- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for

- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:59Speaker 4: that helps you turn your spare time into spare cash
- 1:02Speaker 4: without losing your sanity.
- 1:03Speaker 2: No, that sounds possible.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:05Speaker 2: We're about to find out.
- 1:06Speaker 4: We're about to find out. Maybe you're feeling the pinch
- 1:08Speaker 4: after a holiday season that left your bank account in
- 1:10Speaker 4: recovery mode. Or maybe you've set a big goal this
- 1:13Speaker 4: year to finally build the emergency fund, pay off some debt,
- 1:16Speaker 4: or say for that dream holiday. Whatever your reason you've
- 1:19Speaker 4: probably wondered is a side hustle. The answer the only answer. Well,
- 1:24Speaker 4: you're in luck because today we're diving into exactly how
- 1:27Speaker 4: to find your perfect side hustle. I'm beckside and with
- 1:30Speaker 4: me is the author of the Business Bible, who knows
- 1:33Speaker 4: a thing or two about making your passions pay off?
- 1:36Speaker 4: Viccory Devine.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Wow, Wow? Who is that the author of the business Bible?
- 1:42Speaker 4: She's not here yet?
- 1:43Speaker 2: No, no, no, no? Do you think I should change? Yeah?
- 1:46Speaker 5: I don't want to upset her. She sounds like a
- 1:49Speaker 5: big dog. She's a big dog to pell necklace. I
- 1:53Speaker 5: get asked all the time, Beck, what is the best
- 1:55Speaker 5: side hustle? Like, should I have a side hustle? What's
- 1:58Speaker 5: the best side hustle? How do I make extra money
- 2:00Speaker 5: on the side? And my answer is always the same.
- 2:03Speaker 5: It depends, it depends. It's good, worst, and no, it's
- 2:06Speaker 5: the worst answer because that's not what you want to hear.
- 2:08Speaker 2: But the truth is.
- 2:09Speaker 5: There is no one size fits or response when it
- 2:12Speaker 5: comes to a side hustle. It's not just about making
- 2:15Speaker 5: extra cash. It's actually about something that fits you and
- 2:18Speaker 5: your life and your schedule and your energy. And that's
- 2:21Speaker 5: exactly what you and I are going to unpack today.
- 2:23Speaker 5: So let's figure out how to discover the side hustle
- 2:26Speaker 5: that's right for you. Maybe that's the episode title.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And it's a shame that we even
- 2:32Speaker 4: need a side hustle. But unfortunately Cozy Lives, some people
- 2:36Speaker 4: are kind of needing out of the moment. So V
- 2:39Speaker 4: first I want to ask you why should we even
- 2:41Speaker 4: think about starting a side hustle? Like life is busy, busy, busy.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Enough it is, but like, do you like money?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:48Speaker 4: I like money.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Do you want more money?
- 2:50Speaker 1: No?
- 2:50Speaker 4: I want more money?
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Okay, so that might be why you're thinking about a
- 2:54Speaker 5: side hustle, yeah, because it makes sense. A side hustle
- 2:56Speaker 5: is different to a hobby. A hobby is something that
- 2:58Speaker 5: you're doing just because it's fun and like, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 5: you might sell your stuff, but like you're not doing
- 3:03Speaker 5: it because you're making money.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah, side hustle, the intention.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Is to make some cold, hard cash witch, Like we
- 3:10Speaker 5: want some cash money, and now more than ever, it
- 3:14Speaker 5: is important to look at the bigger picture. You said
- 3:16Speaker 5: before Cozy Lives, I didn't realize we were still using
- 3:19Speaker 5: that acronym. I thought we left it in twenty twenty.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Four, But here we are. It's not about just.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Tightening our belts and cutting costs, Like how many times
- 3:27Speaker 5: can you be told review.
- 3:28Speaker 6: Your subscriptions, babe, negotiate a pay rise, cut back on
- 3:34Speaker 6: your groceries, do a meat free Monday, beck, that'll save
- 3:39Speaker 6: you some money.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, totally, Like I'm done with that. At the
- 3:42Speaker 5: end of the day, we need to start asking how
- 3:46Speaker 5: do I generate some more income to support my life.
- 3:49Speaker 5: A side hustle isn't just I guess a bonus anymore.
- 3:52Speaker 5: For a lot of us, it's actually becoming a very
- 3:54Speaker 5: essential part of staying ahead, reaching our goals and creating
- 3:58Speaker 5: a lifestyle that we do because our incomes for some
- 4:03Speaker 5: of us are not enough. And I won't say that's
- 4:06Speaker 5: okay because it's to me not okay, But like, that's
- 4:10Speaker 5: okay because we can talk about side hustles and find
- 4:12Speaker 5: a way to generate that extra income. Because when my
- 4:15Speaker 5: friend there is a will, there is a way.
- 4:16Speaker 2: You're so motivating, you know, thanks.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Yes, because I don't have any of it myself, so
- 4:22Speaker 5: I have to draw it upleck this whatever works.
- 4:24Speaker 4: There are so many side hustle options out there, which
- 4:27Speaker 4: is actually very good because it kind of like doesn't
- 4:29Speaker 4: matter what you're into, you'll find something. So how do
- 4:31Speaker 4: we like know where to start?
- 4:33Speaker 5: So I would I'm not going to surprise anybody here
- 4:36Speaker 5: because like honestly, with every single one of my podcasts,
- 4:38Speaker 5: it's not about reinventing the wheel. I wish I could say, actually, Beck,
- 4:42Speaker 5: I've discovered this entire concept called side hustles. I invented it,
- 4:46Speaker 5: and I am the genius behind side hustles.
- 4:49Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, this isn't surprising.
- 4:51Speaker 5: But the best place to start is by getting clear
- 4:53Speaker 5: on your goals and like what you want from your
- 4:56Speaker 5: side hustle and what is your why? So you want
- 4:59Speaker 5: to start by asking you self, like why do I
- 5:01Speaker 5: want a side hustle to begin with? Like do I
- 5:04Speaker 5: want one hundred dollars a month? Because like one hundred
- 5:08Speaker 5: dollars a month is a lot easier to drum up
- 5:10Speaker 5: than a couple of grand you know, like you could
- 5:13Speaker 5: We'll get into brainstorming side hustles in a minute. I
- 5:16Speaker 5: won't get ahead of myself, But like, what do I
- 5:18Speaker 5: want to achieve? Like am I exploring a passion and
- 5:22Speaker 5: getting paid? Am I, you know, trying to build a
- 5:25Speaker 5: skill or even start a side hustle so that I
- 5:28Speaker 5: can build a skill, so I can have a business
- 5:29Speaker 5: so I never have to work full time.
- 5:31Speaker 2: How much money do you want to make?
- 5:33Speaker 5: Like, as I said before, making one hundred dollars a
- 5:35Speaker 5: month is a lot easier than making one thousand dollars
- 5:38Speaker 5: a month. But instead of saying, oh, I just want
- 5:40Speaker 5: to earn more money, we need to be a little
- 5:41Speaker 5: bit more specific, like you mentioned before, like, oh, you
- 5:45Speaker 5: could maybe have a holiday. And some people in our
- 5:47Speaker 5: community literally have side hustles so they can afford holidays,
- 5:50Speaker 5: and that is incredible, But what's that holiday going to cost?
- 5:53Speaker 5: We're talking like a year in Europe? Or are we
- 5:56Speaker 5: talking like a five thousand dollars family holiday? And that's
- 6:00Speaker 5: our financial goal? I also want to know is it
- 6:03Speaker 5: short term side hustle? Like are we just doing some
- 6:06Speaker 5: hustle to get out of debt and hit a financial goal?
- 6:09Speaker 5: And like you're just going to take every free hour
- 6:12Speaker 5: that you have and you're going to do uber eats
- 6:13Speaker 5: and you're going to do door dash, and you're going
- 6:15Speaker 5: to do everything in your power to make every single
- 6:18Speaker 5: hour that you have free income generating. Because you're just
- 6:22Speaker 5: like I'm getting out of debt and that is the goal,
- 6:25Speaker 5: or are you wanting to do something more specific, are
- 6:29Speaker 5: you setting up a side hustle that one day will
- 6:32Speaker 5: replace your nine to five.
- 6:33Speaker 4: It's a really good point because those.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Two are different, and I mean you're not going to
- 6:37Speaker 5: start Uber driving and door dash driving if the plan
- 6:41Speaker 5: is to then replace your full time job with your
- 6:44Speaker 5: side hustle, because it's like, well that one, yeah, you're
- 6:46Speaker 5: getting extra cash in the door, but like that's not
- 6:49Speaker 5: building a business for yourself. Yeah, Like we need to
- 6:51Speaker 5: find the right fit. And both of those options are great.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Like your goals are going to play a massive part
- 6:57Speaker 5: in determining the type of side hustle that is right
- 7:00Speaker 5: for you, because it's again it's not one size fits all.
- 7:02Speaker 5: So beck for example, if you're like, oh, I want
- 7:04Speaker 5: to earn fifty bucks extra a week, you might actually
- 7:08Speaker 5: focus on something super low commitment, like maybe you're going
- 7:11Speaker 5: to sell some preloved clothes that you've got already in
- 7:14Speaker 5: your wardrobe on d pop. You might also like offer
- 7:17Speaker 5: some babysitting services. You could maybe like rent out items,
- 7:20Speaker 5: so you could rent out your dresses online if you've
- 7:22Speaker 5: got dresses things that don't require a lot of energy.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Like there was a money diarist I think it was
- 7:28Speaker 5: a couple of years ago now who had a side
- 7:30Speaker 5: hustle of taking everybody on her streets bins out.
- 7:33Speaker 4: That's such a great idea.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and she's like, I'll do it. Five bucks a bin.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Yeah, that all added up and she was getting like
- 7:39Speaker 5: a couple of one hundred bucks each month.
- 7:41Speaker 4: That's, oh my god, a fantastic idea. I'll pay someone
- 7:44Speaker 4: to do that.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Five bucks have been every week, every second week recycling
- 7:48Speaker 5: and general rubbish. That's ten bucks that week. And then
- 7:51Speaker 5: they just pop their money in their letterbox and she'd
- 7:53Speaker 5: go around collect all of the money and.
- 7:54Speaker 4: That's thank you man, a little.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Better of extra cash.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Yeah, seriously, that's not thousands and thousands of dollars no, right,
- 8:02Speaker 5: that's just actually a little bit of a side hustle.
- 8:04Speaker 5: So there's lots of things that you can do, but
- 8:06Speaker 5: we need to find the right fit. But if your
- 8:08Speaker 5: goal is to then go, oh well, be I actually
- 8:11Speaker 5: need five hundred dollars extra a week taking the bins out,
- 8:14Speaker 5: that's not going to work. Like, that's not the side
- 8:16Speaker 5: hustle for you. You're going to need something that's a
- 8:18Speaker 5: little bit more structured and scalable. Maybe you're doing freelance
- 8:22Speaker 5: in an area of expertise, or like you're running an
- 8:25Speaker 5: e commerce store, or you're starting like a high demand service,
- 8:28Speaker 5: or you are doing a heap of voober eats hours.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Like there is something for everybody, but everything isn't for
- 8:35Speaker 5: just you, you know what I mean?
- 8:36Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely. So once we're like clear on our goals, Yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 4: what do you recommend we do next?
- 8:41Speaker 5: Next, we're going to have a look at our lifestyle.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Like we're going to look at our lifestyle and our schedule.
- 8:46Speaker 5: And it's honestly all about getting honest with yourself when
- 8:49Speaker 5: you want to make extra money. Money sounds good, money
- 8:52Speaker 5: is motivating. I love money. I want more of it,
- 8:55Speaker 5: But are you actually going to do it? Like you're
- 8:58Speaker 5: actually going to pull your finger out and do it.
- 8:59Speaker 5: You have to ask yourself a few questions, like when
- 9:01Speaker 5: do I have free time? You might go, oh, of
- 9:03Speaker 5: EAT's in the mornings, or maybe it's on the weekends,
- 9:05Speaker 5: or maybe it's sporadically through the week.
- 9:07Speaker 2: How much energy do you have?
- 9:09Speaker 5: As another one, because like if you said v doing
- 9:11Speaker 5: a side hustle, you want to earn five hundred extra
- 9:13Speaker 5: bucks a week, Like, absolutely, I do. You're gonna have
- 9:16Speaker 5: to get up at four am all of a sudden,
- 9:18Speaker 5: I don't want that five hundred dollars extra witch.
- 9:20Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 9:21Speaker 5: Like we're going to find a reason to not do that.
- 9:24Speaker 5: And the question is am I ready to take on
- 9:27Speaker 5: something productive or would I need something a little bit
- 9:29Speaker 5: more low maintenance or like timing specific? What current commitments
- 9:33Speaker 5: do I have that might clash with a side hustle,
- 9:35Speaker 5: Like if you're going to do babysitting but you already
- 9:38Speaker 5: have kids, that's probably maybe not gonna work if you
- 9:41Speaker 5: need to be home for your kids. But if you
- 9:43Speaker 5: already have kids and you're going to do babysitting, you're
- 9:45Speaker 5: already looking after kids. Maybe you just add them to
- 9:47Speaker 5: the mix, right right, So there's lots of things you
- 9:49Speaker 5: could do. And the other question I want you to
- 9:51Speaker 5: ask yourself is can I actually commit to setting up
- 9:54Speaker 5: a business or should I find some kind of freelance platform?
- 9:57Speaker 5: Should I be going to like a mad Pause to
- 9:59Speaker 5: do pet setting or ask or in uber and like
- 10:02Speaker 5: using their platform to earn some extra income. I'm not
- 10:05Speaker 5: having to run a whole business on my own.
- 10:06Speaker 4: So I guess like, if say, your evenings are packed
- 10:09Speaker 4: with family obligations, a good side hustle that requires like
- 10:13Speaker 4: nighttime availability like tutoring or running events might not work.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah, probably not.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Instead, you could focus on something flexible, like selling digital
- 10:21Speaker 4: products or freelance riding. If you have the skills, when
- 10:25Speaker 4: you know when you're available, whether it's like a couple
- 10:27Speaker 4: of hours on the weekend or early mornings before work,
- 10:30Speaker 4: you can start narrowing it from.
- 10:32Speaker 5: There exactly, because like, not everything is going to fit
- 10:35Speaker 5: into your schedule.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Yeah, And I.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Feel like when people are like, what's the best side hustle,
- 10:39Speaker 5: I'm like, for what, Yes, And now we're talking about it,
- 10:42Speaker 5: you can see why I can't be more specific exactly exactly.
- 10:46Speaker 4: So now that we know or we want to achieve
- 10:48Speaker 4: and how much we can commit, what's next?
- 10:50Speaker 1: All right?
- 10:50Speaker 5: This is the fun bit. This is the bit that
- 10:52Speaker 5: you've probably come here for. What you get to do
- 10:55Speaker 5: is you get to have a look at your skills
- 10:57Speaker 5: and your passions and you get to kind of do
- 10:59Speaker 5: a little bit of order. You get to sit down
- 11:01Speaker 5: and go all right, well, what do I actually bring
- 11:04Speaker 5: to the table, and how can I then turn my
- 11:06Speaker 5: talent into something really profitable.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah, take yourself on a day. You get to know yourself.
- 11:11Speaker 5: One hundred percent. But okay, hold that thought. Okay, because
- 11:15Speaker 5: just for a hot minute.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Just for a hot minute, let's just go for a
- 11:17Speaker 4: little quick break, is it okay?
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, we can go for a break.
- 11:20Speaker 4: After the break, will dive into the exact questions you
- 11:23Speaker 4: need to uncover your hidden talents, and we will reveal
- 11:25Speaker 4: one simple trick that could lead you straight to your
- 11:27Speaker 4: perfect side hustle. Don't go anywhere, We'll be right back.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I'm staying.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Welcome back everyone. Before the break, we talked about assessing
- 11:37Speaker 4: your availability and setting realistic goals. Now it's time to
- 11:40Speaker 4: dig into the fun stuff. Finally, your skills and passions.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, I did a little hook at the
- 11:45Speaker 5: start of last one, and then you cut me off,
- 11:47Speaker 5: so I couldn't say. But this is where you get
- 11:50Speaker 5: to really dig into what you bring to the table
- 11:52Speaker 5: back and how you can turn your talents into something
- 11:54Speaker 5: more profitable.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I mean, even you have a side hustle.
- 11:57Speaker 4: I do have a side hustle.
- 11:58Speaker 5: You turned your talent into a side hustle, You're not Yes,
- 12:02Speaker 5: isn't that good?
- 12:03Speaker 4: Are you're editing eight hours a week and it's like
- 12:05Speaker 4: really good pay and because it's so like that kind
- 12:07Speaker 4: of stuff, But when it's freelance, you can do it whenever, wherever,
- 12:10Speaker 4: and so it doesn't feel like.
- 12:12Speaker 2: It's tacking up to mediator.
- 12:13Speaker 5: You did something that you already had a skill in,
- 12:15Speaker 5: and you were like, I could probably do a little
- 12:17Speaker 5: bit of freelance exactly slay coin.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love it.
- 12:21Speaker 5: But if you hadn't have done a little bit of
- 12:23Speaker 5: an audit on like what you bring to the table,
- 12:25Speaker 5: you would probably be like, oh, well, you know side hustle,
- 12:28Speaker 5: let's be stereotypical. Oh I could do uber eats, I
- 12:30Speaker 5: could do this, Like I've showed that those are the
- 12:32Speaker 5: ones that you know other people are doing. But I'm
- 12:35Speaker 5: assuming it's a bit more fun when it's something that
- 12:38Speaker 5: you're already interested in a little bit you're editing here
- 12:40Speaker 5: and there, like, how good for you. But if you
- 12:44Speaker 5: aren't like Beck and you didn't immediately know what your
- 12:46Speaker 5: talents are, which nice, nice. I want you to grab
- 12:49Speaker 5: a notebook or just open your notes up. Honestly, you're
- 12:52Speaker 5: going to start by listing out three things. What skills
- 12:55Speaker 5: do I have that I already use regularly? So maybe
- 12:58Speaker 5: you do like social media on your own, or like
- 13:01Speaker 5: at work you write newsletters or you know something like that.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Then I want to know what hobbies have you got
- 13:08Speaker 5: that I have the others might value? So like, are
- 13:11Speaker 5: you good at baking? Can you throw epic parties? Are
- 13:14Speaker 5: you good at mending things? So like, are you like
- 13:18Speaker 5: good at sewing and stitching and.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Stuff like that?
- 13:20Speaker 5: Stuff that like is a skill that not everybody always has.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Then I want you to think what do people come
- 13:26Speaker 5: to you for, like for advice or help on? For me,
- 13:30Speaker 5: it's money, So I made a podcast that's my side hustle.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Maybe people are asking you for help, like with resume
- 13:35Speaker 5: writing that could work? Are they always like, beck, I
- 13:38Speaker 5: need your help? Like I'm going for a new job,
- 13:40Speaker 5: Will you help me with my resume? That's a skill
- 13:43Speaker 5: you might not have trained for it, but if people
- 13:44Speaker 5: are trusting you with that, you probably.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Damn good at it.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Yeah, And then I want you to ask have I
- 13:49Speaker 5: solved a problem for myself that I could probably help
- 13:52Speaker 5: others with? So like, did you make an epic budget
- 13:54Speaker 5: for your wedding that.
- 13:55Speaker 2: People might want? To buy. Yeah, totally. Are you still stuck?
- 13:58Speaker 2: He's the hack?
- 13:59Speaker 5: Beck, you said that I would tell people this, ask
- 14:03Speaker 5: your friends and family what they think you should do. Yes,
- 14:07Speaker 5: Like if I was like, Beck, I'm stuck, I need
- 14:10Speaker 5: a side hustle. What do you think I could do?
- 14:12Speaker 5: And you're like, oh, v I'll grab a coffee with
- 14:14Speaker 5: you and we can brainstorm some things. I guarantee that
- 14:16Speaker 5: you've got some side hustles in your brain that I
- 14:18Speaker 5: could do that I'm not seeing because it's like right
- 14:20Speaker 5: in front of my face.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, exactly, Because.
- 14:24Speaker 5: If I sat down with you, I'd be like, oh,
- 14:26Speaker 5: video editing would be great. Maybe if you hadn't thought
- 14:28Speaker 5: of you'd be like, yeah, I didn't realize I could
- 14:29Speaker 5: take my actual main career and do.
- 14:31Speaker 2: A little side hustle.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Totally.
- 14:32Speaker 4: It actually didn't have any idea. Someone else recommended it.
- 14:35Speaker 5: So yes, somebody else is always going to come in
- 14:39Speaker 5: clutch and be like, hey, by the way, did you
- 14:41Speaker 5: know that you could do this? And they probably see
- 14:43Speaker 5: strengths that you're not very good at seeing in yourself
- 14:46Speaker 5: because we are so self critical.
- 14:48Speaker 4: We are because I.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Couldn't do that. I don't run a media agency. I
- 14:52Speaker 5: can't do video editing on the side, Like, who am
- 14:55Speaker 5: I a good video Editor's true? Maybe you think like
- 14:58Speaker 5: knitting's just a hobby, but your friends are like girlfriend,
- 15:01Speaker 5: that is boutique level, like people would commission pieces from you, yes,
- 15:06Speaker 5: boom handmade scarves.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Might be thinking.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Exactly, or maybe you're just like you find it so
- 15:10Speaker 4: satisfying to clean out your bathroom or that is such.
- 15:14Speaker 2: A good side hustle.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Just let people organizing, decluttering to people's pantries. Oh, there
- 15:19Speaker 5: would be nothing more satisfying. Totally.
- 15:21Speaker 4: It was quite and I've always broke, but that was
- 15:22Speaker 4: a period was very broken. I told all my friends
- 15:24Speaker 4: that I would give them a massage fifty dollars an
- 15:26Speaker 4: hour wine on arrival, and no one took the offer.
- 15:29Speaker 4: But I just thought it was a great idea.
- 15:30Speaker 2: So that is a great idea in theory.
- 15:32Speaker 5: But like, I'm not gonna lie for fifty dollars an hour,
- 15:36Speaker 5: probably just gonna go to the massage.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm I'm always with a crack. You don't
- 15:40Speaker 2: want to have a chat, we don't have to have
- 15:41Speaker 2: a chat, and that's tenacious. I like that. I'm glad
- 15:44Speaker 2: you didn't advertise it online because you could have got.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Some Yeah, that's true. Well, anyone listening, I'm still stick
- 15:50Speaker 4: stick video. Maybe I should, Maybe I should. Okay, So
- 15:53Speaker 4: we feed out our goals, our available time, what we're
- 15:56Speaker 4: good at. What do we do next?
- 15:58Speaker 5: The next step is having a look at your opportunities
- 16:01Speaker 5: because we might have some good ideas, but they might
- 16:03Speaker 5: not actually be that good. And this is where you
- 16:05Speaker 5: are going to start exploring specific side hustles and matching
- 16:09Speaker 5: them to like everything that we've talked about so far.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Okay, so how do we figure out which opportunities are
- 16:14Speaker 4: worth pursuing.
- 16:15Speaker 5: So again we're going to ask ourselves the questions that
- 16:17Speaker 5: I asked ourselves before. We're gonna ask does this side
- 16:21Speaker 5: hustle align with, like, my skill and my lifestyle. If
- 16:24Speaker 5: it doesn't fit your availability or like strengths you have,
- 16:27Speaker 5: it's probably not the right option. I eat, I cannot knit,
- 16:30Speaker 5: I will not be doing knitting. If you don't have
- 16:33Speaker 5: a license, maybe uber driving not for you. Does it
- 16:36Speaker 5: actually help you achieve your goals? So, whether the goal
- 16:39Speaker 5: is earning extra money or maybe building a new skill,
- 16:42Speaker 5: or just having some fun and getting out in the community,
- 16:44Speaker 5: like the side hustle needs to support that the next
- 16:47Speaker 5: year is you could be the biggest, baddest scarf maker
- 16:50Speaker 5: in the whole entire world, but you live in Queensland. Yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 5: so like, is there a demand for what you are producing?
- 16:59Speaker 5: I would be doing a little bit of research to see,
- 17:01Speaker 5: you know, other people already doing this product or like
- 17:04Speaker 5: this service. Use platforms, honestly, look it up on TikTok,
- 17:08Speaker 5: look it up on Instagram or Etsy, or read it
- 17:10Speaker 5: and see if there's interest in what you're doing, and
- 17:13Speaker 5: then what's the startup cost? So, like, for example, I
- 17:17Speaker 5: think if you and I sat down and you go,
- 17:20Speaker 5: oh V I think your side hustle, you're really good
- 17:22Speaker 5: at money, maybe you should give like financial advice. That
- 17:26Speaker 5: is a very expensive thing to give, like to have
- 17:29Speaker 5: a financial services license to do the whole thing. That
- 17:31Speaker 5: is actually not that's not good. I need you to
- 17:34Speaker 5: make sure it's something that you can start with and
- 17:36Speaker 5: have the resources to be able to do. Like if
- 17:39Speaker 5: it was a side hustle for me and I didn't
- 17:41Speaker 5: have an income and I didn't have any money to invest,
- 17:43Speaker 5: I could probably sit people down and do their budgets,
- 17:46Speaker 5: but I definitely couldn't give investing advice. So I need
- 17:49Speaker 5: to think about what I could and couldn't do. And
- 17:51Speaker 5: then the other question is like does this excite me?
- 17:55Speaker 5: You're going to be more likely to stick with the
- 17:56Speaker 5: side hustle that you actually enjoy doing because there's nothing
- 17:59Speaker 5: worse back. And you can probably a test to this
- 18:01Speaker 5: getting home from a hard day at the office and
- 18:02Speaker 5: then realizing you have those eight hours a week of video.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Editing that you need to do.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Oh yeah, Like you're like, oh my gosh, I need
- 18:08Speaker 5: to do that too. But like if it's not that
- 18:10Speaker 5: much of a drag, you're like, Okay, well maybe I'll
- 18:13Speaker 5: grab a soda water from the fridge and I'll sit
- 18:15Speaker 5: on the couch and I'll just get this done. Like
- 18:16Speaker 5: it's not too bad. Exactly, if you feel like you
- 18:18Speaker 5: need to bury your head in the sand and you
- 18:20Speaker 5: wish you never did it, that's probably not Oh my god,
- 18:22Speaker 5: when you get that feeling your belly like I would
- 18:24Speaker 5: rather do anything else, exactly, I think that's all very
- 18:28Speaker 5: very good, solid advice. So it's about narrowing down the
- 18:30Speaker 5: options in a way that's practical and realistic. Absolutely, and
- 18:34Speaker 5: then the next step is like kind of testing it.
- 18:36Speaker 5: This is where you take everything that you've worked on
- 18:39Speaker 5: and try it out in the real world, but like
- 18:41Speaker 5: on a small and really low precious scale, not like Beck,
- 18:45Speaker 5: but you're going to offer your services to friends and family,
- 18:48Speaker 5: So no massages with wine on arrival. But if your
- 18:51Speaker 5: side hustle is service space, like tutoring or consulting or freelancing,
- 18:55Speaker 5: start by offering it to people you know, because this
- 18:57Speaker 5: feels safe, and this gives you a safe space to
- 19:00Speaker 5: practice and refine your process. The next is like, maybe
- 19:04Speaker 5: make a small scale batch of products. So if you're
- 19:06Speaker 5: going to sell products, create a small batch to sell
- 19:08Speaker 5: through social media or local markets or like on Etsy,
- 19:11Speaker 5: and then that's going to gauge the demand and you're
- 19:13Speaker 5: going to get some feedback. The other thing I would
- 19:16Speaker 5: say is using gig platforms can be life changing. So
- 19:19Speaker 5: for freelancing or like project based work. So say Beck,
- 19:23Speaker 5: you had identified that you wanted to be a video editor,
- 19:26Speaker 5: right you were like, oh, I could do eight hours
- 19:28Speaker 5: of video editing freelance, but I don't have any clients, right,
- 19:32Speaker 5: Like you've got the connections, so like money win for
- 19:34Speaker 5: you because you were like, okay, cool, well I'll just
- 19:36Speaker 5: put my hand up and I can do these things
- 19:38Speaker 5: because like I've got some people who can connect me
- 19:40Speaker 5: with some people. Not everyone has that, right, but you
- 19:43Speaker 5: could have put an add up on Fiver, or you
- 19:45Speaker 5: could have put an add up on air Tasker or
- 19:48Speaker 5: upwork and said I'm a video editor and I can
- 19:51Speaker 5: do these things, and you know, this is my rates
- 19:53Speaker 5: and this is what I would charge you, and here's
- 19:56Speaker 5: where I work and some you know, examples of what
- 19:58Speaker 5: I've done. And then people could see that ad and
- 20:00Speaker 5: like then go oh, beck, I know it's not eight hours,
- 20:04Speaker 5: but I've got two hours of video editing work a
- 20:06Speaker 5: week for you. Like you can start by picking up
- 20:08Speaker 5: some small things. I think a lot of the time
- 20:10Speaker 5: people go oh v but like I don't have anyone
- 20:13Speaker 5: that has like I don't have any clients. You're going
- 20:17Speaker 5: to have to get clients somehow, and these gig platforms
- 20:20Speaker 5: are literally game changing. I use air Tasker all the time,
- 20:24Speaker 5: not to advertise my services, but like I go on
- 20:27Speaker 5: air Tasker and I'm like, surely there is somebody who
- 20:30Speaker 5: does this, Yes, Like I need help with xyz like
- 20:33Speaker 5: from home organization to gardening to admin stuff. I mean,
- 20:37Speaker 5: this year, what of my strategies beck for growing my
- 20:40Speaker 5: mortgage broking business is letterbox drops. So I have thousands
- 20:45Speaker 5: of these flyers to be like hey, new year, new mortgage, Like,
- 20:50Speaker 5: so I've printed those out. I don't have time to
- 20:52Speaker 5: put them in individual letterboxes, Like that's just not going
- 20:55Speaker 5: to happen. So for me, I have advertised that on
- 20:59Speaker 5: air task and found a group of people who want
- 21:01Speaker 5: to be paid per hour to just literally walk their
- 21:04Speaker 5: dog around and put these letterbox drops into everybody's letterbox.
- 21:09Speaker 5: You don't even have to always have a skill, You
- 21:12Speaker 5: just have to be tenacious to take the work. And
- 21:15Speaker 5: I think that that's the cool thing about twenty twenty five,
- 21:17Speaker 5: Like you can do anything, Like if you want to
- 21:19Speaker 5: earn an income, you can jump on air tasker. If
- 21:22Speaker 5: you've lost your job, you can pick up odd tasks
- 21:25Speaker 5: here and there. If you can't drive and do like
- 21:27Speaker 5: courier stuff on there, don't worry because you know, people
- 21:30Speaker 5: literally like me will advertise, oh I've got a short
- 21:33Speaker 5: job here, and then you can line up the next
- 21:34Speaker 5: one for a few days in advance, Like yeah, it's
- 21:37Speaker 5: really cool, totally. Me and my friends were having a
- 21:40Speaker 5: lovely night one night and we couldn't obviously leave the
- 21:42Speaker 5: house because you know when you've had a couple of drinks,
- 21:45Speaker 5: Like I don't want to drive, absolutely you go on
- 21:47Speaker 5: air task Like on a Friday night, we were asking
- 21:49Speaker 5: for someone to deliver us a vape for like one
- 21:50Speaker 5: hundred dollars one vape.
- 21:52Speaker 4: People will do that.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Did it happen?
- 21:54Speaker 4: It actually did happen.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Okay, oh my god. See that is like Connie and I.
- 21:58Speaker 4: If I was just doing nothing one night and I
- 22:00Speaker 4: saw a group of people who wanted a eight for
- 22:02Speaker 4: one hundred dollars, mate, say less, you better believe I'm
- 22:05Speaker 4: the way there. I'll do it for ninety nine. I'll
- 22:07Speaker 4: undercut the competition exactly. And it's very responsible because they're
- 22:11Speaker 4: not drink driving and you're helping friends out.
- 22:13Speaker 5: I love that, But I think it's also about just
- 22:15Speaker 5: being a little bit creative. Like if you want to
- 22:17Speaker 5: side hustle, I actually love beck the idea that you'd
- 22:21Speaker 5: pick one that doesn't commit you to keaps, like use
- 22:25Speaker 5: a platform like five or air Tasker or upwork, none
- 22:28Speaker 5: of which sponsor me, but if they want to, they
- 22:30Speaker 5: can call me. But small non coincidental tasks that add
- 22:35Speaker 5: income to your back pocket, but when you get home
- 22:37Speaker 5: there's no stress.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's my favor.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Do you leave it at work.
- 22:42Speaker 5: You don't need to set up a whole damn business
- 22:44Speaker 5: tax return and do all of this stuff. All you
- 22:47Speaker 5: need to do is go, oh for one hundred bucks,
- 22:49Speaker 5: I would absolutely do someone's admin or you know, I
- 22:52Speaker 5: saw the other day because I scroll on air Tasker
- 22:54Speaker 5: to see what other people are doing mining someone was
- 22:59Speaker 5: doing fifty bucks for each basket of ironing.
- 23:02Speaker 4: Oh that's actually really good.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Isn't that cool?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Though?
- 23:05Speaker 4: Dining is funny?
- 23:06Speaker 2: You good at ironing? I hate ironing? Beck O, good
- 23:09Speaker 2: at it?
- 23:09Speaker 5: No thank you, no thank you, But that's why people pay.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly exactly. I feel like we've covered so much.
- 23:16Speaker 2: So have covered so much.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Any final advice for someone ready to take the leap
- 23:19Speaker 4: into a side hustle.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I would say, start small, focus on what's going to
- 23:22Speaker 5: work for you and your life, and honestly, don't overthink it.
