- 0:01Oh, God. I got home from my Pathfinder game last
- 0:25night and stopped in at a tap room to see my
- 0:28friend Kindra. hockey was playing on the big
- 0:32tv and i was just like when when did they all
- 0:35have gay sex that's that's what hockey's about
- 0:37right that's what the internet has told me hockey
- 0:39is about i mean i'm pretty sure i'm pretty sure
- 0:41all sports have been a little bit gay forever
- 0:43but they've just claimed that they're not which
- 0:45is really stupid it's like yeah let's just pretend
- 0:48that there have been no gays ever because it's
- 0:51inconvenient for our narrative They touch a lot
- 0:53of butts in sports. Easier and more accessible.
- 0:56I think hockey is one of the few sports where
- 0:58you have the least amount of like sexualizable
- 1:02body parts shown during game. During games. Yes.
- 1:05Yeah. There's a reason why they take their helmets
- 1:07off so they can fight. There's they are not allowed
- 1:10to wear face masks. So, you know, the mouth is
- 1:12always exposed. I did see a guy. I did. It's
- 1:15actually the opposite. They're very allowed to
- 1:17wear face masks. It's just that none of them
- 1:20want to. Is that right? yeah wow that's so dumb
- 1:24they had to actually enforce like the visors
- 1:28and some of them are grandfathered in the last
- 1:30guy to be grandfathered in without a visor like
- 1:34retired recently that's amazing some guys like
- 1:37push it to where it's only like barely covering
- 1:40like halfway down the eyes it's pushed back so
- 1:43far i saw a guy catch a fucking puck to the teeth
- 1:46the other night yeah an 87 miler Yeah, the photos
- 1:51of him because he suited up for the next game.
- 1:54He's wearing a full cage and his nose looks like
- 1:58it was stitched back on completely. Holy shit.
- 2:01Yeah, it's crazy. I feel like there's no chance
- 2:05I would play that sport without protection. Yeah.
- 2:08Yeah, the women are a lot smarter and they either
- 2:12have to wear like full face. Like Plexi or. You
- 2:16could have just ended with the women are a lot
- 2:17smarter in most sentences. Yeah. Most paragraphs
- 2:21could end there. Yeah. I could never figure out
- 2:23how to make a sandwich the way they make a sandwich.
- 2:26Like they just got it where it counts. You know,
- 2:29I tell you. I walked into that one. Those women.
- 2:31You did. You did kind of fall into that trap.
- 2:33I did set them up. Set them up, knock them down.
- 2:36Yeah. Yeah. See. Hey, we get an explanation as
- 2:41to why he talks that way. yeah fucking yeah good
- 2:44on me i fucking called that one i called my shot
- 2:47early uh so welcome back to cage magical and
- 2:50roundabout way meeting nicholas cage i'm sean
- 2:52say and i'm here with my co -host nick yeah and
- 3:00our producer Peter. Nipples. My nipples. Nipples
- 3:06and chon productions. Oh, yeah, chon. I want
- 3:11I OK, I tried to watch a little bit of the show
- 3:13in color this go around and I wanted to look
- 3:19more like Dick Tracy. if it's gonna be in color
- 3:22i want it to be more i want it to be more like
- 3:24over the top a little more i will say yeah i
- 3:27will correct myself uh i did find out i was wrong
- 3:30about not over correcting color uh last time
- 3:32because they a lot of their interior backgrounds
- 3:35were like hot pink and like actually painted
- 3:39for extreme shadow and in the 11th hour they
- 3:43recolorized the entire show ew why yeah huh Because
- 3:49people won't watch Black and White. Oh, yeah.
- 3:53I mean, I don't think we're getting another season
- 3:55of this because this show wound up costing like
- 3:57hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce.
- 4:00Well, hopefully more than hundreds of thousands.
- 4:02Yeah, hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce
- 4:04sounds pretty cheap. Hundreds of millions because
- 4:06they had to recolorize the entire show. Yeah.
- 4:09Well, maybe they'll just do all future stuff
- 4:11in Black and White. Yeah, it seems like they
- 4:12fucked themselves on that, but yeah. I mean,
- 4:15if this is all we get. i think it ends on a great
- 4:17note i agree but we're not there yet no but i
- 4:21do know people who just straight up i mean we
- 4:23talked about this last time will not watch something
- 4:24in black and white yeah it's true and that's
- 4:26too bad because it does look best that way particularly
- 4:30these two episodes which are really the most
- 4:32horror show shit that we get this entire show
- 4:34yeah so up front we're gonna spoil everything
- 4:39uh if you don't know that yet you should you
- 4:42haven't been listening to us we're gonna just
- 4:44run through the plot line for episodes five and
- 4:46six of spider noir and um i mean up off the top
- 4:50if you don't know nick cage plays ben reilly
- 4:52um aka the spider moran morris plays his buddy
- 4:56and photographer friend and reporter robbie robertson
- 4:59his name is joe robbie robertson robertson yeah
- 5:03Lin Jun Lee, John Lee plays. Thank you. I got
- 5:07it on tech. Take number two plays. Why do I want
- 5:11to call her cat power? Cat power would be cool,
- 5:15though. Brendan Gleeson plays the big bad Silvermane.
- 5:19I don't remember who plays Flint Marco, but he's
- 5:21there. He has a sick little mustache, little
- 5:24mustache. Yeah, there's a guy who is Tombstone.
- 5:28And there's also a guy who is Megawatt. Is it
- 5:31OK? So my friend. and i got into this my friend
- 5:34pointed out like he's got scaly like face is
- 5:38he just supposed to be the lizard have we just
- 5:39been dumb no they call him tombstone yeah and
- 5:42you know they shoot him and it doesn't penetrate
- 5:46his study i'm just trying to figure out why he
- 5:49has the like no i think it's just a silly character
- 5:51design yeah so okay so one of the big things
- 5:54that's revealed through this entire two episode
- 5:56arc is that They all are part of this like German
- 6:00World War One experimentation thing, right? You
- 6:03know, the Germans are fucking with crazy shit
- 6:05and using POWs to test it on. They show all these
- 6:10people with like organic creatures being infused.
- 6:14But then the big bads that we have are an electricity
- 6:17guy, a fire guy who dies in episode one, a stone
- 6:21guy and a sand guy. OK, electricity guy could
- 6:24be like an electric eel. Yeah, they do say electric
- 6:26eel. Yeah, I think there was some like a shot
- 6:30with an eel. There was a shot with an eel. And
- 6:32Ben Reilly brings it up at some point, but I
- 6:35think it was just an eel man. The evil scientist,
- 6:37when she's describing, is like, they were, you
- 6:40know, their blood was mixed with animals. Beat.
- 6:44And other things. And minerals. There was a hand
- 6:49-waved line in there somewhere about how like,
- 6:51oh, wait, let's make sure. I just feel like they
- 6:53could have easily gotten in a scorpion or something
- 6:57else that is probably a special effects issue.
- 7:02Could be. I just found it interesting that they
- 7:05picked the non -creature versions. Yeah. I do
- 7:10like the one change to the lore of this where
- 7:15Ben Reilly doesn't get his spider amazing spider
- 7:19powers from being bitten by a radioactive spider,
- 7:21but rather by being bitten by a radioactive man.
- 7:25Yeah, man spider is so good. Man spider is good.
- 7:28I like I mean, it's pretty horrifying to look
- 7:29at. Yeah, the practical effect on that is really
- 7:32good. Yeah, man spider is great. No, I'm not
- 7:36going to do my dumb joke. Peter already heard
- 7:37my dumb joke. Oh, man. So you're actually screening
- 7:41your jokes now? I usually do. Why couldn't this
- 7:44have started happening years ago? Say your joke,
- 7:48Sean. All right. No, no, I fucked it up. Yeah,
- 7:54it can happen. All right, fine, because the people
- 7:56want it. Yeah, we ran a quick poll. So if he
- 8:01was bitten by a radioactive Spider -Man, does
- 8:04that make him Spider -Man Man? yep okay that's
- 8:10what we were all clamoring for yeah we needed
- 8:12that people wanted i guarantee you i guarantee
- 8:17you bill appreciated that i'm sure bill will
- 8:20when when bill listens to this in cyprus or wherever
- 8:23he is right now yeah um okay so yeah the whole
- 8:28thing kind of starts out the the reveal of the
- 8:31background right this world war one experimentation
- 8:33stuff um ben getting bitten by man spider um
- 8:37it starts out because he's explaining his past
- 8:40to cat hardy correct yeah yeah he's in a diner
- 8:43and tells us the whole like war story to cat
- 8:48right free pie free pie yeah in in this a depression
- 8:52in this economy yeah free blueberries all right
- 8:56they just liked interracial couples at that place
- 9:00yeah You know, they were as they did in the 20s,
- 9:0430s, whatever it was. Yeah. Loved mixing. Oh,
- 9:08man. OK, so World War One. Yeah. Yeah. He liberates
- 9:15a town. There's lots of shooting. He found some
- 9:17experiments. He was bit by a man spider. And
- 9:20we get a lot of like good cagery. Fuck. When
- 9:24he is going through his recovery. Yeah. His recovery
- 9:26is so good. All these like poses that he keeps
- 9:29getting himself into. We get a digitally de -aged
- 9:32Nick Cage. That doesn't look terrible. I was
- 9:35going to say the de -aging effect was pretty
- 9:36decent. You know, as far as those go, I thought
- 9:38it looked OK. I don't know what that looked like
- 9:41in color. I only saw it in black and white. Maybe
- 9:42that's probably probably fakier, but. But we
- 9:47also get an explanation for his weird twitching,
- 9:50which is when he got bit like his. brain essentially
- 9:54kind of like rewired itself to be more spider
- 9:57than man so we had to relearn to be a man uh
- 10:01we had to relearn how to walk and like move properly
- 10:04and speak hence why he talks like a caricature
- 10:09of a gum like a gumshoe from the movies because
- 10:13that's how he retaught himself to speak i called
- 10:16it I mean, I'm glad they explained it. It does
- 10:18make sense. I mean, I think it could have been
- 10:20easily just that he's a guy from the 20s, 30s
- 10:23who like talks weird. I mean, they all did in
- 10:26those movies. But yeah, I mean, I like that,
- 10:29you know, it was a relearning how to integrate
- 10:31into society concept. I think that's kind of
- 10:33cool because they could have just easily hand
- 10:35waved that away. One thing that I was curious
- 10:38about, he does a lot of back posing. Do spiders
- 10:40go on their backs a lot? Like, well, when you
- 10:43like smack a spider. and yeah like it gets all
- 10:46curly yeah it's always on its back like those
- 10:49legs don't go the other way no but i mean why
- 10:52was he doing death poses yeah as an alive guy
- 10:56because nicholas cage is a character actor yeah
- 10:59because it's awesome it was awesome i can almost
- 11:03guarantee you not in the script i will say it's
- 11:09it's pretty hard to get um like video recordings
- 11:12of any of these shows because there's all this
- 11:14like drm shit to protect it but i am definitely
- 11:18going to find a way to get footage of him doing
- 11:20those poses because it's fantastic yeah it's
- 11:24some of my favorite body work he's done maybe
- 11:26ever um these two episodes in particular are
- 11:30fucking crushing it for that yeah what else has
- 11:33he really done like great like body and movement
- 11:36stuff we get his sneakiness in uh yeah peggy
- 11:40sue i mean he does some body stuff in um long
- 11:43legs renfield long legs and renfield yeah that
- 11:47might be the most of it i mean he's pretty fucking
- 11:50wild in vampire's kiss but it's less like herky
- 11:53jerky yeah quote unquote spider poses wild at
- 11:57heart yeah a lot of kicking and flipping yeah
- 12:01that was definitely his most like cool closing
- 12:03other than con air but con air he's more just
- 12:06like roundhouse kicking yeah more or physically
- 12:09active yeah oh jean -claude van damme yeah so
- 12:15yeah the the kg motions so good it fits so well
- 12:21in the the story and also just gave us gave us
- 12:25what we wanted yes Like a Spider -Man man joke.
- 12:29It just gave us what we were all asking for.
- 12:32What the people want. I really noticed in this
- 12:38back half of the series, they played to the black
- 12:42and white so much better. I felt there's like,
- 12:45especially when we get into the lab, the like
- 12:48the horse side of things. yeah the scenery really
- 12:52kind of uh gives itself up to it a lot better
- 12:56yeah there's a shot of him being dragged down
- 12:58the stairs and it's just his feet in the rain
- 13:00in the dark and it's really pretty amazing that's
- 13:03in that's in the next episode but yeah yeah um
- 13:05okay so the big reveal from the first or the
- 13:09the jesus christ our second episode about episodes
- 13:13three and four God, this is a horrible way to
- 13:15have to talk about it. It is. I'm going to let
- 13:17you do it. Is that Lonnie Lincoln Tombstone reveals
- 13:19that they have all been seeing Doc Faber. So
- 13:23all signs point to this doctor and they decide
- 13:26to go and do some snooping. Yep. And snoop they
- 13:31do. Yeah, they. Well, so I was reviewing my notes.
- 13:36Yeah. So like Robbie goes in to ask the doc some
- 13:40questions after Robbie gets. His second article
- 13:45published. Mm hmm. He uses his credentials at
- 13:48the Bugle to get in. So I think his second one's
- 13:51been published by this point. Doc Faber has like
- 13:54an older bodyguard slash secretary that's very
- 13:58protective of her. But while they're talking
- 14:00to Robbie, the spider spiders his way very in
- 14:05an old man fashion. Yeah. Into. Into her office
- 14:11to like start snooping. Yeah, so Ben climbs through
- 14:14the window. He doesn't spider in. He doesn't
- 14:17have the mask on or anything. That's true. He
- 14:20just comes in from the roof. He did climb onto
- 14:23the roof to get there, but yes. But he stumbles
- 14:26in through the window. And yeah, when Robbie
- 14:29can't distract the doctor any longer while Nick
- 14:33is or Ben is digging through and finding all
- 14:36of the secret drawers and stuff of that nature,
- 14:39the doctor bursts back in. ben has secreted the
- 14:43uh you that's a gross way he's secreted the files
- 14:49the files out through the window uh he does like
- 14:56a really crazy like uh crazy person thing yeah
- 15:00that little hand motion uh josie and i were talking
- 15:03about the second floor The second floor. Some
- 15:08people online were saying that they suspect it
- 15:10was like an homage to David Lynch's fire walk
- 15:13with me stuff. I saw that, too, actually. And
- 15:16some people kicked it back to like also doing
- 15:18things like that in a. He did that with long
- 15:22legs, with long legs as well. The face covering
- 15:24thing. Yeah. So definitely a thing that Nick
- 15:28does, but it very much could be inspired by some
- 15:32David Lynch. yeah weirdness which you know fair
- 15:35enough doesn't surprise me yeah i would expect
- 15:37that from him to pull something from david lynch's
- 15:40world but her assistant ogden recognizes him
- 15:45because he recognizes him from france from the
- 15:47pow camp yeah which gives us the reveal that
- 15:50he's actually one of the pows that was saved
- 15:54but he got experimented on and his superpower
- 15:56is oldness aging yeah rapidly no one ages like
- 16:01ogden ages i don't think we get that right away
- 16:04there but maybe not no that's at the beginning
- 16:06of the next episode but yeah but uh ben and robbie
- 16:09get away with the files and they're able to look
- 16:13over the all of that back at the the office later
- 16:16so after that it goes into just a return to megawatt
- 16:20who's been broken out of prison at this point
- 16:22okay so megawatt in the first episode that we
- 16:24meet him in episode four i was like he's like
- 16:26so on the nose for this show and i hate him yeah
- 16:29he's so fucking annoying and then in this episode
- 16:31i was like he still is annoying as shit and i
- 16:34love him everything he does is just so annoying
- 16:37it's like 11 just peaking all the time all the
- 16:40time he's always quoting shakespeare he's super
- 16:43like theatrical weak but you know kudos to the
- 16:47writers we get a reason that he wants to be a
- 16:49broadway performer but is instead uh just a subway
- 16:53subway driver right right so he's getting beat
- 16:57up in the in the joint you know yeah making mouthing
- 17:00off the fucking cops as you do he gets beat up
- 17:03quite a bit but then silvermane and his crew
- 17:05show up oh that's right because they've recruited
- 17:07tombstone yeah yeah they've uh flint recruited
- 17:10tombstone flint tombstone show up they uh beat
- 17:13up the cops and take him out to uh go meet silvermane
- 17:18who makes him a deal and then megawatt kills
- 17:21a guard with a kiss and it's weird that's exactly
- 17:26how i wrote it he kissed him to death Yeah, he
- 17:28did. He shocked him while kissing him. One of
- 17:30my notes was one of my notes was about Tombstone
- 17:32and Sandman. I said, oh, Exima man and the bumps
- 17:35back together again. Well, after but speaking
- 17:40of it being weird, your note of it being weird.
- 17:43As soon as that happens, I think it just cuts
- 17:45to Silverman who goes, oh, it's weird. Yeah,
- 17:47he did. I loved his expression. Brendan Gleeson
- 17:50is so good. He's clearly my favorite actor in
- 17:53this other than Nicolas Cage. Sorry. I love that
- 17:55he's doing. an irish accent yeah it's like you
- 18:00could just be irish but no no you gotta amp it
- 18:04up with a little extra irishness yeah oh okay
- 18:07sorry i've got to back up for a second one of
- 18:09my favorite lines of this entire fucking episode
- 18:11is when robbie goes to the hospital to try and
- 18:13like confront the doctor right so he's talking
- 18:16to this shitty racist nurse at the desk oh yeah
- 18:19and she's just ignoring him and ignoring him
- 18:20he shows his credentials and she's like begrudgingly
- 18:23you know this and she's reading all quiet on
- 18:25the western front and he just goes he says paul
- 18:28dies paul dies at the end and walks away yeah
- 18:31probably it's just my favorite character in this
- 18:34entire show in like the third or fourth episode
- 18:36when he goes and talks to the editor at the bugle
- 18:39and he's leaving i was like do i have this open
- 18:41or closed closed and he just walks away with
- 18:42the door open oh my god yeah i love just the
- 18:45kind of snarky dickishness that most people have
- 18:49in this Like almost everybody is a little snarky
- 18:52and a little dickish and it's terrific. It is
- 18:54terrific. The only people who are never that
- 18:57way, I think are like Flint. Flint is just like
- 19:00a good guy who keeps getting like his heart broken
- 19:05and doesn't know what to do. Right. It throws
- 19:09in with the wrong crowd. I do want to say I do
- 19:12enjoy the three core characters of. ben robbie
- 19:18and janet uh because before they go and steal
- 19:21the files ben comes in and like they tell him
- 19:25it's so good like you know they tell him all
- 19:28the stuff they learned in about the doc and lonnie
- 19:30and like you know they have a lead like well
- 19:34what are we waiting for he's like you asshole
- 19:39yeah i love also when he's he's sort of like
- 19:41he makes these leaps of you know intelligence
- 19:44or whatever and they're like whoa well that's
- 19:45why you're the detective that's why your name
- 19:47is on the door and he's like okay so you already
- 19:48knew yeah oh god yeah yeah there's there's good
- 19:55uh good interplay between all the characters
- 19:58yeah i mean i think it really looks like they're
- 20:01fun and comfortable around each other right like
- 20:04janet and robbie seem like actual friends who
- 20:07understand the banter that they would have in
- 20:09this like long -term relationship it feels very
- 20:11real it's cool i mean it's very easy energy and
- 20:15like salty at the same time yeah yeah the characters
- 20:18have history beyond episode one right which is
- 20:21nice yeah oh after uh they break uh megawatt
- 20:26out and everything uh it just goes back to ben
- 20:30showing up at silver mains and then they talk
- 20:32uh some mad shit to each other uh that's right
- 20:36yeah flint comes in and kind of like gets in
- 20:40ben's face and then like he leaves oh and we
- 20:43get another hot dog line yeah we get another
- 20:45hot dog line that's good i love the hot dogs
- 20:47in this i'm still disgusted by the way he eats
- 20:49them some gross maybe it's like how spiders eat
- 20:51a hot maybe spiders eat a hot dog yeah just goes
- 20:56for the gooeyness i was gonna say he eats them
- 20:57like a spider For those of you who haven't watched
- 21:00the show, he like he just wraps him in webbing
- 21:02and then just like sucks it out with a straw.
- 21:05Yeah. Yeah. So he just confronts him about like
- 21:13knowing about him and Kat. And then, yeah, exactly.
- 21:16Ben leaves him with a hot dog at the game is
- 21:19better than a roast beef at the Met or the Ritz.
- 21:22Yeah. Which is great. Think about it. Yeah. It's
- 21:26a good one. You get to live and have fun. Right.
- 21:28Hot dog or roast beef at the Ritz. What kind
- 21:31of life is that? Stuck under the thumb of silver,
- 21:34man. Yep. And that's where they just disappear.
- 21:40Ben goes up, talks to Kat back at her place.
- 21:44They talk about the doctor, and then they're
- 21:47like, oh, we got to run away. Let's go to France.
- 21:50We'll get out of here together. Oh, they're going
- 21:53to go to Santorini. Santorini, yeah. I can't
- 22:00remember what gives Kat the idea to go to the
- 22:08dock. It's Lonnie Tombstone. He goes and talks
- 22:11to her and is like... It's coming up. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:14It's later. Kat's packing. Lonnie shows up and
- 22:17takes her to Flint, who shows that he's a henchman
- 22:21for life. They almost kill Kat by toppling some
- 22:24platforms. Oh, that's right. Lonnie tells her
- 22:26about the doctor then. And that's about how the
- 22:31doctor is trying to find a cure. And the spider
- 22:33could be the key to the cure because he's the
- 22:37only one who hasn't degraded or anything. Yeah.
- 22:40So then Kat disappears and goes and tells the
- 22:42doctor. A lot of rain in these two episodes.
- 22:46Yes. Rain is best. Rain is great. Yeah. It really
- 22:49comes out really well. In the black and white.
- 22:52In the black and white. It's fucking awesome.
- 22:54I mean, best, best shot of the rain. is the opening
- 22:58for episode eight. But I agree. But here in episode
- 23:03five, this is pretty good rain, too. It's good
- 23:05rain. Episode six has good rain, too. We'll get
- 23:08into that in a second. So that's the that's the
- 23:11whole of the episode. Like nothing else happens.
- 23:13She meets the doctor there at the office as the
- 23:15doctor is cleaning up and getting ready to flee
- 23:18and tells her that she knows that Ben Reilly
- 23:21is the spider. Yeah. What did you guys think
- 23:24of the doctor in her performance in general in
- 23:26this episode? I mean, we can talk about it in
- 23:28both. In this episode, it's, you know, menacing,
- 23:31but fairly sedate. We don't get any like really
- 23:34good, like mad scientist vibes till the next
- 23:39episode. Next episode definitely amps it up.
- 23:41I do like the way it sets it all up for that,
- 23:45where it's like she does feel a little unhinged
- 23:47and she does feel like there's some sort of weird
- 23:49complication with Ogden, you know, so. yeah she's
- 23:53very much a goal -oriented business lady yeah
- 23:57and i mean you do get the vibe that she is doing
- 24:00like she does want to help these people yeah
- 24:04she wants to help them because she's trying to
- 24:06help yeah we i mean we learned that we learned
- 24:08why in the next episode but i do think like even
- 24:12when uh robbie's interviewing her i don't get
- 24:15the feeling that she's trying to weaponize the
- 24:18superhumans at all she seems like she's trying
- 24:22to help yeah yeah she she does have good motivations
- 24:27but her execution is a little bit lacking yeah
- 24:30so yeah so then it rolls into episode six um
- 24:34and we've got another good rain shot rain pouring
- 24:38down on this random guy in an alley um which
- 24:42turns out to be ogden the assistant hoggy going
- 24:46to uh Talk to Ben Reilly. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So
- 24:51Ben's just packing up to leave. Gets a little
- 24:54knock on the door. You know, while he's got his
- 24:56spider mask in his hand, he's getting ready to
- 24:59leave the whole life behind. Santorini. Live
- 25:02on Santorini with Kat. Opens the door. It's Ogden.
- 25:06Whoa. He tells his story about being experimented
- 25:10on and how it's just making him old, which is
- 25:12a shitty superpower. And I don't think he says
- 25:15that, but we all know it. We also get the line
- 25:18of him having recognized Ben. Yeah, yeah. He
- 25:23changed his name. War history. Yeah, I like that.
- 25:27I like that they do mention the name change.
- 25:29So I think we can kind of check that off as like
- 25:32he is probably Peter Parker changed his name
- 25:34to avoid all the, you know, people following
- 25:38up on him because he got weird spider powers.
- 25:41Yeah, definitely trying to distance himself from
- 25:43that, which is also stupid because to change
- 25:46your name, you. legally change it with the government
- 25:48it's not like it's a big leap to be I don't know.
- 25:51In the 20s, you could just start calling yourself.
- 25:53You could just call yourself something else.
- 25:54It wouldn't take too much to get like a piece
- 25:56of paper reprinted. That's fair. Forgery wasn't
- 25:59as complicated as it is now. All right. All right.
- 26:02I'll give it to you. No holographic blacklight
- 26:05imagery. So now he's been Riley. No microchips.
- 26:09Come on, Peter. It's the 20s. No 5G in my blood.
- 26:13Hot dog at the game is better than roast beef
- 26:15at the Ritz, you fool. Come on. Hmm. Yeah. oh
- 26:21one of the things that i i just was thinking
- 26:23about visuals in this because this episode is
- 26:25very like stark strong visuals i mean it's like
- 26:27a horror show but all the wavy glass oh yeah
- 26:32in all these old buildings i'm so glad they did
- 26:34that because it's like it feels so true you know
- 26:36you're looking at the the you know editor -in
- 26:39-chief at the bugle and he's all like warped
- 26:41and funny looking because that glass and it's
- 26:43just it's interesting how like glass technology
- 26:46changed and they bothered to do that yeah I mean,
- 26:50it looks way better. It does. It adds so much
- 26:53environmental character to the way everything
- 26:57is shot. Totally. Yeah. Yeah, so what? Ogden
- 27:02tries to convince him to help. He doesn't want
- 27:04to help. And then he's like, I'll just drug you
- 27:06instead. So he slips him with a needle and drags
- 27:10his body out, which is where we get cool boots
- 27:12running downstairs. Boots going down the stairs.
- 27:14Boots in a puddle. Boots in a puddle. This is
- 27:16also where we get the first time that, like,
- 27:19Ben claims that the only reason he was ever the
- 27:21spider was for, you know, the thrill of it, not
- 27:23because he's a. Yeah. Yeah. He tries playing
- 27:27it off. Right. So also, I just have to say, as
- 27:31he's packing all this shit, he has a drawer that's
- 27:34just full of pillowcases. It's so many pillowcases.
- 27:36Did you notice that? It's like, what the fuck?
- 27:38You have a single bed. Yeah. One pillow. Maybe
- 27:42they were all Ruby's favorite pillowcases. Maybe,
- 27:44yeah. Gotta keep your Ruby photo somewhere. That's
- 27:47right. Under all the pillowcases that remind
- 27:48you of her. Yep, so you tuck it back in when
- 27:51you go to leave with Kat. Leave that Ruby photo.
- 27:54Weird, you ding -a -ling. Yeah, I like how he
- 27:57keeps the photo of his dead fiancée at the bottom
- 28:01of a cupboard with his money. Yeah, just hidden.
- 28:05so yeah then you get into the horror show shit
- 28:06of it so they have a secret lab yeah he's dragged
- 28:09down to the lab he's all restrained they like
- 28:11bandage up his hands so he can't web stuff and
- 28:14then they uh cuff him down to the bed and you
- 28:18know pretty good pretty good uh effort put into
- 28:22it and faber explains everything yeah yeah classic
- 28:26villain style i love how many times in my notes
- 28:28i got to just type out so and so explains everything
- 28:32it's like oh perfect you know it's funny let's
- 28:35not skimp on the narrative there would be certain
- 28:37shows that that would really piss me off but
- 28:39for some reason in this one i'm like yeah it
- 28:41just works i don't know like now i'm gonna explain
- 28:44my whole thing it's part of the trope of like
- 28:47early filmmaking as well which i think helps
- 28:49sure and unlike other things i've seen recently
- 28:53it's not just It still feels naturalistic, like
- 28:57people talking to each other rather than just
- 28:58people monologuing at each other, which is all
- 29:01the Mandalorian Grogu was, was just like characters
- 29:05talking about themselves in the general direction
- 29:09of other characters. Mm hmm. so yeah then i mean
- 29:12we get a lot of like weird experimentation on
- 29:15him we get more flashbacks yeah we get that first
- 29:17flashback of him like exploring his hand wound
- 29:21and pulling the web goop out of it like yeah
- 29:24gets all this is where he like does the most
- 29:27of those like little body ticks yeah pulls his
- 29:30webbing out that's great talking to the general
- 29:32or whoever it is yeah the whole time he's just
- 29:34like trying to keep it under control and yeah
- 29:38i thought that costume for the general or whatever
- 29:42was super weird until josie pulled up like a
- 29:45photo because she also thought it was super weird
- 29:47is that what they looked like yeah they just
- 29:49kind of had that sort of like weird outfit with
- 29:52those like tall hats and everything and like
- 29:56the big uh neck thing you know early hugo boss
- 30:01kind of stuff right before the nazis made that
- 30:03not cool right Yeah, so we get all that kind
- 30:07of an explanation that, you know, they were going
- 30:10to do a bunch of shit to his body to find out
- 30:13what was going on. But they didn't do a good
- 30:15enough job. Ben says like they pulled him apart
- 30:17and like took all his shit out and put it back
- 30:20and just really fucked with him. Yep. So then
- 30:24she takes his blood. Yep. Yeah, she takes his
- 30:27blood. It's super normal blood. That's frustrating.
- 30:29Which means let's look at some more shit. Yeah.
- 30:33What do you think it is? His pancreas? Well,
- 30:36I mean, they explain it's liver. She says his
- 30:38liver. It's right there on the Petri dish. Oh,
- 30:43that's right. Liver enzyme. I'm more appropriate
- 30:46to call it a Riley dish at this point. That's
- 30:48right. Not a Pete. Pete. We changed the name.
- 30:53So you both have a bad joke. Yeah, but mine's
- 30:57intentionally awful. Oh, mine wasn't good. I
- 31:02didn't think it was good. Just unintentionally
- 31:04not as good as you hoped. Oh, still better than
- 31:10mine. I loved when he's getting knocked out and
- 31:14they're like, he's trying to say something. He
- 31:16just goes, I love ravioli. That's so good. Oh,
- 31:24we're going to get you so much ravioli. I don't
- 31:27know how many lines Nick Cage just like got to
- 31:29make up. I don't know, but I hope, I hope there
- 31:32was a good number. Yeah. I hope they let him
- 31:34do. Ravioli seems definitely like something he
- 31:37would do. It feels like it. Yeah. um so yeah
- 31:41he gets drugged and he has like crazy dreams
- 31:44with like spider legs crawling out of his face
- 31:48we get like the horror of this this is coming
- 31:51from his wounds the mask turning into a spider
- 31:54like yeah we get some real good like cronenberg
- 31:57-esque uh body horror in this uh like if the
- 32:02ether mask like the legs grow out of it like
- 32:04turn into a tarantula on his face she cuts him
- 32:07open like spiders just pour out of the wounds
- 32:10i know i don't even dislike spiders and i was
- 32:12pretty like yucked out it's pretty gross oh no
- 32:14the body horror in this episode was so good absolutely
- 32:17we get a return of man spider in the dream yeah
- 32:20welcome back man spider i love man spider uh
- 32:24the only part of this whole sequence that i really
- 32:27didn't care for was like just when he was tiny
- 32:30like running away from the car and stuff it just
- 32:33it didn't look great but the rest of it was so
- 32:35good i liked tiny because it put like everything
- 32:38that's been happening to him up like uh almost
- 32:42like he was seeing it on movie screens and so
- 32:45he was reliving everything that's been going
- 32:47on with him through that yeah uh kind of i just
- 32:50didn't think visually like the car just the cg
- 32:54world it's maybe a little bit weak but i like
- 32:56the concept of it yeah But we also got to see
- 33:00him interacting with Ruby and she calls him a
- 33:04ding -a -ling, which I really liked. And then
- 33:06he's wearing a nerd outfit. Looks like such a
- 33:08dork. Yeah, she also talks like a caricature,
- 33:13but it's his memory, so that makes sense. So
- 33:17then it all kind of boils down to Eczema Boy
- 33:20and the Bumps and Megawatt. coming to collect
- 33:25more supers right talk to the doctor find out
- 33:27there's other so ben wakes up he's you know clearly
- 33:29been operated on he uh manages to get his wrist
- 33:34free nobody's around so he like after a few attempts
- 33:38is able to sling up those keys and get himself
- 33:41uh unrestrained and starts like uh trying to
- 33:46get himself out while uh downstairs like favor
- 33:49finds a cure cures ogden so he looks like he's
- 33:53dirty then like tells him you know hey we got
- 33:57to get out of here but uh we're gonna have to
- 34:00torch the place and get rid of him because he's
- 34:03a loose end so ogden's like i'll do it i'll i'll
- 34:07go up there and look him in the eye soldier to
- 34:09soldier And at the same time, like all of Silvermane's
- 34:12crew and entourage is showing up. So we get,
- 34:15you know, little jumps back and forth between
- 34:17the three sections of the scene with them coming
- 34:21in. I love this. I love the sequence where Ogden
- 34:26and Peter Ogden and Ben are like escaping in
- 34:30the elevator. And then we get. silvermane coming
- 34:33to the elevator the doors open and silvermane
- 34:36and the crew walk in and you're like okay these
- 34:38things are happening at different times like
- 34:40this isn't like we're cutting back and forth
- 34:42between times and then they leave the elevator
- 34:44or no then they have robbie's paper which is
- 34:47how they found the place because robbie printed
- 34:49and a little bit of goo like hits the paper i
- 34:54mean is blood not goo what is blood not goo Not
- 35:00all goo is blood, but all blood is goo. I think
- 35:03all blood is goo. Blood is good. I like blood
- 35:09is good. Ben, Ben bitered his way up on the ceiling
- 35:14with Ogden. Like, I thought that was a nice little
- 35:17like sequence. uh yeah i did too um i like when
- 35:23the the gang shows up and lonnie walks up to
- 35:26the door and he's just like these doors just
- 35:28keep getting bigger and it still just is like
- 35:30just still rips it right off the hinges uh yeah
- 35:35and then silverman goes down confronts the uh
- 35:37the doctor about all this yeah she's like uh
- 35:41or he's like i want to see all the other like
- 35:45soldiers you've helped and she's like well they're
- 35:47all right back here and then it's all just like
- 35:49busted up bodies and like back to tanks and stuff
- 35:53yeah guy with shrimp feet in his mouth uh which
- 35:57could happen to you a bunch of gross fuckers
- 35:59yeah yeah and then uh megawatt's like oh you're
- 36:02not helping them you're just killing making monsters
- 36:04and killing them so he shocks the doctor and
- 36:09that's when ogden shows back up and he's like
- 36:11you can't shock my mommy and he shoots a megawatt
- 36:15and then megawatt's like you you can't shoot
- 36:19me you can't shoot me so he like goes to like
- 36:21take them all down and like the gun gets knocked
- 36:24out of his hand and a fire starts and everybody
- 36:27is on the ground and then silvermane's like let's
- 36:29get out of here this place sucks and so they
- 36:31leave But before that, Ben has stolen the antidote.
- 36:35Yeah, Ben went back, got his clothes and stuff,
- 36:38stole the antidote, stole the liver Petri dish,
- 36:41which doesn't matter anymore because took his
- 36:43name off of it, which then it gets blown up anyway.
- 36:45Who cares? Yeah, but it was good of him to like
- 36:47cover his tracks. Yeah. And then we see Ben outside
- 36:51and the place explodes and Silverman's crew escapes
- 36:55and probably get pretty drunk. I don't know.
- 36:57Yeah. Episode six in the can. Everyone lives
- 36:59happily ever after. Yep. i think it was good
- 37:02i think it's uh like the horror stuff played
- 37:04really well for me i liked that i think it's
- 37:06interesting because it's very different than
- 37:07the first four episodes i think there's a lot
- 37:09of like the interpersonal play between all these
- 37:12different characters it kind of develops more
- 37:14i think it was solid two episodes yeah and i
- 37:17liked the uh diversity in like locations and
- 37:21stuff getting that uh the secret warehouse laboratory
- 37:25thing gave a lot of like opportunities for different
- 37:28like depths and like field of vision kind of
- 37:31things plus you know old laboratories with cool
- 37:34back to tanks and stuff uh awesome tanks full
- 37:37of monsters good i really appreciated with these
- 37:40two episodes that when we got the backstory it
- 37:44was we didn't get a full episode outside of the
- 37:46sequence of like him in the war we just got like
- 37:49maybe a combined seven minutes of backstory throughout
- 37:52these two episodes which is the appropriate amount
- 37:54yeah no given that we only had eight episodes
- 37:56i was really worried we'd get a whole just kind
- 37:58of throw away like flashback episode i think
- 38:01up to this point every episode has mattered well
- 38:05yeah like it all kind of carries this story it's
- 38:09been a tight show yeah i think it's a it's well
- 38:11done for sure and then yeah next we got the big
- 38:14finale two episodes so see what happens we'll
- 38:17see you next time next time folks uh thank you
- 38:20all for listening if you are interested in supporting
- 38:22us we are on patreon at patreon .com slash cage

- 38:43It seems like it worked. Radioactive man spider.
- 38:45Safest way to get powers. Yeah. Do it. Slop them
- 38:50up. Slop them up, boys. Bye. Bye.
