- 1:17Hey listeners, Jeff, and for welcome back to this week's episode of Mortgage Marketing
- 1:40Radio.
- 1:41So glad you're here.
- 1:43We're talking about this topic.
- 1:46If you were with us on the last episode, this topic of the One Thing.
- 1:52And I'm pulling some excerpts and some learnings from the investment that I've made into the
- 1:57One Thing book, which is written by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.
- 2:02It's the surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results.
- 2:06And Gary Keller, of course, is one of the co-founders of Keller Williams, largely wildly
- 2:12successful real estate brokerage across the country.
- 2:15Some of you are probably working with Keller Williams agents.
- 2:17Maybe you're a listening agent and you work at Keller Williams.
- 2:20If so, hey, let me know.
- 2:21Leave us a little comment on the blog here below.
- 2:24But we're picking it up this week with part two of getting started with time blocking.
- 2:31And in the last episode I talked about getting started very simply by blocking out little
- 2:35chunks of time on your calendar, 20, 30 minutes at a time to focus on your One Thing.
- 2:40And today what I want to do is expand a little bit more on this whole concept of the One
- 2:45Thing.
- 2:46And I know it's a hard thing for people to, you know, kind of really take on and sometimes
- 2:50we struggle with, well, you know, I can't just do One Thing, right?
- 2:54I've got like 73 different things to do.
- 2:57And I agree that we, of course, have more than one thing to do in a day, right?
- 3:05We all do.
- 3:06That's just simply life.
- 3:08But how many times did you come to the end of a day and feel like you just didn't get
- 3:12enough done or more importantly, you didn't get what you wanted to get done?
- 3:18You ever feel like that?
- 3:20Well, if so, I want you to set aside your preconceived notions.
- 3:23I want you to, you know, your mind is like a parachute.
- 3:26It only works when it's open, right?
- 3:30And so it starts from, so, so why even focus on One Thing, okay?
- 3:34Well, let's talk about real quickly a concept in the book, which is called the Six
- 3:37Lies Between You and Success, okay?
- 3:40And I'm not going to dive in deep here.
- 3:41We'll do that another, another session.
- 3:43But I just want to give you a highlight on the six different lies that are keeping you
- 3:46from what you really want.
- 3:48Number one, everything matters equally, not true.
- 3:53Everything doesn't matter equally.
- 3:55We have different priorities, things that are more important, more urgent, and are
- 4:01day than others.
- 4:02There are certain tasks, actions, behaviors that we do that will get us closer to what
- 4:07we want and there's others that will take us further away.
- 4:10In the noise and the chaos of the day with multiple issues showing up on your radar, you've
- 4:17got to decide and make sure you understand that not everything matters equally.
- 4:22The second lie is multitasking, long and short multitasking is just a lie.
- 4:26You can't multitask.
- 4:27The brain can only exclusively focus on one thing.
- 4:30Research and studies show that if you try and multitask, you greatly extend the amount
- 4:35of time it takes for you to complete all the tasks and you wind up getting distracted,
- 4:39getting pulled away, and coming back and losing massive time productivity by trying to multitask.
- 4:44So very simply stop multitasking if you're doing it.
- 4:46Get focused, put the phone down, ever have that situation, that's the modern day version
- 4:51of multitasking, right?
- 4:52Are you trying to talk to somebody, your spouse, your kids, and what are they doing?
- 4:57They're multitasking on the phone, or that's probably not even a good word for it, right?
- 5:02Because what they're really doing is being distracted.
- 5:05So multitasking plain and simple doesn't work.
- 5:07What's the third lie?
- 5:09The third lie, a disciplined life.
- 5:11You know, there's a quote by Leo Babuta, it says it's one of the most prevalent myths
- 5:17of our culture, self-discipline.
- 5:19Now listen, I'm a believer in discipline, I'm a follower of Jaco, the podcast, and Jaco's
- 5:24got a tagline that says discipline equals freedom, and it does, right?
- 5:30But let's clarify the difference between the disciplined person who leads a disciplined
- 5:35life and then being disciplined about doing the right things.
- 5:40Because that's the different difference, right?
- 5:42Success is actually a short race, it's a sprint that's fueled by discipline just
- 5:48long enough for a habit to kick in and take over.
- 5:51So if you're attempting something in your business that you haven't done before or you're
- 5:54stepping into new activities and getting out of their marketplace you have and getting
- 5:57amongst realtors that you haven't before, right?
- 6:00That is going to be a discipline, right?
- 6:02But all you need to do is be, quote, disciplined long enough until it becomes a habit, right?
- 6:08For instance, smokers, do they need to be disciplined to smoke?
- 6:12No, right?
- 6:13Do drinkers need to be disciplined to drink?
- 6:15No, they just do, right?
- 6:18Do I need to be disciplined to work out on my schedule anymore?
- 6:22No, it's a habit, I just do it.
- 6:25I blocked the time, I put it on my calendar.
- 6:28So when you're disciplining yourself, you're essentially training yourself to act in a specific
- 6:32way, right?
- 6:34Stay with it long enough and it becomes routine.
- 6:37In other words, it becomes a habit.
- 6:41So when you see people who look like they're disciplined, what you're really seeing is people
- 6:44who've trained and conditioned their habits integrated into their lives, right?
- 6:51So it makes them seem disciplined when they're actually not.
- 6:54Does this make sense?
- 6:55So people would look at, I'll just, you know, again, talk about me, for example, because
- 6:58I take, you know, for me, my workout is something I time block.
- 7:04It's part of my daily routine.
- 7:06It is, in the beginning, was it a discipline, yes, now what is it?
- 7:10It's a habit.
- 7:11It's simply a regular part of my day.
- 7:12Does this make sense?
- 7:13Can you guys relate to this?
- 7:14It might be like your morning miracle time.
- 7:15If you wake up in the morning and, you know, discipline yourself to have some quiet
- 7:19time, well, soon enough that becomes a habit, right?
- 7:23So take this one on.
- 7:24You don't need to be disciplined, to be successful.
- 7:28You need to do the right thing and not worry about doing everything right, right?
- 7:35So the trick to success, the trick to achieving what you want is to choose the right habit and
- 7:39bring just enough discipline in to establish it.
- 7:43Wow, how's that for reframe?
- 7:45That's different, right?
- 7:47Choose the right habit and bring just enough discipline to establish it.
- 7:53This habit becomes part of your life.
- 7:56You start looking like a disciplined person, but you won't be one.
- 7:59You'll be someone who has something regularly working for you because you've worked on
- 8:04it.
- 8:05You'll be a person who used selected discipline to build a powerful habit.
- 8:10And when you do the right thing, when you make that choice, you can liberate you from
- 8:15having to monitor everything.
- 8:17And I think this is where Jocco's quote about discipline equals freedom comes in.
- 8:21So because when you're disciplined, when you've built those habits in, you have the freedom
- 8:24to make some other choices.
- 8:25You don't have to monitor every single small detail of your life or your business, okay?
- 8:30So the fourth lie, willpower is always on will call, right?
- 8:35Willpower is always on will call.
- 8:37Why would you ever do something hard way?
- 8:39Why would you ever knowingly get behind the eight ball, right, and get between a rock
- 8:43and a hard place?
- 8:45But most people do that every day, right?
- 8:47We use our willpower to conjure up the willpower to just, you know, set ourselves up to ultimately
- 8:55fail because we're relying on willpower.
- 8:59And willpower, have you noticed it?
- 9:01Willpower comes and goes.
- 9:03Sometimes you feel it.
- 9:05Sometimes you don't, right?
- 9:07Willpower can go AWOL.
- 9:08Think about when there comes to making the right choices of eating health, nutrition.
- 9:13Being patient with your kids, being patient with your spouse, right?
- 9:19So we have a finite amount of energy.
- 9:22This is why when I talked earlier about structuring your time blocks that you identify those
- 9:26times when you are highly productive, when you are most switched on, if you will, okay?
- 9:33Just as the old saying is, make hay while the sun shines, right?
- 9:37When you have your will, you get your way, okay?
- 9:40And we have your energy, your power.
- 9:42Think of your willpower like the power bar on your cell phone, right?
- 9:46We look down on your cell phone and we see, oh, full green, I got a full charge, right?
- 9:49So every morning you start out, let's assume with a full charge.
- 9:52As the day goes on, just like a phone, if it's not recharged, right?
- 9:56Every time you draw on that power, you're using app, you use its capacity, you're using
- 10:01up the power on the phone, right?
- 10:05It's a limited but renewable resource.
- 10:08So willpower has a limited battery life, but it can be recharged with some downtime, right?
- 10:14Does this make sense?
- 10:18So everyone accepts that limited resources must be managed.
- 10:21We fail to recognize that willpower, our willpower is also one of them.
- 10:26Okay, so wrapping up willpower, let me just sum it up with, you know, do your most important
- 10:30task, your most important, your one thing early before your willpower is drawn down.
- 10:36As your self control, your attention span, your ability to focus is sapped throughout
- 10:43the day, much like a cell phone that doesn't recharged, use your willpower when it's at
- 10:48its full strength on what matters most.
- 10:52Don't spread your willpower too thin, decide what matters most and reserve your willpower
- 10:56for it.
- 10:57If that's making calls to agents, if that's calling your past database, if that's getting
- 11:01belly to belly and meeting agents, if that's giving a presentation in front of a group
- 11:06of agents, if that's getting your CRM setup, if that's setting up your perfect loan process
- 11:13with your loan officer assistant or processor, whatever it is, whatever, your one thing is
- 11:18for that day, right?
- 11:20Do it when you're at your best, when your battery is fully charged.
- 11:24And then monitor it throughout the day, right?
- 11:26Never let what matters most be compromised simply because your brain is under fueled and
- 11:30what does this mean?
- 11:31It means eat, right?
- 11:33Right?
- 11:34Get rest, exercise, take care of you, the machine, the vehicle that's going to get you to the destination.
- 11:41And then lastly, do what matters most for each day when your willpower is stronger.
- 11:45Maximize your willpower means maximize success, okay?
- 11:49Don't fight it.
- 11:50And by the way, it's okay.
- 11:51It's all right to take the little, you know, you want to recharge, take time away.
- 11:54As I said earlier, on episode one about time blocking, block out your time, get your task
- 11:59done and take a break, come back, recharged, you're ready to go at it again.
- 12:03Okay?
- 12:04All right, let's move on to the fifth lie.
- 12:07We're getting to it.
- 12:08Are you liking this so far?
- 12:09I hope so, okay?
- 12:11The fifth lie, a balanced life, right?
- 12:17So is a balanced life possible?
- 12:20Well, I think it is, but in order to do so, you've got to choose what matters most, right?
- 12:27What are the important buckets in your life?
- 12:29Let me read a quote from you by Keith Hammons.
- 12:32The truth is balance is bunk.
- 12:33It's an unattainable pipe dream.
- 12:35The quest for balance between work and life as we've come to think of it is it isn't just
- 12:39a losing proposition, it's a hurtful destructive one.
- 12:43So as I read a few excerpts from the book here, a balanced life is a lie.
- 12:48The idea of a balance is exactly that, an idea.
- 12:51In philosophy, the golden mean is the moderate and middle between polar extremes.
- 12:57It's a grand idea, but not a very practical one.
- 12:59Idealistic, but not realistic.
- 13:01Wow.
- 13:02This is tough to conceive.
- 13:05For me, in particular, because I'm all about, let's have some balance, right?
- 13:09But you know, here I need more balance, right?
- 13:12We hear about balance so much, we automatically assume it's what we should be seeking.
- 13:16Let's put this in the context, right, of balance.
- 13:21So in your effort to attend to all things, everything gets short-changed.
- 13:26So the desire for balance makes sense, right, enough time for everything and everything
- 13:29done in time.
- 13:30It sounds appealing, but it's just not true because if you look at the history of the work
- 13:35life balance, there was a study that was done from 1986, all the way to 2011, and the
- 13:41work life balance is way out of whack.
- 13:43It's continued to grow more out of whack as time has grown, and that's probably just a
- 13:47sign of the times that we live in, right?
- 13:49The real reason we shouldn't pursue balance, I'll think about this now, the real reason
- 13:54we shouldn't pursue balance is because magic never happens in the middle.
- 13:59Magic never happens by just riding the median line.
- 14:04Magic happens at the extremes, I'll say that again, magic happens at the extremes.
- 14:10And by the way, it's not about long hours because when we work too long, obviously our
- 14:15personal life suffers, our health suffers.
- 14:17So don't fall prey to the belief that long hours is some type of a virtuous activity
- 14:23or task to take on, right?
- 14:26And that's of course propagated a lot in today's world on social media, 24-7 work ethic
- 14:34and up at 430 and work until midnight and all that stuff, that is also a lie.
- 14:41So sometimes we face personal and professional demands where things just suffer and something
- 14:47has to give, right?
- 14:48Okay, so let's try and make sense of the whole this thing, right?
- 14:52So to achieve an extraordinary result in your business, if you've got a goal, if you
- 14:55want to grow your origination volume, you want to hit president's club, you want to make
- 15:00a certain amount of money, right?
- 15:01To achieve an extraordinary result, you've got to choose what matters most and give it
- 15:05all the time it demands.
- 15:07And for a period of time, this may require getting extremely out of balance in relation
- 15:12to all the other work issues with only infrequent counterbalances to address them.
- 15:18So what does that mean?
- 15:19That means that you're one thing.
- 15:20If it is to get in front of real estate agents, more of them, other things in your work
- 15:24life are probably going to have to suffer.
- 15:27And this is where having your processes set up, meaning you can't spend your days babysitting
- 15:31loans.
- 15:32You can't spend your day chasing down conditions.
- 15:35You've got to spend your focus time on your one thing that's going to make the biggest
- 15:39impact on your business.
- 15:40And therefore, if you're doing that, other things naturally have to suffer.
- 15:45You're juggling these balls, right?
- 15:47Now, here's the thing though, in your personal life, awareness is key.
- 15:52Awareness of your energy, your spirit, your body, your family, your friends, your personal
- 15:56needs, none of these can be sacrificed if you intend to have a life.
- 16:00So don't forsake them for work or one for the other.
- 16:04Here's the secret I want you to take away from this, the distinction, listen up.
- 16:08You can move back and forth quickly between these areas and often combine the activities
- 16:14around them.
- 16:15But you can't neglect any of them for long, right?
- 16:18Your personal life requires tight counter-balancing.
- 16:21So, whether you go out of balance or not really isn't the question, question is, you go
- 16:25shorter long.
- 16:26In your personal life, you go short and avoid long periods where you're out of balance.
- 16:31No, going short lets you stay connected to all the things that matter most and move
- 16:35them along together.
- 16:36In your business, right, go long and make peace with the idea that the pursuit of extraordinary
- 16:41results may require you to be out of balance for long periods.
- 16:44So, let me say this again, in your personal life, go short and avoid long periods where
- 16:50you're out of balance.
- 16:51What does that mean?
- 16:52Again, you can go out of balance for short periods, especially if you have the right communication
- 16:57with the people around you, your friends, your family, your kids.
- 17:00You can simply explain to them, look, for the next two days, for the next week, I'm going
- 17:04to be devoting a lot of time to this project, to work, right?
- 17:10But after that, I'm going to come back and we're going to spend some quality time together.
- 17:13So, that would be an example of a proper communication plan, right?
- 17:17And that's okay because you need to stay in check with those things, right?
- 17:20So, going short on that still allows you to stay connected.
- 17:23Everybody's aware, everybody's on the same page, you're not just going dark and going
- 17:27rogue, right?
- 17:28So, going short in your personal life still allows you to connect to all the things and
- 17:32people that matter to the most and to move them along together with the focus on your
- 17:37one thing in your business.
- 17:39So, this makes sense?
- 17:40It's a concept you've got to take on over time.
- 17:43So, in your business, go long and make peace with the idea that pursuing the results you
- 17:49want may require you to be out of balance in your business for long periods.
- 17:54So, what again, this means is allowing you to focus on what matters most even at the expense
- 18:01of the other lesser priorities.
- 18:03And again, if you can set up the systems, the communication plan with people and processes
- 18:09to minimize, right, the impact of those, then you'll be that much more successful there.
- 18:14So, in your personal life, nothing gets left behind.
- 18:17At work, it's required.
- 18:19How many of those little distractions, little interruptions, little, you know, tasks that
- 18:26are other people's emergencies and urgencies, but they're not yours.
- 18:32So, think about it like this.
- 18:34Let me wrap up with a couple of ideas.
- 18:36Think about two balancing buckets, right?
- 18:38You separate your work life and your personal life into two distinct buckets.
- 18:42Not to compartmentalize them, but just for counterbalancing.
- 18:45Each has its own counterbalancing goals and how you approach that.
- 18:49So, you want to counterbalance your work bucket, right?
- 18:51You work as, right, these are skills and knowledge that must be mastered, skills like getting
- 18:57in front of agents, giving effective presentations, converting better, right?
- 19:01Having better presentation, scripting, and so forth, okay?
- 19:05Focusing on this on your work bucket will cause you to give disproportionate time to your
- 19:08one thing, that one thing that you must focus on, that if you do, everything else becomes
- 19:14easier or unnecessary.
- 19:18Focusing your one thing, it'll throw the rest of your workday, your week, your month,
- 19:21and your year out of balance, right?
- 19:25Your work life, those divided into two distinct areas, what matters most and everything else.
- 19:32You'll have to take what matters most to the extremes of your focus and your time,
- 19:40and you'll have to be okay with what happens to the rest.
- 19:43So again, in your work bucket, you have to be okay with focusing on your one thing,
- 19:49and that's going to throw off the other things that you've got in play related to loans
- 19:54in process, maybe administrative stuff, maybe, you know, taking those online, continuing
- 20:00ed courses that everybody's got to take, but you've got to set up some systems to be
- 20:04able to deal with that and counterbalance that over there, right?
- 20:07It's about communication, particularly in the area of, you know, your loans and file loans
- 20:11in process and things like that, right?
- 20:13Okay.
- 20:14And then let's talk about your personal life bucket, right?
- 20:17Is it your life actually does have multiple areas and each requires a minimum of attention
- 20:22for you to feel like you have a life?
- 20:24Don't ever want to be one of those people who say, I have no life.
- 20:27That means you're out of balance, yes.
- 20:30And as I said, we go, we swing in and out of balance.
- 20:34But if you feel like you have no life, that means you haven't gone short on your personal
- 20:40life with being out of balance, you've gone long.
- 20:43Does this make sense?
- 20:44So this requires you to be constantly aware, right?
- 20:47Where's the needle out?
- 20:48You must never go for too long or too far without counterbalancing your personal life bucket.
- 20:55Your personal life requires it so that you don't ever feel like I don't have a life anymore.
- 21:00Don't ever let your life be 100% consumed by the work bucket.
- 21:05This is again, why it's important to focus on your one thing because remember, the qualifying
- 21:09question is, what's the one thing you can do every day?
- 21:14So that by doing it, everything else becomes easier or unnecessary.
- 21:20For many of you, it comes down to sheer numbers of agents on your bus.
- 21:24If you're focused on building a referral-based business, most of you don't have enough referral
- 21:29agent partners.
- 21:30And so you're out of balance because you're spending a lot of time searching, chasing,
- 21:35looking, turning over stones and looking for these referrals and these agents and these.
- 21:39And you meet with these agents and you don't get any referrals after the lunch meeting,
- 21:43or they don't even show for the lunch meeting.
- 21:45And this is why for you, perhaps, deciding your one thing that you need to do is get more
- 21:51agent referral partners.
- 21:53And if that's you, if you haven't yet checked out, get powerfulpresentations.com, check
- 21:59it out.
- 22:00It is a highly leveraged one thing activity that when you do it, the act of attracting,
- 22:10and converting agents to referral partners becomes much easier and eventually unnecessary.
- 22:17So check it out.
- 22:18Get powerfulpresentations.com.
- 22:19It will put you in front of the law of large numbers, maximizing agents in minimum
- 22:25time.
- 22:26Okay.
- 22:27So to recap, everything matters equally, not true, multitasking.
- 22:31It's a lie.
- 22:32A disciplined life.
- 22:34It's about habits, building habits.
- 22:36The power is always on will call.
- 22:38No, it's not.
- 22:39You have to structure and plan for your highest and best energy.
- 22:44A balanced life doesn't exist.
- 22:47And number six, the final one, big is bad.
- 22:52Here's a quote from Robert Brolt.
- 22:54We are kept from our goal, not by obstacles, but by a clear path to a lesser goal.
- 23:01I don't know where you sit with big, the whole big is bad thing, right?
- 23:07And this started during the too big to fail phase and all the big banks and the big corporations
- 23:11just becoming huge and there's probably some of it behind that, but big is bad is a lie.
- 23:18What's wrong with wanting an extraordinary life?
- 23:21A big opportunity is better than a small one, isn't it?
- 23:24But a small problem is better than a big one.
- 23:27Because you want the biggest present under the tree and sometimes you want the smallest.
- 23:31Often a big laugh or a big cry is just what you need.
- 23:34And every so often, a small chuckle and a few tears will do the trick.
- 23:39This is all about what the meaning you give to the words.
- 23:43Big and bad are no more tied together and small and good.
- 23:47And this is quite possibly, according to the book, the one thing.
- 23:49It's quite possibly the worst lie of all.
- 23:51If you fear big success, you'll either avoid it or sabotage your efforts to achieve it.
- 23:59Because really, what's your ceiling?
- 24:00What's your ceiling of success?
- 24:02You may have consciously decided that, oh, I only want to do so much because this is my age
- 24:09and this is my stage in life, right?
- 24:12Remember, when they used to believe that the earth was flat?
- 24:15How many ships didn't sail because of that belief, right?
- 24:20How about the belief that man wasn't supposed to breathe underwater, fly or go into outer space?
- 24:26None of us knows our limits.
- 24:28You can't see borders and boundaries.
- 24:31They're good for a map.
- 24:32But when you apply them to your life, the lines aren't so apparent.
- 24:36How many of you listening right now look back on your life where you're at today?
- 24:41You're in a place that you never thought you would be at.
- 24:45Do you know what your limits are?
- 24:46I don't think anybody does.
- 24:48How about allowing yourself to accept that big isn't necessarily about money?
- 24:53It's not necessarily about loan volume and closed units and the wonderful stats we see
- 24:59of the top 200 producers in the country.
- 25:02What if you allow yourself to simply accept that big, going big, going for it, right?
- 25:08Go big or go home?
- 25:10What if that's really more about who you can become?
- 25:15How about visualizing you at your best?
- 25:18Being the best person, human being, that you can be.
- 25:23The best business professional, mortgage loan originator.
- 25:27Speaking of that, have you ever thought about your why?
- 25:29We'll do another session on your why.
- 25:32Why are you here?
- 25:32Why are you even a mortgage loan originator?
- 25:35Hopefully it's not just to pay the bills.
- 25:38So obviously success requires action.
- 25:40Action requires thought, but here's the catch.
- 25:42The only actions that become springboards to succeeding are succeeding big.
- 25:47Are those informed by big thinking to begin with?
- 25:52And make this connection and the importance of how big you think begins to sink in.
- 25:57So we've all got the same amount of time in a day, right?
- 26:0124 hours.
- 26:02Hard work, it's hard work.
- 26:04So what you do in the time that you work determines what you achieve.
- 26:09And since what you do is determined by what you think, how big you think becomes the
- 26:15launching pad for what you achieve.
- 26:19And remember, I said this concept of big, what if you just took on for a moment that the
- 26:24concept of thinking big is about who you can become, who you can become, the impact you
- 26:30can have in your personal and professional life.
- 26:33So only by thinking, living big, by focusing on you becoming the best version of you, only
- 26:41that type of thinking will allow you to experience your true life and work potential and
- 26:48your potential.
- 26:49Obviously as a human being, the impact you have as a human being, what type of impact
- 26:52do you want to have?
- 26:53Do you want to leave?
- 26:54Are you playing close to your heart?
- 26:56Are you keeping your cards close, checked in?
- 26:58Are you sitting on the stands on the sideline?
- 27:01Are you in the game?
- 27:03Are you applying the things we're talking about here today to be the best version of
- 27:07you can be?
- 27:09An example that would be asked for, you know, ask yourself bigger questions, right?
- 27:14Set a goal so far above what you want that you'll be building a plan that requires
- 27:19you become that person to achieve it.
- 27:21Who do you need to become?
- 27:22See, it's not about the goals necessarily.
- 27:26That's part of it, but it's more about how you become in the process, okay?
- 27:30Act boldly.
- 27:31Big thoughts go nowhere without bold action.
- 27:35As you've asked the big question, pause to imagine what life will look like with that
- 27:39answer.
- 27:40When you ask yourself, who do I really want to be at my core?
- 27:43What do I want my business to look like?
- 27:45Who am I impacting on a daily basis?
- 27:47Who am I touching, right?
- 27:49An impacting in a positive way.
- 27:52Imagine what that looks like.
- 27:54Picture it in your mind.
- 27:55How are you walking?
- 27:56How are you talking?
- 27:57How are you presenting yourself?
- 27:58How do you enter a room?
- 27:59How do you carry a conversation?
- 28:01Are you in more control?
- 28:02You take more charge of those conversations with agents and with borrowers who are working
- 28:09you on price, are you more confident in your interactions?
- 28:13And if you still can't see yourself, there's study those who've already achieved what
- 28:16you want to achieve.
- 28:17Look at some of the models, the systems, the habits and relationships.
- 28:21Oftentimes the seeds of what we want to accomplish are found by the achievements of those
- 28:26who've gone before us.
- 28:28So act boldly, ask yourself the big question, imagine what you look like with that answer.
- 28:34And then look also at some models that might have been left for you in advance.
- 28:39And of course, don't fear failure, right?
- 28:43Guess what failure is?
- 28:44It's a part of the journey, right?
- 28:47It's a part of the journey.
- 28:48There is no success without failure, there is no growth without failure, right?
- 28:53Adopt a growth mindset and don't be afraid of where it can take you.
- 28:56Maybe this is your greatest challenge ever.
- 28:57Maybe you're bumping up against the ceiling of your greatness.
- 29:02Like if you envision a white circle, like draw a circle on a white piece of paper, right?
- 29:08And then inside that circle is a tiny little dot.
- 29:11And all the white space within that circle where the tiny little dot is, that's your comfort
- 29:16zone.
- 29:17And all you've got to do, perhaps, is shift your thinking just a little bit, just a tad
- 29:22outside the outer edge of that comfort zone.
- 29:26Go ahead, jump over that circle, that little dot inside that white circle now just stepped
- 29:32outside of its comfort zone.
- 29:34And now look at the white space, it has its new level.
- 29:40That's what's available to you on the other side.
- 29:42But extraordinary results are also built on failure.
- 29:46It'd be accurate to say we fail our way to success.
- 29:49When we fail, we stop, we pause, we evaluate.
- 29:53What do we need to do to succeed?
- 29:54We learn and grow.
- 29:56So don't be afraid, failure, embrace it, embrace it, because it's part of the journey.
- 30:03Don't let small thinking cut your life down to size.
- 30:05Think big, aim high, act bold, and see just how big you can blow up your life in who you
- 30:11can become, in order to have it all, in order to have more, we need to become more.
- 30:19We have to make choices, we have to make priorities, we have to be smart about choosing
- 30:23the right priorities.
- 30:25And the most important resource, most precious resource you have in your life is your time.
- 30:32Each of your areas of your life have different levels of priority.
- 30:34You have to choose your one thing, that by doing it, everything else will become easier
- 30:42or unnecessary.
- 30:44What's your one thing I'd like to know?
- 30:47Leave a comment if you like the direction we're going with this one thing and you want
- 30:51more.
- 30:52Leave a comment.
- 30:53Love your feedback.
- 30:54Do you think I'm full of bull?
- 30:55Leave a comment.
- 30:56Once again, much of what I'm sharing with you has come out of the book, the one thing
- 31:00by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan, if you haven't got it, I encourage you to check it out.
- 31:04I'm going to continue this dialogue with you guys and we're going to be bringing on some
- 31:09special guests in the coming episodes as well, so that is coming.
- 31:13So stay tuned for that, make sure you subscribe.
- 31:17And once again, if you are at a point in your business where you recognize that the one
- 31:21thing you need to do so that everything else becomes easier or unnecessary is get more
- 31:27referral partners, real estate agents sending you deals every month, consider checking
- 31:33out, get powerful presentations.
- 31:35It is the law of large numbers in your favor.
- 31:37You know capturing and converting and attracting agents is a numbers game.
- 31:42And you don't want to be chasing agents.
- 31:44And if you're done with coal calling and door knocking and looking for a more effective
- 31:47leveraged way to get in front of and present your value proposition to agents and doing
- 31:52it away that has agents becoming attracted to you and having the competition fall by
- 31:58the wayside and you becoming known as the go to lender in your local market and actually
- 32:03having a proven system and plan for getting in front of groups of agents every single
- 32:09month so that you can sift, sort, convert, add, delete and doing it at scale so that much
- 32:15like when I started the same process and many other loan officers, you'll get to where
- 32:21you need to get much quicker if you put the law of large numbers to work in your favor.
- 32:26And that's what teaching agent classes can do.
- 32:29So imagine for a moment a library of done for you agent classes, turn key PowerPoints,
- 32:34speaker notes, handouts, video tutorials, teaching you how to conduct the class and share
- 32:40the topic.
- 32:41By the way, you do not need to be an expert in the class topics.
- 32:45We're talking about teaching agents how to get started with video marketing, millennial
- 32:49marketing for real estate, content marketing, Facebook.
- 32:52These are topics they are hungry to learn.
