- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it. She's on the Money. She's on

- 1:11Speaker 3: Miss Jessica Ricci as always is right here with her
- 1:14Speaker 3: money wins straight from the Facebook group.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Miss beck Sayed is going to be sharing.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Her broke tips and we're going to be helping with
- 1:21Speaker 3: the money dilemma, which this week is all about whether
- 1:24Speaker 3: you should buy gold bullion and something that you slid
- 1:27Speaker 3: into our DMS about should you delay a work opportunity
- 1:31Speaker 3: if you think you might have kids. I find there
- 1:35Speaker 3: is such an interesting conversation, one that historically I didn't
- 1:38Speaker 3: think I would be having. But now I'm having these
- 1:40Speaker 3: conversations with my friends about like, oh do I take
- 1:43Speaker 3: a new job on my current job has a really
- 1:45Speaker 3: good matt leave policy. I just never thought we'd be here.
- 1:48Speaker 2: But we are. Anyway, Before we get there, what do
- 1:51Speaker 2: you do this week? Jess? Not much.
- 1:53Speaker 4: I feel like I've moved on to the next holiday.
- 1:55Speaker 4: So now it's Mother's Day, which I know some people
- 1:58Speaker 4: will say probably not a huge I disagree.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Mom's a very importanti for anyone. As well. We've got
- 2:04Speaker 2: a little moonpig giveaway.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Yeah, my god, the moonpeg giveaway is actually elite, like
- 2:08Speaker 3: so good.
- 2:09Speaker 2: So you guys are not taking advantage of this. It
- 2:12Speaker 2: is free. It is a free card.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so if you don't want one for Mother's Day,
- 2:17Speaker 3: that's fine, because I tried the code. It might be
- 2:20Speaker 3: for Mother's Day, but like you can pick any card. Yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 3: so it's I think it's SotM Mum is the coade.
- 2:26Speaker 3: We'll put it in the show notes. But you can
- 2:28Speaker 3: create any card with you meet Vita. You made a
- 2:30Speaker 3: really cute one for duty. It was really sweet.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You can personalize it, can we handr eye on it?
- 2:34Speaker 2: And it ships for free too, which I thought was
- 2:36Speaker 2: really good.
- 2:36Speaker 4: If you're someone whose mum is maybe interstate or you
- 2:39Speaker 4: won't get to.
- 2:39Speaker 2: See there's no catches. Yeah, like it's free.
- 2:42Speaker 3: You can send your mama card to her house for
- 2:44Speaker 3: free through Moonpig, or you could send.
- 2:47Speaker 2: A card to you for a later date.
- 2:50Speaker 3: You could like customize one for your partner or customize
- 2:53Speaker 3: one for a friend and like have it in the bank.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Literally, like there's there's no downside. Money win. We're
- 2:59Speaker 2: getting into an early you can have that one for
- 3:00Speaker 2: free and what about you? Beck week has been really lovely.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Came back from school camp. Camping was so fun.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Is everything I could have dreamed of, all the games,
- 3:13Speaker 5: the excitement, seeing all your friends just in the one
- 3:15Speaker 5: place and you're like camping in like.
- 3:17Speaker 2: A group of ten not camping. It's like, you know dorms.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Is that what you call them? Cabins?
- 3:21Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 3:22Speaker 3: Yeah, fully it's giving. I don't know school camp.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Yes, it's given, and that's exactly what it is. And
- 3:27Speaker 5: it was just Yeah, it was just really wholesome and nice.
- 3:30Speaker 5: And usually I'm like my friends, know, I don't like
- 3:32Speaker 5: a sleepover because I need to scroll for.
- 3:34Speaker 2: A certain amount of time. I just want to be
- 3:36Speaker 2: you can do that. But it was really fun. You
- 3:38Speaker 2: can do that in my house. That's all good to ask.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Like sometimes we will just sit on the couch together
- 3:42Speaker 3: and scroll scroll, it's all.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I love who's also in our team. She calls that
- 3:48Speaker 2: mouse time. That's my mouth time time, and you've got to.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Like mice and I think that that's really cute and
- 3:54Speaker 3: everybody needs a little bit of mouse time.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. What about your how's your week?
- 3:58Speaker 3: My week was good, love luf. It has been mundane
- 4:03Speaker 3: as always. I have had a few speaking events, which
- 4:06Speaker 3: is always really good. And then yeah, just I'm spending
- 4:09Speaker 3: more time in the Zella office at the moment, which
- 4:12Speaker 3: I don't know, I'm loving it. I know that, like
- 4:15Speaker 3: that probably comes as a surprise to you guys, but
- 4:17Speaker 3: like I do spend a fair bit of my week
- 4:19Speaker 3: working from home because I do feel like I'm a
- 4:21Speaker 3: bit more productive. But recently I've gone, oh maybe I'll
- 4:24Speaker 3: spend like an extra day a week in the Zella
- 4:27Speaker 3: offices because like, I have these really big goals for
- 4:30Speaker 3: the business this year, and like obviously if I'm not present,
- 4:33Speaker 3: things aren't gonna happen, and I actually need to put
- 4:36Speaker 3: my money where my mouth is, essentially, So that's been
- 4:39Speaker 3: really good. Every single month, my team pick a word
- 4:43Speaker 3: of the month, so like we will do like a
- 4:46Speaker 3: different word every month, and then all of our activities
- 4:49Speaker 3: or things that are in addition to the work that
- 4:51Speaker 3: we're doing are themed, and I love that. But this
- 4:55Speaker 3: month it's been refocus, and so like we're refocusing on
- 4:59Speaker 3: like what our goal and refocusing on like exactly what
- 5:02Speaker 3: is important, and you know, even just refocusing personal and professional.
- 5:06Speaker 3: So like we've run a workshop, Like we did a
- 5:09Speaker 3: whole morning where I got brunching. We all sat in
- 5:11Speaker 3: the workshop room and we talked about our personal goals
- 5:14Speaker 3: and set some new personal goals and then our professional
- 5:17Speaker 3: goals and what we want to achieve by the end
- 5:19Speaker 3: of the year and what we want to achieve by June.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And just I feel like when you have clarity, you
- 5:24Speaker 3: just feel so clean and fresh. And that's where this
- 5:26Speaker 3: idea of me coming into the office a little bit
- 5:28Speaker 3: more is anyway, Refocus has been the vibe and it's vibing. Yeah.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I like that, Like, yeah, anyway. Would you like to
- 5:36Speaker 2: hear a five star review? Yes? Please?
- 5:38Speaker 3: Oh I love this part, maybe because it strokes my ego.
- 5:41Speaker 3: This one's from Holly, So Holly says, I found Cheese
- 5:45Speaker 3: on the Money and The Broke Generation in July twenty
- 5:48Speaker 3: twenty four. They absolutely changed my life. I've binged every
- 5:52Speaker 3: single episode starting season one from July last year and
- 5:57Speaker 3: finally up to date this week.
- 5:59Speaker 2: That's a lot. We have one episodes. I've now paid
- 6:03Speaker 2: off all my debt.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Which included twenty thousand dollars left to me by another person. Oh,
- 6:10Speaker 3: I have a really healthy emergency fund and we are
- 6:13Speaker 3: on track to buy a house this year.
- 6:15Speaker 2: With the help of the beautiful girls at Zella White.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Victoria has such an amazing and kind way of breaking
- 6:21Speaker 3: down terms and explaining things so they don't seem so complicated.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Jess is so kind and has such a way of
- 6:28Speaker 3: wording things that you feel like you're on her journey
- 6:30Speaker 3: with her. Oh, Beck is so relatable or honest. I
- 6:34Speaker 3: just want to give her a giant hug. Oh, thank
- 6:36Speaker 3: you ladies for the work that you do. You have
- 6:39Speaker 3: changed so many lives, including my own, and I am
- 6:42Speaker 3: so eternally grateful to be able to access She's on
- 6:44Speaker 3: the money and everything that goes along with it.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's so sweet.
- 6:49Speaker 3: I want your giant hug And you know what, Becky
- 6:52Speaker 3: is a giant hugger as I am a giant hugger.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, as you know. So sweet and congratulations. That is
- 6:59Speaker 2: no easy fee. That's so impressive. I love that. I'm
- 7:01Speaker 2: going to go talk to the Zella team now and
- 7:03Speaker 2: be like so holy. And she gave us a really
- 7:05Speaker 2: good review. Can you just tell her I love her? Yeah, totally, seriously,
- 7:09Speaker 2: get us some stweet.
- 7:10Speaker 3: All right, let's get into it a little bit further, Jess,
- 7:13Speaker 3: community money wins.
- 7:14Speaker 4: What have we got alrighty, firstly, I've got one from
- 7:18Speaker 4: Alie who said I'm getting married in September and I
- 7:20Speaker 4: was trying to get a dress for cheap. I found
- 7:22Speaker 4: a brand new twenty five hundred dollars wedding dress with
- 7:24Speaker 4: tags still attached on Marketplace and I only paid seven
- 7:28Speaker 4: hundred and seventy five dollars for it. It was the
- 7:31Speaker 4: exact dress that I wanted. And this is a huge
- 7:33Speaker 4: saving because we'd budgeted two thousand dollars already for a dress,
- 7:37Speaker 4: so she's in the green and I feel like that
- 7:39Speaker 4: never happens with weddings. Congratulations Ali, and congratulations on your
- 7:43Speaker 4: upcoming wedding. Next, I've got a money win from Kerry,
- 7:46Speaker 4: who said she attended the Constant Contact webinar with Victoria
- 7:49Speaker 4: a few weeks ago.
- 7:50Speaker 2: That one was so fun.
- 7:51Speaker 4: It was really fun, and she's just received her free
- 7:54Speaker 4: business Bible book in the mail. She said it's a
- 7:56Speaker 4: money win because I was going to buy it anyway
- 7:58Speaker 4: to help start up her date practice.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But she also got a.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Free Constant Contact trial for customer emailing systems, so she's
- 8:06Speaker 4: very excited. And I was going to say, if anyone
- 8:08Speaker 4: couldn't attend that webinar, there is a replay for all
- 8:10Speaker 4: of our small business owner put it on YouTube.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Put it.
- 8:12Speaker 3: I feel like you're a small business owner, baby, you're busy.
- 8:15Speaker 3: You probably didn't have time. Yeah, but we recorded it,
- 8:18Speaker 3: and Constant Contact to let me put it on the internet,
- 8:20Speaker 3: so that was really not really exciting.
- 8:22Speaker 4: We'll pop a link maybe to that in the show
- 8:23Speaker 4: notes if you want to check it out. Next, I've
- 8:25Speaker 4: got a money win from Kimberly, who said, my husband
- 8:28Speaker 4: gave me a bag of too small clothes to drop
- 8:30Speaker 4: off at the selvo's bin, and I noticed that they
- 8:32Speaker 4: were two old buzzy soccer jerseys in there. I thought
- 8:35Speaker 4: they might be worth something, knowing that they were close
- 8:37Speaker 4: to a decade old, a little vintage moment. So she
- 8:40Speaker 4: put them on eBay for ninety nine cents each and
- 8:42Speaker 4: got about ninety five bucks for that. Sorry what she said,
- 8:45Speaker 4: not bad for something he was going to throw on
- 8:46Speaker 4: the win. Oh, eBay slept on.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I feel like it's not slept on by me. Yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 2: I know. I love eBay.
- 8:53Speaker 4: You can find yourself some bargains, and also you can
- 8:55Speaker 4: sell like I know that. I've seen some people saying
- 8:57Speaker 4: it's hard to sell a marketplace and stuff. I feel
- 9:00Speaker 4: like eBay branded stuff.
- 9:02Speaker 3: And also I like that you can just buy something
- 9:05Speaker 3: on eBay and it's yours. I don't have to message
- 9:08Speaker 3: the seller and say what are your bank details?
- 9:10Speaker 2: Have get cash out? Yeah no, I'm just paying.
- 9:13Speaker 3: With PayPal and I am feeling safe and.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Shining up at your door. We love so true.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Next, I've got money win from Nidia, who said I
- 9:20Speaker 4: called the holiday home owner directly for a property that
- 9:23Speaker 4: she saw listed on Airbnb. She asked, if they're borrowing
- 9:27Speaker 4: is lower and she saved herself eighty bucks over two
- 9:29Speaker 4: nights for a cute place on the beach and it
- 9:31Speaker 4: was dog friendly so too, fur baby could come with her,
- 9:34Speaker 4: so you don't have to spend money on doggy day
- 9:36Speaker 4: care either.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Love always with Google, I feel like a lot of places.
- 9:40Speaker 3: And especially so like my top tip here is if
- 9:44Speaker 3: a property is listed on airbbit I'm sorry airbnbb, like
- 9:47Speaker 3: we're all just out here for a money win. But
- 9:49Speaker 3: if the property is listed on Airbnb and it has
- 9:51Speaker 3: a name, Like if the place has a name and
- 9:53Speaker 3: it's like, you know, the fancy.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Pants Lodge or something, google the name.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Totally, like google what they've called the property, because if
- 10:00Speaker 3: they've gone to that effort, it probably has its own
- 10:02Speaker 3: website or it probably has another listing and you can
- 10:05Speaker 3: go direct.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah I'm clever anyway, So I tried to do that
- 10:08Speaker 2: a little while ago.
- 10:09Speaker 3: It went direct and they were like, oh, yep, to
- 10:12Speaker 3: book the property, we need a deposit of X, but
- 10:14Speaker 3: booking it through Airbnb no deposit. So I was like
- 10:18Speaker 3: cats booking it on Airbnb. Yeah, seriously, so check.
- 10:21Speaker 2: It before you wreck it.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Lastly, this week I got a money in from Amy
- 10:27Speaker 4: who said she bought a cute vintage keyhole dresser at
- 10:30Speaker 4: a vintage store.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Partner's a sweetheart and is picking up on Wednesday for her.
- 10:35Speaker 3: I love you too.
- 10:36Speaker 2: We love a little vintage finish piece. Yeah, I call me, hey,
- 10:40Speaker 2: give me your broke tips.
- 10:41Speaker 5: So actually, just quickly while we're on the AIRBB train.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yeah, my partner, this is kind of do you have
- 10:48Speaker 2: a girlfriend who would have known?
- 10:51Speaker 5: I know I will not shut up about it, but
- 10:55Speaker 5: she wanted to say it.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I need her.
- 10:57Speaker 3: I need beck to talk to my husband ramping up
- 11:00Speaker 3: how obsessed he is with me.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I can do that.
- 11:03Speaker 3: You call Steve and you call James and be like,
- 11:05Speaker 3: here are the expectations I'm setting because I want what jesscott.
- 11:09Speaker 5: I can have an open and closed checklist. Yeah, for
- 11:11Speaker 5: breakfast and nights because of it. And then like you know,
- 11:14Speaker 5: during the day service sort of thing said to you
- 11:17Speaker 5: really do Yeah that is.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Really really.
- 11:21Speaker 3: We probably should just be in those being relationships.
- 11:25Speaker 2: It's kind of nice. I'm gonna say it's kind of nice.
- 11:27Speaker 2: It sounds like a dream.
- 11:28Speaker 3: And this is this is going to maybe even you know,
- 11:31Speaker 3: it's going to annoy us, might annoy you.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Jess like very casually mentioned she want to stay in
- 11:36Speaker 5: Melbourne Place, which is just like.
- 11:37Speaker 2: This hotel and cute.
- 11:39Speaker 5: I've never been there, but I had never heard of it.
- 11:41Speaker 5: But I was like, okay, cool, we I'll like, you know,
- 11:43Speaker 5: surprise it with a little Friday night thing there. But
- 11:45Speaker 5: then I went to the I google it, and I
- 11:48Speaker 5: went to the actual website. But then I thought, hang
- 11:51Speaker 5: on one second, I'm sure I've seen booking dot com,
- 11:53Speaker 5: and like, what if in all those places are being
- 11:55Speaker 5: shot back it's like eighteen percent this one for this
- 11:57Speaker 5: particular day, you're thirty percent back on And I bought
- 12:00Speaker 5: it through there, I got.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Like thirty dollars or something. Yeah, money, we I mean
- 12:04Speaker 2: more than more than three dollars.
- 12:05Speaker 5: I remember that, And so make sure you do that
- 12:06Speaker 5: first before you show through all these other avenues.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I feel like, obviously Jess and I and you we
- 12:13Speaker 3: are all obsessed with shop obsessed, but I feel like
- 12:16Speaker 3: people are forgetting like it was trendy and now it's
- 12:19Speaker 3: just like a part of everyday life. Yeah, forgetting to
- 12:22Speaker 3: use it.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Please don't please yet forget just don't forget you guys.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Like it wasn't trendy, it's actually making you money.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, we love free money.
- 12:30Speaker 5: And even if it's like five cents per transaction, it's
- 12:33Speaker 5: like from little things, big things grow exactly right. And
- 12:37Speaker 5: I'm sorry in evance, I am going to go back
- 12:38Speaker 5: to back with the last.
- 12:40Speaker 2: That's okay, that's okay. What's your second one? No, actually
- 12:43Speaker 2: that wasn't a break tip at all. That was just
- 12:44Speaker 2: a freebie. But the first one comes from.
- 12:46Speaker 3: That wasn't your broke tip, That was not my brick tap.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Oh that's just a hot little hound.
- 12:51Speaker 5: So this first one comes from Sam who says that apparently,
- 12:54Speaker 5: and I haven't physically fact checked this, but if you
- 12:57Speaker 5: buy something from Buddings and it's like under hundred dollars,
- 13:01Speaker 5: then if you go in and it's like say, it's
- 13:03Speaker 5: like you know, general wear and tear, it's just not
- 13:05Speaker 5: working anymore, they will replace it. If it's under one
- 13:08Speaker 5: hundred dollars, they just replace it, no questions asked.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Such a great policy. I heard they do the same
- 13:12Speaker 2: for plants.
- 13:14Speaker 3: That is, if you kill plants, my plants dead, and
- 13:18Speaker 3: they'll be like oh, here have a new one.
- 13:21Speaker 2: That's crazy to me. If you have your receipt.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Crazy, I think that's insane because honestly, if you kill
- 13:26Speaker 3: a plant, it's usually user error.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 3: So I don't know why they're giving you another one,
- 13:31Speaker 3: because you're probably going to kill that too, But it's
- 13:33Speaker 3: nice to know that they are that generous.
- 13:36Speaker 5: That's insane. I had no idea. Wow, I have so
- 13:38Speaker 5: many plants that are going to take back. This next
- 13:41Speaker 5: one comes from Emma, who is maybe a friend of
- 13:46Speaker 5: the pod, who.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Says that there's going to become an ongoing character. I
- 13:50Speaker 2: think so.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I think online offline? Yeah, okay, Emma, not the one
- 13:55Speaker 3: that we used for every other week. Yes, Tips mentioned
- 13:59Speaker 3: that there's a place in Ringwood called Ringwood Repair Cafe. Okay,
- 14:04Speaker 3: you you go GeSe off coffee. But also if your
- 14:06Speaker 3: shoe is broken, they repair it for free.
- 14:09Speaker 2: No they don't.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Yes, I mean like maybe just the best of their ability.
- 14:13Speaker 5: They're probably not like a fool. I don't that's Gene Noddler.
- 14:16Speaker 5: But they repair. That's what I've seen, But I'm sure
- 14:20Speaker 5: like they'll do it.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Is it everything crazy? It's everything? What?
- 14:25Speaker 3: So you just got a broken bracelet? They'll be like, oh,
- 14:28Speaker 3: let me have a crack at that.
- 14:29Speaker 2: They'll probably have a crack at that.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Oh my god, is like going to like a parent's
- 14:32Speaker 3: house for a coffee and then they fix it.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh this is so wholesome.
- 14:36Speaker 3: You know.
- 14:36Speaker 2: It isn't a cue.
- 14:38Speaker 4: How people can bring broken items to be fixed by
- 14:40Speaker 4: expert repairers.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Expert repairers. I love this.
- 14:45Speaker 3: It's giving Men's Shared vibes. So my husband's grandpa is
- 14:50Speaker 3: involved in the Men's Shared and like people in his
- 14:52Speaker 3: local community drop off broken pieces of furniture or whatever
- 14:55Speaker 3: and they fix it for free.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Oh that's so it's the most wholesome. We need community. Yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 2: I'm all for the I.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Was talking about community the other day and the most
- 15:06Speaker 3: important part of community. I feel like we all say, oh,
- 15:09Speaker 3: there's no community anymore. There is if you choose to
- 15:12Speaker 3: get out in it. Like, if you're choosing to actively
- 15:15Speaker 3: get out in the community, you're gonna find it. You
- 15:17Speaker 3: can't just sit in your house and expect community to happen, Like, you've.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Got to go out.
- 15:22Speaker 3: You've got to be present, you've got to be giving.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I think that to create good community, you've got to
- 15:27Speaker 3: be one of those people that gives more than you
- 15:29Speaker 3: expect back.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's there. It's there, It's absolutely there.
- 15:32Speaker 3: And I've only really been tapping into that, i would say,
- 15:36Speaker 3: in the last twelve months since having a baby, because
- 15:40Speaker 3: it's been the first time that I've actively engaged with
- 15:43Speaker 3: like my community center, that I'm actively going to the library,
- 15:48Speaker 3: that I'm actively going out to mother's group like that,
- 15:52Speaker 3: I'm realizing this community thing.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah, I like it here.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I like it here, Like I just anyway,
- 15:58Speaker 3: I think it is very whole. And now I've got
- 16:00Speaker 3: like little group chat and we're.
- 16:02Speaker 2: All like, oh ha, someone got this. I'm looking for X.
- 16:05Speaker 2: We do, We've got you, We've got that in Brunswick.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I don't want to be I don't want to be there.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I don't feel better at it than we are.
- 16:10Speaker 5: A good car network where you just put in what
- 16:13Speaker 5: is key is?
- 16:15Speaker 2: It just feels good. It's so good. And then my
- 16:18Speaker 2: broke tip very swimar to my.
- 16:20Speaker 5: First freebie is that if you The other day, I
- 16:23Speaker 5: was like going to get door Dash and I was like,
- 16:25Speaker 5: I'm sure, I'm sure there's a way I can do
- 16:26Speaker 5: this smart And then I put all these things in
- 16:29Speaker 5: my cart it came to like thirty five dollars.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and I went on shop back.
- 16:33Speaker 5: I bought a DoorDash gift card thirty dollars and.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Just use that.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I got like five bucks. This woman is a gaming
- 16:41Speaker 3: shop back. Yeah, I'll sas to shop back. I love it.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Free money for everyone. All right, let's go to a
- 16:47Speaker 3: really quick break on the flip side. We're going to
- 16:49Speaker 3: be talking about whether you should buy gold bullion or not,
- 16:53Speaker 3: which I think is a very interesting question and something
- 16:56Speaker 3: that you.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Slid into our d MS about.
- 16:58Speaker 3: This week, we're talking about whether you should delay a
- 17:00Speaker 3: work opportunity because you're planning on having kids, so don't
- 17:05Speaker 3: go anywhere.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Welcome back, everybody.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just

- 17:32Speaker 3: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 17:34Speaker 3: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Hi Victoria, I've been following your podcast and reading all
- 17:42Speaker 6: your books. I love all your content. One thing missing
- 17:45Speaker 6: from your books, and wondering if you had any advice
- 17:49Speaker 6: on purchasing gold billions. I hope I pronounced that right. Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 6: I'm just doing some research at the moment, and I'm
- 17:58Speaker 6: playing the share market game, which has been super fun
- 18:02Speaker 6: and educational, just to get my head around dipping my
- 18:06Speaker 6: toe in the market. But I've yeah, just want some
- 18:09Speaker 6: advice on your thoughts on buying gold and storing gold.
- 18:13Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 18:14Speaker 2: By Oh, this is interesting. There's a lot of conversation.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Going on in our community at the moment about bullion,
- 18:19Speaker 3: which I'm sorry to correct you. It's bullion, but it's
- 18:23Speaker 3: because gold prices have increased significantly recently, and you will
- 18:29Speaker 3: often see in times of economic uncertainty, things like gold
- 18:34Speaker 3: increase in value because they are physical assets and they
- 18:37Speaker 3: make people feel comfortable.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Right, So you go, oh, I'll put.
- 18:40Speaker 3: My money in gold because it's I can touch it,
- 18:42Speaker 3: I can taste it, I can see it, I can
- 18:44Speaker 3: hold it. Right, It's like a physical asset, and physical
- 18:46Speaker 3: assets during terms of economic turmoil.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Do well, what are.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Your thoughts before we get there, Jess, have you thought
- 18:53Speaker 3: about gold?
- 18:54Speaker 2: Is that something you want to purchase?
- 18:56Speaker 4: If so, why we did a blog post a few
- 18:58Speaker 4: years on gold.
- 19:00Speaker 2: It's something I've considered.
- 19:01Speaker 4: I know that it's attractive for countries with a weaker dollar,
- 19:05Speaker 4: ycause I'm excited. I'm like, oh girl, you know, yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 4: like the countries where their currency maybe doesn't hold up
- 19:13Speaker 4: or it's quite unstable.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I think pla hedging. That's exactly what I meant. Yep,
- 19:18Speaker 2: that's exactly really where I was going with that.
- 19:22Speaker 4: But yeah, I know, like I know that that's the case.
- 19:23Speaker 3: For me.
- 19:24Speaker 4: It's not something I've invested in. It just seems a
- 19:26Speaker 4: bit tedious because you store it.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I don't know. I was just kind of like, what
- 19:31Speaker 2: the hell is going on?
- 19:33Speaker 4: It's actually really quite very little gold.
- 19:42Speaker 2: It's no like a picture of a bar.
- 19:45Speaker 3: So when people say they're buying gold, they're not just
- 19:48Speaker 3: like investing on the share market. You will go to
- 19:51Speaker 3: a company that issues goal really purchase gold from them,
- 19:55Speaker 3: and more often than not, you'll also pay them a
- 19:57Speaker 3: storage fee to hold onto and look after your gold.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Oh so, like some people might buy a bar of
- 20:03Speaker 3: gold bullion and you can buy them in lots of
- 20:05Speaker 3: different weights, so you could buy like ten grams or
- 20:08Speaker 3: one hundred grams or whatever of gold.
- 20:10Speaker 2: You're literally buying goal resource.
- 20:13Speaker 3: It's giving games night, it's giving I am playing Katan
- 20:17Speaker 3: and it's a resource that I've purchased.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Wow. But you're buying this asset and you can store it.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Some people keep them at home, some people keep them
- 20:24Speaker 3: in a safe some people keep them at a company
- 20:27Speaker 3: that stores gold. You could have a safety deposit box.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Like lots of people just buy this physical asset and
- 20:32Speaker 3: hold it. And the reason that people do it is
- 20:37Speaker 3: gold historically has held up during times of economic turmoil,
- 20:42Speaker 3: as I said before, but it usually holds its value
- 20:45Speaker 3: during cost of living crisises, making it relatively safe during
- 20:50Speaker 3: uncertain times. It's seen as as Jess was saying, a
- 20:53Speaker 3: lot stronger. So in countries where their dollars not as
- 20:57Speaker 3: strong or their government's not as strong, people hold gold
- 21:01Speaker 3: because it's stable and often, like gold will slowly increase
- 21:06Speaker 3: over time, it'll increase and that feels really safe. I
- 21:10Speaker 3: mean a lot of people might be looking at gold
- 21:12Speaker 3: at the moment because it's in the news a little
- 21:14Speaker 3: bit like when an asset increases in price, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 3: the news picks up on it and then like gold's
- 21:20Speaker 3: up and you're like, oh gold, I haven't thought about gold,
- 21:23Speaker 3: but it could play into your diversifications. So it behaves
- 21:27Speaker 3: very differently from shares and property, which can obviously not obviously,
- 21:32Speaker 3: but it can help reduce the overall risk of your
- 21:36Speaker 3: portfolio because it gives a little bit more stability. As
- 21:38Speaker 3: I said before, it's a tangible asset on like an
- 21:41Speaker 3: ETF or a share, like you can hold it like
- 21:43Speaker 3: beg you could go to the place that issues it
- 21:45Speaker 3: and you can.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Hold your gold bart ver you can.
- 21:48Speaker 3: There's no counterparty risk, so gold doesn't actually rely when
- 21:52Speaker 3: I say counterparty risk, like it doesn't rely on a company,
- 21:57Speaker 3: Like it doesn't rely on a company's performance or a
- 22:01Speaker 3: bank's solvency or you know, a CEO getting involved in
- 22:06Speaker 3: a scandal.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's an asset, full stopper. End of story.
- 22:10Speaker 3: And there's as Jess was saying before about the global
- 22:13Speaker 3: thing about you know, currency risk, there's actually global demand
- 22:17Speaker 3: for gold, so like it's recognized and valued all across
- 22:21Speaker 3: the world, and it has been for years, Like what
- 22:23Speaker 3: did pirates trade in gold coins? So it's very easy
- 22:28Speaker 3: to liquidate, i e. Sell if you need to get
- 22:31Speaker 3: the cash, which is.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Good to know.
- 22:33Speaker 3: What does that actually mean though, because a lot of
- 22:35Speaker 3: people are going to go v And this person who
- 22:39Speaker 3: wrote in Fantastic she said, I missed it. You're right,
- 22:42Speaker 3: probably should have touched on it. But it's not an
- 22:45Speaker 3: asset I love. So for me when I wrote my
- 22:48Speaker 3: books and for me when I talk to you guys
- 22:50Speaker 3: about wealth creation, I want growth and long term wealth building.
- 22:56Speaker 3: And if that's your focus and that's your plan, shares
- 23:01Speaker 3: and ETFs might be a better option than gold because.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Shares have income potential.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Shares can pay dividends, giving you regular passive income.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Gold can't do that.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Capital growth, So over time, the share market has historically
- 23:13Speaker 3: delivered better performance than gold. Ownership is one so like
- 23:19Speaker 3: when you buy shares, you're actually buying a very small
- 23:21Speaker 3: portion of a business, not just an asset that you
- 23:24Speaker 3: hold liquidity. So yes, you can sell your gold, but
- 23:28Speaker 3: it does take a lot longer to sell your gold,
- 23:32Speaker 3: and there are higher transaction costs on selling gold because
- 23:35Speaker 3: brokers get involved. Then you just hitting dispose of your
- 23:39Speaker 3: assets and then compound returns. So like reinvested dividends, create
- 23:44Speaker 3: more market growth, create a bigger, stronger portfolio. So if
- 23:48Speaker 3: we compared like gold and shares, like the purpose for me,
- 23:54Speaker 3: gold stores value and that's why Jess's point of like,
- 23:58Speaker 3: you know, currency is essentially going all right, well when
- 24:02Speaker 3: the market is not doing well, at least I have
- 24:04Speaker 3: gold and it's holding its value. Whereas shares, I would
- 24:07Speaker 3: say their purpose is wealth creation returns. Historically, gold doesn't
- 24:12Speaker 3: have very high returns, doesn't give you any income, low
- 24:16Speaker 3: returns in terms of growth. Shares high long term returns
- 24:19Speaker 3: and also you get some dividends. Risk Obviously gold is
- 24:22Speaker 3: lower risk. Shares are higher risk, but with higher risk
- 24:25Speaker 3: comes higher reward. I talked about liquidity and then growth
- 24:29Speaker 3: in portfolio, so that if we talk about your portfolio,
- 24:32Speaker 3: the reason you would hold gold is because you want
- 24:35Speaker 3: it to be a little bit more defensive, a little
- 24:37Speaker 3: bit more solid. You want the returns to be consistent,
- 24:41Speaker 3: and that is usually aligned with a more conservative investor
- 24:45Speaker 3: or an investor at the end of their investing life cycle.
- 24:49Speaker 3: On the flip side, shares and like our podcast, I
- 24:52Speaker 3: would say resonates with younger women, women who are working
- 24:56Speaker 3: full time. You're probably looking for growth, looking to generate
- 25:01Speaker 3: wealth over the long term and put yourself in a
- 25:04Speaker 3: better financial position. So gold can I would say, protect
- 25:08Speaker 3: your wealth, so it can protect your wealth over a
- 25:11Speaker 3: long period of time. I would say, on the flip side,
- 25:14Speaker 3: shares build your wealth. So are you trying to protect
- 25:16Speaker 3: your wealth or are you trying to build your wealth?
- 25:18Speaker 3: Is the question here, And a balanced portfolio actually might
- 25:21Speaker 3: include both. But you need to look at your goals
- 25:24Speaker 3: and then decide on which one makes the most sense
- 25:28Speaker 3: for you. So for me, it's very here there, they're
- 25:32Speaker 3: very very different assets. Gold, I would say, is incredibly conservative.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Shares your about growth.
- 25:38Speaker 4: What I'm here is I could buy myself some gold
- 25:39Speaker 4: jewelry and consider it an investment.
- 25:42Speaker 3: You do have to remember, though, when you buy gold,
- 25:44Speaker 3: you're often buying twenty four carrot gold. It's pure, and
- 25:47Speaker 3: when you buy like a bracelet or whatever, it might
- 25:50Speaker 3: be ten carrot or fourteen carrot and it's mixed. So yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 3: you can buy gold, just buy really good gold.
- 25:58Speaker 2: This is crazy, Cavely, It's the thing I like a cartoon. Yes,
- 26:02Speaker 2: it really does.
- 26:04Speaker 3: So you're saying that my braceletter that I'm wearing right
- 26:07Speaker 3: now is just going to increase in value, but only
- 26:09Speaker 3: if I melt it down, and we don't take into
- 26:11Speaker 3: consideration that the brand of it absolutely overpriced it.
- 26:15Speaker 2: You can melt it. You can melt it and completely reusable. Wow.
- 26:20Speaker 3: So if if you did have a twenty four carrot,
- 26:23Speaker 3: even twenty four carrot, it can be melted down and separated.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Oh my, yeah, this is so cool.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Maybe O blog post.
- 26:31Speaker 4: I didn't go into all of that, and it's a
- 26:32Speaker 4: couple of years old, but it might be be a
- 26:34Speaker 4: helpful for people to child.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Actually hasn't changed, so that blog post is still valid.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Would you like to talk about this week's DM guys?
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yes, I know you're ready. I know you're ready because
- 26:44Speaker 2: I live for gossip. All right, Hi, she's on the
- 26:47Speaker 2: Money Crew.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I have a money dilemma which has been weighing really
- 26:51Speaker 3: heavily on me over the last few weeks. I've recently
- 26:54Speaker 3: been offered a training position at work that I've been
- 26:56Speaker 3: hoping for ever since I started my degree. It's my
- 26:59Speaker 3: dream job and to get offered training so early in
- 27:02Speaker 3: my career is an absolute blessing. However, I've also recently
- 27:06Speaker 3: gotten married and we've been talking about trying to start
- 27:09Speaker 3: a family soon. I feel like I'm now stuck between
- 27:11Speaker 3: making a choice between my career and my family. I
- 27:14Speaker 3: don't know if I should be taking the training position,
- 27:17Speaker 3: which would be two years full time for the qualification
- 27:20Speaker 3: and risk getting pregnant in the middle of it, or
- 27:23Speaker 3: if I should decline and risk missing out on the opportunity.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I've been having so.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Much uncertainty and anxiety around something that I've wanted so badly.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I really, really.
- 27:35Speaker 5: Really think that you should be following your career dreams
- 27:40Speaker 5: and goals because I want everyone to watch Have you
- 27:45Speaker 5: guys heard of Night Bitch?
- 27:47Speaker 2: No, it's with any recommendation you make.
- 27:50Speaker 5: I mean, okay, I think that our listener should watch
- 27:52Speaker 5: this before because I really do think. I just don't
- 27:56Speaker 5: want you to get into a place where you're, like,
- 27:58Speaker 5: I don't know, like you've had child. You are happy, obviously,
- 28:01Speaker 5: like you know, you love your children and they bring
- 28:03Speaker 5: you so much. But I just fear that like a
- 28:06Speaker 5: lot of people do kind of like lose themselves once
- 28:09Speaker 5: they have a child, and they're like their identity and
- 28:11Speaker 5: like it's so much more work, Like it's so much
- 28:13Speaker 5: more consuming than we ever realize.
- 28:15Speaker 2: And so I feel like, first.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Of all, having that conversation with your partner whoever you're
- 28:19Speaker 5: having a child with. And some people have a child
- 28:21Speaker 5: on their own, and some people do it with multiple people.
- 28:24Speaker 5: But I think that if you have a conversation, you
- 28:26Speaker 5: really really are sure of all the expectations, You're like
- 28:29Speaker 5: thinking about every aspect of every single day. That is
- 28:33Speaker 5: really important because you don't want to get to a
- 28:34Speaker 5: place where like you're having a child with someone and
- 28:37Speaker 5: then you realize that the load is really not very equal,
- 28:41Speaker 5: and you just buy default, go into this stay at
- 28:43Speaker 5: home parenting role, and then you buy default, give up
- 28:46Speaker 5: all your hopes and dreams, and then before you know it,
- 28:48Speaker 5: ten years have passed and you're like people are like, hey,
- 28:51Speaker 5: what do you do for work? And you're like, oh,
- 28:52Speaker 5: I used to be and then you're like, no, I
- 28:55Speaker 5: was that. I was a lawyer. Now I'm a mum.
- 29:00Speaker 5: It's great as well, but you just don't want to
- 29:01Speaker 5: lose yourself. You don't want lose your identity. Keep following
- 29:03Speaker 5: your dreams. If something happens, if you're feel pregnant, you
- 29:07Speaker 5: must have that conversation about distributing the load. So that
- 29:11Speaker 5: you don't lose yourself, your partner doesn't lose themselves. Everyone's happy.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Just don't give it up, don't give up your dreams.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Watch Night Bitch's make.
- 29:19Speaker 2: It take away, right, I'm going to watch Night Bitch? Please? Yes?
- 29:22Speaker 2: What are your thoughts on this?
- 29:23Speaker 4: I think you need to decide, like do you want
- 29:26Speaker 4: to have a kid in the next two years or not?
- 29:27Speaker 4: Like you've kind of said, oh, I've gotten married, we're
- 29:29Speaker 4: thinking about it. And I know that you can't always plan,
- 29:32Speaker 4: like it's not a perfect world, but like you can
- 29:35Speaker 4: definitely go is the plan to have a kid in
- 29:37Speaker 4: the next two years or not? Because I think this
- 29:40Speaker 4: is more than just taking on a job, like you're
- 29:42Speaker 4: taking on a level of education, and to me, it
- 29:46Speaker 4: feels a little bit wasteful almost of both your time
- 29:50Speaker 4: and the resources of the company that I'm assuming would
- 29:52Speaker 4: be paying for you to do this training, whatever that is,
- 29:56Speaker 4: if you were to get halfway through, for example, and
- 29:59Speaker 4: then drop out. With that being said, I would also
- 30:02Speaker 4: look into, well, is it something I could put on pause?
- 30:05Speaker 4: It's hard because we don't know what the training is,
- 30:07Speaker 4: but like, could I do if say I got halfway
- 30:09Speaker 4: through my training and felt pregnant and when on maternity.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Lead, why can't I come back to it?
- 30:12Speaker 4: Can I pick the training back up? But I know
- 30:14Speaker 4: that sometimes with these things, like you, there's like a
- 30:17Speaker 4: time limit on it, So I would just look into
- 30:19Speaker 4: that to know your options.
- 30:21Speaker 2: But I think that, like, if you're.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Going to have a child, that's probably something that you
- 30:24Speaker 4: do need to be planning for regardless, So it might
- 30:27Speaker 4: be helpful for you to solidify what those plans ideally
- 30:31Speaker 4: look like, because we also know that getting pregnant is
- 30:33Speaker 4: not linear and the best laid plans can go awry. Yeah,
- 30:37Speaker 4: Like I wouldn't say that it's really our place to
- 30:40Speaker 4: tell you yes or no. I think it's really something
- 30:42Speaker 4: you've got to look at within yourself because I, as
- 30:45Speaker 4: you said back, I don't want you to put your
- 30:48Speaker 4: dream job on hold, And just because you're going to
- 30:51Speaker 4: have a child doesn't mean that you're not going to
- 30:53Speaker 4: then want to come back to that dream career. And
- 30:55Speaker 4: it would be unfortunate to give up an opportunity.
- 30:57Speaker 2: But I think you just need to weigh up what
- 30:59Speaker 2: you want.
- 31:00Speaker 4: It's a classic thing you can have everything you want,
- 31:02Speaker 4: but not at once. Yeah, And I do think like
- 31:05Speaker 4: as much as I know that we say all the time,
- 31:08Speaker 4: like your workplace wouldn't hesitate to replace you, da da da.
- 31:12Speaker 4: I do think like there's some level of consideration ode
- 31:15Speaker 4: to them if they're going to be footing the bill
- 31:18Speaker 4: for you to do whatever this training is and putting
- 31:20Speaker 4: that time and that resourcing into you. If you know
- 31:24Speaker 4: for a fact that in twelve months, if you can
- 31:26Speaker 4: be pregnant, you would want to be pregnant.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Does that make sense? Yeah, that makes sense. Can I
- 31:30Speaker 2: bring the mood down? Yeah?
- 31:33Speaker 3: So I look at this and I just go do
- 31:35Speaker 3: the course, do it, sign up for it, you get
- 31:37Speaker 3: it done. I would have spent a lot of time
- 31:40Speaker 3: in limbo if I had put my life on hold
- 31:44Speaker 3: and my career on hold because I wanted to have
- 31:48Speaker 3: a baby. And when I said I want to bring
- 31:50Speaker 3: the mood down. I found pregnancy hard. But I found
- 31:56Speaker 3: it extra hard because I had two pregnancies before I
- 31:58Speaker 3: had Harvey that I lot lost.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And one thing that made.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Everything, I think a lot easier was having my career,
- 32:07Speaker 3: having things in the background that I was looking forward to,
- 32:10Speaker 3: being able to get out of bed and go to
- 32:12Speaker 3: work and still do the podcast and work on the
- 32:14Speaker 3: online courses, and none of that was on hold because
- 32:17Speaker 3: of Victoria's planning on having a baby at some point
- 32:20Speaker 3: and so therefore we need to pull back.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I think at that point in.
- 32:24Speaker 3: Time, I was so appreciative that, like we weren't like
- 32:29Speaker 3: planning to take time off because you just never know
- 32:32Speaker 3: how long that's going to take. Like you could get
- 32:35Speaker 3: pregnant first, go slay.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 32:37Speaker 3: I don't think you owe anything to your employer. I
- 32:40Speaker 3: would be really upset if I found that someone in
- 32:43Speaker 3: my team was prioritizing my business over their ability to
- 32:46Speaker 3: have a baby, because that is so hard. Like for
- 32:50Speaker 3: some people they start the journey bam, pregnant real quick, congrats.
- 32:54Speaker 3: For some it takes literal years. And the idea that
- 32:57Speaker 3: you would have then put your career on hold visits
- 33:01Speaker 3: thing that wasn't eventuating, and your.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Whole life becomes paused. Like, don't do that to yourself.
- 33:07Speaker 3: I would prefer you to have to go to your
- 33:09Speaker 3: employer because it's none of their business how you got pregnant.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Was it an accident?
- 33:14Speaker 3: Like people get pregnant by accident all the time, Like
- 33:17Speaker 3: we don't have to say, yeah, actually I took up
- 33:20Speaker 3: your training, and then my husband and I actively started
- 33:23Speaker 3: trying to conceive a baby so that I could pull
- 33:26Speaker 3: out of this training that you put me in.
- 33:27Speaker 2: We're not going to put it that way. You go,
- 33:29Speaker 2: oh my goodness, what a blessing found out I was pregnant.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Let's deal with that then, because I can almost guarantee
- 33:36Speaker 3: this can be put on pause. Like, if you're planning
- 33:39Speaker 3: next year trying for a baby, You've got twelve months
- 33:42Speaker 3: in this training. It then takes nine months to make
- 33:45Speaker 3: a baby. You're most of the way there. That's like,
- 33:49Speaker 3: can you continue the training without full time employment?
- 33:52Speaker 2: Maybe it's something you could polish off on matt leave.
- 33:54Speaker 3: I'm not saying that everyone could do that, because Matt
- 33:56Speaker 3: Lee for everybody is very different, but like, we can work.
- 33:59Speaker 2: It out, and I'm very much.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Look, let's just go with the flow kind of girly,
- 34:05Speaker 3: because pregnancy is not something that is, as you were saying,
- 34:09Speaker 3: linear or easy, and you can't guarantee that, yeah, I'm
- 34:12Speaker 3: going to have this super straightforward pregnancy. Do you know what,
- 34:15Speaker 3: you might get to the end of the training. Let's
- 34:17Speaker 3: pretend it takes you a bit to get pregnant. You've
- 34:19Speaker 3: agreed to the training you do, all the training, you have,
- 34:22Speaker 3: your dream job, you have your baby, everything's looking up Millhouse.
- 34:27Speaker 3: You then go, I never want to return to work again.
- 34:30Speaker 3: I love being a stay at home mum. Wow, what
- 34:33Speaker 3: an opportunity that you have the choice, like, I just
- 34:36Speaker 3: want you to have choice. And by putting it on
- 34:39Speaker 3: hold or on ice because you're so worried about impacting
- 34:43Speaker 3: other people, is not putting yourself first. Yeah, put yourself first,
- 34:46Speaker 3: be a little bit, and it's not selfish, but feel selfish.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I don't mind.
- 34:50Speaker 3: I think it is fantastic what everyone else think. Everyone
- 34:53Speaker 3: else had a lot of different opinions, So we first
- 34:56Speaker 3: asked you guys a few questions. We said, what will
- 34:58Speaker 3: you do if you were our community member. Forty one
- 35:01Speaker 3: percent of you said, take the dream role jobs, do
- 35:03Speaker 3: not wait, Five percent said hold off for your family plans,
- 35:07Speaker 3: and fifty two percent said try to do both and
- 35:10Speaker 3: see what happens. Two percent of you said too hard
- 35:13Speaker 3: to decide. We then asked, should women factor in potential
- 35:17Speaker 3: pregnancy when accepting a high commitment role, even if it's
- 35:21Speaker 3: just a maybe. Thirty five percent said yeah, it's being realistic.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Fifty six percent said no, it shouldn't be a factor,
- 35:28Speaker 3: and nine percent said, I've made decisions based on this before.
- 35:32Speaker 3: I'd love that, And I like that I've made decisions
- 35:35Speaker 3: based on this before because you can really only talk
- 35:37Speaker 3: about it when you're in it, Like parenting, like as
- 35:40Speaker 3: a parent is so much different to what you think
- 35:42Speaker 3: it's going to be. You go, okay, cool, Like how
- 35:44Speaker 3: am I going to You're thinking so much about the juggle?
- 35:46Speaker 3: You're like, how am I going to do this? Like
- 35:48Speaker 3: what will we do for daycare? What will we do
- 35:50Speaker 3: for child reading? How will I return to my career?
- 35:53Speaker 3: I promise you it flows a lot easier than you
- 35:56Speaker 3: think it's going to, don't get me wrong, Like there
- 35:58Speaker 3: is the juggle, but like your lifestyle changes so dramatically
- 36:03Speaker 3: that like it just becomes part of the new normal.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Like I'm not thinking about my career and all of
- 36:08Speaker 3: my girlfriends, and like the girls that I know in
- 36:10Speaker 3: Mothers Group, we're not like, oh, it's linear and you
- 36:14Speaker 3: have to stop your career here to start here. Like
- 36:17Speaker 3: I think we need to just be talking about this
- 36:19Speaker 3: and working out how we can continue and how we
- 36:21Speaker 3: can keep having these conversations, because it's putting you in
- 36:24Speaker 3: the best possible position. So we said, what's your two cents?
- 36:28Speaker 3: First person said, I fact it in pregnancy. If considering
- 36:31Speaker 3: changing jobs because I needed security and stability, that's a
- 36:35Speaker 3: different story than taking training though. Yeah, and like that
- 36:37Speaker 3: goes back to what I was saying before. I've got
- 36:39Speaker 3: girlfriends who are like, do I move because I want
- 36:41Speaker 3: another baby? But like a new maternity leave policy would
- 36:44Speaker 3: mean I have to be at a location for a
- 36:46Speaker 3: certain amount of time before I get access to the
- 36:49Speaker 3: maternity leave, Like do I want to wait that long
- 36:51Speaker 3: for a baby? Do I want to have a baby?
- 36:53Speaker 3: And state this company like it's a juggle in that case,
- 36:57Speaker 3: we are actually thinking about it. The next person and
- 37:00Speaker 3: said it sucks we have to choose between career and pregnancy.
- 37:03Speaker 4: Yeah, when you were talking about it before, I was
- 37:05Speaker 4: just thinking I hadn't when I gave my response, like
- 37:08Speaker 4: I really hadn't even considered, which is very naive, like
- 37:10Speaker 4: the gendered lens and the fact that.
- 37:12Speaker 2: My husband didn't have to do this.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Well, Yeah, and I mean it depends as well on
- 37:16Speaker 4: whether or not our listener, we don't know if they
- 37:18Speaker 4: plan on being the primary caregiver, what that looks like. Yeah,
- 37:21Speaker 4: that would all factor in, but it just, yeah, it
- 37:24Speaker 4: didn't even come into my brain. And I was like,
- 37:25Speaker 4: how awful that that is something that weighs so heavily
- 37:28Speaker 4: on a lot of us.
- 37:29Speaker 3: So that plays into the next response. Someone said, there's
- 37:33Speaker 3: actually no right or wrong answer as long as the
- 37:35Speaker 3: choice is yours. I agree, yes, which I couldn't agree more.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Someone else said, you can always leave a job if
- 37:43Speaker 3: it doesn't work out, but you don't want fear to
- 37:45Speaker 3: hold you back. Next person said starting a family shouldn't
- 37:49Speaker 3: compromise your career goals.
- 37:50Speaker 2: There's always a way forward.
- 37:52Speaker 3: I agree with that, Like, I just think, work out
- 37:55Speaker 3: your career, dive headfirst into that because do you know
- 37:58Speaker 3: what some people like me, I got really sick. Yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 3: for the first twelve weeks of three friggin' pregnancies.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Be for real? That should be illegal.
- 38:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I shouldn't have to go through the first
- 38:10Speaker 3: trimester three times. I had h I got diagnosed. I'm
- 38:14Speaker 3: not just saying I had HG, but I got diagnosed
- 38:16Speaker 3: with HG, which is a severe form of morning sickness. Right,
- 38:20Speaker 3: I didn't know I was going to get that. Like
- 38:22Speaker 3: I thought that I was going to glide through and
- 38:25Speaker 3: at maybe eight months we'd wind down.
- 38:27Speaker 2: No, like my whole entire life went into a spin.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Someone else said, take the role, work for twelve months,
- 38:34Speaker 3: and then start trying in the second year. Another person said,
- 38:37Speaker 3: I gave up opportunities for potential pregnancy and then had
- 38:40Speaker 3: fertility issues.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Just take the job. Yeah, And another person said, and
- 38:45Speaker 2: this plays into Jess and is a perfect way to
- 38:47Speaker 2: wrap it.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Men wouldn't worry about this, so why are we yeah,
- 38:52Speaker 3: which is so true. They'd be like, why are we
- 38:54Speaker 3: talking about this? Just take the job today and we'll
- 38:56Speaker 3: work it out later.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Do it? Do it? Just do it all right?
- 38:59Speaker 3: Well, it has been lovely my friends, have a beautiful weekend.
- 39:03Speaker 3: And on the flip side, I will see you on Monday,
- 39:05Speaker 3: bright and early for a money doughy.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Gorgeous bie guys.
