Latest / The Daily Sarcast / August 18th, 2026: Drunk Deer, Expensive Beef And Ray's Life
Transcript
- 0:00This episode is brought to you by the fine folks at Restoration Hardware for
- 0:04helping me find an end table that matches my coffee table, which,
- 0:09as you all know, in the gay community is the equivalent of having your second child.
- 0:14And the fact that my end table is from Restoration Hardware means it's like
- 0:18having a second child in a fancy private school.
- 0:22That's right. If you come over and you don't use a coaster, I will consider it a hate crime.
- 0:29Hard pivot. If Bambi overindulges in forced aperitif, it might not be time to
- 0:34drive like you own the road.
- 0:36This somewhat weirdly worded warning is a literal warning from French police,
- 0:42warning drivers to be aware of drunk deer who are running around the French
- 0:47countryside eating fermented fruit and getting drunk.
- 0:50You can see the videos online, which means that the deer in France are having
- 0:54almost as much fun as we're going to have as your special guest hosts during
- 0:58the Daily Sarcast summer residency. Woohoo.
- 1:03Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Sarcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 1:08I'm Ray Farrow. Today is Tuesday, August 18th, 2026.
- 1:13I'm Ray, as I said before. Some of you might remember me as the OG guest when
- 1:18Lindsay had a missing episode, taking over the daily sarcasm because,
- 1:22I don't know, I'm bored this morning.
- 1:24And I think it would be fun to share my hot takes on Luigi Mangione,
- 1:29Jesus Christ. All right, sorry, guys.
- 1:32But yes, in real news, on Friday, Luigi Mangione pled guilty in federal court.
- 1:40To stalking that resulted in the death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
- 1:45Notably, he did not plead guilty to murder.
- 1:48Now his lawyers could argue that because Mangione has already pleaded guilty
- 1:52to killing Thompson, the Constitution's protection against being tried twice
- 1:57for the same crime means New York can't try him for murder,
- 2:01when his state trial begins on September 8th.
- 2:04Is that a legitimate legal argument or an attempt to walk away on a technicality?
- 2:08Folks we're all adults here what yes he's trying to get off a murder from a technicality,
- 2:14Wherever you stand on this politically, two years ago, this murder happened
- 2:19and nobody's insurance rates went down.
- 2:22So maybe let's find a more peaceful way to discuss the state of health care
- 2:26in the United States of America. But again, what do I know?
- 2:29I'm standing on the couch reading news headlines in the New York Times in my
- 2:32pajamas, filling in for a free podcast.
- 2:35So I don't know, maybe single payer health care.
- 2:41Let's talk about beef and how nobody can afford beef anymore.
- 2:45After absorbing almost two years of surging beef costs, Americans are finally
- 2:50showing signs that they've reached their limit.
- 2:53Beef consumption has dropped in the country while people are eating more chicken,
- 2:57which I guess is good for our heart health collectively. But beef is also delicious.
- 3:03So, you know, just keep an eye on that if you're not consuming much beef.
- 3:09In adorable news jenny lu a six-year-old pug found abandoned in a box in south
- 3:15korea was crowned world's ugliest dog on friday at,
- 3:19the sonoma county fair in her fourth attempt at the title the floppy tongue
- 3:24champion takes some five thousand dollars on a trip to new york,
- 3:27to be on the today show later today hell yeah first off four attempts to be crowned world this dog.
- 3:35Good for her. You never give up on your dreams.
- 3:38It's never no. It's just not yet. Second, Google this cute dog, Ginny Liu.
- 3:44This tongue is so precious. She deserves the title and then some.
- 3:49This is the most adorable dog I've ever seen, and I cannot wait to see her on
- 3:52the Today Show in a few hours.
- 3:55In New York City news, congestion pricing, it turns out, has little effect on
- 4:00air quality, study fines, which means that all the cars that are avoiding the
- 4:05city haven't caused any more pollution than cars usually would.
- 4:10In the other boroughs, which, cool, we're not going to die from cars.
- 4:14Thanks, New York Times. That's some real, how much money do we spend on these
- 4:18studies? Like, come on, guys.
- 4:21Ray life update. Okay, guys, I do have a coffee table and an end table now.
- 4:27So I am officially an adult.
- 4:30This is what life is in your 40s. I have a confession, though.
- 4:33I don't know why they call the coffee table the coffee table.
- 4:38Who keeps who keeps their coffee on the coffee? You got to bend over every time
- 4:42I want to take a sip of coffee. That's ridiculous.
- 4:45I keep my coffee on the end table. You should call the end table the coffee table.
- 4:49And the coffee table in your 40s, your coffee table is actually your giant expensive
- 4:54book table because that's the table where I keep giant expensive books,
- 4:59giant expensive books about architecture, giant expensive books I've never opened
- 5:04because I don't care about architecture.
- 5:09The only thing I'm trying to build is a facade of being an adult that has their life together.
- 5:17So people, when they come over to my house are more inclined to use coasters,
- 5:21which is all we really want in the world. That's why we march.
- 5:26All right. Tuesday is Lindsay lessons, a lesson by Ray.
- 5:30Okay. Some of you know, I used to be a wine sommelier a million years ago.
- 5:34And people are like, Ray, do you have a passion for wine? And I'm like,
- 5:36no, I just have a passion for being condescending to rich people.
- 5:39But there is like one little hack a lot of people want to know when your wine's not cold enough
- 5:44if you just like put a bunch of grapes in your freezer and then you can just
- 5:47drop grapes in your wine whenever and when they thaw it it'll chill your wine
- 5:51but it won't water your wine down or affect the taste all that much so
- 5:55on a hot day if you have a pinot grigio that's a little too warm just pull some uh,
- 5:59some some grapes some concord grapes out of the freezer and uh go to town and
- 6:04it won't ruin the taste of your wine at all.
- 6:06Cooking tip of the day, because nobody's eating beef anymore,
- 6:10I'm going to give you guys a steak recipe.
- 6:12Cooking the best steak in the world is easier than boiling pasta.
- 6:18You get a cast iron skillet and keep it in your oven and then preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
- 6:26And while your oven's preheating, dry the steak out as much as possible.
- 6:30Get your steak from a good butcher, get a prime cut of steak,
- 6:33make this a treat, dry your steak off of the paper towel, then put salt and
- 6:37pepper on each side. That's all you need, salt and pepper and a drizzle of olive oil.
- 6:42And then you're going to throw the steak on that really hot cast iron skillet
- 6:46and you're going to get a sizzle and you're going to throw it in the oven for
- 6:48two minutes and then get a disc of butter ready.
- 6:52Flip the steak, put the disc of butter and maybe some garlic on top of the steak,
- 6:57put it back in the oven for two to three to five minutes, depending on how rare
- 7:02or well you want your steak cooked.
- 7:04After that, pull it out, put it on a cutting board and spoon some of the melted
- 7:08butter on top of the steak and let it sit for like 10 minutes and then cut it and it's done.
- 7:13And that was so much easier than anything you've ever cooked before.
- 7:17And this steak could cost like hundreds of dollars and you can impress millions
- 7:22of people and you won't be single anymore, I promise.
- 7:25And I guess like the basic thing is pair it with a good Napa cab and you'll
- 7:28have the best date of your life and you'll be married in a week. I promise.
- 7:33Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish boy looking for a date,
- 7:38email lindsey at the daily sarcastic.com.
- 7:41Thanks for listening to this first episode of the summer residency.
- 7:45It was so cool like being here. I'm doing the laughing Buddha festival.
- 7:49So if you want to follow Ray Ray Pharaoh on Instagram and then see me tell stupid
- 7:54jokes, I'd love to have you. And if you don't, you get your money back for this
- 7:59free podcast. I promise.
- 8:01Have a great day, guys. Lindsay, thank you so much for letting me do this.
- 8:03This was so fun. Love you guys. Bye.
