- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Local Marketing Made Simple with your host, Liam Walsh. I hope you're well. I hope you're having a fantastic day, week, year, wherever you are in the world, wherever you are in the year. And today's episode, we're gonna be specifically speaking about confidence on camera because it's come up time and time again. So we do...
- 0:19If you don't know already, we do something called a marketing strategy session for anyone who wants to find out how we essentially work, how the business accelerator can help you. And ultimately, these calls are not just like a full blown sales pitch because it's not my jam. What we do, the important part is is find out where you are in business. Like, what are you struggling with? What do you need?
- 0:38What worry... You know? And also, like, what's the goals? What's the vision? How many bookings do you want a week?
- 0:43What what do you want your revenue to be? Honestly, I would I would actually say that 99% of business owners obviously want the business to grow. Yeah? But it's it's having clarity with everything, you know, knowing what to actually do, having a strategy behind it, going into every week, going, this is what I do. This is how I do it.
- 1:01This is what I say. This is what I speak about. Having clarity in just... In knowing what to do to grow a business is so powerful. Obviously, you want the revenue to follow, business to grow, you want the clients to come in always.
- 1:14Right? But you want that to happen through complete certainty, not just throwing shit at a wall and it works and you go, oh, I have no idea why that works. I'm gonna go and try it. And then it doesn't work. So on, so on, on, so on, on.
- 1:26So today, specifically, there is... I've not even written down any notes for this podcast. I'm just gonna riff it completely because it's something that we teach all the time in the Business Accelerator. You're gonna get some great value from this. I know speaking on camera, confidence on camera, putting yourself out there.
- 1:41I know. I know. I know. It feels like, you know, just the dread. But I'm hoping this podcast gives you a little bit of number one insight into why you need to do it.
- 1:48Okay? And that's not, you know, not in a forceful way, but it needs to happen if you want your business to be successful, especially in the world that we live in right now. AI is everywhere. How many adverts do you see that are number one, they look like AI. Okay?
- 2:01Number two, they don't look like AI, but then you're like, is it AI? Is this real? Is it a is it a fake person? Like, how much of that stuff is out there right now? I am getting absolutely hounded.
- 2:12So maybe it's just me, but I am getting absolutely hounded by AI AI ads. They're everywhere. You know? And what we have to realize and recognize is we're in a world right now where you need to be the face of your brand more than ever. Depends on who I'm speaking to here.
- 2:27But to be honest, like, just we just took on Jenny and Miles. They have two Airbnbs. Right? The the profile picture is still going to be their logo. Fine.
- 2:35But they're going to now start to utilize speaking on camera, confidence on camera to get more connected with their audience so more people choose the Airbnb. It doesn't matter if you're a personal trainer, a physio, an aesthetic practitioner, facialist, mortgage adviser. This is going to be key for your business to grow. Right? And why is that?
- 2:56Because people buy from people. And in the world where there's there's not a lot of trust or belief in these, like, because because of all the AI content, you will get connection far easier by yourself being on camera. And if you go and look on my social media, I'm not speaking on camera every single post, but if you go and land on my page, you will instantly feel a little bit connected to me because I am there. And if you go and listen to me speak for sixty seconds, you will feel connected to me versus it being a shit ton of just stock based images and text only sales promotions. If you go and land on a page like that in in in the world that we are right now, you feel instantly disconnected.
- 3:37Okay? So if I am... If if if you're trying to grow your business right now and everyone who lands on your page feels disconnected versus connected, what is that going to do for the business? Well, let me tell you something. It's going to do sweet f all.
- 3:49K? We just had Val join us. Right? Val would class herself as a tech dinosaur. Right?
- 3:54Never done any of this stuff, never spoke on camera, and she's literally only been with us less than a month. And she's speaking on camera. She's just recorded her ads. Right? And we're and we're helping her.
- 4:04We're supporting her, of course, like, guiding her through the process and all the rest of it, and it's great to have that kind of support network. But she she has never done anything like this. Right? But she realized and she recognized that if she doesn't, if she doesn't learn these things, business is going to stay in the exact same place. And, obviously, to grow a business, you need a few more things like understanding how to use ads, understanding how to have understanding what your sales process should be, like, all of that stuff.
- 4:28Knowing what to do on content is a massive one. I know so many business owners go into every week without a strategy, completely winging it. Don't know what to post. They're inconsistent. Sometimes they do it.
- 4:38Sometimes they don't. Chasing their tail of it. Re sharing stuff because they they don't have the clue what to share today. It's very sporadic and all over the gaffe. Right?
- 4:47But that's a different podcast for a different time. Today is specifically the the the the speaking on camera, the confidence on camera, the getting yourself out there. And, the importance is black and white. If you do not do it, your business will not be as busy as you want it. It's the black and white truth.
- 5:02K? This isn't me now coming from an angle of, like, hey. You need to sign up with Liam. No. I'm telling...
- 5:07No. You know, you know, when people do that, don't they? This is, like, almost like they give you a little bit, and it's like, oh, but to get the full thing, you have to come and join and do. What I'm trying to get from these podcasts is to educate you, and it doesn't matter if you join me or not. Right?
- 5:19I've had people listen to these podcasts and had success. Right? Right? And then they end up usually joining because they're like, I want more. But the whole purpose of this podcast is to educate you, to give you the value, the insights, and to to to understand.
- 5:30Right? And the reason I do that as well is because I know what it's like to be that business owner about a fucking clue what you should be doing. Going into every week with with no plan, no strategy, no idea, just hoping. That's it. Right?
- 5:41That's all it is, isn't it? You know you need to be there. You know you need to be on social media. You know you need to do things. You know you need to post, but it's it's understanding what do I freaking do.
- 5:50So anyway, tangent. Let's get back to it. So you obviously understand now the importance. Black and white, if you do not do this, you will you will... Your business will not be in the place that you want it to be.
- 5:59Cool. So how do we actually start doing it? Well, I want you to just like imagine... I don't know what your social... I obviously don't know what your social page looks like right now, but if we imagine two social pages side by side, and let's just go with a random business, like, I don't know, aesthetic practitioner.
- 6:17Right? Two pages side by side. Now number one is like sales promotional stuff, maybe some AI generated crappy images that look horrific and, you know, this like stock image vibes, you know, all that. Right? And then we imagine the page on the right.
- 6:31And the page on the right has, you know, clean images of the person. Right? It could be a selfie of them. It could literally be them with a client doing the actual thing. You connect more to that one straight away.
- 6:42So number one is understanding that you just being more present on social media is step one. K? So if you're currently not on your social media, and I mean that if I... If you go and click on Instagram right now, I'll literally do it with you. If you go and click on Instagram right now, you...
- 6:56I can't remember. It's usually nine... Is it nine or six now? It depends on what they've done. Right.
- 7:00Okay. Social media, the first nine posts, if you scroll down a little bit, right, there's nine posts, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. If you're not if you're not there at least two or three, k, there's gonna be instant disconnection. K? And and for now, that literally could be it could be an image of you as a selfie.
- 7:19Right? I could do an image... I'm actually doing it, to be fair. I could literally take an image of me now. I'm gonna let you take it.
- 7:25There you go. And I could go and put that on social media right now and just go, just recorded a banging podcast, how to break free of not feeling confidence on camera or whatever I'm gonna call the title, I can't remember. And it's in the link in my bio. Go and have a listen right now. Instant connection.
- 7:40Right? I could take a... I could have this a picture of the the podcast mic and say the same. Which one do you feel more connected to? Liam with the selfie.
- 7:49Right? So just understanding. And again, if you are a business where you work with people in person, you could ask them or, you know, ask a handful of people, do you mind if this week if I just take a a picture of us, your face doesn't need to be on it. I could do it from the behind, so it's the back of your head if you if you prefer. Can do it with the front.
- 8:05Like, just ask. You don't get if you don't ask. Okay? So... And then that could be one of you one of you.
- 8:10And now what you're starting to see is you're starting to get yourself out there more, and you're starting to build up a level of it's okay to be on social media. No one is seeing anything negative. It's fine. It's good. And then you start to get this, like, little bit of momentum.
- 8:24Right? And when you get that momentum, it's really hard to stop when you've got momentum. If my business has got so much fucking momentum right now, excuse the French, I try not to swear all the time, it just comes out. It's... It would be very, very difficult for me to stop because I've just...
- 8:40The repetitions happened. I'm on the... I'm on stories. People will probably look at me and think he's an absolute maniac with content, but I've been doing it for years. Right?
- 8:47These podcasts are initially hard. Right? Because it's a longer commitment. Twenty minutes. Gotta edit it.
- 8:52So... But now it's just like, boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.
- 8:55Going live on stories. You may have seen if you're listening to this today, every Tuesday without fail, q and a, let people ask me questions. It gives me great content ideas. Sometimes I'll speak about it. Sometimes I'll answer it or might do a post on it, but it's like boom, boom, boom.
- 9:08Every Monday is usually a review. Boom, boom. Every every... You know what I mean? But then you start to get this repetition.
- 9:13So that's stage one and then understand, okay. This is great. Now you don't stop there just because you have a little bit of momentum, you feel confident, and it might... And your page looks better. Because what we're trying to do is get the best out of your business.
- 9:24Right? Getting your... Getting the best out of your business. I want everyone to have the best. And why would you not?
- 9:29You know? You wanna get fully booked. You wanna stay in demand. You wanna be the go to in your area. Who cares what it is?
- 9:34Like, put it this way, Gemma Gemma is been with us three months. Right? So June, she came into the... She came in with... I don't know if in the...
- 9:43When did she... Did she even... Anyway, she's come in. She's fully booked. She's taken $3 for June.
- 9:48Fourteen days worked. A thousand more than her target. And she actually described it where it's a bit... What did she say? I'm overwhelmed with how far I've come in just three months.
- 9:57I'm booking people in weeks in advance, which is such a lovely feeling knowing that people are willing to wait for my service. This would not have happened if she was not on camera. K? There's other things needed, right, to get that to get that to that point where businesses. But if we did all of those things, if we ran ads, if she had the content strategy and none of it was Gemma focused, Gemma would not have grown her business this far.
- 10:17Gemma would not grow a business far at all. All the keys, all the pieces, sorry, of the puzzle fit together. Anyway, so the next step. Right? So imagine step one is just getting yourself on camera.
- 10:27Step one is getting yourself on the more of you selfies with clients. Who cares? Right? I'm not gonna... We're not gonna dive into the actual specifics of, like, go and do this right today because, like, these episodes will be twenty minutes, but I'm giving you the the the framework.
- 10:39Step two is what we call b roll. K? So b roll, for anyone who doesn't know, is, imagine I could, again... You know you know what? I might actually just do this as well.
- 10:49God, all the all the ideas are coming on. This is what you have get in the habit of as well, by the way, guys, is you have to get on habit of creating content when the ideas come to you. So where was I going with this? B roll is essentially... Imagine it's like a clip of you doing something that's relatable to the business.
- 11:04So right now, I am recording myself speaking on this podcast, and I can take that same clip, remove the sound of it. Okay? And I could go and put it as a piece of content on my socials. And again, I could be like, recorded a banging podcast, how to get yourself out there, more on content, confidence on camera, blah blah blah, and the link is in my bio. Right?
- 11:23I could put the little title on Instagram over the top of this video. Yeah. Turn me off speaking, put music over it. And now we've just advanced from level one. So instead of it just being a picture of you, and you being more present on social media in general, we've now advanced.
- 11:36It's now a video of you. Okay. So now people are seeing you move. They're seeing you do the service. Because again, it's...
- 11:41Like, if I go back to the random business of being an aesthetic practitioner, you could literally, again, ask the clients if they don't mind. Doesn't have to be a full angle of them feeling uncomfortable. You set up a camera in the corner of your room. You press play. Don't even worry about how long the camera's on for because you can literally cut it down to twenty seconds.
- 11:58Right? Remove the sound from it so no one hears anyone speaking. Put music on it. Put a little thumbnail on Instagram saying, had had Jenna in today. This is what we focused on.
- 12:07And then you write a little write up about what you did with the client. And now, again, we've advanced from just an image of you, just an image of your own client to a video of you. And the whole purpose of this is one, add a variety in your content, of course. Number two is the fact that it's now more of you on your content. Number three is you are...
- 12:24The whole point of this is building you up to that point of then speaking on camera. Level one is images of you. Level two is b roll where you're not speaking on camera, but you're just getting used to being on camera is the most important part. Repetition, momentum, repetition, momentum. Pause that now.
- 12:40That was one minute forty nine. May use that on content. You may see me and you'll be like, that's so funny. I remember Liam doing that on the podcast. But even now, just stepping forward there and images of you, videos of you, okay, which is fantastic.
- 12:53The next level is you speaking on camera. The moment people hear you speak, they will feel far more connected than anything, right, that you will have done up until now. K? The images of you, you feel connection. That's the point.
- 13:08The point of images of you is so that people land on that page and don't feel disconnected. Right? It's still gonna take a while for people to buy into you off just images. The b roll clips, great. They're seeing you move.
- 13:19They may be seeing you speak, obviously, but you... They can't hear you yet. People wanna hear you. What do they sound like? You know?
- 13:25And and, again, there's many levels of content what you could speak about. You could speak about a client that came in. You could speak about a certain service that you have in the business. Right? You wanna speak about first things first is you want to speak about things that you are most confident about speaking about.
- 13:40And for most of you, it's going to be your service. Right? Because that's the one thing that you're most confident about. I don't even know why I've just put these sunglasses on. Take those off.
- 13:49I might do the next video wearing sunglasses. Anyway, tangent. So, again, let's go to the aesthetic practitioner. Imagine your business right now. I'm gonna use the aesthetic practitioner as an example.
- 13:58No. I'm not. I'm gonna use me when I... You know what? I'm gonna use me now.
- 14:02Why do I always go back in the past? Anyway, so let's say I've never spoken on camera before, but right now I've got images of me. I've maybe taken the clip of me doing this podcast. I'm now starting to get some momentum. And I'm like, right.
- 14:13What do I speak about? What I'm gonna speak about? And the easiest way to do this is write down 10 things on a piece of paper. I'm making this podcast up as I go along, by the way. It's just...
- 14:21It's so natural to say this. 10 things... Go and write down 10 things that you are most confident about in your business. K? Could be...
- 14:29Don't... And if you can't think of 10, doesn't matter. If you think of three, great. But even the services that you offer, what are you confident about speaking? The services that you offer is gonna be one of the easiest things to speak about because you deliver that service anyway.
- 14:40Understanding different levels of content like handling objections, storytelling, lifestyle content, that's a different breed because you need to be coached on that personally. Hint, hint, wing, wing. No. I'm joking, but I'm not. Service awareness is key.
- 14:50And imagine going right down 10 things. So if I go for me now, I'd be like, oh, we we have a private WhatsApp group with just the client and it's me, my head of client success success Sharif, Paul, other online success coach, and Lisa, who's head of accountability. Inside that group is basically where we guide you on the course. We hold you accountable. We nudge you when we need when when you you need to be nudged.
- 15:11And most important of all, we just give you clarity every single day on you growing your business. That's what the WhatsApp pod looks like. Boom. Forty five seconds. Done.
- 15:19The thing to remember with this, guys, is that no one gives a shit about what you look like, what you sound like, if you stutter, if you say the wrong word. No one, no one, no one gives a shit. And you... That's what you need to go into these videos about. The whole thing, right, is that the moment someone sees you speaking on camera in in the first place, instantly connected, no one's critiquing you because number one, they fucking don't know what critiquing content would look like.
- 15:49No one's gonna go, that that person stuttered. Like, literally literally no one is ever going to say that. I stutter all the time. I don't care at me. It is what it is.
- 15:58The thing you have to remember is when you're doing this, you are literally in the 1% club. Right? You're in the 1% of number one people in business because how many people don't do this? Right? You'll be thinking this right now, well, I don't, so I'm definitely not in this club, and not many people are.
- 16:11K? Number two is you've got people out there who are not even self employed. Never mind fucking doing com... Speaking on camera. Swore so many times in this podcast.
- 16:20Apologies if you played this in the car with the kids. I don't actually know if this if this... I have a software that edits podcasts. I'm not actually sure if that beeps out the f's. You'll probably tell me now, no.
- 16:30It doesn't. You've sworn, like, 19 times, and my children are crying. Anyway, so that's that. Speak about... Easiest thing to do, by the way, don't don't script it unless you're just writing, like, a few things that you wanna speak about.
- 16:42So put it this way. Right? There's there's a... There's an app, k, called Videoleap. K?
- 16:48Literally video, leap as in leap forward. It's a paid app, and there's probably other apps like this. I've just had this... Honestly, I've had this app for nine years, so there's probably way more now. There is a feature on it called no pauses, and it's the same feature that's on this podcast.
- 17:00Right? If I pause now for ten seconds and then start to speak again, you probably noticed that it sounded very, like, jumpy. It went from ding to ding. Right? Because it removes the pauses out.
- 17:10I could literally stop now, go and make a sandwich, come back, carry on the podcast, and it would remove it. Now the same... Imagine the same rule applies with video leads. Almost don't just try and... What people do when they speak on camera is they try and get out really fast, and they stutter everywhere, and then they have to rerecord.
- 17:25Right? Don't. Write write down a few things that you wanna speak about. Again, I could be like WhatsApp group, Shareef, Paul, Lisa, clarity, direction, accountability, and then riff in between. Right?
- 17:37And so if we do if we do that principle, you record the video and take your time. So for example, I would go, in the Business Accelerator, we have a private WhatsApp group, and I'd pause. I'd just read my notes and then read out another line. K? And if you read out a line, line, line, line, video leap or any app, click the no pause or click the remove gaps or whatever, and it will do all...
- 18:01Number one, it'll do all the editing for you. So you've just literally saved hours of tedious time. Number two is you rifted off your reel, your your your speaking without having to remember and then... And a full script, without having to just go for it and hope for the best. And if I get sixty seconds through, great, kinda like I'm doing with this podcast.
- 18:19But, I could edit out shit, but I I I don't... I've script these sometimes, but for the most part, I just go on on off a little tangent, and that's the best way with content. I do that with my own content. I go and look at any of my reels. They're never scripted ever, ever, ever, ever.
- 18:31For number one reason is I'll forget my lines. Number number two is content is just comes across better when it's not. If you use chat GBT to hard hard script to reel, people will sometimes notice if you don't say it in right way. Anyway, let's go back. If you want to break that fear of being on camera, number one is you will start to do images first just to get yourself out there and build some momentum.
- 18:53Number two is you'll start to use the b roll clips, which is the video of you with the sound off, with trending music on, for example, that's relatable to the business. K? So if you was a mortgage adviser, it might be you behind the laptop. If you was a gardener, it'd be you doing the garden. If you was an aesthetic practitioner, it'd be you either tidying the room or with a client.
- 19:13If it was a personal trainer, it'd be you training or it'd be you with the client. Yeah. Let's keep going. If you were a dog groomer, it'd be you with the dog. You know what I mean?
- 19:23Like, it's it's it's obvious. Yeah? And the final piece of the puzzle here is once you've gone from getting yourself out there more with images, then to b roll, and then speaking on camera finally, but choose the things that you are most confident about in your business to speak about first, because then you'll be able to riff it like I am doing right now. Number two is, again, the whole point of this is to break the fear. Once you've done that and you've realized no one's slated you, no one said any nasty things, in fact, people have probably applauded you for speaking on camera because number one, they wish they could do it.
- 19:55And number two, they appreciate you just being there on your social media. People will appre... You actually taking the time to record a video. What's my hand doing here? And actually just being there and being vocal about it.
- 20:06And if you do all of those things, number one, your presence on social media will be dramatic... Drastically, drastically different in a good way. There will be no... Nothing negative at all, and you'll start to actually become this business owner that's building the business that can thrive. You do that and then you attach ads with it and have a good sales process and naturally know what you should speak about in the other times with your content.
- 20:28That's how you build a system. That's how you go into every week with complete confidence. And that is how you grow your bloody business. Anyway, twenty two minutes. I'm gonna love you, leave you.
- 20:35Hopefully, you enjoyed. As always, if you ever need anything, want anything from me, come over to Instagram, message me the word info, and peace out.
