Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to Performance Driven Living, the podcast where we question everything.
- 0:05We don't tip to around tough topics, we walk right into them, not to provoke, but to
- 0:11get closer to what's real.
- 0:13You might not agree with everything you hear, and that's okay.
- 0:17The show isn't about being right, it's about being real.
- 0:20These conversations are meant to stretch your thinking, challenge assumptions, and spark
- 0:25something deeper.
- 0:26The views shared are those of our guests and may not reflect those of the host or team.
- 0:32And while we dive deep into health, performance, and transformation, this is not medical advice.
- 0:38Talk to your doctor before making changes to your health or lifestyle.
- 0:42Take what lands, leave what doesn't, but whatever you do, don't stop questioning.
- 0:56We are here on the Performance Driven Living podcast, and I could not be happier to introduce
- 1:00you to my friend, J.J. Virgin.
- 1:02Now, J.J., I always say this, that when they put all my notes here together, they put
- 1:07down the most beautiful introductions of somebody, so don't be offended.
- 1:10I knew it, nor it.
- 1:11Read this.
- 1:12No, but this I read, because I could never say the things in the ways that they do.
- 1:14All right, let's hear.
- 1:15I'm going to read this.
- 1:16They've said, today's guest is a household name in health information, J.J. Virgin.
- 1:23She is a four times New York Times best-selling author, celebrity nutrition and fitness
- 1:28expert, and the founder of Reignite Wellness, J.J.'s dedicated her life to helping people
- 1:34lose weight, regain energy, and thrive, and she does it all with science, strategy, and
- 1:39soul.
- 1:40Wow.
- 1:41I know, right?
- 1:42They write these intros.
- 1:43Like, literally, like the first couple of times, they write it, or did chat GPT write
- 1:48it?
- 1:49It's probably a combination.
- 1:50They're guessing that there's a combination there, but it's like, there's enough information
- 1:53about you on the internet, the chat GPT could get a good, good grief.
- 1:55Got the soul in there.
- 1:56That's interesting.
- 1:57Can soul, right?
- 1:58Do you use that word?
- 1:59Never.
- 2:00Oh, well, maybe this is a new thing.
- 2:01There you go, though.
- 2:02Well, J.J., I think I'm so thrilled to have you here, and thank you so much, and I
- 2:06know we actually recently met, which is kind of funny.
- 2:08Yeah.
- 2:09I absolutely love that, and we've had a few chats back and forth on that.
- 2:13But having you here today is amazing, and our format here, I'm just going to tell
- 2:17you, like, the goal of our podcast is literally that I just want to learn something.
- 2:21Like, I just believe in being a better version of myself tomorrow than I was today.
- 2:26And getting on this podcast is an opportunity for me to just get industry leaders and experts
- 2:30together who can make me better.
- 2:32And then, vicariously, other people get that exact same information, right?
- 2:36And you are clearly a leader in your space, and I would say people refer to you, and I
- 2:42don't know if you know this, but they call you like a female Dave Aspery.
- 2:46Oh, he's the, he's them.
- 2:48So the funniest part is Dave and I, you know, we go way back.
- 2:54So Dave actually took his coffee.
- 2:56This is the first time we brought it out to an event, to the Mindshare event.
- 3:00And he was in the back making coffee, and he ran out, and everyone got upset.
- 3:04This was like in the way, way back.
- 3:06That's so fun.
- 3:07And Dave and I decided we kind of, he walked my mom down the aisle, but Dave is actually
- 3:12my mother in another life.
- 3:15Which is hilarious.
- 3:17So Dave is not the mother of biohacker, so he's the father of biohacking for everybody,
- 3:24but you, that's so funny, but I'm not a biohacker.
- 3:28So I don't know how I'm the, the female Dave and Dave, that's true, but like you're bent
- 3:32towards health education.
- 3:34I mean, it depends on how you think of biohacking.
- 3:38You know, I look at and go, well, was I an original one or what is really the term of
- 3:42it?
- 3:43Well, a lot of the biohacking stuff when I go, I feel like a lot of people are majoring
- 3:47in minors and missing the majors.
- 3:49And I 100, can I get a man?
- 3:52Yeah, you will.
- 3:53Absolutely.
- 3:54Get an amen on it, because you know, just now I was walking the floor downstairs a minute
- 3:57ago, and we're here at the Dave Aspery Biohacking Conference.
- 4:00So we got to give some credit to Dave here.
- 4:02Oh, we love ourselves some Dave.
- 4:03We love to.
- 4:04Absolutely.
- 4:05I love Dave.
- 4:06So we were down, I did a lap around the floor when during a break time that we had
- 4:09and Dave Korsonsky, you'll enjoy this.
- 4:12You know, Dave, it heads up house.
- 4:14And he's like, oh, we're doing some things here.
- 4:16Grab a microphone, Mark, tell me like, what is two things?
- 4:18You know, first of all, what is the most, what is the best biohack you're enjoying lately?
- 4:23Sleep.
- 4:24You know what?
- 4:25I said, I said fasting.
- 4:27And sleep is actually the one I normally get to people.
- 4:30And he's just like, you know, what's the biohack you're enjoying most lately?
- 4:32And I'm like, honestly, I'm going to go with fasting.
- 4:35And he kind of looked at me, because I think he's probably waiting for it.
- 4:38It's like calling a mortal.
- 4:40It's this supplement and whatever.
- 4:41I'm like, it's literally just fasting.
- 4:43I'm like, in the good news, is it doesn't cost it?
- 4:45Yeah.
- 4:46In fact, I just saved $104,000 on the a mortal and it has said it's money, in fact.
- 4:51And I'm like, no, because your body knows how to do what it knows how to do if you just
- 4:56provide the right environments for it.
- 4:57And I think biohackers, by and large, I hate the word biohacking, but I have to use it
- 5:01because we're at Dave's conference right now.
- 5:04The word biohacking, I think to some people, has a negative connotation because it's like,
- 5:08it's this and this tack and this supplement.
- 5:10I love the tack and I love the supplements and stuff.
- 5:13But to your point, they're winning on the minors and losing on the mails.
- 5:16Yeah.
- 5:17Yeah.
- 5:18Sleep.
- 5:19Diet.
- 5:20Exorcism.
- 5:21So here's the funny thing.
- 5:22New Year's Eve.
- 5:23We were having a big birthday party for David Prometer.
- 5:25It was the 70th birthday.
- 5:26And so we're sitting out on this beautiful boat dock, black tie on a boat dock.
- 5:30It's awesome.
- 5:31I'm sitting next to this guy and he's telling me about how he went to Mark Hyman's event
- 5:34and this.
- 5:35And he went to the YPO blah, blah, blah, and all these things.
- 5:38That's amazing.
- 5:39That's so cool that you're doing all this longevity stuff.
- 5:42What do you do for exercise?
- 5:45Uh-huh.
- 5:46Wait.
- 5:47I'm like, wait.
- 5:48He goes, well, a couple days ago, I did five minutes of yoga on the, and I'm like, all
- 5:54right.
- 5:55So.
- 5:56Right.
- 5:57So you're losing his muscle mass.
- 5:58This means you're aging faster.
- 5:59I even should.
- 6:00But I'm glad you went to Mark's retreat.
- 6:02That's great.
- 6:03Yes.
- 6:04And that's the stuff that kills me.
- 6:05And it's like, and I laugh because like we're here at the Biohacking Conference and you'll
- 6:09laugh at this because I'm a, I'm a crazy hit guy like I go to my hit gym every day.
- 6:13Like that's part of my ritual.
- 6:15But I'm also in the midst of a 75 hard right now.
- 6:17I'm sure you're familiar with that.
- 6:18And that's painful.
- 6:19Like I hate it.
- 6:20But it's like yesterday we wrapped up what we were doing here and I'm like, ah, there's
- 6:24still a half hour hour on the floor and I'm like, no, I'm going to the gym.
- 6:27Yeah.
- 6:28Like there's a Barry's boot camp up the road here and I'm like, and I walk to the Barry's
- 6:31boot camp to do a workout and then walk back in the rain, but walk back to the hotel before
- 6:37doing anything.
- 6:38I'm like, I'm not going to go run around the floor talking about Biohacking and looking
- 6:42for new supplements.
- 6:43Yeah.
- 6:44If I'm not just taking care of the basics.
- 6:45Exactly.
- 6:46It is why literally like we got here at late last nights of all the weather.
- 6:51Yeah.
- 6:52But we have two.
- 6:53I travel.
- 6:54I've gone for two weeks.
- 6:55I have two big suitcases and a carry on because I have my stuff with me, you know, and I
- 6:59have workout stuff and a coffee maker and supplements.
- 7:03I've got my katsu bands in the next room.
- 7:04Yeah.
- 7:05You got to have everything.
- 7:06So I'm like, I am not going to be on the road and miss my sleep, miss my work.
- 7:09No, I'm not going to do it.
- 7:10Oh, no.
- 7:11My katsu bands travel with me so that if I can't get in a work, I can at least get in
- 7:15some blood restriction like I laugh because I have a my carry on.
- 7:19I actually check because literally one half of my carry on is just bottles of supplements
- 7:23and all this other kind of stuff.
- 7:25Like, I'm not going to go, I often spend like two weeks away from home.
- 7:29Like, I've got one suitcase per clothes.
- 7:32Yeah.
- 7:33No, there's your case.
- 7:34Oh, I'm here.
- 7:35Like, I had half of one suitcase was closed.
- 7:37That's it.
- 7:38The rest of it is all this stuff.
- 7:40Absolutely.
- 7:41Yeah.
- 7:42And the truth about it is, is like, I'm not giving up on that kind of stuff just because
- 7:44I'm on the road.
- 7:45And what's funny is, you know, and I, this is probably not funny, but maybe it's funny.
- 7:50And it's like, I was a person who struggled with my weight for most of my younger life.
- 7:54And my life, let me say, I'm turning 50 in a couple of weeks and probably, and that's
- 7:57the best.
- 7:58That's the thing.
- 7:59It's a me.
- 8:00There's a little, I don't know if it's so much for guys as it is for women because I'm
- 8:03not a guy.
- 8:04So I don't know.
- 8:05So, you know, but like when there's something happens at 50, where you're like, I really
- 8:10don't care.
- 8:11I love you don't.
- 8:12I, 40, I did not love, I was, but I was going through really hard stuff at 40.
- 8:17I loved 50.
- 8:18I loved 60.
- 8:20So, you know, like, well, I'm looking forward to fantastic, but 50 is partly because when
- 8:25I tell people in 50, I love the reactions that I get from it because normally I'll be
- 8:29like, I'm turning 50 and people was like, like, what?
- 8:31And like, thank you.
- 8:32That's all that matters.
- 8:33I don't even care that you believe it.
- 8:34I just want to know that you didn't guess it.
- 8:37It's always you didn't guess it.
- 8:39Something's going right.
- 8:40His wild though, when you look at people and it starts at about 40, where all of a sudden,
- 8:45you know, you remember in your 20s and 30s, like there were the people that were eating
- 8:48crap and, you know, going out all night and you're doing all the good stuff, you know,
- 8:53like, oh, why do you look so much better than me?
- 8:55All of a sudden, the whole thing flips at 40 and those people now look at them like,
- 8:59oh, wait a minute, you're at the same age as me and you literally look 10 to 15 years
- 9:03older.
- 9:04Oh, I, there is not a single.
- 9:05I was talking with my dad about this the other day.
- 9:07My dad is 68 and just sent a Guinness record for being the oldest rookie year race car driver
- 9:13because like, and I, and I told him, I'm like, you are the reason I have no concept of
- 9:18age because I actually was raised by my grandmother and my grandmother was old at 40.
- 9:23Yeah, my mom was old.
- 9:25I was adopted.
- 9:26My, my adopted mom and dad were so old.
- 9:28Yeah.
- 9:29So young.
- 9:30And well, and it's crazy.
- 9:31And my mom died at 62 and I mean, psychologically believed that she was done and don't get me into
- 9:38the whole psychoneural immunology conversation about speaking death over yourself and
- 9:43yourself.
- 9:44I was so true.
- 9:45I mean, it's like it's no less than like when my son got hit and he was dead on the pavement,
- 9:49we're like, oh, no, you're going to be 110 percent.
- 9:51You are going to absolutely like the doctors like he's got a point zero, one, two, five percent
- 9:55chance he'd make it.
- 9:56We're like, cool, not zero, you know, like we're like, yeah, prove the doctors wrong.
- 10:00It's like, you know, that's just thoughts create your perception of reality, like I completely
- 10:07am on the you create your reality.
- 10:10So if you think you're dying to succeed, you, that's why he's, you know, I think you're
- 10:12like, these, you know, when you hear someone getting diagnosed with cancer and given
- 10:17X amount of time to live in them, that's what they got, you know, 100 percent.
- 10:22And I think it's like people live in that way.
- 10:24And I've even found myself lately, like I'm just on this weird path right now.
- 10:27I don't even know what's going on in my head anymore.
- 10:29But I don't even know what happens if you feel like it's just happening.
- 10:32But like this whole idea, like, you know, it's like I'm dead, like that's the funniest
- 10:36thing I'm dead.
- 10:37And I'm like, and I found myself not even being willing to use those words anymore.
- 10:41Like I'm not even going to tell you you're killing me.
- 10:44Like you say something really funny and I'm like, you're killing me.
- 10:46And I'm like, I don't even want to use those words anymore.
- 10:49Like I, I will find alternatives.
- 10:50Like I will go to reactively say those things.
- 10:52I'm like, no, I'm not saying those words.
- 10:54It's, I think of a friend of mine who was always battling his weight.
- 10:59Remember once we're somewhere and he goes, I am starving out of my mind.
- 11:03I mean, you might want to watch your framing there as you create an hunger and starving
- 11:08out of my mind.
- 11:10And it is and it's and it's people create that.
- 11:12And especially I'll say with the with the declaration, the identity statements,
- 11:16the I am's, you know, not to go too far off on a rabbit trail.
- 11:21But like the I am diabetic, I am this and I am that.
- 11:25And I'm like, oh my gosh, can we can we knock that off because and I was on a podcast.
- 11:31I was the guest on Luke's stories podcast.
- 11:33Oh, yeah, I did, I did Luke's, did you?
- 11:36Yes, I did.
- 11:37This is Luke and I just throw man's down for a while like we had a great time.
- 11:41And we got into this whole conversation.
- 11:43I'm like, Luke, if I were to just right now shout duck.
- 11:47And I'm like, let me walk you through just some of what's going on and like your pupils
- 11:52die late.
- 11:53You move into a sympathetic nervous system.
- 11:54Now you they're thinking duck and I was thinking of a duck.
- 11:57That's hilarious because people said that.
- 11:58But if I were like duck, I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:03well, they're in a row.
- 12:06I mean, if I were to scream duck or something like that, like you would immediately flinch,
- 12:09I would tense your muscles, your pupils would die late, your digestive system would slow.
- 12:13You'd go into a sympathetic nervous response, like, and I went through all this kind of
- 12:16stuff.
- 12:17And I'm like, that's the power of one word from me.
- 12:20Like imagine the power that your words and like I created physiological changes in your
- 12:24body from one word that I said.
- 12:27Now imagine what your cells are dealing with every single day with the things that you're
- 12:31saying to them.
- 12:32And we speak to ourselves so harshly, but like I agree with you, like and I hate to say
- 12:36it's the name and claimant kind of culture, but I choose to live in the world where anything
- 12:41is possible because it doesn't cost any extra, right?
- 12:44Like there's zero cost of admission to just believe that anything's possible.
- 12:48I know.
- 12:49What's going to happen like this?
- 12:50You know, I remember with my son, they're like, oh, you know, I'll never make it.
- 12:53I go, well, let's let's believe there's going to be 110% and prove it.
- 12:57What's because if he fails and he gets to 90, we win, you know, whatever it is here,
- 13:03we're going to win.
- 13:04We're going to win this round 100%.
- 13:05Yeah.
- 13:06Do you mind sharing that story?
- 13:07Because I don't know that I mean, a lot of people know that story, but that really is
- 13:10the trigger that got you on your path to be honest with you know, there's been so many
- 13:14trigger.
- 13:15You know, everyone looks for that catalyst.
- 13:16I'm like, what if there's like just lots of catalysts and I actually was thinking about
- 13:19the other day.
- 13:20Just twist all of it.
- 13:21You know, like, like is anyone's road to success this road?
- 13:25No.
- 13:26I'm going to choose those backwards.
- 13:28Yeah.
- 13:29But I realized there was a common theme to all of it that I just figured out.
- 13:35Of course, I'll probably figure out something else, even, you know, like from 12 lifetimes
- 13:40ago.
- 13:41But I was always the tallest kid in class, shocking.
- 13:45Yeah.
- 13:46And as a young girl, that sucks, right?
- 13:49Yeah.
- 13:50However, it was also the like kind of the protector of all my girlfriend's bully too.
- 13:55But because I was the young, the tallest girl, I had to be on the boys' teams because
- 13:59we didn't have enough boys.
- 14:01So I was always on the boys' teams growing up.
- 14:03And then when I went to high school, they had a really great gym for the boys, squat,
- 14:10rack, bench press.
- 14:11We did not have that in the girls, no girls gym, right?
- 14:15And so I was like, I want to go over there with the high school football players in play
- 14:18because that's what I was used to.
- 14:19You were used to playing with the boys, yeah.
- 14:21But what I realized is doing all of that, being on the boys' teams and being in the boys,
- 14:28you know, weight room, I learned how to do hard things.
- 14:32And if you believe that the way you do one thing is the way you do everything, and you
- 14:36know that if you are doing hard things, you're training your, you know, you're making
- 14:40new neurons, saying, I can do hard things.
- 14:43It changes everything.
- 14:45And so I really think that part of what happened when my son got hit, my son was, I don't
- 14:50know, I like to say the victor of a hit and run, you know, as my ex hasn't says, you
- 14:55know, grant one car zero, you know, but he was hit by a car.
- 15:01We don't know really, it seems like maybe going 30, 40 miles an hour in neighbor saw the
- 15:06woman get out of her car, gasp, see him on the ground and take off.
- 15:11And so, you know, he was airlifted to the local hospital.
- 15:15He had multiple brain bleeds.
- 15:16He was in a deep coma, like the highest coma score.
- 15:20He was 13 fractures, but the problem, the real challenge was that he had a thorny aura.
- 15:27And that was what Princess Diana died of, and it was going to rupture.
- 15:31And what Dr. basically told us when we got there was sometime in the next 24 hours, it
- 15:35will rupture every hour, this is what he's saying, every hour, the chance it's going to
- 15:39rupture increases by 10%.
- 15:40All right.
- 15:42All right.
- 15:43Now, I was like, what your math doesn't work.
- 15:46So we're looking at him and my son Bryce, who's literally getting his PhD in math right
- 15:50now.
- 15:51It's amazing.
- 15:52It's looking at this doctor.
- 15:53And, you know, I've taught my sons to be, you know, question authority respectfully,
- 15:59but question it.
- 16:00You're like, you know, question.
- 16:02So Bryce is looking at this doctor who's saying this stupid stuff and he's like, huh,
- 16:07so like maybe a point one, two, five percent chance he could make it in the doctor's
- 16:10house.
- 16:11Yes.
- 16:12He goes, not zero.
- 16:13I love that.
- 16:15That's not zero.
- 16:16What was the movie?
- 16:17So you're saying there's a chance.
- 16:18Yeah.
- 16:19That's Jim Carrier.
- 16:20Yeah.
- 16:21Yeah.
- 16:22So you're saying there's a chance.
- 16:24And that was just it.
- 16:25So we were like, and the other funny part was, was Grant's dad was a medical malpractice
- 16:31trial attorney in his former life when he actually worked because when he met me, he decided
- 16:35he didn't want to work anymore.
- 16:36I was like, that's interesting.
- 16:37That's right.
- 16:38Okay.
- 16:39Anyhow, so he just started using some verbiage to make the doctor actually do something.
- 16:44So we overruled the doctor and got him airlifted to the next hospital.
- 16:49And when he got airlift to this next hospital, he survived the airlift, which doctors say
- 16:53wasn't going to do.
- 16:54Then he survived the surgery.
- 16:55We get to this hospital.
- 16:56It's Harbor UCLA.
- 16:58We walk in number two trauma center in the country.
- 17:01And it is game on in there.
- 17:03We walk in.
- 17:04There are five surgical teams in there.
- 17:06There's a doctor who got called at 2 a.m.
- 17:08He got a stint from flown in from somewhere that they've been using and they were no longer
- 17:13even available.
- 17:14He goes, I got it.
- 17:15It was supposed to be used for adults, but we'll ask for forgiveness.
- 17:18You know, I just, he was like, you know, going to do what he was going to do.
- 17:22How old was he?
- 17:23He said six.
- 17:24Grant was 16.
- 17:25Okay.
- 17:26And I remember the doctor said, listen, I do this all the time.
- 17:29Do not worry.
- 17:30I had someone thrown off an overpass last week and we fixed him up.
- 17:33It's easy.
- 17:34I'll come get you in a couple hours to tell you it's fine.
- 17:37I'm like, okay.
- 17:38Cool.
- 17:39I'm going to have a cup of coffee.
- 17:40I went up.
- 17:41I had a blog do for, you know, something I was doing.
- 17:45And I was like, I'll go get my stuff done.
- 17:47So the wild thing is so we're sitting up in this waiting room.
- 17:51I was going to call it a green room.
- 17:52It was not a green room.
- 17:53It was not his studio.
- 17:54I didn't tell a lot of TV back then.
- 17:56So I was sitting up there.
- 17:58And so we're sitting up there.
- 17:59And later on, like months later, Grant told me, he goes, you know, number when you and
- 18:04dad were sitting in the waiting room and dad was wearing that red shirt, like John had
- 18:10changed from the time, like, he didn't know what John, like he described where we were,
- 18:14what we're doing, how we're seeing.
- 18:16He was in a studio.
- 18:17He was like in the surgical suite.
- 18:18I'm like, okay.
- 18:19I mean, the stuff he told us after the fact would give you chills of what he knew.
- 18:26So they're almost out of body kind of.
- 18:28It's completely out of body experiences.
- 18:30Anyhow, the doctor comes in and goes, hey, all right, it's all fixed, it's all fine.
- 18:38You're good.
- 18:39Now, I don't know if I'll ever wake up.
- 18:41I'm the plumber.
- 18:42Great.
- 18:43Yeah.
- 18:44So we going to see him and I remember standing there because literally 13 fractures.
- 18:49He had two orthopedics teams working on him, broadening his femurs.
- 18:53He had a crushed heel that they had, like, stuck all these nails into and had hanging.
- 18:59I mean, it was just crazy.
- 19:00He had glass.
- 19:03Everything was covered except for a finger.
- 19:05He had broken arm, discolidated shoulder, so I've got the finger, holding the finger.
- 19:09And the machines are beeping and I say, grant your name means warrior.
- 19:16And you're going to be a hundred and ten percent.
- 19:17I'm like, blabbing away to him.
- 19:20And I feel a little squeeze and I'm like, hmm, you know, they said he was in coma.
- 19:25And so, you know, I said, grant, Bryce, you know, Bryce is cheering you on.
- 19:30That's his brother.
- 19:31He loves his brother.
- 19:32I feel squeeze.
- 19:33Then I said, your grandmother is like cheering you on.
- 19:36Nothing.
- 19:37But the grandma was kind of a negative nilly.
- 19:39So it's like, I hadn't actually called her yet because I knew that when I called her,
- 19:43she'd freak out.
- 19:44I was like, I'm not going to tell her.
- 19:45Anyway, then they said, your girlfriend, Mackenzie, and that's it.
- 19:48We started to try to pick my finger up off the bed.
- 19:50And that's when I was like, you are going to be a hundred and ten percent.
- 19:53This is going to be the best thing ever happened to you.
- 19:55Let's like, and just double it down.
- 19:57And we literally, you know, John Virgin was like, I'm giving you permission to prove every
- 20:02doctor wrong.
- 20:03Like, we just proceeded to go in there, like, seeing him holding this vision of him a hundred
- 20:07and ten percent, like, sneak and all sorts of stuff into the hospital.
- 20:11I had him on high dose fish oil, like I was doing progesterone cream.
- 20:15We were doing, like, Tibetan scrolls, holy water.
- 20:17Sort of like everybody's like, I got this.
- 20:19I'm like, send it on over.
- 20:20You know, we were doing essential oils.
- 20:22We had an acupuncture.
- 20:23It's coming in doing acupressure, like, you know, believe me, I would have, like, anything
- 20:28we needed to do.
- 20:29I'm like, whatever religion, let's go.
- 20:30Like, I'm, you know, agnostic.
- 20:32Let's go.
- 20:33So it was, it was interesting because I've watched the movies where people come out of
- 20:40coma's.
- 20:42And so I thought it was like that.
- 20:45They come out of the coma.
- 20:46They go, I love you.
- 20:47Right?
- 20:48This is not how people come out of coma, like, they're not.
- 20:51And so the doctor told me she goes, the doctor said, when he comes out of the coma, it
- 20:55will be ugly.
- 20:57And so I figured it was like, maybe he'd come out and scream or something.
- 21:00No, it was ugly for years.
- 21:05She didn't say it will be ugly for a moment, an hour, a day, a week, a month.
- 21:10She said, it'll be ugly.
- 21:11And it is ugly because basically their internal editor, their filter is shut down.
- 21:19Now that can be fun.
- 21:20It's like at one point, he was laughing hysterically.
- 21:23And it can be awful because you can get very angry.
- 21:27On bridal fear, too.
- 21:28Yeah.
- 21:29Yeah, it's all sorts of stuff.
- 21:30But when he first started coming out of it, he didn't say anything.
- 21:35He stared off into space and he moved the one arm that wasn't in a cast.
- 21:40And he did that for weeks.
- 21:41He just stared.
- 21:42And I'm like, oh, you know, the amount of mastery of your emotions that that requires
- 21:51to not freak out, because I thought he can feel, and turns out, he, Grant and I have a
- 21:57very telepathic, almost like the, I don't know if you listen to the telepathy tapes.
- 22:02If you don't know what you're talking about, if you listen to this, you have to listen
- 22:06to this.
- 22:07It's, first of all, you will never come out of it.
- 22:09You're going to be in there.
- 22:10So be prepared when you listen to this.
- 22:12Totally there.
- 22:13Yeah.
- 22:14It's incredible.
- 22:15But my son's a little bit on this spectrum.
- 22:17And I've always felt like he could, is so I'm going, he can feel anything.
- 22:21So I'm not coming in here unless I feel very, very, very like a solid empath.
- 22:26You know, I'm like, not going to let him feel any fear or anything else.
- 22:28Like, I'm coming in clean, clear.
- 22:31He's 110%.
- 22:32I'm not going to let him, like, worry or anything else.
- 22:34Like, don't do not worry.
- 22:35Gotcha.
- 22:36You know, I had Dr. Aim in coming.
- 22:38I also just be like, I'm bringing in troops there.
- 22:40They all came in, visited in people like, who are you?
- 22:43Oh, I'm just, you know, good mom for good mom, a few friends, but it was funny because
- 22:50I literally launched Virgin Diet bedside with him in a coma.
- 22:54And, you know, we have a New York Times bestselling author bedside with my son in a coma.
- 22:58They started, they were very cool at the hospital.
- 23:01They had a room for me to do interviews and because they started to watch everybody coming
- 23:05in at what was going on.
- 23:06They're like, oh, okay.
- 23:07That's amazing.
- 23:08That's amazing.
- 23:09It was incredible.
- 23:10But, you know, he started to come out of it and I was like, you know, I'm going to wake
- 23:13him up.
- 23:14So I did all sorts of stuff I brought in different things for him to smell and I brought
- 23:19him popsicles.
- 23:20I snuck in stuff.
- 23:21I was like, how do I wake up all of his senses?
- 23:24How do I just start to wake all this stuff up?
- 23:26And, you know, it took time, but it is crazy when someone comes out of a coma because he
- 23:34would say all sorts of stuff.
- 23:35I remember the nurse walking and he goes, you are.
- 23:37I love you.
- 23:38And I'm like, oh boy, you know, you're just like, oh, you know, I love that you're the
- 23:43mom who was actually doing the care while your son was in the hospital.
- 23:46I'm like, oh my gosh, it's so it was, it was pretty wild.
- 23:51It really just showed me that grant was used to doing hard things, you know, we taught
- 23:57our kids to like work hard, so I was used to doing hard things.
- 24:00So you just did, there's another hard thing.
- 24:02I'm going to, I want to ask that.
- 24:05That was actually exactly what I was going to ask you next was you had been preparing
- 24:09to do hard things since you were in school.
- 24:12And you know, since you were playing on the boys teams, you'd been training to do hard
- 24:15things.
- 24:16And I'd gone through a lot of hard things like we all have.
- 24:18So I think it's the frame of like, what if the hard things are actually the best, like
- 24:22first of all, have you ever met anyone super cool who life was easy for them?
- 24:26Never, never, never, never.
- 24:27There are, those people are not cool.
- 24:30Agreed.
- 24:31Yeah.
- 24:32Those are, those are the ones that are cool when high school.
- 24:33They're not cool, passing, passing.
- 24:34Right.
- 24:35Gosh, it is funny in high school.
- 24:36You know how the ones like the best looking ones, the ones are amazing.
- 24:40You come out and they're like, went nowhere.
- 24:42Oh, I was, I was the unattractive kid in school.
- 24:46I was always that person and I'm like, I look back today and I'm like, there is not
- 24:49a single person.
- 24:50Sorry if y'all are watching, but there's not a single person I went to high school with
- 24:53that I would trade my life with.
- 24:55Not one.
- 24:56And not the way I look like we're all turning 50 this year and I'm like, I'll be damned
- 25:02if I want to look like any of them, I'm like, I just, my life and then I laugh sometimes
- 25:07because like I grew up in a suburb of Detroit and truthfully didn't grow up in a family
- 25:12where you can be anything.
- 25:14Like it was never that.
- 25:15It was a smart kid and I was, you know, pretty socially adept, but I was raised by a grandmother
- 25:20who worked and raised two grandchildren and, you know, so on and so forth.
- 25:24So I mean, it was a pretty, I would say, atypical, but at the same time it was, it was not a,
- 25:30a plush, privileged life in that respect.
- 25:34But it was like, but I always believed that it didn't matter what I put my mind to.
- 25:37I never approached the world with a scarcity mentality.
- 25:41Where did you get that from?
- 25:44I don't know and I would say my dad happens to be the same way.
- 25:48And although when I was growing up, like, I was a teenage pregnancy, to be honest.
- 25:51So, so he was, he was a kid himself.
- 25:53Like he was growing up while I was growing up and we've got a great relationship today.
- 25:58But the, he's also one of those people and I was telling you earlier, like, I have no concept
- 26:05of age because of him, like 62 years old.
- 26:10My mother was ready to expire because life had been really, really long and hard.
- 26:1468 years old and my dad's hanging a Guinness record on his wall.
- 26:17Yeah. Wow.
- 26:18And, and I heard him on a podcast the other day, you'd know the guy.
- 26:22You know, Barry Shore.
- 26:23I'm sure you do.
- 26:24He's a Joe polished friend.
- 26:25My dad's good friends with Joe.
- 26:27Oh, how funny.
- 26:27Yeah.
- 26:28And so the funny enough.
- 26:30So Barry Shore is someone that Joe introduced him to and Barry's the happy whatever he's, he's over the top.
- 26:38But I was watching, he was on, I was on Barry's podcast last week or something and my dad had
- 26:43been on it as well and I saw his episode and I was like, it's funny.
- 26:46And I was watching his episode with Barry and he made the comment and because Barry's like,
- 26:52you know, we need to live positive, we need to, he's always, you know, about this cheery
- 26:56happy.
- 26:57It's a little sugary for me.
- 26:58But, you know, great.
- 26:59I'd rather that than the opposite.
- 27:01And my dad had actually made a comment on Barry's podcast about, he's like, look, I'm 68
- 27:05years old right now and he's just like, and I'm going to be honest with you.
- 27:08There's nothing today that I can't do that I could have done 30 years ago.
- 27:14And he's like, there's literally nothing that I do differently today that would be related
- 27:21age.
- 27:22He's just like, I run my business.
- 27:23I travel all over the place.
- 27:24I race cars, I like, I work out at the gym every day, like he's all into the supplementation
- 27:29and peptides and all the other kind of stuff as well and it's like, so we kind of nerd
- 27:32out on that stuff.
- 27:33And he's like, my life hasn't changed.
- 27:36He's like, I'm 68 and there's zero difference in the way my life is.
- 27:40And you know, and I kind of laughed because I was like, I'm 10th, it's kind of funny
- 27:42because like I'm turning 50 and that's a moment for whatever.
- 27:45And I'm like, my life's actually better than it was 20 years ago or 30 years ago.
- 27:52And it's like, I'm healthier, you know, metabolically and at a cellular level, I'm definitely
- 27:58healthier.
- 27:59But it's like, even psychologically, like I'm just a healthier person today.
- 28:03And it's like, and I think it is that show up at 100% speaking life and speaking into
- 28:09existence of things that you want to do.
- 28:11And you know, and I always say the, when we set, when we set a goal over here, life has
- 28:17a way of reverse engineering, all of the, all of the things that lead up to that, right?
- 28:22Because it's the series of milestones on the way.
- 28:24And if you never set a goal, you know, every road will take you wherever.
- 28:28But if this is where you are, if you're claiming 110% in a hospital room, every one of
- 28:32your actions, including the mood I walk into the room in is necessary.
- 28:38And anyone else walks into the room and like, yeah, they'd walk in and I, I should them
- 28:42out and let them know they could be fired.
- 28:44I love that.
- 28:45Yeah.
- 28:46Absolutely.
- 28:47Absolutely.
- 28:48Absolutely.
- 28:49I love that because it is 100% accurate to say that like people bringing negativity and
- 28:54like my aunt, yeah, my aunt Phil and I say, I take care of my aunt, but like she, she
- 28:58fell and broke her hip last year.
- 28:59And the way that she was being dealt with in the hospital, I'm like, no, we're not doing
- 29:04this.
- 29:05And it's like, and it was that same type.
- 29:08It was the negativity.
- 29:09It was they forgot to hook her up to an IV, but took her off of fluids for 24 hours.
- 29:13I'm like, what are you doing?
- 29:14Like they left her with a broken hip for 36 hours before even getting into an OR.
- 29:20What?
- 29:21And it's like, it was insane watching this.
- 29:23And I'm like, I'm not bringing negativity into the room.
- 29:25But I remember like, you know, even when the doctor was there, I'm like, can we step
- 29:29in the hallway?
- 29:30Yeah.
- 29:31Because we're going to have a negative conversation.
- 29:32Yeah.
- 29:33But we're not doing it in here.
- 29:34Oh, that's what I did with them.
- 29:35They were like, oh, we're just that that crushed heel became a thing.
- 29:39And it's interesting.
- 29:40You know, you realize the levels, because at first it was like, okay, well, we got a tornado
- 29:45order to fix that.
- 29:46All right.
- 29:47Well, he's in a coma.
- 29:48Like, and that's, that's an expiration day.
- 29:50I was like, okay, fix it.
- 29:51Like, and, you know, he's getting circle peanut.
- 29:53I'm like, I can handle that piece.
- 29:54You know, so we're like, but then.
- 29:58You know, all of a sudden, he's got this crushed heel and you can't like do anything
- 30:01when you have a crushed heel.
- 30:03And the orthopedic surgeons come walking in and like, you know, they're the big guys at
- 30:07the hospital.
- 30:08And they're like, we're just trying to give him to walk again out like out out of the
- 30:12room.
- 30:13You out of the room.
- 30:14You know?
- 30:15Yeah.
- 30:16Like, we're going to deal with this in the hallway.
- 30:17Yeah.
- 30:18That's what could happen here in this room.
- 30:19And it was that kind of stuff.
- 30:22Like, I mean, I love the alignment because I'm the same way like, I don't, I don't want
- 30:25that.
- 30:26Yeah.
- 30:27And I find myself going into that space sometimes.
- 30:30I'm like, nope, snap out, snap out, but not going to do that.
- 30:33Well, if that, do you know who Mary Morris is?
- 30:36Yes.
- 30:37So Mary had, had done something to her jaw.
- 30:40And so she goes to the dentist and the dentist giving her all this step and she'll stop, stop.
- 30:46I need you to be able to hold the vision of this being completely healed.
- 30:51Because if you can't hold the vision for you're not, not my dentist to him, if I be like,
- 30:56it's not going to work.
- 30:57And now, when you think about it and go, they have to be able to come in and see you
- 31:01where they have to hold that vision.
- 31:03They have to see this.
- 31:04All of these things are going to be there.
- 31:06They're just like, oh, you're going to be permanently this will never stop it.
- 31:10Just stop.
- 31:11That's something else.
- 31:12Well, DJ, let me ask, like, so your son, obviously your son came through this and ran in
- 31:17and which is amazing into a traumatic story and, you know, I 100% believe that you're
- 31:22responsible for that.
- 31:24Now it took a village.
- 31:25My ex-husband was made for this, like, he's the patient human.
- 31:30So we are a perfect, perfect pair to do this because I was like, I think when I'd come
- 31:35into the hospital or like, oh, damn, is your, is the dad coming in, you know?
- 31:42He's the one that would come in with flowers and cheery and I'm like going, what the hell
- 31:45is happening over here?
- 31:46It's the right.
- 31:47So, but he's very, it took, but the reality is the most important person for healing
- 31:53that was grant, really having it in him and to be challenged.
- 31:59Like I believe we're never better than when we're challenged.
- 32:01And it was interesting when he came out at first, I was being a little protective, like
- 32:05he'd step off the, you know, curb to go walk out the street and I'm like, you know, football
- 32:09tackling him.
- 32:11And you know, you have to, you have to push people, you have to challenge him.
- 32:15Like today, a gal, I have a gal on my team and she is really working on kind of
- 32:22shutting the weight, which I said, well, let's just start with getting your 10,000 steps
- 32:27a day in, right?
- 32:29And there was like day three and like, this is really hard.
- 32:32I go, that's great.
- 32:33That's fantastic.
- 32:34I go, what if the reframe is when you do hard things, you can do hard things.
- 32:38The more you do, the more you can do and like, you're just teaching yourself that you
- 32:41can do hard things.
- 32:42Have you read the book Do Hard Things?
- 32:44Uh-uh.
- 32:45Oh, it's actually a great book.
- 32:46I'm trying to think of the name of the author, but it's called Do Hard Things.
- 32:48It's a hard title.
- 32:49Like, I wonder, did the book so well?
- 32:52I wish I could tell you.
- 32:53I don't, because I just wonder how many people would buy a book saying Do Hard Things.
- 32:56I did.
- 32:57But he actually, in that book, I believe it's the same book where he actually talks about
- 33:01misogies.
- 33:02Are you familiar with that?
- 33:03Uh-uh.
- 33:04So, misogie is a, is a Japanese, I'm going to call it an adventure, but it's almost the,
- 33:09the pushing yourself to a limit that you never thought you could do and, and the recommendation
- 33:15is, once per year, I'm not certain it's that specific book that talks about misogie,
- 33:20but, um, you set a pace for yourself.
- 33:23Like, I had a friend who was like, all right, I'm going to do a misogie.
- 33:25It's going to be a four by four by 40.
- 33:26And I was like, what does that mean?
- 33:29And he's like, every four hours, four by four by 48, I think is what he called it.
- 33:34And every four hours, he had to run four miles for 48 hours.
- 33:38It literally means no sleep.
- 33:40I'll get the naps that he could get between.
- 33:42So every four hours, he had to go run four miles and then come home and you got to rest
- 33:47until the next four hour trigger, then you went and run four miles and, but the whole premise
- 33:52behind it is not that that's a health tip.
- 33:54Like, right.
- 33:55Obviously.
- 33:56That's a horrible stressor, but the reality of it, it is the mental discipline that it
- 34:02takes to do something.
- 34:03I told you, like, I'm doing a 75 hard right now.
- 34:06And there are some days, I'm like, I just don't want to do that today.
- 34:10Like, I don't, I don't want.
- 34:12I just don't want to.
- 34:13And I'm like, no, you're, yeah, that's not the point.
- 34:15Like, you're going to do it.
- 34:17Like, literally, I decided to do a 75 hard and I will be in the middle of it when my
- 34:22birthday hits.
- 34:23And I'm like, yeah, you know what?
- 34:24That's what's going to happen.
- 34:25And isn't that the best way of all to celebrate your birthday?
- 34:28And I'm not going to touch alcohol for 75 days.
- 34:31Not that I'm a big drinker anyways, but it's like, but I'm not going to do that.
- 34:35And I'm going to get up and I'm going to do two workouts that day.
- 34:37And I'm going to celebrate the fact that I can, first of all, and it's like, and
- 34:42I'm not going to eat a cake because I'm not intaking sugar.
- 34:46Like, and I'm not going to eat a seed oil just because it's in a dish that I want.
- 34:49No, like, I'm not going to do these things because this is part of the discipline.
- 34:52And some people like, why would you do that to yourself?
- 34:54And somebody's like, well, you can, why wouldn't you do that for yourself exactly?
- 34:58And it's for yourself not to yourself.
- 35:01Yes.
- 35:01I'm like, I'm not doing this to myself.
- 35:04It's like, I'm doing this to prove to myself that hard things are possible.
- 35:09Yeah.
- 35:10And I, like, every year, I'm the New Year's resolution guy.
- 35:14Every year, I've got a list of my phone that goes back like 15 years where it's like,
- 35:18every year, I'm like, I want to do this, this, this, this, this.
- 35:20And I'll make like a list of 50 things that I want to accomplish this year.
- 35:23And some of them are financial, some are relational, some are fitness and health related.
- 35:27And sometimes they're ridiculous things.
- 35:29Like one of my goals this year was to finish 365 days of dual lingo in a row.
- 35:34What is that?
- 35:35Dual lingo.
- 35:36It's the language app where you're practicing other languages.
- 35:38And I'm like, I just want to do it 365 days.
- 35:41Which language are you practicing?
- 35:42Spanish.
- 35:43And I'm two days away from my 365.
- 35:45Oh, nice.
- 35:46And I'm like, so I'm the day 365 this morning.
- 35:49But it's, it's not changing.
- 35:51So could you do like taco and account?
- 35:53To do what?
- 35:54Like, could you say taco and account?
- 35:56I mean, like how?
- 35:57No, no, no.
- 35:58It actually walks you through exercise.
- 35:59That's it.
- 36:00You're right.
- 36:01I went to the Mexican restaurant and like a barrio, please.
- 36:07Not exactly.
- 36:08No.
- 36:09No, no.
- 36:10Jesus.
- 36:11But don't you just get done for today?
- 36:13No point out.
- 36:14Exactly.
- 36:16But no, it's this, but literally it's just for the discipline.
- 36:20It's for the discipline of saying I could because if I didn't do it this morning, it's
- 36:22not like my life got impacted.
- 36:25But getting up and going, no, before you get out of bed, you're going to do your Spanish
- 36:28practice before you get out of bed.
- 36:29That's why because you said you were going to do it.
- 36:32You're going to do it.
- 36:33And you commit to your word and you do what you say you're going to do.
- 36:36And that discipline echoes in every area of life.
- 36:41And I have found, I was actually, so you're familiar with my association with Zona.
- 36:48And we're in the midst of the FDA clinical trial and stuff right now and I laugh because
- 36:51I told the president of the board, like, yeah, we're going through the FDA clinical trials
- 36:55right now.
- 36:56We're going to be successful, Mike, and I'm thrilled that we're doing it under a Marty
- 36:59McCarrie FDA and blah, blah.
- 37:01Yeah.
- 37:02And I'm like, this is amazing.
- 37:03And he's just like, oh, I love your optimism.
- 37:05And I'm like, no, I'm like, in the next six months, I plan on having a meeting with Marty
- 37:09McCarrie.
- 37:10I'm like, that's just how this is going to work out.
- 37:12And he's like, okay, like, and like, it cost nothing to declare that.
- 37:18Like, this is what I'm going to do because I want this on the market for the sake of everybody
- 37:22else.
- 37:23I'm like, and you know what?
- 37:2412 months from now.
- 37:25Trump.
- 37:26Like, why not?
- 37:28Why not?
- 37:29It doesn't cost anything.
- 37:30And then I laughed because I text him Tuesday night, you know, you know, you know, nigs
- 37:33all the stony.
- 37:34I'm sure.
- 37:35And Nick had his dinner on Tuesday night.
- 37:37And I had actually helped him with a lot of that stuff for the dinner.
- 37:40But I ended up sitting next to Callie at the table and like, you know what, you're sitting
- 37:45here.
- 37:46Yeah.
- 37:47I did it.
- 37:48He's like, yeah, okay.
- 37:49Like, wait, he was here.
- 37:50Take my number, blah, blah.
- 37:51And we just sit and chat and so on and so forth.
- 37:52And I text Stinson, who's the president of the board and I'm like, he probably mad that
- 37:56I used his name because he's like one of those private families.
- 37:59Um, but I'm like, yeah, you know what?
- 38:01Like I'm sitting here with Callie.
- 38:02He's got some really good ideas for us with the FDA and so on.
- 38:04And he's like, what are you doing?
- 38:06Like, and I'm like, what?
- 38:07I said, I was good.
- 38:08What I said, I was going to do.
- 38:09Yeah.
- 38:10That's exactly right.
- 38:11Like, I've committed to what I'm doing.
- 38:12That's what happened.
- 38:13I'm like, why does he guess what?
- 38:14This is one of the biggest health problems we face.
- 38:18And this is the most amazing, easy way to fix it.
- 38:21Right.
- 38:22So why wouldn't everyone want to know about it?
- 38:24Well, yeah, that for sure.
- 38:25But a part of me is like, no, I, I committed fully that if you, if I'm going to lead this
- 38:30charge, I'm going to lead it at a hundred percent.
- 38:32And so yes, things show up.
- 38:33I'm going to make sure that I, because that all happened for a reason.
- 38:38Absolutely.
- 38:39Now I, now I do have a question for you.
- 38:41So Grant, he's well, all as well, you know, that's a great story.
- 38:46But, but clearly that was also a moment for you.
- 38:50You mean, not only as a mother, because my God, I can't even imagine while you walked
- 38:54into his room positively and I'm certain there were tears cried when you got home.
- 38:57Actually, I did not cry.
- 38:59My, my book agent when I wrote the book said, you know, in talk about crying, I go, I,
- 39:03I actually did not cry.
- 39:05I'm not a cryer, though.
- 39:06I don't really cry when I was praying that I cried TV commercials.
- 39:09But beyond that, hormonal situation, that's not how I handle things.
- 39:14It's like we all have our ways that we handle things.
- 39:17I wish.
- 39:18I look at people and I'm like, I wish I could cry like that.
- 39:21Like these people that just cry, I wish I'd never been a cryer.
- 39:24See, they're funny.
- 39:25I'll sweat.
- 39:27And I laugh.
- 39:28I'm like, I'm your crisis player.
- 39:29Like if the world's falling apart, I'm like, I'd get very zen.
- 39:32I'm like, I'm like, okay, let's go.
- 39:35K and emergency, I am your guy.
- 39:37Like I am flow state.
- 39:38Yeah.
- 39:39The method of crisis.
- 39:40Absolutely me too.
- 39:41I should have been an ER doc.
- 39:42So I did a great ER doctor.
- 39:45Yeah, they're so funny.
- 39:46Except they probably were to done plastic surgery.
- 39:47But that's just because it just seems like something fun to do.
- 39:50And then it would just be hurting people.
- 39:52So that's probably the best I didn't do.
- 39:53Maybe I just think that like I've a lot of friends who are plastic surgeons
- 39:57and the problem is people come in for plastic surgery.
- 39:59But that's not really what they're trying to fix.
- 40:01That's also true.
- 40:02Well, I went into clinical psychology instead.
- 40:04So yes, I exactly know what you're talking about.
- 40:07So grand story, though, that clearly fueled your purpose forward.
- 40:11It, um, how did it shift?
- 40:14You know, it shifted some things because it was interesting.
- 40:16Because here I was publishing a diet book.
- 40:19And I remember thinking standing there in the hospital that first night
- 40:24and I was like, I am ready.
- 40:25I was like, game on, you know?
- 40:28And at that man, I'm at the top of my health game.
- 40:31Thank God because I am going through a lot of stress,
- 40:35but I'd already been prepared for it.
- 40:36But it made me realize like what about someone if they weren't ready?
- 40:41Like you can't walk into an ICU sick.
- 40:44Was it a sniffle?
- 40:45You can't go under that kind of stress.
- 40:47Like I didn't get sick at all.
- 40:49Like I was fine the entire time.
- 40:50I was like, you know, I also got to the hospital
- 40:54between 5, 30 and 6 a.m. every day, left there about eight.
- 40:57I would pop out and run the stairs.
- 40:59Health, the whole foods actually found out and was delivering food.
- 41:02Like I ate healthy.
- 41:03I did everything the way I normally I kept all my stuff up.
- 41:06Do I normally do?
- 41:08I do.
- 41:09And worked bedside with him in a coma
- 41:11and did like interviews out of the office.
- 41:14But it just what it really made me reframe was that you've just,
- 41:21you've got to seize every moment of every day.
- 41:23You can't say, I will handle that little health thing tomorrow
- 41:26because had I had any stuff going on,
- 41:29that would have been a very, like, that would have been a problem.
- 41:31Like the fact I could show up completely and fully and be there for him.
- 41:35And the other thing is, you know the Gary,
- 41:38I think it's Gary Keller, it's great Keller.
- 41:40Guy, you wrote one thing, hmm.
- 41:44So it is this whole book about how when you just,
- 41:47the amount of things we can get done if we just,
- 41:49instead of like having a lot of stuff,
- 41:50which all of us ADD entrepreneurs love that a lot of things.
- 41:53But if we just focus on a thing, get the thing done,
- 41:56then focus on the next thing,
- 41:57like we can accomplish enormous things.
- 42:00And what happened when Grant got hit
- 42:02is I literally evaluated everything and went, okay.
- 42:05Number one, my health and self-care,
- 42:08which is not what most people would do.
- 42:11They would have completely thrown that out the window.
- 42:13And I realized I can't show up for Grant
- 42:16and be in the, I see you if I'm sick.
- 42:18So I have got to be well rested.
- 42:20I think I'd be able to make right decisions, et cetera.
- 42:22So I was like, I took even better care of my health.
- 42:28So that was the first big thing.
- 42:29And the next thing was Grant.
- 42:31And, you know, of course, my ex-husband was taking care of my son,
- 42:34Bryce, so that took a pressure off of that.
- 42:37Because I was two hours away from home.
- 42:39And then the third thing was making this book go bigger
- 42:42than I could have ever even conceived of it
- 42:43because it was going to fund all of the things
- 42:46I was going to need to do for Grant
- 42:47because insurance is not going to cover
- 42:49interstitial stem cells and all the stuff.
- 42:51We did all the stuff.
- 42:53And so that's what I did.
- 42:55And so I just focused.
- 42:57I got rid of all the rest of the stuff.
- 42:59And it made me realize that most of the stuff
- 43:02we spend our time on and worry about
- 43:04our distractions and silliness.
- 43:05Like, I just wouldn't even let that go on my brain.
- 43:07And I've kept to that to this day of like,
- 43:11what can I get rid of?
- 43:12What can I get rid of?
- 43:13What is the distraction?
- 43:14Because most of what we spend our time on
- 43:16is not remotely relevant.
- 43:19Most of the things we, like, I'm not a warrior.
- 43:22But most of the stuff we just worry about stuff.
- 43:24And it's just,
- 43:26what I'm hearing so much of is like,
- 43:28every day is training day.
- 43:29Yeah.
- 43:30But it doesn't matter.
- 43:31Every day is training day.
- 43:32Yeah, every day you've got to show up and say,
- 43:34and again, it was funny.
- 43:35I, you know, Nat and I'm very close.
- 43:38I love Nat.
- 43:39So Nat and I, so I was in the gym this morning
- 43:41and then Nat walked in and we're like, blah, blah, blah, you know?
- 43:45And she's like going, oh, you know,
- 43:46today's just not going to be a big workout day.
- 43:48Like she was kind of realized
- 43:49because we like talked too much.
- 43:51And then it's like, today you showed up,
- 43:53you came in, you did some stuff, you did it.
- 43:56Like, you know, every day doesn't have to be the hardest day,
- 43:58but every day is a training day.
- 44:00Every day you have to show up and, you know,
- 44:02you do your best that you can in that situation.
- 44:04I love Nat.
- 44:05I actually got to know Nat and, like, love her to death.
- 44:09We did a couple Tony Robbins conferences together.
- 44:11Oh, sure.
- 44:12Fine.
- 44:14Some of the laughs we've had in like the tears,
- 44:16like they, they, they, everything.
- 44:17It's a Tony Robbins contest.
- 44:18I still has only been, I've been, I've been,
- 44:20I do Tony, I speak for Tony,
- 44:23but I've only been to business mastery.
- 44:26We did business mastery back in August
- 44:29and then ended up doing date with Destiny,
- 44:32which date with Destiny and I'll care who you are.
- 44:34Like you're walking out of there with something, right?
- 44:35Like it's, it's, it's,
- 44:37I've got a somewhere.
- 44:37I've been to this for you.
- 44:39Yeah, it's really, it's kind of ridiculous, isn't it?
- 44:41Like I go and teach you December.
- 44:43He always does it, like, first week of December every year.
- 44:46I know a couple of people that are actually
- 44:47going to go do it this year.
- 44:48Yeah, I mean, I can go whenever I want,
- 44:50because so it's kind of going like,
- 44:53this is really silly that I haven't made it
- 44:55to one of these things yet.
- 44:56I think that's not easy.
- 44:57You need to do a date with Destiny.
- 44:59Like in Tony, such a genius at like NLP.
- 45:01So it's like, it is incredible to watch him,
- 45:05how he can do these things is quite, it's quite seasoning.
- 45:09He's a forcing nature.
- 45:10He is, I remember early on when I was a
- 45:13did Dr. Phil for a couple of years,
- 45:15and I would watch the way the guy thought on his feet
- 45:17and I was like, this guy, like, say whatever you want,
- 45:20but man, is he good, you know, and then you go,
- 45:23then Tony is like 10 x, 100 x that.
- 45:26You just watch, you go, I got a Tony story for you.
- 45:30We're in December and it's one of these hypnotic moments
- 45:35and whatever and everybody's going through this exercise
- 45:37where they're forgiving somebody in their past.
- 45:39And like, you know, this stuff that I tend to intuitively
- 45:43check out on because that's not into the woo kind of stuff,
- 45:47but I play along and have the experience like all good.
- 45:51And this little Malaysian lady, you can picture this
- 45:54because you know, Tony was little Malaysian lady is there
- 45:58and she stands up to tell her story
- 46:00and she's like, I today had broken, broken English,
- 46:03you know, forgave my mother and Tony's like,
- 46:06that's great, you know, tell us the story
- 46:09and she says, when I was a child,
- 46:11I was probably five or six years old
- 46:14and my mother told me that she couldn't afford
- 46:18to keep me anymore and she told me I had to go live
- 46:22with another family for a while until she earned enough money
- 46:26for her to be able to afford us to be together.
- 46:30And you know, and everybody's like,
- 46:31oh, sad sits or collective gasp in the audience,
- 46:346,000 people all with a deep sigh.
- 46:37And she went, and the first time I talked to my mother
- 46:41on a telephone, I told her that the man I was living with
- 46:45was sexually abusing me every night.
- 46:48Now 6,000 gasps.
- 46:50And she said, and my mother told me to just stick it out
- 46:54for six months and she'll have enough money.
- 46:57And like, the whole room froze
- 47:00because that's just one of those like,
- 47:02like, oh my God, like that's like,
- 47:04that's a horrible story like whatever.
- 47:07And she's like, and tonight, I and Tony went,
- 47:11stop right there.
- 47:13Okay, now 6,000 people are horrifying.
- 47:16And he said, totally.
- 47:18And he's like, I want to stop you right there.
- 47:21He said, there isn't a cell in your body
- 47:26that that man has ever touched.
- 47:31And everybody just kind of arrested for a moment
- 47:33and he goes, the cells in your body
- 47:35actually recreate themselves at most every seven years.
- 47:41And your body renews every seven years,
- 47:44which means your body has regenerated every cell
- 47:49multiple times.
- 47:50And the only reason the cells in your body
- 47:53even know that that man touched you
- 47:56is because you keep telling yourself this story
- 47:59over and over and over again.
- 48:02And you are passing that trauma along
- 48:05to every version of you that is reborn year after year.
- 48:09And it was like, oh, and you're like,
- 48:13oh, like, wow, that was a pattern interrupt, right?
- 48:17That was like psychological genius.
- 48:20And he went, and I want you to finish the story.
- 48:23And when the story is finished,
- 48:25it never gets repeated again.
- 48:27Go ahead.
- 48:29It was like, I was like,
- 48:31holy moly, what did that man just do in this room?
- 48:35Like you took 6,000 people and took them
- 48:37through an emotional journey.
- 48:38Like how did he, like, isn't that cool?
- 48:41It's just, it's not in that.
- 48:43Yeah, like, there's a couple of people,
- 48:45I think are aliens.
- 48:48Please, I want to know.
- 48:48He's not an alien.
- 48:50I bet I actually, right?
- 48:51He's clearly an alien.
- 48:52Yeah, definitely spectrum, but.
- 48:54Yeah, yeah.
- 48:55Well, but I mean, just to think of these things,
- 48:56but the big thinking out of him.
- 48:58Tony's like either channeled, you know,
- 49:01in Sages too, by the way,
- 49:02I was doing a thing with Tams and Fidel
- 49:05and we were co-interviewing Sage.
- 49:07And I'm like, okay.
- 49:09Like what did you just do here, you know?
- 49:11Listen, like, wow, you know,
- 49:14but he has just channeled.
- 49:16It is quite something that was incredible.
- 49:18I mean, where would you learn how to do this
- 49:20and to feel into it, to know what you can do
- 49:23because you got to create a lot of psychological safety
- 49:25to be able to do something like that
- 49:26and not just piss someone off
- 49:28and have them retract and go crazy.
- 49:30Yes, you know?
- 49:31And we were there and it was me and Natalie.
- 49:34And you know, Olivia Lassler,
- 49:36she's a psycho-neural immunologist.
- 49:38So she and I breakfast the next morning.
- 49:40I was like, what in the world?
- 49:42Yeah, what just happened?
- 49:43And I told you, like, my background's clinical psych.
- 49:45So like, we start going on and on and on
- 49:47about this power of, you know,
- 49:48and I'm just like, this is something that I've been
- 49:50like so into and blah, blah, blah.
- 49:51And oh my gosh, like, what do you just did?
- 49:52And it was like, what in the world just happened?
- 49:56And but it all ties back to this moment with Grant, right?
- 49:59It's 110.
- 50:01It's 110.
- 50:02And speaking those types of things over your body
- 50:04makes your body respond as if they were already happening.
- 50:07Like tell your body that like,
- 50:08and I will say like even using,
- 50:10I'm sure, you know, Vision Lachiani.
- 50:12And like, you know, talking to Vision and getting,
- 50:16you know, some of the, even the what he does with,
- 50:18like the silver method meditation and stuff.
- 50:20And like, and I got into that deep for a little while
- 50:23and listening to the fact like,
- 50:25I've actually found myself in places
- 50:27where I'm like, I have an upset stomach right now.
- 50:30But I'm on an airplane.
- 50:31There's a whole lot I can do about this.
- 50:32We're not gonna have this.
- 50:33I mean, this is just going to be my thing.
- 50:35And I'm like, wait, this doesn't have to be my thing though.
- 50:39Like, because I'm not going to just suffer through this.
- 50:42And I'm like, okay, like, I'm gonna put myself
- 50:44into a meditative state.
- 50:46And I'm going to speak to the cells in my body
- 50:49and tell them to diagnose what's going on and fix this.
- 50:52And we'll actually feel that going on in my own body
- 50:55and it settles that upset stomach.
- 50:58Because like, no, I need you to awaken.
- 51:00Like, I need you to behave in a way right now
- 51:03and I call the shots here.
- 51:05Like, this is what happens.
- 51:06And I think it's that power of voice
- 51:10is so incredible.
- 51:14And I love that.
- 51:14Like, the grand story, about 110%.
- 51:17Like, I'm gonna use that from now on.
- 51:19It's gonna be, it's gonna be the 110% or nothing.
- 51:21But, right.
- 51:22There's no, there's burn the boats.
- 51:24Yeah, burn all the boats.
- 51:26Take that island.
- 51:26Yep, we're burning the boats.
- 51:27We're not going home, yeah.
- 51:29Like, this is where life is going to be right now.
- 51:31Like, this is not an optional moment.
- 51:34This is, this is, I'm declaring victory in advance.
- 51:37Time just has to catch up.
- 51:39100%.
- 51:40I love that.
- 51:42That's not mine.
- 51:42I got a credit.
- 51:43One of my buddies, Kevin Ellis.
- 51:45He would stand up on one of our masterminds, right?
- 51:47And he's like, la la la la la.
- 51:49And time just has a cut up.
- 51:51I'm actually a guest on Kevin's podcast tomorrow.
- 51:54Oh, how funny.
- 51:55I know I've known Kevin for years
- 51:57through Michael Fisherman's group.
- 51:58I've yet to do mastermind.
- 52:00So I'm planning on it this year.
- 52:02You're coming to Mindshare this year?
- 52:03That's your Mindshare.
- 52:03Yes.
- 52:04Hey, you're a mastermind.
- 52:05We have the Mindshare and then we have the mastermind there.
- 52:08Like we have the big group and then we have a smaller group.
- 52:11So we'll come to the big group
- 52:13and then you'll feel into it to see if it's,
- 52:15I don't know what's going on with your life.
- 52:16If it's, if you're looking for the time
- 52:19to have an amazing group that's all thinking this way
- 52:22and grow and scale your business, that's the mastermind.
- 52:25And this that Mindshare is?
- 52:26Is Mindshare's our big community?
- 52:28And then we do our amazing event each year.
- 52:30Last year was Tim's 60th birthday party.
- 52:33Oh, the 60th party was super fun.
- 52:36So every year we have a costume party.
- 52:37This year's team is all around AI.
- 52:39So it's all about how we need to show up as superheroes.
- 52:46That my time is being spent right now.
- 52:49So it's very exciting.
- 52:50Like the AI thing's very exciting.
- 52:52It's very exciting for what we'll be able to do in health
- 52:54and where we need to show up.
- 52:56Like how we need to really lean into our brands,
- 52:59our voice, you know?
- 53:01So.
- 53:02And then, and I've said about AI, like people like,
- 53:05oh, AI, whatever.
- 53:05And I was a college professor for many years.
- 53:07And it's like, and I can't even imagine being a college
- 53:10I've got friends that are still teaching.
- 53:12And I'm like, I don't even know how you're dealing
- 53:14with AI right now for people turning
- 53:16and writing assignments and stuff like, I,
- 53:18yeah, how would you know?
- 53:19How would you know if they, they like,
- 53:21and the other part of it is, okay, now you're going to school.
- 53:24What are you actually like, what are you studying?
- 53:26Right.
- 53:27Are you like, cause really what you need to study
- 53:29is how to prompt.
- 53:30Correct.
- 53:31That's the most important thing is how to ask amazing questions.
- 53:34Absolutely.
- 53:35And the reality is, is like, it's this idea of like,
- 53:37I believe that the smart people are going to get smarter
- 53:40from it.
- 53:40And I think stupid people are going to get stupider from it.
- 53:43Like because if you're willing to do hard things,
- 53:46this is going to be a superpower.
- 53:48And if you're not willing to do hard things,
- 53:51you're going to use it as a crutch
- 53:52that's going to make you limp even worse
- 53:54than you already did.
- 53:56And I don't think there's an in between.
- 53:58Yeah.
- 53:59So I remember calculators and, and, and, and I had a great,
- 54:04great, I had to like take, I don't know,
- 54:06five statistics courses in grad school.
- 54:08I'm like, why is this so ridiculous?
- 54:11But the biggest thing I remember from all of those was,
- 54:13they said, you have to be able to know how to do it
- 54:15without the calculator and know the right answer
- 54:18so that you can eyeball it to go.
- 54:19It's just in the ballpark.
- 54:21And that's how I see was AI.
- 54:22It's like, it's, you still right now,
- 54:24and maybe one day it won't.
- 54:25But, you know, we have to know how to prompt
- 54:27and go, this is even in the ballpark
- 54:29because it's like where I need to be, right?
- 54:31So, yep.
- 54:33Well, and it's, I think AI is either going to,
- 54:36and I always say that what it's done for me
- 54:39is it's given me more time to critically think.
- 54:43Yes, like I'm able to do what only humans can do
- 54:47because I've off-boarded some of the things
- 54:48that I don't have to spend my time doing.
- 54:51And I think that the people on the other side of that,
- 54:54that continuum are using it to replace the things
- 54:59that give them the time to critical think.
- 55:01Like, they're using it too critically think.
- 55:04It's like, got it, but now you're gonna lose that quality.
- 55:07Like, don't use it, you lose it.
- 55:09And that's what's going to happen.
- 55:10And for me, I'm like, I'm finding that it's elevating
- 55:13my thinking and I, you know, as a marketing guy,
- 55:15even like, I sit and spend all my time,
- 55:18I'm like, I have creative meetings with my, with my GPT.
- 55:21Like, hey, I've got these ideas.
- 55:22This is what I'm thinking of.
- 55:23Like, what are your thoughts?
- 55:24What, what holes can you find?
- 55:26And by the way, do me a favor.
- 55:27Like, go, go ask Donald Miller
- 55:30what his opinion would be on this topic.
- 55:31And, you know, ask Joe Polish
- 55:33what he would do in this situation.
- 55:35Like, and, and using these types of prompts and stuff.
- 55:37And I'm like, and I have these amazing meetings.
- 55:40And, and I like, is like, sometimes I'll literally
- 55:43just drive home and putting on my Bluetooth
- 55:47and I'll hit the GPT button, just talk to my,
- 55:50my bot on my drive home.
- 55:53Hey, I had this going on at work today.
- 55:55And these are the things that I'm trying to figure out.
- 55:56And I don't know how to approach the situation,
- 55:58but these are the things I'm thinking about.
- 56:01Okay, have you seen the thing?
- 56:02My canyx turned me on to this.
- 56:04And it's this prompt that basically will,
- 56:07it will give you your five greatest areas of weakness.
- 56:11Yes.
- 56:13Did you do it?
- 56:14I have not yet, but I do know my canyx
- 56:16and the, I have not done it yet.
- 56:19I need you.
- 56:20We were all in Mexico.
- 56:21Excited female founders groups.
- 56:22So a bunch of us were having dinnery sat down.
- 56:24You, and I'm like, holy smokes.
- 56:27It is absolutely spot on.
- 56:30Sad, right?
- 56:32It's incredible.
- 56:33Yeah.
- 56:33It kind of like, I don't know if I want to read this.
- 56:35I've been finding it just being used in just,
- 56:38I say like even client proposals, brand guidelines.
- 56:40And you're just like, look, this is what I'm trying to do.
- 56:42This is the picture.
- 56:43I'm not losing my ability to understand the market.
- 56:47I'm not losing my ability to understand a product placement.
- 56:50That is very much in tune.
- 56:53I'm just asking you to kind of take my words
- 56:55and make them coherent.
- 56:56Yeah.
- 56:57And then I'll edit.
- 56:59But, but you're able to advance the thinking
- 57:01and move on to the next topic
- 57:03to go critically think the next topic
- 57:05because you advanced my work.
- 57:07Like you made me smarter.
- 57:08I've been doing all my supplement formulation with AI.
- 57:11That's amazing.
- 57:12It's unbelievable.
- 57:13No, I think that's absolutely amazing.
- 57:15I was actually talking, you mentioned AI
- 57:17and I had a meeting, probably shouldn't even say this,
- 57:19but I, you know, changing life and destiny conference, Alpernia.
- 57:23You know, Al, so changing life and destiny is every year in Dallas
- 57:25and it's beautiful.
- 57:27I would say it's one of my favorite conferences of the year
- 57:29because it's not, it's not giant stage.
- 57:33It's very family driven.
- 57:34A lot of practitioners, chiropractic, functional health
- 57:37and they do CEUs and everything.
- 57:38But like Dan Pompa got recognized this year
- 57:41in Fab Mancini and these guys, you know all of them.
- 57:44And, but I love that.
- 57:46So we actually did all of their marketing
- 57:48and everything for them this year to help bring this on.
- 57:50We just did a meeting recently
- 57:52and talking about the 2026 conference
- 57:56and I'll keep you posted on it and never heard of it.
- 57:58Yeah, they've been doing it for many years
- 58:01and it's always at the, in Plano, Texas
- 58:03and it's, it's a great conference
- 58:05because like I said, it's all people
- 58:07who it's very well networked.
- 58:08They'll big tree spoke there this year.
- 58:11So great, great conference.
- 58:14Anyways, I was talking to Alan, like Alec,
- 58:16your audience is practitioners.
- 58:18It's not consumers.
- 58:20The audience is getting as many practitioners
- 58:22there as possible and like this year's conversation
- 58:25needs to be about AI because practitioners
- 58:28are busy practicing and they're not taking the time
- 58:32to understand the way that this is instrumental
- 58:34in their practice.
- 58:36And it was, you know, talking about this
- 58:38and it's funny because that conversation came up
- 58:40when I was talking with Chris Motley.
- 58:42I'm sure you know, Chris Motley,
- 58:43he took over Josh Axe's podcast, Ancient Health.
- 58:47But anyways, Chris is a cool guy.
- 58:49He's a functional doctor and I'm like,
- 58:50Chris, let me ask you, do you use AI and diagnostics?
- 58:53And he's just like, I can't tell you I do.
- 58:55And I'm like, well, let me ask you a question.
- 58:57I'm like, because from a diagnostic standpoint,
- 58:58was I was demonstrating this.
- 59:00And I'm like, a patient one comes in,
- 59:02has a presenting issue, you find a solution,
- 59:05you give it, patient two comes in, similar symptoms,
- 59:08you give them that solution, patient three comes in,
- 59:10same situation, patient four comes in,
- 59:13what's your natural bent?
- 59:16And he's like, probably given the same solution
- 59:18I gave the other three and I'm like, yeah,
- 59:19but what if the symptoms the same,
- 59:22but the root cause is different?
- 59:24Mike, AI is such a way for you to objectively.
- 59:28This is the symptom, this is the patient profile.
- 59:31Do me a favor, invite JJ Virgin to the conversation,
- 59:35invite Stam Pompa to the conversation,
- 59:37invite Mindy Pell to the conversation,
- 59:39find out what all of them would say about a person
- 59:41who with all of this diagnosis,
- 59:43and what are the possible things?
- 59:46And like, and maybe it spits out six different possibilities.
- 59:49Like, you can probably objectively,
- 59:50you can cross two off.
- 59:52If these two nope, yep, this is the one that I assumed.
- 59:55But wow, I've got to chink in my armor on these three
- 59:58cause I haven't disproved them.
- 59:59I haven't ruled these three out.
- 1:00:01So it's too early for me to jump to this one.
- 1:00:04And he's like, I have never even thought.
- 1:00:07I just got my vibrant labs tests back
- 1:00:10and I was like, oh, I should talk to the lab director
- 1:00:12over there and I go, wait a minute.
- 1:00:13So I tell him, wait a minute, hold on.
- 1:00:17I don't have to do that.
- 1:00:18And I literally put in some of my favorite practitioners
- 1:00:21and gave it all the information,
- 1:00:23dropped it on my labs and it was like, well, it's crazy.
- 1:00:29I did this and I would not show him,
- 1:00:31but I was showing Alan and Mike.
- 1:00:32And I did this full like Dr.
- 1:00:34House MD diagnostics thing.
- 1:00:36And I'm like, and I'm asking it, like, what are the rule outs?
- 1:00:40You know, what are the things it could be?
- 1:00:42Are there, I'm asking like, are there mental house comorbidities
- 1:00:46that I should be looking for and so on?
- 1:00:47And did this full practice diagnostic?
- 1:00:49I'm like, Isaac, this is Mark Heiminsworth.
- 1:00:51This is function health, right?
- 1:00:53Like, it's take all the data, put it into the AI
- 1:00:55and then baseline it against general population type information
- 1:00:58and we can get a pretty good answer.
- 1:01:01Like, that's not the future.
- 1:01:03Like, that's the present right now.
- 1:01:04Like, we need to get more people realizing the power of this.
- 1:01:08The future is you have your own health GPT.
- 1:01:10It knows all your stuff.
- 1:01:12Yes.
- 1:01:12You know, so each time you do a lab,
- 1:01:15and you're wearable, everything reports into it.
- 1:01:17And you have a virtual doctor available on your desktop,
- 1:01:21which is actually the whole thing.
- 1:01:23JJ, I don't want to keep you updated.
- 1:01:24Oh my gosh.
- 1:01:25We could sit and chat all afternoon.
- 1:01:26I absolutely love it.
- 1:01:28I don't want to keep you all day,
- 1:01:29but I am so grateful that you took the time
- 1:01:31to come see me while you were here.
- 1:01:32Like, that means a lot.
- 1:01:33And like, I just look forward to seeing the future.
- 1:01:35Thank you for the pleasure.
- 1:01:36I'm excited you're coming to my chair.
- 1:01:38I will be, for sure.
- 1:01:39See, you sold a ticket while you were here.
- 1:01:40But the reality is,
- 1:01:43is like, just your story is inspirational.
- 1:01:45The work you do is incredible.
- 1:01:46And literally millions of people have been impacted
- 1:01:48by what you do, whether through books.
- 1:01:50The biggest ones are coming.
- 1:01:51My big book is coming.
- 1:01:53Like, seriously, like, seriously, my best work is ahead.
- 1:01:56It's what I've been wanting to do forever.
- 1:01:58And I feel like, does that guy
- 1:01:59just finally caught up to me?
- 1:02:01I love that.
- 1:02:02Do you know Dan Sullivan?
- 1:02:03Yes.
- 1:02:04I've worked with him for years.
- 1:02:06Oh, that's amazing.
- 1:02:07So Dan, who is actually very good friends with my dad.
- 1:02:11So I know Dan and Babs for ages and whatnot.
- 1:02:13And but Dan, oh, I don't pants as well.
- 1:02:16Let me show you.
- 1:02:16I was at her birthday party
- 1:02:17and like, everybody wore red glasses.
- 1:02:19Oh, they're so funny.
- 1:02:21But Dan, who is also the tallest girl in class, right?
- 1:02:24I know, that's why Babs and I are fond of.
- 1:02:27You know?
- 1:02:28We're always like, wait, you're taller.
- 1:02:29Wait, you're taller.
- 1:02:30Like, what shoes are you wearing?
- 1:02:31But Dan always uses the phrase
- 1:02:33that the only way to thrive is for your future
- 1:02:34to be bigger than your past.
- 1:02:35Yeah.
- 1:02:36And I just, I love that quote.
- 1:02:38Like, the future's gotta be bigger than the past
- 1:02:39or what's going on.
- 1:02:40Yeah.
- 1:02:41Otherwise you're declined.
- 1:02:42And it's so funny, because as people are aging,
- 1:02:43it's like they're looking at all the things they can't do.
- 1:02:46Now, and I was like, what if, like,
- 1:02:48I literally have role models around me.
- 1:02:50It's one of the reasons I love spending time
- 1:02:52with Mary Morrissey.
- 1:02:53I'm like, Mary Morrissey had more success in business
- 1:02:56at 70 than all of her years prior to that combined.
- 1:03:00It's like, come on.
- 1:03:02My best years are totally ahead of me.
- 1:03:04And it's like, there's a guy who was doing
- 1:03:06a documentary called Your Second 50.
- 1:03:09And, you know, when I was chatting with him
- 1:03:11and he was at the Chain In Life Index conference, actually.
- 1:03:14And I was like, oh, you know, I'll introduce you to my dad
- 1:03:17because he's like, you know, I've been looking for somebody
- 1:03:19for this that would, you know,
- 1:03:19does race car driving and I'm like, oh, I got your eye.
- 1:03:21Like, great, I'm like, let me introduce you to him.
- 1:03:24And my dad's just like, well, why don't you do it?
- 1:03:26Like, you're turning 50.
- 1:03:26Like, why don't you talk to him?
- 1:03:27I'm like, one, I'm not a race car driver.
- 1:03:29I'm like, two, I'm actually going to do your third 50.
- 1:03:31Like, you can do your second.
- 1:03:34Like, I'll do the third 50.
- 1:03:35I got you.
- 1:03:36And it was like, cause it cost me nothing
- 1:03:39to have that frame of mind.
- 1:03:41Right?
- 1:03:42Like, cost me zero.
- 1:03:43Yeah, if you follow short, whatever.
- 1:03:45You know, aim for the stars, land on the moon.
- 1:03:46Like, that's cool.
- 1:03:47Like, yeah, still under planetary at that point, right?
- 1:03:49Like, I love it.
- 1:03:50But thank you so much for joining.
- 1:03:52Like, name so much.
- 1:03:53And I appreciate you being here.
- 1:03:55And for anybody who's looking to get ahold of the infamous
- 1:03:59JJ Virgin, I think most of you already know how to find JJ.
- 1:04:02But follow JJ, follow all her work.
- 1:04:05Pick up her new book.
- 1:04:072026 that will be coming to every bookstore
- 1:04:10everywhere in 2026.
- 1:04:11Absolutely.
- 1:04:12Well, I told Ben as Audi that when I go to a bookstore,
- 1:04:14I actually go sign some of his books.
- 1:04:16I'm like, I go autograph some of the books for you.
- 1:04:18Is there any signings?
- 1:04:19And he's like, wait, did you really do that?
- 1:04:21Of course I didn't.
- 1:04:22But maybe I'll go autographs in JJ books, too.
