- 1:09Speaker 2: welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast that makes
- 1:11Speaker 2: personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It is our favorite
- 1:15Speaker 2: day of the week because we get the team together
- 1:17Speaker 2: and celebrate you the incredible. She's on the Money community,
- 1:21Speaker 2: Miss Jess Gricci, She's here sharing our favorite money wins.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Miss beck Sayeed is sharing her broke tips, and we're
- 1:27Speaker 2: going to be helping to answer a money dilemma which
- 1:30Speaker 2: is all about managing money from a side hustle, which
- 1:33Speaker 2: I think is set up perfectly for you this week,
- 1:35Speaker 2: Beck and something you slid into our dams out wait
- 1:38Speaker 2: for it, whether your choice of partner is actually the
- 1:41Speaker 2: biggest financial decision you'll ever make. Anyway, I am excited
- 1:46Speaker 2: to talk about that one, because I don't know. A
- 1:48Speaker 2: man's not a financial plan, but could he be? How
- 1:51Speaker 2: are your wings? My week's think, quid.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I unfortunately caught the bug that seems to you're doing
- 1:56Speaker 3: the rounds.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I thought you were about to say I caught the bus,
- 2:01Speaker 2: so I'm sorry, Jess. That's so funny.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I can just imagine you look like watching you from
- 2:06Speaker 4: behind the bus, like you know, when the bus, kind.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Of like jumping just running for a bus too. Oh.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I've definitely running for a bus in my day. Absolutely
- 2:13Speaker 3: so funny. No call the bug that's been doing the
- 2:16Speaker 3: rounds this time of year, I think, which is a
- 2:17Speaker 3: bit unfortunate. I'm just spent the last couple of days
- 2:21Speaker 3: in bed, to be honest, but I've got a lot
- 2:22Speaker 3: of reading done, which was nice. A lot of sleepy
- 2:24Speaker 3: so productive.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Still confuses me. She messages me and goes, can I
- 2:30Speaker 2: please have a sick day? Sorry? I'm sorry. If you're
- 2:32Speaker 2: having a sick day, you don't ask your boss. You
- 2:34Speaker 2: tell your boss, you call your boss, or you text
- 2:37Speaker 2: your boss and say, hey, I'm not well, I am
- 2:40Speaker 2: not coming in. But miss jessical Riki is like, actually,
- 2:42Speaker 2: really sick? Would it be okay for I don't do work? Yes?
- 2:47Speaker 2: At what point are you going to learn?
- 2:49Speaker 3: And I know like you would also never say no,
- 2:51Speaker 3: but I just feel like the polite thing to do
- 2:53Speaker 3: is to ask.
- 2:54Speaker 2: That's a cute when you're like, yes, just take the day.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Ba.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, So do you need some memes? I may help.
- 3:03Speaker 2: That's so sweet, Chief memes ender. How's your way back? Well,
- 3:06Speaker 2: my week's been a little bit wild. Actually.
- 3:09Speaker 4: I was offered a literally just four weeks of work
- 3:12Speaker 4: at the ABC, which I've always wanted to work always. Yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 4: but I told my boss and she said, well, you
- 3:16Speaker 4: have to resign if you do that, And then I
- 3:17Speaker 4: was like, well it would be against your contract right
- 3:20Speaker 4: for another network it would, And so I don't have
- 3:23Speaker 4: any saying.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Apparently the opportunity was too good to say no to yes.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I don't have savings.
- 3:27Speaker 4: I don't have a job lined up after that. I
- 3:30Speaker 4: will be unemployed for sure come August eighth. But I
- 3:33Speaker 4: did resign me so much anxiety that is, okay.
- 3:37Speaker 3: We're manifesting. You're just going to slay your job so
- 3:40Speaker 3: hard to offer you a full.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Time surely you are going to run rings around it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I just know, no, love you, We love you, So
- 3:47Speaker 2: it just makes sense. It's so nice, thank you so much.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Oh my god, you guys so fingers crossed. Honestly, I
- 3:53Speaker 2: don't feel a single bit of stress about it. Maybe
- 3:55Speaker 2: it's just because it doesn't feel real yet. That's correct
- 3:57Speaker 2: when it happens, I might feel stressed. Else Chill, it's
- 4:01Speaker 2: so chill. I love that. So I actually feel really good.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's been a really good week. And what about UVD.
- 4:08Speaker 2: I have an extra needy dog today. Yeah, we do
- 4:12Speaker 2: video now. And I just think that I don't know
- 4:15Speaker 2: what's gotten into her. I think she just doesn't like
- 4:17Speaker 2: it's been raining a lot today. She just seems to
- 4:20Speaker 2: want to sit on me, and she keeps knocking my
- 4:23Speaker 2: mic out of my hands, and she doesn't have literally
- 4:26Speaker 2: no respect anyway, you can't see her. But like, just
- 4:28Speaker 2: imagine a dog, a very large dog, trying to sit
- 4:32Speaker 2: on my lap and also knock my mic around. Do
- 4:35Speaker 2: you know what, I'm not gonna lie. What do you
- 4:37Speaker 2: mean it's the new financial year? What do you mean
- 4:40Speaker 2: it is July? What do you mean We're in the
- 4:42Speaker 2: second half of the year. What do you mean we're
- 4:44Speaker 2: in third quarter? No, it's crazy. No, I want I
- 4:47Speaker 2: want to do again. I want to repeat. I just
- 4:50Speaker 2: the first six months flew by, and I feel like
- 4:52Speaker 2: it's only just started to hit me and like lame.
- 4:55Speaker 2: But like I had so many plans and I've done
- 4:57Speaker 2: none of them, haven't we all? We're all.
- 4:59Speaker 3: I feel like everyone's probably in the same boat on
- 5:01Speaker 3: that one.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm going to.
- 5:02Speaker 2: BALI so like there's something to look forward to. Cool, Yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 2: I know, right.
- 5:06Speaker 4: But then then it's almost the end of the year,
- 5:08Speaker 4: which means that you have the whole other year.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Next month is August, and August is basically December, and
- 5:12Speaker 2: December is basically twenty twenty six. It's almost Christmas time too,
- 5:20Speaker 2: you too need to calm down. And also it's probably
- 5:22Speaker 2: a good reminder that if you don't have your Christmas
- 5:25Speaker 2: savings account set up right now, now is the time.
- 5:29Speaker 2: That's a really good reminder.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I will be saving for Christmas and absolutely nothing else.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I'm excited. I'm so excited. I love my fair Speaking
- 5:38Speaker 2: of love, we had another five star review. Would you
- 5:41Speaker 2: guys like to hear it? Yes, okay, this one is
- 5:44Speaker 2: from Jess Great Name, five stars love. I'm a new list.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I can't believe I've only just come across you guys.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Now.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I'm absorbing every single episode and I'm taking notes too.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I love it with my new friend, treat name, great Name.
- 6:00Speaker 2: That's very Jest to take notes. I feel like Jess
- 6:05Speaker 2: would never turn any Jess would never turn up to
- 6:08Speaker 2: a meeting without a notebook like that's it's like a
- 6:11Speaker 2: poor personality trait. Yeah, if all have notebooks, you're all prepared.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And I don't think i've met a Jest that was mean.
- 6:18Speaker 4: No, I completely agree. I never met a chaotic, irresponsible Jess. No,
- 6:25Speaker 4: I've never met a chaotic Jess.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Never. Never. If you're a chaotic Jest, slight into my dear.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yes, I'm sure we're out there, absolutely all right.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Mister money, Wins and Confessions. What's the community got this week?
- 6:35Speaker 4: Alrighty.
- 6:35Speaker 3: First of this week, I've got one from Ashley who
- 6:37Speaker 3: said she had a Koala office chair that she wanted
- 6:40Speaker 3: to sell on Marketplace, but the guest lift broke. She
- 6:42Speaker 3: knew that it was still under warranty and that she'd
- 6:44Speaker 3: get more for it if she got that fixed, so
- 6:46Speaker 3: she sent Koala a message and was told they don't
- 6:49Speaker 3: make the chair anymore, so they can't send out the
- 6:51Speaker 3: spare part, but instead they'd come and collect it from
- 6:54Speaker 3: her and give her a full refund.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Sorry what so how good is that for?
- 6:58Speaker 3: So she got all her money back and didn't even
- 7:00Speaker 3: need to tell it a marketplace.
- 7:01Speaker 2: She sold it back to Kuala.
- 7:03Speaker 3: She literally sold it back to Koala.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I just want the amount that she purchased it for.
- 7:06Speaker 2: So basically she got a free chair. It broke, she
- 7:08Speaker 2: sent it back, got all her money back.
- 7:10Speaker 3: The definition of a money winner.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Is a good deal, honestly, that is. I feel like
- 7:14Speaker 2: in twenty twenty five, all I hear is like companies
- 7:16Speaker 2: with bad exchange policies, or like people who have really
- 7:20Speaker 2: bad refunds like No not Kwala.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Apparently we love it when a company looks after their people. Next,
- 7:25Speaker 3: I've got a money in from Beck who said money Win.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I've been wanting a dice an air rap for over
- 7:30Speaker 3: a year. Go I get it, and I've been looking
- 7:32Speaker 3: at all of the pros and cons and decided I
- 7:34Speaker 3: would most likely do it when I saw that it
- 7:36Speaker 3: came down on sale from eight hundred and forty nine
- 7:38Speaker 3: to five hundred and ninety six. She's been putting money aside. Yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 3: good deal, she said. She's also very into googling discount codes,
- 7:45Speaker 3: and you should be. She found an additional code brought
- 7:47Speaker 3: it down to five hundred dollars.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Okay, good deal.
- 7:50Speaker 3: She says she felt like a saving her three hundred
- 7:52Speaker 3: and forty nine dollars is pretty great for something she'll
- 7:54Speaker 3: use every week.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Adore. Well done.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Next, I've got money win from Belinda, who said, you
- 7:58Speaker 3: finally got herself one of those Baker's Delight too good
- 8:01Speaker 3: to go bags.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I really want to do that, but I haven't. I
- 8:04Speaker 2: haven't done it yet, and I also know that I
- 8:06Speaker 2: will eat absolutely everything in there, like I just know
- 8:09Speaker 2: that that I don't need it. Well, she gave us
- 8:11Speaker 2: little peak of what so.
- 8:13Speaker 3: She had one loaf of bread, six bread rolls, four
- 8:16Speaker 3: sweet scrolls, and two savory rolls much for nine nine nine?
- 8:20Speaker 1: No?
- 8:20Speaker 2: Absolutely, my god, like six rolls easy, you already got
- 8:25Speaker 2: your life. They're like more than a dollar nowadays, so
- 8:27Speaker 2: it's insane, or I think that's insane for some flour
- 8:31Speaker 2: and some seven dollars at least for a loaf of
- 8:33Speaker 2: bread from Bakers Toll. I'm sorry. Baker's delight, I do
- 8:35Speaker 2: love you. I love Bakings Talk. So they're TikTok girl.
- 8:41Speaker 2: They're like a social media manager. Her name's Madeline. I
- 8:43Speaker 2: don't know how to do because I follow them on TikTok. Anyway,
- 8:47Speaker 2: do you want to know more goss about Madeline? Any
- 8:49Speaker 2: I feel like I know her from I don't know when.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Maybe we are like you know those faces where you're like,
- 8:54Speaker 2: I know this girl, I reckon I worked with her
- 8:56Speaker 2: in retail at some point or did something. We've crossed pads. Anyway,
- 9:00Speaker 2: they're TikTok. They're hiring for her replacement because she's going
- 9:03Speaker 2: on maternity leave, and like, sorry, I'm so invested in
- 9:05Speaker 2: this replacement process. Baker's delight TikTok stillapps.
- 9:09Speaker 3: So good that I saw them making buns once. It
- 9:13Speaker 3: was delightful and they.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Have a new Sorry, they have a new This is
- 9:17Speaker 2: not sponsored by Baker's Life, but if you want to
- 9:19Speaker 2: be call me babe, like it could be the Baker's
- 9:22Speaker 2: Delight Money wins. They have a peach stone now and
- 9:28Speaker 2: it's frosted.
- 9:31Speaker 4: After this episode, which sweet because you know the like
- 9:35Speaker 4: the custard walnut.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yes, didn't so good and they do really good danishes. Anyway,
- 9:41Speaker 2: let's move on. They're literally not paying for this. I
- 9:44Speaker 2: should be next from Victoria, who said I great name.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I've also never met a Victoria, or I didn't It
- 9:50Speaker 2: is a Victoria with two teas. We've had a Beck
- 9:52Speaker 2: that wasn't you. We've had a Jess that wasn't you.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Now we've had a Victoria. And it's actually very fins
- 9:57Speaker 2: so self centered. I like this.
- 9:59Speaker 3: But Victoria said she went to buy some multi vitamins
- 10:01Speaker 3: from Chemist's warehouse. They were selling at their normal price
- 10:03Speaker 3: and a competitor had at cheap house, so she flagged
- 10:05Speaker 3: the cheaper price and they ended up charging her less
- 10:09Speaker 3: than what the competitor.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Had it because they percent, that does sound like something
- 10:12Speaker 2: I would do.
- 10:13Speaker 1: There you go.
- 10:14Speaker 4: It sounds like me had a cheap buzz in Chemi's warehouse.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I'm fine, I find that hard to bleed. Well, it's
- 10:19Speaker 2: all true. I'm going to need receipts.
- 10:22Speaker 3: And lastly, this week, I've got a money from Christine
- 10:24Speaker 3: who said she took her kids to Disney on Ice
- 10:25Speaker 3: on the weekend and they brought their own it is
- 10:28Speaker 3: but Christine said, no, no, no, we're bringing our own snacks,
- 10:31Speaker 3: our own drinks, and the kids were happy to just
- 10:33Speaker 3: pop the bubbles coming out of other kids ones. So
- 10:35Speaker 3: we didn't buy any of the merch. She said, they
- 10:37Speaker 3: avoided paying the mouse tacks and saved themselves hundreds.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Okay, I also have another hack because I'm on parenting ticks.
- 10:44Speaker 2: They came that one. They came up bubble wand is
- 10:47Speaker 2: like twelve dollars, whereas if you go to Disney or Ice,
- 10:50Speaker 2: apparently the bubble one's like fifty nine dollars. Are really
- 10:53Speaker 2: joking that a bubble wand extortion soapy water go. I
- 10:58Speaker 2: only have a one year old, so we're not at
- 10:59Speaker 2: the point where he peer pressures me into purchases yet.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I just know that we'll get this crazy No. So
- 11:07Speaker 2: Kmart has a bubble wand for those of you who
- 11:09Speaker 2: might be interested, that could also be a really good
- 11:11Speaker 2: present like Halfy's only one. Anytime I get bubbles.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Out, bubbles are fun chaos byot, that's crazy.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I love this those good money wins. Miss specs, yes,
- 11:24Speaker 2: tell me I can. What have you got? When it
- 11:26Speaker 2: comes to broke tips? And for those of you who
- 11:28Speaker 2: maybe missed it, we now have a broke tip thread
- 11:31Speaker 2: going live every single week in our Facebook group, where
- 11:34Speaker 2: Beck goes in and has a little bit of look
- 11:36Speaker 2: at your broke tear?
- 11:37Speaker 1: Do you?
- 11:38Speaker 2: But also so does everybody else?
- 11:40Speaker 3: And I want you to do that.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I want to love had all of them, but I'm
- 11:43Speaker 4: scared that I'll miss one, and so for that reason,
- 11:46Speaker 4: I don't.
- 11:47Speaker 2: And that's why I now no longer love heart people's comment.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Then you get off it, and then new comments happen,
- 11:51Speaker 2: and then people might think that yours didn't yeah exactly.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Or even just like sometimes you just randly miss one.
- 11:56Speaker 4: You're like, oh my god, this person might think why
- 11:58Speaker 4: didn't you? Like what if I come in on your
- 12:00Speaker 4: And then I'm like, oh my god, this is incredible.
- 12:02Speaker 4: But someone one hundred comments down said the same thing earlier.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I just get anxiety. I don't want
- 12:07Speaker 2: people to think that have got favorites. I don't. I
- 12:09Speaker 2: love you, I know, Okay.
- 12:12Speaker 4: So this first one comes from Jacinta, who said that
- 12:15Speaker 4: she did surveys on Pure Profile because she knew she
- 12:18Speaker 4: was running out of money for food.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I totally get it.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I've been there so many times, for every single day
- 12:22Speaker 4: of my life. She did enough to get twenty doll
- 12:24Speaker 4: about your fo woolies and bought stuff at twenty three dollars,
- 12:26Speaker 4: used the three dollars of her own money, and it
- 12:28Speaker 4: helped loto hate.
- 12:30Speaker 2: That's actually such a good broake tap. If you've got
- 12:32Speaker 2: no cash, if you can go to twenty bucks, ten bucks,
- 12:35Speaker 2: twenty dollars is twenty dollars.
- 12:37Speaker 4: I know, so pure Profile. I know we talked about surveys,
- 12:40Speaker 4: but I had not heard of this one before. So
- 12:42Speaker 4: I leased that one back in the day. I'll let
- 12:44Speaker 4: you they go, I know the other year. Otherwise it
- 12:46Speaker 4: was shutting down real quick. This next one comes from
- 12:50Speaker 4: Shiara I'm so sorry, I'm seeing your name incorrectly, who
- 12:53Speaker 4: says that she uses a massage gun. What she does
- 12:56Speaker 4: is she holds a massage gun to an almost empty bottle,
- 12:59Speaker 4: such as lotions, shampoos, et cetera.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Oh, it's like turbo shake, Yeah, turboshake.
- 13:04Speaker 4: And then actually after she sent me that, there's all
- 13:05Speaker 4: this like thing come up on my Instagram kind of
- 13:08Speaker 4: like literally doing that or someone doing that. It wasn't
- 13:11Speaker 4: like say, it wasn't just like that would have blown
- 13:13Speaker 4: me away, but it was not just sent up. It
- 13:16Speaker 4: was someone else that's on puberty the page, and she
- 13:20Speaker 4: put the massage gun to the lotion and it all
- 13:23Speaker 4: came out like it's not like down droops and drags,
- 13:25Speaker 4: it's like the whole thing. Well, it makes so much
- 13:28Speaker 4: left shaking.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Yeah, isn't that wild. See I don't own a massage gun. No,
- 13:33Speaker 2: I don't use a massage gun, and physically I have
- 13:36Speaker 2: no need for it. But I have, again going back
- 13:39Speaker 2: to TikTok, I have seen people use the massage gum
- 13:41Speaker 2: or using the vacuum in their car to like make
- 13:43Speaker 2: all of the dirt vibrate and then right, and I
- 13:48Speaker 2: just I've never wanted to try something more in my life.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Like so I love cleaning my car. In fact, this
- 13:54Speaker 2: is going to sound so lame and you know what,
- 13:56Speaker 2: a little bit out of touch, but I have a
- 13:58Speaker 2: car cleaning subscription to a car wash near my house,
- 14:01Speaker 2: which actually, because I do wash my car, I would
- 14:04Speaker 2: say it like every week. Yeah, it becomes like I
- 14:07Speaker 2: think it's like less than ten dollars a wash, and
- 14:09Speaker 2: like this is like a good wash and it includes
- 14:11Speaker 2: the vacuum, so like when it's like a self drive through,
- 14:15Speaker 2: like no touch, like car wash thing drives your car,
- 14:18Speaker 2: you drive out and it has the free air gun
- 14:20Speaker 2: and it has the free vacuum, so you can vacuum
- 14:22Speaker 2: to your heart's content. And I love that, but I
- 14:25Speaker 2: really need the massage gun for that. You can bever
- 14:27Speaker 2: in mind, thank you, but I don't know if you
- 14:29Speaker 2: want me putting it on the carpet of my car
- 14:32Speaker 2: after my dog's been in it.
- 14:33Speaker 3: We have a few in our house because I'm dating
- 14:34Speaker 3: a physio, so maybe we just have Well one can
- 14:36Speaker 3: become the designated Karma.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Car massage and beg, what have you got? So this
- 14:43Speaker 4: is something I noticed the other day. It was like,
- 14:44Speaker 4: well it wasn't the other day, but it was community
- 14:46Speaker 4: cup time.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You guys know community cup. I don't big thing in Melbourne, Wow,
- 14:50Speaker 2: not big enough for us. We have heard about it.
- 14:52Speaker 2: It was like we do live under a rock though
- 14:54Speaker 2: you were a much more social being than both just
- 14:57Speaker 2: and I combined.
- 14:58Speaker 4: It was it's quite, it was so so cold, it's overwhelming.
- 15:01Speaker 4: There's people everywhere, and everyone you've ever met will be
- 15:03Speaker 4: at this place. I mean it was in abspent, so
- 15:05Speaker 4: the first time I had gone, So I don't know
- 15:06Speaker 4: if it's always an ABOSPHD. But I popped in because
- 15:09Speaker 4: I was going to uber there. I didn't want to park.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I popped in the address for the park. I said
- 15:13Speaker 4: Victoria Park whatever, and then the uber was like twenty dollars.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I was like oh.
- 15:17Speaker 4: And then instead I zoomed all the way in and
- 15:20Speaker 4: I put an address that is across the road. It's
- 15:23Speaker 4: like eleven Louley Street or whatever. Yeah, fourteen dollars.
- 15:26Speaker 5: Oh, no way.
- 15:28Speaker 4: So I feel like and I have in fact checked this,
- 15:31Speaker 4: but I feel like, no, but that makes it's an
- 15:33Speaker 4: event or if it's a location like mcg or something
- 15:36Speaker 4: like that, then it'll automatically it does. It's like when
- 15:39Speaker 4: you go to the airport, Yes, like the airport tax
- 15:42Speaker 4: So if you put like, I don't know what addresses
- 15:44Speaker 4: around the airport, but you know, just give it a go.
- 15:46Speaker 4: I think if you're going to an event, if you're
- 15:48Speaker 4: going to a concert or something. Don't put the concert location,
- 15:50Speaker 4: don't put the arena or whatever. Put the exact address
- 15:53Speaker 4: across the street, or just an address close by that
- 15:55Speaker 4: you're happy to walk from they're happy to walk from,
- 15:57Speaker 4: or even the address of the stadium.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I haven't tried before. I reckon that wouldn't work. Maybe
- 16:02Speaker 2: not surely it would be associated, because I feel like
- 16:04Speaker 2: whenever I put an address in, it'll like auto correct
- 16:07Speaker 2: to the location name.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Yeah, true, true, ture true. I like your very very
- 16:12Speaker 4: thank you, thank you very much, so very smart. That's mine.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I love that.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I feel like that is very good. All right, let's
- 16:19Speaker 2: go to a really quick break because on the flip side,
- 16:21Speaker 2: I'm actually really excited about this. Our first question, I'm
- 16:24Speaker 2: excited about this, but like the second part juicy. But anyway,
- 16:28Speaker 2: the first one is our money dilemma, which is all
- 16:29Speaker 2: about managing money from a side hustle, which I think
- 16:32Speaker 2: is going to be really helpful. But the juicy one,
- 16:33Speaker 2: you guys slid into our dms and you want to
- 16:35Speaker 2: know whether your choice of partner is actually one of
- 16:38Speaker 2: the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make. Oh, I don't
- 16:42Speaker 2: think people are ready for that conversation. Anyway, We'll see
- 16:45Speaker 2: you right after the break.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 16:52Speaker 3: money dilemma.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 16:58Speaker 2: can't solve? The She's on the Mine team is here
- 17:01Speaker 2: to help. Every week, we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 17:04Speaker 2: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 17:07Speaker 2: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 17:10Speaker 2: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 17:12Speaker 2: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 17:15Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma. I just have a question.
- 17:21Speaker 5: I have a day job, but I also have a
- 17:24Speaker 5: side hustle, and I have both tums of income coming
- 17:27Speaker 5: into the same account at this point, separate accounts within
- 17:32Speaker 5: my bank, so they are separated, but I don't have
- 17:35Speaker 5: a different bank. My savings from my day job go
- 17:43Speaker 5: into a separate micro investing app which I use called Blossom.
- 17:48Speaker 5: But the savings or the earnings I make from my business,
- 17:53Speaker 5: I just don't know what to do with them, so
- 17:55Speaker 5: they're just sitting in the account that's holding them. So
- 17:58Speaker 5: I've got a couple of thousand dollars in there, just
- 18:00Speaker 5: sitting there and they're not earning any interest, they're not
- 18:03Speaker 5: doing anything. But I'm really hesitant to put them in
- 18:06Speaker 5: the same pool as my personal savings. For some reason,
- 18:10Speaker 5: I feel like they should be separate thing. And I
- 18:13Speaker 5: don't want to start something that isn't correct and isn't
- 18:17Speaker 5: going to help me out tax wise as well. But
- 18:21Speaker 5: I just don't know what to do or who to
- 18:22Speaker 5: ask around business questions. So if you could provide some light,
- 18:27Speaker 5: that would be amazing. Thank you so much.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Well girl, you've come to the right place. And I mean,
- 18:33Speaker 2: I'm not going to ask the two of you what
- 18:35Speaker 2: I would do because I think or what you should
- 18:37Speaker 2: do keep it separate. I'm sorry. If you have a
- 18:39Speaker 2: side hustle separate bank account, I don't want to see
- 18:42Speaker 2: it going into your go and register it as well,
- 18:45Speaker 2: like set it up as a separate business bank account,
- 18:48Speaker 2: because it's messy. Like let's say you're stupidly successful. You're
- 18:52Speaker 2: making your personal life harder, You're making your taxes harder,
- 18:55Speaker 2: like you don't know when you need to pay tax
- 18:58Speaker 2: on your side hustle income. Like Beck, this is at
- 19:01Speaker 2: you specifically, because guys, what's your business little shout out.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Beck has decided to go all in on her business recently,
- 19:09Speaker 2: and you've set up a whole website. You spent fourteen
- 19:11Speaker 2: dollars on a domain, and that is putting your money
- 19:13Speaker 2: where your mouth is.
- 19:15Speaker 4: What is the domain designed by becku dot com todau.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I'm obsessed and like I have commissioned a piece? Have
- 19:22Speaker 2: I actually commissioned a piece? Because I didn't pay for it,
- 19:25Speaker 2: I use it. It's still a gifted a piece. I said,
- 19:28Speaker 2: Oh my god, I've always wanted Okay, you're gonna love this.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I've always wanted one of those spoon rests. Yes, that
- 19:35Speaker 2: is actually a ravioli. Oh I've seen those are very
- 19:38Speaker 2: coch Yeah. So Beck made me one pink. It's pink
- 19:41Speaker 2: and lives on my shelf and I love her. But
- 19:45Speaker 2: very cute stuff. Anyway, we'll put the link in the
- 19:46Speaker 2: show notes because like girls supporting girls. Anyway, get a
- 19:52Speaker 2: separate bank account, Beck, if you don't have a separate
- 19:54Speaker 2: bank account for the money that you're making from your pottery, canceled, Like, Okay, no,
- 19:58Speaker 2: you're gonna go get a separate bank account. You don't
- 20:00Speaker 2: have to go and set up as a business. You
- 20:02Speaker 2: can still be a sole trader, but have it be
- 20:04Speaker 2: separate so that you can track the income coming in
- 20:07Speaker 2: and the income going out. It's going to make tax
- 20:09Speaker 2: time easier. It's going to make literally everything easier. You
- 20:11Speaker 2: can also track how much money of your personal money
- 20:14Speaker 2: needs to go in there, right because beck, I can
- 20:16Speaker 2: almost guarantee like you're pururchasing clay paints glazers with your
- 20:21Speaker 2: personal income, right, so transfer that money, like go all right,
- 20:25Speaker 2: well I'm going to go down to E cards or
- 20:27Speaker 2: whatever it is the craft store and purchase clay. You
- 20:30Speaker 2: can track how much you've transferred to that account and
- 20:33Speaker 2: see how much has been going in versus coming out,
- 20:35Speaker 2: and then all the profits going to that and it's
- 20:37Speaker 2: just it's going to be clean, right, Yeah, it's going
- 20:39Speaker 2: to be clean. Yeah. Do you have any other tips
- 20:42Speaker 2: for small business when it comes to the banking side
- 20:44Speaker 2: of things?
- 20:46Speaker 4: Well, personally to start as this question does come at
- 20:48Speaker 4: a really good time, so thank you very much. I mean,
- 20:53Speaker 4: I don't know if this is the same situation, but
- 20:55Speaker 4: I use I'm using Stripe, which I think is like
- 20:59Speaker 4: is that right?
- 20:59Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Stripe or you u stripe? Oh my god? The payment system.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Okay, that's so companty because I was like, I don't
- 21:05Speaker 4: know what this text me ask me, Oh my god, true, I.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Don't know why I'm not doing this. And it's not
- 21:12Speaker 2: even that I know, it's that like I was born
- 21:15Speaker 2: to yap. Yeah, and like also research, so if I
- 21:18Speaker 2: don't know, girl, you best believe I'm a fine out.
- 21:22Speaker 4: So that, but that's not the same, hey, because I
- 21:23Speaker 4: can see what's coming in, I can't see what's going out.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Obviously that's more like bank account, but that that is
- 21:28Speaker 4: helpful for incoming. But you're saying, like, get a whole
- 21:32Speaker 4: new bank account for this particular side hustle.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Understood it, understood, Okay, that's good to know. And then
- 21:38Speaker 2: just like name it like your business name. So everything
- 21:41Speaker 2: is just really clean, really fresh, easy, because at one
- 21:44Speaker 2: point it's going to tip over being a hobby and
- 21:46Speaker 2: like a tiny side hustle to being something that you
- 21:49Speaker 2: need to pay tax on, and hopefully at some point
- 21:51Speaker 2: you're going to need to pay GST on and you know,
- 21:53Speaker 2: really scale it. But you don't want to have that
- 21:55Speaker 2: be mixed up with your personal income and other jobs
- 21:58Speaker 2: that you're doing on the side to pass time more,
- 22:00Speaker 2: you know, put money and food on the table right, totally,
- 22:03Speaker 2: just keep it separate, right totally. Also interesting side note, Beck,
- 22:08Speaker 2: while we were listening to that, you guys probably didn't hear.
- 22:11Speaker 2: In perfect synchronicity, Jess and I made the sound ah
- 22:17Speaker 2: when our listener question mentioned the Blossom app. I was
- 22:22Speaker 2: curious about that. You were like, why are you two v.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Now?
- 22:27Speaker 2: Jess, We've had some conversations historically on air and off
- 22:33Speaker 2: air about Blossom app. Is the app badge?
- 22:37Speaker 4: No?
- 22:38Speaker 2: Is the apple legitimate? Yes is some of the marketing misleading?
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yes is how I feel now. Blossom app is an
- 22:46Speaker 2: app and our money diarist or sorry, not even our
- 22:48Speaker 2: money direst our listener question literally said, I'm using it
- 22:51Speaker 2: to invest Iconic. You are using it to invest. But
- 22:54Speaker 2: if we go to the website and I'm on the
- 22:56Speaker 2: website right now, Jess and Beck and I feel like
- 22:59Speaker 2: this would get Beck like in the nicest possible way. No, No,
- 23:02Speaker 2: because you just take people for their word. I'm already
- 23:05Speaker 2: and you already like, and it's not because you're silly,
- 23:07Speaker 2: it's just because you are an average consumer.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Well, and the listener said that they're putting their savings
- 23:12Speaker 3: in BLOSSOMUS, Yeah, which is very relevant.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yes, So like Beck, have you heard of Blossom app?
- 23:17Speaker 2: I haven't. Let me read you the marketing and you
- 23:19Speaker 2: can tell me what it is, okay, right, So Blossom
- 23:22Speaker 2: where your savings go to grow. You can get between
- 23:25Speaker 2: a five point four five and six point five per
- 23:29Speaker 2: annum targeted return. Join thousands of Australians who have discovered
- 23:34Speaker 2: a new, healthier way to save your money. Your way,
- 23:38Speaker 2: no account, feest healthy returns. You're doing well. Their product
- 23:43Speaker 2: is called Blossom Save and it gives you freedom and
- 23:46Speaker 2: flexibility whilst you save. What is this product?
- 23:49Speaker 4: I would say it's a very high interest savings account.
- 23:54Speaker 2: No No, And that's where Jess and I are probably
- 24:00Speaker 2: not that comfortable with it. It is an investment. It
- 24:03Speaker 2: is an investment platform and they invest your money for
- 24:06Speaker 2: long term returns. That's why they can target such high
- 24:10Speaker 2: five point four five and six point five percent return.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Right now in this current economy, a savings account is
- 24:17Speaker 2: not going to get you that. So you might look
- 24:18Speaker 2: at it and be like far out, like that's why
- 24:21Speaker 2: And I mean it in the nicest possible way. And
- 24:22Speaker 2: I know people have messaged me before and they've been like,
- 24:25Speaker 2: why do you say things like that why you mean
- 24:27Speaker 2: to Beck. I'm not mean to Beck. No, he's my
- 24:29Speaker 2: normal consumer. She is my friend. I think she's so smart.
- 24:33Speaker 2: But like, I just know you'd read this, and like,
- 24:36Speaker 2: but you and I both know you're never going to
- 24:38Speaker 2: read the PDS. You don't scroll to the bottom and
- 24:39Speaker 2: click the PDS.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I do.
- 24:41Speaker 2: And it's an investment platform. It's also targeted returns.
- 24:44Speaker 3: It's not guaranteed, so they can say, yeah, we're aiming
- 24:46Speaker 3: for that, but if they return is less as far
- 24:50Speaker 3: as I know, no accountability.
- 24:52Speaker 2: They are an investment fund, and like if you go
- 24:55Speaker 2: into the PDS, it says the target rate of the
- 24:57Speaker 2: annual return from investments retain in the fund is not
- 25:01Speaker 2: guaranteed and no assurance is given that the target rate
- 25:04Speaker 2: will be achieved for any time the investment is held
- 25:08Speaker 2: in the fund. I'm targeting two returns a fart. But
- 25:12Speaker 2: I think if we then use the average consumers experience
- 25:16Speaker 2: right and go Your experience with savings accounts is that
- 25:20Speaker 2: if they say they return three percent, they return three percent, right,
- 25:23Speaker 2: So when you will read out all of this marketing,
- 25:26Speaker 2: and I said, where your savings go to grow? And
- 25:28Speaker 2: you're going to get four point four to five. I
- 25:31Speaker 2: think you skimmed over the word targeted, didn't you. I did.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I thought targeted maybe is like they're purposely doing something yep,
- 25:39Speaker 4: and then that's yea.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And then I doubled down and I gave you the
- 25:42Speaker 2: next line, literally scrolling on the homepage, which says, joined
- 25:45Speaker 2: thousands of Aussies who have discovered a new, healthier way
- 25:48Speaker 2: to save. I'm sorry that is not saving if you
- 25:51Speaker 2: are investing your money and there is risk involved. I
- 25:54Speaker 2: am so fine with your platform, Like, there is not
- 25:57Speaker 2: anything wrong structurally, your money's not at more risk than
- 26:01Speaker 2: any other type of investing platform. But call a stick
- 26:04Speaker 2: a stick.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't like that because I think, yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 3: listening to our listener's voicemail, they even said, you know,
- 26:10Speaker 3: my savings are in this platform, and it kind of
- 26:13Speaker 3: makes me go, well do you. You know, typically we
- 26:15Speaker 3: say don't invest your savings if you plan on having
- 26:18Speaker 3: access to them any time soon, and we don't have
- 26:20Speaker 3: this CEM one. But I think the language can be
- 26:24Speaker 3: very confusing, and as you said, like it's something they've
- 26:28Speaker 3: changed it.
- 26:29Speaker 2: You know, it's been a few years that this platforms
- 26:31Speaker 2: been around them. I've spoken to their owner. I've spoken
- 26:34Speaker 2: to their founder, I've had these conversations. They've invited me
- 26:38Speaker 2: to Sydney to have conversations with them, and I basically said, like,
- 26:42Speaker 2: so happy to continue the conversation, but anything that you
- 26:45Speaker 2: say surely can be put on paper for me to understand, Like,
- 26:48Speaker 2: surely you can put it in an email and articulate
- 26:51Speaker 2: yourself in a way that makes sense, because if you can't,
- 26:53Speaker 2: to me, that doesn't feel right. And so I don't know.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I just I think when you look at the like
- 26:59Speaker 2: risk return like chart and we're looking at different investment options,
- 27:04Speaker 2: there's like you know, savings accounts and then there's bonds.
- 27:07Speaker 2: This is more risky than both of those things. Yes,
- 27:10Speaker 2: it's not the same risk that you carry as putting
- 27:13Speaker 2: your money into the Australian Stock Exchange. It's slightly less.
- 27:16Speaker 2: But I think that they're trying to align with their
- 27:19Speaker 2: marketing to being a savings account, which if you as
- 27:23Speaker 2: a consumer, are like, oh I don't want to invest
- 27:26Speaker 2: yess I'm too like I'm a bit adverse for that.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Oh I don't know about a bond. But then you
- 27:31Speaker 2: see this marketing you might go, oh, well that's for
- 27:33Speaker 2: me because it's where your savings go to grow. And
- 27:36Speaker 2: the language is comforting, and I think that that. I
- 27:39Speaker 2: feel like they're doing everything right from a compliance perspective
- 27:44Speaker 2: in terms of their actual product, but when it comes
- 27:46Speaker 2: to the marketing, I just go, I'm sorry. This is
- 27:49Speaker 2: why the investment industry is so confusing. That is why
- 27:51Speaker 2: so many people are like, wait, that's an investment, but
- 27:54Speaker 2: there's this isn't. But yeah, like, if you want a
- 27:57Speaker 2: good high interest savings account, a road a hole blog
- 27:59Speaker 2: on it, check it out, check it out. I'll put
- 28:02Speaker 2: all of the good links in the show notes for
- 28:05Speaker 2: our most recent savings account thing, because like I think
- 28:08Speaker 2: every six months or so I do a blog or
- 28:10Speaker 2: the team actually all put together a blog on the
- 28:12Speaker 2: best high interest savings accounts in Australia so that you
- 28:15Speaker 2: guys can do it without any like hoops or anything
- 28:17Speaker 2: to jump through because you know how sometimes there's like
- 28:20Speaker 2: minimum deposits or whatever. Anyway, none of that. I could
- 28:23Speaker 2: go on and on, but I just think you guys
- 28:26Speaker 2: deserve transparency and maybe potentially allegedly that company is not
- 28:31Speaker 2: giving you that, and that just doesn't see it right.
- 28:34Speaker 3: With me.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Anyway. That's a little bit of the tea, but do
- 28:40Speaker 2: you want more tea? Absolutely?
- 28:41Speaker 1: Right?
- 28:42Speaker 2: So this week we had a listener dam and you
- 28:43Speaker 2: know what a little bit more juicy than what we're
- 28:45Speaker 2: just talking about. Ready, okay, Hi, she's on the money.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I keep seeing money influences say your partner is the
- 28:52Speaker 2: biggest financial decision you'll ever make. But I didn't even
- 28:55Speaker 2: think about that at all when I fell in love.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Emotionally the relationship is solid, but financially we are not
- 29:02Speaker 2: on the same page. And the more I notice that,
- 29:04Speaker 2: the harder it is to unsee. I listen to the
- 29:07Speaker 2: money diaries, so I know people can change, But lately
- 29:10Speaker 2: I've been wondering if this is something I should take
- 29:13Speaker 2: more seriously. Then I feel really guilty, like am I
- 29:16Speaker 2: being too shallow or too focused on money? I wasn't
- 29:19Speaker 2: like this before, but now I don't know if I'm
- 29:22Speaker 2: overthinking or finally waking up. What would you do?
- 29:25Speaker 1: Oh?
- 29:27Speaker 4: This is tugging at my heart shrinks because as the
- 29:31Speaker 4: I mean, they didn't say, this person didn't say, but
- 29:33Speaker 4: I can only assume that they're they're the more responsible
- 29:35Speaker 4: one with money and their partner might not be. And
- 29:37Speaker 4: I am the partner that is not. My girlfriend justs
- 29:40Speaker 4: is very unhappy that I quit my job for a
- 29:42Speaker 4: full week opportunity.
- 29:44Speaker 2: And I don't know why. That's crazy. I know it's crazy.
- 29:47Speaker 2: She's crazy. I'm just kidding. No, that's very very valid.
- 29:50Speaker 4: But I think that before her, I've always been a
- 29:52Speaker 4: little bit like risk taking. I don't care if I'm
- 29:55Speaker 4: living Pachrick paycheck. I don't care if I'm broke. I
- 29:57Speaker 4: honestly don't mind. And so feel like maybe depending on
- 30:00Speaker 4: where your partner is coming from and how they've lived before,
- 30:03Speaker 4: and if they always get back on their feet and
- 30:06Speaker 4: if they don't rely on other people around them, then
- 30:11Speaker 4: at this moment.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Totally fine. I think that. So I can, like I
- 30:15Speaker 2: can totally understand it.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Some people don't work in this way where they're thinking
- 30:18Speaker 4: about money and they thinking about savings and they have
- 30:21Speaker 4: this intrinsic like just motivation to save for a future.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Some people just do not have that.
- 30:27Speaker 1: I do not have that.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I can't be taught to have that in me. I can't.
- 30:32Speaker 2: I will just do it because I hell nose.
- 30:34Speaker 4: I've tried exactly like I mean, for like three years now,
- 30:37Speaker 4: like I just.
- 30:38Speaker 2: And like you know, and I know I think that
- 30:41Speaker 2: that's what's kind of so cool about Cheese on the
- 30:42Speaker 2: money side step is that, like, you are so different
- 30:46Speaker 2: to Jess and Die and it's not a negative or
- 30:49Speaker 2: a positive, it's just who you are, and like that's
- 30:51Speaker 2: a cool thing. But we've got so many diverse people
- 30:53Speaker 2: in our community. Some might be like Jess and literally
- 30:56Speaker 2: stockpile every cent. Someone be a little bit more like me,
- 30:58Speaker 2: who I take risky decisions, but I'm also relatively financially
- 31:02Speaker 2: like stable when I make those decisions, and I'm always
- 31:04Speaker 2: calculating everything, And then there might be people like you, Beck,
- 31:08Speaker 2: And I don't want people to think that there's only
- 31:09Speaker 2: one way to manage finance. Yeah, totally, as long as
- 31:12Speaker 2: you are educated and have the knowledge and the tools
- 31:15Speaker 2: and the resources, and I've given it to you on
- 31:16Speaker 2: a silver platter. I don't care how you use them. Like, yes,
- 31:19Speaker 2: in a perfect world, i'd love Beck to budget. Oh
- 31:21Speaker 2: my god, like my life would be made. But at
- 31:24Speaker 2: the end of the day, you're an adult, and I
- 31:26Speaker 2: respect your decisions because you're an adult. But like, I
- 31:29Speaker 2: think that everybody deserves access to those tools. And if
- 31:32Speaker 2: you didn't have access and you're in a really shitty
- 31:35Speaker 2: financial position because you hadn't been given an education. That's
- 31:38Speaker 2: not fair. Yes, but now you're making decisions and you're like, well,
- 31:41Speaker 2: I know I could do this all that you've made
- 31:43Speaker 2: the decision that's right for you, Yes, the decision that's
- 31:45Speaker 2: right for society.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Totally, totally, I completely agree. And so I guess in
- 31:48Speaker 4: saying that right now, it comes down to if your
- 31:52Speaker 4: partner is I guess in any it doesn't even know
- 31:55Speaker 4: if it's finances or anything, like, if you're dating someone
- 31:57Speaker 4: who never cooks, never cleans, never does any like holds
- 32:00Speaker 4: any of the mental load, I feel like it's not
- 32:02Speaker 4: the exact same, but it feels like if your partner's
- 32:04Speaker 4: willing to change to help you and your future together,
- 32:08Speaker 4: regardless of what it is. Maybe they hate cleaning, but
- 32:11Speaker 4: they just have to do it. Maybe they hate saving,
- 32:14Speaker 4: or they just don't know how to do it, but
- 32:15Speaker 4: they just have to do it. It's like that's a
- 32:17Speaker 4: complete different situation their relationship with money. Because I'm on
- 32:21Speaker 4: the other end, I understand that some people just don't
- 32:23Speaker 4: have that and don't live like that. But I will
- 32:26Speaker 4: commit to saving for a future with my partner because
- 32:30Speaker 4: that's what's in the cards, and so I feel like
- 32:32Speaker 4: that's probably more the conversation. And if your partner is
- 32:35Speaker 4: willing to just do it, even if they hate it too,
- 32:39Speaker 4: also give them some objective, something to work with, something tangible,
- 32:42Speaker 4: be like, if we save this amount, this is what
- 32:45Speaker 4: our future will look like, because otherwise it's just invisible
- 32:47Speaker 4: and it's just like there's no motivation to do that.
- 32:48Speaker 4: But anyway, so I think that's probably the conversation I
- 32:51Speaker 4: would be thinking about. If that makes sense, What do
- 32:53Speaker 4: you reckon?
- 32:54Speaker 3: Yes, I think the saying you know your partner is
- 32:56Speaker 3: the biggest financial decision or whatever it is it comes from.
- 32:59Speaker 3: I yes, that that concept of like you're the sum
- 33:02Speaker 3: of the people you spend the most time with. I
- 33:04Speaker 3: think it's like the seven people closest to you kind
- 33:06Speaker 3: of form your core personality traits or something like that.
- 33:09Speaker 3: There's some psychological study, I think, because your partner, assuming
- 33:14Speaker 3: you know, a traditional relationship where you eventually are building
- 33:17Speaker 3: towards a life together, they're the person who spend the
- 33:19Speaker 3: most time with, your life is so interlinked with them
- 33:21Speaker 3: in terms of your finances. If you choose to have
- 33:24Speaker 3: children or maybe own property, or save towards other important
- 33:27Speaker 3: goals for you. Guys, your lives are so intertwined that
- 33:31Speaker 3: their take on money has a really significant impact on you,
- 33:36Speaker 3: regardless of how you each manage it, and so I
- 33:39Speaker 3: think that concept is kind of reflecting on the fact
- 33:43Speaker 3: that it can maybe cause friction. I think in your
- 33:46Speaker 3: relationship if you have two people, particularly if someone isn't
- 33:49Speaker 3: willing to do as you are back you know, you've said,
- 33:51Speaker 3: you know, I acknowledge that I'm not great with money,
- 33:53Speaker 3: but I will work towards goals because that's what my
- 33:57Speaker 3: relationship needs to progress forward. Not every body is able
- 34:00Speaker 3: to draw that light in the sand, I suppose and
- 34:02Speaker 3: make that decision. I think at the same time as well,
- 34:06Speaker 3: if someone doesn't match your energy, if you're the person
- 34:10Speaker 3: who is let's say more aspirational, if you have high
- 34:13Speaker 3: savings goals, or if you have big goals for your
- 34:16Speaker 3: life in general, even outside of money, if your energy
- 34:19Speaker 3: isn't being matched by your partner, it can sometimes take
- 34:22Speaker 3: the wind out of your sales a little bit and
- 34:24Speaker 3: hold you back because you're maybe working to accommodate there more.
- 34:29Speaker 3: And that's not a bad thing, like compromise is important
- 34:31Speaker 3: in any relationship, but At the same time, I think
- 34:34Speaker 3: like you also need to acknowledge that, you know, if
- 34:37Speaker 3: two people go okay, well, regardless of how good we
- 34:40Speaker 3: are with money or what we want to do, we're
- 34:42Speaker 3: going to find a way to make our dreams work.
- 34:43Speaker 3: Like that is very powerful as opposed to maybe one
- 34:47Speaker 3: person being like, oh, I want to do this, I
- 34:49Speaker 3: want to do that, and the other person being like, oh,
- 34:50Speaker 3: it'd be nice, but we can never do it. It's
- 34:53Speaker 3: almost like psychological beyond just the actual financial stuff. But
- 34:58Speaker 3: I feel like you're going to explain that a little
- 34:59Speaker 3: bit of me because I feel.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Like I would, No, you're not. I mean, if I
- 35:04Speaker 2: look at my situation, my husband and I got together
- 35:07Speaker 2: and when we were just dating, we're both in personal debt,
- 35:10Speaker 2: we both had personal loans, we both weren't good at money,
- 35:12Speaker 2: and we have learnt together what that means and what
- 35:15Speaker 2: our values are. And I'm just I would say, very
- 35:18Speaker 2: lucky to have obviously met someone have fallen in love
- 35:21Speaker 2: with madly want all these babies ten out of ten,
- 35:24Speaker 2: but also somebody who has the same values and goals
- 35:29Speaker 2: and like, I guess lifestyle aspirations that I have, because
- 35:32Speaker 2: that could have been really hard, and I'm not in
- 35:33Speaker 2: that position. But I mean, if you take a really
- 35:36Speaker 2: big step back, the idea of marrying for love is
- 35:38Speaker 2: actually really modern. If we look at history, we actually
- 35:42Speaker 2: married for money. We married, I guess more specifically for survival.
- 35:46Speaker 2: We married for status, We married for strategic advantage. Families
- 35:51Speaker 2: negotiated marriages based on what they could get out of it,
- 35:55Speaker 2: like these idle women. No not, yeah, little women do
- 35:58Speaker 2: you can't what is it? You can't tell me? Married
- 36:00Speaker 2: is not an economic proposition exactly, it absolutely is. And
- 36:03Speaker 2: I mean for much of history, marriage was less about
- 36:06Speaker 2: romance and more about alliances between families and safely transferring
- 36:10Speaker 2: wealth and securing land or you know, ensuring a social
- 36:14Speaker 2: standing or social status, and like that's just the logic
- 36:18Speaker 2: of it. Like romance is a privilege. Love was a bonus,
- 36:20Speaker 2: but not a requirement. And I think if we go
- 36:24Speaker 2: back to that, I'm not saying that that's a good idea.
- 36:26Speaker 2: That was all about survival. Now, sorry, we're staunch feminists.
- 36:30Speaker 2: I can go get my own job and I can
- 36:31Speaker 2: choose to marry for love, and then it does come
- 36:34Speaker 2: into it, because you're right, somebody could take the wind
- 36:36Speaker 2: out of your sales if they're not in the same
- 36:38Speaker 2: situation as you, And I think I mean to be
- 36:41Speaker 2: really brutal. Yes, in many ways, marrying for your choice
- 36:46Speaker 2: of partner is the biggest financial decision you'll make. And
- 36:48Speaker 2: I saw a TikTok the other day. I feel like
- 36:50Speaker 2: all I do is talk about TikTok and a woman said, oh, girl,
- 36:54Speaker 2: all mental disappoint you, just marry for money, because at
- 36:57Speaker 2: least you'll be happy with what outcome happens. And I'm
- 37:01Speaker 2: not saying that's a good idea because a man is
- 37:02Speaker 2: not a financial plan, but literally, the person that you
- 37:05Speaker 2: marry affects everything from how you manage money day to
- 37:08Speaker 2: day to how you plan for your lifetime goals, for
- 37:11Speaker 2: how you go on holidays, for how you plan on
- 37:13Speaker 2: raising kids and buying a home, and like what does
- 37:16Speaker 2: retirement look like? And having a partner that shares your
- 37:19Speaker 2: values and is able to communicate openly and honestly with
- 37:22Speaker 2: you and respects your financial boundaries, I think can help
- 37:25Speaker 2: you build a secure financial future. So maybe I'm a
- 37:28Speaker 2: little bit more savage. Maybe I've just unfortunately seen one
- 37:31Speaker 2: too many divorces come through my financial advice doors. When
- 37:34Speaker 2: I was an advisor that I am quite negative about marriage.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Am I married?
- 37:39Speaker 1: Yes?
- 37:40Speaker 2: Am I in love with my husband? Absolutely? Yes? Am
- 37:42Speaker 2: I lucky that we're on the same financial page? Yes?
- 37:45Speaker 2: But I think that constantly fighting about money and constantly
- 37:49Speaker 2: feeling alone in that that's not worth it. Yeah, Like,
- 37:52Speaker 2: because if you don't feel like you're supported, I'm sorry,
- 37:54Speaker 2: it's no longer about finances anymore. If you don't feel
- 37:57Speaker 2: supported full stop, you're in a marriage that's not going
- 37:59Speaker 2: to work. It's like the finance is almost just a
- 38:02Speaker 2: small element of love. Is so important. Love is like
- 38:07Speaker 2: to me, it is so important, But so is financial compatibility.
- 38:10Speaker 2: And I just I'm sorry, I'm so negative about that.
- 38:13Speaker 2: And they're going to be people who go it doesn't matter,
- 38:15Speaker 2: like I would work my life away from my partner. Amazing,
- 38:18Speaker 2: you're actually financially compatible.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but exactly like you, right the example Beck was giving.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Yeah, So, like, financial compatibility doesn't mean fifty to fifty. Yeah,
- 38:28Speaker 2: that's not what the default is. Financial compatibility means you're
- 38:32Speaker 2: both happy with what you contribute, and you're both happy
- 38:34Speaker 2: with how that works and what that looks like and
- 38:35Speaker 2: the lifestyle you achieved from that. Yeah. But if you're
- 38:38Speaker 2: not on the same page. I just don't see how
- 38:39Speaker 2: it's gonna work out long term. Sorry, by what did
- 38:42Speaker 2: everybody else say? Okay, so the rest of the community
- 38:44Speaker 2: or juicy? So we did ask a few questions. First, First,
- 38:47Speaker 2: we said, do you think who you choose as a
- 38:49Speaker 2: partner is your biggest financial decision? Surprisingly, twenty eight percent
- 38:54Speaker 2: of you said yes, interesting, sixty nine percent of you
- 38:57Speaker 2: said it's just one piece of the puzzle, and three
- 38:59Speaker 2: percent said money is separate. Then we asked, can a
- 39:02Speaker 2: relationship work if you're on different pages financially? Seventy two
- 39:07Speaker 2: percent of you said it can, but it is very
- 39:09Speaker 2: hard work. Seventeen percent of you said it's a time bomb.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Seven percent of you said yes, love is the most
- 39:15Speaker 2: important part in four percent said no, red flag interesting,
- 39:19Speaker 2: very interesting. And then I asked the community. I said, girl,
- 39:22Speaker 2: what's your two cents? And did you have four cents?
- 39:26Speaker 2: First person said, give it time and see if you
- 39:28Speaker 2: can get on the same page before making any big
- 39:30Speaker 2: financial decisions. Next person said, you don't want to be
- 39:33Speaker 2: the one with money ready for a holiday with someone
- 39:35Speaker 2: who can't go anywhere. Next person said, communication and education,
- 39:40Speaker 2: that is what I have learnt from She's on the Money,
- 39:42Speaker 2: and I love explaining what I've learned from She's on
- 39:44Speaker 2: the Money to my partner. Oh how many times does
- 39:47Speaker 2: this come back down to? Is communication? Next person said,
- 39:51Speaker 2: you can have different mindsets, but if you can't talk
- 39:54Speaker 2: about it like mature adults red flag.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Emoji, that's a big one. The communication, like the level
- 39:59Speaker 3: of communit. Yeah.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Next person said, I ended a marriage after only four
- 40:04Speaker 2: months due to different financial pages. It was a time
- 40:07Speaker 2: bomb waiting to burst. Next person said, I have separate
- 40:10Speaker 2: accounts of the line with my goals, as does my partner,
- 40:13Speaker 2: as we don't always agree on the financial side of things. Interesting.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Next person, and this is the last one that I'm
- 40:20Speaker 2: going to share, said, dating in twenty twenty five is cooked.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Keep them if they are a good egg.
- 40:24Speaker 3: I mean, it's tough out from what I've heard from
- 40:27Speaker 3: the girls, So that's all the same.
- 40:29Speaker 2: It is tough. But I do think being on the
- 40:31Speaker 2: same financial page is going to reduce friction in your relationship,
- 40:35Speaker 2: like and I'm just all about not having a friction relationship.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Like it's some people are meant to be some people aren't,
- 40:41Speaker 2: and that's fine. I don't ruber up. I think would
- 40:44Speaker 2: you rather cry in a Corolla or a Lamborghini.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Just the last thing I want to say is that
- 40:51Speaker 4: do be mindful that some people have like really like
- 40:54Speaker 4: you know, this privileged scene, like some people didn't grow
- 40:56Speaker 4: up with much money, and it's like anxiety and chat
- 41:00Speaker 4: to have. And also that's something you read.
- 41:03Speaker 2: You can be on the same page financially with someone
- 41:05Speaker 2: who has the money. That's so true. You can be
- 41:07Speaker 2: on the same page, read somebody. It doesn't mean that
- 41:10Speaker 2: you have millions. Like we're not talking about needing to
- 41:13Speaker 2: become a millionaire family. We're just talking about are you
- 41:17Speaker 2: spending in line with your goals and values? Are you
- 41:19Speaker 2: achieving the life that you want? Because like, can you
- 41:22Speaker 2: imagine Beck if your partner was like, well, I want
- 41:25Speaker 2: you to save every single dollar because we need to
- 41:27Speaker 2: have six million dollars invested by the time we get here,
- 41:29Speaker 2: and you literally couldn't care less about that, and that
- 41:32Speaker 2: was all they cared about. They just cared about the money.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Like maybe they should go be with someone who makes
- 41:37Speaker 2: more money and cares more about money and that would
- 41:39Speaker 2: make them happier, like totally, and that's not the case.
- 41:42Speaker 2: So like, no to be on the same page financially
- 41:45Speaker 2: with someone doesn't mean you even if I have a dollar.
- 41:47Speaker 2: In fact, my husband and I both started in debt
- 41:50Speaker 2: and we're still on the same page. Yeah, and that's okay. Anyway,
- 41:54Speaker 2: it's okay. I think that's all we've got time for today,
- 41:56Speaker 2: my babies. Yes, I think so as gorgeous place to
- 41:58Speaker 2: leave it. Yeah, I see you on Monday for money,
- 42:00Speaker 2: diries and have a good weekend, babe, by guys bye.
