- 1:27Well, that briefing was basically an SNL skit. Except it wasn't.
- 1:32Jen Psaki on the new press secretary's 14-minute press briefing.
- 1:36Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. Give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 1:42I'm Lindsay Wernick, and today is October 15, 2026.
- 1:47Hi, guys. This is actually going to be the last pod of mine for the week.
- 1:52Topher is taking over the pod again tomorrow on Friday. I love him. He's so freaking funny.
- 2:00So I figured why not hand him the mic again for Friday. So make sure you tune
- 2:04in to tomorrow's pod for a very special Topher's Daily Sarcast.
- 2:11So in real news, as you might know, there's a new White House press secretary,
- 2:17Katie Zachariah, and she's facing a lot of questions about her credentials because
- 2:23she keeps describing herself as a lawyer.
- 2:26So Katie graduated from Pepperdine Law School back in 2011, and she later worked at a law firm in Beijing.
- 2:34But people have been unable to find evidence that she's actually licensed to
- 2:39practice law in any U.S. state.
- 2:42So when Trump was asked which state she passed the bar in, he then just,
- 2:46like, turned to Katie, and then Katie was like, well, when I moved to China,
- 2:53and then the sound of Air Force One starting to turn on just kind of,
- 2:57like, tuned everything out.
- 2:59But the thing is, China's national legal qualification exam is only for Chinese
- 3:06citizens, so she couldn't have taken the Chinese as far as.
- 3:12The White House says that she practiced international transactional law with
- 3:17all of the appropriate credentials, but they have not specified where she was licensed.
- 3:24But then get this.
- 3:26A government watchdog has filed a complaint asking California's state bar to
- 3:31investigate whether she actually misrepresented herself as a lawyer.
- 3:36And this all just happened after her first press briefing lasted just 14 minutes.
- 3:41At which point she then told reporters to ask Trump their questions directly.
- 3:47I mean, I get it. Whenever I get super overwhelmed on a job,
- 3:51I only last 14 minutes on a call before I'm telling them to just ask my boss instead.
- 3:57And also, she has only been on the job for a week now, and this administration
- 4:03has not ever been particularly interested in making things easy for anybody.
- 4:09They also have never made it easy for people trying to verify their resume,
- 4:13but that's a whole other story.
- 4:15And in all people news, everyone who's getting Social Security is getting a bump in their payments.
- 4:223.6% more in 2027, which works out to be about $75 more a month.
- 4:31The government says that they're doing this because of inflation.
- 4:35Inflation did hit 3.7% in September.
- 4:38So even with this giant increase, the old people are still losing money. I mean, aren't we all?
- 4:46This is kind of like your landlord raising your rent, but then giving you $75
- 4:52to go to the grocery store.
- 4:55This new increase will start in January. So all social security people slash
- 5:01retirees can look forward to getting a little extra money or just look forward
- 5:07to being able to afford things.
- 5:09Okay, this is a weird one. The president of Argentina hired a psychic to communicate
- 5:15with his dogs, who died in 2017.
- 5:19So not only is this guy trying to communicate with his dogs,
- 5:23but he's also trying to communicate with his clone dogs.
- 5:27Yeah. So this president, Justin, had one of his dogs cloned.
- 5:33Because obviously when you love your dog so much, you just want to make copies of them.
- 5:38So the psychic also says that she taught this guy how to communicate telepathically with the dogs.
- 5:46So the president of Argentina is just like communicating with his dogs telepathically.
- 5:52And the psychic apparently charges $35 an hour for animal communication just using a photograph.
- 6:00I mean, $35? Sign me up for that therapy.
- 6:04So the White House has a press secretary facing questions about her legal credentials.
- 6:10And Argentina has a president that's stalking to his dead dogs.
- 6:14That is the current state of our world.
- 6:18In Lindsay life, last night I went to this dating event,
- 6:22like this Jewish dating event, and I have to say the most successful part
- 6:29of the event was meeting this super cute girl who I thought would be an absolute
- 6:36perfect match for my ex-boyfriend.
- 6:39And I set them up, and I'm pretty sure that they're going to go out,
- 6:42and I'm genuinely excited for them.
- 6:44So that's where my dating life is,
- 6:48things that i did this week i applied for a new passport because i cannot find
- 6:54my current one it is somewhere in my house but i do not know where it is,
- 7:01but i got a new one so that's a big check mark off the to-do list the next one
- 7:07is when i tried to get this giant mystery yellow stain out of my mattress to
- 7:12submit a new warranty claim,
- 7:15it kind of disappeared when I went to go like spray it with all this stuff so
- 7:20that's good but it's also still there so I'm working on that and trying to get
- 7:24a new mattress because if I get the stain out then I'll literally get a new mattress for free.
- 7:30I audited a Planet Fitness gym because I do mystery shopping sometimes,
- 7:37and I had to go work out anyways, and they were going to pay me a little bit of money.
- 7:42I went to Brooklyn, like deep in Brooklyn, and when I got there,
- 7:46I just kept thinking, I am definitely not on the Upper East Side anymore.
- 7:50And when I was doing the New York Times crossroad puzzle this week,
- 7:54there was a clue that was like what does stephanie tanner say in full house,
- 7:59so i texted jody sweeten to tell her that she was in the new york times cross
- 8:03her puzzle and i felt really cool because she was like texting me back how cool it was,
- 8:09cooking tip of the day add bone broth to your pan when you're like cooking something
- 8:14because it makes it a lot more flavorful and it adds a lot more protein,
