1:48
[SPEAKER_02]: Scott Basis, Patrick drummer, the band have their 20th album, it's a self-title, but it's gold, so of course we call it the gold album, 20th album.
1:58
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to hear about how sitting in a living room together, turn the sessions into a creative birth.
2:02
[SPEAKER_02]: It sounds simple, it's not something that they had done in over 25 or 30 years.
2:08
[SPEAKER_02]: They're also going to get into rejecting the modern obsession with grids and perfection.
2:12
[SPEAKER_02]: developing a stronger base and drum connection.
2:15
[SPEAKER_02]: The self-aware message behind the song CEO, which is kind of a play off of undone the sweaters song, and taking these new songs on the road alongside the shins and a silver sun pickups on their latest tour.
2:27
[SPEAKER_02]: All that and more, it's such a fun talk.
2:29
[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking all about the gold album, it's Kyle Meredith with Scott Schreiner and Patrick Wilson of Weezer.
2:42
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I had I had Brian on here a few years back on the on the on the last albums and I guess he has to see one of those like dual screens and He wasn't aware that the camera was on the other one so our entire interview is actually him doing this right here And I don't know why I don't know why I didn't say something because we're halfway through it before I realized what was going on, you know, and it's like at this point is like I just felt like an asshole of it bringing up so I didn't know you're telling the truth
3:11
[SPEAKER_03]: Hello.
3:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Skull, farmer Scott.
3:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Hello.
3:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Are you in the vineyard?
3:17
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I'm harvesting my great love that we finally got you around to be on the show and Back with back with the gold album and it like it's I think I think people are saying it's it's one of my favorite things that hurt from you guys I'm I'm I like every weezer album guy, but there is something classic about this and it's funny here you guys again But but it comes after some time off maybe the most time off between albums I think we've ever had with the band is that is that right
3:46
[SPEAKER_03]: But it doesn't feel like that does it, Pat?
3:48
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, because we've always, we still have been doing stuff, but maybe we just haven't released.
3:52
[SPEAKER_01]: What was the last thing we even did?
3:54
[SPEAKER_03]: It was the season's EP's.
3:56
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and then we went and worked on some music, but didn't release it, I think.
4:02
[SPEAKER_03]: And then yeah, then we kind of started pre-production for this.
4:05
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, so it was no time for you all, just time for us.
4:09
[SPEAKER_02]: It's funny how perception kind of works that way.
4:11
[SPEAKER_02]: But it was, I mean, there was a minute there, where it's like, you guys have always been sort of a prolific man, but I think even a few years back it was like, holy cow, how many albums do they have coming out over the next?
4:24
[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember sort of the pandemic being a part of that, like you had to push one of the albums that it comes out, you know, whatever,
4:30
[SPEAKER_02]: However you got here is it's it's it's really great to hear you guys again, but But I guess you're answering sort of what I was getting it like this wasn't this it didn't sound like there was a point where you guys said we need to slow our role now
4:46
[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of that time was spent to fooling around making a movie, which I guess for us feels like it's just continuous work, so I don't know how much we're allowed to really say about that, but it was awesome.
5:00
[SPEAKER_01]: But there is a movie.
5:01
[SPEAKER_01]: There is a movie.
5:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Work has been done, but I don't know if product is being created or it's unclear.
5:10
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a very safe way of saying that.
5:12
[SPEAKER_02]: I do a lot of film interviews too, so I understand.
5:16
[SPEAKER_02]: So then let's pivot then just to how we get to this, as I was saying, kind of classic.
5:20
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Patrick, you know, we're talking a second ago, it's got to tell him about Brian being on here a few years back, and then him looking at the wrong monitor, the entire interview.
5:29
[SPEAKER_02]: There was a quote we were talking about, because those seasons records were coming out.
5:39
[SPEAKER_02]: I said or pat said to Pat, okay.
5:42
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he said to Pat that Pat said and correct me if I'm wrong But at some point, Pat, you had mentioned river like Instead of sounding like all these other bands how about we do one that sounds like the guy who wrote say it eight so I I may have said that it sounds very snorkey what coming from but You would happen.
6:03
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you what happened on this record and I credit rivers with this
6:07
[SPEAKER_01]: When we were in the filming, many of this almost every scene didn't have strict dialogue.
6:14
[SPEAKER_01]: It had, hey, this is what has to happen here.
6:18
[SPEAKER_01]: How would you react to this?
6:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Just react like you.
6:22
[SPEAKER_01]: And it went so smoothly and it was so collaborative that
6:27
[SPEAKER_01]: that Rivers was like, hey, you know, I really love this, I really love how everyone's just bringing what they do.
6:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And that turned into us going down to Orange County in Dan Palo, which
6:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't know a couple of times a month, like for many months, making these songs and it was kind of a rebirth in a cool way.
7:08
[SPEAKER_01]: There's a very bottom up, rather than like a top down approach to like creating stuff.
7:14
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's the thing, like if you're a band, if you have the luxury of being a band who gets to, you know, stay in the test of time and keep going for decades on.
7:23
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think, I think with most bands, you hear about how we kind of, you kind of get away from each other a little bit from, from, from these situations.
7:31
[SPEAKER_02]: you know going back to cheese going back to the beetles in the white album and everybody's recording a different rooms and all that stuff you know and then if you're lucky it kind of retracts again and you come back and and Scott I'll throw this one to you like like does it feel different does it feel like you're tapping back into something I mean like to kind of get back to that point like what did that mean what did that feel like well obviously I wasn't around for the beginning of the band so I can't take it back to that
8:00
[SPEAKER_03]: Make believe we had kind of done some playing together, but not everybody was super happy about that so we kind of we kind of separated and we're going to too much detail and then when we got together to do red album we really.
8:15
[SPEAKER_03]: We're, I felt like we were collaborating and I'll coming up with ideas.
8:19
[SPEAKER_03]: But then that turned into a totally different thing.
8:23
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm not going to go into details about that.
8:25
[SPEAKER_03]: That'll be for the, the book someday.
8:29
[SPEAKER_03]: So then we go to a different era and I started not seeing the guys when we were recording as much.
8:36
[SPEAKER_03]: you know, and we did some music, uh, and I'd show up in here this song for the first time and have a certain amount of time to record it before the timer would go off and I'd have to start the next song.
8:48
[SPEAKER_03]: So I've really run through a lot of different ways of doing things that I can speak to.
8:54
[SPEAKER_03]: This time, us all sitting there in a room together,
8:58
[SPEAKER_03]: just kind of you know plan ideas and throwing stuff around.
9:03
[SPEAKER_03]: It was it was very cool.
9:04
[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody was very kind of involved and tuned in and it was super neat.
9:11
[SPEAKER_01]: I want you guys to hear the record right now because I'm so happy with it.
9:17
[SPEAKER_01]: Everything that you've heard, the rest of it is at least that quality.
9:21
[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard the whole thing.
9:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, cool.
9:24
[SPEAKER_02]: You have not.
9:25
[SPEAKER_02]: I've been listening to it all week.
9:26
[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah.
9:27
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
9:28
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what I mean.
9:29
[SPEAKER_02]: When I say, like, I love this record.
9:30
[SPEAKER_02]: I love this whole record.
9:33
[SPEAKER_02]: and it was evident because when when shined again came out, you know, it's like, oh, oh, cool, you know, this, this is, this isn't weasard, you know, this is my classic weasard right here, this is that sound, you know, we're going in.
9:44
[SPEAKER_02]: And what, maybe that's it, like putting the four of you guys in room, the natural sound that comes out.
9:51
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, is this great rock sales?
9:53
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I guess.
9:54
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it just took a minute for everybody to get their head around it.
9:58
[SPEAKER_03]: I think we needed to kind of go way out of this direction.
10:02
[SPEAKER_03]: And then for different people to get their their head space to where they're like, all right, well, maybe, you know, we could work together radical idea.
10:13
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, crazy idea, but I mean, it was great to watch it happen.
10:16
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I mean, like I hear, like I remember the tears were fierce.
10:20
[SPEAKER_02]: They were on here.
10:21
[SPEAKER_02]: They had a record come out a few years ago, and it had been after years of co-writing with producers and the whole thing, and they were like, what if we just wrote together again, like we did?
10:29
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, it's like the best record they've released in 30 years.
10:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, oh, yeah, as it turns out, you guys know what you're doing.
10:37
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I haven't heard it yet, I'll have to check it out.
10:40
[SPEAKER_02]: Take a quick break to remind you that if you're enjoying what you're listening to right now, please do hit that subscribe button wherever you're listening from.
10:46
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back right after this.
10:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back.
10:50
[SPEAKER_03]: It's Kyle, Meredith with Scott and Pat from Weezer.
10:53
[SPEAKER_02]: And Pat, you can't speak to that early thing.
10:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, here you are as the press release says, you know, like the first time you and Rivers had written together, what since the blue album or whatever, like, like, what is it about when you all do set down that this is the sound that comes out?
11:09
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like we sort of had this round table idea where we would sit down and discuss many different facets of, you know, everything we're doing and one of them
11:21
[SPEAKER_01]: one of them was like in that living room in Orange County, people would just throw out what they thought about where the song was, what was going on.
11:30
[SPEAKER_01]: If they had a part, if they had an idea, if a lyric was cringe, if something was, you know, stoking them up, and we got it pretty, pretty far.
11:43
[SPEAKER_01]: But it was important, I think, to have Kenny and Klaus be, you know, like a real, they're real record makers, you know.
11:52
[SPEAKER_01]: It's one thing to be a recordist said this, and it's always stuck with me records from, of course, Epithath, and bad religion.
11:59
[SPEAKER_01]: He said, we're just the biggest indie band in the world.
12:03
[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like that's where we get to in the litter, where it's like, yeah, a lot of gems, a lot of diamonds in the rough.
12:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And then we have to go bang something out under a straight schedule, where there's a little bit of pressure, and more minds come in.
12:22
[SPEAKER_01]: And if there's chemistry there, it's fantastic.
12:26
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what you hear on the record.
12:28
[SPEAKER_02]: Where did I brought it up?
12:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Where did it come?
12:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Because China again was China again and I don't believe nowhere where the ones that's credited to you like your songs, right?
12:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Like were they put together in the room is that something, do you bring those in?
12:40
[SPEAKER_01]: I had, yeah, like I had a couple demos and they were kind of different, like a lot of synths.
12:49
[SPEAKER_01]: But still kind of like, imagine if I thought of it as if Gary Newman was a weaser.
12:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And not that I'm, you know, planning this out is just, that's what I wanted to be here.
13:00
[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually feel like the whole thing, nobody sat down and said, okay, you and I, we're going to co-write.
13:08
[SPEAKER_01]: This is what we're going to do.
13:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Like it just flowered into this thing, which I think all the best things did to me.
13:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Scott was right next to me the whole time in the,
13:18
[SPEAKER_01]: in the living room, playing, and that somehow I think we became a better rhythm section then.
13:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And I told him yesterday, or her house, I was like, yeah, do we're playing together?
13:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it sounds good.
13:30
[SPEAKER_02]: That's literally what I was about to ask, because when we hear about, you know, it's like, bass player and drummer locking him with each other.
13:38
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it sounds like this was a different level of that.
13:41
[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe this is too inside baseball for me, spoke or whatever, but when I first joined the band, I was just like, all right, Pat, me and you, like, let's lock in, we're a team.
13:50
[SPEAKER_03]: And you're just like, all right, let me move this symbol, like right here, like, okay, cool, wait, wait, wait, okay, wait, so he just wasn't.
13:59
[SPEAKER_03]: He just wasn't like, he's like, I just need rivers and my kick drum, you know what I mean?
14:04
[SPEAKER_03]: But he can hear me because I have all, I'm like the guy with all the cabinets on stage.
14:09
[SPEAKER_03]: There doesn't need me in his mix.
14:11
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like part of the drum riser basically.
14:15
[SPEAKER_03]: So I felt like for a while he was just kind of like, uh, like, but then lately, uh,
14:21
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and lately, we've been communicating and coming together and really playing like a kind of rhythm section that I have always wanted us to be.
14:31
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you find that one of you follows the other more so than the other?
14:34
[SPEAKER_03]: I think I learned that the best formula is for the drummer to follow the singer who's the main guitar player.
14:42
[SPEAKER_03]: right and go off a in between the vocal phrases and his timing and where he's feeling stuff and it's kind of my job to get in and like support the guitar player like with chords and notes but then like support the drums by playing after them.
15:00
[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
15:03
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a little bit inside, but that really is working great.
15:06
[SPEAKER_03]: Like me and him can't get all into some kind of crazy, like grateful debt experiment and leave rivers up there, singing on his own.
15:15
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it has to be synced.
15:17
[SPEAKER_03]: So it makes this L, you know, that's a real powerful force, I believe.
15:24
[SPEAKER_02]: And then leave, go ahead.
15:26
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I was just gonna make a joke and then leave Brian to do whatever's left at the end.
15:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
15:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he has his own angle on everything that's like super important, but
15:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I think what happened on this record is the way records use to be made, which is it's everyone's job to keep the time.
15:45
[SPEAKER_01]: And like the way a phrase is sung with a certain feel is unconscious, however, but he just kind of gets with it and they find the musicality of it versus what I hear today, which I
16:01
[SPEAKER_01]: hate, which is just grid, grid and tune, and everything is perfect, but it's incorrect.
16:10
[SPEAKER_01]: it sucks.
16:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't ever want to make a record like that again.
16:15
[SPEAKER_01]: People don't care that listen to it for three seconds.
16:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's pretty good.
16:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And then they'll never think about it again.
16:21
[SPEAKER_01]: This record's got a feel.
16:24
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's not sloppy.
16:26
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's bombastic, but not messy.
16:29
[SPEAKER_01]: It's crack.
16:30
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:30
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I agree.
16:32
[SPEAKER_02]: It's got dirt on it.
16:33
[SPEAKER_02]: It's got some rougher
16:36
[SPEAKER_03]: So counter-intuitive, like we're not a pop band, and then I don't think we sound that good when we all play right on the beat, and it's all very mapped out.
16:45
[SPEAKER_03]: Like it takes away the best parts of the group.
16:49
[SPEAKER_03]: And I'll add Brian as like, if there's an L, then he's that top branch up there, you know what I mean?
16:56
[SPEAKER_03]: And it does, it's a real, you know, important structure.
17:01
[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't mean to make you feel guilty.
17:03
[SPEAKER_03]: I just don't know.
17:03
[SPEAKER_03]: I was just thinking rhythm section.
17:05
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, obviously.
17:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I bring it up because I want to hear more of that in the records that we hear.
17:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Everything we hear now is a dance beat.
17:14
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like kind of...
17:16
[SPEAKER_01]: some soothing dance, old.
17:21
[SPEAKER_01]: And let's go back to people playing and why they're playing is important.
17:28
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm not talking about speeding up and slowing down a little, but I'm definitely on great now, who's shaking his fist at the sky, but it's all through.
17:37
[SPEAKER_02]: It is all too.
17:38
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you could what trace of I'm sure you could trace it back further, but it's like the moment.
17:43
[SPEAKER_02]: Protols came in and suddenly, you know, digital takes over, and you can, you can smooth out any mistake and, and every artist who,
17:52
[SPEAKER_02]: because it's the way fans listen to a record versus the way the artist hears the work that was done on that record.
17:58
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you had the greatest records of all time, but the person who made it will hear the mistakes, but those mistakes are what made them special for the listener, you know, the way they were in Seattle.
18:09
[SPEAKER_01]: They were in Seattle and the song was killer and it didn't matter.
18:15
[SPEAKER_01]: It was charming.
18:16
[SPEAKER_02]: Right, so you guys like you allow yourselves to leave those in like do you still hear those on this record?
18:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Where you go?
18:23
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, let's we did have a Swedish producer, but thank god Kenny was there to rough it up a little bit You know what I mean?
18:32
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that was really cool to have both of them because because clouds is way more precise and polished and Kenny is is a little bit more violent and wild, so it was it it was a good good combination
18:45
[SPEAKER_01]: It was perfect.
18:46
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a combination.
18:47
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, like, an eno landmark type of, uh, I don't know if that's the right parallel actually.
18:52
[SPEAKER_02]: They're both sort of in the same lane.
18:53
[SPEAKER_02]: Can't forget that.
18:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, I don't have a better example, though.
18:55
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, these two dudes were in very different lanes, and that kind of worked for us.
19:00
[SPEAKER_02]: So, and I'm trying not to really force a, you know, round pack in the square hole here when I ask it, but because it sounds like everything's happened very natural, but knowing that you all just come off the blue anniversary tour and knowing you always have that sect of the fans who are like, oh, I miss that sound.
19:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Like this does feel like it delivers a little bit of that.
19:21
[SPEAKER_02]: Like at this point, is there still pressure in the history at all?
19:25
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, do you, do you, is there any fan service that comes along with it?
19:28
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so, man.
19:30
[SPEAKER_01]: I think whatever the energy was, the way it expressed itself in the day, like on the blue album or a paper tin or anything, that's just musical validity.
19:41
[SPEAKER_01]: And you can have new kinds of something that's valid.
19:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't really feel like shine again is super weasery.
19:51
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's familiar enough.
19:53
[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a step in a direction.
19:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's good enough to call it, okay, it's Lisa, it's fine.
20:00
[SPEAKER_02]: Take a quick break to remind you that if you're enjoying what you're listening to right now, please do hit that subscribe button wherever you're listening from.
20:07
[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back right after this.
20:10
[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back, it's Kyle Meredith with Scott and Pat from Weezer.
20:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Since we're on that, though, that's, that is a good segment over because you got the song CEO, and that does find that meta moment, like how did that song come about?
20:23
[SPEAKER_01]: I have no info, what do you have, Scott?
20:27
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, I think, I mean, it's always been, it just, you know, it gets tiring like the press cycle and then it's like, oh, we're returns to form.
20:35
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I mean, that was there for the White Album, you know, people talked about it with okay human.
20:42
[SPEAKER_03]: It's just like, I think it, finally, it just from what I've heard from rivers, he's just like, oh, you want that?
20:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Then here's this, like this is my answer, kind of to that.
20:53
[SPEAKER_03]: But you'd have to ask rivers, I can't speak for him.
20:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, in that vein, you could say that it's very meta.
21:01
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well, I didn't hear it at first, but people are like, oh, it's the same structure as undone, undone, right?
21:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, isolation from the solo or everything.
21:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Which is odd because I still, I don't really consider those two songs the same at all.
21:16
[SPEAKER_01]: They're very different and vibe.
21:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And CEO is like kind of like an examination of
21:22
[SPEAKER_01]: this thing that he's talking about about, you know, like, it's been looking back and thinking about what people want, but it's great because he transcends that and creates something that's cool.
21:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So I would say who does to him?
21:38
[SPEAKER_03]: That's interesting, it's from feels really different playing that totally, CEO, and it is the same structure, and I'm playing like downstroke, three-cored, like rock, you know, with no fields or licks.
21:54
[SPEAKER_03]: and it has the modulation and yet it feels completely different than plan on done.
22:00
[SPEAKER_03]: But you get the talking thing.
22:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Bands always come in the studio and they say, oh, we're going to be different.
22:06
[SPEAKER_01]: This demon Albaran said this one.
22:08
[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, oh, no, no, this time we're going to break all the rules.
22:12
[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to do this and then it comes out of the kind of sound like you and, you know, you think you're going to do that, but I'm like, you're just you at the end of the day.
22:20
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, that's, that's the, there has to be, well, I'd say there has to be, but, uh, but that's what words consistency does work.
22:27
[SPEAKER_02]: you know, like, like, you know, we sort of like, we signed up for Weezer as fans.
22:32
[SPEAKER_02]: So to a certain degree, we hope for Weezer as well.
22:34
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like if you want the same album every time, you should be fans of ACDC or something.
22:39
[SPEAKER_03]: Not if it's the same album, but if you want a certain thing that you know what's gonna happen when you put it on and a new record comes out, there's other bands that do that and are amazing.
22:48
[SPEAKER_03]: And I'd even pay to go see them.
22:50
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I like that.
22:53
[SPEAKER_03]: from record to record, we move around and branch out a little bit.
22:57
[SPEAKER_03]: So it's like when, you know, paths like a bigger ziplin fan than me, even, but like every album has a completely kind of different vibe.
23:06
[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
23:06
[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with that.
23:07
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good idea.
23:08
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's, I think it's super important and there's days I feel like listening to into the outdoor and there's days I feel like listening to that, let's up on three.
23:18
[SPEAKER_03]: So my favorite band's Pink Floyd's, Zeppelin, really different from Malm to Album.
23:23
[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, if we can stay, I think we found a good formula, if we can stay kind of at our core together, then we can, you know, kind of branch out and mess around a little bit.
23:33
[SPEAKER_03]: But we just, you know, we've gotten a little bit too far down the road on some other things, maybe.
23:38
[SPEAKER_02]: But even those moments, and I guess that to your point too, it's like, because I completely agree with you on Zeppelin and Floyd, but the commonality still somehow exists.
23:47
[SPEAKER_02]: Those albums could be wildly different, but you can still hear it and go, that's Zeppelin.
23:52
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's that.
23:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like any genre is the same band as emotional rescue.
24:00
[SPEAKER_01]: But it's wildly different, right?
24:03
[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, here's what we did.
24:06
[SPEAKER_01]: We finally got our fucking mission statement together.
24:10
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what happened.
24:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, let's just work together.
24:14
[SPEAKER_01]: That's what happened.
24:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
24:16
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, thank goodness.
24:18
[SPEAKER_02]: And then you take it out on tour.
24:19
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's the gathering tour.
24:20
[SPEAKER_02]: And you got the shins and the silver sun pickups.
24:23
[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to be with you guys.
24:24
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's fun.
24:25
[SPEAKER_02]: Strategic booking?
24:27
[SPEAKER_02]: Or, I mean, was there a reason?
24:28
[SPEAKER_02]: Any, I mean, is there any story behind why those two bands?
24:31
[SPEAKER_01]: I guess you're always trying to find a cool, you know, three, three bands to go out that is a package makes, you know, a cool idea.
24:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's how it felt again at this time.
24:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I was stoked.
24:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh, I like both these bands, so that's great.
24:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Something you're actually watch while you're getting ready.
24:50
[SPEAKER_01]: When we first started way back in the day.
24:53
[SPEAKER_01]: I remember we toured with lush and I every night would watch them and be so blown away I was like like so in love with that.
25:03
[SPEAKER_01]: It was incredible.
25:05
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean what they they I know they had a anniversary thing.
25:07
[SPEAKER_02]: That was what there was an I guess an anniversary release just came up that's a reminder Yeah, um, are you all rehearsing all of the songs is that it is I don't know.
25:15
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, every research song We've ever done where rehearsing so we get together every day at 8 a.m. And we start cracking through them songs
25:24
[SPEAKER_01]: We start with Can't Stop Partying.
25:26
[SPEAKER_01]: We just, that's like, happy.
25:29
[SPEAKER_03]: And then I love the USA.
25:31
[SPEAKER_03]: It's usually second.
25:32
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to be a good way to start your day.
25:34
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, we've picked, I think, a really cool set list.
25:40
[SPEAKER_03]: And we're kind of focusing on a few kind of autobals, as well.
25:47
[SPEAKER_02]: because that's it for like again for as big as your all's catalog is you know not just the albums the besides whatever like I mean what a wealth that you get to choose from but at the same time it's like holy cow like how do you represent everything and I'm sure you all have like we've never played that let that be fun to do or something like we just talked about the other day because it felt like for a minute we were kind of
26:12
[SPEAKER_03]: looking at the two doors like okay legacy act you can play the same set and you can play these kind of places you know or you can you know be real insistent on playing songs off your last two or three albums you know when we talked about it before it's like
26:32
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, well, there's a couple of albums we're not representing, you know, I wish if we can play three hours and take a break in the middle of that beat super fun.
26:40
[SPEAKER_03]: But we have to make a decision and we're all excited about playing songs up to new records.
26:44
[SPEAKER_03]: So I just, you know, I like,
26:47
[SPEAKER_03]: and now we're going to play our new album in its entirety, you know, it's, it's, it's great.
26:54
[SPEAKER_03]: We're trying to do it all, you know, but what I feel like we're very much still vital in our new music is really important and the songs are great, so I'm glad people are excited about it because you're going to be hearing some of that music.
27:07
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, to still be a band that was at term like, it's an event.
27:11
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I still feel like when there's a new Weezer album, it's an event.
27:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, like, and it's cross-generational, you know, like my teenage son and his friends are Weezer fans just as much as me and, you know, and all of my friends.
27:26
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's incredible that you guys still do that, and it still feels like that.
27:30
[SPEAKER_02]: So congratulations, the goal of the album is,
27:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Fucking rad.
27:35
[SPEAKER_02]: Great.
27:36
[SPEAKER_03]: I can love it.
27:37
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go.
27:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Scott Pat, thank you so much for taking the time.
