- 1:35SPEAKER_01: She uh she went back to the future because she she sent us a photo.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Oh morning.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Apparently, Doc Brown's alive again.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Doc's alive.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Doc's alive.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's in 1855, but he's alive.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Is that great or what?
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Spoiler alert, by the way, if you haven't seen Back to the Future.
- 1:54SPEAKER_07: Well, uh, spoiler alert if you haven't seen Jack's post.
- 1:57SPEAKER_07: She got her picture with, and why is his real name escaping me?
- 2:01SPEAKER_07: Because I know this character.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: This act Emmett Emmett Brown.
- 2:04SPEAKER_07: Well, that's the that's the character.
- 2:06SPEAKER_07: Oh, Christopher Lloyd.
- 2:07SPEAKER_07: Christopher Lloyd, yeah.
- 2:08SPEAKER_07: Jimmy Jim Igatowski.
- 2:10SPEAKER_07: Jim, all one of my all-time favorite characters from the series Taxi.
- 2:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, Jim Ignitowski.
- 2:17SPEAKER_07: We were talking, just chatting amongst ourselves about funniest moments in episodes.
- 2:21SPEAKER_07: One of the funniest, in my in my opinion.
- 2:24SPEAKER_07: You know, I can think about funny moments in TV history, like with God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.
- 2:30SPEAKER_07: Anybody?
- 2:31SPEAKER_07: Anyone?
- 2:31SPEAKER_07: I know that one.
- 2:33SPEAKER_06: Go ahead.
- 2:34SPEAKER_07: W WKRP in Cincinnati.
- 2:35SPEAKER_07: The Thanksgiving episode.
- 2:37SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 2:37SPEAKER_07: A classic.
- 2:39SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 2:40SPEAKER_07: And then there's uh Jim Ignitowski who's on a date with Elaine, and he sits down at the piano and starts playing it, then looks up and goes, I must have taken lessons.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: No.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Or the best one is what does a yellow light mean?
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 2:57SPEAKER_07: Same uh same taxi, same sitcom.
- 3:01SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 3:01SPEAKER_07: Slow down.
- 3:03SPEAKER_07: What does yeah?
- 3:06SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 3:06SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 3:07SPEAKER_07: Hey, friends.
- 3:08SPEAKER_07: It well, this might be a hint to you as to what's going on with tonight's episode.

- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Lots of news dropped in terms of the upcoming holiday season at Walt Disney World.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: And folks, get excited.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: This upcoming holiday season, we're not getting just one, we're not getting just two, we're getting three holiday overlays at Walt Disney World.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: They're uh they're bringing back the uh the Christmas overlay to Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind with one of the songs, and I think this fits perfectly.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Is if you're a fan of uh the Trans Siberian Orchestra, uh Christmas Eve Sarajevo, that really like rock-heavy version of Carol the Bells, apparently that's one of the songs that they're using.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: So I think that's a great fit.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Now they've done this in the past, uh, but the uh Alien Swirling Saucers over in Hollywood Studios is getting a holiday overlay in terms of Christmas music as you're you're swirling around there.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Uh so I know that's definitely something Bob's gonna hit up uh this holiday season.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: And but now the one that I think came a little bit out of left field, but I I'm here for it, is we're getting a holiday overlay of rock and roller coaster starring the Muppets, and they're gonna have uh different songs featuring Silver Bells, uh that's the Electric Mayhem featuring Cindy Lopper, uh Christmas, uh Baby Please Come Home, that's the uh mayhem with Jennifer Hudson.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: The mayhem themselves are doing Little Saint Nick, and then I think this one's great Holiday Road, uh, with the Electric Mayhem featuring Kermit and Fozzie Bear.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: So if you're looking to experience these epic holiday overlays at Walt Disney World this holiday season, you need to head to Magicboundtravel.com, fill out a no obligation quote, and one of their fabulous agents is gonna get in contact with you to help you get you on your holiday road.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: So again, magicboundtravel.com is their website.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Check it out.
- 6:32SPEAKER_07: All right, excellent.
- 6:35SPEAKER_07: Hey, a quick uh apology and alibi.
- 6:38SPEAKER_07: I mentioned it at the beginning of the race report, they're getting long, and sometimes I miss stuff.
- 6:43SPEAKER_07: And last week I remember I saw that Danny had run a race in the Netherlands, and I really thought I had seen his report, but I didn't have it, and sure enough, I did miss out where Danny did the Heu Wathorst run in Amersfoort, the Netherlands.
- 7:06SPEAKER_07: I'm sticking with it, I still think that's pretty close to right.
- 7:08SPEAKER_07: I know I got Danny right at least.
- 7:11SPEAKER_07: He says they had about 2,000 people there.
- 7:14SPEAKER_07: Uh there were several different distances.
- 7:16SPEAKER_07: He did the 10-miler.
- 7:17SPEAKER_07: Good event, well organized.
- 7:19SPEAKER_07: Tempts were a little warm for the Netherlands this time of year, mid-70s.
- 7:23SPEAKER_07: So he finished slightly slower than his target pace for a 10-miler.
- 7:28SPEAKER_07: He, you know, he slugged it out and came in at an hour 17 minutes.
- 7:35SPEAKER_07: Good job, Danny.
- 7:36SPEAKER_07: Good job.
- 7:37SPEAKER_07: Uh wooden metal, not a big fan of wooden metals, but it's a nice reminder of the course.
- 7:42SPEAKER_07: And Danny, thanks for uh getting in touch with me.
- 7:45SPEAKER_07: I thought I I try my best, friends, but sometimes sometimes I blame the uh algorithm.
- 7:52SPEAKER_07: Sometimes I just miss them.
- 7:55SPEAKER_07: All right, let's take a look at the training schedule.
- 7:57SPEAKER_07: Wine and dine race weekend two weeks away.
- 8:00SPEAKER_07: We know that.
- 8:01SPEAKER_07: Two weeks from today, the expo will open.
- 8:05SPEAKER_07: It will probably be a zoo.
- 8:09SPEAKER_07: John will have number four to get into the Disney merch area by then.
- 8:17SPEAKER_07: I won't even bother trying to get a virtual queue because it's no use.
- 8:23SPEAKER_07: Uh but we are in training week 16, and this is what we like to call the rehearsal for the race, where you have now, if you're doing the challenge now, you have a five-mile walk and then a 14-mile run walk the next day.
- 8:45SPEAKER_07: And we will talk a little bit about why we do 14 miles in just a few moments.
- 8:53SPEAKER_07: Marathon weekend is 90 days away.
- 8:56SPEAKER_07: That's 90 days till expo.
- 9:01SPEAKER_07: And we're just about I think it's 90 days to the 5k actually, and 13 weeks to the expo.
- 9:09SPEAKER_07: Uh, I may have those numbers back, but you get the idea though.
- 9:12SPEAKER_07: Marathon weekend always messes me up because it's the only one that the expo starts on a Wednesday.
- 9:21SPEAKER_07: So you got the races Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 9:25SPEAKER_07: Uh doesn't matter what time things start.
- 9:28SPEAKER_07: In this training week is training week 15.
- 9:32SPEAKER_07: Three miles is the long run this week.
- 9:35SPEAKER_07: Enjoy it if you're doing marathon or challenge training.
- 9:40SPEAKER_07: It's the last time you're going to see a three mile on your training calendar.
- 9:45SPEAKER_07: Well, until race day when you do the 5k.
- 9:49SPEAKER_07: So there we are.
- 9:50SPEAKER_07: That's what's going on training wise.
- 9:52SPEAKER_07: Uh we start training for princess the week that Marath that uh wine and dine ends.
- 10:00SPEAKER_07: So wine and dine ends, boom, boom.
- 10:02SPEAKER_07: Next week we start training for princess.
- 10:05SPEAKER_07: That's convenient.
- 10:07SPEAKER_07: Uh speaking of training, my friends, what kind of training updates do we have?
- 10:11SPEAKER_07: I know we all got something going on.
- 10:13SPEAKER_08: So last week I talked about how my training has been going well.
- 10:17SPEAKER_08: Um, I got 15 miles in last week after the podcast.
- 10:24SPEAKER_08: Um that went really well.
- 10:27SPEAKER_08: Um, I kept a consistent pace pretty much the whole run.
- 10:31SPEAKER_08: Um I did slow down a couple of miles just to enjoy nature, um, but otherwise it went well.
- 10:37SPEAKER_08: And then this week I really wanted to get up early on Monday um and do a long run, but I was honestly really tired from work.
- 10:47SPEAKER_08: Um, and so I opted to have some extra sleep, and I am choosing to break up my long run and do a couple of back-to-back days.
- 10:56SPEAKER_08: Um it's something that I know will work for me, but it won't work for everybody.
- 11:00SPEAKER_08: I just have to figure out what's gonna be best for me.
- 11:03SPEAKER_08: Um, and I need the extra sleep.
- 11:05SPEAKER_08: So that is what I opted for.
- 11:08SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 11:09SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 11:10SPEAKER_07: Fair enough.
- 11:12SPEAKER_07: I went out and did what Coach Twiggs calls, well, I don't think he made this name up.
- 11:19SPEAKER_07: It's the one-hour prediction run.
- 11:23SPEAKER_07: And the idea is to see if you've internalized your paces.
- 11:28SPEAKER_07: You're not supposed to look at your watch.
- 11:29SPEAKER_07: And I and I don't.
- 11:31SPEAKER_07: So you go and you run for 30 minutes and you turn around and come back and run for 30 minutes.
- 11:36SPEAKER_07: And if you've got your paces dead on, you should be just about where you started.
- 11:41SPEAKER_07: I had success in that regard.
- 11:45SPEAKER_07: I am paying much more attention to the paces I'm supposed to run.
- 11:50SPEAKER_07: And for this particular one, I was supposed to run.
- 11:53SPEAKER_07: I think, remember, it's it's a slow training run.
- 11:55SPEAKER_07: I think I was supposed to run 1250 a mile.
- 11:59SPEAKER_07: And when I got done, I think I was at like 1248, but I don't think any individual mile was anything close to that.
- 12:06SPEAKER_07: I think I was 1315 for some and uh 12.02 for some, and anyway, when I got them all done, I ended up at 1248.
- 12:17SPEAKER_07: The one thing that really, and friends, I hope I hope we get a break.
- 12:22SPEAKER_07: We should get a break.
- 12:23SPEAKER_07: The humidity has returned in spades.
- 12:26SPEAKER_07: We had a beautiful couple of days, uh, a couple weeks ago, but the humidity's back in when I took off on Saturday morning, the dew point was up at 79.
- 12:39SPEAKER_07: And that'll suck it out of you.
- 12:41SPEAKER_07: I did not take into account the heat.
- 12:44SPEAKER_07: You know how we'll talk about during your training Jeff's rule of uh 30 seconds every five degrees above 60.
- 12:51SPEAKER_07: I think that's what it was.
- 12:53SPEAKER_07: Uh that would have put me at I don't know, it would have put me at a pretty slow pace, probably close to 16 minutes.
- 13:01SPEAKER_07: But I managed to 1250.
- 13:03SPEAKER_07: It was it was a little bit of a challenge.
- 13:05SPEAKER_07: I hope that's not the case when you come down here, friends.
- 13:08SPEAKER_07: I hope we get better weather than that.
- 13:10SPEAKER_07: We can expect it to be warm, not that warm, so I think we'll be okay.
- 13:15SPEAKER_07: So that was my training.
- 13:16SPEAKER_07: I've got a 20 miler this weekend, and again, I plan on paying attention to the rules that we've got a speed limit, not a goal speed on these long runs.
- 13:30SPEAKER_07: And I think mine's pretty daggum slow.
- 13:32SPEAKER_07: It's it's probably around 1450 or something like that for the marathon.
- 13:37SPEAKER_07: So I'm gonna adjust my run-walk intervals as necessary to try to stay close to that time, and I'm gonna do a better job of fueling before, and I'm gonna do a better job of fueling on the course.
- 13:51SPEAKER_07: In fact, I've already talked to Becky about meeting me at a halfway point somewhere because I don't think I'll be able to carry enough uh liquid or fuel without carrying a backpack, and I don't want to do that.
- 14:05SPEAKER_07: So yeah, so I'll I'll go late enough that she doesn't have to leave before 10 in the morning, and I think I'll be okay.
- 14:10SPEAKER_07: So I think she'll be able to get up by then.
- 14:12SPEAKER_07: She's she's not here, she she's not far away.
- 14:15SPEAKER_07: I have to be quiet.
- 14:17SPEAKER_07: I mean oh, that's the other thing, friends.
- 14:19SPEAKER_07: You can't see.
- 14:20SPEAKER_07: I am almost always outdoors.
- 14:22SPEAKER_07: We're getting a lot of rain.
- 14:24SPEAKER_07: So this is an indoor podcast for me this evening.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: I I'm a little disappointed you didn't invite the crickets into your home since it's negative.
- 14:32SPEAKER_07: No crickets in the house.
- 14:34SPEAKER_07: Although uh we're we're dog sitting, our next door neighbor has two chihuahuas, and one of them just a pistol, and every now and then he'll bring in a gecko.
- 14:45SPEAKER_07: Oh one time, okay.
- 14:49SPEAKER_07: Uh I need a trigger warning here.
- 14:51SPEAKER_07: One time he brought in a dead rat.
- 14:54SPEAKER_07: That was lovely.
- 14:55SPEAKER_07: Look what I have for you.
- 14:57SPEAKER_07: We're pretty sure he yeah, he didn't kill it.
- 15:01SPEAKER_07: Somebody had put out poison, I'm sure, and he brought it in.
- 15:03SPEAKER_07: Well, thank you very much.
- 15:05SPEAKER_07: We took care of that.
- 15:06SPEAKER_07: But he doesn't bring any crickets, Greg.
- 15:08SPEAKER_07: Nope.
- 15:09SPEAKER_07: Don't bring any crickets.
- 15:11SPEAKER_07: John, how's training going?
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Uh training went well.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: Uh I did my uh long run on Sunday.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: Uh went out and the weather was the temperature was perfect.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: I was dodging intermittent showers while I was out there, but it wasn't anything like heavy, so I didn't really bother me.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: But it it going back and looking at my uh paces, I was pretty much dead on, like within two or three seconds each mile.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: Except for the one mile that I had to stop and wait for the traffic light, which you know you don't want to play Trogger in the middle of the road.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's not a good idea.
- 15:50SPEAKER_07: Doesn't your watch stop when you stop for those?
- 15:53SPEAKER_07: Mine's on auto-stop when I do.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: I I don't think I have that on.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: I I I it it still runs.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: I I I think sometimes when you look at your Strava, it'll say uh moving time versus actual time.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: And uh pretty 16 seconds, which was basically makes a difference in that one pace.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Uh but yeah, so it went really well, and I had a felt really good afterwards.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: They said the weather was fine, uh, you know, 61 degrees.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: You can't ask for any better weather.
- 16:22SPEAKER_07: That's nice, yeah.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: And a 49 dew point.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Oh golly.
- 16:27SPEAKER_07: Do they have those?
- 16:28SPEAKER_07: I didn't know.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: That's pretty cool.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: They get that low, Bob.
- 16:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's pretty cool.
- 16:34SPEAKER_07: How about you, Greg?
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Well, actually, I I'm gonna hop in the Mandalorian here for for a training update, and I'm gonna go back uh two weeks actually, because obviously I was not on the podcast last week because I was uh uh traveling abroad for work.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: And where were you, Greg?
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: I I was in Vienna, Austin.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's terrible.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Got got to run along the Danube, it was very nice.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Thankfully, I didn't make too many wrong turns.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: I didn't end up in Slovakia or anything like that.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: So I I will I'll I'll call that a win.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but um no, so I went over two weeks ago, uh, the weekend that um you know we had the nor'easter uh hit up here in in the northeast, and obviously, definitely thinking about all of our friends along the uh the Jersey coast there that just got absolutely hammered um by that storm.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: But I was due for 26 miles that weekend, and the the reason for having to do 26 in preparation for New York, uh this early on is just you know, I had this business trip last weekend, and then day of release, I'll be on uh another business trip.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: And so I'm just you know running out of time to be able to get that last long training run in.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, as I had said on the podcast, you know, maybe a month, month and a half ago, you know, it lined up perfectly that I was going to do that Wawa 50k.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Uh and you know, even though it'd be 31 miles, you know, breaking up, going to the different Wawas, eating the food, it was gonna be grand and glorious, and it would be a perfect way to get the miles in.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: And about a little less than 24 hours before the race was supposed to start, they uh the the um organizers of the event sent out an email and saying that they had to postpone due to the weather because you know, even though we were supposed to get a bunch of rain here, clearly not nearly the extent of what the Jersey Shore got, uh there were concerned about flooding, um, especially in one particular part of the course and you know, and winds and everything.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And it was just a bit of miserable experience.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: So I had to make the decision of how am I gonna get 26 miles done when it was supposed to rain all weekend?
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: And I was not interested at all in going out, doing this in the rain, and then potentially having blisters upon blisters because I remember the last time I did a marathon in the rain, that was um that was a hoe with beach marathon that I did a couple of years ago.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: And I just developed the worst blisters in the world.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: I you know, it was so bad, like I had to pop them right away in order to be able to relieve them, and my feet suffered for a while.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: So I I went ahead and made a decision to probably do the toughest thing I've probably done mentally in my running career, and that was I did a marathon on a treadmill.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Ooh, yeah, ooh, why 26?
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and but you know, thankfully, you know, having the sage advice of Coach Twiggs running through my head the entire time, I made the decision very, very early on that I was not going to do 26 miles straight because he's like, you know, that sensation of being on that apparatus for that long just it's just not a smart idea.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: So I decided that I was gonna break this up into two half marathons.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: So I did the first one and then I actually went home and so I wouldn't like get crazy looks in the gym.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: I actually decided to take a shower.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Uh so I you know that way I didn't look homeless and smell real bad and and and all and all that jazz.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Uh I you know, I pulled, you know, uh an Allie because you know what was Allie's favorite thing that she used to love to talk about the podcast was changing her socks.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: So I changed my socks, you know, thinking about her.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, got new shoes filled up on fuel, then went back to the gym and did uh another 13.1.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: And um I I think a lot of things saved me.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: The first is just various different um you know versions of media, whether that was watching the video, listening to a podcast, listening to music, hearing the holler hypes, all of that helped me.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: And I think I have officially learned when I'm in the pain cave, there is there is a series of of audio that gets me through the pain cave.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: And even I know what's going to happen, it still helps me every single time, and that is I go back and I listen to the episodes of Podcast Family Feud with our friends over at Will Run 4 because nothing brings me more joy than especially I think was the second time we did it, and it was the question about uh the top seven answers of Italian restaurants in Disney, and the the number of times that Aaron, God bless her, just yells at Michael for one picking to to take that topic and then.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: And everyone's like, I don't have any ideas.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: He goes, Well, I have one.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: It's via Napoli.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: And that was the only idea that everybody else had.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: You know, so that just that moment alone right there just brings me so much joy.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: But yeah, so I listened to a couple of episodes of Family Feud to help.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: But I I will say, um, I really probably didn't hit a wall until like 24 miles in, which I was really happy with because I always know my kryptonite is once I hit over 20, that's when I really start to get into my head.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: But so I I call that a massive win.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I mean, I'm sure, yes, if I would have gone out in the rain, that would have been, you know, just as good of a mental exercise.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Because obviously, when it comes to these race weekends, not just Run Disney, but any race weekend, you can't control the weather.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: And as long as there's not lightning in the area, you know, you still have to run in it.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: But it's again, it was just more for from the sense of I just didn't want to ruin my feet going into New York and my business trips and everything like that.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: So is 26 miles on a treadmill something that I would recommend for somebody?
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Absolutely not, but there is a lot that you can learn from it and really help build up the mental side of marathon training, which sometimes, and I especially I think as we get closer and closer to these race weekends, can be just as beneficial as the physical part of running.
- 23:26SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 23:27SPEAKER_07: I remember when we talked with uh Dean Carnassus, I think he did 24 hours on a treadmill.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: God, I couldn't imagine.
- 23:37SPEAKER_07: He was trying to break a record and he just missed, I believe.
- 23:42SPEAKER_07: But yeah, we talked about it.
- 23:45SPEAKER_07: I I I don't remember the longest I've done.
- 23:49SPEAKER_07: I think it's like 20.
- 23:51SPEAKER_08: I've done a couple of 20s and one 23.
- 23:54SPEAKER_08: And you're right, Greg.
- 23:56SPEAKER_08: It there's something.
- 23:57SPEAKER_08: I mean, anytime you're doing that many miles, there's this mental piece that you have to get through.
- 24:03SPEAKER_08: That's a huge part of marathon training.
- 24:05SPEAKER_08: But there's something to be said about the treadmill, too, of getting through it and and what can you do to preoccupy your brain?
- 24:13SPEAKER_08: Because you're you're there's nothing really to look at.
- 24:15SPEAKER_08: It's the same things over and over and over again.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I mean, and I think about it too that you know, we have friends out there that you know, that's all they can do.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, the whole time I was on there, I was thinking about our friend Kayla, you know, the fact that for you know for her safety because of her visual impairment, she has to do this.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: And you know, so you know, it just being going through that experience and you know being able to resonate with her of what she has to do year after year after year, you know, really does, you know, I give her kudos and I give all of our friends kudos who you know have to you know use this device in order to get their training in.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: And that I mean, sure, it can be monotonous at times, but I I think it really can help the mental side of things.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: That's for sure.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: But I was also smart about it too.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Like I said, I was taking notes that you know Coach Twiggs had given me about, you know, he recommends at least every hour stepping off of it.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, you know, going to refill your water bottle, um, you know, going to the bathroom, you know, just getting a different sensation.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, there was that one point where like I felt like I was cramping up so bad that like I knew I wanted to keep moving, but I needed to get off of it.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: So like I had paused the treadmill, and I think the the treadmills at my gym, you can pause them for up to five minutes or something like that.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: So I got off and then I like literally walked two laps like around the gym floor area.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: So at least I was still getting the mileage, but at least getting a different sensation onto my body before you know hopping back on there.
- 25:50SPEAKER_07: That's that's the thing I remember about it.
- 25:52SPEAKER_07: I was uh back in the days when I was still living near the army base in Alabama, Fort Rucker.
- 25:57SPEAKER_07: I went for a long training run, and then we got lightning in the area, and I was not far from the gym when the lightning started.
- 26:07SPEAKER_07: So I did the rest, and I'm my best guess is about 17 or 18 miles.
- 26:13SPEAKER_07: And what I remember is that I think I got off once, but when I was all done, to say that it was hard to walk would be an exaggeration, but it was noticeably different just trying to walk after you get off that treadmill.
- 26:31SPEAKER_07: So I think breaking it up at least once an hour is a good idea.
- 26:36SPEAKER_07: And I mean the the treadmill works, the the principal difference between a treadmill and running outside is there's no drag.
- 26:44SPEAKER_07: When when I'm running through the air, the just without any wind now, just the force of me pushing through the atmosphere is drag.
- 26:55SPEAKER_07: That doesn't occur on the treadmill.
- 26:57SPEAKER_07: Now you can make up for that by putting about a one-degree incline in, which I didn't.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: Your treadmill lets you go more than an hour, or I mean, what's because I know my treadmill at my gym, they had a they they had a 45-minute uh limit on it, but then during COVID, they made it 30 minutes so that people can get in out and get their workouts going.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you ever changed the back because I hate running on the treadmill.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: I'd rather run outside in the rain than than run on the treadmill.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my my gym doesn't have like a posted rule anywhere.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, but to your point though, about limits, uh, as I learned because I had to do this several times, is the particular brand of treadmill that they have maxes out at 99 minutes.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: So, although the one time I forgot to change the setting when I had started and then got really, really confused when it hit the hour mark, and all of a sudden it was like, it's time to cool down.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no, it's not.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Uh, but you know, you and then of course, then not like I was trying to do the math in terms of because obviously you know the distance resets and and everything, but um, yeah, so thankfully my gym didn't have any rules like that.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: And I mean now obviously if there were people waiting, then I probably would have gotten off, but uh thankfully there's there's enough in my gym that that situation didn't occur.
- 28:18SPEAKER_07: All right, so Greg goes from a long treadmill run to because of the storms, then he goes to Vienna, and now he's going back to the storms.
- 28:30SPEAKER_07: That's fascinating.
- 28:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 28:33SPEAKER_07: Did we say you were heading to New Orleans this weekend?
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: No, I didn't say I was saying to New Orleans, but no, I I will be in New Orleans uh this weekend, and apparently there's a hurricane coming now, so that's gonna be uh that's gonna be a first for me.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: So you know maybe I will run outside for a hot second and I can get a uh hurricane PR run or something.
- 28:50SPEAKER_07: Here's a first.
- 28:51SPEAKER_07: We're in uh mid-October.
- 28:54SPEAKER_07: That'll be the first hurricane that comes close to land here in the US.
- 28:59SPEAKER_07: That's I don't know how long it's been.
- 29:01SPEAKER_07: It it's not the first time it's had first, certainly the first since I've been here.
- 29:05SPEAKER_07: I don't know if it's the first in my lifetime or not, but yeah.
- 29:08SPEAKER_07: For those of us who are in the Gulf or in the Atlantic Coast area, we're not complaining about that.
- 29:16SPEAKER_07: So, and it shouldn't the temperatures in the Gulf while still warm are down, so the megastorms uh are not the the energy is just not there to produce the megastorms.
- 29:28SPEAKER_07: Of course, the one that hits you is a megastorm, so good luck.
- 29:32SPEAKER_07: Thanks.
- 29:33SPEAKER_07: What else you got going on, Greg?
- 29:35SPEAKER_07: You're heading to New York in a little while, right?
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so actually, uh yeah, this kind of segues very nicely.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Um, right before uh I took off for Vienna, uh, we shared a reel to announce that um we are going to be doing a meetup during the New York City Marathon, but this time it's not going to be branded as the Rise and Run meetup sponsored by uh the Will Run for podcast.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: As we know that that that famous joke happened a couple of years ago where um a meetup got organized and not one single one of us was there, including John, who's obviously the closest, but yet I think it was Michael, Aaron, or and Tom, I think were all at present at that and uh and harassed Doug about it to this day.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: But the the idea for this came about this was a couple of months ago, you know, and just seeing so many friends that we have made in this community and other community groups who are going to be participating in this weekend.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: And you know, I I love how you know we do it on our own during uh all the Run Disney race weekends and and other groups do their events.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: And I was like, well, you know, if we're gonna have such great representation, instead of you know, everyone doing their own isolated events, let's just have one big party and one big get together.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: So I reached out to a bunch of friends, uh you know, not limited to we'll run for podcasts, one more run podcast, um, Kristen over at Running and Makeup, the Pelkie Running Club.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, just there again, so much representation from the Run Disney community that's going to be there.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: So we are going to be organizing a very informal meetup.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I have some of the details to share with you all right now.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: So this is going to be occurring on Friday, October 30th, from 5:30 uh in the afternoon until 7 o'clock.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're going to be meeting at a bar uh that is called Porchlight.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, and this is on 11th Avenue.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: It's about a half a mile walk from the Javit Center, which is where uh the expo for the New York City Marathon takes place.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Again, the idea of this is just to have a big community get together, see friends, encourage you know everyone throughout the course of this race weekend.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: And this isn't exclusive to just you know all those groups that I mentioned before.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: This is open to anybody and everybody.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: Um, like I said, we want to be really all inclusive with this event.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: So again, the 30th from 537 Porch Light.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, the address of that is 271 11th Avenue uh in New York City.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: And again, because of you know, just you know, the more informal nature of this, the cost is going to be pay as you go.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: So if you're interested in getting food or drinks, um, you know, again, you'll just purchase that on your own.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: And or, you know, whether or not you you choose not to to drink, you know, during that particular weekend, that's totally fine.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: And you just want to come and be with everybody, that is totally fine.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Our friends AJ and Erica over at the uh the One More Run podcast, they went ahead and they made a Google form.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: So if you are interested in attending, we just ask you to get that filled out.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Just that you know, we want to get a basic headcount and see uh you know what size group that we're looking at in case you know maybe it's bigger than we were anticipating, and maybe we wouldn't need to possibly change the venue.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: So we just want to get that data up front.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I will be uh posting that to our Facebook page uh here in the next couple of days.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: So if you could fill that out.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Um, but again, yeah, so this is just gonna be an awesome get together.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: The the way that I've looked at it is one of my favorite movies, The Muppets Take Manhattan.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Uh it's such a great film.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: So the impetus here is Run Disney takes Manhattan, and I think we're gonna have a grand and glorious time.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: So hope you all can make it.
- 33:54SPEAKER_02: I I just looked it up on the on the uh Google Earth, and it's right across the street from a Rolls Royce dealership.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Good uh pick in there, Greg.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Hey, listen, I I mean, listen, I uh you get your race, bib, you get a get a happy hour beer, and and a brand new car.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: No better afternoon than that, that's for sure.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 34:13SPEAKER_07: Sounds like fun.
- 34:14SPEAKER_07: Hope you have a good time.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 34:20SPEAKER_07: I'm ready to turn to the microphone and ask, what would Alicia do?
- 34:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, Bob.
- 34:32SPEAKER_08: So we were just doing our training updates.
- 34:35SPEAKER_08: I had mentioned that I've had to change things around for my schedule.
- 34:39SPEAKER_08: Um, and part of that is I'm getting up really early to fit in my runs where I can.
- 34:44SPEAKER_08: Um, otherwise they're not gonna get done.
- 34:46SPEAKER_08: But with getting up early means that the sun is just rising, and for a lot of our friends, they might be going out when the sun isn't, hasn't risen yet, or maybe when it's getting darker.
- 34:59SPEAKER_08: And so I just wanted to talk briefly about safety again, just a couple of reminders.
- 35:03SPEAKER_08: Um, we did have an episode way back in episode 89 where um we talked all things safety.
- 35:10SPEAKER_08: Um, in that episode, we talked to the woman who runs GoGuarded, which I did uh make sure um that our code still works for that.
- 35:18SPEAKER_08: So um it's capital R, capital A, capital R for 15% off GoGuarded.
- 35:24SPEAKER_08: Um that's always something that I take on my long runs, actually, all of my runs.
- 35:29SPEAKER_08: But some safety things to think about um are those Knox gear vests.
- 35:35SPEAKER_08: I know all of you guys have those, right?
- 35:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I do.
- 35:38SPEAKER_07: Yes, yes.
- 35:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 35:39SPEAKER_08: Um people seem to really like those.
- 35:41SPEAKER_08: And then a couple of apps just to um maybe help our friends out.
- 35:47SPEAKER_08: Is there's a new one that I heard about that's called Noonlight L N-O-O-N-L-I-G-H-T.
- 35:56SPEAKER_08: Um that is a safety feature app.
- 35:59SPEAKER_08: Um, there's also Safe Beacon, which was road ID before that, Garmin Live Track.
- 36:04SPEAKER_08: Um, there's safety alarms, but we just want to make sure that all our friends are out there safely running um because we all want to get to our races and and remain safe.
- 36:15SPEAKER_07: So it's an important topic and one that I sometimes feel frustrated that I can't do enough about.
- 36:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 36:23SPEAKER_07: And I listened to our friends talking about running while female.
- 36:28SPEAKER_07: It makes me sad.
- 36:31SPEAKER_07: But I the best I can do is talk about it and offer that episode that you referred to.
- 36:39SPEAKER_07: That was pretty good.
- 36:40SPEAKER_07: Uh it was, yeah.
- 36:42SPEAKER_07: Good.
- 36:42SPEAKER_08: Hard topics, but it was a good episode.
- 36:45SPEAKER_07: GoGuarded, all one word, go guarded.com, and she sells safety devices, you know, self-defense devices, I guess, would be a fair way to put it.
- 36:57SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 36:57SPEAKER_07: She sells them for women, anybody could use them.
- 37:01SPEAKER_07: Uh yeah, so so good advice.
- 37:05SPEAKER_07: And as far as you talked about I love I love being here.
- 37:10SPEAKER_07: Uh I've been throughout the country.
- 37:12SPEAKER_07: I love where we've settled.
- 37:13SPEAKER_07: I love the weather despite the fact I complain about the heat.
- 37:16SPEAKER_07: All right, deal with it.
- 37:18SPEAKER_07: I still love it.
- 37:19SPEAKER_07: It gets light very late here.
- 37:24SPEAKER_07: Like I go out at 7 15.
- 37:27SPEAKER_07: It's at 7 a.m.
- 37:29SPEAKER_07: it's still dark.
- 37:29SPEAKER_07: And you're gonna see this when you come for wine and dine, because we won't have switched over times at that point.
- 37:36SPEAKER_07: So yeah, if you if you're in the uh A, B, or C corrale like I am, we're gonna get a night race.
- 37:43SPEAKER_07: We're gonna start and finish in the dark.
- 37:44SPEAKER_07: I think most people will for the 5K.
- 37:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:48SPEAKER_07: Because it won't be getting light here until by that time of year, it'll be close to 7:30 before it starts to get light here in Florida.
- 37:57SPEAKER_07: But again, that means that people who are going to work uh are running in the dark if you're running before you go to work.
- 38:03SPEAKER_07: So you've got the visibility issue and uh just the general safety issue.
- 38:07SPEAKER_07: Know where you are, make sure someone else knows where you are when you go out, make sure someone else knows when you're expected back, and just be aware of your surroundings.
- 38:19SPEAKER_07: If you can, if you can run with someone else, that's helpful.
- 38:23SPEAKER_07: We can't all do that, but that's another way to make yourself more safe.
- 38:28SPEAKER_07: And just go ahead, us that run on the road.
- 38:31SPEAKER_02: Assume the car is gonna hit you.
- 38:34SPEAKER_08: That's a fair thing to say run against traffic.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, run against traffic.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: Uh, if you see a car at a corner, assume he does not see you.
- 38:43SPEAKER_07: Assume he doesn't see you.
- 38:44SPEAKER_07: That's that's always good advice.
- 38:45SPEAKER_07: Assume the car doesn't see you until you make eye contact with the driver and they acknowledge you.
- 38:49SPEAKER_07: Assume they don't see you.
- 38:51SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Because they're probably looking, you're running against traffic, so you're you're looking the other way, so and what making a turn out of a corner or out of a driveway.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: So assume he doesn't see you.
- 39:04SPEAKER_07: That can happen.
- 39:06SPEAKER_07: Important topic, Alicia.
- 39:08SPEAKER_07: Maybe uh maybe we'll see if we can't address an episode towards it again in the future, because it's been a while since we did the last one.
- 39:16SPEAKER_07: So thanks for bringing that up.
- 39:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 39:18SPEAKER_07: Because that's what Alicia would do.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: Caution runners, the topic is about to change right now.
- 39:26SPEAKER_07: Hey friends, uh, winter virtuals, or I guess I can call them I guess I can call them Christmas virtuals.
- 39:34SPEAKER_07: I don't think Disney did.
- 39:35SPEAKER_07: They certainly have a Christmas theme.
- 39:38SPEAKER_07: The registration went off today.
- 39:40SPEAKER_07: I'm going to ask a question I think I know the answer to.
- 39:44SPEAKER_07: Anybody here register?
- 39:46SPEAKER_08: Not for these ones.
- 39:47SPEAKER_07: I didn't think so.
- 39:48SPEAKER_07: And I think that tends to be the way.
- 39:51SPEAKER_07: Folks who do the lives, I don't know.
- 39:54SPEAKER_07: These look neat.
- 39:56SPEAKER_07: The metals look pretty cool.
- 39:58SPEAKER_07: The Christmas hat's nice.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Is there a is that part of the swag?
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: It's a stitch.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: Santa hat.
- 40:05SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: It's a stitch Santa hat, it looks like.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, from what I'm seeing here.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: So it looks pretty cool.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: I mean.
- 40:15SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah, that's cute.
- 40:17unknown: Yeah.
- 40:17SPEAKER_07: What else is in the swag?
- 40:19SPEAKER_08: You have a vinyl sticker pack, some stitch dummy trees?
- 40:27SPEAKER_08: I think that's a good thing.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: Christmas trees, it looks like, yeah.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 40:31SPEAKER_08: Uh shoe ornament because the metals this year are not tree ornaments, but they included a special stitch shoe ornament.
- 40:42SPEAKER_08: And then you get one of four different flavors of twining's tea.
- 40:47SPEAKER_08: Well, there you go.
- 40:48SPEAKER_08: Christmas tea, peppermint, winter spice, or gingerbread.
- 40:52SPEAKER_07: If you're on the fence, I'm sure the tea pushed you over the top, right?
- 40:55SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: Well, unfortunately, it's all sold out.
- 40:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it did sell out.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 41:01SPEAKER_08: Mm-hmm.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: Well, getting a run by run from Joe.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: Joe was telling me, I was in the queue only a minute.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: He got in quick and he goes, it's still there, but then finally later in the day, it did sell out.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: It did, yep.
- 41:15SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 41:16SPEAKER_07: A couple of things that number one, that surprises me.
- 41:19SPEAKER_07: Number two, and we ask this rhetorically every time they do a virtual run.
- 41:24SPEAKER_07: Why do they sell out of virtual runs?
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: I I think they've they've changed it, Bob.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Uh before you got the medals after the event was over.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: I mean the old like when I did the summer series during COVID, you got the medals at the end of at the end of the period.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: At the end of the period.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: Now you're getting them before it happens, so you can actually, okay, here I got my medal with the week you're doing it.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: I think that's what they're might be doing now.
- 41:53SPEAKER_08: Speaking of that, did you have you guys seen anybody get the haunted mansion themed ones?
- 42:00SPEAKER_08: Because I did sign up for those and I have not received mine anyway.
- 42:03SPEAKER_08: That's a good point.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: No, I have not seen any because usually when people get them, they'll they'll post photos and videos of the boxes.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I haven't seen anything.
- 42:10SPEAKER_08: Okay, I hadn't either, and I was like, oh gosh, I hope that they're not lost in the mail.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: I have somebody to ask.
- 42:17SPEAKER_07: Uh I don't know.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: I'll find that out for you because I might know somebody that has it.
- 42:21SPEAKER_07: You have inside information, John?
- 42:23SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 42:24SPEAKER_07: I did not only from from uh John's secret source, but I saw other folks saying that the registration process was relatively painless.
- 42:36SPEAKER_07: It got through pretty quick.
- 42:38SPEAKER_07: I heard some speculating that maybe Disney had upgraded the registration.
- 42:43SPEAKER_07: I think more likely there just aren't as many people registering.
- 42:47SPEAKER_08: I agree with that, yeah.
- 42:49SPEAKER_07: But if you did it, I'm glad you did.
- 42:51SPEAKER_07: And enjoy it.
- 42:53SPEAKER_07: The medals look good.
- 42:55SPEAKER_07: They're nice stitch.
- 42:56SPEAKER_07: They're nice, yeah.
- 42:57SPEAKER_07: A lot of people like Stitch, like the theme.
- 43:00SPEAKER_07: So I hope you have fun with that.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 43:07SPEAKER_07: Another thing, not really related, but another thing that happened this week is the wine and dine after party tickets were mailed.
- 43:16SPEAKER_07: I presume, guys, you've got yours.
- 43:20SPEAKER_07: John, Alicia?
- 43:21SPEAKER_08: It was supposed to come in the mail today, but there was somebody parked in front of my mailbox, so they didn't deliver in the mail, so hopefully tomorrow.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Can they can't get out of the car and put it in the mailbox?
- 43:32SPEAKER_08: Apparently, not today.
- 43:33SPEAKER_08: I don't I think my mailman's frustrated.
- 43:35SPEAKER_08: We have road construction and it's been going on since May, and he's really struggling to deliver mail everywhere.
- 43:41SPEAKER_08: I think he was probably like, forget it, they'll get it tomorrow.
- 43:44SPEAKER_07: Neither rain nor sleep nor hail.
- 43:47SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 43:48SPEAKER_07: But a guy parked in front of the mailbox.
- 43:53SPEAKER_02: I got mine.
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: I got mine today.
- 43:56SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm happy.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: I got Chewbacca on my card.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: Chewbacca.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: New John.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Either that or Run Disney is just teasing the hell out of you.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: Star Wars is never coming.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: They're trolling me, yeah.
- 44:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 44:12SPEAKER_07: I've already linked mine to my uh my Disney Experience account.
- 44:18SPEAKER_07: So and I even took a picture just in case.
- 44:24SPEAKER_07: That means you're going, Bob, right?
- 44:25SPEAKER_07: So if you link it.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm going.
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: I plan to go, yeah.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: So if you link it, you cannot give it to somebody.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: So just make sure if you're not if you're up in the air of going or not, do not link it.
- 44:35SPEAKER_07: Hold off.
- 44:36SPEAKER_07: And we've talked about this before.
- 44:38SPEAKER_07: Disney will tell you you can't sell or transfer those, but it's another one of those things that is never, never enforced.
- 44:46SPEAKER_07: I mean, I wouldn't do it in front of a cast member.
- 44:48SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 44:49SPEAKER_07: But you know, if you want to uh I've had people actually just send me the number and I've linked it to my MDE and it's worked for me.
- 45:00SPEAKER_07: What we'll probably do this year, I'll pass this along.
- 45:03SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 45:04SPEAKER_07: I uh Becky will probably come with they're really unlikely to throw you out of the park.
- 45:12SPEAKER_07: But if she would try to get in line for a character photo or for really for anything, they might get checked there.
- 45:20SPEAKER_07: So, but just walking around, I think, and I'm don't quote me on this, but I think she'd be okay.
- 45:26SPEAKER_07: So maybe we'll maybe we'll walk around.
- 45:30SPEAKER_07: Uh I'll have mine and she won't, and we'll just stay until we get tossed out.
- 45:36SPEAKER_07: How's that sound?
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Just make sure she doesn't have a scene because we we can't take that kind of PR hit if uh you know what wife of podcaster gets tossed out of Epcot.
- 45:46SPEAKER_07: One thing, one thing we'll do, and I think I need to talk about this more, is we will get together.
- 45:52SPEAKER_07: They'll do the fireworks display.
- 45:56SPEAKER_07: This is how it's happened in the past.
- 45:58SPEAKER_07: I assume it'll be the same.
- 45:59SPEAKER_07: They'll do the fireworks display, and then kind of all the lights will go down, and Epcot will be closed.
- 46:08SPEAKER_07: We head over to the American Pavilion Barbecue section, the Regal Eagle, and just hang out there for a while.
- 46:18SPEAKER_07: It's kind of our last get together, chance to say goodbye to everybody, or a chance to get together and say, What do you want to do now?
- 46:24SPEAKER_07: when they open back up at 10 o'clock.
- 46:26SPEAKER_07: And there's no mistaking when they open back up, all the lights come on and they make announcements.
- 46:31SPEAKER_07: It's kind of fun.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: You know, the one tip that I wanted to pass along to people is that when it comes to that after party, if you plan on using your$15 digital gift card that you'll be receiving in, I think it's like the next three or so.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: Is if you're gonna save it for the party, plan to use it only at the food booth because I think a majority of the other you know, Disney owned and operated restaurants shut down during the party.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: Because I remember I think it was two years ago when I went, everyone uh in the the group that I was with was craving one of those brioche uh ice cream sandwiches from from the friend or the France Pavilion.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: And I remember after uh Illuminous, we you know, we headed over there and it was closed for the night.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: So I think you pretty much your food options for the party are going to strictly be those you know food booths that are spread all throughout uh Epcot.
- 47:31SPEAKER_08: Greg, you were the one who I think talked about this on a couple episodes ago.
- 47:36SPEAKER_08: October 15th is what you said for the gift card.
- 47:39SPEAKER_08: Okay, when they would be emailed out.
- 47:41SPEAKER_07: So something I haven't done in a little while.
- 47:44SPEAKER_07: We did it years back.
- 47:46SPEAKER_07: Alicia, you probably were with us, is made late dining reservations and then enjoyed the after party after the dinner.
- 47:55SPEAKER_07: Uh we did that two years.
- 47:58SPEAKER_07: We had we it was great the first year.
- 48:01SPEAKER_07: We had a really good time.
- 48:02SPEAKER_07: There maybe, I don't know, 10 or 12 of us together, and we had a lot of fun.
- 48:07SPEAKER_07: Then the next year we did something similar, and when dinner was over, it was pouring rain.
- 48:13SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 48:15SPEAKER_07: And Bucky and I left.
- 48:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 48:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 48:19SPEAKER_07: So that's the uh that's the after party.
- 48:24SPEAKER_07: And like I said, we're kind of winging it this episode.
- 48:26SPEAKER_07: That kind of reminds me of another party, which is our get together.
- 48:31SPEAKER_07: Our get together, the meetup on Saturday, 3 p.m.
- 48:38SPEAKER_07: in the area formerly known as the food court area.
- 48:42SPEAKER_07: Now it's just a funny symbol.
- 48:44SPEAKER_07: Uh but we'll be there.
- 48:46SPEAKER_07: Well, we'll be there a little before three.
- 48:48SPEAKER_07: I say we.
- 48:49SPEAKER_07: Becky and I will be there a little before three.
- 48:52SPEAKER_07: Becky likes to establish a beach head.
- 48:55SPEAKER_07: She's a tactical commander at that point.
- 48:58SPEAKER_07: She starts taking over tables.
- 49:00SPEAKER_07: It's a it's a glorious thing to watch.
- 49:03SPEAKER_07: Uh but by three o'clock, we should be all set up and have the cookies there.
- 49:10SPEAKER_07: And at 3:30, we will gather for our glorious group photograph.
- 49:17SPEAKER_07: Always a highlight.
- 49:18SPEAKER_07: I enjoy it.
- 49:19SPEAKER_07: I get a kick out of it, guys.
- 49:20SPEAKER_07: I get a kick out of the group get together.
- 49:23SPEAKER_07: I get a kick out of seeing how many people are there.
- 49:25SPEAKER_07: I mean, I'm smiling now, just thinking about it.
- 49:28SPEAKER_07: And then we'll hang in as long as you want.
- 49:30SPEAKER_07: Normally around 4:30 or 5, people have dinner reservations and they start to leave.
- 49:35SPEAKER_07: So my point is if you're there a little early, great.
- 49:38SPEAKER_07: If you can't get there till hopefully you can get there at 3:30, but heck, if you can't even get there till 4, well, somebody will still be there.
- 49:45SPEAKER_07: So we really genuinely hope to see you there.
- 49:48SPEAKER_08: I just want to remind our friends who might not know where that food truck area was.
- 49:53SPEAKER_08: So if you go to the west end, which there should be maps, or you can ask a cast member, but if you go to the west end um where the big balloon is, it may or may not be going that day.
- 50:04SPEAKER_08: Um, there's also a Starbucks, it will be to the left of the Starbucks, is where the area is.
- 50:09SPEAKER_07: The balloon will be there.
- 50:10SPEAKER_07: If you're looking at the balloon, as Alicia said, we're to your left unless you're treading water.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, in which case, unless you're in an amphi car or attempting to uh rob paddle fifty.
- 50:24SPEAKER_07: It would be in which case it would be to your right.
- 50:28SPEAKER_06: That's true.
- 50:29SPEAKER_07: But but you can't miss us.
- 50:31SPEAKER_07: Um I enjoy it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_07: If the people have been before, you I'll say this, I say it every week.
- 50:37SPEAKER_07: People who've been before come back.
- 50:38SPEAKER_07: People who haven't been there before, I can usually tell.
- 50:42SPEAKER_07: Usually kind of hang out, and people come wandering up and they're kind of looking and they're not sure.
- 50:48SPEAKER_07: And uh you are welcome there.
- 50:51SPEAKER_07: I promise you, you're welcome there.
- 50:53SPEAKER_07: You will feel welcome there, you will enjoy it, and we look forward to seeing you.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: By the way, going back to paddlefish for a second, do they ever catch that guy?
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: Or is that like a Disney unsolved mysteries?
- 51:06SPEAKER_07: If if they did, I'm not aware of it.
- 51:08SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 51:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I don't know.
- 51:09SPEAKER_07: I mean, if it wasn't the crime of the century, so I'm not sure it would have made it.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: No, no, but I mean that that that's like no pun intended here, some like Ocean's uh 11 uh you know style stuff.
- 51:20SPEAKER_02: Get Robert Stack out there, unsolved unsolve mysteries, yeah.
- 51:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:25SPEAKER_08: Well that's good.
- 51:26SPEAKER_07: Go ahead, Atliche.
- 51:27SPEAKER_08: And if you're at the meetup, um, I know that I talk about Everglaze Donuts a lot.
- 51:33SPEAKER_08: There is a discount.
- 51:34SPEAKER_08: I don't remember exactly how much it is.
- 51:36SPEAKER_08: Actually, I do because I haven't written down right here.
- 51:39SPEAKER_08: There's 10% off there's 10% off an Everglazed Donut um if you show them um a medal or something from the race.
- 51:49SPEAKER_08: Obviously, um you if you're Ariel Pass, you can also use that as a discount there.
- 51:54SPEAKER_08: Um, but it's it's just down the way.
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: That's a good point, Alicia.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: At the Disney Springs area, uh a lot of the restaurants, if you show your medal, they will give you a discount.
- 52:07SPEAKER_02: I know uh what's it like 15%, I think, sometimes?
- 52:10SPEAKER_02: So it depends, it varies.
- 52:11SPEAKER_07: It's as high as 20.
- 52:12SPEAKER_07: It depends on what it is and where it is.
- 52:15SPEAKER_08: And some of them, I did write down one of them for Raylan Road is actually on alcohol too, if you are.
- 52:23SPEAKER_08: Wow, that's unusual.
- 52:25SPEAKER_08: Yes, it is unusual.
- 52:26SPEAKER_07: But I'll change our dinner reservations, Chad.
- 52:30SPEAKER_08: All that information is on the event guide um on the run display.
- 52:34SPEAKER_08: That's right.
- 52:35SPEAKER_07: That's right.
- 52:35SPEAKER_07: The event guide.
- 52:36SPEAKER_07: Check the event guide.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: You know, that's where what's his name?
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: Uh Joe ate before he did his virtual uh Oh, when yeah, when he did his entire dopey uh around Hourglass Lake, yes.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we we might stay away from there.
- 52:51SPEAKER_01: That's true, yeah.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: But actually, no, speak okay, I'm gonna wrap, I'm gonna tie this all together now.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: So speaking of our meetup spot and booze, I also apparently there's a new hack that is out there.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: Maybe not call it a hack per se, but uh if you've ever been to Art Smith's homecoming, you can get those like squeezy bottles um like with the moonshine or whatever.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: I have six of them in a okay, Bob.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: Bring them with you, bring them with you to the meetup because apparently what you can do is you can go to any of the bars over at Splitzville, which is very, very close to the food truck area, and you can get those refilled with cocktails over there at a discounted price as well.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: Too so there you go.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: The more the more you know.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, flash up the NBC graphic here.
- 53:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:41SPEAKER_07: Friends who are relatively new to the uh to the Run Disney game used to be it's still true that when you go to buy your first beer at the expo or wherever it is, it'll be in a commemorative cup and it'll be I don't know,$17 or something like that.
- 54:00SPEAKER_07: It's more than the gift card, I can tell you that.
- 54:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, not at the expo anymore, though, Bob.
- 54:04SPEAKER_08: You can't get the commemorative cup only after the races.
- 54:07SPEAKER_08: But you can I think you can still maybe I don't know if they have the discount at the expo, but after the races.
- 54:19SPEAKER_07: And then you'd bring it back with you for the next races.
- 54:22SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 54:22SPEAKER_08: You can still do that at the races, but they'd only have the commemorative cups unless they changed it again for this race season at after the races.
- 54:31SPEAKER_07: Okay, but you can't bring it back like I can't bring it up.
- 54:34SPEAKER_08: No, you can.
- 54:35SPEAKER_08: You can bring it.
- 54:35SPEAKER_08: So if you get it on the 5k day, you can bring it to 10k.
- 54:38SPEAKER_07: No, no, no, no, no.
- 54:39SPEAKER_07: We used to bring we used to get them at Wine and Dine and bring them back at springtime supposed.
- 54:42SPEAKER_07: Oh, yes, yeah, yeah.
- 54:45SPEAKER_07: They used to not change.
- 54:46SPEAKER_07: Uh now they now they change.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they've they've changed.
- 54:51SPEAKER_07: That was all prize over younger.
- 54:54SPEAKER_02: Those resort refillable mugs.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:58SPEAKER_08: I used to do that at Blizzard Beach.
- 54:59SPEAKER_08: We had cups that they had certain days that were certain colors, and I would know the days, and I would just bring that cup that day and get the discount.
- 55:07SPEAKER_08: So yeah.
- 55:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 55:11SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 55:11SPEAKER_07: That's that's uh that's what's going on for parties.
- 55:15SPEAKER_07: Hey John, what's up?
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: Anything new with the shirts?
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, so uh yeah, so the shirts are ordered.
- 55:23SPEAKER_02: Uh Judy placed the order.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: So they're with the printer right now.
- 55:27SPEAKER_02: Hopefully the printer gets a nice turnaround and maybe she could get them out before Wine and Dine.
- 55:34SPEAKER_02: I will not guarantee it.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: But but knowing Judy, if she gets them, oh yeah, she'll have them out as quick as possible.
- 55:43SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, yeah, no question about that.
- 55:45SPEAKER_07: Uh and speaking of things, I said that I would put a sign up for hydro patches.
- 55:50SPEAKER_07: I did, and I got some hydra patches.
- 55:53SPEAKER_07: I have a hundred hydra patches here in the house with me.
- 55:56SPEAKER_07: I'm going to be those of you who put your name on the list, I'm going to be contacting you by email.
- 56:01SPEAKER_07: If you haven't already heard from me, you'll hear from me before the weekend.
- 56:06SPEAKER_08: How did you get the hundred?
- 56:08SPEAKER_07: Yeah, not long after.
- 56:10SPEAKER_07: I mean, like if not within days, within hours after we talked about it, the uh the larger packages went back on sale.
- 56:17SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 56:18SPEAKER_07: So they call it the Hydra case.
- 56:20SPEAKER_07: Here, I'll I'll show it to you.
- 56:22SPEAKER_07: See, there you go.
- 56:23SPEAKER_07: This is really now this is really good podcasting, okay?
- 56:26SPEAKER_07: Look at that, all right.
- 56:28SPEAKER_07: And look at all the all right, anyway.
- 56:30SPEAKER_07: It it comes in, it comes in a box suitable for framing, but uh I'll be mailing them out.
- 56:36SPEAKER_07: Um for this hundred, we'll go with six dollars, including shipping.
- 56:42SPEAKER_07: That that that'll cover shipping.
- 56:44SPEAKER_07: I'll have to look uh and see if we're losing money on that or not.
- 56:49SPEAKER_07: So maybe the next time around.
- 56:51SPEAKER_07: And I there will be a next time around.
- 56:53SPEAKER_07: I'll order another hundred here probably next week.
- 56:57SPEAKER_07: Uh, if you want to get them at Wine and Dine, let me know that also, and I'll bring them.
- 57:05SPEAKER_07: I still it's still gonna be six bucks, whether I mail them to here or not.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: And if you don't don't, if you don't, you can always order them on the website.
- 57:13SPEAKER_07: You can.
- 57:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we've got our code RISENRUN25, which works.
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 25% off.
- 57:18SPEAKER_02: That gives you a nice discount.
- 57:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it it worked on the uh box of 100.
- 57:22SPEAKER_07: I got the 25 cent 25% off of the box of 100.
- 57:27SPEAKER_07: Our fifth anniversary is coming up.
- 57:31SPEAKER_07: The fifth anniversary of the Rise and Run podcast.
- 57:33SPEAKER_07: It's actually coming up on expo day of uh of Wine and Dine.
- 57:39SPEAKER_07: So that's two weeks from today.
- 57:41SPEAKER_07: We've got a couple things we'd like to do.
- 57:43SPEAKER_07: We'll be contacting our Patreons, and I'm going to provide you a list.
- 57:48SPEAKER_07: We want to we want your opinion on your five favorite episodes for our fifth anniversary.
- 57:57SPEAKER_07: Now, in doing this, we talked about this before recording tonight.
- 58:02SPEAKER_07: The Jeff Galloway episodes, the Chris Twiggs episodes, and the Brittany Charbonneau episodes, we're gonna we're gonna pull those out because we figure if we included those, our top five would be any episode with Jeff Galloway, any episode with Chris Twiggs, any episode with Brittany Charbonneau, and two others.
- 58:21SPEAKER_07: So we'd like to get uh five favorites.
- 58:27SPEAKER_07: The other thing we want to do, Brittany will be with us for the fifth anniversary episode.
- 58:33SPEAKER_07: She's agreed to join us as a co-host for that episode.
- 58:37SPEAKER_07: That should be fun.
- 58:38SPEAKER_07: We haven't talked to her for a while, and it's always a blast.
- 58:42SPEAKER_07: So that should be fun.
- 58:45SPEAKER_07: We would like to do a listener question episode for that.
- 58:50SPEAKER_07: And what I would really what we would really love for you to do is to call in your questions.
- 58:56SPEAKER_07: 727-266-2344.
- 58:59SPEAKER_07: I'll put this on Facebook.
- 59:01SPEAKER_07: Call in your questions for us.
- 59:03SPEAKER_07: I love nothing more than involving our friends in the episode so we get a chance to play your voices asking the questions, and then we'll answer them for you.
- 59:12SPEAKER_07: Try to limit them if you can.
- 59:14SPEAKER_07: Try to limit them to 30 seconds or so.
- 59:16SPEAKER_07: That goes by pretty quick.
- 59:18SPEAKER_07: So you may want to write them down and then call them in to us.
- 59:21SPEAKER_07: That's a recorded line.
- 59:22SPEAKER_07: When you when you call that number, you're going to get automatically sent to a recording.
- 59:28SPEAKER_07: So we got that coming up.
- 59:29SPEAKER_07: We look forward to that.
- 59:30SPEAKER_07: Uh let's see, what else we got going on, kids?
- 59:33SPEAKER_07: Roll call next week.
- 59:36SPEAKER_07: Next week is the Rise and Run roll call for Wine and Dine.
- 59:43SPEAKER_07: Get your names into the race report so we can recognize you as running Wine and Dine weekend.
- 59:52SPEAKER_07: Our friend Rob, who helps us a great deal with the race report, Rob and Monica both are very helpful, tells me that we're already at a record number of people for the roll call for Wine and Dine.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_07: So it may be a long episode next week.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_07: All right, friends.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_07: Hey, look, you know, we we've made this a feature.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_07: Now we talk about some other races that we have coming up.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_07: If you've got one you want us to talk about because you think you can get a bunch of rise and runners to join you in your area, let us know.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_07: I've got a list, I don't go through all of them here, but let me just highlight.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_07: I've been talking about the Rise and Run 5K in Kasimi, Florida.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_07: That's just a couple weeks away now.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_07: That is the weekend before Wine and Dime.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_07: Team Rise and Run is in there.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_07: We're still at seven people.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_07: I'm hoping we get more than seven folks there.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_07: Uh I've been, let's see, uh Space Coast, Frosty Dunn.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_07: Oh, I talked about the sun sky for folks in the Tampa St.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_07: Pete area, the sun sky, what used to be the Skyway Bridge 10K.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_07: That registration opened Monday at midnight.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_07: I actually got up at midnight to register because I thought it was going to be sold out by 6 in the morning.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_07: It wasn't.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_07: They have 8,000 spots.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_07: As I looked this evening before we started recording, there were 300 left.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_07: So if you're in the area, I'm mentioning it, but now by Thursday, chances are good that will be sold out.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_07: Uh our friend Greg Creel is very involved in another event that goes on that day.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_07: So if you get shut out of the Sunsky 10K and you're in this area, uh check out Greg's Lightning Warriors St.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_07: Patrick's 5K.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_07: He normally gives us a code for that.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_07: I don't have that yet.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_07: And going down my list, Bird in Hand, Bird in Hand Half Marathon Weekend registration has in fact opened.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_07: And how many days away is that, Bob?
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_07: 337.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_07: You didn't think I knew.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: I thought you knew.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_02: And our friends over at MBT are working on a uh rublock again this year.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_01: They are researching uh other uh potential areas, whether that's hotel chains or bed and breakfasts.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: Uh they're gonna maybe even try to make contact with the burden hand in across the street as well.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: So uh stay tuned for details as uh they gather all that information and then make the best decision in terms of uh what makes sense for a potential room block.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_07: I think we'll be taking over that town.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_07: We should all wear we should all wear rise and run shirts and they'll wonder what in the world's going on.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_07: Uh but that'll be fun.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_07: So that's just some of the races that are coming up again.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_07: If you want us to publicize yours, let us know.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_07: The next Zoom call is Thursday next Thursday, the 15th of October.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_07: That'll be the last Zoom call before Wine and Dine, except for the one that occurred yesterday.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_07: The EuroZoom is on Wednesday, but it's too late to announce that, so I'll skip it.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_07: Uh upcoming episodes.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_07: Hey, next week should be a lot of fun.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_07: Run Disney race announcer and friend of the Rise and Run podcast, John Pelke, will be here.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_07: We'll talk to John about the upcoming race season.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_07: I also want to talk to John.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_07: He uh very serious now.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_07: John went years joking about running, but for the second year in a row, he's going to run the half marathon in uh Memphis, Tennessee, the St.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_07: Judes half.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_07: I think that's in Memphis, right?
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, correct.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we'll see how he's going with his training.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_07: And I already mentioned Britney be with us the week after that.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_07: And now please stand clear of the door.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_07: It's time for a race report.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_07: The race report sponsored by Thomas Stokes, Stoked Metabolic Training, Stokes.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_07: I've really took it seriously this time, and I can feel the results.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_07: Again, this is not a visual podcast, but my friends, the shirt that I'm wearing here, uh six weeks ago I couldn't have worn it.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_07: I got it out of the closet and I put it right back.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_07: It's still a little snug, but it's not bad.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_07: So I am I am paying attention.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_07: And uh Tom's programs do work.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_07: I I was with he had his uh he had it, he has a Zoom call on Tuesday nights for the group.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_07: He was talking about recovery today.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_07: Uh normally he goes a little over an hour.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_07: I have to leave because we start recording here, but he does a great job.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_07: Look forward to seeing he's got Chicago and New York coming up, and he's still going to be at wine and nine.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_07: Always, always happy to see him there.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_07: All right, let's start on Saturday.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_07: In Empire, Michigan, they ran the Sleeping Bear National Shoreline half marathon.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_07: Bethany did that.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_07: There was a breast cancer awareness event.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_07: It is breast cancer awareness month in Hampton, Virginia.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_07: Uh the crawling crab 5K and half.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_07: I believe they may have had other distances.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_07: Alexis was there.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_07: A hard but memorable race between being sick and it raining most of the race.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_07: She was still able to PR her 5K, even though she was mostly walking.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_07: Hannah was there.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_07: This race is special to Hannah because she lost someone close to her to breast cancer back in February.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_07: Uh originally planned to do the challenge, the 5K and the half, had to settle for the 5K, which turned out to be just fine.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_07: And Catherine was also there.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_07: Mark was in Long Rose.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_07: Illinois for the Long Groves Oktoberfest half marathon.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_07: Jason had an Ultra in Harker Heights, Texas, the Dana Peak Trail Run 50K.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_07: In Bayshore, New York, the great South Bay Race weekend, Regina ran the half.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_07: Her early miles were consistently around 1120, so she made the first cutoff.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_07: By the halfway point, she realized she could PR if she could keep up her pace, so she skipped a few of her walk intervals at the end, finished just a touch over two hours and 30 minutes.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_07: A PR, shaving 17 minutes off of her last PR.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_07: Congratulations, Regina.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_07: Courtney was there, did the 10K part of a training run for the New York City Marathon.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_07: Liked the course with its rolling hills.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_07: She felt so good, she even PR'd her 10K by 15 minutes.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_07: Now, who said that summer training equals fall PRs?
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_07: They're dropping like flies, gang.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_07: We're proud of you.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_07: Our friend Kristen and Kristen friend Danielle were in Irving, Texas for the Oktoberfest half.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_07: It was a great race.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_07: It's growing in popularity, the Run Irving series.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_07: They were paced by Kristen's brother Jeremy, and they finished with PRs.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_07: Kristen at 2 30.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_07: That bested her previous PR by 24 minutes.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_07: Wow.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_07: That and a half?
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_07: That is awesome.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_07: Way to go, Kristen.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_07: There was an Easter Seals superhero hustle 5K in Villa Park, Illinois.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_07: Vicky ran it with her dad.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_07: They've been doing this one for years.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_07: Competition was stiff this year, but Vicky did very well.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_07: Finished in 21 minutes, 45 seconds, sixth overall, third female, first in her age group.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_07: Dad did well also.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_07: He finished in 2940, sub-30 minute 5K.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_07: The official results, however, say he finished in 2749.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_07: So scratch that 2940 stuff.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_07: He did it under 28 minutes.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_07: Good enough for 20th overall, third in his age group.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_07: And I got to tell you, friends, I love seeing uh people running with their parents because most of your parents are younger than me, but I still love seeing it.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_07: I think that's just fantastic.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_07: Congratulations, Vicky.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_07: Congratulations, Dad.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_07: There's a hot chocolate run uh 10K in Denver.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_07: Jessica ran it with her daughter, mother and daughter from North Georgia, who flew out to the race, ran the race, and flew back.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_07: That's pretty cool.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_07: Going from Georgia to Colorado.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_07: Uh the altitude didn't bother them as much as they thought it would.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_07: No PRs, but they had a great time.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_07: There was a Jell-O half marathon in LaRoy, New York, and Zach ran it.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_07: He ran it with his Aunt Kay, who came to visit him from South Carolina.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_07: Great course, a lot of fun.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_07: He was also four minutes faster to when he did the race last year.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_07: Good.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_06: Did they get Jell-O?
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_07: Jell O shots.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_07: That'd be awesome.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_07: It was a very brief report that Zach put in there.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_07: And I can't.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_07: Sometimes I can remember the specifics, sometimes I can't.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_07: That's okay.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_07: I don't recall seeing that.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_07: Now there was a weekend event in uh, let's see, in Minnesota, Twin Cities, the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_07: On Saturday, Becky ran the 10K, set a six-minute PR, and then Michael and Becky joined their two daughters for the kids' half mile race.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_07: Let's move on to Sunday and continue the Twin Cities weekend.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_07: Michael now ran the full for the second time.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_07: He doesn't know what was better.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_07: The colors in the trees or the spectators cheering him on.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_07: A new course PR of five hours, seven minutes.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_07: That's a PR by six minutes.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_07: Recommends this one for anybody who wants to do a marathon and see the fall colors.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_07: I have admitted this before, as much as I love living here.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_07: If there's one thing I miss, it's the fall foliage in the north.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_07: Jennifer was there.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_07: I did 10 miles in this one, I believe the race is a grind, roughly 200 feet of elevation for miles four through seven.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_07: She woke up with a virus that she's pretty sure she got from her children bringing it back from daycare, ended up being a little nauseated around mile eight, did end up finishing strong despite all this and happy with her pace.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_07: Well, there you go, Jennifer.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_07: You finish upright and with a smile on your face.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_07: That's a successful race.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_08: I also know that our friend Pamelo, who was part of the Council of Costumes and is local to Minnesota, she was at the 10 miler.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_08: I just wanted to throw that out there.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_08: That she was she was there.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_08: Um I don't know if she did an official race report, but she looked to keep it in her outfit, as always.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_07: As always.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_07: Thanks, Lisa.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_07: If she did one, I didn't see it.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_07: Sometimes she puts them on Instagram and I can't look all over.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's okay.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_07: And sometimes she just puts them on her Facebook page.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_07: Continuing on Saturday, up in Wisconsin, it was Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon Weekend.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_07: Had several friends there, and visiting with us this evening in the race report spotlight is Heidi.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_07: Heidi, welcome to the podcast.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_09: Hi, thank you so much for having me.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_07: Well, I know you I know you've gone through extra effort.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_07: See, I Heidi's a tough guest to get, friends.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_07: I tried her a year ago, and her agent said, no, she's not available.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_07: Uh you have to try again.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_07: So we tried this time, but I do.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_07: She really has worked hard to make it, and I appreciate it.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_07: So let's see.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_07: Heidi will open with our standard opening question, which is how did you get started running?
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_09: So I'm actually a new runner.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_09: Um I started in 2024.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_09: I woke up one day and decided I was gonna run a half marathon, even though I wasn't a runner previously.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_09: And then I remembered I had a friend who ran the Disney races, and I was a big Disney fan already.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_09: And then I looked at the schedule and I saw that Princess 2025, the half marathon, fell on my birthday, and it seemed like it was meant to be.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_09: And that's kind of how I started.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_07: Now, Heidi, I'm gonna guess you have an athletic background otherwise, though, because I'm looking at your race times and you look like an athletic person.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_07: Is that true or or no?
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_09: I'm a horseback rider.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_09: Um, so in some sense, yes, but um not in terms of like endurance sports or things like that.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_09: Um I'm brand new.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_02: So, Heidi, uh, you're out there in Milwaukee for this uh race weekend.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_02: You ran uh 5K on Saturday and the half on Sunday.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_02: You want to tell us about that?
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_09: The kind of piste resistance of the whole weekend is the hone bridge.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_09: And they do a really good job of incorporating that um in both the 5K course as well as the half marathon and the full marathon.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_09: Um so for the 5K, you basically run up the bridge for about a mile and a half, turn around and run right back down.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_09: Um but it's just a nice opportunity for everybody to get to experience the bridge.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_09: Um, runners, walkers, people can bring their dogs.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_09: So it's just kind of a fun family atmosphere for the 5K.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_07: How do you tell us if friends don't know what the hone bridge is?
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_07: Tell us what the significance is, and you already told us where it appeared on the 5K course.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_09: So the bridge connects downtown Milwaukee with suburbs on the southern end of the city, um, and it goes across Lake Michigan.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_09: So you get some really nice views of the lake and the city, and it's just kind of like an icon in Milwaukee.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and so it's not um a very elaborate course.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_09: You basically run to the top of the bridge, turn around and run back down, and that's basically the whole 5K.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_09: Um, and then for the half marathon and the full marathon, you start in downtown Milwaukee, and then you get to run through um parts of downtown, which lead into some neighborhoods where there's historic mansions that you get to run past.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_09: So that's always a neat experience for people.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_09: And then we run past Lake Michigan for a while, and then we enter the hone bridge around mile eight.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_09: Um, and for the half marathon, you run the entirety of the bridge, turn around and run straight back across it.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_09: The full marathon continues um in some of those southern suburbs for a little bit, and then they do the hone as the final piece of their full marathon.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_07: Bridges can be tough.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_09: It's tough.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_09: It's um about two miles long in total.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm I'm looking at the elevation on that bridge, Bob.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's it's got a nice little three and a half percent grade going up it, you know, so it's not you know no bridges can be tough, absolutely.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_07: Ask anybody who's run New York.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_07: Yeah, bridges can be really windy too.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_07: And it's windy, yeah.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_07: There's nothing to block the wind up there.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_07: No.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_07: How'd you do in the races, Heidi?
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_09: I did really well.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_09: I'm very happy with how the weekend went.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_09: Um, the 5k I ended up running a 26-21, I believe, which I think is a PR.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_09: And I ended up getting second in my age group, so I was very excited about that.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_07: Second out of 109.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I I get second as second out of three or second out of two.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_07: Second out of 109, that's pretty good.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_09: Thank you.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was a nice pleasant surprise.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_09: Um, and then the half, I got a 10-minute course PR, so I was again very happy with that.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_07: Just a tiny bit over two hours, 203.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_07: Pretty darn good, young lady.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, so uh, where are we gonna see you next?
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_02: Anywhere in Disney or any what else is on your horizon race-wise?
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_09: I will be at Marathon weekend um doing my first dopey.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_07: Dopey.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's it.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_07: That a girl.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_07: Good for you.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_07: Just take those first three nice and easy.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_09: I will try.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_07: Heidi, great race weekend for you.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_07: Thanks again for going out of your way to take the time to join us and to tell us all about it.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_07: Look forward to seeing you soon.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_07: Thank you so much.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_07: Thanks, Heidi.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_07: Now, as I mentioned, as we were speaking with Heidi, we had other friends who were there.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_07: Uh, Jesse was there.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_07: Jesse ran the half.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_07: She says the course was a challenge.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_07: She talks about the home bridge in the middle and the win.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_07: Slowed her down.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_07: Still, her effort was good enough for first in her age group.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_07: 11th overall female.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_07: Jesse, that's fantastic.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_07: Michelle was there.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_07: Michelle ran the full her first marathon.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_07: Congratulations on your marathon PR, Michelle.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_07: She also speaks of the headwinds on the bridge and the last stretch, which was tough, but there was a phenomenal group of people with serious energy, Mid-Bridge, who gave her the strength to push for the last mile.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_07: Quoting Michelle, runners are just the best community.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_07: Ain't that a fact?
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_07: Ellen was there also.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_07: Ellen was there cheering for the runners.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_07: Here's one we have folks at every year up in Corning, New York, the Wegman's wine glass half marathon.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_07: Michael and Terry were there, as was Chrissy.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_07: Chrissy missed her A go by 44 seconds.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_07: And although the weather was nice, the humidity made it a little tough at times.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_07: Still really happy with the overall race performance.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_07: Her daughter Alyssa finished her first half marathon in two hours, 16 minutes.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_07: Another PR bell, please.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_07: Up in Massachusetts, the Cambridge Fall Classic 5K Road Race.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_07: Jake was there.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_07: This is another one that bugs me.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_07: Jake almost always puts a report, and I have nothing here, so I may have missed it.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_07: Audrey was there with her mom and sister.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_07: Summer training paid off with a new PR.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_07: There you go.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_07: After they finished, the three of them walked back down to course to find their other sister, Sophie, who had walked the whole thing because she's about five months pregnant.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_07: Meanwhile, Audrey's daughter Melody had another kids' race and set another quarter mile PR.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_07: Melody, that's awesome.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_07: Way to go.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_07: Rob was there, had a great time.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_07: Weather was perfect, partly cloudy, about 56 degrees.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_07: Great course.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_07: Winds through part of the MIT campus.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_07: Pleased with his finishing time of 25 minutes, 17 seconds.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_07: Well, heck yeah, Rob, that's a great finish time.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_07: Well, let's stay in New England and go to Portland, Maine for the Maine Community Bank, Maine Half Marathon.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_07: They put Maine in there enough.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_07: That's good.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_07: They want you to know where it was, which will be important in just a second.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_07: Sarah was there.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_07: Sarah said, and I love this, I pulled a Jack.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_07: Yep, yep, yep.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_07: Jack is a phrase now, has been for a while.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_07: Didn't check the elevation charts.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_07: Still a great way race, weather was perfect, beautiful course, great volunteers.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_07: Sarah ran with her sister, her niece, and her niece's boyfriend.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_07: Uh for her niece and her boyfriend, it was their first half, and they both did great.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_07: More PRs.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_07: This was Sarah's first half since she DNF'd the Disney Halloween half marathon last year.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_07: Thank you to Alicia and to Tom for getting her to the finishing finish line strong and pain-free.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_07: Now, the reason we mention Maine so much in the first race, we go now to Portland, Oregon for the Portland half marathon.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_07: Sydney, Cindy, and Kristen were there.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_07: Kristen writes, she felt good about where she is in her training, so thought she had a chance at a PR, and she did.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_07: Got a new PR, beat the previous time by just under 12 minutes.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_07: You guys, you guys knocking out 12 and 13 minute PRs and half marathons.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_07: You're running a minute a mile faster.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_07: That is just fantastic.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_07: In Jersey City, New Jersey, the Jersey City 5K, Jen was there.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_07: First time running this relatively flat and fast course.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_07: Once she got to the three-mile mark, she booked it to the end and was thrilled to break 30 minutes into 5K and said a new PR of 2954.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_07: Great job, Jen.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_07: Sub-30 is a big deal.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_07: Murder said the race started and ended near her house, so she had to do it.
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_07: Course went through downtown.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_07: It's fast and flat.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_07: You ready for this?
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_07: New PR.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_07: Sub 27 minutes.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_07: Moving to Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6 kilometer race.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_07: That's an odd distance for a run, isn't it, John?
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_02: No, not when uh it's for Mario Lemieux, who is number 66 for the Pittsburgh.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_07: Oh my goodness.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_07: Those Pittsburgh guys, what do you think of next?
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_07: Huh?
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_02: Them pen them them penguins.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_02: Greatest player out there.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_02: It's for uh it's for blood cancer, which uh actually uh he hadn't blood, yeah.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_02: It was for blood cancer, and Mario had blood cancer, so and uh that's why he he there's a lot of support for uh for blood cancer research.
- 1:21:44SPEAKER_02: So it's a really good cause out there.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_07: Well, Andrew was there.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_07: Andrew ran it with his nephew London.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_07: Uh this is London's first race outside of the Brentwood Firecracker 5K.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_07: He placed in the top 150 overall and a PR for the distance.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_07: Andrew shaved three minutes nine seconds off his tie from two years ago to PR and continue his year of distance PR's goal.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_07: Good job, Andrew.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_07: In Tampa, Florida, the Howl O'Ween 5K.
- 1:22:21SPEAKER_07: Laura Ann and Stephanie ran this one together.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_07: Here's another one where I really believe I saw a report, but I don't have notes on it.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_07: I'll make it up to you if I missed it.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_07: Tiffany was there, had a lot of fun with her puppies, Bubba, Dash, and Tully.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_07: Whole lot of dogs on the course in costume, which added to the fun.
- 1:22:43SPEAKER_07: Uh, a little bit hot and humid this weekend, but they still really enjoyed the race.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_07: Afterward, the pups were all worn out and enjoyed their post-race nap.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_07: Abby was there, loved running this one.
- 1:22:55SPEAKER_07: Didn't PR, but definitely PR'd in cute dogs on the course.
- 1:23:00SPEAKER_07: So howl oween, the howl part.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_07: Must be for the puppies.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_07: The Rolling Thunder Special Needs Program 5K in Hecashire Park, Long Island, New York.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_07: Eileen was there and ran that one.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_07: This is another one I think I've missed a report on.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_07: All right, I'm gonna leave this one here, but I know what happened.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_07: Uh sometimes, friends, if you don't put in what day the race is, I have to guess.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_07: So I already talked about the crawling crab race in Hampton, Virginia.
- 1:23:34SPEAKER_07: But I have some other friends.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_07: I thought it was on Saturday, but when I saw the report that I got from Megan and Mary, I thought it was on Sunday.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_07: Anyway, Megan says they enjoyed the cooler weather with a light drizzle.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_07: It was a great training run.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_07: And Mary says, thanks for the rainy day advice that she got from you, friends, when she asked for that on Facebook.
- 1:23:56SPEAKER_07: And also the holler hype.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_07: So she finished this one with zero blisters.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_07: Half marathons for both, I believe.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_07: Uh, Catherine and Carrie were also there.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_07: This one, again, I'm pretty sure Sunday out in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_07: This looks beautiful.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_07: Albuquerque has a balloon festival every year.
- 1:24:13SPEAKER_07: They had a race with it, the great balloon chase half marathon.
- 1:24:17SPEAKER_07: Lance and Amy ran it.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_07: Uh altitude 5,000 feet in Albuquerque.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_07: That slowed them down a little bit because they train at sea level.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_07: They had a great run with a friend for his first half marathon.
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_07: They came in under their burden hand time.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_07: That's always nice.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_07: The real highlight of the weekend, of course, is the balloon festival.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_07: They got up on Saturday to attend the Mass Ascension and then went back in the evening for the glow.
- 1:24:41SPEAKER_07: A lot of great pictures that uh Lance posted on Facebook for us.
- 1:24:45SPEAKER_07: Again, I think that was Sunday.
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_07: It could have been Saturday.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_07: Of course, the smutty-nosed Rockfest Half Marathon went off in Hampton, New Hampshire.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_07: Uh, Sam ran it with Andrea.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_07: It was Andrea's first half outside of Disney World.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_07: Sam's third year in a row running Rockfest.
- 1:25:01SPEAKER_07: Beautiful weather for a race along coastal New Hampshire.
- 1:25:05SPEAKER_07: They both ran new PRs for the half marathon.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_07: Eight minutes for Sam, 25 minutes for Andrea.
- 1:25:15SPEAKER_07: In Makem County, Michigan, they ran the Stony Creek Metro Park Oktoberfest 30K.
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_07: Mark did it with Liz and Salvador three times around the lake.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_07: Total of 30 kilometers in this ultra.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_07: Course was beautiful.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_07: Through the woods, the meadow, and a park.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_07: First 30k for all three of them.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_07: Three more PRs.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_07: We're wearing out the bell, man.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_07: We were out.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_07: I knew we would, though, because summer training, yada yada.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_07: Here we go.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_01: Listen, but I I will say this though.
- 1:25:53SPEAKER_01: For as often as the monorail shuts down in Disney World, this bell will always work.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_07: That's right.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_07: Uh speaking of the monorail, speaking of being in the vicinity of the monorail, celebration Florida.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_07: The Advent Health Ribbon Run 5K Eric was there.
- 1:26:15SPEAKER_07: Good weather for Florida.
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_07: Uh, the most consistent training that he's had, and he was able to run a PR of 3544 for the 5K, a 10-minute PR.
- 1:26:29SPEAKER_07: In Ponta Vidra, Florida, the Pontavidra 10K Carrie-Ann was there.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_07: No PR.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_07: You're the one, Carrie Ann.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_07: There you go.
- 1:26:38SPEAKER_07: You're it.
- 1:26:38SPEAKER_07: I'm only kidding.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_07: Uh, but loved having friends from the Palatka Run Club.
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_07: Uh, so she's not going to these races alone anymore.
- 1:26:46SPEAKER_07: She PR'd in fun.
- 1:26:48SPEAKER_07: I think that run club is something that Carrie Ann established in her neck of the woods.
- 1:26:53SPEAKER_07: I think she's in charge of it.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_07: I think she set it up.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_07: So good for you, young lady.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_07: That's terrific.
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_07: Glenda was in Madison, Wisconsin for the Gilda's Club 5K.
- 1:27:04SPEAKER_07: They had Alice and two Disney princesses at the finish line.
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_07: They were from the Moment of Magic Foundation, which was the charity benefit for the course, for the race.
- 1:27:14SPEAKER_07: Uh, she was running the 5K with her granddaughter, who makes a very tall Tinkerbell, but probably not the tallest.
- 1:27:23SPEAKER_07: We'll leave that one go.
- 1:27:25SPEAKER_07: Up in Pennsylvania in Delaware County, the Delco 10 Miler, Shimika, ran it.
- 1:27:30SPEAKER_07: She had a goal of less than two hours.
- 1:27:33SPEAKER_07: She did it in an hour 58.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_07: Said it was cold and rainy.
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_07: First six miles gave her bird in hand flashbacks because it was Aritas on the course.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_07: Unfortunately, it wasn't open due to the time that the race went through.
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_07: The run started in Media, Pennsylvania, ended at the Philadelphia Unions field, where they gave out beer, pretzels, bananas, water, and cheesesteak.
- 1:27:57SPEAKER_07: Good thing to finish a Philadelphia run with.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_07: In Hoover, Alabama, which is a suburb of Birmingham, they ran the BHM 26.2.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_07: Holly was there.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_07: Went into the goal of finishing under an hour 20.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_07: Ended up with an official time just a little over an hour 12.
- 1:28:15SPEAKER_07: Very special event that benefits magic moments.
- 1:28:18SPEAKER_07: This is another charity that grants wishes to children with serious illnesses.
- 1:28:23SPEAKER_07: And obviously, after beating her goal by more than seven minutes, the only appropriate recovery was Mexican food and a margarita.
- 1:28:30SPEAKER_07: Let's wind up the uh race report with the Rail Trail 10K in Hamden, Connecticut.
- 1:28:36SPEAKER_07: Again, I'm not sure this was Sunday, but whenever it was, Nancy ran it.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_07: It was the 10th anniversary race for this run.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_07: Beautiful rail trail race, perfect for fall.
- 1:28:46SPEAKER_07: Third place age group for Nancy.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_07: That's terrific.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_07: Not a new town.
- 1:28:49SPEAKER_07: She's doing in the 169 Society there in Connecticut, but she had done this one in its inaugural running.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_07: There you have it, friends.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_07: The race report for episode 263 of the Rise and Run podcast.
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_07: Well, we made it through.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_07: Hope you enjoyed it.
- 1:29:06SPEAKER_07: Might be a little more exciting next week, friends, when our friend John Pelkey's with us.
- 1:29:12SPEAKER_07: Friends, and if you run, you know you are our friend.
- 1:29:15SPEAKER_07: We appreciate you being part of this wonderful rise and run family.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_07: Hope your training's going well.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_07: Looking forward to seeing you very soon.
- 1:29:27SPEAKER_07: Wait a minute, this is Disney.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_07: Looking forward to seeing you real soon.
- 1:29:30SPEAKER_07: Until then, happy running.
