- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Do you? Often have anxiety attacks or
- 0:41panic attacks, or even if they're infrequent, you know how
- 0:45horrible they can feel. Well, this is a hypnosis
- 0:49session, unlike most of my other hypnosis sessions, that is
- 0:53actually designed to be used while you're experiencing an
- 0:57anxiety attack or a panic attack.
- 1:00It's Adam here, and the client I was working with would have them
- 1:03normally a few times per month. So they wanted a recording that
- 1:07they could listen to, keep it on their phone, and then if they
- 1:10were experiencing the early stages of a panic attack, they
- 1:14could start listening immediately, either to reduce
- 1:18the intensity of the anxiety attack or reduce how long the
- 1:22anxiety attack lasted. It's about 15 minutes long, and
- 1:26that matches with how most anxiety tends to last.
- 1:31The body can produce adrenaline for about 20 minutes.
- 1:34So although you can have low levels of anxiety for a long
- 1:36period of time, you can have that hyper vigilance.
- 1:39Generally panic attacks or anxiety attacks, they don't tend
- 1:42to last that long at that kind of level, 8910 out of 10
- 1:46severity. So if you can relate to this, I
- 1:49would encourage you to listen to this now for priming, but then
- 1:53save it somewhere so that if you are having some form of anxiety
- 1:57or some kind of panic, you have it as a resource.
- 2:00It utilizes things like breathing, so breath work, but
- 2:05also mindfulness, focusing on different things and having the
- 2:08suggestion that all anxiety is temporary.
- 2:11There hasn't been one person on the planet that has had a
- 2:14lifelong panic attack. All panic attacks, all anxiety
- 2:18attacks are temporary and they are manageable.
- 2:21And the moment you have the belief that they are temporary
- 2:23and manageable, that also reduces the intensity because
- 2:27most evaluations of a panic attack are false evaluations
- 2:31that catastrophize. So having the evaluation that it
- 2:36is temporary and manageable itself becomes a self fulfilling
- 2:39prophecy to reduce intensity. So keep this one saved if you
- 2:44are prone to anxiety attacks or panic attacks and that way you
- 2:46have it locked and loaded if you ever need it.
- 2:50If you do want something bespoke and customized for you, most of
- 2:53these sessions were created for clients that I actually worked
- 2:56with. So if you like the idea of
- 2:58working with me and you've not really known about it or not
- 3:02sure that you could check out the show notes here or visit my
- 3:06website, adamcox.co.uk. And there you're going to find
- 3:09out exactly all the different ways in which you can work with
- 3:12me directly. So that rather than just
- 3:15listening to me on a podcast, you can actually work with me
- 3:17one-on-one. For now though, find a quiet,
- 3:20comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 3:21disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 3:44Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in.
- 3:54Just in a standard, normal way. And as you exhale, just breathe
- 4:01out whatever pace you've been breathing.
- 4:06Not faster, not slower, not shallower, not deeper.
- 4:15And as you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to
- 4:20evaluate how you're breathing. Maybe you're breathing from your
- 4:27chest or deep down there in the diaphragm.
- 4:34Maybe it feels that you're breathing in more than enough,
- 4:39or you have a sense that you're breathing in more than you need.
- 4:48And I want you to imagine as you breathe in and breathe out, you
- 4:53start to detach. Observe.
- 4:59Not trying to force a breath or restrict a breath, just allowing
- 5:05whatever is occurring. And as you breathe in and
- 5:10breathe down, I want you to think of a scale from zero to
- 5:1710. 0 represents the absence of any anxiety, and perhaps one or
- 5:31two is just the low levels of subtle anxiety.
- 5:39You might call that caution or low levels of vigilance, and
- 5:48then start thinking of three. Maybe that's nervousness, just
- 5:59an unsettled feeling, and maybe 4 feels like the form of those
- 6:09butterflies in the stomach. But the evil twin.
- 6:16I want you to get a sense that there's a feeling of your body
- 6:24getting ready for something where it whether it needs to or
- 6:28not. And I want you to scan, scan
- 6:35your body for any clues. Maybe there's a feeling there
- 6:40deep in your chest. Maybe it feels a sensation
- 6:46moving from your chest up into your throat, maybe up into your
- 6:51brain. But the more you think about
- 6:55this in that detached, observing way, the more you start to see a
- 7:05pattern, a pattern that gets it wrong.
- 7:12Most of the time. The purpose of anxiety is to
- 7:20protect from real dangers and real threats.
- 7:29And as you focus on the sensations in your body, you
- 7:36can't help but assess is there any real danger, any real
- 7:45threats, Is it imminent or even probable?
- 7:52And wherever you are on that spectrum, whether it's 3 or 4 or
- 8:00maybe higher, maybe there's already been a sensation of
- 8:04something spreading from your central chest down to your
- 8:08shoulders, a quiet scream of desperation right inside your
- 8:14brain. But I want you to come to the
- 8:19conclusion then, all of this is temporary.
- 8:25And that there is a 99.9% probability that this is yet
- 8:34another false alarm every time you breathe out.
- 8:43Just give permission to breathe out a little longer, and when
- 8:51you breathe in, breathe in that feeling of relaxation.
- 8:58I want you to imagine that sometimes things can happen to
- 9:03stop things getting too far. I want you to imagine the kind
- 9:14of bomb that you would see in a cartoon.
- 9:19You've seen them in those Tom and Jerry type of cartoons.
- 9:25Black circular bomb with a long fuse.
- 9:31But just because a fuse is lit doesn't need to mean it's
- 9:36exploding. Just imagine that even if the
- 9:43sequence has started, you could imagine putting out that fuse so
- 9:49the explosion of anxiety never occurs.
- 9:56Breathing and relaxation, exhaling tension.
- 9:59Each breath takes you down a notch.
- 10:07You can imagine anxiety is waves.
- 10:12Not all waves are big, but all waves are temporary, and I want
- 10:19you to imagine that there are so many things you can focus on
- 10:26right now. You can focus on your breathing,
- 10:33but you could also focus on your surroundings.
- 10:41I want you to think of all the things that you could see and
- 10:46then just pick out five, five things that you can see.
- 10:57Look for colours, look for shades and each time label them.
- 11:14then focus on four things that you can touch and then actually
- 11:22touch them and just aim for different textures.
- 11:28Some things might be rough and some things might be smooth.
- 11:32Some things might be warmer, some things might be colder.
- 11:40That's it. And I'll focus on three things
- 11:45that you can hear. Maybe it's my voice right now,
- 11:52all the music in the background, but if you focus really hard,
- 11:58there might be sounds around you.
- 12:03And as you focus on what you can hear, think of how your body is
- 12:16adapting when you break the pattern by directing focus in a
- 12:24different area. Where focus goes, energy flows.
- 12:32And see if you can find two things that you can smell.
- 12:39Smells harder. You might really have to focus.
- 12:48Maybe it's the subtle smell of a deodorant, a fabric softener
- 12:54used for clothes or sheets. Maybe.
- 13:01Maybe there's a different smell of an echo of food that was
- 13:04prepared before. Every home has a smell.
- 13:12Sometimes you only notice it when you visit someone else's.
- 13:17Two things you can smell and then one thing you can taste,
- 13:25even if that one thing is your own saliva.
- 13:58know that you can go through this process whenever you
- 14:03choose. How often you choose.
- 14:07But sometimes you only notice that whatever that sensation of
- 14:12anxiety was has already become lower.
- 14:18By thinking of five things you can see, 4 things you can touch,
- 14:25three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one
- 14:33thing you can taste. And each time you have that long
- 14:40outward breath or focus your attention on one of your senses,
- 14:49knowing full well that all anxiety is temporary, all
- 14:55anxiety is manageable. Don't be surprised if whatever
- 15:03the number was on that anxiety scale is already starting to
- 15:11reduce. It's only a matter of time that
- 15:17even A10 can become a nine. A9 can become an 8 an 8.
- 15:23Will. Become a 7 and A7 will become a
- 15:28six and when it's a six it will have to go to A5 and then a four
- 15:36and then a three. Is different when it returns to
- 15:41a three then if it moved from one or two to get to a three,
- 15:47because you know that the energy in this wave of anxiety is
- 15:52dissipating so that very soon it will be a 2 and then a one and
- 15:59perhaps nothing at all. And whenever you listen to this,
- 16:05you're not dependent on the recording because the neural
- 16:10pathways are being formed for you to evaluate where you are,
- 16:17evaluate the probability that it's a false alarm, and to use
- 16:23breathing and focus to change your state, making it more and
- 16:31more manageable. Your immune system requires the
- 16:40occasional bacterial or virus every now and then, because each
- 16:45time it defends against a virus, it's better prepared the next
- 16:50time. You will accept the suggestion
- 16:55that each time you feel anxiety and either dilute it, tame it,
- 17:02or manage it. It becomes easier to manage the
- 17:06very next time. And as you hold that thought,
- 17:12it's time to move from this state, knowing that you can
- 17:20simply listen to this again to reduce the anxiety even more,
- 17:28only if it's required. So take a deep breath in through
- 17:33your nose and out through your nose and wiggle your fingers and
- 17:39wiggle your toes as I count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 17:46Starting to count 123 waking up 456, More alert. 7-8.
- 17:55Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910 Wide awake,
- 18:00Wide awake. Wide awake.
