Transcript
- 0:00Play with a lot of heavier metal bands, same show.
- 0:02And it's always, it's surprising and humbling and like shocking
- 0:06to me sometimes that I would be putting between two like black
- 0:09metal bands on a bail and people would stay and some people would
- 0:12come to me after the show and hug me and cry.
- 0:15This metal dudes with beards and like black metal T-shirts would
- 0:19tell me like, oh, you made me feel feelings Like that's,
- 0:22that's, that's what it's about. What's up everybody?
- 0:31It's Kifi. It goes cold. man.com, I am
- 0:33super stoked to be joined once again by Karidi.
- 0:35How are you doing today? Fine.
- 0:37Thank you. Hope you are doing well as well.
- 0:39Yeah. It's been a few years, hasn't
- 0:41it? We, we met during the the plague
- 0:44times and I'm still a huge fan of yours.
- 0:47And you've made so much music in the last few years and the.
- 0:51Yeah, I'm. So I'm just so pleased and proud
- 0:53to see where you've come. And I often, I often cite your
- 0:57past records as records that really helped me get through a
- 1:00tough time, which I think was your.
- 1:01You know, part of your intention is you.
- 1:03We talked about I don't like to redo my interviews when I talk
- 1:07to someone for the second or third time, But you know, your
- 1:09music's got a very healing factor to it.
- 1:12It's it's, you know, I love anything that makes you feel
- 1:16anything is good. But especially when you're not
- 1:19feeling good, music can be a great, you know, a great healer.
- 1:22So I think it's crazy, crazy for me to hear this.
- 1:26Thank you. Oh well, it's all true and from
- 1:29the heart, as you know. And so Still Life is your new
- 1:32album, your second for Lay Bare Recordings.
- 1:36You you've you've carved out a nice little niche for yourself
- 1:40between, you know, these sort of underground records.
- 1:43But like oral music is a label that is still very well regarded
- 1:48in the world and they bear has been doing a fabulous job with
- 1:51you for the last few releases, including the the little joint
- 1:55release with void, which I also loved.
- 1:57And I feel like this album has elements of everything you've
- 2:02ever done, just like, you know, not, oh, you know, overtly so
- 2:05much to make the mix album, the split album.
- 2:08But I love this record. It's it's every record you make
- 2:11is different. It has its own character and
- 2:13personality. I know you're a storyteller
- 2:15first and foremost as a POTUS. And so, yeah, what a fantastic,
- 2:20what a, what a great treat to get to talk to you about this
- 2:23new record still. Life.
- 2:24Thank you so much. Yeah, I'm glad.
- 2:26I'm glad to to be here again and talk to you again.
- 2:28Thank you. Yeah, I'm so thrilled.
- 2:31And I hope, you know, generally speaking, outside of art, I hope
- 2:34music is in life. I hope life is going well
- 2:37because we live in crazy times, just very, you know, very hard
- 2:40times in general in the whole world.
- 2:43This record being born in different times, I think, yeah.
- 2:46For sure. I I don't know that we're all
- 2:49made for these times. It's like so hard.
- 2:52I didn't I, you know, I wonder, I guess it'll build character if
- 2:56what we're made of, we'll find out.
- 2:58What doesn't you make make you stronger?
- 3:00So sure, so true. Not just not just good saw, not
- 3:03just good song material, but real advice for life.
- 3:06So yeah, let's take it back. You know, we're in the end of
- 3:10somehow at the end of 2025 almost.
- 3:12And you know, this, it's also really, I feel like this is a,
- 3:16you know, a really fantastic album for the season.
- 3:19I, you know, some, some albums are a winter, some albums are a
- 3:23summer. This is definitely an autumn
- 3:25album, right? It's very reflective, you know,
- 3:29Tell me about the last few years of, of life and music and, and
- 3:33what led us to this record if you want to share.
- 3:35Well, you were one of the first people who actually cared enough
- 3:38to ask me questions and interview me and put my music on
- 3:41the radio I think as well. So thank you for that.
- 3:44And last few years have been crazy as I think for everyone on
- 3:50this planet. And in terms of music, I
- 3:54released the second album in 2024.
- 3:58And while I was still processing that one, this third one started
- 4:02pouring out the lyrics first, as usual, I had this ideas in my
- 4:05head. I was reading a lot of, doing a
- 4:08lot of self search, introspection, reading a lot of
- 4:13books on, you know, growth and spiritual development and
- 4:18enlightenment and whatnot, and listening to different kinds of
- 4:21music. And with what's happening around
- 4:23the world, with a lot of things that touch, you know, some touch
- 4:26me more than the others. But you know, the world is, as
- 4:28you said, it's a very, it always have been, I think, but it was
- 4:32just with the Internet and the availability of information, we
- 4:37have faster access to all of that.
- 4:39So it's like very overwhelming. It's everywhere and there is no
- 4:43place to hide from it. So the world is very heavy,
- 4:47very, very heavy. And for some people heavier than
- 4:51for the others. I'm one of the lucky ones.
- 4:52My life is pretty OK. It's it's it's great actually
- 4:56comparing to many, many other things that happening to many
- 4:59other humans and non humans everywhere.
- 5:02So, yeah, I've been touring a lot for comparing to what I've
- 5:08or like ever planned or, or, or thought would happen.
- 5:12And, you know, I got invited on a tour with Coltane first and
- 5:16then we did the second one because we had so much fun
- 5:18together. They're like my family and
- 5:20played here and there and some, some some festivals played in,
- 5:24in many different countries in, in weird places like cemeteries,
- 5:27in church ruins. And, you know, my kind of music
- 5:31is, you know, nice. It belongs in, in, in this kind
- 5:35of places. So I'm always very stoked and
- 5:40touched by, you know, people organizing this kind of shows
- 5:43because it takes much more than just organizing a show at the
- 5:47venue with, you know, normal PA and everything, like functioning
- 5:50and everything. So yeah, that has been great.
- 5:53And yeah, this third one is coming now.
- 5:58Didn't plan it. It just came out, wrote itself
- 6:01basically. So here we are.
- 6:03I love that for you and all of us.
- 6:05It happens when it happens. And I think that's really cool.
- 6:09And I I fully agree. I think this is music that can
- 6:12work in theaters. It can work in small, you know,
- 6:15out, you know, the cemeteries and you know, Karini coming to
- 6:19you soon from the mausoleum. Why not?
- 6:22I'm a big fan. It's.
- 6:23Funny remember this please in a in a few months time.
- 6:26Remember this what you said? There you go.
- 6:29I'm going to also go play the Lotto today anyway, the lottery.
- 6:33You know, I'm a big fan of a lot of the Norse Pagan folk music
- 6:37like Mirkar and were Truna and Hilum and they built they
- 6:41sometimes they play it a forest and I could see you also.
- 6:44I think you could work with their music as well.
- 6:48I know I'm so proud that you got to do some touring.
- 6:51This is where we left off when we last met.
- 6:53And he reminded me we did put we did.
- 6:55We had the occasional show on the Gimme Metal radio station.
- 7:00And I played your music on both of my shows, like 3 shows.
- 7:03I played it on two of the three. I had you on my playlist.
- 7:06I have it somewhere. I think it's there's a ghost
- 7:08cult mag, Spotify, where I still have the song list from those
- 7:12shows that I made and you're definitely on there.
- 7:15So I'm really proud of that myself.
- 7:17Thank you for that. You have a great memory.
- 7:19I have a weird life. I get remembered for things like
- 7:22people see me after like 15 years and they're like, you have
- 7:25a beard now, right? And you used to do, you had a
- 7:28metal band when you had long hair.
- 7:30And, you know, like, people have remembered me for like, I don't
- 7:33know that I'm that memorable. I think I'm pretty forgettable.
- 7:35But like, thank you for remember.
- 7:37That was a very good memory for me to put that together.
- 7:40So thank you. And I feel like, you know, I
- 7:43know you always talked about having a full band maybe at some
- 7:45point and, and touring. So I'm really glad you at least
- 7:48got to do some touring and and you found some, you know,
- 7:51musical peers, some collaborators and and allies
- 7:55that because that's kind of what you need.
- 7:57I don't know. I know, I don't know how much of
- 7:59A scene there is where you live. I know we always talked about
- 8:02like sort of the metal scene, but you are such a singular
- 8:05unique artist that there's probably only a handful of
- 8:08people like yourself that you couldn't perform with.
- 8:11So it's. Good.
- 8:12Yeah, in. Front.
- 8:13Of different people I, I, I play yeah I Kariti will always remain
- 8:17like a solo, somewhat solo journey.
- 8:19Now Marco is very present live especially and also on the
- 8:23record he plays a second guitar and like noises and and drawing
- 8:27machine and on the new record you could hear more of him.
- 8:31But besides that, it's still very personal though, like the
- 8:36the new records are not that much introspective more about,
- 8:39you know, the outside world and my my view on that.
- 8:42But yeah, I, I toyed with an idea of of having a band, but I
- 8:48I'm I'm too much of A control freak and it's just too personal
- 8:52really. Like I would not also all the
- 8:54good musicians. There are so many.
- 8:55I know a lot of them, but they're they are full of other
- 8:57bands like there are. There is no way.
- 9:00So this is staying that where it is, I think, and I'm adding
- 9:03things to live setup. I'm using more machines to make
- 9:07it happen because it's not just the guitar and and the
- 9:11microphone anymore, but it's it's it's fun.
- 9:14It's nice. And yeah, I tour with bands.
- 9:15I play with a lot of heavier metal bands, same show.
- 9:18And it's always it's surprising and humbling and like shocking
- 9:22to me sometimes that I would be put in between two like black
- 9:25metal bands on a Beale and people would stay and some
- 9:28people would come to me after the show and hug me and cry.
- 9:31This metal dudes with beer and like black metal T-shirts would
- 9:35tell me like, oh, you made me feel feelings like that's
- 9:38that's, that's what it's about. So yeah, that's thank you.
- 9:41Nice. They're gonna go back to their
- 9:42dark caves and cry no one could see them and do this.
- 9:47But I yeah, I agree. I think I remember talking to
- 9:52you. You know, I'm a big fan of the
- 9:55black metal, our disaster. And he does like all acoustic
- 9:58stuff now. Once in a blue moon, some black
- 10:01metal gets in, but it's mostly just like, very mournful.
- 10:04You've been very like, it's like you're reading into something.
- 10:08I don't know what's happened to you over the years, but you've.
- 10:10Been sleeping, I got super powered.
- 10:12Just yeah. Coffee and weed gummies that
- 10:16help me sleep and now my brain is working better again.
- 10:22In a couple of months like you will understand what I think.
- 10:25Yeah, right. Absolutely.
- 10:26And we, yeah, we've talked, we talked a lot about, you know,
- 10:28bands that I like Panopticon and and Obsidian Tongue and Zester
- 10:32and things like that that's take black metal, but do it in a
- 10:35different, you know, unique and original way.
- 10:37And I do. And I do think like, you know,
- 10:39Europe is a little more open minded.
- 10:41You can in America we have like 7 bands that are all the same.
- 10:45And I think Europe, I think maybe it's because of Rd.
- 10:48Burn and and things like Desert Fest and things like that, you
- 10:51get a little variety, a little more variety from the European
- 10:54fan at, you know, they're used to more eclectic lineups and
- 10:59we're not. Probably never played in the US
- 11:01so I don't know, but whoever. I hope, I hope someday, or I'm
- 11:04going to have to come there because that's what's going.
- 11:06To happen. You're always welcome and thank
- 11:08you. You're always welcome.
- 11:09But I hope so too, someday. Italy, it's on the list.
- 11:12It's probably a few years away. My dream, my dream vacation is
- 11:16Florence because I'm such an art nerd and a music nerd and A food
- 11:20nerd, unfortunately, too much of A food nerd.
- 11:22But like, Florence has been on the list.
- 11:24Yeah. It's been on the list for a long
- 11:25time. But, you know, in general, in
- 11:27general. So, yeah, I'm really happy for
- 11:29you. And I love this record.
- 11:31There's so much, you know, in all your music.
- 11:35There's so much weight, you know, like there's, it's, it's
- 11:39always, you know, so, you know, makes you think.
- 11:41It makes you feel from the very beginning, from the piano in
- 11:45spine all the way to the end in baptism.
- 11:47It's always, you know, I don't, I don't know if every record by
- 11:50you is a concept record or you're just continuing to just
- 11:53ply this entire concept of your art to everything, but you know,
- 11:58it always feels like a unified thing.
- 12:00I know, I know, I read the press materials and shout out to
- 12:03Earsplit again for putting us together and letting me discover
- 12:06you in the 1st place. I know that Still Life was the
- 12:09last song composed, but it does seem to pull everything together
- 12:13in the bit in the middle of the record very well.
- 12:15Yeah, still, life was not even finished when we started.
- 12:18I wrote it while I was rehearsing, preparing to to
- 12:23record and it was like 3 bits of songs put together.
- 12:26The lyrics were from a dream I had about different.
- 12:30I have very vivid dreams. And there was a friend of mine
- 12:32who's not longer no longer with us in this dream.
- 12:36But also many other things that made me, you know, it's
- 12:39eclectic. It's, the song itself is
- 12:41eclectic as is the album, I guess a little bit at least.
- 12:44I don't know, not very homogeneous.
- 12:47And yeah, I just put this 3 little bits together.
- 12:51And the third one was purely improvisation basically in
- 12:54studio because we started doing the layers and layers of vocals.
- 12:57I started like I turned the snare drum over and I started
- 13:00doing the thing with the just, you know, just playing with
- 13:03things because I wanted to play everything by myself.
- 13:06Although I don't know how to play drums.
- 13:07That's you know, and it was a, some sort of a, a trip outside
- 13:12of my comfort zone in terms of singing as well.
- 13:15Because Lorenzo who records me all the time, he made me almost
- 13:19record without almost like a reverb, which, you know, is like
- 13:22a security blanket for me for many, many people who saying
- 13:25like, oh, reverb, nice big reverb and things are good.
- 13:28But I don't like my, my own voice.
- 13:30It like feel weird about it. Like I, I grew to be OK with it
- 13:34over the years. And of course people say you
- 13:36continue singing. So there is, you know, you must
- 13:39like it somehow. Yes, but also it's it's a
- 13:42different relationship, so being very, you know, raw and like
- 13:47almost nude in, in terms of the voices outside of my comfort
- 13:51zone. But it was very liberating, very
- 13:54inspiring. So I'm I'm grateful we we got to
- 13:57do that. And yeah, Still Life is a is a
- 13:59song that when it was done, I said, OK, this is the the name
- 14:03of the album as well, because it's just so it pulls everything
- 14:06together, as you said, so. Nice work.
- 14:08I, I do, I agree. I think, you know, as, as
- 14:11artists, whatever that you know, whatever it is, singing, poetry,
- 14:15music, you know, painting poetry.
- 14:18I said that already. I think whatever we do to push
- 14:21ourselves to go beyond what we are, the easiest thing, the
- 14:25thing that comes first, even if it's good.
- 14:27I know there's sort of a thing inside of us all trying to light
- 14:30a little voice in the back of the head saying like, try, try a
- 14:33little more, go a little further, do it a little
- 14:35differently. So it's nice that you're, you
- 14:37know, even if it's, you know, the best art comes from, you
- 14:40know, the the best art and the most success, whatever that
- 14:44level is for you personally happens when you push yourself
- 14:47out of your comfort zone. So it's nice to hear that you're
- 14:49experimenting and and open, even if it's hard.
- 14:53It is, you know, we are. It's, it's thanks to the people
- 14:56I, I sort of work with, like because I, I, I don't think I
- 15:01would be able to do this at least this way the, by myself.
- 15:05So I write everything. It's my, my, my child, let's
- 15:09say. But yeah, it helps to have
- 15:11people who have an outside perspective and they push me
- 15:15outside of this comfort zone and I'm very grateful for that.
- 15:18Right, Do you get do I never asked you this before, but do
- 15:20you get to a point with a song or a poem or a vocal where
- 15:24you're like, this is good enough or I'm this is this has to be
- 15:28the last one or the end. It's finished now.
- 15:32It's I always find that to be the hardest part of the process,
- 15:34like when is it done is the hardest question for me to
- 15:37answer. I have to ask that to you, do
- 15:39you do you have you struggle with that?
- 15:41Is it easy? Surprisingly, like in my life,
- 15:45I'm a perfectionist and it's never enough.
- 15:47It's never good enough in everything I do except with the
- 15:50music, which is weird because it's a very, it's the thing that
- 15:54makes me the most insecure because I pour myself too much,
- 15:57so much in in it, you know? And it makes me like, it bears
- 16:01me basically in front of other people who listen or who
- 16:04especially when I play live. But with the music, the lyric,
- 16:09the vocal part is only almost always take first take the good
- 16:15one. We never redo like recording.
- 16:18We never redo the the vocal part.
- 16:21I'm more I have a lot more problems with completing an
- 16:25instrumental part because I'm just not sure that it sounds
- 16:28good. Oh, there is this little lick
- 16:30that doesn't sound nice. Let's do this again.
- 16:32And yeah, that's end UPS. That end UPS being like 100
- 16:35hundred takes. But we recorded a very short
- 16:38amount of time because I stay in in, in the in the place for a
- 16:41few days and we do it. This record, record was recorded
- 16:44in like a week time. Even less, I think, yeah.
- 16:46Wow, nice. I know you like to work fast.
- 16:48We talked about that once before.
- 16:49Once you're starting, you want to.
- 16:51Get it out there. Get it out of the way.
- 16:53Get it, get it out of the way and work, you know, move on to
- 16:55the next thing, which is, you know, a very good approach.
- 16:58It's very, you know, that actually key is there's a purity
- 17:01in that. Like if you spend, you know,
- 17:03it'd be interesting to see if you had like, time, more time,
- 17:06what would develop, you know, a double album maybe.
- 17:11But I like the time. The self constraint is
- 17:13impressive because, yeah, I'm also, I think anybody that's
- 17:17ever worked with me knows that I'm also a bit of a
- 17:19perfectionist. And, you know, I have to.
- 17:21Yeah. It's hard to let go.
- 17:23Yeah, You know, it's like a child.
- 17:27You don't want to let it go. But I do it because, again, I
- 17:30have this two people, basically Marco, who also plays some
- 17:33instruments, guitar and drones and, and and on the record and
- 17:37plays live with me. But also he's the person I look
- 17:39up to the most in terms of music because of his musical culture,
- 17:43taste, experience and everything.
- 17:45And also Lorenzo, who has a very different approach.
- 17:47He's a musician as well, but he also he's a super, super music
- 17:51technical nerd. So he like comes up with this
- 17:54weird ideas, weird things like putting little things that you
- 18:00don't even hear them, but they are there and they're making a
- 18:02difference. And these two people are like,
- 18:06especially Lorenzo because he spends the time with me from the
- 18:08beginning to the end. Marco comes at a certain point,
- 18:10records everything. His takes are always just one
- 18:13take, almost improv. All of it is improvisation,
- 18:16which are perfect because, you know, he knows what he's doing.
- 18:19Compare to me and Lorenzo. He's always like, OK, this is
- 18:25it, this is it, this is done. Now you know that like that's it
- 18:29and you have to be OK with it. And then I listen to it after
- 18:32like the day after and said, OK, yeah, you're right.
- 18:35It was done. It's just my perfectionist mind
- 18:37was going crazy because I'm so much into this.
- 18:40But yeah. So again, I I'm helped by by
- 18:45people to to make it efficient somehow.
- 18:47But it's also very spontaneous. It's like very, very, it comes
- 18:52the, the, the way I write this music, it always comes on its
- 18:56own. And we recorded the same way.
- 18:58So, yeah. And I don't have, I, I don't
- 19:00think I would ever be able to record with anyone else.
- 19:03I don't know, Never say never. But this is like my safe space.
- 19:06And I, I, I, the songs are born in, in their final shape in that
- 19:11place. And yeah, it's it's my favorite
- 19:13part. Nice 2-2 words we don't often
- 19:15hear in these interviews that I do many of efficient and
- 19:19spontaneous. So I love that for you.
- 19:21I love that so much. And it really when you hear the
- 19:24whole record it, it really hits home.
- 19:27And I would say like what I'm really enjoying is Repeat
- 19:29Lessons I think is this album, you know, like overtime, you
- 19:34know, like a good classic rock record.
- 19:35I hear new things when I go back and listen to your earlier
- 19:38records. I hear new things when I revisit
- 19:40them. So I love I can't listen.
- 19:42To them anymore. Yeah, I get it.
- 19:45I know. I know how you are and I totally
- 19:47understand it there. You know, we all, you know, the
- 19:49ear and the brain are weirdly connected.
- 19:52Like how sound, how we hear our own voice and singing voice
- 19:57inside our head is so different and alien when you hear it
- 20:01recorded. And yeah, doesn't sound.
- 20:04Like, yeah, same. You know, I'm, I'm back to
- 20:07actually singing again for the first time in, in like 20 years.
- 20:12I've been up in, in a band and, and I wasn't even my band when I
- 20:16was in a band 20 years. I was like a backup guy, which
- 20:18was fine. It suited me at the time.
- 20:20After being like a singer for the my whole life, I was like,
- 20:23let me just be in the background and scream a little and play
- 20:26bass. But now I started playing music
- 20:28again and I really appreciate it.
- 20:30I was like, Oh yeah, this is hard.
- 20:32And I hate the way I sound in the PA and I just kind of block
- 20:35it out and I do what I do. But I know it's sort of like a
- 20:41tug of war with your own. You wanna get this music out of
- 20:44you because it's inspiration and it's healing and helping, but
- 20:47it's also difficult because it's like, I don't wanna hear.
- 20:49Me exactly. I wanna do everything else but
- 20:51hear me. Yeah.
- 20:54Yeah, exactly. Super interesting.
- 20:56I love the artwork of this album.
- 20:58I wanted to talk for a minute about that We never get to talk
- 21:00enough about the artwork because I'm always like this about your
- 21:03voice and your poems and your and your writing, but I love
- 21:07this artwork. It's probably my favorite piece
- 21:08of artwork. I I wanted it yeah, I wanted you
- 21:10to talk a little bit about it and.
- 21:12And if it we know what's the connection to the?
- 21:14Music. Yeah.
- 21:14So for this one, I knew that I didn't want to have myself on
- 21:18the cover of the album. I wanted to to have something
- 21:22that represents the concept concepts, multiple of the songs.
- 21:27So the person who I work with for a long time, Laura, who
- 21:31makes made, she made all of almost all of my videos.
- 21:35Some of them are yet to be released.
- 21:37And she introduced me to another friend of hers and colleague
- 21:42who's a digital multidisciplinary artist,
- 21:45Ashley. So ask them please to come up
- 21:47with some ideas for for this. You know what they could come up
- 21:52with after hearing the because Laura is also very deep person.
- 21:55We have a deep connection outside of music, so she had
- 21:58feelings about the songs and we made the one video and then
- 22:02another one. And then for the artwork, I
- 22:04said, OK, please come up with something.
- 22:05And they came up with different options and there were different
- 22:09versions of all of them were some sort of flowers on this
- 22:13black background. And when I saw that one, the one
- 22:17that ended up being the cover art, I was like, I had chills on
- 22:21my, you know, and everyone who saw it as well, they, they had
- 22:25the same similar reaction, very impactful somehow.
- 22:29And it, it matches very well the, the, the, the ideas behind
- 22:35the, the songs. And they got the inspiration
- 22:39from this flower that is called the Queen of the night.
- 22:43And it blooms only once and has this very strong smell when it
- 22:50blooms. And it's like, I don't know, it
- 22:53emulates some light or something.
- 22:54It's so it's, it's, it's native to Central America.
- 22:57I don't know which countries exactly.
- 22:58So they get, they got inspired by that flower, which is
- 23:02regarded as something connected to rebirth and you know, like
- 23:07changes in life and, and personal growth and, you know,
- 23:12growth through hardship and things like that.
- 23:14So, and then they added, digitally manipulated the image,
- 23:18they added the, the, the spines which represent the, the other
- 23:21part. So it's like it's, it's a, I
- 23:23love that it's a match of, of a, of an image and of a, the man
- 23:29made elements to it. So it's, I don't know.
- 23:33It's just, it's when I saw it, I said, OK, this is this is the
- 23:36one. And I love it.
- 23:37I just, I'm so grateful for, for the people I get to share my
- 23:42vision with and who share theirs with me.
- 23:44So yeah. Queen of the Night is also
- 23:46appropriate for you and your music.
- 23:47That's amazing. And shout out to Laura.
- 23:50These lyric videos are beautiful just.
- 23:52Yeah, this is Ashley. Ashley made the second one.
- 23:55The one the for purge is just mind blown.
- 23:58Yeah, the song, when we recorded it, people who heard it like,
- 24:01oh, this is very David Lynch. This is very twin picks.
- 24:04I'm like, oh really? Yeah, I didn't think about it,
- 24:06but it is. And I guess David Lynch passed
- 24:09away during that time. So we were all about, you know,
- 24:13re recording his like remembering his art and and I
- 24:16guess there was some subconscious inspiration to it.
- 24:18I don't know. And obviously Angelo Badalamenti
- 24:21is a huge inspiration as well because of the music.
- 24:23He like the the incredible sound.
- 24:26He, he, the them too, they created the universe of their
- 24:29own and the video is representative of that as well.
- 24:34And it's so just mind blowing. Yeah.
- 24:38There will be another one that both of them made together.
- 24:41So it's. Yeah, I can't wait.
- 24:43Oh, that's so exciting. I mean, I'm a freak for David
- 24:46Lynch and I'm so sad that he passed away.
- 24:48Don't smoke cigarettes, everybody.
- 24:50They'll kill you. He.
- 24:52Yeah, it was his one is one problem in life was cigarettes
- 24:56couldn't couldn't quit it. But yeah, I I totally got that
- 25:00the minute I saw the purge video.
- 25:01But I really even even the the still life.
- 25:04Still life. I made it by myself actually.
- 25:06Yeah, the great job. Great job.
- 25:08Yeah, it's great. I need it.
- 25:10I, I, I guess the, the main thing about the, the, that song
- 25:13are the, the lyrics and they're really, you know, sharp and like
- 25:16repetitive. And so I said, OK, I just, I'm
- 25:18just going to do that with very little experience I have in into
- 25:23making anything on like digitally.
- 25:25So yeah, I, I shot first part of the video.
- 25:29I actually shot it in a museum in, in Vienna, like an
- 25:32exhibition. So I had to like change it a
- 25:34little bit so that they don't sue me for cooperating.
- 25:38But it's my own video actually. Like I made it not, I didn't
- 25:41steal it from someone else. And then I just, yeah, I just
- 25:44wanted to give the space to the the words.
- 25:46I don't think I ever asked you if you were a fan of Chris
- 25:48Cornell or Soundgarden, but this reminded me of a funny story.
- 25:51So you know, Soundgarden became pretty big.
- 25:53Chris Cornell was gorgeous and great looking guy with his long
- 25:56hair and Jesus Christ pose and all the music videos on MTV.
- 26:00And I am, of course. I mean, I am a fan, obviously.
- 26:02Who isn't? Hated that he hated being the
- 26:05center of attention. So then they went to this thing
- 26:08in the mid 90s before the band broke up where all their videos
- 26:11were not with the band in the video, but it was that he was
- 26:14like, it was actually more work to not be in the video than to
- 26:17be photographed in the video. So it was just as bad, he said.
- 26:21So I think it's pretty funny. I know that I know, you know, we
- 26:24all have, you know, a little self talk about ourselves and
- 26:27how we sound and again, how we sound outside and play back to
- 26:30us and how we look. And you don't want to betray the
- 26:33music you're trying to express. So I love that you're trying to
- 26:37stretch out and and not necessarily be the center of
- 26:40attention with. The music, the the the next
- 26:43video will have me in it because it's like it tells a story
- 26:46because as you said in the beginning, I am a storyteller,
- 26:48at least aspired to be or whatever.
- 26:50But yeah, I I like to distance myself because it's not as much
- 26:55about my own things as about the things that touch me one way or
- 26:59another, but they're happening somewhere else outside of me,
- 27:01so. Nice.
- 27:03Well, we look forward to that. And also, you know much more
- 27:07from you. I sincerely hope we don't go
- 27:09five more years without talking, but I'm so pleased and how far
- 27:12you've come. Yeah, I know you're here.
- 27:14I'm here. Let's.
- 27:15Do more, you're busy. And I have been busy, but never
- 27:18too busy for good artists and good music to share to share.
- 27:21Just for a last question, you know, I always end these with a
- 27:25wild card question. So I don't think I ever asked
- 27:28you. Who is your favorite poet of all
- 27:29time, if you had to pick one for life?
- 27:31Oh my God. Oh my God, this is a horrible
- 27:33questions to ask a person. They're all, they're all
- 27:37horrible. That's the secret.
- 27:40No. When they start asking about the
- 27:42favorite albums, like I'm like no, no.
- 27:44I learned my lesson last time. No, if I had to really choose
- 27:48just one poet, OK, I think it would be an Ahmatova.
- 27:54Yeah, because of the depth and the anger and the the audacity
- 27:59she put in her in her work. But there are so many more, like
- 28:03so, so, so many more. There are so many more people
- 28:05who are not poets in a like a traditional sense.
- 28:08They're like, they like they write lyrics for songs, for
- 28:11instance, but they are like like Nick Drake or, I don't know,
- 28:17ducks rigs, Like, I don't know if they released like they
- 28:22published books with their pointer.
- 28:23I don't think so because I would have had it already.
- 28:25But there are so many people who who put so much poetry into just
- 28:30the music lyrics. So yeah, too many.
- 28:32But Anatomy would be the one if I had to really, really choose
- 28:35one. Nice, I'm on record as saying I
- 28:37never thought Acid Bath would get back together and not only
- 28:40do we have an Acid Bath tour touring this year in festivals.
- 28:43Yeah, that's. That one of my favorite records
- 28:45of the year is the DAC solo record from Early.
- 28:47In the yeah, it's amazing because everything he touches is
- 28:50amazing. But they're coming to Europe
- 28:52with this crazy like. System right now.
- 28:55Yeah, we'll see. I think they're going to
- 28:58probably do some sideshows by themselves, like I.
- 29:00Really hope, I mean you guys are lucky over there because you get
- 29:03to see them. It's easier for you, but for us
- 29:06it's just it would be a dream like anywhere.
- 29:08I would go anywhere to see that band.
- 29:10Right on. Well, I'm rooting for them.
- 29:12I'm rooting for you. Really lovely to talk to you
- 29:15today. One of my favorites.
- 29:16I'm not supposed to have favorites, but you are one of my
- 29:19favorites. Karidi, thank you so much.
- 29:21Thank you from and for your support over the years.
- 29:24Thank you so much. Very it's.
- 29:25My pleasure. Very nice.
- 29:27Thank you. Yeah, my pleasure.
- 29:28Whatever we, whatever we can do to help.
- 29:30We'll talk to you soon. And I look forward to hearing
- 29:32your music. I will go check it out later.
- 29:34Someday. Someday too, and I hope, yeah.
