- 0:06Thoughts in Marriage Yesterday we talked about opening the doors of your past
- 0:10to your spouse. Today we move on to the present.
- 0:13Our brains are amazing things that never stop. We consider what we see and hear.
- 0:18We ruminate about what's going on in our lives and in the world around us.
- 0:21We have fears, hopes, goals, and dreams.
- 0:24Some of those are fleeting thoughts, while others are pondered over and over.
- 0:28Most of us don't share all of these things. Some feel personal,
- 0:32some feel frivolous, and some just don't feel like they matter to anyone.
- 0:35I'm not suggesting you download every thought that passes between your ears.
- 0:39However, it is likely that your spouse and your marriage would benefit from
- 0:43you sharing more of yourself.
- 0:45If you're wondering where to start, here are a few rooms currently under construction
- 0:49in your mind that you could share.
- 0:51Your dreams. The ones that seem possible and the ones that don't.
- 0:54The big and the small. near future and very long term. The dreams you have abandoned.
- 1:00Your fears, both the rational ones and the ones you know are not.
- 1:04Your frustration with various people in your life, including,
- 1:08lovingly, any significant frustration with your spouse.
- 1:11Your thoughts on God and how they have changed or matured recently.
- 1:15How you feel about current events, including politics. Do tread lightly.
- 1:19If you have children at home, much of the above may include them.
- 1:23That's fine, but go beyond them You are more than a parent A practical way to
- 1:28do this is to do a 10-minute mental update each day Of course,
- 1:32when one of you needs more than 5 minutes,
- 1:34go for it This is Paul, and doing marriage well is easier when you know who your spouse is.
