- 1:10Speaker 4: on the Money community Today is just greed. She's going
- 1:13Speaker 4: to be sharing her favorite money wins of the week
- 1:15Speaker 4: from our group. Miss beck say Ed has some broke
- 1:19Speaker 4: broke tips for you, and we're going to be helping
- 1:21Speaker 4: to answer a juicy money dilemma, which this week is
- 1:23Speaker 4: all about work opportunities for someone who is disabled and
- 1:27Speaker 4: has chronic illness. We're also then unpacking something that you
- 1:30Speaker 4: slid into our DMS about which this week we're talking about.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Family, gift giving and money.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Which is a little bit elusive, but I promise it's
- 1:38Speaker 4: worth the way before we get there, my friends, how.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Have your weeks been? You go first? Yes, so you
- 1:43Speaker 2: say this every time? Well, I'm just like, I've got
- 1:46Speaker 2: to think about it.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I didn't see this coming in that she's on the
- 1:49Speaker 4: Money Friday episode.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Can't believe the asked me how I was.
- 1:52Speaker 5: I feel like it's the equivalent of your holding the
- 1:54Speaker 5: door open for me A really yeah?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Jesse three? How was your week to report? I have
- 2:00Speaker 2: no disasters to share.
- 2:02Speaker 5: What it was the throwing the salt over the the
- 2:05Speaker 5: three circles, That nothing touch wood has gone wrong this week,
- 2:10Speaker 5: and that makes me very happy.
- 2:13Speaker 2: So more could I possibly?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Like?
- 2:14Speaker 5: Literally, nothing exciting has happened to me, but nothing has
- 2:16Speaker 5: gone wrong, and that in itself is exciting.
- 2:19Speaker 2: That's quite impressive. I'm very proud of you, Jessica miss ed.
- 2:23Speaker 2: How was your week being so good?
- 2:26Speaker 6: I know I'm talking about last weekend, but you know
- 2:29Speaker 6: it's still close enough for me to include in my
- 2:31Speaker 6: week really a weekend.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yet, oh that's so true, So like it's fine, what
- 2:36Speaker 2: did I do? I've been seeing heaps of friends going
- 2:39Speaker 2: to the gym.
- 2:40Speaker 6: I got a new tattoo.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I was just with my thigh. It just says the
- 2:45Speaker 2: word tree. It's just a long genie and we'll get
- 2:48Speaker 2: to that way.
- 2:49Speaker 5: Take your hands off when we're off, Okay, I'll put
- 2:52Speaker 5: them back on there.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Fridays it's a matching tatty with my best friend.
- 2:55Speaker 6: I have like a really cute weekend and this week
- 2:58Speaker 6: as well just been sunny and and just just being
- 3:01Speaker 6: so stoked.
- 3:02Speaker 4: You are literally the most social butterfly I know. Like
- 3:05Speaker 4: it's so funny, Jess. The other day, Beck and I
- 3:07Speaker 4: were talking about something and I said, oh, yeah, yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 4: when I get home, like I'll do X y Z.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And was like, oh, I never know what I'm doing
- 3:13Speaker 2: after work.
- 3:14Speaker 7: And I was like wait, what, Like don't you just
- 3:16Speaker 7: go home like like cook dinner, feed pets, couch, stare
- 3:25Speaker 7: at wall for three hours And Beg was like no, no, no,
- 3:28Speaker 7: I've always got something after work, just never know what
- 3:29Speaker 7: it is. And I'm just like that is so rogue,
- 3:32Speaker 7: like to me, I know you wouldn't be able to
- 3:35Speaker 7: do that either, Jess not socializing after a whole day,
- 3:38Speaker 7: Like there's probably an avocado at home that needs using
- 3:41Speaker 7: that night, and like the be like, oh, Jess and
- 3:43Speaker 7: I going out for dinner.
- 3:44Speaker 4: I'll be like, Jesse, you can come over for dinner. Yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 4: we will be using that avocado as the avocado.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It's actually insane. You're a busy little bite.
- 3:51Speaker 6: It's a normal way to live. The way you're living,
- 3:53Speaker 6: and you're on here up with it's a bit crazy.
- 3:56Speaker 6: It's a bit crazy sometimes, But b how was your week?
- 3:59Speaker 2: My week was really chill.
- 4:00Speaker 4: As we know, I feel like I bring it up
- 4:03Speaker 4: all the time, but I feel like I have to
- 4:04Speaker 4: remind people I'm pregnant, and I'm very pregnant now.
- 4:07Speaker 2: So I didn't do much.
- 4:08Speaker 4: But on Sunday, actually I did the Tiny Hearts course,
- 4:12Speaker 4: so it's like a first aid course for babies and kids, huge,
- 4:16Speaker 4: which I was really excited about doing. Full disclosure, that
- 4:19Speaker 4: was a gifted experience from Nicki and Rachel who own
- 4:22Speaker 4: and run Tiny Hearts, and I just it was something
- 4:25Speaker 4: that I wanted to do, irrespective of whether.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It was gifted or not. There was just very very
- 4:29Speaker 2: kind for them.
- 4:30Speaker 4: To say that because they offered it to me when
- 4:32Speaker 4: I was inquiring to pay for it, and I was like, yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 4: of course, but it just.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I don't know, it made terrifyingly parenthood feel a bit
- 4:40Speaker 2: more real.
- 4:41Speaker 4: But also it was just so nice to like go
- 4:43Speaker 4: through everything and feel like all right, well in a crisis,
- 4:46Speaker 4: like I have been trained for this, like I'm all
- 4:49Speaker 4: right with it. But then I also felt like it
- 4:51Speaker 4: was so nice because like my family came over and
- 4:54Speaker 4: I was like, at least we're on the same page,
- 4:56Speaker 4: and like, I'm not a parent yet and there aren't
- 4:58Speaker 4: any other grandchildren in my life side of the family,
- 5:01Speaker 4: so like in my head, I'm like, oh, is this
- 5:03Speaker 4: going to be one of those things where you know,
- 5:04Speaker 4: my mum goes oh but back in our day we xyz,
- 5:06Speaker 4: Like she hasn't done that yet, but like just gives
- 5:09Speaker 4: you a little bit of anxiety. And I was like, well,
- 5:10Speaker 4: at least when it comes to the care of this child,
- 5:12Speaker 4: we're all on the same page, We'll all be doing
- 5:15Speaker 4: the same thing. It just gave me, yeah, a lot
- 5:17Speaker 4: of peace of mind. So that was really nice, and
- 5:18Speaker 4: I feel.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Like ready for the baby to come out now. Not
- 5:22Speaker 2: long ago I did my first day course. Were ready, Jess?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Are we ready? But let's jump into the show.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I am very excited, Miss Jess Ricci. Money wins are
- 5:31Speaker 4: some of my favorite things about the community.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So what have you got this week?
- 5:34Speaker 5: Firstly, I've got one from Emily who said money Win.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I bought it back for nine hundred and fifty dollars
- 5:39Speaker 5: in twenty twenty and I just sold it for a
- 5:41Speaker 5: whopping two thousand, two hundred and fifty.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'm sorry, what?
- 5:44Speaker 8: Wow?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Pretty sure? Do we get more content? No, I'd love
- 5:48Speaker 2: to know. Oh, I need the pervy details.
- 5:51Speaker 4: That is a great asset appreciation wobly like a Berkin
- 5:54Speaker 4: or a Chanel or something.
- 5:55Speaker 2: It'd be a desire to BacT. Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 5:57Speaker 2: It's not like a Cole's green bag, even if it
- 6:00Speaker 2: was limited edition. It's not worth that.
- 6:02Speaker 5: No, I don't think so at all. Next, I've got
- 6:04Speaker 5: a money in from Robin who said I've taken up
- 6:06Speaker 5: cleaning houses locally for Cash's my second job. Jane put
- 6:09Speaker 5: my headphones in and listen to Shees on the Money
- 6:11Speaker 5: podcasts while cleaning. I have the five thousand dollars savings
- 6:14Speaker 5: plan on my fridge to tick off the different amount,
- 6:16Speaker 5: and my goal is to go overseas. It's good exercise,
- 6:19Speaker 5: keeps me easy and focus.
- 6:21Speaker 2: We welcome to the cult.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Love it, well done, Robin. Next, I've got a money
- 6:25Speaker 5: in from Melanie who said Bedthread sent me a king
- 6:28Speaker 5: size fitted linen sheet by mistake in the.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Color I actually was wanting and I wasn't charged. Now
- 6:34Speaker 2: you just have oversized sheets.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Don't You Just always love like a little extra something,
- 6:38Speaker 5: and they've been there and then you reach out and
- 6:40Speaker 5: say hey, I got this, and they go, oh, just
- 6:41Speaker 5: keep it.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I love I love it that it.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Doesn't happen often. Really nice, really nice sheets. Next, I've
- 6:47Speaker 5: got a money in from Emily who said, I'm selling
- 6:49Speaker 5: my kombucha scoobies that made themselves for free and I
- 6:53Speaker 5: don't know why, but I feel like you know how
- 6:54Speaker 5: to make komboch.
- 6:58Speaker 4: A well, I absolutely know that Jess does not make
- 7:00Speaker 4: kombucha because it's Scoby Scoby big.
- 7:05Speaker 5: It is sobby Scooby, like of the scubat Doo variety.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Scuba do do do you mean Scooby Doo? Yes, yeah, okay,
- 7:12Speaker 2: she's canceled. Scuba is his government name. Yeah that is no,
- 7:15Speaker 2: it is Yeah, that's so true. Yeah, yeah, it's birth.
- 7:19Speaker 2: You can tell she doesn't make kombucha, but like maybe
- 7:21Speaker 2: I've given her a crack before. But that is lucrative
- 7:24Speaker 2: because if you get a good.
- 7:26Speaker 6: Mother, Scoby, like, you have good kombucha for a long
- 7:30Speaker 6: time and it's hard to build them.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Maybe like a sour dough starter, right, yeah, the mother.
- 7:35Speaker 2: There you go.
- 7:36Speaker 6: I've accidentally made butcher a number of times.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Of course you don't clean your pots, babe.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Next, I got the money in from Dana, who said
- 7:45Speaker 5: money win. I went into Kmart as we needed to
- 7:47Speaker 5: buy a birthday present, and I had all the Christmas
- 7:50Speaker 5: clothes out on a rack for fifty cents each.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Oh money.
- 7:52Speaker 5: We got both my kids a couple of new Christmas
- 7:54Speaker 5: shirts and a biggest size that they can grow into,
- 7:57Speaker 5: and some gringe pajamas that were originally eighteen bucks but
- 7:59Speaker 5: now iffy cents. Found some men's boxer shorts. They were
- 8:02Speaker 5: discounted to five cents, so I bought two pairs. You
- 8:05Speaker 5: can wear Christmas boxes all year round, Well, my boyfriend.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Does firstive as I love it huge.
- 8:10Speaker 5: I found at Best and Less they have really cute
- 8:13Speaker 5: Christmas baby outfits that are two bucks at the moment.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Oh my god money.
- 8:16Speaker 5: We bought a couple for my friends who are currently
- 8:19Speaker 5: very cute. Lastly, I have a money win from Heidi
- 8:22Speaker 5: who said I remembered some sneaky stuff discounts that I
- 8:25Speaker 5: was eligible for. Next second, sorry the brain a baby,
- 8:33Speaker 5: not me remember some sneaky stuff discounts I was eligible for.
- 8:39Speaker 5: I managed to get fifty percent of travel insurance that
- 8:41Speaker 5: I needed for an end of your trip money win.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Love that I remind us and abuse your friend's staff discounts.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Probably don't abuse it. Abuse gently? Oh gently?
- 8:51Speaker 5: Yeah, like if your friend has a stuff discount and
- 8:53Speaker 5: they are allowed to use it for other people.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Hit the mark, misspecs. I ed, you've got some broke tips?
- 8:58Speaker 4: What are they this week?
- 9:00Speaker 6: Okay, so my first broke tip comes from So I'm
- 9:03Speaker 6: using an Instagram handle for this one. So Crisp Forrest
- 9:06Speaker 6: is sent through an idea for a cheap eat which
- 9:08Speaker 6: actually sounds delicious. So it's porridge two dollars for a
- 9:10Speaker 6: two kilo bag of oats and cocoa. If you have
- 9:13Speaker 6: a financial capacity, you can put it up with some
- 9:15Speaker 6: home brand honey and fresh fruits. So I guess, like,
- 9:17Speaker 6: you know, oats, sorriage, Yeah, Choco porridge. I like to say,
- 9:21Speaker 6: actually get choco porridge sache.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:25Speaker 2: So that's a really good one, and I actually might
- 9:27Speaker 2: be trying that.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I share about my oats relatively regularly on social media.
- 9:33Speaker 4: You clearly don't look at my stories as much as
- 9:35Speaker 4: Jess does, if you feel just being like yeah she does.
- 9:38Speaker 4: My go to is literally oats and brown sugar. Like
- 9:42Speaker 4: I just I'm so basic. Coco that's fancy, too fancy.
- 9:46Speaker 4: We're gonna need some oats and some brown sugar, full stop.
- 9:49Speaker 2: End of story.
- 9:49Speaker 6: Yeah no, that's true actually, but it is like a
- 9:52Speaker 6: you know that's a home brand cocoa.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Like it's not even about being expensive. They're
- 9:56Speaker 4: just fancier than I am.
- 9:58Speaker 2: That's so bad.
- 9:58Speaker 6: It actually really tasty, but I do I won't knock it,
- 10:01Speaker 6: that's for sure.
- 10:02Speaker 2: No, it's delicious.
- 10:03Speaker 6: So the next one comes from Chloe, who was suggested
- 10:05Speaker 6: freezing pesto in ice cube trays because the jar tends
- 10:08Speaker 6: to go off and I I personally can't remember a
- 10:11Speaker 6: single time where I've used a whole jar.
- 10:12Speaker 4: You throw it out at some point, do you reckon
- 10:14Speaker 4: you can freeze tomato paste in the same way.
- 10:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:18Speaker 4: IVE always run out of tomato paste and then I
- 10:20Speaker 4: go to use it and like, I always buy the
- 10:22Speaker 4: bougie one, the squeezy one because I'm lazy.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And then I'm like, ah, so.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Good, Jess, I've got some tomato paste in the cupboard.
- 10:28Speaker 4: And then I like, pull it out, not the cupboard.
- 10:30Speaker 2: The fridge. I keep it in the fridge just so
- 10:33Speaker 2: everyone knows.
- 10:34Speaker 4: And then I see the little bit of mold on
- 10:35Speaker 4: the top, really clear plastic, and I'm like, I do
- 10:38Speaker 4: not have tomato paste.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Oh wow, but maybe if I put it in ice
- 10:43Speaker 2: cube trays freezing yeah, and then easy to use. You
- 10:46Speaker 2: to pop it out, you check it in. I feel
- 10:48Speaker 2: like master Chef too, be like here's something over bad earlier. Yes, yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 2: that's good. So I love that. Thank you, Choe.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Okay, So my one is I actually got this from
- 10:57Speaker 6: my house mate and another friend of mine.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Actually, stop, I stole this tip that was stolen. I
- 11:03Speaker 2: feel like that's very on trend. You'll realize.
- 11:07Speaker 6: You'll soon realize that it is something that I've lived
- 11:09Speaker 6: by my whole life. So I want you to know I've
- 11:10Speaker 6: never been to a hairdresser. Ever, so my housemate was
- 11:16Speaker 6: telling me that she has saved I think around three
- 11:18Speaker 6: thousand dollars in a year because she instead of going
- 11:21Speaker 6: to the hairdresser to get her roots touched up, she
- 11:24Speaker 6: had just bought box dye instead. And so I'm assuming
- 11:27Speaker 6: there's some sort of tonal or some sort of lightning
- 11:31Speaker 6: kind of thing in the box stye that she uses,
- 11:32Speaker 6: and she just wants i think, like a ready orange color.
- 11:36Speaker 6: She gets that easy. So she went to box stye instead.
- 11:38Speaker 6: And my other friend was telling me about how she
- 11:40Speaker 6: got her housemate to cut her a little bowl cut,
- 11:42Speaker 6: which I could cut.
- 11:43Speaker 2: You a bowl cut. I would have a lot of
- 11:45Speaker 2: fun doing that.
- 11:45Speaker 6: Let me know when you're ready totally, and it's it's
- 11:47Speaker 6: in fashion depending on you.
- 11:48Speaker 2: You're on a Cutbeck's hair. Yeah, that'd be fun, friend,
- 11:51Speaker 2: right for a wedding. It was not like just after
- 11:55Speaker 2: he didn't put a bowl on his I did want
- 11:56Speaker 2: a bowl on his hair.
- 11:57Speaker 5: He just asked me to cut his hair and I
- 11:58Speaker 5: said this is a very bad idea, and he so
- 12:00Speaker 5: that's okay. I trust you, and then I accidentally get
- 12:02Speaker 5: him a ball cut.
- 12:03Speaker 2: You shouldn't have trusted No, you shouldn't have.
- 12:04Speaker 5: I told him that I would trust.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Jess as well. I don't know why. She just gives trustworthy.
- 12:11Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And then I'd obviously be like, oh, you messed it up. No,
- 12:14Speaker 2: that's a big mistake. It's definitely not your competence, like
- 12:17Speaker 2: this just must be a once off. And then I'd
- 12:18Speaker 2: probably let her do it again again and again.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I could trim your ends. Maybe your bangs.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Perfect. You get a friend like Jess and she can
- 12:28Speaker 2: become your like in house hairdresser.
- 12:31Speaker 5: That's good.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You can see me out if you would. That's coming soon.
- 12:38Speaker 2: It replaced me when I'm on mad leaves. I think
- 12:40Speaker 2: I'm going to be unhinged. That's a good idea.
- 12:43Speaker 6: That's gonna be hard, though it will be hard. No,
- 12:45Speaker 6: but maybe that'sn't irresponsible to it. But I would recommend
- 12:48Speaker 6: if you can, if you feel confident enough, hair will
- 12:51Speaker 6: grow back.
- 12:52Speaker 2: But you do that your hair, and your hair is
- 12:54Speaker 2: fine and looks good.
- 12:54Speaker 6: Yes, I never I mean your head dresser, and look
- 12:56Speaker 6: at me. That is criving driving, Thank you so much.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Don't tell my hairdresser. She would have a conniption. Sorry,
- 13:03Speaker 2: I don't know if you're listening to this and turn
- 13:05Speaker 2: it off, and that's it from me. I hope you
- 13:08Speaker 2: guys enjoyed that. I did enjoy that.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I'm scared that I'm going to get like a message
- 13:13Speaker 4: from voter being.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Like stop saying use boxed.
- 13:15Speaker 4: I'm really sorry. As I told you, tune out. That
- 13:18Speaker 4: was Beck's tip, not mine, and I will cut from
- 13:21Speaker 4: my hair.
- 13:21Speaker 2: I promise, I promise. Let's go to a really quick
- 13:23Speaker 2: break on the flip side.
- 13:24Speaker 4: We're going to be talking about work opportunities for someone
- 13:27Speaker 4: who's disabled and has chronic illness. And we're also going
- 13:30Speaker 4: to be unpacking something that you slid into our dams.
- 13:32Speaker 2: About which this week is family, gift giving and money.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So don't go anywhere.
- 13:42Speaker 5: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to the Money Dilemma.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got.
- 13:49Speaker 4: A money dilemma you just can't solve that. She's on
- 13:51Speaker 4: the Money Team is here to help.

- 13:56Speaker 9: to answer your most burning money, career and life questions.
- 14:00Speaker 9: To get involved, simply head to our website and leave
- 14:02Speaker 9: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 14:04Speaker 9: yourself on the show.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Now.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Let's take a listen to this weeks money dilemma.
- 14:11Speaker 8: Hell, this comes up quite often in discussion for him,
- 14:16Speaker 8: so I thought i'd ask you. I am disabled, I
- 14:20Speaker 8: have multiple chronic illnesses, and I have so much trouble
- 14:25Speaker 8: get in ahead. I have very little money, huge medical costs,
- 14:29Speaker 8: and I you.
- 14:31Speaker 10: Know, I'm out of pension. So if you earn more
- 14:33Speaker 10: than a few hours per fortnite, it gets cut and
- 14:36Speaker 10: then you're only earning a small amount per hour. I
- 14:39Speaker 10: don't have the energy or the money to start a
- 14:41Speaker 10: risky new business venture, so I can't type, so I
- 14:47Speaker 10: can only type a little bit, so I can't do
- 14:49Speaker 10: things like VA or transcription from home. There has to
- 14:53Speaker 10: be something for people like me.
- 14:55Speaker 2: That's a really tough one.
- 14:56Speaker 4: I feel like it's super tough because she's obviously unable
- 14:59Speaker 4: to do a lot of the things that you know,
- 15:01Speaker 4: the people that we know who are disabled or have
- 15:03Speaker 4: chronic illness do like they will often do like VA
- 15:06Speaker 4: work or like work from home because obviously it's a
- 15:09Speaker 4: little bit more flexible. But she's unable to do that,
- 15:11Speaker 4: which would be honestly so frustrating for her.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Like I'd be rocking a hard place as well.
- 15:18Speaker 6: I think it's a really it's a really really important question,
- 15:21Speaker 6: and I feel like while we might not necessarily have
- 15:25Speaker 6: the exact answer where we I feel like we usually do,
- 15:29Speaker 6: it's a really important thing to not silence someone like
- 15:33Speaker 6: this because we may not have the immediate answer.
- 15:36Speaker 2: For one hundred percent, let's talk about I think this is.
- 15:39Speaker 6: A really, really, really important conversation to be having, and
- 15:42Speaker 6: for there are probably so many people out there that
- 15:44Speaker 6: are struggling in the same way, and you know they
- 15:47Speaker 6: would love to hear about this as well, that at
- 15:49Speaker 6: least they're not alone, you know what I mean.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Yeah, And I've looked into it before, just how the
- 15:53Speaker 4: funding works and what you get knocked for, and it
- 15:56Speaker 4: feels dismal, like it feels like you're a rock and
- 16:00Speaker 4: a hard place, Like you really want to get ahead
- 16:03Speaker 4: and you want something that engages you. Because you're still
- 16:05Speaker 4: a smart, capable human being. You just have some restrictions
- 16:08Speaker 4: on the way that you work. And sometimes you might
- 16:11Speaker 4: be one hundred percent fine to go to work for
- 16:13Speaker 4: an entire day and then you know the next week
- 16:16Speaker 4: you're completely out for the count and like that happens.
- 16:19Speaker 4: But you are smart and you are capable and you
- 16:22Speaker 4: can totally do it and you'd be an asset for anyone,
- 16:24Speaker 4: but you need that level of flexibility, and obviously in
- 16:27Speaker 4: this particular circumstance, she's like, well, I can't do that,
- 16:29Speaker 4: and I can't brainstorm myself any other role that would suit.
- 16:34Speaker 4: So what I'm going to do is I'm going to
- 16:36Speaker 4: put a thread in our Facebook group, and hopefully I
- 16:39Speaker 4: know that we've got a number of people in our
- 16:41Speaker 4: community who are in similar situations. You can like go, oh,
- 16:44Speaker 4: I did this or I did that. But the frustrating
- 16:47Speaker 4: thing I was getting at before was it's just so
- 16:50Speaker 4: annoying how you try to get ahead. You might find
- 16:53Speaker 4: a job that's like, oh, yess like it's all good,
- 16:55Speaker 4: like you can have as much flexibility, just tell us
- 16:57Speaker 4: when you're coming in or not. But that then in
- 17:00Speaker 4: packs your pension payments and it impacts your pension payments
- 17:03Speaker 4: so significantly. But also you're earning next to nothing to
- 17:07Speaker 4: begin with, so it's like being kicked while you're down.
- 17:10Speaker 2: You're like, is this not like better for you guys?
- 17:13Speaker 4: If I'm out earning a bit more cash, Like you
- 17:15Speaker 4: can't make millions in this situation anyway, Like it might
- 17:18Speaker 4: be a couple of hundred bucks and then they're like, oof,
- 17:21Speaker 4: we're gonna cut your payments.
- 17:23Speaker 2: It's a joke. It's so unfair. This literally just came
- 17:26Speaker 2: to me.
- 17:27Speaker 6: But you know, she obviously is very well spokenly, extremely intelligent,
- 17:33Speaker 6: and just like, I don't know, but maybe there's obviously,
- 17:36Speaker 6: like for us, we have a career, Like I know
- 17:38Speaker 6: you have other things on the side, and I do too,
- 17:40Speaker 6: but we kind of have a career in audio, podcasting
- 17:43Speaker 6: things like that. So I'm sure there's someone somewhere that
- 17:46Speaker 6: would be so interested in hearing her story. I don't
- 17:49Speaker 6: I don't really know what that looks like or how
- 17:51Speaker 6: to really get there or what I'm saying, But I mean,
- 17:54Speaker 6: she just sounds so well spoken, and I feel like
- 17:56Speaker 6: if nothing else, she could find a way to maybe
- 17:59Speaker 6: use her voice as a means to.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I don't know, find a career in that. Does it
- 18:04Speaker 2: make sense?
- 18:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I was just like mulling it over, and I thought,
- 18:07Speaker 5: the only other thing, obviously we don't know the realm
- 18:11Speaker 5: of the limitations that you have, but if you can't
- 18:13Speaker 5: use your hands, maybe something around audio, as you were saying,
- 18:17Speaker 5: narration work, voice work, something like that.
- 18:21Speaker 4: Working in a call center or something like if they
- 18:23Speaker 4: had remote jobs where you get to hands the phone
- 18:25Speaker 4: have a chat with people.
- 18:26Speaker 2: You sound friendly, I would want to chat with you. Yeah,
- 18:29Speaker 2: voice acting, voice acting.
- 18:32Speaker 5: And then the other suggestion that I could make, and
- 18:35Speaker 5: I don't know how hopeful and hopeful this would be,
- 18:37Speaker 5: but maybe looking into technological aids. You know, there's so
- 18:40Speaker 5: much that you can do nowadays with AI, with voice
- 18:43Speaker 5: to text, like, there are lots of things I think
- 18:45Speaker 5: that hopefully will start to make it easier and easier
- 18:48Speaker 5: for people with varying levels of abilities to enter workforces
- 18:52Speaker 5: in areas that maybe historically they couldn't. So looking into
- 18:55Speaker 5: what's available, but I think definitely leaning into the community
- 18:59Speaker 5: and maybe pe who have gone through comparable lived experiences.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Do you have a look at that threat in the
- 19:03Speaker 5: Facebook group and hopefully we get some great recommendations there.
- 19:06Speaker 5: But yeah, I'm really sorry, I feel not super qualified
- 19:09Speaker 5: to answer. And that's the best kind of suggestion that
- 19:11Speaker 5: I could give. But just know that you don't have
- 19:13Speaker 5: to have every answer gests. I feel really grateful that
- 19:16Speaker 5: they reached out to us and thought, yeah, these girls
- 19:18Speaker 5: might know the answer.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Like, that's really kind that you did, like, I just
- 19:22Speaker 4: feel very trusted in these situations. But if I were you,
- 19:26Speaker 4: I'd reach out if you've got like a case worker
- 19:28Speaker 4: or someone who manages like your pension, giving them a
- 19:31Speaker 4: buzz and being like, hey, what are people doing to
- 19:34Speaker 4: you know, earn a little bit extra cash and stay
- 19:36Speaker 4: engaged and you know what are they doing?
- 19:39Speaker 2: Have you got options? What does that look like?
- 19:41Speaker 4: Because they might have a lot more personal experience than
- 19:43Speaker 4: obviously we do. But yeah, I think that threat, which
- 19:46Speaker 4: I'll post today in the Facebook group, that could be
- 19:50Speaker 4: really helpful to get some like just tips, some tricks
- 19:53Speaker 4: and inspiration. And even if there isn't you know, a
- 19:56Speaker 4: comment in there that you're like, oh, I definitely can
- 19:57Speaker 4: do that. Look at that little community you've just tapped
- 20:00Speaker 4: into so that you don't feel as alone in this.
- 20:03Speaker 2: It might be a whole hey for.
- 20:04Speaker 4: People being like, girl, we get it, And I know
- 20:07Speaker 4: that always makes me feel better about things too.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. All right, let's move on.
- 20:11Speaker 4: This week, we have another spicy DM which honestly, this
- 20:15Speaker 4: is becoming a very very close to my heart segment
- 20:18Speaker 4: because I love the gossipy, I love the drama. I
- 20:20Speaker 4: don't want to be involved, like I want to hear
- 20:23Speaker 4: about the gossip. I want to hear about the drama,
- 20:25Speaker 4: and then I want to be like nice and walk.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Off like yeah, I just I good night sleep.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I want to have a good night sleep. I
- 20:31Speaker 4: don't want to create drama. I don't need beef with anybody,
- 20:34Speaker 4: but like I'm a heir yours? Okay, all right, here
- 20:36Speaker 4: is the DM that we got this week.
- 20:38Speaker 2: High she's on the money. I have a money dilemma.
- 20:41Speaker 4: A family member offered to buy me present okay, and
- 20:44Speaker 4: suggested something.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I don't really need.
- 20:47Speaker 4: I thanked them, but told them, look, I didn't really
- 20:49Speaker 4: need that, but suggested something of similar value that I
- 20:52Speaker 4: would prefer and use, but also I don't really need it.
- 20:57Speaker 4: The family member then told me to just go and
- 20:59Speaker 4: buy whatever I want and they just reimburse me. I
- 21:01Speaker 4: don't actually have the spare cash to buy that in
- 21:04Speaker 4: my budget right now, so I suggested that they buy
- 21:07Speaker 4: me a gift card instead, and they said no. My
- 21:10Speaker 4: issue is that this person sometimes doesn't pay me back
- 21:13Speaker 4: straight away. Sometimes they wait like two weeks to pay
- 21:17Speaker 4: me back. I'm really grateful that they want to get
- 21:19Speaker 4: me a gift but I don't need this present, and
- 21:22Speaker 4: it would take a significant chunk out.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Of my budget for the week.
- 21:26Speaker 4: I don't know what to do. I'm grateful that they
- 21:28Speaker 4: want to get me a gift, but I also don't
- 21:30Speaker 4: want to pay for it that affects my budget, especially
- 21:33Speaker 4: for something that I really don't need.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Guys, what should I be doing? Such a weird situation. Hey,
- 21:41Speaker 2: I'm going to buy you a present. Can you buy
- 21:42Speaker 2: you the present?
- 21:43Speaker 6: I don't.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I do kind of get it.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Like I've had people in the past who have been like,
- 21:49Speaker 6: you buy it and I will just pay for it
- 21:51Speaker 6: after so that you can get what you want to get,
- 21:54Speaker 6: which I do like the age send you a link. Yeah, exactly.
- 21:59Speaker 6: I think in this situation, if you can't afford to
- 22:03Speaker 6: wait until they pay you back, I wouldn't risk it.
- 22:06Speaker 6: I know it's nice getting a present, but it's also
- 22:08Speaker 6: like it's funny because I advice usually is communication, Just communicate.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Just communicate, but it easier said than done. But I
- 22:16Speaker 2: would say, just communication.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Wow, you're really diverse in these responses over the last
- 22:23Speaker 4: few weeks.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Thank you. I'm very worldly.
- 22:25Speaker 6: But I would, yeah, definitely mention that and if it's
- 22:27Speaker 6: something that you know, maybe they're not even thinking about
- 22:29Speaker 6: that when they're suggesting you buy that yourself and then
- 22:32Speaker 6: I'll pay you back. But if they knew that you
- 22:34Speaker 6: were strapped, then maybe they'd offer to come with you
- 22:37Speaker 6: or I don't know, but yeah, this is a very
- 22:39Speaker 6: interesting lemmark.
- 22:40Speaker 5: Yeah, the refusal to give them a gift card is
- 22:43Speaker 5: what's weird to me. Like, I can understand if they
- 22:45Speaker 5: maybe didn't want to give you the cash or whatever,
- 22:48Speaker 5: but to me, the gift card was kind of like
- 22:50Speaker 5: the middle ground option.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels so awkward.
- 22:53Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 5: The only thing that I can say is maybe they
- 22:55Speaker 5: are also type for cash, in which case.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Why are we buying this present? Well, yeah, why me
- 23:00Speaker 2: buy me this present?
- 23:01Speaker 5: Or I guess for our listener you could say, oh,
- 23:03Speaker 5: like I understand if maybe why don't we go in
- 23:05Speaker 5: a couple of weeks or something like that. The fact
- 23:08Speaker 5: that they don't always pay them back is a point
- 23:10Speaker 5: of concern for me, because what if our listener went
- 23:12Speaker 5: and bought the present and the person never paid them back,
- 23:14Speaker 5: and so they've bought this present that they can't afford,
- 23:17Speaker 5: that they didn't necessarily entirely need on the premise that
- 23:20Speaker 5: this person wanted to give it to them, but then
- 23:22Speaker 5: they don't give them the money.
- 23:23Speaker 2: It just is a bit of it. It's much more complicated
- 23:25Speaker 2: than it needs to be.
- 23:26Speaker 5: I think either you know, as you say, kind of
- 23:29Speaker 5: communicate to the friend and say, oh, like I actually
- 23:30Speaker 5: like can't really do that, you know, not in the
- 23:33Speaker 5: place financially to go out and buy it. Would love
- 23:35Speaker 5: to go out with you and get it together and
- 23:37Speaker 5: make a day of it. And you know, if they
- 23:40Speaker 5: kind of are avoidant, maybe go, oh, if you're not
- 23:43Speaker 5: in the position right now, we can put it on ice.
- 23:45Speaker 5: You don't have to get me a gift, or we
- 23:47Speaker 5: can do it in a few weeks or something like that.
- 23:50Speaker 5: But it just sounds like it's more complicated than it
- 23:53Speaker 5: needs to be to me totally.
- 23:54Speaker 6: Maybe the person already like was gifted that gift that
- 23:59Speaker 6: they suggested because or like maybe they found it on
- 24:02Speaker 6: special or something, because she's like all the whoever already
- 24:05Speaker 6: in was like I found something of similar value, which
- 24:08Speaker 6: I think.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Is very respectful to suggest something in.
- 24:10Speaker 6: The same But maybe initially the person offering the gift
- 24:14Speaker 6: was like, oh, this is so much cheaper than the
- 24:16Speaker 6: r RP, Like they.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Offered to buy recommended retail price. Oh, thank you, But.
- 24:21Speaker 4: They offered to buy a present. They didn't gift you
- 24:23Speaker 4: a present that you didn't need. Yes, in which case
- 24:27Speaker 4: if they already had it.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Like this is just me, But I'm so good at cludo,
- 24:31Speaker 2: so it's not. That's true. That a lot of sense. Okay,
- 24:35Speaker 2: I think one, Oh.
- 24:37Speaker 4: My gosh, thank you so much, Beck, I wish I
- 24:39Speaker 4: could do that. I don't have the cash in my account.
- 24:42Speaker 4: End of story. Like I literally be like I just
- 24:44Speaker 4: don't have the cash in my account for that at
- 24:46Speaker 4: the moment. Like that's all good, Like we can do
- 24:49Speaker 4: it another time, or like let's just put this, you're right,
- 24:52Speaker 4: let's put it on an ice or whatever we want to
- 24:53Speaker 4: talk about. But I just feel so uncomfored I feel
- 24:56Speaker 4: uncomfortable about being given gifts are the best of times,
- 24:59Speaker 4: but then the eye that I have to negotiate getting
- 25:01Speaker 4: the gift, I'd be like I just I would run
- 25:03Speaker 4: away and be like I don't want that.
- 25:05Speaker 2: No, thank you, Beck, Yeah, thank you so much. I
- 25:08Speaker 2: find it, yeah really awkward.
- 25:09Speaker 4: But again, I think your response is perfect. We do
- 25:12Speaker 4: need to communicate and just be like hey, like I mean,
- 25:15Speaker 4: I probably wouldn't bring up the fact that they haven't
- 25:17Speaker 4: paid back things promptly, because you don't need to start
- 25:20Speaker 4: an argument or make them feel bad when they're trying
- 25:22Speaker 4: to do a really nice thing for you. But I'd
- 25:24Speaker 4: literally be like, oh my god, I wish I could
- 25:27Speaker 4: go and get that right now. I'm so excited about it,
- 25:29Speaker 4: but I just don't have the cash in my account.
- 25:31Speaker 4: I've got so much stuff coming up this month. You know,
- 25:33Speaker 4: maybe we can just do it another time, and your
- 25:35Speaker 4: friend is probably going to be like, oh my god, no,
- 25:37Speaker 4: let me sort it out then, and that would make
- 25:39Speaker 4: sense totally the community, and I feel like I do
- 25:42Speaker 4: want their responses now, so we ask them, would you
- 25:45Speaker 4: still want a present if you had to pay for
- 25:47Speaker 4: it yourself and be reimbursed at a later date. Fourteen
- 25:50Speaker 4: percent of you said yeah, of course, I love presents,
- 25:53Speaker 4: but eighty six percent of you said nah, I wouldn't
- 25:56Speaker 4: want to spend my own money.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Yes, at least we're on the same them.
- 26:01Speaker 4: We then asked, do you think this family member is
- 26:03Speaker 4: being inconsiderate telling them to get the present themselves? Eighty
- 26:07Speaker 4: one percent said yeah, definitely, and nineteen percent of you
- 26:11Speaker 4: said no, I prefer this because I can then get
- 26:13Speaker 4: what I want. I agree, but I told you what
- 26:15Speaker 4: I wanted.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. That makes me feel entitled. I hate it.
- 26:21Speaker 4: I hate this whole concept giving issue, Like just don't
- 26:25Speaker 4: get me a present.
- 26:25Speaker 2: It's all good, like high five me or something and
- 26:27Speaker 2: then we can go away.
- 26:29Speaker 4: We also said, have you ever told someone you would
- 26:31Speaker 4: prefer to not receive their gift as you just don't
- 26:33Speaker 4: need it. Seventy two percent said yeah, honesty is always best,
- 26:38Speaker 4: and twenty eight percent of you said no, that sounds ungrateful.
- 26:43Speaker 2: I think it's situational.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I think if someone had said to me, oh, i've
- 26:48Speaker 4: been thinking, I think I want to buy you, you know,
- 26:50Speaker 4: a new pen, and I go, oh, thank you so much.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Actually have six million pens, so don't waste your money.
- 26:56Speaker 4: I wouldn't personally be asking for a different I just
- 27:00Speaker 4: be like, oh my gosh, beck, that's so nice, but
- 27:02Speaker 4: I actually already have that, or I actually don't need
- 27:05Speaker 4: that or something, because like I'm so non confrontational. I
- 27:09Speaker 4: just be like, but if you buy me something and
- 27:12Speaker 4: I don't like it, I'm not going to tell you.
- 27:14Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Yeah, it's just who I am.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Like I know that's not the best money decision. I
- 27:18Speaker 4: don't even care if you gave it to me, I'll
- 27:19Speaker 4: be like, beck, I love pens. Thank you so much.
- 27:23Speaker 4: This is the best because my belief on presence is
- 27:26Speaker 4: that presents are not actually about the item.
- 27:28Speaker 2: They're about the thought and the feeling. And you delivered
- 27:31Speaker 2: that to me.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Right. You gave me the pen, and you felt gratified
- 27:35Speaker 4: that you got me a present that I liked. I
- 27:37Speaker 4: felt thought about and heard, and I felt like you
- 27:40Speaker 4: really cared about me. I'm probably going to regift the pen. Yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 4: because the presence served its purpose. Yes, because ultimately a
- 27:49Speaker 4: present isn't about the item. It's actually about the thought
- 27:53Speaker 4: and the feeling and the exchange of a gift.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Yeah. But to me it sounded like the family member.
- 27:59Speaker 5: It said, Hey, I want to get this thing.
- 28:00Speaker 2: What do you think? In which case I think it's
- 28:02Speaker 2: pretty reasonable to say.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Oh, that's why i'd say no, because you haven't got
- 28:05Speaker 4: it yet. Yeah, so there's no financial implication there. But yes,
- 28:09Speaker 4: if you gave it to me because you're already bored.
- 28:10Speaker 2: It, I love it. It's the best thing I've ever got.
- 28:12Speaker 2: You bought me a ferbie I love furbies.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Yeah, creepy, creepy, but you know what I mean. Anyway,
- 28:19Speaker 4: We then said, all right, if you said yes, so
- 28:22Speaker 4: you told somebody that you'd prefer to not receive their gift.
- 28:26Speaker 2: How did they react?
- 28:28Speaker 4: You guys said, some of my family members respected it.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Others bought me practical gifts that I still didn't need.
- 28:35Speaker 4: They kept persisting, saying no, no, no, you'll love it,
- 28:38Speaker 4: you really need it.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Yes, so awkward.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Someone said they were really defensive at first, however, felt
- 28:45Speaker 4: better after they.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Bought the items I really wanted.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Someone said, if the family member can't be bothered buying it,
- 28:52Speaker 4: they should just.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Transfer them the money so that they can. Yes, good call.
- 28:56Speaker 2: I didn't even think about that.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Like, hey, I told you what I wanted, you can
- 28:59Speaker 4: go get that, and then if you don't want to
- 29:01Speaker 4: go get that, you could just give me the.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Cash to go get that. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 29:06Speaker 5: No reimbursement, Like you just send me the money and
- 29:08Speaker 5: then I'd do it.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Yeah, good call.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Some others said they were really happy that they didn't
- 29:13Speaker 4: need to spend the money.
- 29:15Speaker 2: They thought it would be thoughtful, but when I.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Said don't worry, they were actually ilated they asked for
- 29:20Speaker 4: a link to buy the specific gift that I actually wanted,
- 29:23Speaker 4: so that I knew I was getting something that I loved,
- 29:26Speaker 4: and they felt better about that that way. Someone said
- 29:29Speaker 4: it was my sister and she was kind of expecting it.
- 29:31Speaker 4: I said, I just didn't want her to waste her
- 29:33Speaker 4: money on something I wouldn't use, and she was fine
- 29:35Speaker 4: with it. And then someone else said, they agreed, and
- 29:38Speaker 4: we keep just giving gift cards. So honestly it feels
- 29:41Speaker 4: a bit pointless.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Yeah, like they're going back and forth like.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Hey, beck, it's your birthday, I'll give you a gift card,
- 29:47Speaker 4: and then you give me a gift card.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Like yeah, yeah, I see you a magic out a
- 29:51Speaker 2: little bit.
- 29:51Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 29:51Speaker 4: So then we said, have you got any other thoughts?
- 29:53Speaker 4: Give us your two cents and they said that family, remember,
- 29:57Speaker 4: I feel like is gaslighting them.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Someone else said, that's not the essence of a gift.
- 30:03Speaker 4: The best gifts are thoughtful, unprovoked, and meaningful. Someone said,
- 30:07Speaker 4: I wouldn't say it's ungrateful on their part, but it's
- 30:09Speaker 4: inconsiderate of the other party for sure.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Someone else said, ask her to organize and pay for
- 30:15Speaker 2: a lunch.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Or an experience together, so you get a positive experience
- 30:19Speaker 4: together and you don't even have to talk about the item.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Someone then said, nothing wrong with being conscious of what
- 30:25Speaker 4: you consume, and then someone else, I'll give you two
- 30:28Speaker 4: more beck hold on to your horses, said my kids'
- 30:31Speaker 4: school friends. I will just give a receipt in the
- 30:33Speaker 4: card so that they can swap it if they don't
- 30:35Speaker 4: like it, and we don't even have to.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Talk about it.
- 30:38Speaker 4: And then someone else said, I just think they're being
- 30:41Speaker 4: a titles and I was like, you know what, each
- 30:44Speaker 4: to their own a range of responses.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I feel like it's diverse, it's different.
- 30:48Speaker 4: You're never going to win, and I feel like different
- 30:51Speaker 4: people like have different love languages, and like I'm very
- 30:54Speaker 4: aware of that. I think that if somebody was really
- 30:58Speaker 4: about gift giving and approached me and said, I really
- 31:00Speaker 4: want to get you this Loki, I know how much time,
- 31:03Speaker 4: energy and effort they're like put into that thought. So
- 31:06Speaker 4: I'm probably going to consent to it, even if it's
- 31:08Speaker 4: not right. Should I speak up?
- 31:10Speaker 2: Yeah? Probably? But am I going to? Ye're probably not.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Let's be honest. Let's be honest. That's so fair.
- 31:16Speaker 5: In shocking news back suggestion of communication once again, see expedience.
