- 0:32Welcome back to the Realtor Who Wines podcast.
- 0:35I'm Roshelle, and I'm so happy to have you here as well as my guest today, Alisha Cheers to you.
- 0:40Thank you for being on.
- 0:44I am excited to hear some of the things that, we were actually just having pre conversation before the, the podcast even started.
- 0:52I was like, oh, we should talk about that.
- 0:53Ooh, I like this.
- 0:54Had it recording I know the whole time.
- 0:57So first things first for you.
- 0:59Go ahead and give an introduction to everybody of who you are and your business and all things.
- 1:03Yeah. The elevator pitch. Yes, please.
- 1:07The thing I'm always like, wait, how do I say this?
- 1:09What do I say?
- 1:10My name is Alicia.
- 1:11Yeah, yeah, I know I nailed that part.
- 1:14Perfect. My name is Alisha Carlson.
- 1:16I am a fitness, nutrition and lifestyle coach for women.
- 1:22Potentially more specifically, millennial moms.
- 1:26Yeah.
- 1:26But really looking at health and wellness through a non diet lens, my heartbeat is really helping women heal their relationship to food, exercise and their bodies.
- 1:40Not necessarily even just so that they can reach like a specific target weight or a target physique.
- 1:45But because I really think that women are incredibly talented, incredibly powerful, and we have so much to offer the world.
- 1:54But we need good health.
- 1:56We need to be able to get mental and emotional place to do that.
- 2:00And, so that's, I think, really where I see myself kind of partnering with the women that I work with.
- 2:05Yeah.
- 2:06I talk a little bit about your journey because you've been throughout the health world and multiple different areas like to the extreme of like, bodybuilding and like show like being in shows and things like that.
- 2:18And then also the opposite end of that scale, right?
- 2:21Yeah.
- 2:22I say I've gone from couch potato to figure competitor.
- 2:25Yeah.
- 2:25So really did kind of go from not really caring about what I ate, trying the little diets on magazines, you know, six weeks to your best bikini body.
- 2:37And I would get, like, 3 or 4 days into it and be like, I'm starving.
- 2:42Where are my abs?
- 2:43And then this doesn't work and just kind of quit.
- 2:46Yeah.
- 2:46And then in 2007, that really was where it kind of changed for me.
- 2:51So that was the year that we got married, my now husband, but he was my fiance.
- 2:57Then, did some silly little, like, Biggest Loser challenge at work.
- 3:02I was like, oh, I'll do it with you.
- 3:03And so we started running and I always say that was kind of my gateway into the fitness space.
- 3:09And so I went on, I ran five KS, ten KS, I did one and only one half marathon before pivoting and going more into the weight training space.
- 3:20Did some figure competitions.
- 3:22Actually just had my one year anniversary from my first Spartan Race, so, yeah, I've done kind of a lot of different things, and I'm thankful for all of it.
- 3:32I think running the thing that was so powerful about that was that was, space where, my limiting beliefs started to kind of break down because I was like, I'm not a runner, I'm not a runner.
- 3:45And then I just started running and I was like, okay, let's try A5K, I think I can get it done.
- 3:50And do you know, 24 minutes did that.
- 3:53And so it was like, okay, there's something to be said for that.
- 3:56Yeah, I am had that same mindset.
- 3:59Well, I was telling you this, in like 2012, my mom ran a half marathon and my mom didn't play sports growing up.
- 4:06And I was like an athlete growing up.
- 4:07I even did college sports.
- 4:09And so when my mom did that, I was not in good health at that time as far as like my weight and things.
- 4:14And I was just like, well, if my mom can run a half marathon, surely I can do it.
- 4:18So I started training with her and I had that mindset, like, I have to run the whole thing or it doesn't count.
- 4:22And really, that's not the truth.
- 4:24Like I one time the following year ran with her and she does run walk and I did.
- 4:31I was like, well, I want to stay with her and like have this experience with her.
- 4:34So I did the run walking with her and I was like, this is delightful.
- 4:37My body is not tired.
- 4:38I actually ran faster when I was running.
- 4:41And so it's just so funny, I think like to your point where, like, I'm not a runner, I think everyone is at different stages and there's different fitness levels for everybody.
- 4:49Like the run walking, you're still covering the mileage.
- 4:51Yeah. So like, who cares how fast you do it.
- 4:54Yeah.
- 4:54And I think for me I mean I am pretty competitive.
- 4:57So you know it was like, okay, I want to see if I can get this time.
- 5:02And I would always set like time goals for myself.
- 5:05And I think that there's something powerful about that, about setting a goal and accomplishing it.
- 5:11However, I've also learned so much about myself and my fitness journey in the years of doing different things that, there is also so much value in learning to enjoy the journey, enjoy the process.
- 5:24And it's not always about getting to the finish line.
- 5:28In this case, like literally.
- 5:30But whatever that proverbial finish line is for you, it's not always about getting there the fastest, because if you're anything like me, you probably set a goal.
- 5:38You reach the goal.
- 5:40You don't give yourself time to even celebrate that.
- 5:43And you've already have another goal.
- 5:45So then you kind of get into this perpetual cycle of never feeling like you're accomplishing anything or never getting where you want to go.
- 5:54Well, and that's why so many people quit, like when they start a new journey or something different because they feel like they aren't getting any movement.
- 6:01Or like you said, you're like, I've been eating lettuce or for days where my abs.
- 6:05Yeah. Why do I not have a six pack? Yeah.
- 6:07Where is my bikini bod?
- 6:09Yeah, a magazine might want a hamburger, but yeah, that happens.
- 6:14Right? You're like, what is the point?
- 6:16What is the point?
- 6:17Talk about how you went to into the competitive world and like, what did you learn from that?
- 6:23And like, what drove you to go from the couch all the way to that?
- 6:27So I did my half marathon, I think it was back in 2010, and I was kind of toying with the idea of doing a full marathon.
- 6:35I was like, okay, like that seems like the natural next progression.
- 6:39I honestly cannot remember what triggered me to actually kind of stop running and move more into strength training.
- 6:49As I'm saying that that might not be entirely true in the sense that looking back, I think a lot of that motivation for losing weight was ultimately driven by my need to feel like I was enough or worthy.
- 7:05And, I, you know, I was the smallest I had ever been, like, size wise, weight wise, running.
- 7:12But I still was like, I don't like, love what I see in the mirror.
- 7:15Sure.
- 7:16So I thought if I had muscles and I looked like, you know, the fitness models on the magazines, then I would, you know, be in a better place.
- 7:24And, you know, I learned a lot of great things discipline, setting a goal and being really focused for that goal for that specific time.
- 7:32And I think that it really did trigger a lot of disordered eating, a lot of body dysmorphia, probably heightened body image issues that were already there.
- 7:43And, you know, so it was that it, you know, it's kind of crazy thinking about it now.
- 7:50I'm like, gosh, to even get on a stage, like in a bikini in front of like, you don't know, like, yeah.
- 7:56Does that why do we do that to ourselves? Yeah.
- 7:58But yeah, it was, it was fun.
- 8:01But it, there was also like a lot of unhealthy side effects that came with that.
- 8:08And then was there anything that made you be like, well, this is too much.
- 8:12I don't want to be competitive.
- 8:14Like, that's not part of my lifestyle.
- 8:16Obviously.
- 8:16I'm not like putting down anybody that's in competitive sports or CrossFit or anything like that.
- 8:21But obviously something for you triggered where you stopped competing.
- 8:25What was that turning point for you where you're like, okay, I don't want to go like this much.
- 8:29I want to be working out this hardcore all the time.
- 8:31I wanted to go pro in the figure, world.
- 8:36But it was wreaking havoc on my marriage and my church because it's, it's a very time consuming sport, if I can be honest.
- 8:44And I know that, you know, I don't mean to say that to be offensive to anybody that's in the sport and that really loves it.
- 8:50For me, it was very selfish.
- 8:52It was a lot of time dedicated to my workouts to like meal prepping and having everything weighed exactly.
- 9:00So, and it was just not I was like, okay.
- 9:05I feel like if I continued to pursue a pro card in this, it's going to be at the sacrifice of my family and my marriage.
- 9:14And I decided that that was more important for me.
- 9:17Sure.
- 9:18And then so what what happened in that part of your journey?
- 9:21So once you're like, okay, I'm not going to do the competitiveness now.
- 9:24What's next for me?
- 9:25What did you do then?
- 9:26I, I mean, I continued strength training.
- 9:28I continued eating like super clean.
- 9:31Is that when you became a personal trainer?
- 9:34No. I, gosh, trying to think back.
- 9:38So I was a hairstylist right out of high school, and then I went to get my degree in exercise science and nutrition in 2011.
- 9:46I competed in 2012.
- 9:48Probably pursued that until 2013.
- 9:51And then I backed away from that.
- 9:53I was just kind of on my own personal fitness journey, finishing my degree.
- 9:59And then when I got out, I started coaching.
- 10:02So it was very like what I would say, traditional, here's your meal plan, here's a workout program, like, just do it and get results.
- 10:11And I saw my clients failing with that because if it were that easy, we could literally just Google something and just do it right.
- 10:20You get the results.
- 10:21But, I mean, speaking from a woman's perspective, there's so many other things that we're juggling.
- 10:27It's like, yeah, ideally I would do like 5 to 6 workouts every single day at the exact same time, and I would eat perfectly.
- 10:36But it got really hard for me to see my clients beating themselves up for.
- 10:41I'm doing everything right, and I'm not seeing the results.
- 10:44And I got to a place myself and like 2017, 2018 where it just felt like I was constantly fighting with my body of like trying to keep my weight at a specific size.
- 10:55And I remember very distinctly standing in my kitchen, taking before pictures and feeling like a failure.
- 11:02And I'm like, I have a degree in this.
- 11:03I've been on stage, I've lost weight, I've kept it off for ten years.
- 11:07Like, why am I starting over in some degree?
- 11:11Sure.
- 11:11And for me, that was where I felt like the Holy Spirit was like, it's because you've been dieting this whole time and calling it a lifestyle.
- 11:18And that was really what changed the trajectory of how I coached and how I started to look at nutrition and fitness and fat loss and all of those things.
- 11:26So talk a little bit about what you do now because you are a coach now.
- 11:30You do group coaching, one on one coaching.
- 11:33You have a podcast.
- 11:34Let everybody know a little bit on what you do now to help people.
- 11:39Yeah.
- 11:40So I mean, my heart is still the same of like wanting to help women feel confident and comfortable and meet their health goals.
- 11:47And it is there is like the nutrition coaching aspect of it, there is the fitness coaching aspect of it, but so much of it is about the mindset.
- 11:57It's about like rewiring your thinking about food.
- 12:01It's, really taking a look at like your habits and your patterns and like what triggers you to, you know, for me, it was like binging on huge bowls of cereal after I put my kids to bed, because that was the first time all day that I felt like I got to have some new time, or some time where I wasn't needed.
- 12:19And so when we really start to look at like, what's the upstream behavior?
- 12:24That's the root that's kind of causing all of these habits or this cascade of behaviors that is leading to, you know, you're not feeding yourself.
- 12:33You're not eating all day.
- 12:34So then you walk down like 2 or 3 plates of dinner and you treat your body is like just trying to get all of the calories in at night.
- 12:42And then you start all over again, you know, maybe you're just running on caffeine.
- 12:46And so it's just really looking at like what's the root, what's kind of driving the behaviors.
- 12:52From more of like a tactical point.
- 12:55And then really just like we gotta change what's going on up here because 100%, you know, your subconscious drives like 90 to 95% of your behaviors.
- 13:05If we don't change the stories that are on repeat up here, you're just going to keep creating more of what you have.
- 13:12Yeah.
- 13:12One of my coaches, I've said like, not just to me, but like in general, like either change your goals or change your behavior, but you have to change one.
- 13:19So if you're not going to change your behavior, then you can't attain the goals that you're trying to set right.
- 13:23And that's the same thing.
- 13:26Like you really have to come to terms with, like I have to make some sort of change or my result will never be different.
- 13:32And I think there is like a level of sacrifice.
- 13:35And, I think that we're kind of in a place right now at least, like in some of the health landscape.
- 13:43And maybe we use health and like air quotes chair.
- 13:46It sort of is like the health at every size or the anti diet movement where you know, people want a specific goal but they don't want to have to sacrifice for it.
- 13:58And it's like, yeah, I just don't really think that's how it works.
- 14:01But you know, how do we do that without burning ourselves out without, completely like beating ourselves up?
- 14:09And I think that's an interesting dance.
- 14:11And it really, it comes down to like, why are you pursuing the goal in the first place?
- 14:16And if you're pursuing it from a place of not feeling like you're enough, not feeling like you're worthy, then no matter what your body looks like, you're taking that with you.
- 14:26And I'm like, living proof of that.
- 14:28I was I maintained like 11% body fat for months after competing, and I still would look at myself in the mirror and be like, oh, I could be a little tighter here, or this could be a little bit better.
- 14:41You know, it's like once you kind of work on, I think, healing that relationship that you have to yourself, it makes you so powerful and unstoppable.
- 14:52Because now I'm not pursuing that goal because I need to feel like I'm worthy.
- 14:57I need to feel like I'm enough so it doesn't matter how long it takes me.
- 15:01Like I already am experiencing what I want to feel.
- 15:04I just get to go and have fun pursuing the goal.
- 15:07Yeah. What kind of advice would you give?
- 15:09I think, like you said, you gear even unintentionally sometimes towards the millennial mom and being one of those sometimes we do have that guilt of like, well, I could go to the gym or I could get more laundry done, or I could get this done, or I could get that done, like going to the gym or choosing that workout time feels guilty.
- 15:30Like, because I'm choosing that for me.
- 15:32What kind of advice would you give moms like me that's like, I know I need to work out, I know I need it, but I'm choosing to do x, y, z to serve my family or my clients or my business instead.
- 15:43I kind of feel like a jerk because I have never felt guilty about taking that time for myself and to the point that I was like, oh my gosh, am I a bad mom because I don't feel guilty about this?
- 15:57I just remember like early on when my kids were little, it was like I was already working out like that was already a part of my life.
- 16:06And, I just never thought like, oh, I should stop doing it now.
- 16:10When I was working out a ton and taking my kids to the gym and they were hanging out in the daycare.
- 16:18Definitely.
- 16:19Like looking back there was some guilt there.
- 16:21But, I think what I would say is that recently I've gotten to have some cool conversations with my kids, and even my husband wrote me a note, and he just said, you know, I'm so like, thank you for being an example of what it looks like to take care of yourself.
- 16:40Because I see that because of my decision way back then to prioritize health and, and things like that, and what I was cooking, what I was eating, how I was taking care of myself like it literally.
- 16:53My husband is healthier because of it.
- 16:55My kids are healthier because of it.
- 16:58And so I think you're going to probably feel guilty either way.
- 17:03I think, you know, you're going to look back on your life, maybe, and feel guilt that you didn't do something different.
- 17:10Yeah. I think it's okay to feel guilty.
- 17:13I think we want to try to avoid that.
- 17:15But, really, maybe defining for yourself what it looks like to be a good mom, what it looks like to be a good partner or spouse.
- 17:24For me, that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm the only one doing the laundry or the cooking, right?
- 17:30It's like me being a good mom is me having a relationship and connecting with my kids, right?
- 17:36It's making sure that they have what they need.
- 17:39But me being a good mom also looks like me setting an example and being a role model.
- 17:45Same me being a good wife like I used to think.
- 17:47I have to have the house all clean and I have to have all this stuff done before Rob gets home.
- 17:52And I'm like, at the end of the day, like, that's not what I think, right?
- 17:57It is like it really is a more relational thing.
- 18:00I do still take care of stuff at the house.
- 18:03But I also have given my kids chores and responsibilities early on.
- 18:08And. Yeah, to contribute. Yeah.
- 18:10You know, it's kind of evening that load a little bit and delegating.
- 18:15So I think that you probably will feel guilty for a little while.
- 18:19I think it's okay to feel guilty, but I think you have to also zoom out and think like, what is the example and the role model, the, the modeling that you want to be for your kids.
- 18:32And unfortunately, I think a lot of what I see with the women that I work with initially is they're modeling by default what was modeled for them by their mom or their grandmas.
- 18:45And those women were not necessarily living the life that they wanted to be living.
- 18:50Well. And or it's different.
- 18:51So like my grandma, for example, was a stay at home mom, and so her role was different.
- 18:58She wasn't at a job.
- 19:00Not that it was easier by any means, but she wasn't at a job like 40 to 50 hours a week and then doing all the household stuff.
- 19:06A lot of women today work full time and then still do the household stuff full time.
- 19:11And so that's why I think a lot of us struggle with when do I choose me time?
- 19:16Because I'm wearing all these hats I recently, you'll be very excited for me to hear this, but I just signed Rylan up for swimming on Purpose during a workout class and it's at the same gym, so it's like now I don't feel guilty because she'll be at workout class because I do feel bad sometimes I'm like, we're apart all day.
- 19:33And then to be like, okay, now I'm going to go do this because I, I do a lot of showings at night too.
- 19:37So I have to work a lot during the week, in the evenings and weekends.
- 19:41I already am like, she's at school all day, and then she comes home and I'm like, I got go do my showing.
- 19:46So I was like, at least this way she's getting to do something fun.
- 19:49And I for sure I'm going to get to work.
- 19:51Since two work and two workouts in a week while she's at swimming.
- 19:56So I was like, well, that's a win, right?
- 19:58Because then she's excited for swimming and then she doesn't care what I'm doing while she's swimming.
- 20:01It's not like she wants me in there watching the whole time, so it's probably better for her if I'm not, because then I'm not like, I want, I want pay attention.
- 20:09You know, like the whole time I have to bite my tongue sometimes when I'm watching, like, if I'm observing a practice, I'm just like, oh my God, it's so hard for me because like, especially now, well, I coach her a lot too.
- 20:23But when I haven't coached, sometimes some of the coaches don't want to offend moms or parents.
- 20:29And I'm like, if my kid's not being good, coach her, punish her, put her, take, take her out, make her run lines.
- 20:36I told her that during volleyball season I was like, you are so lucky I'm not your coach this year.
- 20:40You and I ran so many lines tonight because she wasn't listening and I was like, that's so disrespectful.
- 20:45So anyways, not to derail on that, but yeah, same for swimming.
- 20:48Like if it's better for her, if I take it really good for y'all's relationship that you won't be a step back.
- 20:55I'm not a hover mom.
- 20:56It's good in multiple arenas.
- 20:58Yeah, and I think that's a great way to go about that.
- 21:01So that's, that's kind of like habit stacking or sort of integrating it into your life.
- 21:08I think another thing, that reminds me of this book that I listened to a couple of years ago called I Know How She Does It.
- 21:16And my big takeaway from that was really just defining for yourself what it looks like to have quality time with your family.
- 21:24Yeah, I think we all kind of have this idea that if I'm not at home in the evenings and we're not all sitting around the dinner table, that I'm somehow failing, but it's like if you are, you know, are you able to do breakfast in the morning pretty consistently?
- 21:37Then what if that's your family time, right?
- 21:39You know, for a lot of us, like we're with our families Friday night, all Saturday, all Sunday.
- 21:45So when you count the amount of hours in there, you actually have a lot of opportunity to connect.
- 21:51And so I think for me, it I kind of had to shift a little bit.
- 21:56And it's not necessarily about how much time we're spending together but quality time.
- 22:00Yeah.
- 22:01And even in the car, you know, those ten, 15, 20 minutes take to practice picking up from practice running an errand or, you know, going picking up from school.
- 22:11It's like those are all touch points that get to count as quality time.
- 22:15And so I think it's a lot of it is just really deciding for yourself what you want that to look like.
- 22:21And, you know, how can I integrate, you know, things that are going to take care of me but are also going to be really impactful for your family?
- 22:30Setting that example, you can do family workout type things as well, and just getting everybody involved.
- 22:38I think you just kind of have to be flexible and, just be open to trying different things until you find something that clicks and works for you.
- 22:47What kind of advice do you give, for with like, meal prepping or like how to like you said, it's not just a diet mentality.
- 22:55It really is like changing a mindset around food and what you're doing.
- 22:58Clearly we're having wine, which I didn't even mention today.
- 23:01We're drinking Stoller Pinot noir. Rosé.
- 23:04Stoller in Dayton, Oregon, not too far from here.
- 23:08Have you been there before?
- 23:09I don't think I have, but I feel like I just bought this bottle of wine.
- 23:12Maybe when I hosted the women to women.
- 23:15Yeah, well, they are they are in major grocery stores.
- 23:19They are one of the larger wineries in the area, but very delicious.
- 23:22And they have a great tasting room.
- 23:24If anybody's ever in the area, I definitely recommend checking them out.
- 23:27But clearly we're having wine today, so it's not like you're being like, no, I know this, know that.
- 23:33Like how do you decide like for yourself?
- 23:35And then also what kind of advice do you give when like having certain things like wine or snacks or something that's not healthy air quotes.
- 23:44Again, healthy I think, if you can kind of look at food in a similar way that you might money, right?
- 23:52It's like if we just didn't pay any attention to our finances and we were just swiped our debit card, like all month long, that could cause some problems.
- 24:02It'd be cool if we could do that.
- 24:03Yeah. I mean, that's what I'm working for. Some day.
- 24:05I swipe that debit card all month long and not even have to think about how much money is in the account.
- 24:12But for most of us, if we did that, we probably wouldn't get results that we want, right.
- 24:17And it's an interesting thing I think when we start talking about food and nutrition and especially tracking, and I don't think that everybody needs to track forever.
- 24:28But I think that if you have like a specific weight loss or fat loss goal or physique goal, doing some sort of tracking, at least for a little while until you can kind of get the hang of it is not a bad idea.
- 24:39If anything, just to have some awareness about what you're eating, how much you're eating.
- 24:44If you have a history of eating disorder, that's probably not going to work for you.
- 24:48So you have to kind of know yourself and know, what is going to work.
- 24:52But even something as simple as like using your hand as, like a measuring tool.
- 24:56So your palm for a protein serving size a couple, a handful is your carb.
- 25:02Unfortunately, the thumb is the fat.
- 25:06I'm always wishing my thumb was like twice as big when I'm eating peanut butter.
- 25:13And then, you know, a fistful of veggies.
- 25:14So you can't even just start kind of by eyeballing it.
- 25:17Sure.
- 25:18In terms of nutrition, I try to focus on, protein and fiber.
- 25:23So like veggies at most meals are, a pretty simple rule of thumb, like a great place to start is about one gram of protein per pound of your target body weight.
- 25:33Whether that's losing or maintaining, that's a pretty good place to kind of start.
- 25:40And so I'm huge on that.
- 25:42It's like, we don't need to get crazy with all the nuanced stuff, but let's just focus on increasing our protein and our veggie intake, and then we can kind of dial in nutrition as needed from that.
- 25:54And then, you know, I live by the motto and I coach my clients on this too.
- 25:58You have to really think about, trying to reach your goal in a way that you could see living your life forever.
- 26:06Because what usually happens is people will do really extreme things until they reach the goal.
- 26:12But it was so extreme and there was a lot of deprivation, a lot of restriction.
- 26:17And so then they end up rebounding.
- 26:19If you think about it like a rubber band, the harder you pull the rubber band back, the fruit, you know, the further it's going to go in the opposite direction.
- 26:26It's the same thing with nutrition and exercise.
- 26:29So, I'm a big fan of taking it slow, probably slower than you want to go, but really focusing on some key cornerstone habits.
- 26:38And then you can dial in and get a little bit more nuanced as you go.
- 26:42Are there any apps or anything that you recommend or that you've used in the past for tracking your food or, trying to like, log what you're eating so you're, like, aware of what you're doing?
- 26:52I currently am using I think it's called the Carbon app.
- 26:57And I like to go in and I just kind of preplan my day that way, especially like with, the protein, just to make sure that I'm getting my protein in.
- 27:07I like to just go in.
- 27:09Okay, I know this is what I have.
- 27:10I punch it all in and there you go.
- 27:13But I think there's so many different tracking apps yet again, it's not something you have to do forever, but, you know, it might not be a bad idea to just do it for a couple days until you kind of get just, yeah, like a foundation or a true understanding, because sometimes we might not realize, oh yeah, gosh, I did have candy four times yesterday because you grab like a handful here and there or whatever, but if you're tracking everything, then you're really paying attention to what you're having.
- 27:39Yeah.
- 27:39And it's I mean, again, it's like your finances, if you are monitoring your finances in any way, shape or form, this is really similar to that.
- 27:49And I actually find that there are so many similarities and people's behaviors around money and food and so it's kind of is like, you know, if we can work on one area and the others can, I typically also kind of get better as well.
- 28:04So, you know, if there's a lot of overeating, there might be also a lot of overspending.
- 28:09Oh for sure. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 28:12So you do have a podcast too.
- 28:15Is this the kind of content that's on your podcast?
- 28:17Share a little bit about your podcast, how you help people that way.
- 28:20Yeah.
- 28:21My podcast is called The Strong Her Way.
- 28:24And, you know, I'm having interviews and doing conversations like this with other people, experts in different areas.
- 28:31And then this is the kind of stuff that I talk about all the time.
- 28:35So it's the nutrition.
- 28:36It's the fitness stuff, especially geared towards women.
- 28:39Unfortunately, for a really long time, women were highly underrepresented in, research.
- 28:46And so a lot of the research is geared towards their findings and men.
- 28:51And the more that they're starting to research women and how specific things like fasting and even trainings, depending on the time of the month for you and kind of changing that up.
- 29:03We're finding that it's not always like whatever your spouse or the man in your life can do.
- 29:09You can also do and get the same results, which in a way is a sigh of relief because so many women do.
- 29:15I know, do you all know?
- 29:17Maybe you were one of them where you and your husband start the same exact diet, the same exact workout program?
- 29:24He gets shredded in like three weeks.
- 29:26And so.
- 29:26And I actually like gaining weight.
- 29:29I remember once in my 20s, my ex-husband, we, I was doing like P90x.
- 29:34I was like very like strict on my diet.
- 29:37I was doing like Herbalife, P90x, all the things, getting all the sleep, drinking all the water.
- 29:42The only thing he did was give up pizza.
- 29:44And it wasn't even like he was having pizza every day.
- 29:46He just gave up pizza.
- 29:47That's it.
- 29:48And he lost 10 pounds like that.
- 29:50And I was gaining weight and stuff, and I was like, this isn't fair.
- 29:53I was like, getting so frustrated because I was working so hard and he just gave up one food and then like, lost weight, like it was no big deal.
- 30:00Well, and that's the trap.
- 30:01Like, that's the trap is like, I'm doing everything.
- 30:04How come I'm not getting results?
- 30:05Yeah, well, maybe you don't actually need to be doing everything or to that extreme degree. So yeah, we talk about that.
- 30:13We talk about mindset stuff.
- 30:15Yeah.
- 30:16And does an episode come out every week like or where can people find you? Yep.
- 30:21I am publishing a new episode.
- 30:23Everyone's Day.
- 30:25It's on all major podcast platforms.
- 30:29I also am on Instagram at Alisha Carlson Underscore or the strong her way there and then for coaching or people wanting to meet with you one on one.
- 30:41I know you have a group coaching coming up right soon.
- 30:44Yes. So I will be officially launching the first round of that in June.
- 30:49But I am also kind of doing, bringing people into that, as kind of an early bird as well.
- 30:58But if you want to learn more about any of my coaching, I would just go to Alisha carlson.com, and you can fill out the client form and request more information there.
- 31:06Yeah. Well, and she coaches on everything.
- 31:09It's not just like here's your workout.
- 31:10A lot of it is mindset looking at your own lifestyle and like evaluating like what makes sense for you your body, your goals.
- 31:18So I just want to make sure people know it's not just like, oh, here's your workout, go do this or here's your meal plan, go do this.
- 31:24It's really more of a tailored one on one.
- 31:26What you need and also where your mindset too.
- 31:29Yeah, the mindset piece is huge.
- 31:31So really, what's driving the behaviors again, going back to the subconscious.
- 31:37Inside the group coaching in your portal, we have kind of two tracks.
- 31:42So there's one that's geared more towards perimenopause and then one that's geared more towards, working with your monthly cycle.
- 31:49So there are some differences there in training recommendations, just kind of depending on where you're at with that.
- 31:57Fortunately, like a lot of the nutrition and stuff, it kind of gets to stay the same.
- 32:04It's interesting that the more experts I talk to in different arenas, it all comes back to the same thing the basic strength training, your sleep, increasing your non exercise.
- 32:16So walking or just moving around a little bit more protein, fiber or.
- 32:21Yeah.
- 32:21Because even for us like the amount of steps that you're supposed to take a day you're getting, it varies from person to person.
- 32:27Like a lot of people like I get 10,000 steps in, but I know others that are like, oh, if I get 6000 and I lose a ton of weight.
- 32:33Yeah.
- 32:34And that's where, you know, I think we want kind of a cookie cutter.
- 32:37If you do this, then you get this.
- 32:39And I just it's it's not quite that way.
- 32:44So unfortunately more on like those foundational habits.
- 32:47And I think that's where a little bit of like releasing the outcome as well helps when you're not like, I have to lose X amount by this time.
- 32:56It's like, okay, let's just work on the habits and what we're what we're building long term.
- 33:02And releasing the outcome.
- 33:04And just trust your body that you'll end up where you're supposed to be.
- 33:07Yeah. Well, thank you so much for being on today.
- 33:10I really appreciate it.
- 33:11Again, we will tag all of Alicia's info, her podcast, her website, on the YouTube video of this podcast and any of the audio.
- 33:19Thanks for tuning and cheers to you and cheers to everybody listening.
- 33:23Have a great day!
