- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Hello and welcome. She's on the Money the podcast and
- 1:01Speaker 2: millennials who want financial freedom Today, my friends, it is Friday,
- 1:05Speaker 2: which means it is Taylor Swift Day tomorrow. Yeay. Also,
- 1:10Speaker 2: we're mean to be getting our team together to celebrate you.
- 1:13Speaker 2: How incredible She's on the Money community and Taylor Swift,
- 1:16Speaker 2: which we are very very excited about. I don't know
- 1:19Speaker 2: if you know this, Beck, but like Jess and I,
- 1:20Speaker 2: what are we doing? We'll go to Taylor Swift? Really
- 1:24Speaker 2: did you? Did you know?
- 1:26Speaker 4: I had a feeling and it's just a slight suspicion.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I love it. I love It's all we've been talking about,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and now it's literally less than twenty four hours away.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But before we get there, we actually have some work
- 1:35Speaker 2: to do. We want to get through an entire Friday
- 1:37Speaker 2: episode of our podcast. Today, Miss Jess Gricci, she's going
- 1:41Speaker 2: to go through our favorite money wins. I wonder if
- 1:43Speaker 2: she's pulled out any Taylor Swift inspired ones. Beck, You're
- 1:46Speaker 2: going to be taking us through your broke tips. We're
- 1:49Speaker 2: going to be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma,
- 1:52Speaker 2: which of this week is all about pet insurance. I
- 1:54Speaker 2: feel like we haven't talked about that topic in a
- 1:56Speaker 2: very long time, and we're going to be unpacking something
- 1:59Speaker 2: that you slid into ours about always spicy, but this
- 2:02Speaker 2: week you ask if you should move in with your
- 2:04Speaker 2: in laws to save for a house. I feel like
- 2:08Speaker 2: there could be some pretty good pros and cons from
- 2:10Speaker 2: both of those. But before we get there, let's start
- 2:13Speaker 2: with you, Beck, because I know Jess has had a
- 2:15Speaker 2: good week and it's mainly due to anticipation. What has
- 2:18Speaker 2: your week.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Been like, my love, My week's been really nice, obviously,
- 2:22Speaker 4: Valentine's Day. Love is in the air and.
- 2:26Speaker 5: We know it.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Last week you did a little soft launch and said
- 2:29Speaker 2: I do have a date.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I do have date. It was really really really nice
- 2:34Speaker 4: and just like it was really cute and I love love.
- 2:40Speaker 4: So what did you do? So this is a little
- 2:42Speaker 4: bit spicy, but we do actually work together, and so
- 2:45Speaker 4: we work.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Our bosses are listening to this episode.
- 2:49Speaker 4: If you are my boss or someone that works with me,
- 2:53Speaker 4: please stop listening right now.
- 2:55Speaker 2: You didn't hear this, bye, Yeah, exactly.
- 2:57Speaker 4: No, it was really good. So we worked obviously in
- 2:59Speaker 4: the daytime together, which was really cute.
- 3:01Speaker 2: She's on the money team. Sadly, no, So like you
- 3:04Speaker 2: guys don't need to speculate about that, true, because I
- 3:07Speaker 2: don't know. Maybe they'd be like, hey, Jess, I thought
- 3:09Speaker 2: you had a boyfriend. Well, well you know.
- 3:13Speaker 4: When Valentine's Day comes around, people where different. But you know,
- 3:16Speaker 4: you love you just want to love love, you just
- 3:18Speaker 4: want to love them, exactly, exactly, exactly, No, it was
- 3:20Speaker 4: it was really cool, and so yes, we did work
- 3:23Speaker 4: all day together, and not a lot of people know,
- 3:25Speaker 4: so we had to pretend that we were just like
- 3:27Speaker 4: what's going on?
- 3:28Speaker 2: But really, but really you're like deeply enough, yes.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Exactly exactly. And then after that we just went to
- 3:34Speaker 4: a gallery, went walked around the city and had some
- 3:36Speaker 4: nice food and did all the nice like romantic.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Things you made, fortune cookies I did.
- 3:41Speaker 4: You might hear about that a little bit later.
- 3:42Speaker 2: My tip.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Sorry at all.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I love.
- 3:47Speaker 4: That's me.
- 3:47Speaker 2: That's the best. That's me, miss Jess. How's your week being?
- 3:50Speaker 6: It's been good, as you said, just the prep work,
- 3:53Speaker 6: finishing my outfit, making more braceless, really very excited.
- 4:00Speaker 4: How many bracelets do you have now?
- 4:02Speaker 2: Well?
- 4:03Speaker 6: I think I have about thirty maybe, but some of
- 4:07Speaker 6: those have been dibbed by Gabby and then I love that.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Gabby's just like, heyges, can you please do the hard yards?
- 4:16Speaker 6: Yeah? And I do thy maker, do that absolutely, I
- 4:18Speaker 6: will so. Yeah, not heats because you have to well
- 4:21Speaker 6: originally they said you had to wear them in it,
- 4:23Speaker 6: and they change their minds. But you trade them too,
- 4:25Speaker 6: so I thought, rather than collecting and collecting and halting,
- 4:28Speaker 6: I would rather just keep trading because I feel like
- 4:30Speaker 6: that's really fun.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I have questions. So I've seen on TikTok so many
- 4:33Speaker 2: women making their bracelets right, which sligh like I wish
- 4:36Speaker 2: I had time for it, because I feel like that
- 4:38Speaker 2: would be a fun activity. We also seeing so many
- 4:40Speaker 2: girl date nights where they're drinking a little like little
- 4:43Speaker 2: wine and making bracelets together, and I was like, why
- 4:46Speaker 2: didn't we do that, Jessica. That's very US coded, and
- 4:48Speaker 2: we don't do it. But I keep seeing people with
- 4:51Speaker 2: like hundreds of bracelets, Like what are you doing with them?
- 4:53Speaker 2: Are you like gifting them away? Are you trading them?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Once you're done at the concert? Do you then have, like,
- 4:58Speaker 2: I don't know, one hundred and fifty bracelet so you
- 5:00Speaker 2: bring home, Like, jess what's the point.
- 5:02Speaker 6: Yeah, Well, some people have been making these little dio
- 5:04Speaker 6: eyes with this shadow frame box to get a kmart
- 5:07Speaker 6: and they put like their ticket in the box and
- 5:08Speaker 6: they're going to store them for like the memes or
- 5:11Speaker 6: people might wear them. But I think, like, I wouldn't
- 5:13Speaker 6: need hundreds. I wouldn't know what to do with it,
- 5:15Speaker 6: which is why I thought I'll make less and then
- 5:17Speaker 6: just trade, and I assume that some of them you'll
- 5:20Speaker 6: give away, and you know, between gabs and you whatever.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I'm excited. I'm so excited. I don't even have any
- 5:25Speaker 2: bracelets to trade. I think I'll just be standing next
- 5:27Speaker 2: to Jess while she's trading, clapping like a little like
- 5:30Speaker 2: monkey toy, being like, yeah, this is so fun.
- 5:33Speaker 6: That's all right, I'll bring you some too.
- 5:34Speaker 4: It's cute tradition.
- 5:36Speaker 6: It's very fun.
- 5:37Speaker 4: How does it even start?
- 5:38Speaker 6: Because there's a line in one of the songs that
- 5:39Speaker 6: says make the friendship bracelets, and so.
- 5:41Speaker 2: People started trading.
- 5:43Speaker 4: That is so wholesome.
- 5:44Speaker 2: It is all right, love love, I love Taylor Swift.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I feel like all of these things go together, just
- 5:49Speaker 2: to go weak love story.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and how's your week being?
- 5:52Speaker 2: My week has been good. I have not been nearly
- 5:54Speaker 2: as active as you guys. My husband decided that maybe
- 5:58Speaker 2: I was a little bit too pregnant to go out
- 6:00Speaker 2: for dinner on Valentine's Day, and I was like, oh, okay, yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 2: that's fair. But I had a really big day at
- 6:06Speaker 2: work and then I came home and he made a
- 6:07Speaker 2: little picnic. Yeah sweet, and we had it on our
- 6:11Speaker 2: back garden and that was very wholesome. But yes, he
- 6:14Speaker 2: is correct, I was too pregnant to go out. If
- 6:16Speaker 2: he had mentioned it, I think I would have had
- 6:18Speaker 2: a breakdown.
- 6:19Speaker 4: That's so fair.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I would have been like, absolutely not.
- 6:21Speaker 6: We love a man that knows we do.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So let's move on because it's not all about me.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I want to know Jess more about the community. What
- 6:29Speaker 2: community money wins he bringing to the table today, and
- 6:32Speaker 2: are they Taylor Swift themed? You know what?
- 6:35Speaker 6: There wasn't a lot about Taylor Swift this week. I
- 6:37Speaker 6: feel like everyone is just prepping in anticipation.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Don't imagine that you would be able to find many
- 6:42Speaker 4: money saving hacks when it comes to Tail Swift because
- 6:44Speaker 4: the ticks are expensive. You can't really get tickets, Like.
- 6:46Speaker 6: They didn't know the drop this week?
- 6:48Speaker 4: You believed that, Oh my goodness, what ticket drop?
- 6:50Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 6:51Speaker 2: Like an extra one?
- 6:51Speaker 6: Like I don't know where the tickets came from because
- 6:53Speaker 6: they've been sold out for.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Sure, But I don't know where they came from either.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I saw that on socials and so excuse me what?
- 7:01Speaker 2: And they did like a bit of a money win
- 7:02Speaker 2: though they did start at sixty five dollars fifty, which
- 7:05Speaker 2: I thought was really accessible.
- 7:06Speaker 6: That is a bargain.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Wow, So I feel like so many people obviously they
- 7:09Speaker 2: would have been absolutely snapped up in point two seconds. Sure, yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 2: what would you say, Jess? We invested in our tickets.
- 7:18Speaker 2: It's an investment.
- 7:19Speaker 6: It was an investment in our joy and it's money
- 7:21Speaker 6: well spent.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's aligned to our values.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Yes.
- 7:24Speaker 2: And by aligned to our values, I mean Jess's ticket
- 7:27Speaker 2: was free because it was aligned to my values to
- 7:29Speaker 2: make sure she came with me.
- 7:30Speaker 6: I love that money.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Whin.
- 7:34Speaker 3: That's money whin.
- 7:35Speaker 5: All right.
- 7:35Speaker 6: My first money in this week is actually Taylor swift
- 7:37Speaker 6: themed from Alyssa, who said I accidentally left my friendship
- 7:41Speaker 6: bracelet making to the last minute the week the concert,
- 7:44Speaker 6: and now it is so hard to find good beads
- 7:47Speaker 6: and string. Not once, but twice this week. I've been
- 7:50Speaker 6: lucky enough to score a heap of free beads and
- 7:52Speaker 6: string from other swifties who have finished making this.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Oh that's a good money win.
- 7:56Speaker 6: It also saved me money because I spent the weekend
- 7:58Speaker 6: making bracelets instead of going out and spending money that
- 8:01Speaker 6: they shouldn't be spending.
- 8:02Speaker 4: That love that's girl math.
- 8:03Speaker 6: Swifties are so good, like they are just the kind
- 8:06Speaker 6: of people to be like, I'm done, you have it,
- 8:08Speaker 6: you take it. Yeah, we love to see it. Next,
- 8:11Speaker 6: I've got a money win from Tory, who said, pro
- 8:13Speaker 6: I picked up an extra Sunday shift at work. Con
- 8:16Speaker 6: I have to work said Sunday shift, and I have
- 8:18Speaker 6: mad regrets, but I see you with the pro a
- 8:20Speaker 6: Sunday shift that double pay or pays still.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Get pay in a half.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Maybe in hospital, certain industries maybe I'm not sure, but it.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Was the entire reason I would happily work very hungover
- 8:33Speaker 2: when I was much younger, because I'd have my Sunday
- 8:36Speaker 2: eleven till five shift Steve Madden the shoe store on
- 8:39Speaker 2: Chapel Street, and I just remember feeling so violently ill
- 8:43Speaker 2: the entire time because I was a very very well
- 8:46Speaker 2: balanced adult and definitely year how to manage my time.
- 8:49Speaker 2: But every second that I was like I wish I
- 8:51Speaker 2: wasn't here, I would then remember.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Double pay pay baby. That doesn't sound like an open
- 8:55Speaker 4: all closed shift as well, which.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Is no, no, no, it was. It was both. It was
- 8:59Speaker 2: like limited training hours. Otherwise it was usually like ten
- 9:03Speaker 2: till six, So ten till six on a Saturday, and
- 9:05Speaker 2: then I do eleven till five on a Sunday, and
- 9:07Speaker 2: I'd always make more money on the Sunday doing less time.
- 9:10Speaker 2: He love that.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Love that.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Next, I've got a money in from Rachel who said,
- 9:13Speaker 6: I paid off and canceled the dreaded evil after pay today.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Get it? How liberating though, just knowing that you not
- 9:22Speaker 2: only don't have that debt anymore, but you're just like,
- 9:24Speaker 2: I don't need you.
- 9:26Speaker 6: One hundred dre it. Then I've got a money in
- 9:28Speaker 6: here from Nicole, who said money in. My son got
- 9:30Speaker 6: his license on Wednesday. WI who to petrol and insurance
- 9:34Speaker 6: savings because he's going to pay for it himself now
- 9:36Speaker 6: that he's eighteen.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Great, he's not going to see what's coming though he
- 9:39Speaker 2: doesn't know how expensive that is.
- 9:42Speaker 6: For the shock of your whole life.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Fine free and we're like, from what exactly financial way
- 9:49Speaker 2: heavier than being.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Able to drive exactly.
- 9:51Speaker 6: And then lastly, I've got money in this week from Rachel,
- 9:54Speaker 6: who said money win. We celebrated my son's third birthday
- 9:57Speaker 6: and normally I would order a cake that would cost
- 9:59Speaker 6: between one hundred and twenty one hundred and fifty dollars.
- 10:01Speaker 6: I decided to make it and it cost me thirty
- 10:04Speaker 6: five dollars instead, including the decorations. And you know we
- 10:07Speaker 6: have a photo. Oh that's cue and that money like
- 10:10Speaker 6: that it looks really good. Go have a look at
- 10:12Speaker 6: the thread for Rachel's cake because it looks fantastic.
- 10:15Speaker 4: How do people just do that? That's incredible, delicious? I
- 10:18Speaker 4: love that amazing.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I reckon, you'd be good at that.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Beck.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I feel like you're good at everything. You're always good. Ah,
- 10:23Speaker 2: You're like, oh, I made Fortune cookies, and I'm like,
- 10:25Speaker 2: of course you did. I didn't.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Like.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Jess and I just looked at each other and we're like, how.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Though, Yeah, it takes a lot of patience.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but like you're resourceful, you could make a cake
- 10:34Speaker 2: like that for sure? Is that it's Jess Green.
- 10:37Speaker 6: That's I'm excited to hear more about the Fortune cookies.
- 10:39Speaker 4: True?
- 10:40Speaker 2: So I brought that up too early? Did I spoil
- 10:42Speaker 2: the broke tips?
- 10:43Speaker 4: Don't be sorry at all. Actually I'm glad that you did.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Let's say that to the end of the broake tips though,
- 10:48Speaker 2: good idea, give us two and then we want to
- 10:50Speaker 2: hear about your fortune cookies.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Perfect. So, as always, there are two from the community
- 10:54Speaker 4: and one from myself. So the first broke Tip comes
- 10:56Speaker 4: from Kim, who says, and it's actually good on few
- 10:58Speaker 4: v because I know that you say that sometimes literally
- 11:00Speaker 4: go home because an avocado is going off that's me.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Kim says, you can't. That's so fair. But if you
- 11:07Speaker 4: try this, maybe you could spend the night at the
- 11:10Speaker 4: pub or something. I can't imagine you're doing that, but.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I'm literally like so pregnant at the moment. It's not
- 11:16Speaker 2: funny like her, guys hard to watch me not just
- 11:19Speaker 2: get on the chair, but heave myself onto this chair
- 11:22Speaker 2: to record this episode.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Scary. Actually, I was like, maybe we have to deliver today.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I really hope not, I swear. Jess is literally like
- 11:31Speaker 2: every second like are you going to labor? And I'm
- 11:34Speaker 2: like no, and then she's like, what about Taylor Swift?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Are you gonna go into labor? And I'm like kind
- 11:38Speaker 2: of hope. So so, just in my head, I have
- 11:40Speaker 2: this idea that it would be hilarious to turn up
- 11:43Speaker 2: at the birthing sweets at the hospital that I'm giving
- 11:45Speaker 2: birth at in my Taylor Swift get up. I'll be
- 11:48Speaker 2: in like a dazzled white cowboy boots like her, fancy
- 11:52Speaker 2: like dress. I'll have my cowboy hat. There's probably gonna
- 11:54Speaker 2: be a lot of glitter on my face, and I'll
- 11:56Speaker 2: be like are you ready? Sorry?
- 11:58Speaker 4: Yeah, that would be very very good.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Let's go girls. I'm ready. I'm kind of.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Ready for you to go into labor before the end
- 12:04Speaker 4: of this episode. But we'll see. Sorry, So Kim says,
- 12:07Speaker 4: sick of avocado is going yuck once you cut them
- 12:09Speaker 4: and only use half. Yes, Kim, we are put them
- 12:12Speaker 4: in a bottle of water. It stops the air getting
- 12:14Speaker 4: in and keeps them from going brown. So cut them
- 12:17Speaker 4: in half.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Smart.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I never thought of that. Yeah, trying to like glad
- 12:20Speaker 2: wrap them shut and make sure it's like completely sealed.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Telling me you.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Could just put it in water, could just put it
- 12:27Speaker 4: in water exactly, So yeah, there you go, just truck
- 12:29Speaker 4: them in some water.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I feel like that's like so smart. Yet I am
- 12:33Speaker 2: not smart, So I never worked that out.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Ideal breake tip so easy to execute, but so good,
- 12:40Speaker 6: and like.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I don't want to get canceled literally on my own podcast.
- 12:42Speaker 2: But I throw away so many half avocados because they
- 12:45Speaker 2: go a little bit dang, And I I know, I know,
- 12:47Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 12:48Speaker 4: It's okay, I'm sorry.
- 12:49Speaker 2: What's your next broke tip before you get in trouble?
- 12:51Speaker 4: It's compost, so isn't it at the end of the day? Okay,
- 12:54Speaker 4: So This next one comes from Hannah. This one's a
- 12:56Speaker 4: little bit dangerous, actually, but.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I'm gonna be trying this stranger danger.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Dangerous because I just I don't know if I'll ever
- 13:02Speaker 4: be able to stop myself from doing this. So Hanna
- 13:05Speaker 4: says she discovered this hacket UNI after a drunk hend out.
- 13:07Speaker 4: If you go into Dominoes after nine PM or close
- 13:10Speaker 4: to the closing time and ask if they have any leftovers,
- 13:13Speaker 4: usually like garlic bread or orders people didn't pick up,
- 13:16Speaker 4: they will usually give it to you for free. So
- 13:17Speaker 4: she's done this about five times and it's worked every time.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I'm like, what, who would have thought?
- 13:23Speaker 2: I didn't think she did. What a genius.
- 13:26Speaker 4: That is really clever and that, Like, you know, why
- 13:28Speaker 4: wouldn't you? You know what I mean? Like if I
- 13:29Speaker 4: was working in Dominoes, I was going to chuck some
- 13:31Speaker 4: garlic bread out and someone.
- 13:32Speaker 2: If I was working in Dominoes, I'd be trying to
- 13:34Speaker 2: I'd be taking take that home.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you could do that. Actually I didn't think
- 13:38Speaker 4: of it.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Maybe they're over eating garlic bread every night, you'd be
- 13:42Speaker 2: sick of it. Yeah, they're sharing. I like that. Dominoes
- 13:45Speaker 2: is probably not going to be that happy with us
- 13:46Speaker 2: sharing that. But you get what you get and you
- 13:48Speaker 2: don't get upset.
- 13:49Speaker 4: But fortune cookies, oh yes, okay, the money we well,
- 13:54Speaker 4: did you like open a fortune cookie and it said
- 13:56Speaker 4: you'd be real rich one day and then you won
- 13:58Speaker 4: the lotto? Oh look you know how I have the
- 14:00Speaker 4: lottery numbers at the back. Yeah yeah, yeah, No, I
- 14:03Speaker 4: didn't win, but it was fun. It was fun, and
- 14:06Speaker 4: I wasted a lot of money. But I think that
- 14:08Speaker 4: I will win one day just based off those fortune
- 14:11Speaker 4: cookie numbers. We'll say. I'll keep you guys posted. Okay,
- 14:13Speaker 4: So no my fortune cookie broke tip is it's actually
- 14:17Speaker 4: really cheap and kind of cute, if I do say
- 14:21Speaker 4: so myself. Gift ideas one was a Valentine's Day but
- 14:24Speaker 4: you can use it for whatever, whoever, whenever, and for
- 14:27Speaker 4: any occasion. So basically all of the ingredients that you
- 14:30Speaker 4: need are actually all pantry staples. So flour sugar, I can,
- 14:34Speaker 4: and I can give you the actual recipe that I want.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Special recipes fortune cookies, very authentic, I feel cue.
- 14:43Speaker 4: So it was really just flour, sugar, egg, and a
- 14:46Speaker 4: bit of vanilla extract and water as well, sorry, water
- 14:49Speaker 4: as well, and then you get literally any kind of paper,
- 14:52Speaker 4: any kind of pen whatever you can find around the house,
- 14:54Speaker 4: just some sort of panel pencil and some sort of
- 14:56Speaker 4: writing whatever you can find back of a receipt. I
- 14:59Speaker 4: don't mind. So it is actually really easy and so quick.
- 15:02Speaker 4: It took me like ten minutes. All the ingredients altogether
- 15:04Speaker 4: cost me about fifteen dollars, and that was like literally
- 15:07Speaker 4: starting from nothing. But I assume a lot of people
- 15:09Speaker 4: already sugar all that kind of stuff in their pantry,
- 15:13Speaker 4: so hopefully cost less than that. But for me, buying
- 15:17Speaker 4: everything from scratch was like fifteen bucks. So and honestly,
- 15:21Speaker 4: I think it's like the cutest gift.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I think it's really wholesome and romantic.
- 15:25Speaker 6: The way you can write whatever you want, like you
- 15:26Speaker 6: had a little poem or a little saying or a little surprised.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I love that she said she puts receipts. She's like
- 15:33Speaker 2: on the back of a receipt. All right, So I'm
- 15:35Speaker 2: going to make fortune cookies for you guys of the
- 15:38Speaker 2: receipts of what I'm spending on you guys, and then
- 15:40Speaker 2: I'm going to give you the fortune cookie.
- 15:42Speaker 4: And yeah, use recycle totally. Yeah, it will be flower
- 15:46Speaker 4: sugar egg on.
- 15:47Speaker 2: The just so you know, this cost me fifteen dollars
- 15:51Speaker 2: and that's really wholesome, way more romantic than both of
- 15:55Speaker 2: our partners combined.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Oh well, that's what you made, that's what you what
- 16:00Speaker 4: you get, we get it.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I love that.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Thank you so much. Cookie cookies. I do recommend. It's
- 16:09Speaker 4: very cute. It's actually not too hard. But you can
- 16:11Speaker 4: find this all on YouTube. And also I'll give you,
- 16:13Speaker 4: guys the actual recipe. We can put it on stories.
- 16:16Speaker 4: We'll put it on Stories. I think that's really wholesome.
- 16:18Speaker 4: That's my brick tip.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Love it, but you have to wait an entire year
- 16:20Speaker 2: to use it next Valentine's Day. So all right, let's
- 16:24Speaker 2: go to a really quick break on the flip side.
- 16:26Speaker 2: We're going to be talking about pet insurance, whether it's
- 16:29Speaker 2: worth it, whether it's not. And we're also unpacking something
- 16:32Speaker 2: you slid into our DMS, about which this week you
- 16:35Speaker 2: ask if you should be moving in with your in
- 16:36Speaker 2: laws to save some cash. So guys, don't go anywhere.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 16:47Speaker 6: money dilemma.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just

- 17:07Speaker 2: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 17:09Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Hi, Team, I need some help with pet insurance. I
- 17:17Speaker 5: have a one year old sausage dog, and on top
- 17:21Speaker 5: of desexing and the standard things you paid for like
- 17:25Speaker 5: worming and stuff, he's had two instances we've had to
- 17:28Speaker 5: take him to the vet urgently. The first time was
- 17:31Speaker 5: cost four hundred dollars, the second time seven hundred dollars.
- 17:34Speaker 5: Luckily we've had an emergency fund to cover this, so
- 17:37Speaker 5: that was fine. But it's made me think, to any
- 17:39Speaker 5: pensurance I'm all about. I know Victoria always says get
- 17:44Speaker 5: insurance like that's really important, and I'm on board with
- 17:47Speaker 5: every other insurance. But for some reason, I'm not convinced
- 17:51Speaker 5: by pensurance. I think because it often says they don't
- 17:55Speaker 5: cover everything. Please help.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I think this is a really good question, and she's
- 18:00Speaker 2: said that she has a little dashound. I'm obsessed with
- 18:03Speaker 2: sausage dogs, like I literally follow on Instagram and TikTok
- 18:08Speaker 2: you got a dashound? Great, I probably follow you. I
- 18:11Speaker 2: just want to see their little noodly bodies doing noodlely
- 18:13Speaker 2: things like oh, I actually lose my mind when I
- 18:16Speaker 2: see them at the park. Like anyway, Thankfully, I've got
- 18:19Speaker 2: a dog as well, so it just looks like my
- 18:21Speaker 2: dog's interested in talking to your dog. It's not like
- 18:24Speaker 2: I've primed her. I'm like, you see a dashound, you
- 18:26Speaker 2: need to go down there and make friends with it
- 18:28Speaker 2: so I can less awkward, right, thank you. But pet insurance,
- 18:33Speaker 2: so it's one of those things where you could take
- 18:35Speaker 2: it or you could leave it. It's completely up to
- 18:37Speaker 2: you personally. We have it, but we have it for Lucy,
- 18:40Speaker 2: but not for my cat. So Lucy is my dog,
- 18:43Speaker 2: and the reason is because she's always out and about,
- 18:45Speaker 2: like I feel like her risk level is much higher.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Cats are arguably a bit more resistant. Mine a mixed breed,
- 18:50Speaker 2: so they're not you know, these pure bred cats who
- 18:54Speaker 2: are you know, predisposed to more genetic conditions same as Lucy,
- 18:58Speaker 2: though she's a mix, so at the end of the day,
- 19:00Speaker 2: she's less predisposed. But dashound is very predisposed to stuff
- 19:05Speaker 2: like hip display show. Right, I'm not a vet, just
- 19:07Speaker 2: know it exists because I've got a couple of friends
- 19:09Speaker 2: who have them. In Australia, a dashound can cost up
- 19:12Speaker 2: to six five hundred dollars in Australia to actually just
- 19:15Speaker 2: purchase as the pet to begin with, which is a
- 19:19Speaker 2: very substantial I would say initial investment in getting a
- 19:22Speaker 2: pet like wild. Anyway, we're also not having a conversation
- 19:26Speaker 2: about adopt, don't shop all of that right now. This
- 19:28Speaker 2: is actually just about pet insurance, not about how you
- 19:30Speaker 2: acquire it. I'm just giving you some financial information and
- 19:33Speaker 2: then pet insurance every month. Because different breeds carry different
- 19:38Speaker 2: levels of risk. So I've looked this up for you.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Pet insurance can cost anywhere between fifty seven dollars and
- 19:44Speaker 2: twenty three cents a month all the way up to
- 19:46Speaker 2: two hundred and thirteen dollars and six cents a month. Wow,
- 19:50Speaker 2: So that's a big difference. But the problem here, I
- 19:53Speaker 2: think is yes, some things are going to be excluded,
- 19:57Speaker 2: and they're going to be excluded because thatarticular breed is
- 20:01Speaker 2: going to be more predisposed to having a particular issue,
- 20:04Speaker 2: right like, And if the insurance company knows dashounds have
- 20:08Speaker 2: really bad you know, history of hip displacier, they're going
- 20:11Speaker 2: to go, well, i'll cover everything for you, but do
- 20:14Speaker 2: we really need to cover the thing that's most likely
- 20:16Speaker 2: to happen? And while that's not a good or a
- 20:18Speaker 2: bad thing, it means you need to deep dive into
- 20:20Speaker 2: your insurance. And I wouldn't just pick a policy online,
- 20:24Speaker 2: so I would have a look online. We currently have
- 20:26Speaker 2: our insurance through bow Wow Meo. I don't know if
- 20:29Speaker 2: anyone cares, but that worked the best for us. Also,
- 20:32Speaker 2: cute name. That's a very cute name, very cute name.
- 20:35Speaker 2: But I would do some research. And what I did
- 20:37Speaker 2: when I was getting it everything online looked great. But
- 20:40Speaker 2: I called them as well and just you know, tick
- 20:42Speaker 2: some boxes and said, what are the things that I'm
- 20:44Speaker 2: definitely not going to get like with this type of dog, Like,
- 20:47Speaker 2: what have you seen as being you know, the biggest issues?
- 20:49Speaker 2: What do I need to foresee? So I think that's
- 20:53Speaker 2: really important as well. But you've also disclosed to me
- 20:56Speaker 2: that there have been some issues in your dog's life.
- 20:59Speaker 2: That you've already had to pay for, so you might
- 21:02Speaker 2: have to disclose those when applying for pet insurance and
- 21:05Speaker 2: they might go, well, because your dog already has a
- 21:07Speaker 2: broken X, we're not going to cover that X. It's
- 21:10Speaker 2: the same as human insurance.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:12Speaker 2: A couple of weeks ago, we're talking about you, Jessica,
- 21:14Speaker 2: and how you have a not so great knee, and
- 21:17Speaker 2: we know that when jess did her personal insurances, the
- 21:20Speaker 2: insurer was like, great, Jess, I'd love to cover you
- 21:22Speaker 2: for literally everything except your right knee. And jess was like, okay, fair,
- 21:27Speaker 2: my right knee's pretty cooked and something's probably gonna happen
- 21:29Speaker 2: to it. And I know that risk there, So does
- 21:31Speaker 2: that make sense? So it's really up to you. I mean,
- 21:35Speaker 2: if you're going to ensure a pet, I would be
- 21:38Speaker 2: talking to the insurer about like, all right, well, puppy
- 21:40Speaker 2: might be cheap, but like, how long can I ensure them?
- 21:43Speaker 2: Some companies will only ensure a pet up until eight
- 21:46Speaker 2: years old, some ten, some longer. You just need to
- 21:49Speaker 2: know the semantics. Also, what are the increased insurance costs
- 21:53Speaker 2: every year? Is that fifty seven? Because you've got a
- 21:55Speaker 2: one year old and then the two hundred because you've
- 21:57Speaker 2: got an eight year old, in which case had you've
- 22:00Speaker 2: done a bit of a cost benefit analysis and worked
- 22:03Speaker 2: out what that actually is going to look like over
- 22:05Speaker 2: the lifetime of the pet. Because I have a lot
- 22:07Speaker 2: of friends and we have a lot of community members
- 22:09Speaker 2: who are like, do you know what, I'd prefer to
- 22:11Speaker 2: put X amount into a savings account each and every
- 22:14Speaker 2: single month and just forget about it and have a
- 22:17Speaker 2: pet emergency fund and if it doesn't get used, money
- 22:20Speaker 2: when I have more money on the side. So it's
- 22:22Speaker 2: up to you guys. Do you guys have any pet advice?
- 22:25Speaker 2: Not really.
- 22:26Speaker 6: I think like, given you know that dashounds have those
- 22:29Speaker 6: pre existing conditions, I think it's definitely worth looking into
- 22:31Speaker 6: it because I think that from what I've heard, some
- 22:34Speaker 6: of the surgeries that they might need can be in
- 22:37Speaker 6: the thousands and thousands of dollars, And you don't want
- 22:39Speaker 6: to find yourself if you can avoid it in a
- 22:41Speaker 6: position where you're trying to decide, you know, is it
- 22:44Speaker 6: quote unquote worth it to spend that money to save
- 22:47Speaker 6: the pet or to improve their quality of life? Because
- 22:50Speaker 6: I think that that's a really devastating choice.
- 22:52Speaker 2: To have to make.
- 22:53Speaker 6: So I think it's definitely well worth looking into, but
- 22:55Speaker 6: it really depends on what kind of policy you can
- 22:57Speaker 6: get and whether it will work out to be worth.
- 22:59Speaker 2: It or yeah, I think it's genuinely worth you doing
- 23:02Speaker 2: the research. I feel like sometimes we get questions from
- 23:05Speaker 2: people being like, is it really worth it the and
- 23:07Speaker 2: the reality is you need to do your own research
- 23:10Speaker 2: to work out if it's worth it for you. Because
- 23:12Speaker 2: for me, I look at it and go I don't
- 23:14Speaker 2: think it's worth it for my cats personally, but I
- 23:17Speaker 2: did think it was worth it for my dog, And
- 23:19Speaker 2: at some point I might be like, this is getting
- 23:22Speaker 2: astronomical in terms of costs. I'm just going to put
- 23:25Speaker 2: some cash away and you know, cancel Lucy's insurance and
- 23:29Speaker 2: we'll deal with it in cash when that happens. So
- 23:32Speaker 2: I think it's really about working out your own financial
- 23:35Speaker 2: situation and the risk because Jess, for you as well,
- 23:38Speaker 2: you have to indoor cats the same as I do.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I feel like, if a really big unexpected cost came up,
- 23:45Speaker 2: I know that you're one in the financial position, you
- 23:47Speaker 2: have an emergency fund, you could pay for it. I
- 23:49Speaker 2: think you'd prefer that than to be losing one hundred
- 23:51Speaker 2: and fifty bucks a month on insurance. Yeah, so like,
- 23:54Speaker 2: I'm not saying that there's a right or wrong. It's
- 23:56Speaker 2: all about like what you're comfortable with, because that might,
- 23:58Speaker 2: you know, give you crippling anxiety at night because they're
- 24:01Speaker 2: not insured. So it's it's completely up to you.
- 24:05Speaker 4: I guess, like, I don't really I don't have pets
- 24:07Speaker 4: at all. But my best friend just bought a little
- 24:09Speaker 4: doggie which was really cute.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Oh really, Oh my god, No, I did know that.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I saw it on Instagram. Yes, so cut.
- 24:15Speaker 4: She's very sweet, she's very very cute. But I guess,
- 24:17Speaker 4: like I just have a story that's kind of maybe
- 24:20Speaker 4: like fear mongering, but also I'm with u V that
- 24:23Speaker 4: it does depend on your own personal situation. But a
- 24:25Speaker 4: couple of friends of mine, one of them got a
- 24:27Speaker 4: dog and one the other friend got the exact same breed.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Maybe like a couple of weeks later. For the sake
- 24:33Speaker 4: of this story, let's say Jen and Harry. So Jen
- 24:37Speaker 4: was telling yeah, Jen and Harry. Jen was telling Harry
- 24:40Speaker 4: to get pet insurance because her dog same breed broke
- 24:43Speaker 4: her leg just like a couple of days prior. Harry said,
- 24:46Speaker 4: I don't really need it. I don't think I'm gonna
- 24:48Speaker 4: be getting it. That same day, Harry's dog broke her
- 24:52Speaker 4: leg and Harry didn't have pet.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Be out here fear mongering, don't you?
- 24:58Speaker 4: I really do be but I gets chances it was
- 25:01Speaker 4: actually it's actually.
- 25:02Speaker 7: A great leg is not doctor, shouldn't just break legs
- 25:06Speaker 7: if my parents' dog broke her leg? Like I feel
- 25:08Speaker 7: like doing what she was jumping up onto the deck
- 25:12Speaker 7: and ncapped herself.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, sorry, sorry.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Sorry that sounds so painful.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and then she kind of gaslit everybody and was
- 25:21Speaker 2: hobbling around being like I'm fine, I'm fine.
- 25:23Speaker 5: We took her to the.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Not fine, I'm fine, fine baby. So I guess like
- 25:27Speaker 4: all that to say, run the numbers and don't listen
- 25:30Speaker 4: to this female green story. But because it might not
- 25:32Speaker 4: happen to you ever.
- 25:33Speaker 2: I'm glad it's on our podcast now.
- 25:35Speaker 4: But New Fear Unlocked.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Oh, you're welcome, You're welcome. This is what She's on
- 25:39Speaker 2: the money exists for. She's on the money also kind
- 25:42Speaker 2: of exists for drama as well, like just god, yeah,
- 25:45Speaker 2: like we don't want to be the drama. We just
- 25:47Speaker 2: want to watch your drama, which is why we do
- 25:49Speaker 2: our money dilemma and in this week's money dilemma, are
- 25:52Speaker 2: you ready for it? Yeah? All right, let's go. So
- 25:55Speaker 2: we got a DM this week and it sounded a
- 25:57Speaker 2: lot like this. Hi, ladies, I'm planning on moving in
- 26:00Speaker 2: to my boyfriend's parents' house to save some money to
- 26:02Speaker 2: purchase our own property. It's so kind of his parents
- 26:06Speaker 2: to offer, and he thinks it's a great idea to
- 26:08Speaker 2: save some cash. Whilst I understand the financial benefits of it,
- 26:12Speaker 2: I'm not sure I want to share my space with
- 26:14Speaker 2: my partner's parents, and worry it'll put a strain on
- 26:17Speaker 2: all of our relationships. I'm not overly close with them,
- 26:21Speaker 2: and I would feel uncomfortable in their space. I'm also
- 26:24Speaker 2: a beautician who takes appointments from home, and his parents
- 26:27Speaker 2: have said they don't feel comfortable with this, so I'll
- 26:30Speaker 2: have to find a spot to rent to continue my work.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Do I just suck it up and move in with them?
- 26:35Speaker 2: Should I be prioritizing my future and financial goals even
- 26:38Speaker 2: if it means I have to live in a not
- 26:40Speaker 2: ideal situation for a while. Please send some help. And
- 26:45Speaker 2: then she did the little melting emoji fas good emoji
- 26:49Speaker 2: for that.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, perfect, that's what I'm feeling.
- 26:51Speaker 2: What'd you do back?
- 26:52Speaker 4: This is a really tough one, but I think that, like,
- 26:55Speaker 4: you know, but this is me, Like I'm historically and
- 26:59Speaker 4: consistantly not great with money, and so I would absolutely
- 27:04Speaker 4: prioritize my own happiness over hitting your financial goal sooner
- 27:08Speaker 4: than anticipated. Although I guess it really does depend on
- 27:13Speaker 4: your priorities and like if that's something that really keeps
- 27:15Speaker 4: you up atn ID or that if that's something that
- 27:17Speaker 4: you're really really wanting to work toward, or that's you know,
- 27:20Speaker 4: if that's the top of your priority and you are
- 27:23Speaker 4: willing to sacrifice your comfort and maybe like kind of
- 27:26Speaker 4: happiness for a little while, then maybe, in her words,
- 27:30Speaker 4: suck it up, not in my words, but yeah, I
- 27:33Speaker 4: would always prioritize my own comfort and happiness, even if
- 27:38Speaker 4: that means that my goals are further away from me,
- 27:41Speaker 4: you know what I mean. But hey, that's just me,
- 27:44Speaker 4: and I don't know if i'd listened to me, because
- 27:46Speaker 4: I am always a little bit broke, so you'll.
- 27:50Speaker 6: T I Actually I agree with you. We've answered a
- 27:53Speaker 6: question very similar to this kind of recently, and I
- 27:56Speaker 6: think my answer then was different because this person has
- 27:59Speaker 6: the element of their home business, which our original question didn't.
- 28:04Speaker 6: I think if it was just a matter of saving money,
- 28:07Speaker 6: I kind of would go, yeah, suck it up for
- 28:09Speaker 6: a little bit, make it work. But I think given
- 28:11Speaker 6: that you're going to have to rent a space, moving
- 28:14Speaker 6: in with his parents may not actually put you ahead
- 28:16Speaker 6: financially all that significantly, depending on how much it costs
- 28:20Speaker 6: to lease a space versus how much you're currently paying
- 28:23Speaker 6: in rent. So I think there, I go, well, if
- 28:27Speaker 6: you're saving is not as significant, and do you think
- 28:31Speaker 6: you're going to be really unhappy? I personally probably would
- 28:34Speaker 6: consider keeping your current arrangement, maybe looking to downsize the
- 28:38Speaker 6: house that you're renting in if that's an option, or
- 28:40Speaker 6: move to a different area that's a bit more affordable
- 28:43Speaker 6: to kind of meet that break even point, because yeah,
- 28:47Speaker 6: I think your happiness is very important, and given that
- 28:49Speaker 6: you are still going to have to spend money on rent,
- 28:51Speaker 6: which I assume would still be a pretty significant amount
- 28:54Speaker 6: of money even if you're just renting like a chair
- 28:55Speaker 6: in and an existing saloon or something, I don't know
- 28:58Speaker 6: how much further ahead would put you. And then if
- 29:01Speaker 6: you're worried about the friction on top of that, you know,
- 29:04Speaker 6: I think happiness is something that is also important.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I agree, I agree. I'm going to go full finance
- 29:10Speaker 2: nerd on you. Have you done the maths? Have you
- 29:12Speaker 2: worked it out? What's the financial benefit? Genuinely? What is
- 29:15Speaker 2: the financial benefit? So if you've sat down and done
- 29:18Speaker 2: your budget for this year and you know that rent
- 29:20Speaker 2: is going to cost X and you know bill is
- 29:22Speaker 2: going to cost why what is going to actually be
- 29:25Speaker 2: saved if you move into this new situation which you're
- 29:28Speaker 2: uncomfortable about it, But let's put that aside for a
- 29:30Speaker 2: hot second and actually just focus on the mathematics of it,
- 29:33Speaker 2: because that's what you're kind of weighing up anyway. What
- 29:37Speaker 2: would it look like to move into you know, your
- 29:39Speaker 2: mother in law's house? Like for me, I'd be like, yeah, slay,
- 29:42Speaker 2: she's basically the female version of Steve and I love
- 29:44Speaker 2: Steve Flack. I'd move in a heartbeat. What a win.
- 29:47Speaker 2: But not everybody is like that, So work out the
- 29:50Speaker 2: financial benefit. How much would it cost to actually, you know,
- 29:53Speaker 2: you said you're a beautaition, how much would it cost
- 29:55Speaker 2: to rent a chair?
- 29:57Speaker 1: Like?
- 29:57Speaker 2: I know that that's not putting you in the quote
- 29:59Speaker 2: best possible position, but I'm going to make a grand
- 30:02Speaker 2: assumption that renting a chair in a salon is much
- 30:04Speaker 2: cheaper than renting a whole house. So you know, are
- 30:08Speaker 2: you doing that five days a week? Maybe you're doing
- 30:10Speaker 2: it two or three? Like, I don't know what that
- 30:11Speaker 2: looks like. Do your maths, and then from there go well,
- 30:14Speaker 2: what if we didn't change a thing, what is our
- 30:16Speaker 2: trajectory to purchasing a home? Is it like five years away?
- 30:21Speaker 2: What time actually gets cut when I move in? Okay,
- 30:25Speaker 2: you might go, Jess, it means that you could save
- 30:27Speaker 2: a whole house deposit in one year. Oh okay, that
- 30:31Speaker 2: takes four years off the timeline. Now we're going to
- 30:33Speaker 2: go back to our values. How much do you care
- 30:35Speaker 2: about buying a house? Because Beck, if I ask you,
- 30:38Speaker 2: you'd be like, I don't care. I want to be
- 30:40Speaker 2: really comfy. Jess house obsessed. Wants to buy a house
- 30:44Speaker 2: this year. We'll probably buy a house this year, and
- 30:46Speaker 2: that's really exciting, but she's not willing to compromise her goal.
- 30:49Speaker 2: So like, we need to then sit down with our
- 30:51Speaker 2: partner and go, well, what do we actually want to
- 30:53Speaker 2: do when it comes to saving for a house, because
- 30:56Speaker 2: do you know what's much easier moving in with your
- 30:59Speaker 2: family if you have a really clear end point. I
- 31:02Speaker 2: know that if we move in in March, by December,
- 31:05Speaker 2: we're actually going to be in position X, and by
- 31:07Speaker 2: March next year we'll be able to buy. Maybe that
- 31:10Speaker 2: will change you going you know what, I'm happy to
- 31:12Speaker 2: rent a chair for twelve months because I'm going to
- 31:14Speaker 2: be in the exact position that we have been manifesting,
- 31:17Speaker 2: like we want this so bad. On the flip side,
- 31:20Speaker 2: I'd be like, well, Jess, if you move in March
- 31:23Speaker 2: next March, you can buy a house. And you go,
- 31:26Speaker 2: oh my god, I can't believe that I would live
- 31:28Speaker 2: with my in laws for twelve months. I just can't.
- 31:30Speaker 2: We need to change that because to me, same as
- 31:32Speaker 2: you Beck, life's about the journey. It's not about the destination.
- 31:36Speaker 2: And if it takes you a little bit longer, where's
- 31:38Speaker 2: the shame in something taking longer? Like you're putting these
- 31:43Speaker 2: prerequisites onto yourself. Nobody else is saying, yes, you have
- 31:46Speaker 2: to buy this year. The only person saying that is Jess,
- 31:49Speaker 2: And I respect that because I know she's really clear
- 31:52Speaker 2: on her values and her goals and what she wants
- 31:54Speaker 2: to achieve. So I completely support it. But if she said, oh,
- 31:57Speaker 2: I'm just going to take it slow for a couple
- 31:58Speaker 2: of years, it's not that important. It's definitely a big
- 32:01Speaker 2: thing I want to achieve, but like you know, it
- 32:03Speaker 2: doesn't have to happen really quickly. I'd be like, all right, well,
- 32:06Speaker 2: these things make sense to different people, and the outcome
- 32:09Speaker 2: is going to be very different for Jess as it
- 32:11Speaker 2: is for Beck, and it will be for whoever's written in.
- 32:15Speaker 2: So I think you really need to actually sit down,
- 32:17Speaker 2: do the maths, do the numbers, and then stand back
- 32:19Speaker 2: and be like, well, that's the position it would be
- 32:22Speaker 2: putting me in. Am I willing to make the compromise
- 32:25Speaker 2: of being a little bit uncomfortable because sometimes you might go, yeah,
- 32:28Speaker 2: that's pretty sick, Like I'm so far ahead. I'm willing
- 32:31Speaker 2: to do that. You might actually build into that a
- 32:34Speaker 2: little bit of fun money so that you go to
- 32:35Speaker 2: your partner, look, I'll move in. I feel a bit
- 32:38Speaker 2: uncomfortable about it because I don't want to always be in
- 32:39Speaker 2: their space, but I am going to, you know, keep
- 32:42Speaker 2: my gym membership because I want to get out of
- 32:45Speaker 2: the house. A bit more. Also, can we have like
- 32:47Speaker 2: a monthly date night so that you know we're getting
- 32:50Speaker 2: out of the house, we're having a meal on our own.
- 32:51Speaker 2: I don't feel like we're always under their toes, Like
- 32:54Speaker 2: what's going to make you feel comfortable about that situation?
- 32:56Speaker 2: And if you brainstorm that together and then realize it's
- 32:59Speaker 2: just exist in that space, maybe reevaluate and we just
- 33:02Speaker 2: changed the timeframes. Goal setting is beautiful because you don't
- 33:06Speaker 2: have to have everything set in stone.
- 33:09Speaker 6: What did everybody else say?
- 33:10Speaker 2: So we asked you guys a few questions. First, we said,
- 33:13Speaker 2: have you ever moved back in with your parents? Fifty
- 33:16Speaker 2: five percent of you said yes, it's a lot of people.
- 33:18Speaker 2: That's a lot of people. Have you, guys, ever moved
- 33:20Speaker 2: back in with your parents? No? No, neither. All right,
- 33:23Speaker 2: Well that was good. Out said if you said if
- 33:27Speaker 2: you said yes, did it help you get ahead financially?
- 33:30Speaker 2: Seventy four percent of you said yes, saved so much
- 33:33Speaker 2: money and twenty six percent said not really, as I
- 33:35Speaker 2: was also paying them rent and bills.
- 33:38Speaker 6: I'm surprised that it's only seventy percent, Like I would
- 33:40Speaker 6: have thought that the majority of people would move home
- 33:43Speaker 6: to save money.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Same. We then asked you, guys, if yes, how did
- 33:46Speaker 2: living with your parents go? Fifty two percent of you
- 33:50Speaker 2: said it was fine. I actually enjoyed it. Forty eight
- 33:52Speaker 2: percent of you said terrible. Never again. We then said,
- 33:56Speaker 2: have you been in a similar situation? Tell us. A
- 33:59Speaker 2: lot of people said, I actually still live with my parents.
- 34:01Speaker 2: I'm in my thirties. The key is open communication and
- 34:04Speaker 2: being treated like an adult. I feel like that's a
- 34:08Speaker 2: really important part. I hear too many stories where people
- 34:11Speaker 2: move back in with their parents and their parents default
- 34:13Speaker 2: to treating them like the child that they were when
- 34:15Speaker 2: they were twelve. Next is, you may be saving money,
- 34:19Speaker 2: but you pay with your mental health.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Fair fair, point sure fair.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Someone said I'd either suck it up or suggest that
- 34:27Speaker 2: we move in with my parents. Obviously a good suggestion
- 34:31Speaker 2: if it's available to you, but maybe they're not in
- 34:34Speaker 2: the circumstance where they can take you on. Someone said
- 34:37Speaker 2: I would just want to know if the savings actually
- 34:39Speaker 2: outweighs the cost of a beauty space, which is exactly
- 34:41Speaker 2: what I said. Yes, someone said, you need to really
- 34:44Speaker 2: see it as an opportunity rather than a burden. What
- 34:47Speaker 2: a good time to get to know them? And establish
- 34:49Speaker 2: a great relationship. That's cute that you could be really bonding.
- 34:53Speaker 2: That reframe is really nice. I know you don't know
- 34:56Speaker 2: them well, but maybe it's an opportunity to get to
- 34:59Speaker 2: know them well.
- 34:59Speaker 4: Yeah, that's so true.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Someone said, set yourselves a time frame for how long
- 35:04Speaker 2: you're actually going to live there, and try to stick
- 35:06Speaker 2: to it, and then make sure that you're reassessing every
- 35:09Speaker 2: six months. Someone said, one thing is your parents, another
- 35:13Speaker 2: thing is your in laws. Yeah, your relationship.
- 35:18Speaker 6: I guess some people love their in laws and some people.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Can't stand them. Yeah, exactly so, and that's fine and
- 35:23Speaker 2: that's fair to take into consideration. Someone said, we did it.
- 35:27Speaker 2: We knew our timeline was really firm, we wanted to
- 35:29Speaker 2: spend three months with them, and clarified our financial expectations beforehand.
- 35:34Speaker 2: It worked perfectly. How good's that? Someone said, I'd use
- 35:39Speaker 2: the beautician workspace rental issue as leverage to not have
- 35:42Speaker 2: to do this. Someone said, my own parents versus in
- 35:46Speaker 2: laws can be totally different when it comes to dynamic.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Same for moving as a couple versus if you were
- 35:52Speaker 2: moving home as a singleton. Which is so true, right, Like,
- 35:56Speaker 2: I feel like it'd be so easy to move back
- 35:57Speaker 2: in with my parents. If it was just me managing
- 36:00Speaker 2: a relationship and my parents and trying to keep everybody happy,
- 36:04Speaker 2: I don't know if that would be the same. Yeah,
- 36:06Speaker 2: so lots of people have said lots of different things.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Some people have said, yes, it's the best thing ever,
- 36:11Speaker 2: But then I have a comment in front of me
- 36:12Speaker 2: that says, don't do it for the sake of your
- 36:14Speaker 2: relationship and your sanity. So I honestly think this is
- 36:18Speaker 2: so much more about what's going to work for you,
- 36:20Speaker 2: Like what does your journey look like? What are you
- 36:23Speaker 2: willing to compromise, Because a lot of us are willing
- 36:25Speaker 2: to compromise a little bit, A lot of us are
- 36:28Speaker 2: willing to compromise a lot. But it's not the same
- 36:30Speaker 2: for everybody, agreed. But I think that's all we've got,
- 36:34Speaker 2: my friends. I think we're wrapping for the week. I
- 36:36Speaker 2: feel like you and I Jess need to go talk
- 36:38Speaker 2: more about Taylor Swift, try to find out costumes, talk
- 36:41Speaker 2: about bracelets, like we've just got a heap to do. Beck,
- 36:44Speaker 2: I mean, you can go back to work, but Jess
- 36:46Speaker 2: and I are working from home.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Of course, I might respectfully bow out of that conversation.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Hey, sorry, sorry, you're too cool. Sorry we will tell
- 36:56Speaker 2: you all about it next week.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, I can't wait.
