- 0:00Doing Marriage Well for April 12, 2026 Opening Your Spiritual Life to Your Spouse Happy Lord's Day!
- 0:07One more place where a marriage needs open doors are spiritual lives.
- 0:11If you follow Jesus, your walk with the Lord should have a significant impact
- 0:15on how you live your life.
- 0:17It should also have a profound impact on your marriage. So letting your spouse
- 0:20into this part of yourself is important.
- 0:23For some men, this one will be more difficult than anything else I have suggested.
- 0:27I've struggled with this myself. It's the most
- 0:29personal part of me I've often been too closed about
- 0:33it in general And that extended to my wife and children
- 0:36Like the other rooms we've discussed this past week
- 0:38Our spiritual lives started to form before we were aware of it This is obvious
- 0:43if you grew up in a religious home But a lack of teaching about God also creates
- 0:48a spiritual reality Talk to your spouse about what you were or were not taught
- 0:52about God as a child If you were taught something apart from Christianity, discuss that.
- 0:57Talk about when you accepted Jesus and what brought that about.
- 1:00Did salvation make a big change in your life? Was there a period of backsliding?
- 1:05Did you have a point where it suddenly became far more important to you?
- 1:08Also talk about your current spiritual walk. Is it stronger or weaker now than it was in the past?
- 1:14Are you on good terms with God or do you have issues with Him?
- 1:17Do you feel you pray as you should and as often as you should?
- 1:20What about Bible reading and study? Do you need to up your game?
- 1:24Are you living out your faith well in all areas of your life?
- 1:27If you haven't discussed theology much, that would be a good thing to do.
- 1:31Be careful and give grace.
- 1:32You are not looking for a debate. You are looking for a window into each other's hearts.
- 1:37And finally, how do you feel you are doing as a couple? Do you have a joint
- 1:41walk with the Lord? Would either of you like more prayer time together?
- 1:44What about shared Bible study or doing a devotional together?
- 1:48If your spouse is not saved, you will have to make adjustments.
- 1:51The idea of sharing the gospel at all times and using words when necessary is a good approach.
- 1:56This is Paul, and putting God first is so doing marriage well.
