Latest / The Third Thing / S2E22: Astrology & Friendship Compatibility (pt 2): Generational Placements
Transcript
- 0:00Michelle: Welcome to part two of our astrology and friendship episode.
- 0:04Michelle: If you didn't listen to part one, why don't you go ahead and jump back?
- 0:09Michelle: Because we really get into your natal chart and the thesis of the episode around how looking at astrology between friends can be a sort of language for understanding each other, communicating better, and also a lot of fun.
- 0:25Michelle: I highly recommend listening to that first part before you jump in here, and we'll just get right into it.
- 0:32Danyelle: Alright.
- 0:33Danyelle: This is one of our longer episodes, but I'm so here for it.
- 0:37Danyelle: Yeah.
- 0:37Danyelle: Okay, so I want to hit on two placements that all of us experience.
- 0:43Danyelle: We all have a planet in Chiron, which is actually a meteor.
- 0:49Danyelle: It is not a planet, but it is called the Wounded Healer.
- 0:53Danyelle: And folks who are born between June of 1983 and June of 1988 all have Chiron and Gemini.
- 1:02Danyelle: There are replacements that are called generational, which again, it's going to impact everybody within those dates of birth in a similar way.
- 1:11Danyelle: And so for us, having that shared experience of what our core wounding is and then how we go about healing.
- 1:18Danyelle: So for Gemini, the core wound is our voice being heard, being listened to.
- 1:25Danyelle: I think oftentimes I will say, like, does that make sense?
- 1:28Danyelle: Not because I don't think the other person can understand, but because I feel so deeply not articulate.
- 1:41Danyelle: I think about that visual of like the squiggly lines.
- 1:45Danyelle: Yeah, coming out.
- 1:46Danyelle: Yeah.
- 1:47Michelle: Like pulling it out.
- 1:48Michelle: I like this too because it's hard to imagine an entire generation being in the same placement.
- 1:55Michelle: But when you think of Gen X, well, boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and now Gen Z, you can really see where those threads are coming through.
- 2:06Danyelle: Yeah.
- 2:07Danyelle: Really interesting.
- 2:08Danyelle: So I was recently reading about Gen X, and there, Chiron is in Taurus, some of the younger Gen Xers, because it again, it's generational, so it's not the entire generation.
- 2:20Danyelle: And that is really about security, about feeling safe, right?
- 2:26Danyelle: If we think about Taurus as the most grounded earth sign, it is the earth sign that's going to plant roots, put a fence up, and live there forever and be really like steadfast in that.
- 2:40Danyelle: Okay.
- 2:41Danyelle: And so when I was thinking about that being the core wound and thinking about how boomers have instilled that, right?
- 2:50Danyelle: If you get a job, you go to school and you get a job and you're at that job for 50 years and then you retire and that's it.
- 2:58Danyelle: And how Gen X is like the core wound is that?
- 3:03Danyelle: Like, is that my self-worth?
- 3:05Danyelle: Am I supposed to be doing that?
- 3:07Danyelle: And this kind of foot in with the old generation of that stability and that's what's good.
- 3:14Danyelle: And you know, millennials who are like trying to figure it out, blow it up a little bit.
- 3:19Michelle: Oh my God.
- 3:20Michelle: I'm thinking of all of my Gen Xers, and I'm like, oh yeah.
- 3:24Michelle: Yeah.
- 3:25Danyelle: Yes.
- 3:25Danyelle: So Chiron to me is one that I think plays really loudly in friendship and just how we are in community with others.
- 3:35Danyelle: And yeah, just to say again, right, I think this is also why millennials are so into therapy and self-help and like growing and improving ourselves because we wanna, this is our part of our core moon.
- 3:50Danyelle: We want to be understood.
- 3:51Danyelle: We want to be understood.
- 3:52Danyelle: We want our words to feel like they landed.
- 3:55Danyelle: Yeah.
- 3:56Danyelle: And one of the ways that you do it in this realm is by bettering yourself, by learning new techniques, by these different tools that we and here we are.
- 4:08Danyelle: Anything that resonates for you.
- 4:11Danyelle: All of it.
- 4:11Michelle: Yeah.
- 4:12Michelle: Yeah, all of it.
- 4:13Michelle: I mean, because granted, it's not gonna hit everyone in the same way.
- 4:18Michelle: For us, it is this exploration and adventure in self-help and healing and therapy.
- 4:25Michelle: And even if you aren't 100% on that journey, I think most of the folks our age are at least interested and like kind of bought into that.
- 4:33Michelle: But yeah, again, another way in which you can sort of look at the chart and see the connection points.
- 4:38Michelle: Absolutely.
- 4:39Michelle: Yeah.
- 4:39Michelle: And then the Gen X thing that's mind blowing because that's the first time I've heard of it.
- 4:43Michelle: And I'm like, oh yeah, that part.
- 4:45Michelle: That's exactly that makes me want to look it up for all the generations.
- 4:48Michelle: We can look it up after that.
- 4:49Michelle: Yes.
- 4:50Michelle: Okay.
- 4:50Michelle: Maybe a bonus episode.
- 4:52Michelle: Oh, yeah.
- 4:52Danyelle: We can love a bonus.
- 4:54Danyelle: Okay.
- 4:55Danyelle: Um, and then lastly, one of the things that we talk about in astrology are returns.
- 5:01Danyelle: And so we have a solar return every year, and that is when the sun returns to the exact spot it was when we were born.
- 5:08Danyelle: That's our birthday.
- 5:10Danyelle: And then we have these other returns throughout our life.
- 5:13Danyelle: Anytime a planet arrives back at that natal chart placement, it is called a return.
- 5:19Danyelle: One that people hear about and talk about a lot is the Saturn return.
- 5:24Danyelle: So Saturn is discipline, it is rigidity, it is putting things into order, it is structure.
- 5:33Danyelle: Saturn is, you know, it is it's not luciducy.
- 5:43Danyelle: The Saturn return is a time in your late 20s up until your early 30s, where your life kind of blows up.
- 5:52Danyelle: It's this snow globe time when all of a sudden everything that made sense starts to crumble, starts to fall apart.
- 6:01Danyelle: Very tower energy, very like Ten of Swords energy, and this idea of like who I was is not who I am and absolutely not who I'm becoming.
- 6:12Danyelle: Right.
- 6:13Danyelle: And so we wanted to highlight our Saturn returns as we're layering our natal charts over our friendship.
- 6:20Danyelle: And we were both born in 1985.
- 6:22Danyelle: And so our Saturn return was roughly 2012 to about 2016.
- 6:29Danyelle: And I know for me, I dipped.
- 6:32Danyelle: So 2014, whereas that's like the center midpoint of that Saturn return.
- 6:38Danyelle: I moved to LA for grad school.
- 6:41Danyelle: My dad had passed away the year before, and I was like, life is too short.
- 6:46Danyelle: What am I doing?
- 6:47Danyelle: I gotta go.
- 6:49Danyelle: I just finished my undergrad because it took me 10 years to do that.
- 6:53Danyelle: We're never behind, actually always on time.
- 6:57Danyelle: And I just it it felt very much in this way of like, I gotta do the things, I gotta show up.
- 7:04Danyelle: I I can't be so laissez-faire.
- 7:08Danyelle: I can't be so go at the flow.
- 7:10Danyelle: Like, time is real.
- 7:13Danyelle: And when I think about 2012, I was going through some transitions in my relationship.
- 7:19Danyelle: And, you know, I didn't have to move to LA.
- 7:23Danyelle: I got into four schools in the Bay Area, and I was just like, book it, YOLA, gotta go.
- 7:30Michelle: Yeah.
- 7:31Michelle: My therapist at the time was the first person who introduced this idea to me because I started seeing him when I was, I think I was 26 or 27, maybe 27 is more accurate.
- 7:43Michelle: And that was one of the first sessions we had as he introduced the Saturn, this idea of the Saturn return to me.
- 7:50Michelle: I don't know if that's what he called it, but he was like, When you're in this age, you either really latch on to the things that are working for you and you dig in or you blow it all up.
- 8:02Michelle: And so this is so classic us because you blew it up and like moved and started doing something very different.
- 8:08Michelle: I started to dig in.
- 8:09Michelle: I had met Ashley the year before, and in 2012, we moved in together.
- 8:14Michelle: I was starting to grow my career and I went into back-to-back jobs that had the same title, and it was five years each, and I was really like investing in that.
- 8:23Michelle: And yeah, so I love that idea that you dig, and I don't, it's so funny because I can only really now looking back on it, understand that I dug in.
- 8:31Michelle: Um, but that's definitely what I was doing because I had already had periods of my life where I sort of blew things up and I think I was looking for that stability.
- 8:38Michelle: But I love taking this concept into coaching practice, especially with young folks, because there is this sort of like emerging, this like chrysalis coming into being a caterpillar into a butterfly in your late 20s where you're sort of like, okay, I'm not a kid anymore.
- 8:57Michelle: Maybe I've come out of college, I've done a couple years of a career, and like now what?
- 9:03Michelle: Yeah.
- 9:03Michelle: And I feel like it's an offering, the fact that it's happening at a broader level.
- 9:08Michelle: It's not just me who doesn't have it figured out who feels a bit lost.
- 9:12Michelle: I mean, the day that I met Ashley was my last day working at the cafe that I had worked at.
- 9:17Michelle: I was working two or three jobs at a time, and it was this really like I can almost see how I like shed the skin and started like digging into a different life.
- 9:26Danyelle: Oh, I love that.
- 9:28Danyelle: That feels, I mean, yeah.
- 9:31Danyelle: And I the one thing that really stands out of what you just said is that it's not happening in a silo, that this is happening to the people around us.
- 9:39Danyelle: And so when we think about relationships, when we think about our platonic beloveds, now we're all in the same when we're in the same age range.
- 9:49Danyelle: We're in a similar experience of shedding, of this metaphorical death, of blowing things up or digging in.
- 9:57Danyelle: It's going to impact the ways that we show up.
- 10:00Danyelle: Again, I moved and you were nesting.
- 10:06Danyelle: And so, like, that is a period of time in our friendship where there was a lot more space and there was a lot more, like, I don't know what you're doing on a day-to-day.
- 10:16Danyelle: Like, you're talking about your job.
- 10:18Danyelle: So I was like, What was her job?
- 10:20Michelle: Girl, there was a period of time where I never really even knew like what you were studying, despite like helping you get into grad school.
- 10:27Michelle: I was like, Where is she?
- 10:28Michelle: Where, you know, and I it but it's like as best friends, you're sort of like, I should know, and so I will not ask.
- 10:35Michelle: It's does that make sense?
- 10:37Michelle: It's too late.
- 10:37Michelle: We've gone too far.
- 10:38Danyelle: We will be weird.
- 10:41Michelle: So dumb.
- 10:42Michelle: Um for you.
- 10:44Michelle: This is a good one.
- 10:44Michelle: Oh, girl, two things coming in hot.
- 10:49Michelle: I know more than I give myself credit for.
- 10:51Michelle: We have been talking about this for a long time, but I think the reason this episode is so long is it's fun to get to know yourself more and your friends more.
- 11:01Michelle: But this is a new conversation because it's about how you interact and how it all comes together.
- 11:08Michelle: And I love it, it's just so fun.
- 11:10Michelle: I love that.
- 11:11Michelle: And also how it plays a role in all the other elements we've just talked about in tarot and mental health.
- 11:18Michelle: Um, I love it.
- 11:20Michelle: That's what came up for me.
- 11:21Michelle: Great.
- 11:22Danyelle: Um, for me, I agree.
- 11:26Danyelle: This is so fun.
- 11:27Danyelle: I this is my like sweet spot, my my happy place talking about all things cosmos and ethereal and metaphysical.
- 11:39Danyelle: I really appreciated some of the like deeper dives that we went on.
- 11:45Danyelle: I again, we talk, I feel like I can hold a lot of space for our big six and our day-to-day.
- 11:51Danyelle: But thinking about the Saturn return in this way, thinking about our Chiron in Gemini and our core wounds, um, we didn't get into some of the other outer planet placements, but just really thinking about how when you layer this onto our friendship, it makes sense.
- 12:12Danyelle: And you started this with patterns, right?
- 12:15Danyelle: And it's like, oh, here is the pattern that weaves through, you know, this tapestry that I like to talk about.
- 12:22Danyelle: And it just gives some, it gives it some depth.
- 12:26Danyelle: Yeah.
- 12:26Danyelle: It just, it's so, it's good, it's juicy.
- 12:29Michelle: Yeah.
- 12:30Michelle: I want to make two recommendations.
- 12:32Michelle: One is that you follow an astrologer on social media.
- 12:38Michelle: We'll provide some in the resources, but it's really fun to get to know the different placements and especially when you connect with your friends and what they are, then you can start to like laugh at those synergies or the memes that come by you.
- 12:54Michelle: Um, so I definitely recommend that.
- 12:56Michelle: And maybe even an app.
- 12:58Michelle: Is the pattern one you would recognize recommend for friends?
- 13:01Danyelle: Yeah, pattern is great, time passages is great, Tani is great, CoStar is fantastic.
- 13:08Danyelle: It will read you every time.
- 13:11Danyelle: Kind of funny though.
- 13:12Danyelle: I yeah, I don't think there's I what I will say is there's not one wrong app.
- 13:17Danyelle: The Sanctuary is another really great one.
- 13:19Danyelle: Sure.
- 13:19Danyelle: They all do different things.
- 13:21Danyelle: I am a time passages stand.
- 13:24Danyelle: I love this app because it is a little bit more clinical.
- 13:28Danyelle: Okay, if you will.
- 13:29Danyelle: It doesn't read you in the same way.
- 13:31Danyelle: It's not as pop culture-y in that way.
- 13:34Danyelle: But as somebody who does utilize astrology in my day-to-day, I appreciate time passages because it's gonna give you the real, real.
- 13:44Michelle: So this is such an amazing segue.
- 13:45Michelle: I couldn't have planned it better myself.
- 13:47Michelle: I would love for anyone who's interested in exploring further to go to tidehealings.com, not dot org.com, not only to explore what it would look like to book a therapy session with Danielle, but I believe you're open to even if you just want to do some tarot with astrology mixed in and get a reading.
- 14:11Michelle: I think it's just a really nice way to explore something deeper.
- 14:14Michelle: And I think that trifecta of therapy with tarot with astrology takes you somewhere really special.
- 14:20Michelle: And I know that there have been several readings that you've done for me that have been life-changing in the way of either being called out when I need to be, or invitations to to dive further and to explore what it means to me when something comes forward from this place of like knowing.
- 14:36Michelle: And yeah, I can't recommend it enough.
- 14:39Michelle: So I definitely want to throw that out there.
- 14:41Danyelle: Thank you.
- 14:41Danyelle: I think that my invitation is to yeah, download one of these apps and have your friend do it as well and then play what comes up, what's hilarious, what is like surprising.
- 14:54Danyelle: Take it as a time to build out a friendship date and hang and learn a little bit more.
- 15:00Michelle: Yeah, and you're gonna need your obviously date and your birth, the place you were born, the time, which can sometimes be hard for folks.
- 15:08Michelle: It should be on your birth certificate.
- 15:11Danyelle: Yeah, that's typically sometimes if you don't know, you can ask a parent or caregiver like, what time do you think I was born?
- 15:18Danyelle: What time of day?
- 15:19Danyelle: You can get what they call a sunrise chart, which just doesn't provide you with your rising.
- 15:24Danyelle: Okay.
- 15:25Danyelle: So all the other placements will be there except your rising.
- 15:27Michelle: All right, have fun with that.
- 15:29Michelle: Will you please pull us a card?
- 15:32Michelle: I almost forgot.
- 15:33Michelle: I feel like you are gonna have to do two for this one.
- 15:36Michelle: Oh, I don't know.
- 15:37Michelle: That's just coming in like we're gonna need to see the bottom of the deck for this one.
- 15:44Michelle: I mean, it's a it's it came up earlier in my mind.
- 15:47Michelle: I was like, we need two.
- 15:48Michelle: I don't know why.
- 15:49Michelle: All right, I suppose we'll find out why.
- 15:53Michelle: Oh, because they're both cups, okay, both emotions.
- 15:56Danyelle: Okay, all right.
- 15:57Danyelle: So we've got the king of cups and bottom of the deck, the eight of cups, which immediately what I'm thinking about is astrology is emotional, it is a part of the ways that we process emotions.
- 16:15Danyelle: And we're also in eclipse season right now, and as we're recording both minutes.
- 16:22Danyelle: Yes, both, yes.
- 16:24Danyelle: Um, and so to me, this is really giving um this moment.
- 16:30Danyelle: So, like, yes, the episode, yes, astrology, but like this feels like a collective read for eclipse season.
- 16:37Danyelle: Okay.
- 16:38Danyelle: So the King of Cops came up in reverse.
- 16:42Danyelle: And the one thing I will say about eclipse season is it is this time when the cosmos are wonky.
- 16:51Danyelle: So they always say, or I believe, um, we don't manifest or do magic during eclipse season because you you don't know where it's gonna come out.
- 17:01Danyelle: Like maybe it will happen in 20 years, but backwards.
- 17:06Danyelle: Okay.
- 17:06Danyelle: And so you we don't do that.
- 17:09Danyelle: And this King of Cups in reverse to me is that discomfort of what happens when things aren't feeling stable or settled, and that is eclipse season.
- 17:21Danyelle: So for me, I want us to anchor into any eclipse season.
- 17:26Danyelle: It's gonna feel a little bumpy, it's gonna feel a little chaotic, it's going to feel uncomfortable.
- 17:34Danyelle: But we still have our throne that we can sit on.
- 17:37Danyelle: The beautiful thing about the King of Cups is it can float on the water.
- 17:41Danyelle: And no matter how choppy that water is, the King of Cups is cool, calm, and collected.
- 17:48Danyelle: And so think about the ways in which, as you are exploring astrology, as you are sitting with the different transits in the cosmos, how do you still find your tether?
- 18:00Danyelle: How do you still come back to your emotions and allow them to be present but not become them?
- 18:06Danyelle: And then this eight of cups is a journey card, it's an invitation to explore where you haven't been before.
- 18:14Danyelle: And so, this to me is definitely eclipses and energy.
- 18:18Danyelle: It is definitely, hey, I don't know a lot about astrology, but this episode was interesting and I love the energy that y'all brought.
- 18:24Danyelle: I'm gonna dive into it.
- 18:27Danyelle: I will also say it's a time that you're in a place where you've learned all that you can, and it's time to take it somewhere else.
- 18:37Danyelle: And so when I think about the two of these together, it's find your tether, allow yourself to be connected in the ways that you need to, even if everything around you is topsy-turvy, and take inventory.
- 18:53Danyelle: Are you still even supposed to be here?
- 18:55Danyelle: Or do you need to go on this journey to find what is next?
- 19:01Danyelle: Beautiful.
- 19:02Danyelle: We'll see you next week.
- 19:03Danyelle: Bye.
