Latest / Cage Match: A Roundabout Way of Meeting Nicolas Cage / Moonstruck vs Raising Arizona
Transcript
- 0:00Oh, God.
- 0:03Oh, my God.
- 0:08Oh, neat.
- 0:12And we're only missing one thing.
- 0:25Uh, it wouldn't be a Moonstruck episode without sparkling wine and sugar cubes.
- 0:30True.
- 0:32Which Nick got in a solid brick of sugar cubes.
- 0:37Yeah, they don't apparently distribute 30 cubes anymore.
- 0:42You have to buy like 120.
- 0:44It's ridiculous.
- 0:46Well, you can be like John and just have like the Werther's in your pocket, but instead it's just like loose sugar cubes gradually breaking down.
- 0:53Just start befriending horses all over the place.
- 0:56Exactly.
- 0:58All right. Cheers.
- 1:00Happy Moonstruck.
- 1:01Yeah.
- 1:02Oh, but also Horn Quack is going to be down here this week, apparently.
- 1:07Oh, nice.
- 1:08He's taking a vacation.
- 1:10I don't know if he's looked at the weather, but it's going to snow.
- 1:13So that'll be fun for him.
- 1:14He's going to have a miserable time.
- 1:16Is he having a vacation with his girlfriend, not girlfriend?
- 1:18Or is it a solo vacation?
- 1:21Yeah, Portland is usually the the quality of vacation he would bring Sam on.
- 1:27That's what I was thinking, too.
- 1:28It's like, yeah, we're going to go to Vancouver, Washington.
- 1:32Have you found any like particularly bad ass things to do or eat or anything like axe throwing or axe eating or eating?
- 1:43Yeah, yeah.
- 1:44Pretty bad ass.
- 1:45Yeah, right. Unicycle throwing, axe eating.
- 1:48I've found some pretty great restaurants through time left.
- 1:53There was a bar we went to on Wednesday after dinner that had I got a Goosebumps book at one of those vending machines.
- 2:01Yes. What kind of Goosebumps book?
- 2:03Tell me about it.
- 2:04Haunted Mask 2.
- 2:05I'm halfway through it.
- 2:07I can say as an adult, it being almost 30 years since I've read a Goosebumps book.
- 2:14Goosebumps.
- 2:15I've read it before, but it's a kid's book.
- 2:18It's incredibly horny.
- 2:19Still so much fun.
- 2:20And I definitely have read this one because I'm like, like I'm, you know, I mean, one, it's a kid's book, so it's not hard to predict what's going to happen.
- 2:28But I'm like, I definitely remember the concrete soccer ball prank.
- 2:34Oh, snap. That's rude.
- 2:36I like to ask coworkers and especially apprentices what their favorite Goosebumps book was.
- 2:44The Camp Jelly Jam book.
- 2:46I don't know if I remember that one.
- 2:48It had like a big blob monster that was like, do you remember the kids or something at the camp?
- 2:54Yeah. Camp Jelly Jam.
- 2:56Twice this week, I needed to ask for help from an adult in my outings in the city.
- 3:03One was to get the Goosebumps book.
- 3:05One was to get the Goosebumps book.
- 3:07I like bought it.
- 3:09Did you have to do it like a claw game?
- 3:11No, it was it was just a vending machine and like came out.
- 3:14But the way the flap worked, it was like it had a wedge.
- 3:18So you couldn't like your hand like once it was up, you couldn't get your hand in there.
- 3:22But because the book fell like straight down, the wedge would just hit the book and you couldn't actually get it out.
- 3:28So my friend Tiffany, I were like, what the fuck are we going to do?
- 3:32I'm like, I might have to break this thing open.
- 3:34We're going to have to run.
- 3:35But yeah, I asked the bartender and she's like, yeah, this happens a lot.
- 3:39Our Goosebumps books are always getting jammed.
- 3:43Jelly jammed.
- 3:47And the other one was that the other one was at Powell's books.
- 3:51It was a big book week.
- 3:53They had a copy of Earth X, which I've been looking for for Marvel.
- 3:57And it was on a shelf just just a little bit higher than I could reach.
- 4:01Like I was just exactly what I imagined.
- 4:04I was like, was it too tall?
- 4:07Just from being able to like touch the bottom of the book.
- 4:10So I went to I went to the help counter and they're like, how can we help you?
- 4:15And I'm like, I need an adult.
- 4:18And then the tallest lady got it for me and that was hot.
- 4:22Ah, that's just another reason for wearing bigger heels.
- 4:27So you should start practicing with stripper heels.
- 4:31There you go. Big chunky.
- 4:33This is about being able to reach things up high.
- 4:35Yeah, don't make it weird. Come on, Portland.
- 4:38Yeah, just a dude rolling around in stripper heels.
- 4:43Don't don't worry about it.
- 4:45I was wearing my high boots.
- 4:48Still too high. Still too tall.
- 4:50Still too tall. Yeah, that'll happen.
- 4:52Yeah, I like that you got an Amazon to help you, though.
- 4:55Did you then like cradle you and carry you back to the
- 4:59hot check out? That's the dream.
- 5:02That really is what I'm looking for.
- 5:04I'm looking for a woman who can finish my fights for me because I,
- 5:09as you know, I talk a lot of shit and I cannot back it up.
- 5:13Someone who can fold you like laundry and finish your fights.
- 5:16I like it. Oh, I like being tossed around.
- 5:19What? Yeah, that is probably for the best.
- 5:23That you find someone like that. Yeah, exactly.
- 5:26Like you said, you need somebody who can baby
- 5:28Bjorn you, but as a full house.
- 5:31Oh, man, that'd be so cool.
- 5:34You're a little cranky. You just get put in the baby Bjorn
- 5:36and you're like, oh,
- 5:39really listening to ourselves, the podcasts,
- 5:45really listening to ourselves when we're doing
- 5:47whatever our last episode was, it's how much I'm like,
- 5:50this fucking week has sucked.
- 5:52But I really listen when listening to whatever went up against
- 5:56Conair, went up against Spirit of On John's, I believe, at one point.
- 6:00Mm hmm. On John's.
- 6:02Von John's. But just talking about.
- 6:05I enjoyed hearing us talk about our various hell vehicles and how I.
- 6:09Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 6:11Nick, every once in a. Yeah.
- 6:14Every once in a while, I look at something and I'm like,
- 6:17I could ghostwriter that I could just like set it on fire
- 6:20and roll down the street with it.
- 6:23Like what was what's the most recent thing you've seen that you thought of?
- 6:27Oh, I think it was just like a large dog.
- 6:30Why would you roll the dog?
- 6:32I mean, if it's on fire, I guess it's not going.
- 6:34Everything turns into wheels. Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:36The feet just turn into big flaming wheels.
- 6:39And it's happening in the first one. Yeah.
- 6:42But that's because the first one wasn't as good as the second one.
- 6:46That is fucking true. That is really true.
- 6:50Yeah. One I hated and one I thought was great. Yeah.
- 6:53Yeah. Depending on the dog, different parts would be fiery.
- 6:56Maybe fiery eyes, maybe just like some little flaky ears.
- 7:00There's a YouTube channel I watch.
- 7:02I can't remember his nerd style trick or Captain Midnight,
- 7:05but talked about how like ghostwriter there should how there should be like 20
- 7:09ghostwriter movies by now, how this franchise really should sell itself.
- 7:13And the only reason it really hasn't is because of Nicholas Cage,
- 7:16which is too bad because that would be the best.
- 7:19I like if we had just three more like captive stories of
- 7:25Nicholas Cage ghostwriter now like it.
- 7:29There doesn't need to be big continuity like Ghostwriter doesn't have some big
- 7:34character arc, right? Not really.
- 7:37Just the ghostwriter. Yeah.
- 7:39Kind of like his whole vibe. Yeah.
- 7:41Standalone films are terrific. It could be like Mad Max,
- 7:44where they could be a very different like qualities and and stories.
- 7:50And then like arguably one of your best ones could not even be about the title
- 7:54character and no one went and saw it. And now the franchise is dead again.
- 7:58My favorite thing about the Mad Max films was always that it was.
- 8:03Other people telling stories of Max. Yeah.
- 8:07So it's like how Max interacts with the greater apocalypse world.
- 8:13Yeah. Or that it might not even be the same person and just he's become like
- 8:17the Johnny Appleseed of the fucking hell back. Yeah, exactly.
- 8:21So he's just like a big story and that's fun.
- 8:24And I think it's a great way to excuse like changing the actor whenever you feel
- 8:29like it, whenever one of them like says something super exactly gets canceled.
- 8:33It's like, oh, OK, not even in the apocalypse.
- 8:37Can you complain about the anti-Semitic? Yeah.
- 8:43Benjamin Franklin Gates is finally out of the cone of shame.
- 8:47Has he discovered that his balls are missing yet?
- 8:50Has he taken a look down there? He was he was aware immediately.
- 8:55I had taken back for his like one week check or his one week
- 8:59check yesterday, and he was not happy to be back there.
- 9:03Bad things happen. Bad things happen at the vet.
- 9:06My dog has never really cared about going back to the vet afterwards.
- 9:10They're fine with it. That's where other dogs are.
- 9:13So they get to smell where all the other dogs are.
- 9:16Then they always come home with cat hair and dog hair all over them.
- 9:19I notice an absence of balls here, though. Yeah.
- 9:22Yeah. The fucking weirdest part, though, Ben, never been a humper.
- 9:26Now that he doesn't have testicles, fucking the humpin. Really?
- 9:29That's weird. Yeah. No, it was like I know what I've lost.
- 9:33I was like getting ready for bed the other night and he just like fucking
- 9:37cone on like tried to Mount Rose and all three of us looked shocked at what was happening.
- 9:44He didn't even seem to know what or why he was doing it.
- 9:47Yeah. Just like unlocked some deep muscle memory.
- 9:52Just in denial about the whole thing.
- 9:56Well, did you guys want to talk about Moonstruck or Raising Arizona first?
- 9:59I want to talk about in Raising Arizona. Well, here's the movie.
- 10:03I want to talk about how just unhinged that world really is.
- 10:08And how does high exist in it?
- 10:10Like high is the only normal person in that movie in that entire like world.
- 10:15Kind of normal. Yeah.
- 10:17I mean, he is very much a larger than life human.
- 10:21The way he hits on the the.
- 10:24The person taking his photos, slapping his butt.
- 10:28He's a dumb dumb and he doesn't meet.
- 10:30He's, you know, a handsome dummy who doesn't get to meet a lot of people
- 10:33and, you know, fucking small town.
- 10:35Yeah. Everybody kind of exists in like a decreased mental like maturity state.
- 10:42Yeah. Nobody's really ready to be an adult in that film.
- 10:45Oh, yeah. Like no one on this podcast is ready to be an adult.
- 10:49So let's, you know, cast aspersions here.
- 10:52Not not true. I'm ready to be four adults in one trench coat.
- 10:56Yeah. Four small adults in a trench coat.
- 10:59That's what I've always been.
- 11:01Two of them are dick.
- 11:05Those are the two that control the mouth.
- 11:09Those two also control the mouth. The dick is the mouth.
- 11:12Yeah. As it is designed. Yeah.
- 11:14Yeah. You should watch me eat spaghetti.
- 11:17But no, Sean, I think you do have a good point, though.
- 11:21Like, I mean, hi is also over the top, but like everybody in that movie
- 11:25is just like such a caricature. They're so, so.
- 11:29Why is he is the straight man?
- 11:31He is the only person who like really pushes things and not pushes things forward.
- 11:36Like he's along. He's he's really just along for the ride.
- 11:39But even like Ed, her performance, great.
- 11:42But it's just like it's so wild and like everyone else cages out in this movie.
- 11:47And cage is kind of the most like just relaxed individual who's just who has no control.
- 11:54He's just there for it.
- 11:55Like he is our audience surrogate to an extent.
- 11:58He's definitely the the tracks that the train is riding.
- 12:03Yeah, that's exactly like it's really hit me this time watching it during the chase sequence
- 12:10because it never I never tripped on the fact that the grocery store clerk just starts blasting.
- 12:16He's not involved in the chase whatsoever.
- 12:19He just starts shoot like shooting off.
- 12:22He's just like, there's some sort of crime going on here.
- 12:25Yeah, he's been itching for it. Yeah.
- 12:27Yeah. And just like, oh, that's the world.
- 12:29Asia high existent.
- 12:32Yeah, I really enjoyed rewatching it again.
- 12:36I was watching these on the plane as I was flying to San Diego, and it was just so fun watching this movie.
- 12:41And I love the soundtrack. I love the crazy energy of it.
- 12:44It's so like the facial work that cage does.
- 12:47It's just it's really, really good. It's really fun.
- 12:50Yeah. I mean, even beyond just Nicholas Cage films,
- 12:55I think this film exists in like a high, high tier of comedies.
- 13:01Yeah, especially comedies of like the 80s, where everything was kind of turning towards that like racy comedy like your porkies.
- 13:09Yeah, exactly.
- 13:11This this elevates. Good job, Cohen brothers.
- 13:15Yeah, no, I mean, this is such a great comedy.
- 13:18I was re listening to our conversation with Alex about it and just like this is a this is a comedy where no one knows they're in a comedy.
- 13:25Like everyone kind of plays their character so straight, even John Goodman, who's probably the most over the top, still kind of plays it pretty straight.
- 13:34Right. Like in the sense that no matter how wild they are, that's normal for the world.
- 13:42Yeah. Yeah, it feels natural for all of them to be so much.
- 13:48I do want to also talk on how this is one of Nicholas Cage's best physical performances, like his just physicality and so much of the humor of his characters really just and how he composes himself and how he moves through this world.
- 14:03And like I think of Nick Cage as an actor, I think of that bombastic, those weird like ticks and like vocal performances he does where he doesn't have a lot of that in this.
- 14:15He has the accent, but so much of high is just his body.
- 14:20And I loved it so much. And it was just so entertaining.
- 14:24One thing that kind of trips me up about this movie is just knowing that he and the Coens didn't get along.
- 14:30And I really want to know what was like the backbreaker.
- 14:33Like what was going on? What was he trying to bring to it that they were like?
- 14:37No, dude. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. I haven't heard a lot of stories about their process from other films.
- 14:45So I don't know if they are like super rigid or if it seems like they have vision usually.
- 14:51And it's like you probably have to fit pretty well into it.
- 14:53It was pretty early in their career, too, though. And after something like what was that first film called Blood Simple?
- 15:02Like that, that just didn't have as great of a reception as maybe they had hoped.
- 15:07Maybe they wanted to control that. Have a little more tight, tight grip on the entire thing.
- 15:12You look at their filmography, you look at the types of movies they have done.
- 15:17I get the feeling that they run a really tight chip.
- 15:19Like what's on the what's on the page is on the page. And that's what they're going to film.
- 15:23I can see them not being necessarily open to a lot of wild swings.
- 15:30Yeah. And I feel like Cage at this point in his career was more about wild swings and was more about that kind of like, you know, wild energy and being free and open.
- 15:39And, you know, I think there was some probably more willingness to do improv work at that point in his career versus later.
- 15:46Well, like when we talk, you know, like with Moonstruck, the other film that this is going up against right now.
- 15:51By the way, welcome back to Cage Metricullin around about meeting Nicolas Cage. I'm your host, Sean, here with my co-host Nick.
- 15:57And I'm Nick. Peter. Hello. Nice job.
- 16:02And in this we are in the master eight.
- 16:06We have we're in the comedy section from our bracket going Moonstruck versus Raising Arizona.
- 16:12Like how we were just talking about it.
- 16:15Peter, put that Peter, put that where it belongs in the episode, please.
- 16:19Exactly here. I know where it belongs. Right next to my two adult dick.
- 16:24Like with the other film that we're talking about this week with Moonstruck,
- 16:29he got hired for that based on his fucking insane performance in Peggy Sue Got Married.
- 16:35Right. And Moonstruck and Raising Arizona both came out in 87.
- 16:39So like you have those very there's much wilder swings of, you know, my hand to just very kind of.
- 16:48Calm, good old boy.
- 16:51Yeah, there was a lot of like interconnectivity between these two movies through our bracket, too,
- 16:56because Raising Arizona beat out Peggy Sue Got Married, which got him the role for Moonstruck.
- 17:01It's like this kind of circular craziness of our own process on this bracket.
- 17:07I also like that we in separate episodes talked about smoking indoors.
- 17:12Oh, so in separate episodes for the different movies, we talked about the movie Splash.
- 17:18Yeah, incorrectly.
- 17:21I love that every time we talk about mermaids and splash, we are thinking of the wrong one.
- 17:25Yeah, it's always overboard.
- 17:27For some reason, overboard with Goldie Hawn comes up a lot.
- 17:31Let's go watch over board.
- 17:33Yeah, I'll let Josie put it on and I'll just come in and out.
- 17:36That's a Goldie Hawn cast. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:39I was I just remembered I've been asking people this question and since it is February and pretty much the season of love now.
- 17:50We've had discussions about vanilla penis, just single penis, and we've talked about two penis.
- 17:59Are we talking claspers like sharks again?
- 18:01Well, it could be claspers or like just the the concept of like double stackers or side by side.
- 18:08I've been thinking a lot more about three dicks and whether it's like vertical stack horizontal or triangle or like some triangle.
- 18:20And then is it triangle one down or two down?
- 18:23I think it's like a spaceship gun or something that can rotate.
- 18:26It rotates like a gatlin gun. Yeah.
- 18:28So as you like blast, it's just like whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack, whack.
- 18:32Nice. I like that.
- 18:33That'd be hard to control.
- 18:34That'd be hard to whack off with. But I guess once you have three dicks, you don't have to whack off anymore.
- 18:40You're made here. You've got a whole.
- 18:42Got everything you need. Yeah.
- 18:44But I like the thought of three side by side, because then they would lay across your sack and down like a cuttlefish.
- 18:51Oh, yeah. Tentacles on it. And then when you fart, they could ripple.
- 18:54I like that. Yeah. That's how I think about it.
- 18:57I fucked up not doing the intro now.
- 19:00Yeah, exactly.
- 19:02You could just say it again.
- 19:04I can throw another one out there.
- 19:06Now, man, we're in good form.
- 19:09Yeah.
- 19:11Just just add one more adult between my other two adults down there.
- 19:17I'm now five adults in a trench coat.
- 19:20I will say I'm not recording on a Monday like a Monday immediately after I get off work is definitely helping my energy.
- 19:26Yeah, there you go. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I know.
- 19:29So, OK, let's keep talking about raising Arizona for a bit and then we can pivot over to Moonstruck.
- 19:33So raising a zone now.
- 19:36That kid is that kid disappeared after this movie.
- 19:40He never went into acting again. Oh, Nathan Jr. Yeah.
- 19:43Interesting. I wonder what his residuals are like.
- 19:46I wonder what a baby makes for a role.
- 19:49And then what do they make long term for residual checks like that kid probably just gets a check every year.
- 19:55Probably I would I would assume based on the fact that they were kind of not well known directors.
- 20:03And I don't think I don't know if that kid gets a check.
- 20:08It's probably less than like less than it less than we can cash in a bank.
- 20:13I don't know if that's going to be true.
- 20:15I mean, like Rachel recorded on a Macklemore album and she's like in one part of one track and she makes like, I don't know, 30 bucks a year.
- 20:23That just comes as a residual check. It's like I think raising Arizona has more exposure in a lot of senses.
- 20:29But I don't know. Well, it depends on the contract.
- 20:32But yeah, I mean, we're getting into nitty gritties.
- 20:34A two year old's not going to negotiate the contract.
- 20:37Well, hopefully they didn't negotiate their own deal.
- 20:41Or I guess off the topic of Nathan Jr.
- 20:48I was talking to my project manager the other day and we were talking about how we needed Damon Wayans to be our electrical inspector.
- 20:57No. Yeah. Damon Wayans.
- 20:59And he's like, yeah, it could be Damon Wayans.
- 21:02And then his brother, Damon Wayans Jr. could.
- 21:05And I was like, how do you think juniors work? Yeah.
- 21:09You think it's like also.
- 21:11Well, he was the littler one.
- 21:12But how would you feel if you were a younger brother and you were named for your brother?
- 21:20Weirdly enough, it's like, oh, man, Steve was so good.
- 21:23You're Steve, too. Yeah. You're just the junior.
- 21:27Not new, Steve. But you have to live up to the Steve mantle.
- 21:31OK. We had Harry, Gary.
- 21:36I think it was a Larry. It was a Larry, too.
- 21:38I think Larry. Yeah. But like Harry, Larry, Barry, Gary, Jerry, you know, and Nathan Jr.
- 21:46Yeah. They know where the love is.
- 21:49Clearly one of those kids was favored.
- 21:52Yeah. That tells me that tells me they didn't know they were having five kids.
- 21:56For Mrs. Arizona.
- 22:00What was her name like Gladys or something? Oh, I don't even know.
- 22:03Must have been the most boring. Like she just looks like a Gladys or a.
- 22:08Terry. Constance.
- 22:10Terry. It's a real fun film.
- 22:15I'm always going to love watching it.
- 22:18It was it was a treat listening to all of our. Florence. Oh, Florence.
- 22:23Oh, yeah. Obviously, Florence.
- 22:25I was thinking about like my first view, my first couple of times watching this film
- 22:30and definitely coming back to it, being so familiar with it now, getting out of
- 22:35feeling like the need like that initial those initial watches were to critique the film
- 22:40and to like really have to form a strong opinion on the outset
- 22:45and now just being able to like watch this movie for fun.
- 22:48It's so good. It's just so entertaining.
- 22:51And there's so much heart and character behind the whole thing.
- 22:56And I think it's so good.
- 23:00I think it's so good.
- 23:02I think it's so good.
- 23:04I think it's so good.
- 23:06Okay, I figured it out.
- 23:08Florence. Lawrence. Larry.
- 23:12Larry's named for the mom. There you go.
- 23:14There we go. Okay.
- 23:16Florence, Lawrence, Larry.
- 23:18We can always we can finally move on.
- 23:20Larry is short for Lawrence, right?
- 23:22Sure. What would it be short for? Otherwise, old.
- 23:25I think it's the same kind of takeaway.
- 23:26It's like the first time I watched it, I was like, I don't know.
- 23:28Second time I was like, this is a cartoon and I love it.
- 23:30Thanks to you guys.
- 23:32And then since then, it's just like this is such a fun movie
- 23:35and watching it on the airplane, like both seat people next to me were watching, too.
- 23:39You know, it's like you just got drawn in, didn't have any audio,
- 23:42but they're just like, yeah, good movie.
- 23:44You know, I'm going to say I think Nicolas Cage makes the best airplane movies.
- 23:49I think you might be watching Nicolas Cage movie on an airplane
- 23:52and somebody is going to be like, fuck, yeah, dude, this is exactly how my flight needed to go.
- 23:57Unless it's City of Angels.
- 24:00The 9-Eleven movie probably isn't a great one either.
- 24:04That's a conversation starter.
- 24:07That's true. Oh, with aviation nowadays, I don't know if I'd watch that.
- 24:13It's like I don't just taking notes.
- 24:18This is bad.
- 24:19I still want a cut of City of Angels where after he falls, he just speaks like fucking Latin
- 24:26or fucking ancient Sumerian or just speaks some dead language because that's all he knows.
- 24:33It's so funny that he speaks American English.
- 24:37I know. Well, should have been a Boston cop.
- 24:40He falls and just has a Bostonian, a bad Boston accent.
- 24:44He landed on his head.
- 24:46When we do the game, I'm just going to do Boston cop for everything.
- 24:49I'm pretty sure most cops were dropped on their head.
- 24:52There's definitely something wrong with cops.
- 24:55Well established theme.
- 24:58So let's see, Raising Arizona on its path here to the Master Eight.
- 25:02It took out Trapped in Paradise, which I still think is kind of a low key banger, but stupid movie.
- 25:07I liked it.
- 25:09You are fucking definitely wrong.
- 25:12I've thought about rewatching it.
- 25:14I thought about rewatching it for Christmas.
- 25:17I was going to bring it up and make my parents watch it.
- 25:19I think that movie is is not as bad as you guys made it out to be.
- 25:23It is definitely bad.
- 25:24I think. Yeah, I think it just got overshadowed hard.
- 25:27Like maybe I should rewatch it.
- 25:29I mean, I own it.
- 25:30I wait, do I? I don't think I own that one.
- 25:33That's one of the four that I don't have those for po boys.
- 25:36Yeah. And then it took out Peggy Sue got married after that.
- 25:39And then the probably its toughest go was The Weatherman, which great movie.
- 25:44Yeah, terrific. Going through the comedy bracket.
- 25:48So few of these are like comedies.
- 25:52Yeah, I mean, he has a couple of those romantic comedies.
- 25:54He has a couple of true comedies, but most of them are just sort of like, I guess there's humor in here.
- 26:00He's not being just like a somber dude.
- 26:04Yeah, a little a little darker character, but still with a har har.
- 26:08In terms of like the actual bracket, like in terms of straight up comedies, we have this.
- 26:13Our army of one in paradise.
- 26:16Yeah. Trapped in Paradise was a comedy.
- 26:19Yeah. I mean, Honeymoon in Vegas was a comedy, but it.
- 26:22Honeymoon in Vegas. Yeah.
- 26:24I have fond memories of Honeymoon in Vegas.
- 26:28I just like Roy Bacon, man.
- 26:30That guy with the big fucking teeth. Oh, man. Yeah.
- 26:33You know, I think more and more about how there aren't enough Elvis's in my life.
- 26:37And I need to try to find a way to include more of them.
- 26:40Also, I need to get that Elvis suit that I talked about. Absolutely.
- 26:44Still sounds like a good idea.
- 26:46Maybe it's like my Thursday night outfit. Yeah.
- 26:49I like a good investment. Yeah.
- 26:51Josie will be vacuuming sequins out of all the couches and everything all the time.
- 26:55Oh, my God. We had a friend give Cora these like angel fairy wings or something.
- 27:01And they have all this sparkly shit in them.
- 27:03And it is literally everywhere, every piece of clothing I have.
- 27:07I look down and there's like one little sparkle.
- 27:10God damn it. You know, I'll go to work and look in the mirror and there's like glitter on my face.
- 27:14Oh, my God. Yeah. You've been back at those strip clubs.
- 27:17Wings. Yeah.
- 27:20I. OK. I'm speaking of strip clubs.
- 27:23Yeah, I'm very all over the place this morning.
- 27:26But so for my birthday, like afterwards, we went to
- 27:31one of the local gentleman's clubs,
- 27:34and I have never been to a Washington strip club because I think they're stupid.
- 27:39And this was the most terrifying experience of my life.
- 27:43Like, well, not necessarily that like they are threatening
- 27:47and they are like predators when you go in there.
- 27:50Like they it's a weird, like all open, big, like just space
- 27:57with just chairs that you might find at like the VFW, like set up all over the place.
- 28:04And there are so many women working there.
- 28:09And they're like, as soon as you sit down, one will be there and like, are you ready for a dance?
- 28:14And I'm like, I sat down just now and like I haven't even gotten my black coffee
- 28:19because I'm not allowed to drink in here. Exactly. I need some sort of thrill.
- 28:23Yeah. And then she'll walk away and then immediately another one shows up.
- 28:27But it's like an unending stream.
- 28:29And I'm like, I'm just going to drink my coffee and go like, I don't.
- 28:33Also, it's weird drinking a gigantic mug.
- 28:36It was an oversized coffee mug of black coffee.
- 28:40I'm like, OK, this is maybe this was a strange choice, but I don't drink soda.
- 28:44So it's like, was it hot coffee?
- 28:48I love that image of you getting like a dance with a hot coffee.
- 28:52This hot coffee out of the way.
- 28:54Yeah. Don't don't spill it on me.
- 28:56Everyone will regret that. Yeah. Oh, my.
- 28:59Oh, my God. This is terrible. Amazing.
- 29:02Yeah. So I, you know, went back, had a couple of beers and then went back in.
- 29:07I go. Is it more fun then?
- 29:09No, it was still like it might have been worse because they're like, he came back.
- 29:13It's like, no, I'm sorry.
- 29:16You're just like, I'm going to throw like 15 random ones all over the place.
- 29:21So, you know, I was just like, I'm going to throw a bunch of them.
- 29:25Like, I don't want to throw them.
- 29:27It's just drunk.
- 29:28Just loose quarters. Yeah.
- 29:30I had a professor like my advisor in college
- 29:34used to always talk about trying to like
- 29:37bring frozen quarters to the strip club
- 29:40so he could bounce them off the stage
- 29:43and try to stick them to the dancer.
- 29:46I'm like, I don't think that
- 29:47You guys want to get together and like, just baby oil each other and try to.
- 29:50See what we can stick to each other.
- 29:52Like frozen quarters at each other.
- 29:55Sean, you in next time you're up.
- 29:59I'm good.
- 30:00Okay.
- 30:01Uh, okay.
- 30:02So raising Arizona.
- 30:03Any more final thoughts on it?
- 30:04Anything that you got from relisting the last episode or anything?
- 30:07No, I'm not.
- 30:08I'm not.
- 30:09I'm not.
- 30:09I'm not.
- 30:10I'm not.
- 30:10I'm not.
- 30:10I'm not.
- 30:11I'm not.
- 30:11I'm not.
- 30:12I'm not.
- 30:12I'm not.
- 30:12I'm not.
- 30:12I'm not.
- 30:12I'm not.
- 30:12I'm not.
- 30:13I'm not.
- 30:13I'm not.
- 30:13I'm not.
- 30:13Raising Arizona any more final thoughts on it anything that you got from
- 30:16re listening to ourselves or re watching a fourth slash fifth time?
- 30:21No, I think my favorite part of going back through it all was
- 30:26listening to like you come around to it.
- 30:30Yeah, like you were very much on the fence.
- 30:33It wasn't it wasn't that I wanted trapped in paradise to win that first time.
- 30:36It's just I didn't get it right as much.
- 30:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:41You were still developing an opinion.
- 30:43Yeah. Figuring out why why you liked it.
- 30:46That's fair. One thing I got from re listening to ourselves
- 30:49talk about it is how I have no original ideas and everything.
- 30:52I like made notes about talking about today.
- 30:54I'm like, I've covered that extensively.
- 30:58I know it is.
- 30:58It's wild listening to us talk about these because, you know, obviously each of them,
- 31:02they were many, many months and almost a year apart, you know, between our watches.
- 31:06And it's like, of course, we said similar things and had similar feelings.
- 31:10But when you stack up a relisten, it's like, holy shit.
- 31:13Yeah, we really lock on to the same idea.
- 31:19I will say,
- 31:20Foggin Smalls explosion
- 31:23almost as good as an explosion exploding Jessica Biel.
- 31:26I'm with you on that.
- 31:27That little finale with him trying to get out of the shotgun triggers
- 31:33or whatever the guards.
- 31:35Yeah, it's so good.
- 31:37And then just seeing the boom.
- 31:40The thing I want from next right now, though, is I want the one touch
- 31:43that Raising Arizona had with that explosion.
- 31:45I want next to have, which is after she exploded, I just want a single shoe
- 31:49to fall out of the ground and hit the roof.
- 31:51Yeah. A baby shoe. Yeah.
- 31:54Why did he have those baby shoes?
- 31:56Those were his baby shoes.
- 31:58And he keeps them as a reminder of his humanity.
- 32:00Like, well, he was like, oh, God, I'm trying to remember his backstory now.
- 32:04Like, wasn't he like an orphan or something?
- 32:09Like you that much information?
- 32:10Yeah, it's kind of snuck in there.
- 32:13Yeah, they gave you a story for Leonard.
- 32:15You just know he would like, I do they,
- 32:19you know, Leonard tells you he's a hunter of men, but that's about it.
- 32:24I'm like 99% sure those were his baby shoes
- 32:29because he had a rough upbringing.
- 32:31I don't know if it was in the foster system or
- 32:36if he was an orphan.
- 32:38But I think I mean, I like this, but I think I'm pretty sure you're making this up.
- 32:42Yeah, I think you're making it up, too, but I also like it.
- 32:45I just watched this last night.
- 32:47I don't remember any of this.
- 32:49Oh, well, whenever I see him with the two shotguns,
- 32:53I always think of Edward 40 hands and the need to get those off your hands
- 32:58before you explode sometimes.
- 33:00So did I can't remember if I've told this story before, but when I was in high school,
- 33:03we did Edward 40 hands over at my friend Peter's house.
- 33:08And you had a friend named Peter.
- 33:10Yeah. How confusing was it?
- 33:12Quite OK. I also have a friend named Peter now.
- 33:16We're not talking about Pete, though, right?
- 33:18No. Yeah, he's not a friend.
- 33:20No, definitely not.
- 33:21Pete and I think we only have one neck.
- 33:25You know, right? Good thing.
- 33:26I was the one who taped everyone's 40s on and then I got mine on.
- 33:31And then I had my second hand.
- 33:32I was like, what am I going to do? I can't tape with a 40 on one hand.
- 33:36And his mom, who was there and took all of our keys that night,
- 33:40was like, I will tape a 40 to your hands. Nice.
- 33:44How old are you? You said high school. How old were you?
- 33:47I mean, we were we were probably I think it was maybe like a summer
- 33:51between high school and college or college year one.
- 33:55You know, I think we were like 18, 18, 19.
- 33:58So I mean, we definitely were drinking underage and come at me, cops.
- 34:04Yeah. And so I just had this memory of her
- 34:06taping a taping a 40 to a underage person's hand and saying, have fun.
- 34:12The trick was wearing pants that you could pull down with
- 34:15without having to unbutton anything.
- 34:17Yes, but pants were key.
- 34:18Yeah. So I got I got the solution for you.
- 34:20Fucking skirt dress. Just there you go.
- 34:23Oh, that's true. Yeah.
- 34:25I always was a proponent of playing it at the beach,
- 34:28because then you could just walk out into the ocean. Smart.
- 34:30And just let loose and walk back in.
- 34:33Yeah, I like that. That's a good idea.
- 34:35Plus, then you can get you can break the glass on the beach.
- 34:39You just it goes back to being sand eventually.
- 34:41Don't call Steve Austin.
- 34:42Right there. It's like, I'm done.
- 34:45And now you've got glass taped to your hands and you can fight a drifter.
- 34:49Dude, this is a great plan.
- 34:51You guys want to go to the beach. Let's go to the beach.
- 34:52I know it's like snowing and shit, but
- 34:55it's all right.
- 34:57Let's move on to Moonstruck because that's an obvious transition.
- 35:00Yeah, this is Nick Cage.
- 35:01It is most charming, like talking Ronnie.
- 35:04Ronnie is like Nick Cage, his most charming character.
- 35:08Full stop.
- 35:09I don't know if I agree on that front, but he is very, very charmed.
- 35:12He has a massive amount of charisma.
- 35:14It's a small show. I mean, then Ronnie Kammerer, Kammerer.
- 35:18I mean, he's kind of an asshole, but I think he's got charisma.
- 35:22I don't know if I would say he's charming.
- 35:24He charmed the pants off Cher.
- 35:27Literally. Yeah. Well, take me to the bed.
- 35:32Looking back on this movie,
- 35:33I think the funniest thing listening to our episodes is what you got caught most
- 35:36on, Sean, which is just the timeline.
- 35:38You're just like, I just cannot understand how this could happen
- 35:41in three days time or whatever.
- 35:43Yeah. It's like every time.
- 35:45It's fucking it's weird.
- 35:47Well, she was trying to marry a guy for.
- 35:51Comfort comfort. Yeah.
- 35:52I mean, it's like it's pretty easy to then be like, yeah, no.
- 35:56We we looked this up the age difference between those two in real life.
- 36:02Oh, it's like 15, 20 years, something like that.
- 36:05Well, so he was alive.
- 36:07Danny, Danny Aiello was alive in like World War Two.
- 36:13Oh, sorry. Between Nicholas, Johnny and Ronnie.
- 36:16Yeah. So that's the thing.
- 36:17And then Nick Cage was born in the 60s.
- 36:2160s. He is 23 in this movie.
- 36:24I just did the math before I recorded this.
- 36:26He's 23.
- 36:28And Johnny is like, ironically, 48 or something like that.
- 36:32Yeah, he too.
- 36:34Monically, like we're at the the kitchen table scene.
- 36:38Ronnie's like, Johnny, you're 42 years old.
- 36:41So there's like a 20 year age gap between characters.
- 36:44Yeah. I like when we talked about this with Marissa and
- 36:46the what we came to at the end of it was like their mom fucks.
- 36:50Yeah. You know, that was just kind of a thing to like, right?
- 36:53Like they didn't have this movie.
- 36:55Fox. They didn't have good.
- 36:57Kind of Johnny.
- 36:59Yeah, Johnny definitely does not.
- 37:01Johnny doesn't fuck Johnny Cucks.
- 37:02No. Well, he does get to like sit there and watch in the end.
- 37:08He gets cucked for sure.
- 37:11This movie cracks me up.
- 37:12It's so we've talked about this, but like he just wants a mom.
- 37:16He just wants someone to take care of him because as soon as his mom isn't
- 37:19like, he even says at the end, like you propose to me, he's like,
- 37:21because my mom was dying like. Yeah.
- 37:24But they've never had sex.
- 37:26I do, too.
- 37:27Oh, yeah. No, they definitely had.
- 37:28No, no, he's maybe touched a boob once and then he did that.
- 37:32He did the same thing where he touches the boob and he goes
- 37:35like it's time. Yeah, exactly.
- 37:37Oh, I burned my hand for those damn nipples.
- 37:42Meanwhile, Bobo.
- 37:44Bobo, Mr. Johnny Longtime Bachelor.
- 37:47Oh, fucks.
- 37:49Bobo fucks. You know.
- 37:50Yeah. Bobo loves to fuck.
- 37:52He's a hard fucking individual.
- 37:56What do I think I looked like when he was younger?
- 37:59Probably exactly.
- 37:59Wasn't it that wasn't he like 13 when they recorded this film? Bobo. Yeah.
- 38:05That's a rough for 13.
- 38:08I'm on IMDb. Give me a second.
- 38:10I used to be on IMDb.
- 38:13My star power was unstoppable.
- 38:15One day we will be again.
- 38:18All right.
- 38:19Well, he's not in the top.
- 38:20Bobo isn't in the top cast, which.
- 38:22Yeah, I mean, shy waiter is a.
- 38:24Well, wait, shy waiter.
- 38:28Comes in before Bobo before Bobo.
- 38:30Yeah. Than a named character.
- 38:32He's been in 40 movies.
- 38:34He has a single picture on IMDb and it is of him in Moonstruck.
- 38:39He peaked too early. Yeah.
- 38:42What do we get off on that tangent?
- 38:45I don't know. I just wanted to.
- 38:46The grandma Bobo fucks.
- 38:49Johnny Cucks, Johnny Cucks.
- 38:51Yeah, Moonstruck.
- 38:52Again, watching it again and again and again, it's like every time I watch him,
- 38:56like, I really like this movie.
- 38:57It's very fun. It's very pleasant.
- 38:59The music is enjoyable.
- 39:01It moves at a good clip.
- 39:02Like the cast is fucking amazing.
- 39:05Going back to Bobo for a second.
- 39:08But what about it?
- 39:08Listen, if you want to talk about Bobo, we can talk about Bobo.
- 39:12I will always make space for Bobo.
- 39:14That actor, I was just like looking at his credits.
- 39:18That's Robert Watt.
- 39:20Robert Wheel.
- 39:21W.E.L.
- 39:22Robert Wheel is in a movie called
- 39:28the Hudsucker Proxy.
- 39:30Have you never seen that?
- 39:31That's the Coen Brothers.
- 39:32Not.
- 39:33Dude, it's so good. Never heard of this movie.
- 39:35OK, because I'm just looking at the cast.
- 39:37I'm like, I'm going to go watch this as soon as we get done here.
- 39:40Fucking John Mahoney, Bruce Campbell.
- 39:42You're going to love that movie. It's so good.
- 39:45Tim Robbins.
- 39:46Yeah, he invents the hula hoop.
- 39:49This all tracks. All right.
- 39:50It's fucking good. It's very good.
- 39:52Go watch that movie.
- 39:53Yeah. Bobo's in it.
- 39:54Ah, yes. Cage match, where you find out about all the non Nicholas Cage films
- 39:59you should be watching.
- 40:00Hey, we've been talking about these same movies for like 30 fucking.
- 40:04We've been talking about these same movies for almost three years.
- 40:06Yeah, we can we can talk about other shit.
- 40:08It's true. Has it been three years?
- 40:10I've just been locked in this basement.
- 40:13What is time? Yeah.
- 40:15OK. Honest, like, I mean, honestly, at a certain point,
- 40:17if we can't talk about other things, each episode would be like.
- 40:21So Raisin, Arizona, Raisin, Arizona.
- 40:24It's good.
- 40:25Nicholas Cage and Penises.
- 40:27That's all we talk about.
- 40:28Listen, we know what we're best at. Yeah.
- 40:30We have Moonstruck.
- 40:31So its path to here was a honeymoon in Vegas,
- 40:34almost one 그때 at max like six hours,
- 40:39I would say like a five applaud earlier,
- 40:39Lookout For War Front Kris Line Starting
- 40:51Mess movement, that was it on these POE combat
- 40:53this.
- 40:55Moonstruck.
- 40:57And the two best test Afghan
- 40:59blackmailers or iron man?
- 41:00One test army of one
- 41:02I definitely love Army of One, but yeah,
- 41:06Moonstruck is a well constructed film
- 41:09and Army of One did have some like sags in it.
- 41:13Yeah.
- 41:14But but it's so much fun.
- 41:15Oh, I love Army of One, man.
- 41:17I still really was thinking about this.
- 41:19I do think that we need to do some sort of, you know, retrospective
- 41:22after we're done with the actual main bracket and watch a couple of these,
- 41:25you know, like Primal and Army of One again and adaptation.
- 41:29We need to do it.
- 41:29We need to adaptation.
- 41:30We definitely need to rewatch and like talk about again.
- 41:35We know so much more.
- 41:36We're so much better at this.
- 41:38Well, we're less bad at it.
- 41:40We're different at this.
- 41:42At least let's not start talking like we're going to make different choices, though.
- 41:46No, I mean, I still kind of stand by what we made.
- 41:51100 percent.
- 41:52No, I don't want to like do that, but I don't.
- 41:54And I don't ever want to fucking do two movies per episode
- 41:56for any podcast in the future again.
- 41:59Never. But I think going back and.
- 42:03Like.
- 42:04Primal adaptation, just like watching some of these movies
- 42:08that got dropped off early for some for better reasons than others.
- 42:14Be fun to go back and actually talk about
- 42:17outside of this setup.
- 42:20Though, like in public,
- 42:22like just watch a movie and then meet up at a park and start talking.
- 42:26The strangers. Yeah.
- 42:28Let's meet at a cemetery. I like that.
- 42:30Oh, can we pass out like literature?
- 42:33Yes. Telling people to watch Nicolas Cage films.
- 42:35I want to make a zine.
- 42:37Yeah, we can go hang out by a Pacific place downtown
- 42:41next to the guy playing the zither or whatever.
- 42:44And the one talking about Jesus.
- 42:46Yes. Hand out flyers about Nick Cage.
- 42:48Yeah. About primal.
- 42:50Great. I check.
- 42:54But yeah, Moonstruck
- 42:55still said that such a great cast, everything about it.
- 42:59It fucks it cucks.
- 43:00It does everything you need.
- 43:02Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:03Oh, boy. Do you?
- 43:06I can't remember what our favorite parts of the film was before,
- 43:09but was there anything like that really got you hard this time?
- 43:14I'm always.
- 43:17OK, yeah, phrasing.
- 43:20But I'm going to stick with it.
- 43:21I still love like the sweeping the table and like like she
- 43:27Sharon Saltzim.
- 43:28He's like, Oh, I'm not going to take that sweeps
- 43:31the fucking drinks off the table and the steak that she made of meat.
- 43:36It's like, I'm taking you to the bedroom.
- 43:40Fucking dumbass voice.
- 43:42He does. He sounds so stupid in that.
- 43:44Where are you taking me?
- 43:46To the bedroom.
- 43:48To my futon.
- 43:50I love watching him like that steak just like with the hand
- 43:55just kind of crammed between fake fingers and just like sawing at it.
- 44:00Yeah, he was an absolute animal.
- 44:02He had a wolf in him.
- 44:04Yeah, I love the wolf.
- 44:05Just I love just both their performances like.
- 44:11I think you think of Cher, at least I think of Cher as like.
- 44:15The cultural icon she became.
- 44:18So seeing like seeing Loretta, seeing this very kind of just matter of fact,
- 44:23just person who's just kind of like giving up on life, just like, I'm here.
- 44:28I'm going to get married, I guess.
- 44:30But just seeing that.
- 44:33Not the.
- 44:35The caffeine is dipping quickly.
- 44:39Oh, go do a.
- 44:40Go put some grounds in your butt.
- 44:42Yeah, get some instant and just kind of.
- 44:44Yeah, boof it.
- 44:47And give me give me five minutes.
- 44:48I can make myself another cup.
- 44:53Yeah, no.
- 44:54Loretta is the like antithesis of Cher.
- 44:58Like, yeah. Oh, totally.
- 45:00Well, OK, so I like how she yeah, she's very kind of.
- 45:04Ho ho matter of fact, just like regular and Nick Cage.
- 45:08She starts down here. Nick Cage starts up here.
- 45:10And by the end, they're kind of both like.
- 45:13Wild swings and like their personalities, like by the end.
- 45:19He's kind of a normal dude.
- 45:22Yeah, he's got manners.
- 45:24Well, he was he probably always had manners.
- 45:28I mean, he definitely had like culture.
- 45:29He loved opera, that kind of stuff.
- 45:31He definitely was very dramatic, you know?
- 45:33I mean, it's like high mood swings and.
- 45:36Well, he'd been stewing in his own problems for so long.
- 45:39Sure. Like he like he definitely just broods down there.
- 45:43He's in a basement.
- 45:44Showing bread into a hot hole all day.
- 45:48Thinking about like a scene that really got like got me this time
- 45:52in a way that I hadn't really noticed before.
- 45:54I can't remember the exact line.
- 45:55I just like watch this scene again.
- 45:57It's right when he gets to their house in the morning,
- 46:00like before the kitchen table scene where Loretta's mom's like,
- 46:05it's like your mother's OK.
- 46:07And he just like he just very matter of fact, he just stays that like he like
- 46:12doesn't mean anything to him.
- 46:14Yeah. Yeah.
- 46:16Just very matter of fact.
- 46:18It's like, that's good.
- 46:19Doesn't affect me.
- 46:21I still love how much Chrissy loves Ronnie.
- 46:26Oh, absolutely.
- 46:27Chrissy, get me the big knife.
- 46:29I'm going to kill myself.
- 46:31I love that man.
- 46:32And he has no idea.
- 46:34What a weird subplot.
- 46:36Yeah. That never goes anywhere.
- 46:38It's like it exists for what?
- 46:40One scene. Yeah.
- 46:42And it's so you know that people want to fuck him.
- 46:44He's in high demand.
- 46:46Yeah. He's highly charismatic.
- 46:49He's a wolf. Yeah.
- 46:50That there is love that he is not seeing because of his own pain.
- 46:54Yeah. True.
- 46:57Because he's been brooding in that dark hole.
- 47:00Shave a little bread.
- 47:01Hot bread hole.
- 47:02It's hot bread hole.
- 47:04Dungeon. The bread dungeon loves in
- 47:06his bun dungeon.
- 47:11Well, OK.
- 47:12I mean, I feel like there's nothing else really to say.
- 47:14Right. No, these are both terrific.
- 47:16Great movies. They're fucking great.
- 47:18They have their own merits.
- 47:20Yeah, they're.
- 47:22I'm glad we got to go through this adventure
- 47:26to get here to these two films.
- 47:28Yeah, I am so happy with both these films.
- 47:30I love both these.
- 47:31Like, I will continue to watch both these movies for the rest of my life.
- 47:35For most of them in my life.
- 47:37Yep. I could.
- 47:38Yeah, I can recommend any.
- 47:39I can recommend either of these movies to most anyone like who wants to like,
- 47:43you know, give me a written Nicholas Cage recommendation like
- 47:46these are both great.
- 47:48Are we are we saying what we're voting on?
- 47:49Are we there yet?
- 47:51Yeah, I think we're ready for that.
- 47:53I mean, we covered Portland strip clubs versus Seattle strip clubs.
- 47:56We covered Nick being five men in a trench coat.
- 48:00Yeah, three of them.
- 48:01We got to say, yeah, right.
- 48:02Three.
- 48:03Right. You've added one.
- 48:06Yeah, we added one.
- 48:08It happened in.
- 48:09I remember.
- 48:10You know what, Sean?
- 48:12This is two callbacks in a trench coat.
- 48:14It's just personal growth.
- 48:16I'm growing as a person.
- 48:18And as a person, I'm growing a third penis. Yeah.
- 48:21Who happens to be an adult in a trench coat?
- 48:25That's this.
- 48:26This is the worst goose bumps ever.
- 48:28This is the worst goose bumps ever.
- 48:30OK, so Sean, put it on on file.
- 48:32What are you what are you saying?
- 48:34I raise in Arizona.
- 48:36Both these movies are great, but one of them is
- 48:39most struck as a share movie.
- 48:41Raising Arizona is a cage movie.
- 48:43I think that's the best assessment.
- 48:45They're both terrific films, terrific performances
- 48:49and great cast in both of them.
- 48:51Both of them are stacked cast.
- 48:52But absolutely.
- 48:53Raising Arizona is the most Nicholas Cage of the films there.
- 48:58So I agree.
- 48:59Yeah, definitely. Raising Arizona.
- 49:01Yeah, I can't argue with that.
- 49:03I mean, I love Moonstruck.
- 49:04I might even love Moonstruck more.
- 49:06But for this purpose, I think it's got to be raising Arizona.
- 49:09Moonstruck is definitely the mature comedy.
- 49:12And I mean, like when our friend Michael
- 49:17heard the pair up, he was like, oh, Moonstruck all the way for me.
- 49:20And I was like, you know what? That absolutely tracks.
- 49:23Mm hmm. Like, well, and it's a good film.
- 49:26Like I watch it and I absolutely think like, oh, this is a terrific film.
- 49:29It should always be.
- 49:30And so he has to like it.
- 49:32Yeah, that's probably true.
- 49:35Hand talkers. Yeah.
- 49:36Also for me, just the big guy in a little room fight scene will always be.
- 49:42Oh, my God. It's just so good.
- 49:44Oh, good. When he drags his knuckles on the popcorn.
- 49:47I'm just trying to do the like the Captain Kirk like over the back, like.
- 49:52Slay. And that's exactly what it is.
- 49:54He rakes his knuckles across the popcorn ceilings,
- 49:56which as a child, I always looked up at him like, that looks like it hurts.
- 49:59Yeah. And just the scream he makes when he does it.
- 50:03It's I love that movie. It's so good. It's terrific.
- 50:06Also, maybe one of my favorite John Goodman performances.
- 50:10Boy, yeah, I don't know if I could ever.
- 50:13Nailed that like you more of a Fred Flintstone.
- 50:16No, but I'm really loving Righteous Gemstones.
- 50:20Fair. And that is getting his fourth season soon.
- 50:24Yeah, Big Lebowski is so good.
- 50:26He's really good as the ambulance driver and bringing out the dead.
- 50:29Yeah, I really liked
- 50:32Cloverfield Paradox.
- 50:34I think that was, you know, Cloverfield Lane.
- 50:36That's the one he was in.
- 50:37That was a surprisingly good role. Yeah.
- 50:39So yeah, he's he's a very varied.
- 50:43Yeah. Actor like he and Margot Martindale, just like great, great actors.
- 50:48Yeah. Just put them in anything.
- 50:49You're like, yeah, nice.
- 50:51It's like, I'm ready for this.
- 50:53One of my favorite ongoing jokes from Bo Bo Jack Horseman was
- 50:56character actress Margot Martindale.
- 51:00So good.
- 51:02Yeah, no fucking great fucking film, which means we have our first
- 51:07final matchup for
- 51:09we do. Yeah, welcome to the final four skin.
- 51:12Hi, McDonough. You are up against Cameron Poe.
- 51:15Oh, man. I know.
- 51:18I'm going to have to beat myself up over whatever opinion I make on this one.
- 51:22I'm going to hate myself or eliminate either.
- 51:25OK, I do have one.
- 51:27There's one more thing about Raisin, Arizona.
- 51:28I noticed on this watch that
- 51:31I never noticed before, and it makes me crack up
- 51:34is the final scene when they're an old couple.
- 51:37And like you see just in the old couple from behind.
- 51:40That's definitely them in just heavy like in wigs
- 51:43because that old guy has the biggest back muscles.
- 51:48He's still fit.
- 51:52It's like Jack Lillane.
- 51:54It's like I know they could have just gotten they could have just gotten
- 51:57like old people.
- 51:59It's so weird to show their faces.
- 52:01They don't give them makeup.
- 52:02It's just from behind.
- 52:03So it goes like makes it just so weird to just see like
- 52:07yoked old man.
- 52:09Just wheel out fucking 1987 Joe Biden.
- 52:13Yeah, exactly.
- 52:14Still old as fuck.
- 52:17I can't remember.
- 52:19If I told the story last time, you can cut it, but
- 52:21I know we have to keep it for posterity.
- 52:27I don't remember when this happened.
- 52:28I got chicken.
- 52:29I got chicken the other day and I was texting with Nick
- 52:34and we were talking about Star Wars skeleton crew
- 52:37and how I actually liked it despite not really liking child actors
- 52:40or like child protagonists.
- 52:42But I really like these guys.
- 52:43And I was texting with Nick, but also like getting text message
- 52:47from the chicken restaurant I was going to pick up food at.
- 52:49And I thought I was responding to Nick with the text.
- 52:53The stranger things kids are like over 18 now.
- 52:56That means I can fight him, right?
- 52:58And Nick didn't respond.
- 52:59I looked at him.
- 53:00I texted that to the chicken place.
- 53:03What did they think? Did they agree?
- 53:05They did not respond.
- 53:07It's weird that they didn't have opinions on that.
- 53:10No, no, I think you mentioned that
- 53:14during our game the other day.
- 53:16So so the only one who gets to hear this story twice aside from me.
- 53:20Nice. Hi, Nathan.
- 53:22That's right.
- 53:24That one's for the Sparkle buddies.
- 53:26Yeah, speaking of, he's a he's a cage dancer. Yeah.
- 53:28Yeah. So speaking of, thank you for our supporters.
- 53:31And if you're interested in following us on social media,
- 53:33it's cage underscore match underscore pod to our Sparkle buddies.
- 53:37Thank you, Josh, Sean, Josie, Rico, Matt, Adam and Bill.
- 53:40And to our cage dancers, Ira, John, Freeman, Lance, Nathan and Cameron.
- 53:44Yeah. So if you want to hear Sean tell the same story ad nauseum
- 53:48for the rest of your life, just give us five bucks a month.
- 53:50There you go. Just forever.
- 53:52You'll get one story in the mail every week.
- 53:55It'll be the same story every week spoken slightly differently.
- 53:59Sometimes handwritten. Yeah, there you go.
- 54:01That's the benefit of joining and supporting cage.
- 54:05This is a lie. We do not give that much.
- 54:08But anyone who is a cage dancer will and actually Sparkle buddies, too,
- 54:12will be getting some special shit for our finale.
- 54:15So yeah, we've got that at least special shit.
- 54:18You guys should feel fucking lucky. Yeah.
- 54:21I made you some things. Oh, snap.
- 54:23Is it a baby?
- 54:25Are you finally getting rid of some of these babies you've got?
- 54:27You got to divide them.
- 54:29It's like only one of them's a baby.
- 54:31Yeah. All right.
- 54:34Good episode. Yeah. Terrific.
- 54:36We're great. We're pretty good.
- 54:41Oh,
- 54:46bye bye.
- 54:52Or did you want to say anything about the movies
- 54:54Moonstruck or Raising Arizona?
- 54:59No, yeah.
- 55:00Well, this is better than you just moaning at the door, so.
- 55:03I have a squirt bottle.
- 55:05Just open the door and like squirt on the face.
- 55:07Yeah, that would have probably not worked in this situation.
- 55:10Probably made it worse. Yeah.
- 55:16Yeah, OK.
- 55:17Put pepper in the water.
- 55:18That'll that'll won't make that mistake twice.
- 55:21They say put pepper in the water.
- 55:23Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:25OK. Right in the eyes.
- 55:27I won't bother anybody.
- 55:28Just a little homemade mace.
- 55:30That's it's a nice thing.
- 55:34It's training mace.
- 55:35It's exactly you keep it.
- 55:36You keep it pretty loose.
- 55:37You got to build up that immunity to it.
- 55:39So when you get a full blast in the face later, you're just like, come at me.
- 55:42Yeah. So you can fucking protest the pigs downtown.
- 55:45Give me more. Mayday.
- 55:46Yeah, exactly. Get ready.
- 55:48Let's fucking tear it up.
- 55:54God. All right.
- 55:55This was OK.
- 55:56He was 23 when these movies came out, which means he would have been like
- 55:5921, 22 when they were making these things.
- 56:02Weird. Yeah.
- 56:04Pretty wild to think about. Yeah.
- 56:07Yeah. What have we done with our lives?
- 56:10This you've had kids.
- 56:11I've had kids and I've made this podcast. Yeah.
- 56:15Oh, I sorry.
- 56:18I didn't know we were talking about the positive things we've done.
- 56:21Oh, sure. Oh, you want the bad things?
- 56:23Yeah, yeah, clearly this podcast is tops, but I'm still ready
- 56:31to fight a child today.
- 56:32I haven't fought one yet. Box a toddler.
- 56:34Yeah, I believe that was the phrase that came up.
- 56:36I don't remember why.
- 56:37It's a toddler. Who cares?
- 56:40Just the fact that the desire exists inside of me is enough.
