Transcript
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Emily Abadi here coming to you live from
- 0:23Speaker 1: the AG studio. You are listening to five Minute Friday
- 0:26Speaker 1: from Hurdle. I feel as though there are some new listeners,
- 0:30Speaker 1: new Hurdlers in the house, so I want to just
- 0:32Speaker 1: quickly explain what happens here on five Minute Friday and
- 0:35Speaker 1: five Minute Friday. I just talked to you about something
- 0:37Speaker 1: that happened in my week, something that made me think
- 0:39Speaker 1: a little bit, something that I have a takeaway to
- 0:41Speaker 1: offer all of you from. Then I answer a listener
- 0:46Speaker 1: question and that's it. It's a quick segment to kick
- 0:48Speaker 1: off your weekend or you know, whenever you're listening to this,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I digress this week. I had DMS asking me to
- 0:56Speaker 1: talk about it, so I'm going to talk about it.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And that's my trip to eleven Madison Park. Now I
- 1:00Speaker 1: don't know about eleven madisone Park. It's a Michelin Star restaurant,
- 1:04Speaker 1: one of the most famous in New York City. It
- 1:07Speaker 1: is not cheap to go to. I've lived here for
- 1:11Speaker 1: almost ten years on the dot and I've been looking
- 1:13Speaker 1: forward to the quote unquote right moment to go to
- 1:16Speaker 1: a love in Madison Park since moving here. It's been
- 1:18Speaker 1: on my bucket list forever now forever. I thought that
- 1:22Speaker 1: quote unquote right moment would literally be like I got
- 1:25Speaker 1: engaged and then me and this person decided to go
- 1:29Speaker 1: to a love of Madison Park alas I am single.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I actually said the other day that I was in
- 1:35Speaker 1: my mid thirties, and someone on TikTok was like, can.
- 1:37Speaker 2: You slow your role? You are in your early thirties.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So in my early thirties, and I have adopted the
- 1:44Speaker 1: mindset that, like everything I want to do in my life,
- 1:47Speaker 1: why am I waiting to do it until I find
- 1:49Speaker 1: the right partner. So I've talked about traveling before, I've
- 1:52Speaker 1: gone out to eat plenty before, but I had like
- 1:54Speaker 1: this mental block on e love in Medisine Park. Well,
- 1:59Speaker 1: long story short, I booked Love in Madison Park and
- 2:03Speaker 1: I booked Love in Madison Park. When I stopped and
- 2:05Speaker 1: took a look at the last year, I was writing
- 2:08Speaker 1: down some of my wins from twenty twenty one. I
- 2:12Speaker 1: was talking about them with a friend of mine, and
- 2:15Speaker 1: I was like, dude, not saying that you need to
- 2:18Speaker 1: like spend gobs of money to celebrate yourself. There are
- 2:20Speaker 1: plenty of ways that you can celebrate yourself on the
- 2:22Speaker 1: regular that have nothing to do with like an eight
- 2:24Speaker 1: course tasting menu.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But I was like, you know what, efitt, let's do it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Let's go. I am ready.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I need to not let like the way that I
- 2:35Speaker 1: thought that this would be be the thing that prevents
- 2:37Speaker 1: me from doing something that I want to do. And
- 2:40Speaker 1: that holds true in so many things in life, right like,
- 2:42Speaker 1: there are always going to be opportunities or moments when
- 2:47Speaker 1: you can do something, you can take ownership over your circumstance,
- 2:51Speaker 1: you can go try something new, or travel somewhere.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I mean, I could throw out so many examples in
- 2:56Speaker 2: this moment.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But just because it doesn't look like you thought that
- 2:59Speaker 1: it was going to look doesn't mean that you shouldn't
- 3:01Speaker 1: take advantage of that opportunity. Just because something doesn't look
- 3:05Speaker 1: how you thought that it was going to look in
- 3:07Speaker 1: your head at one point or another doesn't mean that
- 3:09Speaker 1: it can't still be great and that you can't take
- 3:12Speaker 1: advantage of an opportunity as it presents itself. And so
- 3:16Speaker 1: I did just that. I went and honestly it was great. Yes,
- 3:18Speaker 1: it was expensive. We did the bar seating. There's the
- 3:22Speaker 1: regular seating, which is like something over three hundred and
- 3:25Speaker 1: fifty dollars, I think, and then the bar seating, which
- 3:27Speaker 1: was under two hundred dollars. Also, bar seating is just
- 3:30Speaker 1: in a bar area. It is not like you're sitting
- 3:33Speaker 1: at a bar counter. And I think the difference is
- 3:35Speaker 1: like four courses maybe we did eight courses and asserts
- 3:40Speaker 1: and drinks and whatnot, and honestly just at the most
- 3:43Speaker 1: lovely time. Yes, the food was delicious. They switched to
- 3:46Speaker 1: a vegan menu this year. They weren't always this way.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I loved it. It was certainly mushroom forward if that's
- 3:53Speaker 1: something that you're into. And I know it doesn't stay
- 3:55Speaker 1: the same all the time, but unbelievable service, absolutely top notch.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Everyone was so attentive, so kind.
- 4:02Speaker 1: I loved a lot of the dishes, like they make
- 4:05Speaker 1: part of it at your table. So I would say
- 4:07Speaker 1: it like, yeah, it's something worth doing, and maybe it's
- 4:10Speaker 1: something that you put aside a little bit of money
- 4:12Speaker 1: for every so often, and then finally you have the
- 4:16Speaker 1: funds and you can.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Make it happen a special treat if you will.
- 4:19Speaker 1: My prompt for you this week, what is something on
- 4:22Speaker 1: your bucket list that you've been waiting to do and
- 4:24Speaker 1: why don't you just do it asap?
- 4:27Speaker 2: What is that one thing on your.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Bucket list that maybe you've been waiting to do, and
- 4:30Speaker 1: why don't you just decide to do it asap? I
- 4:34Speaker 1: guess there's an answer, and then there's a piece of
- 4:35Speaker 1: motivation there, And now a listener question.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Hi, Emily, So I've heard that you need different sneakers
- 4:43Speaker 3: for different types of workouts long runs, speedwork, and strength training.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Wondering if you could tell us what sneakers you're sporting
- 4:51Speaker 3: right now for each type of activity and why?
- 4:54Speaker 2: Great question.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Believe it or not, the best workout choose may not
- 4:57Speaker 1: be your twenty year old running sneakers. Listen, it is
- 5:03Speaker 1: totally normal to only have a few pairs of sneakers,
- 5:06Speaker 1: but you should be leaning into a few different types
- 5:09Speaker 1: of sneakers when it comes to training smart. So wearing
- 5:13Speaker 1: the right shoe for your workout it can be a
- 5:15Speaker 1: total game changer, not just because you'll perform better, but
- 5:18Speaker 1: also because you'll reduce your risk of injury. So let's
- 5:22Speaker 1: break down some of the different types of sneakers that
- 5:24Speaker 1: you should have in your rotation. First of all, you
- 5:26Speaker 1: need something for training, So I'm talking about something that
- 5:28Speaker 1: you'll be wearing in the weight room. That's good for
- 5:31Speaker 1: everything from lifting weights to doing burpies and box jumps.
- 5:35Speaker 2: This shoe is.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Going to have lateral support and it's also going to
- 5:38Speaker 1: have less foam than a traditional running shoe, and that's
- 5:41Speaker 1: because the foam could throw off.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Your balance in the weight room.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Now, that foam important when we're talking about base mileage
- 5:48Speaker 1: and running overall.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Right, you want to make.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Sure that if your foot is repetitively hitting the ground,
- 5:53Speaker 1: which it will be on the run, then you're giving
- 5:55Speaker 1: it something comfortable to do that in the amount of
- 5:59Speaker 1: foam under foot can totally be a personal preference. You
- 6:02Speaker 1: may want to lean into something like a hookah that
- 6:04Speaker 1: has a ton of foam. They're known for creating sneakers
- 6:06Speaker 1: that are great for people with knee problems, or I
- 6:09Speaker 1: mean tons of other brands to throw into the mix
- 6:10Speaker 1: here that are going to have a less cushiony experience
- 6:13Speaker 1: but still provide a really comfortable, cozy experience. Now, when
- 6:18Speaker 1: it comes to picking up the pace and moving very fast,
- 6:21Speaker 1: typically you may not be out there for as long
- 6:23Speaker 1: if you're doing just some quicker intervals. So your sneaker
- 6:27Speaker 1: choice it won't require as much foam, and it may
- 6:29Speaker 1: be lighter than a shoe that you would reach for
- 6:31Speaker 1: if we're talking about running a five k to a marathon. Right,
- 6:36Speaker 1: the most important thing when it comes to choosing your
- 6:39Speaker 1: Goldilock sneaker is that you feel comfortable in it, and
- 6:42Speaker 1: the research shows that. So if you are the kind
- 6:45Speaker 1: of person who may have a specific gait, maybe you pronate,
- 6:48Speaker 1: maybe you supinate, maybe you're neutral. If you try on
- 6:51Speaker 1: a sneaker that doesn't necessarily accommodate quote unquote for that gate,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but that sneaker feels good on. That is more important
- 6:58Speaker 1: than shopping just based on how your foot is supposedly
- 7:01Speaker 1: hitting the ground. Don't just take my word for it,
- 7:04Speaker 1: although you can. I'll link to the research study where
- 7:07Speaker 1: they really dive into the nitty gritty of that. The
- 7:09Speaker 1: last piece to this answer the puzzle here. When am
- 7:12Speaker 1: I running in right now? I'm mostly running in for
- 7:15Speaker 1: fast stuff. The New Balance fresh foam A eighty. I
- 7:19Speaker 1: also love a Nike Vapor Fly next percent, the socony
- 7:22Speaker 1: Anddorphin Pro two is one hundred percent a go to
- 7:25Speaker 1: of mine for regular mileage. I cannot get enough always
- 7:29Speaker 1: of the New Balance ten eighty. I'm also a big
- 7:31Speaker 1: fan of the Nike Pegasus, and last, but not least,
- 7:34Speaker 1: when it comes to training again, I'm throwing Nike into
- 7:37Speaker 1: the mix.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I've been training in their Nike Free met Con.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I feel super supported, super comfortable in that shoe, and
- 7:45Speaker 1: I feel like when I put it on, it means
- 7:47Speaker 1: that I'm ready to go down to the gym and
- 7:49Speaker 1: I mean business. I will link to all of these
- 7:51Speaker 1: sneakers in the show notes, but if you have any
- 7:52Speaker 1: other questions, I'm on the hunt for listener questions. I
- 7:55Speaker 1: want to answer yours in an upcoming episode of Five
- 7:58Speaker 1: Minute Friday, So please please please click on it over
- 8:01Speaker 1: to the show notes, click leave me a voice message,
- 8:04Speaker 1: ask me a question, and I'll answer it asap. That's
- 8:08Speaker 1: it for this week at Hurdle Podcast at Emily and Body,
- 8:11Speaker 1: another hurdle conquered.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Catch you guys next time.
