- 0:21Welcome back to the PTT Music Podcast, and a warm welcome to all our new listeners
- 0:27joining us for the first time!
- 0:28I'm Jordan Sterling, alongside Ava Brooks.
- 0:31This is the space where music is so much more than sound.
- 0:35It's a purposeful force designed to inspire confidence, awaken emotion,
- 0:39strengthen the mind, and move people forward in life.
- 0:43Today, we're exploring an empowering topic: Why We Give Better Advice Than We Take,
- 0:49and how we can use positive behavioral techniques to direct that same wisdom toward
- 0:54ourselves.
- 0:54That's right, Jordan.
- 0:55Psychological researchers call this phenomenon Shalamah's Paradox,
- 1:01also known as Solomon's Paradox, named after King Shalamah,
- 1:06also known as King Solomon, who was celebrated across the ancient world for his
- 1:11extraordinary wisdom in guiding others, yet struggled to apply those same insights
- 1:16when making decisions in his own personal life.
- 1:19When we advise a colleague, a team member, or a friend, our brains naturally operate
- 1:24from a clean, objective perspective.
- 1:27We see the big picture, analyze the variables with complete clarity,
- 1:32and offer empowering solutions without getting bogged down by immediate emotional
- 1:36noise.
- 1:37But when it's our own challenge, our perspective narrows dramatically.
- 1:42That's because our brain perceives personal uncertainty through the lens of ego
- 1:46threat and self defense, which pulls blood flow toward the emotional centers and
- 1:51away from the prefrontal cortex.
- 1:53Exactly.
- 1:54In psychology, this is known as the difference between immersed processing and
- 1:59distanced processing.
- 2:01When you're immersed, you're looking out from inside the storm,
- 2:05where every gust of wind feels overwhelming.
- 2:08But when you advise someone else, you're viewing the landscape from an aerial view.
- 2:13Dr.
- 2:14Ethan Kross at the University of Michigan and Dr.
- 2:17Igor Grossmann at the University of Waterloo, in a 2014 study published in the peer
- 2:23reviewed journal Psychological Science, discovered that wise reasoning,
- 2:28like recognizing the limits of our knowledge, considering multiple perspectives,
- 2:33and seeking constructive compromise, peaks when we create psychological distance.
- 2:39And the breakthrough finding is that we don't have to wait for someone else to ask
- 2:43for our advice to access that aerial view.
- 2:46By intentionally using third person self talk and referring to ourselves by name,
- 2:51we can ask, "What's the most constructive action for Jordan to take right now?"
- 2:56Research led by Dr.
- 2:57Ethan Kross, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology in 2014,
- 3:02showed this helps people stay calmer and perform better under stress.
- 3:06And a 2017 study in the journal Scientific Reports found that it reduces emotional
- 3:11reactivity in the brain within the first second, without requiring extra mental
- 3:16effort.
- 3:17That's how personal pressure becomes high level strategic coaching.
- 3:21It completely changes your cognitive vantage point!
- 3:24Instead of feeling like an actor overwhelmed on stage, you step into the director's
- 3:29chair where you can view every challenge as an opportunity to innovate,
- 3:34adapt, and lead with purpose.
- 3:36You begin treating your own potential with the exact same respect,
- 3:40generosity, and bold conviction that you offer to the people you champion every
- 3:45single day.
- 3:46To anchor this transition and make it a sustainable habit, positive behavioral
- 3:51science points directly to sensory cues.
- 3:54Auditory triggers have an immediate pathway to the nervous system,
- 3:57bypassing overthinking and establishing an instant mental rhythm.
- 4:02That's why we created the PTT Music track "What's Workin'".
- 4:05"What's Workin'" was crafted specifically to serve as a sonic anchor for
- 4:09inspiration, mental clarity, and focus.
- 4:12The arrangement directs your attention away from circular doubts and channels it
- 4:17toward tangible progress.
- 4:19When you pair positive behavioral strategies with a track like "What's Workin'",
- 4:25you provide your mind with an immediate environment that fosters breakthrough
- 4:28thinking and deliberate problem solving.
- 4:31It reminds you to ask what is already functioning, what's gaining traction,
- 4:35and how we can multiply that success.
- 4:38And once that clarity is established, the next essential step in positive behavior
- 4:43is execution.
- 4:44When you want to shift that mental clarity into immediate physical momentum,
- 4:49joy, and confidence, pairing it with our track "Bold" creates an unbeatable energy
- 4:54boost.
- 4:54"Bold" serves as an extraordinary auditory trigger for joy,
- 4:59celebration, and pure creative expression.
- 5:02It helps you step out of analysis and move directly into purposeful action.
- 5:07"Bold" is all about owning your confidence, celebrating your strength,
- 5:11and bringing enthusiastic energy into every room you enter.
- 5:15Combining both "What's Workin'" and "Bold" gives you a complete sonic toolkit for
- 5:21both high focus clarity and high energy celebration!
- 5:25One gives you the grounded wisdom to assess the path, while the other gives you the
- 5:29unwavering courage to walk it without hesitation.
- 5:32We've designed a simple, powerful practice you can use anytime you want to optimize
- 5:37your focus and momentum.
- 5:38We call it the High Focus Name Swap Drill.
- 5:41Step one: play an inspiring track like "What's Workin'" or "Bold" from PTT Music as
- 5:47your grounding anchor.
- 5:48That sound primes your brain for insight and resilience before you even begin
- 5:53processing the challenge.
- 5:54Step two: pause, take a deep breath, and ask yourself a guiding question
- 6:01using your own name, such as "Ava, what's the boldest, most productive
- 6:08step to take next?"
- 6:10Step three: deliver the exact empowering advice you would give to an esteemed
- 6:16colleague or best friend.
- 6:18When you hear your own voice articulating the strategy from that elevated vantage
- 6:23point, hesitation dissolves.
- 6:27This rapid self coaching routine immediately unlocks clarity,
- 6:31grounds your nervous system, and aligns your thoughts with intentional action.
- 6:35By harnessing both positive behavioral science and the transformative power of PTT
- 6:41Music, you maintain full mastery over your focus and drive every day.
- 6:46You become your own most trusted mentor, backed by an unstoppable soundtrack.
- 6:51So as you step forward into your goals today, take a seat in that director's chair.
- 6:56Use "What's Workin'" and "Bold" to energize your atmosphere,
