What Counts as a Rep: The Number You've Been Measuring Wrong
James Dyson built 5,127 prototypes. The first 5,126 didn't work. That's a success rate of two hundredths of one percent.
Frank Sinatra recorded more than a thousand songs and only 209 ever touched a chart. Picasso made around 50,000 works, and well under one percent are considered masterpieces. Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times against 714 home runs, and in each of the five years he led the American League in strikeouts, he also led it in home runs. Same seasons. Same swing.
So here's the question this episode is built on. What if we've been keeping score on the wrong number our whole lives?…
