755 lbs. £2799.99 Damn it Charles, you
- 1:08:33take the win. Crazy expensive, isn't it crazy?
- 1:08:35Expensive. We've got four more, so we're.
- 1:08:36Going to get through them, Decathlon.
- 1:08:37It might be cheaper, yeah. So did I.
- 1:08:39When it came up, I was like, that's quite a lot of money.
- 1:08:41Yeah, that's crazy. Fencing clothing.
- 1:08:46This hasn't got the sensors in it.
- 1:08:47This is just like, I can't. It's called.
- 1:08:49I've not written it down. It was a fancy name. 275 lbs.
- 1:08:54I'm not sure it's me first, but I'm going to go first.
- 1:08:55It was me first. OK, I don't want to admit that I
- 1:08:59used to do fencing. I don't know what to do with the
- 1:09:02information. You just said take, take, OK.
- 1:09:05As you will. I'm going to say like £150.
- 1:09:09Charlie takes to win 195 lbs from Excalibur Sport.
- 1:09:11What did you say? No, he.
- 1:09:13Takes you said 200 and you 2. 175.
- 1:09:16Oh, OK. Sorry, sorry, sorry.
- 1:09:20I should have just. I should have just let angers.
- 1:09:21Yeah, I. Wasn't having that.
- 1:09:23Last two, a baseball plate specifically from pro baseball
- 1:09:27shop. There's definitely cheaper
- 1:09:29options out there because you could buy one that's made of
- 1:09:31paper, but like we're talking about one which you could like,
- 1:09:33it's mine. Yeah, I have no idea what
- 1:09:35they're even made of. They look like this is.
- 1:09:37A home plate. £300 a. £100. One penny off mate £99.99 you
- 1:09:48know your baseball. I know my baseball base.
- 1:09:50The second to last one. I'm moving to 2nd to last
- 1:09:54because it is partially political.
- 1:09:56How much does an F15 fighter jet cost?
- 1:09:59Or Europe. £50 million. The guys, I was going to guess
- 1:10:08exactly the same. So I'm going to say I'm going to
- 1:10:11up it. Might as well just say like
- 1:10:1375,000,000. £67,000,000 on $90,000,000 So every time you
- 1:10:17see one of those go down because of governments being silly,
- 1:10:19that's what. That's why you can't buy a
- 1:10:21house. 67,000,000 lbs Sixty. £7 million for one.
- 1:10:25So working that out realistically, it's like Dominic
- 1:10:30Solanke is the same as a yeah, F50 fights, yeah.
- 1:10:33Yeah, yeah, wicked. But there aren't like hundreds
- 1:10:36of Dominic Solankeys flying around the world at the moment,
- 1:10:39as far as I'm aware Anyway. Now this one's going to be a
- 1:10:42complete tangent as a question, but it is a great question.
- 1:10:47Charlie is a big fan and a big reviewer of a chicken Balti pie
- 1:10:51at football stadiums. He's actually got an entire list
- 1:10:54ranking them. We might save that for the next
- 1:10:56episode or talk about it another time.
- 1:10:58However, what I want to know is how much is a chicken balti pie
- 1:11:02at Wrexham Football Club from the Pied Piper?
- 1:11:07I will also caveat that this isn't currently on their menu,
- 1:11:09but all their pies are the same price.
- 1:11:11It's my turn, right? Football pie.
- 1:11:14Football pie. Chicken balti price in a
- 1:11:16stadium, so I don't know how much I'd pay for a pie normally.
- 1:11:21I'm not a big pie guy. I'm going to say 3. 5350. 449.
- 1:11:31Charlie, you take the win, it's £4.05.
- 1:11:34I think I I thought it might be 4 lbs that's why I went for
- 1:11:384:49. Nice, Very, very nice.
- 1:11:39Well, I'm not even sure what the scores are.
- 1:11:42They're I've probably put them on the screen, but that's the
- 1:11:45the conclusion of that game 84. To you.
- 1:11:48I never, I never see anyone competitive.
- 1:11:50You can track exactly. Well, that's why.
- 1:11:53Guesstimate the benefit for Charlie in this one and for you
- 1:11:55guys at home if you didn't do better.
- 1:11:57Neither of them is. This, as I've said, is part one
- 1:12:00of two episodes. So we will be doing a different
- 1:12:02game which you might be able to take these guys on at.
- 1:12:05I think I'm going to be playing it next time, so we'll get into
- 1:12:07that. But that's what rounds off
- 1:12:10episode 1 of this little two-part series.
- 1:12:12Charlie, if you've got anything to say before we let them go for
- 1:12:15a week before they can come back for the next one.
- 1:12:19I hope that Glasgow and London went well for me and if you're
- 1:12:22racing in it, I hope it went well for you.
- 1:12:25What a guy. If you want to find Charlie on
- 1:12:27any socials, you can find him at.
- 1:12:31Charlie dot Botterel. There we go.
- 1:12:33And if you want to find us, please do drops, follow drops,
- 1:12:36subscribe at Mindsets under score podcast.
- 1:12:38You'll find everything there. Like I said, if you want to get
- 1:12:41involved with the grind my gears or if you've got topics you want
- 1:12:43us to talk about with other guests or just between myself
- 1:12:45and Charles, do send them in. We read all of those messages
- 1:12:48and we appreciate every single one.
- 1:12:50So unless there's anything else from you, Charles?
- 1:12:52Don't think so. Look forward to seeing you all
- 1:12:54in the next episode.
