- 0:05Speaker 1: Appolochie production.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I need your advice.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Are you okay? What happened?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Promise it won't be too much.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Bring it in.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Welcome to our Bestie segment. This is the place for you.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Hello everybody, Welcome back to our Bestie episode where you
- 0:31Speaker 1: send in your anonymous submissions or in your sticky situations
- 0:34Speaker 1: or something that you just want Bessie advice. Maybe you've
- 0:36Speaker 1: got something that you can't bring into your close circle
- 0:38Speaker 1: because there's shame or you don't want people talking about it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We are your girls now. Most of the submissions that
- 0:45Speaker 1: come through are around sex, relationships and friendships, a law
- 0:49Speaker 1: around friendships, and that's what today's is. So the title
- 0:52Speaker 1: is she watches my stories yet never replies? Is this
- 0:57Speaker 1: friendship dead? Before we get into it, we're talking about
- 0:59Speaker 1: this morning. Why do women do that?
- 1:01Speaker 2: We were we watched the video on this this evening.
- 1:03Speaker 1: If your friend has uploaded real or a set of
- 1:06Speaker 1: stories or a TikTok engage, just comment. It takes two seconds,
- 1:11Speaker 1: two seconds, and it shows that you're supporting, It shows
- 1:13Speaker 1: that you're watching. It helps her engagement. Why the fuck
- 1:15Speaker 1: would you not do that? Yeah, it's wild, It's friggin' wild.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I don't. I don't like that.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I don't know. It really doesn't take much. No, it
- 1:22Speaker 2: doesn't take much.
- 1:22Speaker 3: And like support goes a long way when we think
- 1:24Speaker 3: of like businesses in person, way back when when it
- 1:27Speaker 3: was all just brick and mortar, it was word of
- 1:28Speaker 3: mouth before we had social media. But now we have
- 1:31Speaker 3: social media, so it's like, why don't we support and
- 1:32Speaker 3: help when we can? We can actually help push you know,
- 1:35Speaker 3: it all takes two seconds.
- 1:36Speaker 1: You bet you on any of our stuff, you're going
- 1:37Speaker 1: to see cupping.
- 1:38Speaker 3: In marj you go girl every single post and so
- 1:42Speaker 3: its should be just for context?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Are you supposed to three times a day?
- 1:46Speaker 3: Ashy was the first one to comment on every single
- 1:48Speaker 3: one of them, Like ash.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So, I just think it's free. It takes two seconds.
- 1:52Speaker 1: It means the world to your friends. Like comments and
- 1:55Speaker 1: engagement from my friends and family means so much to
- 1:57Speaker 1: me compared to strangers. It's like, oh, like, I don't know,
- 2:00Speaker 1: it just means a lot.
- 2:01Speaker 3: And when you do see like oh they were thinking
- 2:03Speaker 3: of me, or they made the effort, and it's not
- 2:05Speaker 3: even just the art of them posting, it's like, oh, wow,
- 2:07Speaker 3: they cared about me enough to comment and support me
- 2:10Speaker 3: in this.
- 2:10Speaker 1: If you think that your comment doesn't matter, it does,
- 2:12Speaker 1: because I've definitely noticed when you don't do it. Anyways,
- 2:15Speaker 1: what have we got today?
- 2:16Speaker 2: All right, take it away.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I was good friends with this girl for many years.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I moved states and we lost a bit of contact,
- 2:22Speaker 3: but still chattered here and there. She has been through
- 2:25Speaker 3: a lot lately, and we've both had big life changes.
- 2:28Speaker 3: For example, I had a baby. My issue is that
- 2:31Speaker 3: she takes some times months to reply to my messages,
- 2:35Speaker 3: or sometimes doesn't even reply at all. However, she will
- 2:38Speaker 3: open them and then post stories and reshare stories she
- 2:41Speaker 3: is tagged in, but just won't reply to me. She
- 2:45Speaker 3: has also never really congratulated me on the birth of
- 2:47Speaker 3: my baby. I messaged her and said something along the
- 2:50Speaker 3: lines of, hey, it's been ages, how are you? And
- 2:53Speaker 3: she didn't reply. My question is do I just leave
- 2:57Speaker 3: it or do I remove her and move on. She
- 2:59Speaker 3: was a great friend, but she's not showing friendship qualities
- 3:01Speaker 3: these days. I absolutely don't feel the need to send
- 3:04Speaker 3: her an essay. Those days are behind me and I
- 3:06Speaker 3: shouldn't have to tell someone how to be a good friend.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I feel mixed about this, more so recently in the
- 3:12Speaker 1: last year or two, I think I used to have
- 3:14Speaker 1: quite high expectations on my friends and how they show
- 3:18Speaker 1: up and how they give, and I think it's quite
- 3:23Speaker 1: damaging to a friendship. So I feel in two minds.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Half of me is like, you don't know what she's
- 3:28Speaker 1: going through. You don't know where her capacity is at.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You don't know if maybe she's out growing the friendship.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You don't know if she's battling something that you know
- 3:35Speaker 1: nothing about, and she just like is just dealing with
- 3:37Speaker 1: what she can right now. Then the other half for
- 3:39Speaker 1: me is like, it doesn't take much to reply, or
- 3:42Speaker 1: if you're feeling something, have a conversation, have their respect
- 3:45Speaker 1: to have a conversation, to say this chapter is closing
- 3:47Speaker 1: or something. So I feel in two minds because I've
- 3:50Speaker 1: had friends that have gone through something or are going
- 3:52Speaker 1: through something and they've literally communicated and said, I do
- 3:55Speaker 1: not have the capacity for anyone right now. I am
- 3:57Speaker 1: just full survival. I'm so sorry I haven't got back
- 3:59Speaker 1: to me, we haven't caught up. Bear with me, and
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, cool. But then like when someone's a
- 4:04Speaker 1: prior and you love them like we do, it's just
- 4:07Speaker 1: like I don't feel like it's hard to send a
- 4:10Speaker 1: text no, or pick out the phone or not at all.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't know, I feel too much.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Oh, this one's tricky, But honestly, the first thing that
- 4:18Speaker 3: comes to my mind is just like, tell her how
- 4:20Speaker 3: you feel.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah, just tell her how you feel.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Doesn't have to be an essay, but you can send
- 4:24Speaker 1: a voice message.
- 4:25Speaker 3: No, even the Oh, I don't want to send her
- 4:26Speaker 3: an essay, those days are behind me. It's like communication
- 4:29Speaker 3: is not though. No, communication not behind me. The days
- 4:31Speaker 3: of communication are not behind you. And how you feel,
- 4:34Speaker 3: honoring how you feel. And I think the biggest thing,
- 4:36Speaker 3: at least for me when it comes to things like this,
- 4:38Speaker 3: what I've done in the past is I've told myself
- 4:41Speaker 3: I just want to show up in the way that
- 4:43Speaker 3: I am proud of in this moment, and then it doesn't.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Matter how they respond.
- 4:46Speaker 3: So I guess the question for you that I would
- 4:48Speaker 3: have for you is how would you want to respond
- 4:51Speaker 3: in this dynamic with her that you can walk away,
- 4:54Speaker 3: go to bed at night and be like, I'm so
- 4:56Speaker 3: proud of the way that I handled that situation, because
- 4:58Speaker 3: at the end of the day, the only thing that
- 4:59Speaker 3: matters is how you behaved, not how she behaved. And yes,
- 5:03Speaker 3: it can be disappointing and overwhelming and hurtful and sad
- 5:07Speaker 3: and all of those things.
- 5:08Speaker 2: But also, you.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Can only do your part and your side of the dance.
- 5:13Speaker 3: You can't control what other people do. So what do
- 5:15Speaker 3: you want to do? What do you want to say?
- 5:17Speaker 3: If you could express in a really beautiful way without
- 5:20Speaker 3: pointing the finger, what's come up for you and how
- 5:21Speaker 3: you're feeling. And it was the last thing that you
- 5:25Speaker 3: ever said to her, what would you say?
- 5:28Speaker 1: I've been in a similar situation, and for so long
- 5:31Speaker 1: I kept trying to make the friendship work, and I
- 5:33Speaker 1: kept reaching out, I kept trying to catch up, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: it just wasn't working. I think it got to a
- 5:38Speaker 1: point where I then communicated how I felt and the
- 5:41Speaker 1: friendship drined it away. Yeah, I was like, Okay, well,
- 5:44Speaker 1: obviously we've grown a part or she doesn't want this
- 5:45Speaker 1: friendship anymore. And it also got to a point where
- 5:47Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not going to be in a
- 5:49Speaker 1: friendship where I'm the only one putting effort in. Of course, well,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't be with Steve if that was the case.
- 5:54Speaker 1: This is a team thing. This is a two of us.
- 5:57Speaker 1: It is, we've both got to clean up our own lanes.
- 5:59Speaker 1: We've both got to put effort in and nurture this
- 6:00Speaker 1: friendship otherwise it's going to dwindle a part once again
- 6:04Speaker 1: if someone's going through a sea, and I feel like
- 6:05Speaker 1: that's a responsibility to tell you and let you know.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But yeah, with this one particular friendship, I remember feeling
- 6:11Speaker 1: so butt her because I just felt like I wasn't
- 6:12Speaker 1: a priority and made up stories that she didn't care.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And maybe she didn't I still don't know, but it
- 6:18Speaker 1: did get to a point where I was like, actually, no,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I'm not going to be the only person putting evidentto
- 6:22Speaker 1: this friendship. I'm going to let this go. I to
- 6:24Speaker 1: invisibly cut that cord and we we're not friends anymore.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It's so sad, and it's so heartbreaking because you always
- 6:29Speaker 1: kind of agrieve what the friendship was, yeh, you agrieve
- 6:31Speaker 1: what you used to have, and you a grieve that
- 6:33Speaker 1: you thought it'd be forever thing. I think girlfriends, you
- 6:35Speaker 1: don't ever think it's going to end.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so true.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It's like me and you, Trevor, like you know, it's so.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Heartbreaking when that doesn't it is so scary. I actually
- 6:44Speaker 3: love your suggestion. I love my suggestion too, and I
- 6:46Speaker 3: feel like there could be a beautiful blend of both.
- 6:48Speaker 3: If you want to communicate, if this person is important
- 6:51Speaker 3: enough to you, yes, where you genuinely are like yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 3: if this is how you discern do you respect them,
- 6:57Speaker 3: love them, care about them enough, or you're like just
- 7:00Speaker 3: want them in your life? Does this deserve a conversation?
- 7:03Speaker 3: Does this deserve one last mess? Or is this just
- 7:06Speaker 3: one of those things where it's like, you know what,
- 7:08Speaker 3: Like they're not that important to me, then they haven't
- 7:10Speaker 3: been that big of an impact in my life, not
- 7:12Speaker 3: as connected, we're not as connected lives. This isn't as safe.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Then it's like, okay, can I just let this fizzle out?
- 7:18Speaker 3: So even if you did send a message and you
- 7:20Speaker 3: shared a little bit about how you felt, but you
- 7:22Speaker 3: also don't want to call in more of this friendship,
- 7:25Speaker 3: you can say like, I'm not going to be making
- 7:27Speaker 3: an effort anymore, like I wish you all the best,
- 7:29Speaker 3: I love you, I care about you. I hope you're
- 7:31Speaker 3: doing it open, but obviously I'm just going to leave
- 7:34Speaker 3: it here. And I think that could be a really
- 7:37Speaker 3: beautiful way to express what you're feeling, but also close
- 7:39Speaker 3: it and close the door a little bit and then
- 7:42Speaker 3: allow yourself to like open up to new people who
- 7:44Speaker 3: will come into your life and love you for all
- 7:45Speaker 3: of you and never make you guess or question if
- 7:49Speaker 3: they love you. I don't ever want to feel like
- 7:51Speaker 3: that in a friendship for again, No, because when there's
- 7:52Speaker 3: no doubt, trust me, you know about it, you know.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And when you have those friendships you're talking about this yesterday,
- 7:57Speaker 1: it just highlights it's like this or nothing. I do
- 8:01Speaker 1: think something's here for her though, because for her not
- 8:03Speaker 1: to congratulate you on your baby, I'm sorry, but that's
- 8:06Speaker 1: pretty powerful.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty sad you've had a.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Baby, Like it's one of the biggest, most beautiful, magical
- 8:12Speaker 1: blessings that will ever happen in your lifetime. They can't
- 8:16Speaker 1: congratulate you. It's like when I went through brain surgery,
- 8:18Speaker 1: did that show me who was there and who was not?
- 8:20Speaker 1: The people that didn't even message to say good luck
- 8:23Speaker 1: with your surgery? Do you need anything? And then the
- 8:25Speaker 1: ones that came out of the woodworks were like, can
- 8:27Speaker 1: I take your kids? What is Steve need? What can
- 8:29Speaker 1: I bring you. I was like, wow, yeah, it was incredible,
- 8:31Speaker 1: like night and day. It was night and day, and
- 8:33Speaker 1: I was like, I fully, fully know now that when
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm at my absolute rock bottom, if I was on
- 8:38Speaker 1: my deathbed, I know who's going to show up for me,
- 8:40Speaker 1: my kids. Yeah, And it was so much easier to
- 8:42Speaker 1: cut cords on people that I wasn't quite sure if
- 8:45Speaker 1: we were still like close. Yeah, it was an easy
- 8:47Speaker 1: yes or no.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Of course, this makes sense.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Literally, That's how my brain surgery was like one of
- 8:51Speaker 1: the best things that ever happened to me because it
- 8:52Speaker 1: showed everything so clearly. Yeah, in my friendships, in my
- 8:55Speaker 1: life and my relationship, what I wanted to do, what
- 8:57Speaker 1: wasn't working for me, what made me happy I wanted
- 9:00Speaker 1: to go. It's so cool to see it so clearly.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So I do think something's here for her and I
- 9:04Speaker 1: can go you on your baby, and also congratulations beautiful. Yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 1: So I hope this helps. I think it's worth having
- 9:12Speaker 1: a conversation and bringing up and also sometimes just like
- 9:15Speaker 1: a voice notes a really nice way to do it too,
- 9:17Speaker 1: because I think then the person on the other end
- 9:19Speaker 1: they have time to process what you've said. You've got
- 9:22Speaker 1: to honor how you feel. You can practice it. If
- 9:25Speaker 1: you do, a voice says you, fuck, I want to
- 9:26Speaker 1: do that differently. You know, you can stop and start
- 9:29Speaker 1: it again. You can express it, get it out there,
- 9:31Speaker 1: give them time to process. If they don't answer, there's
- 9:34Speaker 1: your answer. Yeah, but you've honored yourself absolutely.
- 9:37Speaker 3: And like what you said about the voice message, it's
- 9:38Speaker 3: so much easier when you hear somebody's voice. It's overtake
- 9:41Speaker 3: instead of reading it in the way that your brain
- 9:43Speaker 3: is interpreting it, which is whatever story you want to
- 9:45Speaker 3: convince yourself.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You'll find it.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you hear their voice and you're like, oh, but
- 9:49Speaker 3: I love this person. Yeah, or like what you said.
- 9:51Speaker 3: If they don't respond, then just be okay with whatever
- 9:55Speaker 3: may happen. Be okay with whether they respond or potential
- 9:58Speaker 3: if she doesn't respond it and.
- 10:00Speaker 1: There's a certain way. I feel like you're really beautiful
- 10:02Speaker 1: at wording it. But if I was, I would word
- 10:04Speaker 1: it in a way something along the lines. We do
- 10:06Speaker 1: this a lot. I could be assuming and I'm probably
- 10:09Speaker 1: in my head hello anxious attachment, But I really miss
- 10:12Speaker 1: you and I haven't heard you from you in ages.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Are you all good? Are we all good? What's happening,
- 10:16Speaker 1: like I want to know what's happening in your life.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I love you, because then there's no blame, there's no criticism,
- 10:21Speaker 1: there's no assuming. You're kind of saying hey, like, and
- 10:27Speaker 1: I find that is way more well received rather than
- 10:30Speaker 1: going and be like, you know, you didn't congratulate me
- 10:32Speaker 1: about my baby. You haven't reached out, you never reply,
- 10:35Speaker 1: You take months.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Da da da.
- 10:36Speaker 1: There are walls instantly up. They're getting to be on the defensive,
- 10:39Speaker 1: and you're going to push them away more. You've lost them.
- 10:41Speaker 1: You've lost lost them, go one vulnerably, go on playfully.
- 10:44Speaker 1: You still get to say I miss you, like I
- 10:45Speaker 1: want to know what's going on in your life, and
- 10:47Speaker 1: then you can see how they respond and how they react,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and then you're going to get.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Your answers by you just said that so beautifully. I
- 10:53Speaker 3: think that's such a cool way to go about it.
- 10:55Speaker 3: And then what if something has happened for her and
- 10:57Speaker 3: she's like, oh, you know what, this is what's been happening.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Emo, Actually you're safe for them to unload now, that's.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Right, And then maybe there's a reason why she didn't
- 11:04Speaker 3: congratulate you, or it could be like once there's a
- 11:06Speaker 3: couple of conversations back and forth to be like, you know.
- 11:08Speaker 2: What, actually, you know what upset.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I was really sad that you didn't send me, but
- 11:12Speaker 3: like you've got to get there first, and we should
- 11:14Speaker 3: never assume, like, just for an example, I'm not saying
- 11:15Speaker 3: this has happened, but you're pregnant, You've had your beautiful baby.
- 11:19Speaker 1: You're in this beautiful, blissful bubble. She's just miscarried. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 1: she's had a stillborn. She's struggling to get pregnant. She's
- 11:26Speaker 1: in her own hardship right now, so anything to do
- 11:29Speaker 1: with any other babies she can't even fathom. It's too triggering,
- 11:33Speaker 1: too upsetting, and she's just blocking it all out because
- 11:35Speaker 1: that's her way to cope. There's no judgment on that.
- 11:37Speaker 1: We just don't know what someone else might be battling
- 11:39Speaker 1: and going through. So that's why you just never want
- 11:41Speaker 1: to assume the worst in someone. And imagine if that
- 11:44Speaker 1: was the case and then she was like, you know,
- 11:45Speaker 1: I'm so sorry, I just I was really struggling. You
- 11:48Speaker 1: would instantly have more compassion. You'd be like, fuck, damn it,
- 11:50Speaker 1: you know I should have reached out more, or like
- 11:53Speaker 1: not expected that of her. Yeah, it's just a different
- 11:55Speaker 1: perspective to look at.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So much more compassion.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Yes, then you're not blaming or feeling like she did
- 11:59Speaker 3: something on purpose. It's like, oh, wow, she's actually going
- 12:01Speaker 3: through her own thing, and I can resonate with going
- 12:03Speaker 3: through a hardship.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yes, we were trying assume the best in people these days.
- 12:06Speaker 1: It's like, and we've been really trying to work on
- 12:07Speaker 1: this last six months focused. Yeah, and not assume the
- 12:10Speaker 1: worst in our relationships, friendships, family, everyone.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yeah, assuming that the other person always has the best intentions.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It's a nice way to live emotionally. I wish I
- 12:18Speaker 1: learned that a long time ago. Yeah, yeah, definitely, rather
- 12:21Speaker 1: than taking everything so personally.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Yes, guilty, broken on it, admit.
- 12:28Speaker 1: So we hope that helps. Sending you so much love,
- 12:30Speaker 1: Know that you deserve to be reached out to, and
- 12:33Speaker 1: people to make effort with you, love on you, congratulate
- 12:36Speaker 1: you and your baby, you really do.
- 12:38Speaker 3: And also as well, it's also okay if this person
- 12:41Speaker 3: isn't meant to come with you on the journey. Yeah, Like,
- 12:43Speaker 3: I know, it's really easy to get caught up in
- 12:45Speaker 3: attaching to certain people. Yeah, but like if this one
- 12:48Speaker 3: isn't meant for you, and it's clear that it's not
- 12:50Speaker 3: a match for what it is you want. It's like,
- 12:52Speaker 3: oh my gosh, what life is going to show you
- 12:54Speaker 3: in terms of who's going to come into your life
- 12:56Speaker 3: and love on you so hard?
- 12:57Speaker 2: Is going to surprise you and blow you out of
- 12:59Speaker 2: the water.
- 12:59Speaker 1: And even if someone's quote unquote hurt you. And I
- 13:03Speaker 1: can relate to this too because I've had friendship breakdown
- 13:05Speaker 1: in the public eye. Not fun, but I often get
- 13:08Speaker 1: asked like, oh, do you regret helping her? Do you
- 13:10Speaker 1: regret doing that project with her? Do you regret showing
- 13:12Speaker 1: her in your social media? I'm like, absolutely not. In
- 13:15Speaker 1: that time, I gave from a place of love, and
- 13:17Speaker 1: I gave because I loved them. I would never take
- 13:20Speaker 1: that back. And just because our chapter and story close,
