- Alex: Welcome to another edition of the Unsexy Podcast, where we talk about the unsexy side of everything. We are doing check-in for episode five. We all know what we're doing here, kicking it over to Aaron. Aaron: Hello. all right, dude. So first wait. Alex: Wait, I'm gonna say one sixty six. I think it's the Aaron: one sixty six. Okay. That's Alex: average weight of the last week is lower than that, but today was one sixty six this morning. Aaron: Okay. workouts completed this week. Alex: Five li weightlifting exercises. Aaron: How many days did you stick to your macros? Alex: Every day question mark? Why can't Aaron: Seven question marks. Alex: why can't it just have I should have had this ready. I'm sorry, everybody. Aaron: you're fine. Alex: I did last week. Just show me there we go. every day except Saturday I went over a little bit. Aaron: Okay. Okay. average stups. Alex: average steps. this one's easier to get to week. so last week total steps was ninety-eight thousand eight fifty three. So whatever that is, divided by seven. So fourteen thousand Aaron: Ninety-eight thousand eight fifty-three divided by a thousand. Alex: steps. Aaron: Yeah, four wow, damn. So fourteen thousand, not forty-one thousand. okay. So I'm looking at the wrong one. Okay. So let's see here, Alex. Wins and achievements from this past week. Alex: so nervous to do this. Let's see if I can make it happen. I think I would have can you guys see that? Right there? So Aaron: that muscle poppin'? That shoulder their front delt? Yeah, yeah. Alex: I had a pretty hard week. Like I was I was getting like a little bit exhausted through through the week and like not seeing as many records in my heavy app as like I'm accustomed to, you know, starting off and then you're just like, I can Aaron: Yeah. Alex: do way more weight than this. So it's getting a little, especially today, I was just like, man, a little down on myself. And then like I was Aaron: Yeah. Alex: just practicing form in the mirror. I just like, cause like that's I I feel like that's the like the next thing. So I was like, I need to practice my form. And then I was practicing the form and then I like, I haven't seen that muscle. Aaron: You're like, what the hell is this? Alex: I don't know if I've ever seen that muscle on in a long time on my body. So this one, this muscle right here is the win for the week because I was really down on myself. Aaron: Yeah. It's like your front delt. Alex: I'm like, it's working. It's working. Aaron: It is interesting 'cause you do get into like a what is it? It's like it's just the not habit. You just get into like a rhythm and then sometimes you're like, is this even doing anything? I had the same issue with like my quads. Like I'm trying to build up my quads and my chest. And then there was like but I don't know if you can't see it, but there used to this used to be like just flat. And now there's like something there. And so like, okay, it's working. Or whatever. Like it's it's You start to see slowly. I think it's Sam Presti said it best. Trust the process. was that Sam Presti, right? Is Is it yeah. Isn't Sam Presti Alex: I have no idea who it was. Is is Sam Preste. It's the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers guy. Aaron: the the GM for those seventy sixths? You know what? You might be right. You might be right. Alex: Thought he the OK C. I don't know. Trust the process guy. I honestly Sam Sam Hinky. Sam Hinky. Very similar. Hinky Presty. No. Aaron: Sam Hinky. I was way off. Sam Hinky, trust the process. And so I literally tell myself that all the all the time. and so it's just, you know you're doing the right things. You know you're doing the right form. You're eating the right food. We are gonna bump up, I'll get back to you on that. We're gonna bump up your your calorie intake. and yeah, just to make sure that we're still we're still getting. The thing is, like, I I know just from pictures that you're losing fat. That's what it is. Like it's it's not you're not losing muscle. You're having up you're getting enough protein every day. You're working out enough. It's not muscle loss that is happening to cause you to lose that weight. But if we're trying to help with build even more muscle, we'll we'll increase your macros to make sure we can still be in a good place with with building. So that's probably I'm sure that's a concern like I keep dropping weight. What's happening? Alex: I know. And I I love like I just imagine people it's like, it's such a big deal to like to be to be losing weight. I'm like once again, people like have different goals. My goal is not to lose weight. My goal is to get look look like Bain. And actually we've changed it. I think I want to look like the warrior version of Tom Hardy. So just so everybody knows. But like today's workout Aaron: Mm-hmm. So that's why Alex is yeah, go. Alex: Today's workout like kinda like sucked. Not sucked. It was just like a lot of like I'm just gonna go lower rep. Like, I'm not feeling it today. I don't I don't know what it was, but like I still am getting to like the the burn. I'm still getting to the burn, but just like I d I don't know what it was. Just today specifically. Aaron: My dude, my n this is how I was talking about this when you and I were working out. Like my neck and trap on the right side is just very uncomfortable. So that's I I'm luckily I see my coach tomorrow. So just talking to him about that. And it's probably just a lot of it's like, yeah, man, you just gotta not go as heavy or whatever. You don't want to rest that 'cause the more the more you're just like, well, I'm gonna push through this, it just makes it worse and worse and worse to where you can't work you injure yourself permanently or not permanently, like you have to take even more time off. So it actually doesn't hurt as bad today because it it was legs today and then yesterday was what was yesterday? I don't remember. But it was it did not involve my traps. So yeah, that's that's just a and so we can do that with struggles and obstacles. Alex: yeah, that was that like that was gonna be my struggle and obstacle was going to be today's ex like today's exercise, just like it's I still think it was a good exercise. I still lifted quite a bit of weight, but like there was just a I just had to take everything down like five to ten pounds. Aaron: Like an intensity and that I th I d I and I think we talked about it at when we're at the gym. There's something where your your carbs and your protein or whatever just lines up perfectly for a gym session where you're like, Holy shit, I can I'm like I'm doing way more reps or I'm lifting more weight or whatever it is. Like because I read into the same thing for with that you did when I did leg day. Was it Sunday? I think it was Sunday. And it's just like I was not feeling it. Like I was, I was it just I was the same way. But still, I was like making sure I was still pushing myself. But Alex: Doing something. Aaron: there was just something, and it you want to it can also be sleep. I mean, there's a million different reasons why you're just not feeling it that day at the gym. But I well, this is what we say to everybody. The most important part was you were still at the gym, and so you're still doing something that is going. That is pushing you towards your to achieve your goal as opposed to like, I'm not feeling today. I'm just, you I'm just not gonna go to the gym. You know, fuck it. Because that just can become a really bad habit. So I it's funny that you had that happened to you today. That happened to me. It's it was so much on on Sunday. I was just like, and of course it's leg day. So it's like the worst day to feel that way. I'm like, my god. And like my coach has just destroys me on leg day. and so, but I You there has to be something that you're you're thinking about. So for you, I'm sure it's like, you know, your trip going to Hawaii or whatever. For me, it's like I wanna make sure I'm pushing myself as much. So when I do my show, I don't wanna look back and be like, did I do everything that I could do possibly to be as prepared for this? and so that's what motivates me. Like on on Sunday when I just like I don't wanna fucking be here. I was like, I don't I gotta do it. I don't I don't wanna like look back and be like, it's It was that one day that ru not that it would. I'm not saying that that's gonna like ruin everything, but the the takeaway is like still show up, still show up, still do it. And this is what I was working out with Josh today, Josh Cooper, he is you know, he was going it with lower weights, but that was that was fine. Like he still still worked really, really hard. And so that was I think that's a good thing. But for my coach's notes, I can't tell you what I'm gonna say because they're just for me. Increase macros. yeah, and so that's and like I said, it's there's so many things that go into why you just feel that way during during the day. And it happened doesn't happen super often. I don't know if it happens super often to you as far as like going to the gym, but just every once in a while I'll have one of those days where I'm just like, I I'm not feeling it. I don't want to be here. And I'd some some coaches would probably even say like Then just don't work out that day. Or whatever. Even though it's I said don't do that. or just have it be a have it be a light day or or whatever it is. But just do something as opposed to nothing. It's just how I feel. Alex: Yeah, like to today it was more like I it wasn't like I didn't want to go it was the like I was like getting frustrated with the amount of weight I was lifting. I was like I just I just don't have the it was more of like the the protein and carbs weren't lining up with one another. And my my sleep was great. Like sleep's Aaron: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, for whatever reason. Mm-hmm. Alex: been actually been starting to take some magnesium. See how that works? Aaron: good? Good. Alex: It's one of those things where it is like it could also be that I'm waking up at four forty-five in the morning, but I'm like, I fall asleep much faster now. Just like, hmm, do ya? Is is that what it is? Aaron: Yeah. Good old placebos. I do I don't know, dude, because I didn't take it when I was out of town for like a week. I just forgot to bring it and I slept fine. But like I started taking it again when I got home and man I just for whatever reason I s fall asleep faster and I just and it could it could be a placebo, but I don't I don't think it is. I think magnesium's very well studied as far as like its effect on on your sleep. And I just I I just get like a deeper sleep. And I know because I can see how I slept that night. and so that that helps as well. But yeah, there's there's just so many things. But good job. Good job still going and still still getting after it. And yeah, like that's like a great point though, man. Like you're not gonna hit records every fucking time you go to the gym. That's just not how it works. It's just like there's gonna be days that you're not gonna push you're not gonna be able to lift as much weight or do as many reps and it's fine. You're there, that's all that really matters. Like I I like that you went down in weight just to do that. was there anything from our gym session that you could share with anybody that's listening that would be helpful? Alex: Like have someone have someone critique your form. Like I I think I I've become ki I become kind of a snob. Aaron: Yes. Alex: and so it's good to be humbled because like when you when like I'm watching people that's like very obvious, like I've done it like I s it's better that they're there than they're not there, but I see someone like, all right, I'm gonna do I'm gonna do tries today. Aaron: Yeah. Yes. Alex: This is my try exercise. Doing my try exercise. Do it. And then I see like this chick who's doing twenty-five pound maybe it's jealousy. Twenty-five pound shoulder, lateral, what is that called? Lateral shoulder? Lateral litters with twenty-five Aaron: Raises. Lateral raises. Mm-hmm. Alex: pounds. It's like, dude, I don't know a whole lot of people who can do that. And then you see her going like this. Aaron: yeah. Just floppin' around. Yeah. Yes. Alex: I'm like, how's your back feel? Because that's not exactly but having someone critique, because even me, who like I'm seeing people like obviously like you're making huge mistakes and you're not it's good you're here. You could potentially injure yourself though, to be able to engage the actual muscles that you're going for. Cause I think it was the the back one per primarily, the later that yeah, yeah. Aaron: the the rear delt fly? Or the or you're talking about the the straight arm yeah, yeah, yeah, pull down. Yeah. Alex: The straight arm delt fly. Like that like 'cause that one I've a I I've been a little concerned 'cause I just follow what it is and heavy. I'm like, I don't feel and then when I did it with Aaron, it's just like, Okay, there it is. There it is. Like th I just need to set up my body a little bit different. Aaron: The only other thing I wish I would have switched out was the actual handle we were using. I actually like using like that wide it's the lat pull-down handle. Just cause it's just I like it when it's flat and you can go just about shoulder width. Like the other one we had was like a cambered one, so it means there's like a bend in it. I just it for me it's like I feel it even more when I do that. I should have switched it out, but I didn't. and that's again, that's I I I wouldn't even consider my myself an expert in form because that's one of my favorite things is when I go see my coach, I'm like, hey, I'm doing this and I'm I'm like, am I doing this right? And sometimes like you need to lean more this way, or actually the best way to do is if you set yourself up on the, you know, more to this side or more to that side, or don't lean as much. Like, and then it's like, my god, yeah, I do feel this a lot more. It's just nice having someone that can watch you, and then kind of help with little little cues and stuff too. I like I love when I get cues from Like, all right, you're gonna wanna do feel like you're pulling with your elbows or feel like you're doing something. And I'm like, okay. And then it just clicks and then you can, you know you're getting as much out of those those workouts as you can. Yeah, I like that a Alex: Yeah. Aaron: lot. Alex: No. That was probably the best thing from from the work. I was like, okay. 'Cause like the other one was shrugs, like I I b haven't been holding it at the top, giving it a little pinch. So that made I I had to drop weight because essentially I was doing sixty pounds, just going up and down, up and down, up and down, up and down. And like now I'm Aaron: Right. Yeah. Alex: at I think thirty five forty 'cause I have to hold it there. Yeah. Aaron: You just hold it. Yeah. Yeah. Cause you get the most stimulus by like just letting it hold there for a bit and then going down. Yeah, I I like those. And the Kelso ones, man. I was actually mad because I I love doing trap work. I love it. And so it sucked that my trap was fucked up, whatever I I blame it on the crazy pharma carries that I was doing. But that's one of my favorite exercises. That's one of my favorite muscle groups to work out is traps. but yeah, so there you go. There you go, people. But yeah, we'll I'll I'll kind of look at macros and stuff and then I'll get back to you. I actually will not totally forget about doing it. and then increase those. It probably won't be a lot. It'll probably honestly be like an extra two hundred calories. Cause I don't want to overshoot it where it's like, let's add a thousand calories a day, see what happens. it just like incremental. And that again, that's exactly what my coach does with me. I literally, dude, exactly how it's happening with you is how it happened with me because my coach has just been increasing my my macros just little by little to make sure that I'm on the right trajectory, which now I think we're pretty dialed in because I am gaining about a half a pound a week. and it's been it's been good. It's funny because I don't know if I told you this, but I always send him like every other week I send him like just body shots of just like you know not flex, nothing, just and then he looks at it. And he was like, Yeah, it looks like it's going good. You're not super fat. So he's like, You haven't gained Alex: Ha ha ha. Aaron: a ton of fat. You're looking great. I was like, Okay, good. great, okay So it made Alex: Okay. That's funny. That's funny. Aaron: it made me it made me laugh when he told me that. but yeah, that's that's that's the check in. Alex: Sweet. Awesome. Well, everyone, thanks for stopping by. Go be unsexy, and we'll chat with you all in check-in number five next week.
