- Alex: Welcome to another edition of the Unsexy Podcast, where we talk about the unsexy side of everything. Episode seventeen, check-in sixteen of unsexy coaching with Aaron. Kicking it over to Aaron. Aaron: Hello. all right. So where are we? What was your weight? Alex: One sixty five point eight. I don't know why I yelled at answers now. Aaron: Well, I'm glad you don't actually yell up, that would be scary. It'd hurt my ears. how many workouts did you get done? Alex: I want everyone to know. Six. Six of seven. Aaron: Alcohol consumption. Alex: one of seven. By getting less. Aaron: One day more Yeah Good Alex: Good lord. Aaron: What what kind of what was this like a cocktail? Alex: just some whatchamacallit? Some what are those called? Aaron: Wine. high noons. Alex: The healthiest the healthiest of alcohol. That's probably not even true. White claws, white claws, white claws. Aaron: white claw. Yeah. I mean prob I mean if we're talking about like calorie wise, what are they a hundred? I guess you guys depends if you get the big one or the little one. yeah, a hundred. Alex: A hundred. A hundred. And then cocktail like if you eat a cocktail you have the sugar in it. Like that's a it's Aaron: Yes. Alex: like my my favorite drink is an old fashioned. I'm just like it's it's it's like f thirty gram like not thirty grams, it's probably like twenty grams of sugar in this. Aaron: Is it really? because of the simple syrup? gotcha. Gotcha gotcha. Yeah, I don't I totally forget about the simple syrup. What is the what are the average steps? Average steps. Alex: sixteen thousand. Aaron: all right. Now let's get back to what we were at before. I've just do so much scrolling down so so far. wins and or achievements. Alex: wins two. I think I have what I want my next thing to be. And it's kind of funny because we were talking about the one episode will come out way after this one comes out. But thinking of like what my next thing is after like the Hawaii thing, I wanna be able to mow my lawn shirtless. Just once. I'm just gonna do it one time. and I'm gonna Aaron: It's Alex: do it in April or May of next year. I'm just like, yeah, I wanna start doing that. and then the other one is I don't know what it my back is just It's gonna be killer. Like Aaron: Poppin' Alex: I don't know why like my back is just growing so much more than I feel like all of my other muscles are growing, but it's just doing it's looking great. It's looking great. So like these are starting to these are starting to rise. Not not that significantly. Aaron: is I I kind of wondered that Yes. Do you think it's our genetics? Do you think we have good like do we think we have like back good back genetics? We have great calf genetics. Alex: I have no idea. I always this is gonna sound mean. I always attributed the calf genetics to like carrying around like 'cause I don't feel like I have good calves, but I also have never carried around extra weight in my life. So I always wondered or were your calves good like in high school, I guess would be the question. Okay. Aaron: I think you Yeah. yeah. My calves have always been just elite, elite tier calves. Alex: Maybe they Or maybe I'm just too hard on my calves. I don't know. Aaron: They've always been they've always been humongous. My caps have always been huge. Alex: I always thought we were like tricep people, but I think that was because we never had biceps. And so he's just like, I don't know. Aaron: Yeah. I guess be that. Back is Alex: I don't know. Aaron: now I could put back is poppin' go. that was the thing that was making me laugh. So I think of something else. tr yeah can we see poopin' the every time. Big Alex: Poopin'. Traps. Yeah. Aaron: back is poopin'. Yeah, I don't know what that is. I don't know. Whatever. I'm just glad. Good. Something. Yeah, I'll exactly. Alex: I'm taking I'm happy. I'm not mad about it. Aaron: I'm not gonna besmirch having having good some sort of good genetics with that. Alex: Ooh. And I've maxed that was the other man, did we do this last week though? I maxed out the first my first no, I think I did on the last one. I maxed out my first exercise. Aaron: Did you? Which one was that? Alex: Romanian deadlifts. I am at the maximum Aaron: that's Alex: amount of weight, but then somebody told me, they're like, You can just start doing it with a bar. Like you don't have to do it with dumbbells. I was like, All right, so not maxed out. Aaron: yeah, you can do a barbell, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you could do barbells. I I They're probably just as safe. I find dumbbells to be safer. I guess you could use like the Smith machine. I know you can like Smith machine RDLs. it's probably fine. What the hell? just like wrote F a bajillion times for some reason. Alex: Mike Mike loves that I he's like, What are doing with those hundred pounders? I'm like, just Romanian deadlifts. Like, Aaron: He's like, well, goll golly golly. He's like, do you have you have a registration for those guns? Alex: But this, thankfully, I don't have any weirdos. The the the the only weirdos at our gym, like like now that I've been there for like a long time, just like stop talking. 70-year-old man, stop talking to the women. Stop. Just stop doing it. Stop doing it, dude. And like it was like, Aaron: no, that that will never stop. Never stop. Alex: let me help you with like literally this chick who's really strong. Like, I think she probably does competitions if I were like a betting man. Maybe not, Aaron: Yes. Alex: but I'm just being Just judging with my eyes. I guess I could ask her. and like he's like, let me help you get that. It was like a bar where you would use normally normally it's used like tricep pull downs and it just Aaron: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Alex: had a bar. It's like, let me help you get that down. I'm like, she can get it down. She can I promise you she can get it down. She's a s she's strong. Aaron: There was an old lady who asked me to get it down one time because she was like I mean she was old and she's probably like five foot tall. But it but she asked me. She asked she asked me. I didn't go and like, yeah, I wouldn't Alex: But that tracks. He's telling this forty year old woman Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Aaron: have I would have not said anything unless I saw her like visibly struggling. But she actually Alex: Unless I was asked, yeah. Yeah. Aaron: came and ruined I was in the middle of my set, asked me, Come on, old lady. Can't do that. Alex: And he was giving advice to a different chick. It's the same dude, like giving like lifting advice. I'm like, okay, like dude, you can flirt. I've watched I've watched you. It's the it's the homeboy, it's the Aaron: Yeah. Is he is he really good at spotting people? Alex: homeboy that's doing like the tricep pulldowns, like like he's like like he's jacket off. Just like other people. Just like, all right, calm down there. Aaron: Yeah. yeah. He's like He's gonna he's gonna be he's gonna be he's gonna be the next president. yeah. That's what he's training for. Alex: Yeah, it's exactly like that. Aaron: yeah, that's that is exactly right. that's what was gonna say is it will never stop. Dude, I that's that's been happening forever. I just remember when Alex: Yeah. Aaron: I used to go to another and there was an old guy who did the exact same thing. He talked to every single like a tra he didn't I'll tell you what, didn't talk to a lot of the frumpy chicks at the gym. He was always talking to the ones, wasn't giving them advice on what they should be doing. Always giving advice to chicks that clearly didn't need advice or want to talk to them. Yeah, I just Alex: Or want to talk to or I guess no one probably wants to talk to you, so Aaron: I like how about you learn from me? nobody wants to talk to you, so don't talk to anybody. That's how I just feel in general. I don't talk to you on because I don't think anyone wants to talk to me, except for Dan. I'll talk to Dan. I like talking to Dan. but yeah, that's that is true. Alex, any struggles andor obstacles? Alex: Honestly, no, not really, not right. Like arms feeling great. So all of like the past like waking up is getting like easier and easier and easier. Aaron: Good. Alex: So Aaron: Do you find falling asleep at like earlier is a lot easier too? Just because your body's completely used to it now? Yeah. Yeah. Alex: Well dude, it's like a bunch of like weird little things were so f for example I usually wake so I go to bed at eight and then I'll wake up around like two or two thirty and like I'll like feel the need to go pee. I'm like, I don't want to get up and like disturb my sleep. And then like I'm just gonna be waking up in two hours anyway. So I'm just gonna try to power through this. So the last couple of nights, I'm just like, nope, I'm just gonna get up, go to the bathroom, boom. I go to the bathroom, get back in bed, I fall right back to sleep, wake up two hours later, which has been better for my sleep. So it's been it's Aaron: Right back to sleep. Yeah. Yes. Alex: been good. Aaron: That has been yeah, that's really good. Alex: Just listen to your body, everybody. Like your body knows your body's waking you up for a reason. It's like please go to the bathroom. Please go to the bathroom. Aaron: Yes. Do you want to piss your pants? You literally had to train yourself to do this. Now you're trying to untrain yourself to do this? yeah, that's funny. The Alex: okay, Aaron: I was gonna ask you, how are you feeling about the I think you and I kinda talk about but this is I think this is offline. How are you feeling about the workouts in general? Like are you fine with how they're all set up? Do you want to refresh anything? as far as the lifts Alex: I honestly Aaron: go. Alex: like zero like I have like zero context of like what other like I didn't know what a I guess I did know what a Romanian deadlift was, but like I would never have chosen to do it, if that makes sense. They'd be like, all right, I'm gonna use the squat mach squat rack or the the p I don't even know what the hell that's called. The seated leg press. Aaron: A yes. Alex: so I I'm more of the whatever is like the best Things for training the muscles. Cause I also don't Aaron: Wanna know? Alex: subscribe to the thing where people are like, you need to change it up to like trick your muscles. I'm like, I don't think you do. Like, I think you just need to, like you always say, time under tension. And that's Aaron: Yes. It Alex: like what I focus on. And so I like that I've gotten because even the Romanian deadlift, I'm like, I need to get better at this. Like, I looked up something today. I was like, I could be doing this like a little bit better. I feel great that I know all of these motions. so. Aaron: And there's like little there's like variations you can do obviously on all of them with like the Romanian deadlifts. I saw this guy, actually the guy that I took a p my coach's coach was I watched a video where he did this, where essentially like so you're standing on like I don't know if you'd have a setup for this, but you're standing on like a jump box and you're at the you know what the the Smith machine is. And so you're standing on like so you're standing on like this box, you put the bar like right here, and then you and then you use it, Alex: A little below your thighs. Aaron: yeah, and then you You so it's just like right there on your thighs, like right I mean a little like upper thigh. And then you just you lean over that and get the stretch in to go up. So you essentially what it does is it allows you by standing up on the on the box, you can do a deeper stretch on your hamstrings and then pull it back up. Alex: Okay. Aaron: I've never done but they looked cool. So I mean it's just th my only point of bringing that up is there's like a million different variations you can do. The other one that I like doing is I think I did a video on this for triceps is when you you get an incline bench, you wheel it over to the cable machine and then you have like the V grip and so you're kind of laying back a little bit of an angle. You have the handle right here and you just pull it and then just pull it here and just go straight down and up, down and up. And like I I love those for my for my triceps. you could use a rope, but the V grip is essentially just like it's it's just like yeah if you like flipped it up, it's just yeah, Alex: Is the V Grip just like the the rope? What's a V gro what's a V grope? it's the I know I know. And it has like little circles on the ends. Aaron: yep. Alex: Yeah, yeah, okay. Aaron: And you just kinda you kind of tuck your your elbows out your side, just keep it all like don't move your shoulders, keep everything like stiff and just down and go all the way up and dude. I love those for my triceps. And in fact, I had a guy come up to me. Did I tell you about this? I had a guy come up to me and asked me how he was supposed to set this up. He's like, Hey, Alex: How'd you do that? Aaron: I know that this was like mo this is like weeks or months later. He just comes up like, Hey, I've seen you do those like seated. tricep things, how do you set those up? And so I was I can all of course you of course you see me do them. but no, it's just like cool. So I went and showed him he's like, and then like a few days later he's like he's like, dude, those are the best. Like thanks. I was like, yeah, they are awesome. Like I didn't make them up. I again I got that exercise from my coach's coach from Eric Jin Jeneki. Jeneki or Janeki. I don't know. Whatever. He's Alex: No one knows. Aaron: a humongous bodybuilder. And so that's where I got that from. But another awesome. Alex: Yeah, maybe I'll t I'll try something like that 'cause like I the only exer like it's I don't dislike it. It's the it's more of like I hate anything where you have to do use two hand like it's not you're using one arm at a time. so I hate the one armed tricep extensions. But Aaron: yes. Tricep extension? I actually it's funny. I love doing those, but I do them like across my chest. So like I'll set it up. I'll have just have it here and just go straight down and back up. I use those as a finisher. Like if those were the those are one the ones too where I I'll I don't think it's it's don't tell Lloyd, it's not even in my routine, but I just add them in there because I love doing probably because it's just nice looking at your triceps when you're doing them. Alex: That's exactly why. Aaron: That's exactly what I do. I wait until Dan's there so he can look at my triceps. Alex: Yeah. Aaron: no, the I like those. But if it yeah, if it's I understand why people don't like those because it's like it seems inefficient, right? You're like, I why why would I do one when I could do two at the same time and it'd be half the half the amount of time. I'm trying to think if there's other exercises that you could but don't know. That's a lot Alex: There's a lot. Like Aaron: there's an infinite amount that you could you could do. But my thing is like, and I've kind of made the I actually I like having one thing and just getting as good as I can at it for as long as I can. now if I got to a point where I was I was plateauing, then maybe I would switch like all right, maybe I'm gonna try going a little bit heavier and slower reps. But I wouldn't like, I'm gonna go like four to five reps. I'd be like, I'm gonna go heavier and try and just like try to get to eight. And that's like once I can get eight, then I'll move up on the weight. Or I don't know. That I would I would rather do. I would rather change that than the actual exercise. Cause my other thing too is I've like my my joints and everything have gotten strong with those types of movement, those exact movements. And if I just switch to something else, like am I gonna fuck the I don't know. Is that why my my fucking knee hurts now and then my my shoulders kinda messed up? I I don't know if that's what it's from, but the I don't know. I just I Alex: And having like nothing hurt right now is like I was like, I wanna keep doing the stuff that has led to nothing hurting right now. Aaron: Exactly. Exactly. And I think, dude, I honestly think that I think that has something to do with it where you you've just strengthened that that very particular motion like a path, that that motion path or whatever the hell you want to call that. I can't think of what the actual word, but doesn't matter. and so those those ligaments and those tendons and everything have been strengthened with like over, you know, what do we do, seventeen weeks, eighteen weeks of doing the same path? And progressively overloading those, I don't know. I dude, maybe there's something did we just figure something out? Is that why all of a sudden my my shoulder hurts and my and my knee and my knee? Alex: shoulder doesn't hurt. c you're sho you're s because you started doing new exercises. That Aaron: They're doing like new extra and the same with my my like my knee. I think it's like my knee. I already looked it up. I mean by looked it up, I mean I went to my Dr. Chat GPT and it's right. Like like there's just it's a like a tendon or s something that like connects my hamstring to whatever it's like next to my knee and it does not feel great. And it's I just started doing a new movement recently, and it never hurt until that new movement. And now I'm just like, God damn it. So yeah. So that's again, Alex, this is Alex: Yeah, Aaron: This is why I don't change your shit. This does this does this doing great? Alex: I don't want that. And like it would be different. I think it would be different if I wasn't s like 'cause like I was disappointed with the DEXA scan and like as I've come to like terms with that, I'm just like, dude, like I I was thinking about my friend Dan, not Aaron's Dan, my Dan. because someone was just like, Yeah, you know, like Dan looks like so good. I'm just like Yeah, he's been doing it consistently, you know, off and on here, but consistently for fifteen years. And so Aaron: Yes. yeah, yes. Alex: and so that that's been like another motivation of mine. I'm just like, just imagine what it's gonna look like once you've just done this consistently for a year, which you've never done before. I I always Aaron: Yeah. Well I Alex: look back, the the best I looked, the best I looked was right after my mission, th four months of like muscle training. Like with my butt with my friends. Like we would just go to Gold's gym for like two and a half hours every single day after school, college. Aaron: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Alex: and I looked phenomenal. And that was because I was coming from a hundred and twenty pounds and I was just putting muscle on. Aaron: Yes. Well, and it's also I saw this this reel that somebody did where it's essentially like you eventually w will bec if you're staying at the gym long enough, you'll eventually become that old guy that people look at like, That's who I wanna look like when I'm that kinda like Juan, what Juan said. He's like at this seven year old dude who's like I saw him was like, That's exactly what I want to look like when I'm seventy years old. And so that's kind of I guess another motivating thing, like that you can be the the old head at the at the gym that's jacked and people wanna be like that. I don't know. That's Alex: Yeah, it all just comes down we have Aaron: Whatever your why could be. Alex: we always talk about comes down to like what your goals are and my goals are to live a fruitful life for as long as possible and and look good throughout it. Aaron: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And then still enjoy and like I said, yeah, fruitful. You can still enjoy enjoy enjoy life while you're doing it. yeah, I totally agree. Alex: I don't even know how we got on that. we got on that because I'm like and I like I like I I'm seeing the changes in my body, so it's not like I've got to a point where like I look exactly the same as I have for like the last month, so I need to do some other exercise. Like Aaron: Right. Yes. Alex: and I know with that it's just like you probably need to start increasing your weight somewhere is probably what that is more about. Aaron: Yeah. Yeah. And that's I mean, that's why with every exercise you can increase I mean, you'll probably get to a point where you have to go to a different gym that has heavier weights. but I don't think that will be for a Alex: while. Aaron: while, especially with a lot of those things. If you have a hundred town dumbbells, you could do a lot of shit with that. So yeah, you should be good. Alex: Awesome. Well everyone, thanks for listening. We'll catch up with you next week. Go be unsexy.
