Transcript
- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here now. Post COVID fatigue is a horrible
- 0:45condition and those people that have it or know someone that has
- 0:50it knows how distressing, debilitating it can be.
- 0:55And the client that I was working with had a very
- 0:57successful career, very much into their health and fitness.
- 1:01And then this condition came along and it kind of knocked
- 1:04them for six. It really kind of derailed their
- 1:07ability to live life on their terms.
- 1:10Now, this is a session that uses two really important metaphors.
- 1:15And it's all about finding balance, but also calibration.
- 1:20The first metaphor is the metaphor of Icarus.
- 1:23Icarus is based on Greek mythology where Icarus escapes
- 1:29from an island and they make wings made of feathers and wax.
- 1:34But the problem is is that if Icarus flies too high up into
- 1:37the sky, the sun melts the wax and they crash into the waves.
- 1:41And if they go too low then the waves start to get water on the
- 1:46feathers and again they crash. So Icarus is really a metaphor
- 1:52of not being too cocky or ambitious, but equally not being
- 1:57reckless. It's about finding that kind of
- 1:59middle ground. And that was very important for
- 2:03this client with post COVID fatigue because if they push
- 2:06themselves too hard, then effectively they would even use
- 2:09the word a crash as to what they would experience with the levels
- 2:12of fatigue that they would deal with.
- 2:14So that's one metaphor. The second metaphor is about
- 2:17riding a bike. Now, if you imagine a bike with
- 2:20no gears and a wobbly steering and uncomfortable and the brakes
- 2:25don't work, you're not likely to push that bike to the limits
- 2:29because you know that you could easily crash the bike or fall
- 2:32off the bike equally if you went from a bike.
- 2:36Like that? Into a very modern lightweight
- 2:40racing bike with lots of gears and very kind of responsive
- 2:45brakes and very, let's say, good quality mechanics like good
- 2:50pedals and gears and all this kind of stuff, Then actually you
- 2:54could push that bike further and be safer than on that wobbly
- 2:59rickety bike where nothing works.
- 3:01And that's quite a good metaphor for this particular client.
- 3:04Because they didn't know how far they could push themselves, they
- 3:07always had to err on the side of caution.
- 3:10So this uses some modality work, it uses metaphor, but it also
- 3:14paces their experience by taking them back to a memory where they
- 3:18felt really alert, full of clarity.
- 3:22So there's an element of regressing to the time when they
- 3:26felt they had the resources to deal with a situation like that.
- 3:29So if you can connect with this idea of post COVID fatigue or
- 3:33any fatigue or any autoimmune immune issues where you really
- 3:37feel that you're drained and you can't trust your body anymore.
- 3:40At its core, this is a session about rebuilding trust with your
- 3:44body through recalibration and respect and self-awareness.
- 3:48So if any of those themes connect with you, I think you'll
- 3:51get some value from this session.
- 3:53And equally, if you like the idea of working with me directly
- 3:56rather than listening to recordings, have a little look
- 3:59in the description or on my website, adamcox.co.uk and
- 4:03you'll see that you can book a free consultation call or see my
- 4:06packages and prices and things like that if that's of interest.
- 4:09If it isn't. Forget, I said.
- 4:10That, but if it is, check that out.
- 4:12For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 4:15won't be distracted or disturbed.
- 4:17Relax and enjoy the session. Take.
- 4:44A deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:54slow, long, deliberate breaths of relaxation and calm.
- 5:02And as you exhale, just imagine your outward breath is a release
- 5:09valve for any feelings of tension, stress, worry, or
- 5:14anxiety that you've been holding onto, and feel that relief and
- 5:21release in your outward breath before breathing in another deep
- 5:28breath of resourceful relaxation.
- 5:34It's good to relax, but it's better to feel resourceful, to
- 5:42feel that your resources exceed the demands around you.
- 5:51But right now, right here, there are no demands on you, nothing
- 5:58you have to do, no particular way.
- 6:01You have to think, and therefore your resources dramatically
- 6:09exceed current demands. And I want you to feel how that
- 6:16feels. Connect without feeling.
- 6:21And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 6:25And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 6:32And as your body relaxes, your imagination can take you back to
- 6:35a memory. You need to think of a time when
- 6:41you were fit, healthy, energetic, with clarity.
- 6:47A time when you were riding on a bicycle over hills, climbing the
- 6:54gradients of mountains, looking at picturesque lakes.
- 7:02And as you breathe in and breathe out, feel that sense of
- 7:07freedom, a connection with your body, that connection with
- 7:11nature. That's it.
- 7:15And maybe you can recall a particular lake that maybe you
- 7:23stopped by for a while. And I want you to imagine
- 7:32staring at the lake, and I want you to imagine seeing someone
- 7:44with wings made of wax and feathers flying over that lake.
- 7:57Just imagine it would be dangerous for them to get too
- 8:02close to the water of the lake. And equally in the blue skies
- 8:09and sunshine, maybe beyond their limits if they go too high.
- 8:19And as you see this modern Icarus flying over the lake, I
- 8:27want you to connect with that time in your life.
- 8:33Or it was intuitive and your body naturally adjusted whenever
- 8:40you were getting close to limits.
- 8:45I want you to get a feeling that that element of thriving within
- 8:54boundaries existed in your past and will exist in your future,
- 9:03and feel that you are reawakening the neural pathways
- 9:10to thrive within limitations, and occasionally to test those
- 9:17limitations to reflect and refine.
- 9:24I want you to imagine there by the lake is a comfortable chair.
- 9:33Imagine sinking into that comfortable chair, and as you do
- 9:40so, just get a sense that each breath is taking you deeper and
- 9:50deeper, relaxed and near this lake, a cycle lanes and paths
- 9:58and roads. And I want you to imagine, as
- 10:02you drift off into a dreamlike sleep, your imagination sees two
- 10:11different bikes side by side. One of the bikes represents
- 10:21modern technology, gears, an onboard computer and another
- 10:29bike seems basic, limited, only three gears, no suspension and
- 10:38maybe maybe it's not even that safe.
- 10:44Loose handlebars, ineffective brakes.
- 10:50I want you to get a sense, then you will experience the bike
- 10:58that best represents your mind, body, connection.
- 11:02Now allow the bike to change to reflect one life feels like for
- 11:11you, with no need to judge, just notice.
- 11:20I want you to see that those limited gears have an element of
- 11:28limitation, that if you needed to change gears quickly for
- 11:35different gradients or terrains, it would be more challenging on
- 11:40this basic bike. Imagine sitting on that bike and
- 11:48notice the brakes. They were, but not smoothly.
- 11:53Sometimes there might be abrupt, so even if you want to slow
- 11:57down, it feels like you're stopped in your tracks.
- 12:03And sometimes the brakes feel that.
- 12:06When you want to brake, you can't.
- 12:10And it continues. And before you even start riding
- 12:15the bike, you notice something else.
- 12:21That when you ride this bike, your vision is compromised,
- 12:28almost like wearing glasses of the wrong prescription, almost
- 12:33like everything is a blur or like riding through mist.
- 12:41And I want you to imagine that dizzy, blurry sensation.
- 12:48It's enough to move, but not enough to feel confident riding
- 12:54that bike. And as you begin to ride slowly
- 12:59at first, notice how difficult it is to judge how fast you're
- 13:06going, how much effort you're using, and even whether the
- 13:13terrain or gradient is changing. And when you try the low gear,
- 13:20it feels heavy and draining. And when you try the high gear,
- 13:28it feels exhilarating briefly, but then unstable.
- 13:35And even the middle gear feels like it's not quite right, like
- 13:42you're guessing, like there's no fine adjustment.
- 13:48But when you ride this bike, you're just hoping everything's
- 13:54going to be OK. And just imagine riding around
- 14:00hills and around that terrain near the lakes, and if the path
- 14:08or Rd. subtly changes. A small incline, a change in
- 14:15surface, a shift in wind. You feel unstable and sometimes
- 14:24unsafe because this bike doesn't tell you when you're approaching
- 14:36a limit. You only figure that out after
- 14:41you've already crossed it and connect with that feeling of
- 14:46frustration because you used to know your limits.
- 14:50You used to feel the edge and adjust before crossing it.
- 14:59But what if on this bike you only find out all of that later
- 15:06the next day, in your mood, your energy and your body?
- 15:12And imagine riding that bike with blurry vision where nothing
- 15:16quite works. Well, you can imagine that
- 15:20riding like this requires constant vigilance, always being
- 15:27cautious, assuming potholes and slippery surfaces even if there
- 15:33are none. And that would be mentally
- 15:36draining and physically exhausting.
- 15:43But as you continue riding this bike, notice that you're not
- 15:48being reckless. You're being cautious.
- 15:54But caution without accurate feedback can feel like anxiety
- 16:01and worry. Because without those clear
- 16:05signals, every choice can feel like a risk.
- 16:13And the nervous system doesn't like uncertainty, so it
- 16:18tightens, it monitors, it worries.
- 16:23And I want you to get a feeling that you've not lost discipline
- 16:28or intuition. What's changed is the interface.
- 16:38If you have a powerful computer but someone cracks the screen,
- 16:45the computer is still powerful, but now you have to figure out
- 16:52all the bits that are missing. And I want you to feel that
- 16:58riding this bike feels like you have to make up for the
- 17:03deficiencies in the bike, that the interface between you and
- 17:11your body has changed, but no one showed you the new controls.
- 17:18Imagine returning back to where you were, feel your feet on the
- 17:23ground, and for a moment just stand there looking at this
- 17:29bike. Not angry, not blaming it, just
- 17:35recognizing that it's no longer the right tool for the terrain
- 17:42that you're on now. I want you to notice that all
- 17:47along there was that other bike, and it looks familiar, perhaps
- 17:53like a bike you used to own. But this is modern, this, this
- 18:04is sturdy. And as you walk over to the new
- 18:08bike, you can lift it up. It feels strong and sturdy, but
- 18:13light. This bike is not reckless, it
- 18:20just has lots of resources and capabilities that the other bike
- 18:24didn't. This bike has an on board
- 18:30computer with accurate feedback. Consider this bike intelligence.
- 18:43See how many gears there are on the back wheel, 9 different
- 18:50options and three on the pedals. There are 27 different
- 18:55combinations of all the torque that you can get from this bike.
- 19:04If you wanted to go up a high gradient, you could just adjust
- 19:07quickly and your energy would make that easy.
- 19:12And if you were going on level terrain or down a hill, you
- 19:18could choose that low gear and that would just be more
- 19:20efficient. Feel that with this bike choice
- 19:26exists again, no longer push or stop and not boom or crash, but
- 19:36calibration. The brakes respond as you would
- 19:43want them to. You push hard on the brakes, you
- 19:46stop instantly. You gently squeeze the brakes,
- 19:53you slow down gradually, but every everything is smooth but
- 20:00the pressure equals proportion. I feel like those blurry glasses
- 20:07are no more. Feel that you've got perfect
- 20:11vision. Accurate vision, you can see
- 20:17texture gradients, changes, can even assess the wind based on
- 20:24how trees are blowing. And this bike doesn't wait for
- 20:30danger, it communicates early. And riding this bike doesn't
- 20:39feel like danger. It feels like fun and freedom.
- 20:44And as you begin riding this new bike, the body understands
- 20:50something that those 27 different combinations of gears
- 20:55aren't about speed, they're about state.
- 21:01And some combination support rest, repair and that
- 21:07parasympathetic safety, and others allow focus, engagement
- 21:15and gentle sympathetic activation.
- 21:20The gear is not right or wrong, it's just useful depending on
- 21:27the context. And I want you to feel that your
- 21:31nervous system is connecting with all of these functions in
- 21:36this bike and activating the similar neural pathways that
- 21:42exist in your brain, allowing the bike and your brain to say a
- 21:51little less, a little more, stay here, move forward instead of
- 22:01only knowing when it's already too late.
- 22:08And imagine as you're riding difficult terrains around those
- 22:13mountains, the image of Icarus flying over these huge lakes
- 22:20reappears. And I want you to see that
- 22:29Icarus is not flying blind anymore.
- 22:34Icarus has that perfect location in proportion to the lake and
- 22:44the skies. I want you to get a sense then.
- 22:53What's OK in one terrain doesn't make sense in another.
- 23:00You've had times when you've gone really fast on your bike.
- 23:07You wouldn't go that same speed if the roads were icy and you've
- 23:16had times when you've felt comfortable climbing a high
- 23:22gradient, but you wouldn't do the same thing if the surface
- 23:29was wet mud instead of the tarmac of roads.
- 23:38I want you to feel that the on board computer is also giving
- 23:44you information, speed, how much the wheels are turning, even
- 23:58your energy levels. You can see it all and feel like
- 24:02all of these resources are activating within you.
- 24:08And I want you to feel that sustainability lives between
- 24:14excitement and collapse. And I want you to feel that
- 24:19before it was difficult to read where those edges were, but feel
- 24:26that your brain is relearning, recalibrating exactly where
- 24:35those boundaries and limitations are so you can intuitively
- 24:41change what you do depending on all the variables.
- 24:48Feel that integration happening because you haven't become
- 24:52weaker. Your brain has just become more
- 24:57vigilant, more sensitive, more precise, more attuned.
- 25:04What if this new version of you isn't built for forcing?
- 25:09What if it makes more sense to adjust and refine based on
- 25:14feedback? I want you to feel that this new
- 25:19way of thinking, unconsciously, is an upgrade.
- 25:26It feels more like the new bike than the old bike.
- 25:32And I want you to imagine returning that bike, coming back
- 25:37to the lake, lying on that relaxing chair, and just imagine
- 25:46future moments like an activity, a decision, a burst of
- 25:52enthusiasm. And before you overdo it, your
- 25:58body unconsciously signals for you to adjust the gears and you
- 26:07continue not stopping, not crashing, just riding well.
- 26:15And I want you to imagine what it would be like if your brain
- 26:20learns over the next weeks and months what it would feel like
- 26:25to trust again. Everything that happens is a
- 26:29feedback loop. Train those neural pathways to
- 26:38no longer ride blind or blurry, but know what to do and
- 26:45unconsciously switch gears depending on what your body
- 26:51needs in that moment. Imagine yourself a year from
- 26:57now, a year of all of that feedback and refinement.
- 27:03What would that feel like? And see that future version of
- 27:07you, the things that you could do in your future that might
- 27:12feel beyond reach now. But trust that if your intuition
- 27:18is showing you a future of more choices and more capabilities,
- 27:24it's because your unconscious mind believes that that is
- 27:28possible for you. And the more you make that
- 27:34future bright, compelling, desirable, the more you're
- 27:41unconscious will make refinements and adjustments to
- 27:49reawaken old neural pathways, just like turning an old bike
- 27:57into a new one. And as you hold that thought,
- 28:01it's time to return to the present for taking these new
- 28:07thoughts, ideas, and awaken neural pathways with you.
- 28:14So take a deep breath in through the nose and out through the
- 28:18nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 28:21your toes. Connect and calibrate into the
- 28:25here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00.
- 28:30Two, awaken you starting to count 123 waking up 456.
- 28:38More alert. 7-8 Open your eyes. Open your eyes. 910.
- 28:44Wide awake, Wide awake, wide awake.
