- 1:14Speaker 2: to be sharing her favorite money wins from the community.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Becsied has a few very good broke tips to share.
- 1:20Speaker 2: We're going to be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma,
- 1:22Speaker 2: which this week is all about fears of a crashing
- 1:26Speaker 2: stock market, and we're going to unpack something that you
- 1:28Speaker 2: slid into our DMS about which this week we're talking
- 1:31Speaker 2: about what to do when your job and your ethics clash. So, Beck,
- 1:36Speaker 2: you've decided to work remote this week? Where are you?
- 1:39Speaker 2: What are you doing and why are you doing it?
- 1:40Speaker 4: Well, great questions all round. I am celebrating, as you
- 1:44Speaker 4: as know, my birthday month, which means that I've can't.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Seen she's on tour. It's the birthday tour.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Tour exactly, the national tour exactly exactly. So I've come
- 1:55Speaker 4: to see my family because they thought they could get
- 1:57Speaker 4: out of cake presence because I live in Melbourne. Now
- 2:01Speaker 4: they don't have to do it wrong.
- 2:03Speaker 2: No, they do wrong.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I'm here, I'm here and you better be bringing some
- 2:07Speaker 4: good stuff to the table. So anyway, everyone, are we
- 2:09Speaker 4: expecting here? What are the expectations? Is that homemade cake?
- 2:12Speaker 4: Is it a cheesecake shop cake? Do we just want
- 2:14Speaker 4: a Col's cake? Do we just want the attention?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Like?
- 2:17Speaker 4: What is it?
- 2:18Speaker 5: So?
- 2:19Speaker 4: I'm honestly a man of simple pleasures. I don't ask
- 2:23Speaker 4: for that much, but I do want an original Peter's
- 2:26Speaker 4: ice cream cake.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's just that's just a shave.
- 2:32Speaker 6: Yes, the fluffy white icing on ice cream on top
- 2:36Speaker 6: is so good.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, I didn't know you liked that. I
- 2:39Speaker 4: should have got that for you.
- 2:41Speaker 2: When you're back for birthday month, we should have one.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Ice cream cake. Everyone can buy one and eat it
- 2:46Speaker 6: with as live next Friday.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Oh okay, I'm in, I'm in. I like that. You're
- 2:52Speaker 2: a man of simple pleasures. My dad is also a
- 2:54Speaker 2: man of simple pleasures. Whenever it's his birthday. Do you
- 2:57Speaker 2: know what cake he asks for?
- 2:58Speaker 6: Is it a Wooli's mud cake?
- 3:00Speaker 2: No, it's better. It's a chocolate ripple cake. Every true.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Like he's just like the cream and the chocolate reppele biscuits. Like,
- 3:10Speaker 2: don't put anything on it though, Like it is a
- 3:12Speaker 2: disgrace to him if you put like a peppermint slice
- 3:15Speaker 2: or something on top. Absolutely not.
- 3:17Speaker 6: He's a man of simple play.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Like chocolate ripple cake. That's almost cheaper than it Coles
- 3:23Speaker 2: mud Cake. I reckon it. Colls mud Cakes? What like
- 3:26Speaker 2: five bucks?
- 3:26Speaker 6: Now?
- 3:28Speaker 1: No?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Absolutely not. Yeah, the ripple cake definitely cheaper money. There
- 3:34Speaker 2: you go.
- 3:34Speaker 4: It's actually broke tip because it's extremely cheap. But yes,
- 3:38Speaker 4: of course, true inflation, It's true the three Eyes.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I love this so dex on tour. Miss Jessicataci, you're
- 3:45Speaker 2: here but not on tour. Thank you for that logistical nightmare.
- 3:49Speaker 2: If we're honest, if more than one of us has
- 3:51Speaker 2: left the studio. So, how's your week been.
- 3:54Speaker 6: It's been good. I haven't done anything super exciting. I
- 3:57Speaker 6: don't think this week, just sitting up home. I bought
- 4:01Speaker 6: my first Halloween.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It started early. Wow, it's August.
- 4:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I know, but they're releasing all the cute stuff already,
- 4:10Speaker 6: and so it's like one of these things you have
- 4:12Speaker 6: to get it or itself. I like, I'm a you
- 4:14Speaker 6: don't realize this week? Actually I am a victim. Oh
- 4:19Speaker 6: you are, because all the takes is one person.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Have you only just realized this?
- 4:25Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Kind of Oh wow.
- 4:26Speaker 6: Do you know what it was that like tipped me over?
- 4:28Speaker 5: Is?
- 4:28Speaker 6: I was watching you were watching tiktoks?
- 4:31Speaker 2: So would you like to reframe it too? I was
- 4:33Speaker 2: reading an article because that's what I do when i've
- 4:36Speaker 2: I feel like I've exhausted my quota of I saw
- 4:38Speaker 2: on tiktoks that week.
- 4:40Speaker 6: I was watching a TikTok and someone was they were
- 4:43Speaker 6: doing a sponsored post, like it was clearly disclosed that
- 4:45Speaker 6: that should be sponsored post for like alkaline infused water.
- 4:50Speaker 6: And for a moment, I was like I should buy that.
- 4:53Speaker 6: That'll make me healthy, like water is.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Free from the tap.
- 5:00Speaker 6: I originally it's like they just sucked me, convinced me.
- 5:03Speaker 6: And I it was in that moment that I was like,
- 5:06Speaker 6: oh my god, just like snap out of it.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I feel like that is that is a lot yess.
- 5:14Speaker 2: The water nearly got her. I mean I used to
- 5:16Speaker 2: be a victim of the Fiji water. Like back when
- 5:18Speaker 2: I was in school, all the cool kids had Fiji
- 5:21Speaker 2: water and I desperately wanted that. It makes no sense,
- 5:24Speaker 2: it's water. And then also have you seen the new
- 5:26Speaker 2: marketing And I don't know if like this is a
- 5:28Speaker 2: bad thing to say on it, but there's a company
- 5:30Speaker 2: promoting hydrogen water. Oh maybe that's what it was. Hydrogen water. Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 2: but like it's called H two O because there's already
- 5:38Speaker 2: two hydrogens per oxygen molecule in water, Like how can
- 5:42Speaker 2: you hydrogen the water more? And this is the thing,
- 5:45Speaker 2: is the comprehendible.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Also why what's the benefit?
- 5:51Speaker 2: I don't know, but like.
- 5:52Speaker 4: There's already hydrogen more actually kind of curious.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Feel like, get some hydrogen in all water back? Yeah,
- 6:01Speaker 2: I don't get the hydrogen water. If someone wants to
- 6:04Speaker 2: slide into my DMS and educate me, I will happily
- 6:07Speaker 2: correct myself on air next week. But yeah, till then,
- 6:11Speaker 2: I am much a confused though.
- 6:12Speaker 6: Yeah, and I have learned that I need to put
- 6:15Speaker 6: twenty four hours between me and my spending and maybe
- 6:16Speaker 6: sometime to out myself on air to realize how embarrassingly
- 6:19Speaker 6: big of a sucker.
- 6:20Speaker 4: I love that.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I love that. So next week on She's on the Money,
- 6:25Speaker 2: we'll be doing Brogue tips, money wins, and also health
- 6:28Speaker 2: tips from Jess. Yes, let's get the She's on the
- 6:34Speaker 2: Money community wins out of Jess though, because those are
- 6:36Speaker 2: definitely worth it, unlike hydrogen water. So what have you
- 6:40Speaker 2: got to bring to the table this week?
- 6:41Speaker 6: I've got some goodies this week. Firstly, a simple one
- 6:44Speaker 6: but one we should all be doing.
- 6:45Speaker 2: From Christina got water for free out of the tap.
- 6:48Speaker 3: I thought no.
- 6:49Speaker 6: Christina said she googled the brand she was buying from
- 6:52Speaker 6: a discount code. She found a twenty percent off code.
- 6:54Speaker 6: Within about three seconds, She said, she saved herself fifteen bucks,
- 6:58Speaker 6: and you'd be crazy not to do it.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Always do that, and I'm always giving free credit to
- 7:04Speaker 2: influencers who have posted their totally their discount codes online.
- 7:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I have no issue with you getting your little kick.
- 7:10Speaker 2: You can get your kick back. I don't know who
- 7:12Speaker 2: you are, Molly one o one, but I've just used
- 7:15Speaker 2: your code, got a discount and we're all happy here.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Yeah. Just trying all the generic basic names plus ten
- 7:21Speaker 6: plus twenty yes, sorry ten Black Friday ten.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I have tried just ten, just twenty five. Neither
- 7:27Speaker 2: of those of works. Welcome back is a good one.
- 7:29Speaker 6: Welcome back is the right one. Yeah, so very good
- 7:31Speaker 6: reminder for Christina. Next, I've got money in from Rebecca,
- 7:34Speaker 6: who said money win. I entered my dog in a
- 7:37Speaker 6: competition and she won overall and we got heap of
- 7:40Speaker 6: prizes that were worth more than the entry.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Feel what competition, I don't know.
- 7:44Speaker 6: She said. Dog sports are apparently a hobby, so I'm
- 7:47Speaker 6: assuming maybe the dog was doing something athletic. But Rebecca
- 7:50Speaker 6: did give us a picture of said dog. Can I
- 7:52Speaker 6: weady with the prize? Go look at all of his ribbons?
- 7:57Speaker 4: Wait a minut all that I can see. That's very cute.
- 8:00Speaker 2: He's got like, not only has he got like a
- 8:02Speaker 2: prize pack, he's like sitting in the middle of his
- 8:04Speaker 2: prize pack. He's got an orange monkey toy in a
- 8:07Speaker 2: blue too can. He's got like a slow feeder mat
- 8:09Speaker 2: and all of these like little doggie like ribbons.
- 8:13Speaker 6: He's absolutely slaying. Well stand reback about se one. If
- 8:16Speaker 6: you want to see the picture, check out the thread.
- 8:17Speaker 6: And we've had a few people dms on Instagram this
- 8:19Speaker 6: week saying where do I send my money Wins VD
- 8:22Speaker 6: puts a thread in the Facebook group every week, so
- 8:24Speaker 6: if you're not in the Facebook group, go join.
- 8:26Speaker 2: And also there's actually an unwritten rule in that money
- 8:29Speaker 2: Wins thread, and that is if you're going to mention
- 8:31Speaker 2: your pet, you need to be paying pet tax, which
- 8:34Speaker 2: is actually the tender is actually a photo of your
- 8:37Speaker 2: pet that needs to accompany that post exactly. Yeah, so
- 8:41Speaker 2: don't post about your pets unless you're actually going to
- 8:43Speaker 2: show us your pets.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Yes, Recca's paid a tax up for the year. Well done. Next,
- 8:47Speaker 6: I've got a money win from Alone who said life win.
- 8:50Speaker 6: I recently invested in the Kmart glass containers and they're
- 8:54Speaker 6: really really good. They keep everything super fresh, and she
- 8:57Speaker 6: now has five that she keeps on rotation and her
- 8:59Speaker 6: produicy is lasting a lot longer than it did when
- 9:02Speaker 6: she was using plastic containers.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I feel like good research into how to get your
- 9:06Speaker 2: produce to last longer is well worth.
- 9:08Speaker 6: It completely, and the came out ones are really affordable.
- 9:11Speaker 6: I have a heap that I bought years ago from
- 9:13Speaker 6: it and they're still going strong, but they came up.
- 9:15Speaker 6: One's much cheaper, So.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Money win, very big money win.
- 9:18Speaker 6: From Lauren. Next, I've got one from Julia who said
- 9:22Speaker 6: she paid off her iPhone and she's going to keep
- 9:24Speaker 6: it so now she's paying forty dollars less per month
- 9:27Speaker 6: phone bill.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Money win. That's a lot of money that allowed up
- 9:30Speaker 2: over time too completely. My question is, though, what are
- 9:33Speaker 2: you doing with that forty dollars? You're just letting it
- 9:35Speaker 2: go into your account or investing it or are we
- 9:37Speaker 2: saving it? Like do something automated with it.
- 9:39Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good idea, all right. Next, top money
- 9:41Speaker 6: in from Leah who entered a bake sale contest. There's
- 9:44Speaker 6: a bit of a thing this week, lots of people
- 9:45Speaker 6: entering things which I love. And she paid twenty six
- 9:47Speaker 6: dollars in ingredients and to her great surprise, she won
- 9:51Speaker 6: got a two hundred and fifty dollars restaurant voutcha, which
- 9:54Speaker 6: oh more than cover teme.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Can we have a Shes on the money bakesale that
- 9:57Speaker 2: would be very wholesome. I feel like we should. Beck
- 10:00Speaker 2: will organize that you work ad a you're in. We'll
- 10:02Speaker 2: do it on like a day that we come in
- 10:05Speaker 2: to record the podcast. Can we actually we will sell
- 10:08Speaker 2: our goods.
- 10:08Speaker 6: Yeah, go desk to desk.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Yep. We'll put our little stool out front of the
- 10:13Speaker 2: podcast studio and people can come buy our muffins.
- 10:16Speaker 5: One.
- 10:16Speaker 2: There'll be a competition to see who sold out first,
- 10:20Speaker 2: and then to we can donate the money into charity.
- 10:23Speaker 6: It's giving lemonade stand.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It's giving it adult lemonade stand.
- 10:26Speaker 6: Very into it. Lastly, this week, speaking of lemonade, I've
- 10:29Speaker 6: got money win from and who said she arrived at
- 10:32Speaker 6: Buddings to buy some fruit trees yesterday and they were
- 10:34Speaker 6: marking them down to.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Half price, so she will buy Can I have one?
- 10:37Speaker 6: I know? She wore apple, peach, nectarine, cherry, two plumps,
- 10:40Speaker 6: apricot and almond trees for only twenty five to thirty
- 10:43Speaker 6: dollars A true.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Okay, So where are you putting all of these trees? Miss?
- 10:46Speaker 2: I have space?
- 10:47Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a lot of trees.
- 10:48Speaker 2: That's a lot of trees. Also almond tree, Yeah, what
- 10:52Speaker 2: does that look like?
- 10:52Speaker 6: I know that almonds come from somewhere, it just never
- 10:55Speaker 6: occurred to me that it was a tree.
- 10:56Speaker 4: No. Same. I only just learned that cashews come the
- 11:00Speaker 4: very unnecessary pair looking thing. Have you guys seen a
- 11:03Speaker 4: cashew dress?
- 11:04Speaker 2: I know, so, Jessica is probably gonna be mind blown here.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Peanuts come from the ground. They dug up like potatoes,
- 11:16Speaker 2: right like in what Oh they come in the nuts.
- 11:19Speaker 2: They come in those sorts.
- 11:20Speaker 6: See, I thought peanuts were on trees dug up.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Also another fun fact, dates, which when I was pregnant
- 11:29Speaker 2: you saw me consume a lot of turns out they
- 11:31Speaker 2: did nothing emergency ces area and one out of ten
- 11:33Speaker 2: cannot recommend they grow on palm trees.
- 11:36Speaker 6: Aren't they just like dried plums?
- 11:38Speaker 2: No, that's a brune trees where dates come from?
- 11:46Speaker 6: Ess Wow, I need to go do like an educational
- 11:49Speaker 6: session in the Woolies project section because I got no idea.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Look I'm here. I also recently learned on TikTok again,
- 11:55Speaker 2: so this has become she's on TikTok not she's on
- 11:58Speaker 2: the money. You can eat un almonds and it's like
- 12:01Speaker 2: a delicacy and a lot of cultures and I really
- 12:03Speaker 2: want to try them. So if anyone knows where I
- 12:05Speaker 2: can purchase those, please slide into my dams and let
- 12:07Speaker 2: me know, because apparently it's coming up to uncooked almond season.
- 12:10Speaker 6: She got Bunnings by half Trees.
- 12:12Speaker 4: By the Trees, a very new straight from the sauce.
- 12:15Speaker 2: I love this all right, Jess. Were they all your
- 12:18Speaker 2: money wins this week?
- 12:19Speaker 6: That's all I've got?
- 12:19Speaker 1: Loved them.
- 12:20Speaker 2: We've learned a lot. Every day is a school day.
- 12:23Speaker 2: It turns out, Beck, what have you got when it
- 12:25Speaker 2: comes to broke tips?
- 12:27Speaker 4: Okay, so no entering competitions on my end, but I
- 12:30Speaker 4: am really impressed. It kind of feels like we're living
- 12:32Speaker 4: in like the olden days, old timey days. There's really cute,
- 12:35Speaker 4: really wholesome cottage corps. My first broke tip comes from Wibby,
- 12:39Speaker 4: who says that she was walking around the QVB the
- 12:42Speaker 4: other day and she had a bit of time to
- 12:43Speaker 4: kill and often they have those little pop up hair
- 12:46Speaker 4: tall styling stalls. So she killed fifteen minutes, got her
- 12:50Speaker 4: hair curled, and she knows it's dice and does this
- 12:52Speaker 4: too occasionally with their air rap via know you love
- 12:55Speaker 4: an air rap for no air wraps and no cost
- 12:59Speaker 4: Like that is wild. So she walked away feeling guilt free.
- 13:03Speaker 2: That's a money win, not just a broke tip. You've
- 13:06Speaker 2: doubled down here totally.
- 13:07Speaker 4: It's in everything tip. Like that's really smart. But I
- 13:10Speaker 4: always says before too. But like if she pair that
- 13:13Speaker 4: with a Maya visit and just got a bunch of
- 13:15Speaker 4: perfume samples.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Oh, she'd be looking good and smelling fresh.
- 13:19Speaker 1: That's shit.
- 13:19Speaker 4: That's really what we need, and it's free for you love.
- 13:22Speaker 2: We love that genius. Good one from you, Lyuby.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Thank you Libby. The next one comes from two. This
- 13:27Speaker 4: one is about lemons. Lemons, lemons, lemons. So there's so
- 13:31Speaker 4: many things you can do with lemons, and I'm sure
- 13:33Speaker 4: that a lot of these people have tried already, but
- 13:35Speaker 4: I'm just gonna read them out in case you have it.
- 13:37Speaker 4: So juice the lemon, freeze them in ice trees so
- 13:40Speaker 4: you can use them at a later date. Extremely healthy
- 13:42Speaker 4: and full of vitamins amazing. Dry the lemon peels to
- 13:45Speaker 4: make homemade pot pury. I don't actually know what that is,
- 13:49Speaker 4: pope pura pop pure pop pop pourri po pourri hopurrie.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Yes, I like that. We got there finally together.
- 14:00Speaker 6: It's like the nice smelling stuff that you have in
- 14:02Speaker 6: a bowl or something in it.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Yeah, and toilet Yeah, I mean I've literally never seen
- 14:08Speaker 4: it before. I've never felt a need for it, but
- 14:10Speaker 4: I'm gonna try it anyway. May as well. I love this.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I love it's a zesty smell and keeps the bugs away.
- 14:15Speaker 4: That's incredible. Put a few slices of lemon in your
- 14:17Speaker 4: kettle and boil them to get rid of lime scale.
- 14:20Speaker 4: You can make homemade Yeah, that's smart. That's a good one,
- 14:22Speaker 4: really really good stuff. You can make homemade antiseptic spray
- 14:25Speaker 4: with lemon juice, vigar bike up so I drop it,
- 14:28Speaker 4: eucalyptus oil and clean your wooden chopping boards.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I think that's not everything you can do with lemon,
- 14:34Speaker 4: but those are a few things you can do with lemon.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You can do so much with lemon, like and use
- 14:38Speaker 2: the whole lemon as well, totally use the zest use
- 14:42Speaker 2: the peel like, Ah, it's so.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Gorge totally, totally so my broke tip.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Oh you've got one as well? Where does it come from?
- 14:52Speaker 2: This week back?
- 14:53Speaker 4: Genuinely myself, But I don't know if you guys are
- 14:55Speaker 4: gonna love this one. I don't know how useful it's
- 14:58Speaker 4: going to be for you, but it will be used
- 15:00Speaker 4: full for other people. I know that full strength.
- 15:02Speaker 2: We're ready, So we're ready. Obviously.
- 15:04Speaker 4: I had a house party on the weekend that passed,
- 15:07Speaker 4: and I always get really stressed about parties because I'm like, yeah, a.
- 15:12Speaker 2: House party, it's not in my vocabulary. No, that's not
- 15:15Speaker 2: happening at my house. Chess, you can come to my house,
- 15:17Speaker 2: then someone else can come over, Like we're not over
- 15:19Speaker 2: capitalizing on people in my property. A house party is
- 15:22Speaker 2: not an option.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Yeah that seems fair.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Fair dinner party. I'm out for that.
- 15:26Speaker 6: Sure, Yeah, freeze party.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Maybe I'd have to have that many friends.
- 15:32Speaker 4: They all tend to cost a lot of money, basically,
- 15:34Speaker 4: is the point. And I was really worried. I always
- 15:39Speaker 4: get really stressed around party time because I'm like, everything
- 15:42Speaker 4: you do, you don't even think of things like snacks.
- 15:45Speaker 4: You gotta buy chairs, you gotta buy fairy.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Lights before you know it so they can stand.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's it. Well, but also, like you know, music, everything,
- 15:53Speaker 4: everything's so expensive anyway, So my tip is go onto
- 15:57Speaker 4: your local. This is probably more of a melbourneing. I
- 16:00Speaker 4: I know that Sydney has this, and when I lived
- 16:02Speaker 4: here before it didn't feel very communal. I don't think
- 16:04Speaker 4: there's a Sydney version, but there might be. I could
- 16:06Speaker 4: be wrong.
- 16:07Speaker 2: There might be. And if there is, slid into my
- 16:09Speaker 2: damns and that can share it with yes please.
- 16:11Speaker 4: But in Melbourne we have good carma networks and so
- 16:15Speaker 4: I'm even though I don't live there anymore, I'm still
- 16:17Speaker 4: part of the bronze with good carbon network. And then
- 16:18Speaker 4: there's fitz Roy everywhere and you can just jump on there.
- 16:21Speaker 4: I jumped on and it was like literally an hour
- 16:23Speaker 4: before my party started, and I was like, does anyone
- 16:25Speaker 4: have milk crates? I just need milkrates because I need
- 16:26Speaker 4: people to sit down, because I only had four seats
- 16:28Speaker 4: in the whole house. And so someone was like, I
- 16:31Speaker 4: have a bunch of milk crates. I don't need them back,
- 16:34Speaker 4: just take them money. When before I knew it, everyone
- 16:38Speaker 4: had a seat, everyone had a little place to rest
- 16:40Speaker 4: their hat, and I didn't take a single sense. So
- 16:44Speaker 4: just jump into your local good Carmen at work or
- 16:46Speaker 4: whatever your equivalent is, and ask for fairy lights that
- 16:49Speaker 4: you can just borrow them. Ask to borrow them, seats, ice, buckets, ice, firewood, anything, anything, anything.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I love that I do have to ask, what are
- 16:58Speaker 2: you doing with the milk crates?
- 17:00Speaker 4: They will forever sit in a very inconvenient spot. They
- 17:05Speaker 4: will forever be a new sense. But honestly they were free.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Next house party we have and someone else will probably
- 17:12Speaker 4: post a similar thing in the future, and I'll.
- 17:14Speaker 6: Be like, is gonna say, surely you passed them along?
- 17:16Speaker 4: Exactly? I've got some milk crates for your.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I also have another question, if I may be, of course,
- 17:22Speaker 2: how did you transport.
- 17:23Speaker 6: The milk crates?
- 17:24Speaker 1: Oh?
- 17:24Speaker 2: Just in my car?
- 17:25Speaker 4: Is he easy?
- 17:27Speaker 2: How many milk crates fit in a car?
- 17:29Speaker 5: Wait?
- 17:29Speaker 6: I want to guess.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I want to get I want to guess in game.
- 17:31Speaker 2: It's a game, es how many milk crates fit in
- 17:33Speaker 2: a car?
- 17:34Speaker 6: I'm going to go fifteen.
- 17:35Speaker 2: How many milk crates did you get in total?
- 17:37Speaker 4: So I actually didn't get that many this time around,
- 17:39Speaker 4: but I have in the past filled my car, so
- 17:42Speaker 4: I do know the number and.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Oh she knows me es oh twenty? How many fit
- 17:49Speaker 2: in the car deck?
- 17:50Speaker 4: From memory, it was like eighteen and I have a
- 17:52Speaker 4: small cards. I have a very small car. You guys
- 17:56Speaker 4: have seen my car.
- 17:58Speaker 6: Eight I was envisioning my carrier and trying to picture
- 18:00Speaker 6: how many I gets.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Duck, Yes, it's probably similar size.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I love this so good Calma Networks. That is actually
- 18:06Speaker 2: a really good thing. Beck. I know that you said
- 18:08Speaker 2: it was for house parties, but even if you're like
- 18:10Speaker 2: furnishing a house, like check out those platforms because you
- 18:14Speaker 2: could get a money.
- 18:15Speaker 4: In exactly exactly. So I love Have you enjoyed that one?
- 18:21Speaker 1: That one?
- 18:21Speaker 2: All right, we're going to go to a really quick
- 18:23Speaker 2: break on the flip side. We're going to be talking
- 18:25Speaker 2: about what to do if you're fearful of a crashing
- 18:28Speaker 2: stock market, and then we're also going to be talking
- 18:31Speaker 2: about what to do when your job and your ethics clash.
- 18:33Speaker 2: So don't go anywhere, guys, Welcome back, everybody.
- 18:40Speaker 6: Let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 18:47Speaker 2: can't solve? The Sheese on the Money team is here
- 18:50Speaker 2: to help. Every week, we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 18:53Speaker 2: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 18:56Speaker 2: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 18:59Speaker 2: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 19:01Speaker 2: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 19:04Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 19:08Speaker 5: I'm a late twenties gal and I've been interested in
- 19:14Speaker 5: investing to try and boost some of my future incomes.
- 19:18Speaker 5: But whenever you think of investing, you think of things
- 19:21Speaker 5: like stock markets and the massive risk of crashing and
- 19:25Speaker 5: losing millions of dollars rather than safe investments. And wasn't
- 19:29Speaker 5: sure where to begin. Have listened to the podcast for
- 19:31Speaker 5: a long time, try to do some of my own research,
- 19:34Speaker 5: but find I keep getting stuck on this idea of
- 19:36Speaker 5: investment equals either property or stock market, which is a
- 19:42Speaker 5: dangerous game. And wasn't sure there too. Because thanks for
- 19:45Speaker 5: the advice.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Very timely, Because Beck, what did we just record?
- 19:49Speaker 4: We I want to you can't remember, No, No, I
- 19:53Speaker 4: want to keep the magic alive and be like, we
- 19:55Speaker 4: record this in two different days. But we did just
- 19:57Speaker 4: record an episode about annalysis, paralysis.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And how you get overwhelmed once you start doing too
- 20:02Speaker 2: much research and understanding it. But I feel like this
- 20:05Speaker 2: is a good time to remind you that it totally
- 20:08Speaker 2: feels like risk because you are taking risk, but it's
- 20:11Speaker 2: a relatively calculated risk. And what you have on your
- 20:14Speaker 2: side is time. And the important thing when it comes
- 20:17Speaker 2: to the share market is actually how much time you
- 20:19Speaker 2: spend inside the share market, right, And we know two
- 20:22Speaker 2: things to be true when it comes to the share market.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I'm probably going to list off more than two things,
- 20:27Speaker 2: so just don't hold me to account to my own words.
- 20:29Speaker 2: So the first is that if you take any thirty
- 20:32Speaker 2: year period in time over the history of the Australian
- 20:36Speaker 2: Stock Exchange and to have a look at that thirty
- 20:39Speaker 2: year period, not one person has lost money if they
- 20:42Speaker 2: stayed invested. So we know that if you stay invested
- 20:45Speaker 2: for the long term, investors like long term investors, always
- 20:48Speaker 2: come out as winners. We also know to be true
- 20:52Speaker 2: that the share market over your entire lifetime or the
- 20:57Speaker 2: average Australian lifetime, is going to have seven market dips,
- 21:01Speaker 2: so seven times you are going to log into your
- 21:04Speaker 2: profile and see that the market has crashed. So the
- 21:08Speaker 2: biggest one that we saw in I guess more recent
- 21:11Speaker 2: times was the global financial crisis, which happened in two
- 21:13Speaker 2: thousand and eight, and obviously, if I showed you a graph,
- 21:16Speaker 2: we have more than recovered from that. But what happens
- 21:20Speaker 2: during a time of dip is people freak out right,
- 21:22Speaker 2: and we're seeing that literally this week because the market
- 21:25Speaker 2: is off and there has been an absolute dip in
- 21:28Speaker 2: the market and people go, oh, my gosh, my investments
- 21:31Speaker 2: are worthless money. Should I be selling Jess? And the
- 21:34Speaker 2: answer is often no, because we need to ride that out.
- 21:37Speaker 2: We don't want to crystallize our loss, which means we
- 21:40Speaker 2: sell at a price that is much less than what
- 21:42Speaker 2: we paid for it because we're scared. And what happens
- 21:46Speaker 2: over time, if you are a consistent investor is you
- 21:50Speaker 2: would stay invested and your money would recover, if not double.
- 21:53Speaker 2: And we know because of the rule of seventy two,
- 21:55Speaker 2: which I probably should do an entire podcast on, because
- 21:57Speaker 2: I feel, like I've said on the podcast so many times, like, oh,
- 22:00Speaker 2: because of the rule of seventy two, people are like, yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 2: okav Ha was that we probably should deep dive into that.
- 22:06Speaker 2: But essentially The crux of that rule is that money
- 22:09Speaker 2: will double every seven to ten years, and so we
- 22:12Speaker 2: know that over the long term, if you're investing in
- 22:15Speaker 2: the Australian share market, guys, your money should double over
- 22:19Speaker 2: that period of time. But what we need to have
- 22:21Speaker 2: on our side is time. We also know that the
- 22:24Speaker 2: media sensationalizers loss. Jess, would you like to read an
- 22:29Speaker 2: article on, you know, my share portfolio? Probably not because
- 22:33Speaker 2: it's boring. It was up last year and that was great,
- 22:37Speaker 2: but there's nothing to write home about because my plans
- 22:40Speaker 2: for that portfolio are that over the next thirty years
- 22:43Speaker 2: makes me rich. If that's the plan, I don't want
- 22:47Speaker 2: it to be sexy. I don't want it to be notable.
- 22:49Speaker 2: But you know what's notable when somebody invests all their
- 22:52Speaker 2: money and then loses it.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Yeah, they want like the clickbait story.
- 22:55Speaker 2: We literally had my friend Tracy Hall on the podcast
- 22:58Speaker 2: the other day to talk about how she lost three
- 23:01Speaker 2: hundred and seventeen thousand dollars to a scam artist, because
- 23:05Speaker 2: that is great content that we can learn from. People
- 23:08Speaker 2: are genuinely more interested in engaging in content that ignites
- 23:12Speaker 2: our emotion than we are in engaging in content that's like, oh,
- 23:16Speaker 2: so you're doing well. That's nice.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Yeah, Like no one cares.
- 23:20Speaker 2: So I think when we're looking at it, and going
- 23:22Speaker 2: back to our listener question, you're worried about it because
- 23:25Speaker 2: you would hear stories because the media perpetuates those stories.
- 23:28Speaker 2: But if we look at the reality of the situation,
- 23:31Speaker 2: if you have time on your side, investing is a
- 23:34Speaker 2: no brainer, and.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Dips are often an opportunity to get ahead, like the
- 23:37Speaker 6: dipyvnial this week. I literally this morning chucked extra money
- 23:40Speaker 6: in mind did you.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I am so proud of you.
- 23:43Speaker 6: My normal ETF is like a little bit off, like
- 23:46Speaker 6: Sixtysons down from where it was last time I bought her.
- 23:49Speaker 2: So you're telling me that you invested during a dip
- 23:52Speaker 2: and you were like, oh, this is an opportunity for
- 23:55Speaker 2: me exactly.
- 23:55Speaker 6: Like, which is not always the case. Not financial advice obviously,
- 23:59Speaker 6: but like if that's something, but you're seizing.
- 24:01Speaker 2: An opportunity that you have identified for yourself, and we
- 24:03Speaker 2: don't know what you're investing in all, how that works.
- 24:05Speaker 2: It's actually not of our business. But I think it's
- 24:08Speaker 2: important to understand that mindset is really important. And Jess,
- 24:12Speaker 2: you've been investing for a number of years now, which
- 24:13Speaker 2: is really cool. And I know that the first year
- 24:16Speaker 2: we were kind of like laughing. We were laughing at
- 24:19Speaker 2: your dividends. We're laughing about dividends because we're like, ha
- 24:22Speaker 2: ha ha, I made fifty cents. I'm going to be rich.
- 24:26Speaker 2: But are you starting to see the fruits of your
- 24:28Speaker 2: labor a little bit?
- 24:29Speaker 6: I think more than anything, it's just nice to see
- 24:31Speaker 6: it like growing overall, Like, even with the dip, my
- 24:34Speaker 6: portfolio is still up about I think seven percent or something,
- 24:36Speaker 6: which is okay, And I like, I'm not doing anything vancy,
- 24:39Speaker 6: like I'm investing primarily in one year.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You must have had a really good financial advisor.
- 24:45Speaker 6: Yeah, imagine that.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Wow, it's so sad she's retired now. Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 24:52Speaker 2: That's a good question. I feel like, you know, at
- 24:54Speaker 2: the end of the day, analysis paralysis comes into this.
- 24:57Speaker 2: And then also on that episode, Beck, you and I
- 24:59Speaker 2: Beck were talking about the worst thing that's never happened
- 25:01Speaker 2: to you and how we often all jump to the
- 25:04Speaker 2: worst possible conclusion and it's important, like we want to
- 25:07Speaker 2: weigh up our risk, we want to talk about what
- 25:09Speaker 2: could possibly happen, but maybe ask yourself the question of like, well, Jess,
- 25:13Speaker 2: what's the worst thing that's never happened to you? And like,
- 25:16Speaker 2: what you've made up in your mind is often worse
- 25:18Speaker 2: than the reality of the situation.
- 25:20Speaker 6: And keep an eye out for that episode.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yes so soon, good shout.
- 25:24Speaker 2: All right, let's get into some spicier content because this
- 25:27Speaker 2: week we got a DM from you guys, and it's
- 25:30Speaker 2: all about what to do when your job and your
- 25:32Speaker 2: ethics are clashing. Alright, are you ready ready? Hi? Sheeeese.
- 25:37Speaker 2: On the money, I'm having a big moral to lever.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I have a job that I absolutely love. It pays
- 25:43Speaker 2: really well, the team is amazing, and I genuinely enjoy
- 25:46Speaker 2: the work that I do. However, recently the company has
- 25:49Speaker 2: been in the news for engaging and behaviors that totally
- 25:52Speaker 2: clash with my values. It's reached a point where some
- 25:55Speaker 2: people I respect have refused to work with us because
- 25:58Speaker 2: of it. Feeling super conflicted, I don't want to be
- 26:02Speaker 2: a part of something that doesn't align with my principles,
- 26:04Speaker 2: but I also don't want to give up a job
- 26:07Speaker 2: that's been so amazing, and if I go elsewhere, I'm
- 26:10Speaker 2: probably gonna have to take a pay cut. I'm really
- 26:12Speaker 2: struggling with this. What would you do?
- 26:15Speaker 6: I want the tea.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I M very disappointed you didn't DM me the company
- 26:20Speaker 2: you work for, Like what was the client that wouldn't
- 26:24Speaker 2: work with you?
- 26:24Speaker 4: Like we need to know can we take google it?
- 26:26Speaker 4: I think we could probably google it with a few
- 26:28Speaker 4: key words.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent, But we're not going to do that.
- 26:31Speaker 2: We're not going to do that.
- 26:32Speaker 4: We're not going to do that. But I just feel like,
- 26:33Speaker 4: like big companies, not all like I don't want to
- 26:36Speaker 4: say all hashtag not all companies, but I feel like
- 26:39Speaker 4: if we did try and google it, the like, like
- 26:43Speaker 4: we just be flooded with news because there'd probably be
- 26:46Speaker 4: heaps of options exactly, which makes you think like a
- 26:50Speaker 4: lot of companies are like this, and like, you know,
- 26:52Speaker 4: I don't want to obviously point things on name names,
- 26:54Speaker 4: but I've definitely worked in some companies that I feel
- 26:58Speaker 4: like my values don't feel line with their overall kind
- 27:03Speaker 4: of like I don't know what they've been doing behind
- 27:05Speaker 4: the scenes. Some companies are a little bit corrupt, of course,
- 27:08Speaker 4: like some management styles are really really awful, and some
- 27:11Speaker 4: people in higher places aren't.
- 27:13Speaker 2: The best people sometimes.
- 27:15Speaker 4: And I did read a book about psychopaths in kind
- 27:19Speaker 4: of like I'm really jumping here, but psychopaths in like
- 27:22Speaker 4: higher positions. John ronson psychopath It's a really good book.
- 27:25Speaker 4: You kind of just know that sometimes people who are
- 27:29Speaker 4: a little bit morally corrupt can climb their way to
- 27:33Speaker 4: the top just by stepping out other people. So it's
- 27:36Speaker 4: not unheard of that companies kind of can get themselves
- 27:40Speaker 4: into like a bit of hot water, just basically because
- 27:43Speaker 4: sometimes the right people aren't really running or driving the ship,
- 27:48Speaker 4: if that makes sense. So it's probably going to be
- 27:50Speaker 4: hard to find a company that is completely unscathed and
- 27:56Speaker 4: completely morally sound in its entire But that's not to
- 28:01Speaker 4: say like if there's something that's it's really hard to
- 28:04Speaker 4: without all the Jews, it's really hard to say, but yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 4: I need, Yeah, I guess, like going off what we
- 28:10Speaker 4: have here, if it's something that's so bad that you
- 28:14Speaker 4: don't think if you could kind of boil the whole
- 28:17Speaker 4: company down into one person, if you're like, all that's
- 28:20Speaker 4: so bad that i'd need I would cut this person
- 28:22Speaker 4: out of my life, then maybe look elsewhere. But if
- 28:27Speaker 4: it's like I don't know, I don't know, this is
- 28:30Speaker 4: probably really bad advice because it might have been really
- 28:32Speaker 4: bad what they're talking about.
- 28:33Speaker 6: We don't know, We don't know.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, reckon, I agree.
- 28:37Speaker 6: I think the context. You know, it's one thing, is
- 28:39Speaker 6: the company being done for like poor business practice or
- 28:42Speaker 6: you know, things that it sounds bad, but I think
- 28:45Speaker 6: it's going to very person to person. But there are
- 28:47Speaker 6: certain moral ethical things that may sit better or worse
- 28:51Speaker 6: with you as an individual. So like, for example, if
- 28:54Speaker 6: they've misspaying everyone super like do it? I like morally
- 28:57Speaker 6: disagree with that. Obviously they're gonna have to pay it back.
- 28:59Speaker 6: Verse is are they, you know, part of some ring
- 29:03Speaker 6: of corruption that's doing Yeah, really horrible humanity.
- 29:06Speaker 2: That's where my brain's going, right, because I think that
- 29:08Speaker 2: there are ethical dilemmas that you can easily avoid, Like Jess,
- 29:11Speaker 2: would you like to work for an oil company?
- 29:13Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 29:13Speaker 2: And you go no, I don't because I don't want
- 29:15Speaker 2: to work for that company. But then on the flip side,
- 29:17Speaker 2: this sounds like it's something that she didn't know about
- 29:19Speaker 2: that has come about and is now in the media.
- 29:22Speaker 6: Yes, I agree completely, So you know there's that to
- 29:25Speaker 6: take into account. I guess the severity of it and
- 29:27Speaker 6: where on your personal scale of morals that problem sits.
- 29:30Speaker 6: I think, like the big thing of note for me
- 29:32Speaker 6: here is that you said you love your job, it
- 29:35Speaker 6: pays you well, you work with great people. That is
- 29:38Speaker 6: very very hard to find in.
- 29:40Speaker 2: A job, and I still hasn't found it back, still.
- 29:43Speaker 6: Searching, just kidding.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Almost all those boxes are ticked, but certainly not the
- 29:47Speaker 4: people that you work with.
- 29:48Speaker 6: Yeah, so if you were to go to another company,
- 29:53Speaker 6: there's a very high chance that, okay, you would maybe
- 29:56Speaker 6: be more morally aligned with all of their choices or
- 29:58Speaker 6: all of their choices to your knowledge, but maybe the
- 30:00Speaker 6: pace shit, or maybe the people are awful. Like it's
- 30:03Speaker 6: very hard to tick, as you're saying back, like all
- 30:05Speaker 6: of those boxes, and I guess it's about weighing up
- 30:08Speaker 6: what's important to you. If there's a big ethical issue,
- 30:12Speaker 6: I would also argue, especially if it's in the media,
- 30:15Speaker 6: change should be about to happen, you know, again, depending
- 30:18Speaker 6: on what the problem is. If it's the kind of
- 30:20Speaker 6: thing that clients are refusing to work with you, that
- 30:24Speaker 6: means that there's like a systemic issue within this company
- 30:26Speaker 6: that needs to be addressed and for the company to continue,
- 30:29Speaker 6: for them to continue to succeed. Theoretically that needs to
- 30:33Speaker 6: be resolved. So hopefully change is on the horizon.
- 30:36Speaker 2: And hopefully it's just good pr for that company to go, Hey, Jess,
- 30:41Speaker 2: we don't want to work with you right now, Like
- 30:43Speaker 2: we just don't want to be dragged into this media storm.
- 30:46Speaker 2: We don't want to work with you. And it's not
- 30:48Speaker 2: actually personal. I think you're you're hitting the nail on
- 30:51Speaker 2: the head. For me, it's actually about what are they
- 30:54Speaker 2: planning on doing and how is that effectively being communicated?
- 30:57Speaker 2: Because we know that when something hits the media, we
- 30:59Speaker 2: work in media, we know that by the time it
- 31:02Speaker 2: hits the media, it's such a small part of what's happening.
- 31:06Speaker 2: So it might be like this big expose and you
- 31:08Speaker 2: get all this information, but like did you know about
- 31:11Speaker 2: it before? What was being hidden? Like what are the outcomes?
- 31:15Speaker 2: What kind of interventions are happening in your workplace right
- 31:18Speaker 2: now to deal with that? Like if there's a media
- 31:21Speaker 2: shit storm, and then on the flip side, they're not
- 31:23Speaker 2: saying anything internally at all that would make me feel
- 31:25Speaker 2: so uncomfortable completely, like address it. Hit the nail on
- 31:28Speaker 2: the head, like where are we going? What are we doing?
- 31:31Speaker 2: Is it clients not working with you because they don't
- 31:34Speaker 2: want to be involved in what's going on currently, Like
- 31:36Speaker 2: what's the outcome going to be? Because I'm assuming it's not.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Like I use the oil company as an example, I
- 31:41Speaker 2: think because I'm an ex financial advisor and that was
- 31:43Speaker 2: often something the clients didn't like. But if it's an
- 31:46Speaker 2: oil company, like you might not want to work at BHP.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Just yeah, But also you might have chosen to work
- 31:52Speaker 2: at BHP because they actually have a really good grad program,
- 31:54Speaker 2: They've got really good leadership development tools, like you kind
- 31:58Speaker 2: of are using that as part of your path way
- 32:00Speaker 2: to get into the career that you want to get into.
- 32:03Speaker 2: So it's completely up to you how you deal with this.
- 32:07Speaker 2: I would really struggle with it, and I know that
- 32:09Speaker 2: you know the rest of my team would too. I
- 32:11Speaker 2: think we're so ethically minded, like we are very black
- 32:15Speaker 2: and white, Like there's not a lot of gray in
- 32:18Speaker 2: what's right and wrong in our team. And I don't
- 32:20Speaker 2: think that that's a bad thing. I think there's lots
- 32:22Speaker 2: of room for gray in every other area. But like
- 32:24Speaker 2: when it comes to not doing the right thing by
- 32:26Speaker 2: your employees, I think all of us like, Nope, that's
- 32:29Speaker 2: not on like there's no like, oh, it's okay if
- 32:32Speaker 2: they just didn't notice, And I'm like, no, that's actually unacceptable, Like, yeah,
- 32:36Speaker 2: I can't get past that. I think you need to
- 32:38Speaker 2: have a think about, well, what's the outcome going to
- 32:40Speaker 2: be twelve months from now? And you're right, Jess, like
- 32:43Speaker 2: if you adore your job, it's also not your responsibility.
- 32:47Speaker 6: So like if you.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Weren't playing into this, then I think that that could
- 32:51Speaker 2: be a conversation to have with your manager and going, well,
- 32:55Speaker 2: I'm actually at an ethical crossroads? What's going on here?
- 32:59Speaker 2: Like I don't really want to support this. I can
- 33:01Speaker 2: always guarantee everyone else internally it doesn't want to either.
- 33:04Speaker 6: Can you be a part of the change too? Again,
- 33:06Speaker 6: depending on what it is, Like is it something that
- 33:09Speaker 6: you know, if you say you really care about this
- 33:10Speaker 6: job and the work that you're doing, Like, is it
- 33:12Speaker 6: something that you're okay, great? Like I want to see
- 33:13Speaker 6: a change or be the change? Like how do we
- 33:16Speaker 6: as a team within this company facilitate a shift towards
- 33:19Speaker 6: something that is more by the greater good? Exactly right?
- 33:22Speaker 2: I like it. Well, it turns out this is actually
- 33:25Speaker 2: more common than we thought it would be. Really forty
- 33:28Speaker 2: one percent of the Sheese on the Money community have
- 33:31Speaker 2: had an ethical concern about their workplace. Wow, forty one
- 33:35Speaker 2: is a lot.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I thought of you more, but I mean forty one.
- 33:40Speaker 2: It is actually more because nineteen percent of people said
- 33:42Speaker 2: yeah kind of, but it was actually only a small thing.
- 33:45Speaker 6: Oh, I see, okay, so like sixty seventy did you say, yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 6: there you go seventy percent.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Wow, that's so high sixty the MATTHI math.
- 33:56Speaker 2: And then we asked our community as well. You work
- 34:00Speaker 2: for a high paying job, but if the company's value
- 34:02Speaker 2: is clashed with yours, would you do it?
- 34:04Speaker 6: Jes see, this is a this is such your number.
- 34:06Speaker 1: This is.
- 34:08Speaker 6: If someone said to me, we'll pay you a million
- 34:10Speaker 6: dollars a year, I would I work for v HP
- 34:13Speaker 6: now and I would totally just be like great fight
- 34:15Speaker 6: the man from the.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Inside really well to do it true, Like this isn't
- 34:20Speaker 2: on me. I feel like there's a point when your
- 34:24Speaker 2: friends ask you be like, Dave, it's not that deep.
- 34:27Speaker 4: First of all, it's really risky that we're talking about.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Is I want if in case any of our bosses
- 34:33Speaker 4: be don't I don't think you have a boss, do you?
- 34:36Speaker 2: She's the boss, so we're gonna break it to you
- 34:42Speaker 2: now too.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Also, you are my boss, so I just want you
- 34:46Speaker 4: to know block your ears because me and Jess have
- 34:48Speaker 4: a lot of things to say about this. But no,
- 34:50Speaker 4: just kidding, I want any of my bosses and Jess's bosses.
- 34:54Speaker 4: That's why I'm still here, not be to just know
- 34:58Speaker 4: it's not them. But yes, I'm the I will probably
- 35:01Speaker 4: I think I would still work for a kind of
- 35:05Speaker 4: like a corrupt or, like a company that doesn't really
- 35:08Speaker 4: morally align with me, which I know is crazy that.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Here first, misspec say, ed will work for a corrupt
- 35:14Speaker 2: company if you pay her well.
- 35:16Speaker 6: And again it's it's on the scale. It's not like, yeah,
- 35:18Speaker 6: we're exploiting children or funding you like no, no, no, no,
- 35:23Speaker 6: not here for that.
- 35:23Speaker 2: But like if no, no, no, money makes the world
- 35:26Speaker 2: go round.
- 35:26Speaker 6: There's a little gray area. I know, we just said
- 35:28Speaker 6: there's no gray but no, we.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Asked our community and forty eight percent of you said no,
- 35:33Speaker 2: my values are too important. That's really good. Okay, you said, yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 2: the money matters. It does. Yeah, Like, at the end
- 35:40Speaker 2: of the day, money is life changing. And I mean
- 35:43Speaker 2: we can argue back and forth about how you know,
- 35:46Speaker 2: money doesn't buy happiness. It doesn't, but you know what,
- 35:49Speaker 2: it makes me pretty comfortable.
- 35:50Speaker 6: It buys you some peace of mind, buys you.
- 35:52Speaker 2: A peace of mind, It buys you early retirement, It
- 35:54Speaker 2: buys you so much stuff, it buys the food on
- 35:57Speaker 2: your table.
- 35:58Speaker 6: Yeah, Like it's just I think inspective.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Comes in here a lot. Like I was reflecting over
- 36:03Speaker 2: the weekend, I've been doing a lot of like gratitude practices,
- 36:07Speaker 2: and I was reflecting over how grateful this is, probably
- 36:11Speaker 2: me getting a little bit more she so apologies. Will
- 36:13Speaker 2: get back onto corrupt track in a second. But my
- 36:17Speaker 2: husband and I went out for breakfast with my baby
- 36:19Speaker 2: on the weekend and we were sitting there and I
- 36:21Speaker 2: was having eggs and a coffee and my husband's just
- 36:23Speaker 2: playing on his phone, and I was getting a little
- 36:25Speaker 2: bit annoyed because like he wasn't giving me the attention
- 36:27Speaker 2: that I thought I deserved in that moment, right, And
- 36:29Speaker 2: I was like, get off your phone. You're always on
- 36:30Speaker 2: your phone, and he was like, bit rich, but okay.
- 36:33Speaker 2: And then we get home and I'm thinking, wow, I
- 36:36Speaker 2: just take it so for granted that I am able
- 36:39Speaker 2: to go out for breakfast. I'm able to purchase a
- 36:41Speaker 2: breakfast meal at a restaurant. There are people where that's
- 36:46Speaker 2: their one fancy thing that they do in the year. Yeah,
- 36:49Speaker 2: Like I need to pull my head in. And I
- 36:51Speaker 2: think it's all about perspective because some people who say,
- 36:55Speaker 2: oh my gosh, I would never work for a corrupt company,
- 36:58Speaker 2: It's like, do you know what, there are a lot
- 37:00Speaker 2: of people who would. You can't judge people for the
- 37:03Speaker 2: decisions that they're making because you don't know where they're
- 37:05Speaker 2: coming from totally.
- 37:06Speaker 4: And that's what I was going to say before, is that,
- 37:07Speaker 4: like some people literally just don't have a choice, Like
- 37:09Speaker 4: we just don't have the option. We just have to
- 37:12Speaker 4: do it. And that's where that's kind of a job
- 37:13Speaker 4: I'm sitting. I'm not saying that I would actively do it,
- 37:16Speaker 4: but some people just don't have a choice.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think that's it. Like, and I mean
- 37:20Speaker 2: Jess and I are joking about haha, we'd get a
- 37:22Speaker 2: million dollars a year, like you, I can be bought.
- 37:24Speaker 2: We can all joke about that, but at the end
- 37:26Speaker 2: of the day, there are going to be a lot
- 37:27Speaker 2: of people in our community who are like the I
- 37:29Speaker 2: hate my job, but I live in a small town.
- 37:30Speaker 2: It's the only job I could get. Yeah, totally, Like,
- 37:33Speaker 2: I don't want to do it. I don't like my boss.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I think he is the worst person in the entire universe,
- 37:37Speaker 2: and I need the paycheck. Yeah, respect because that could
- 37:41Speaker 2: be hard.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:42Speaker 2: We did ask the community, as always, we said what's
- 37:44Speaker 2: your two cents? What do you reckon? A lot of
- 37:47Speaker 2: you said, and I liked this, your job is separate
- 37:49Speaker 2: from you. Go in the money and leave your life.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Someone else said, I'm actually a criminal defense lawyer.
- 37:56Speaker 6: It's hard, perfect example, but go, it's.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Just work, and I know right from wrong at the
- 38:01Speaker 2: end of the day. That would be so hard being
- 38:03Speaker 2: a criminal defense lawyer.
- 38:05Speaker 6: I don't think I could do it. Like, that's a
- 38:07Speaker 6: line for me that I like. That's something that I
- 38:09Speaker 6: would find challenging. But I go, if that is working
- 38:12Speaker 6: for somebody else, like, go, queen, someone's.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Going, I've got mad to respect for people like that.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Imagine walking into a courtroom and being like, so I'm
- 38:19Speaker 2: here to actually defend this. I know he said that
- 38:22Speaker 2: he did it, but we're just going to try and
- 38:23Speaker 2: get him as light a sentence as possible.
- 38:25Speaker 4: I don't think I could do it. I don't think
- 38:27Speaker 4: I could do it. That's probably too much, because then
- 38:29Speaker 4: you have to like, oh, it's a whole thing, anyone.
- 38:30Speaker 4: I'm not going to get started. But I don't think
- 38:31Speaker 4: I could do that.
- 38:32Speaker 2: Exactly if possible, being part of the solution, you can
- 38:35Speaker 2: fix the problem from within. Yes, so I didn't realize,
- 38:38Speaker 2: you replied. Someone said, in this economy.
- 38:41Speaker 6: Sit down, totally totally valid.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Someone else said, please tell us more. We need to
- 38:47Speaker 2: know about the company. I know, but this is not
- 38:50Speaker 2: our place.
- 38:51Speaker 6: Sadly, it's a safe, an anonymous space.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Someone said, ill pass and it won't matter soon enough,
- 38:56Speaker 2: which I think is really nice. And then someone said,
- 38:58Speaker 2: if they made a statement about what they're intending to
- 39:01Speaker 2: do and change their ways, I'd stay as long as
- 39:04Speaker 2: they were making good on that. Yeah, I think that's important.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Someone else said, and I think that in this climate.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Like Jess and I went through a phase last year
- 39:13Speaker 2: when we were like, it's economy. Yeah, we kept saying
- 39:15Speaker 2: in this economy. But someone said, in this climate, it's
- 39:17Speaker 2: so hard to be able to stick to your values.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Pay cuts right now are really tricky, so moving jobs
- 39:22Speaker 2: might not be the best decision for you. Someone else said, look,
- 39:26Speaker 2: for a job that aligns with your values, but don't
- 39:28Speaker 2: leave immediately with nothing to go to, and then someone
- 39:31Speaker 2: else is going to leave it here because I could
- 39:32Speaker 2: go on and on. Someone else said I resigned on
- 39:35Speaker 2: day one of a job once after finding out how
- 39:37Speaker 2: badly the owners of the company were neglecting the WHS,
- 39:41Speaker 2: which is basically the health and safety standards.
- 39:44Speaker 6: I see, I've got a good story. Just please pa.
- 39:48Speaker 6: I don't think it's for the air though. This is
- 39:49Speaker 6: an off air.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Take this up off air because unfortunately we have run
- 39:54Speaker 2: out of podcast time. It has been a pleasure as always.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I feel like that's a nice place to leave it
- 39:59Speaker 2: as well. Beck enjoy the rest of Sydney and Birthday week.
- 40:04Speaker 2: I can guarantee that we will have a Peter's ice
- 40:06Speaker 2: cream cake few next week because won't be me bringing it.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Jess will be bringing it to the table because I
- 40:11Speaker 2: know she doesn't want to miss out on it. And
- 40:13Speaker 2: for everybody else, have a great weekend. There's a special
- 40:16Speaker 2: little episode. It's a bonus coming out tomorrow for you,
- 40:19Speaker 2: and we'll also see you write in early on Monday
- 40:22Speaker 2: for a money diary, So see as soon, guys.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Bye guys, hye.
