- 0:14SPEAKER_01: everyone,
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: welcome to the,
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: uh,
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: January,
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: 2025 sharp marketing mastermind meeting today.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: We are talking about all things,
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Google ads,
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: literally,
- 0:24cause we'll be discussing traditional Google ads that all of us
- 0:28probably know very
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: well.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: And then today I have Thomas Glasgow with me.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 0:33he's honestly my primary local service ads resource who I go to
- 0:38for information
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: about what the platform is doing,
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: what's new.
- 0:43And so I'm gonna let him lead the first part of this meeting
- 0:46today to talk about
- 0:47local service ads and to talk about local service ads and
- 0:53answer any questions you
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: guys have,
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: which reminded me,
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: I need to enable the chat.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: So let me do that.
- 0:58I usually do it before the meeting,
- 1:00but Thomas and I were talking,
- 1:02so naturally just ran behind.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, okay.
- 1:12So if you guys don't mind,
- 1:13uh,
- 1:14try to tap the,
- 1:15try to type a few things in chat.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Um, just so we know you're there, Kelly, Daniela.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Finally.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Um, thank you, Michelle's arena.
- 1:27I was thinking about user and I was going to email you and just
- 1:29check in with you.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So I actually, um, I need to do that after this meeting.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Um, all right, well, everyone will go ahead.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: I'll let Thomas take it over, talk to you guys about local service ads.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: And then after he's done, we'll transition to Google Ads SEO.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: So take it away, Thomas.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Thanks, Tiffany.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Hey, everybody.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Good to meet you.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Thomas Glasgow.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: My agency is 1122 Marketing.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: The only thing I do, as Tiffany alluded to, is LSAs for lawyers.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited to talk LSAs with everyone today.
- 2:01Please interrupt me if you want to dive into something or if
- 2:04you didn't understand something.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I love going down rabbit holes and tangents.
- 2:08And generally,
- 2:09if you got a question,
- 2:10everyone else is wondering the same thing as well.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So super informal on my end.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Please jump in as needed.
- 2:18I'm gonna start with like all the way at the beginning and what
- 2:23I think LSAs are designed to do.
- 2:24Because to me,
- 2:25it's a really different type of ad product than anything else
- 2:29out there.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: So here's how I think about LSAs.
- 2:34LSAs are really trying to solve for two threats that Google
- 2:40have that create the
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: same problem for them.
- 2:43And the threats that I think LSA solves for are the threat of
- 2:47AI and how that will impact
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: search and paid search,
- 2:53as well as the threat of all the antitrust and monopoly stuff
- 2:57that Google has
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: coming down the pipeline.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And both of these threats mean that users in the market,
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: searchers,
- 3:03are going to have more choice when it comes to the actual
- 3:07search products,
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Google,
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Bing,
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: ChatGPT,
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: whatever that they use,
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: right?
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And so that means that Google actually needs to have a product,
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: an ad product that people like using and deliver great results.
- 3:20And so I think LSAs is kind of what Google's using to solve
- 3:23this problem,
- 3:24right?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And the way they're doing it is they're prioritizing
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: user experience over profit with LSAs.
- 3:33And that might sound kind of crazy because Google's a dirty
- 3:36evil tyrant whose sole
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: mission is to make as much profit off of you as possible,
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: right?
- 3:41But they can't do that if they can't monetize people and keep
- 3:43them on platforms.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So for LSAs at least,
- 3:45they want people to have a better user experience or prioritize
- 3:49that over a profit
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: to some extent.
- 3:52And you probably know this to be true or maybe have figured
- 3:56this out on your own with LSAs.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Like you can set a budget
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: of a million dollars a week, right?
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: And maybe you spent zero dollars on that budget before, right?
- 4:04And so if you set that same budget of a million bucks a week on
- 4:09a PPC or a YouTube
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: campaign,
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Google would figure out how to take all your money,
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: right?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And so I think that illustrates the point that like there is something
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: fundamentally different about this product,
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: and that is it's prioritizing user experience,
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: the searcher user experience over everything else.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: And so then the question becomes,
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: okay,
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: if that's the fundamental difference,
- 4:32how do we signal to Google that you guys provide the best user
- 4:37experience in your
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: market?
- 4:39And the primary way I think about this is by what happens on
- 4:44the phone call.
- 4:44That is the greatest way to show Google that you're doing the
- 4:48things that they want
- 4:49and delivering the searcher experience that they want delivered
- 4:51to their searchers,
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: right?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Because every time...
- 4:54someone calls your law firm from an lsa from the second the
- 4:58person clicks the call
- 4:59button google is listening to that call and using ai to analyze
- 5:05everything about
- 5:06that call and so the call itself is a treasure trove of data
- 5:11for google to
- 5:12understand if you provide a great experience or if you provide
- 5:16a crappy experience
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: and so to that end i want to share one
- 5:21takeaway that we encourage clients to use and you can implement
- 5:26in your own firm,
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: and it's this,
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: right?
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Since Google is listening to the calls,
- 5:32every time you get a call on an LSA from anything that
- 5:35resembles a case type you
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: serve,
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: you never want to let Google hear you turn that down on the initial call.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: So let me give you an example.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Let's say you're a personal injury firm, someone calls you,
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: They tell you that they were in an auto accident.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: They have some really minor injuries.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Maybe there's a gap in treatment.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: It's a case that you don't want.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: It's disqualified based on your criteria,
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: but it's still an auto accident with a minor injury,
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: and the person searched a keyword like auto accident lawyer near me,
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: right?
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: If you were to turn that down on the call,
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Google would hear you turn that down,
- 6:14and then we'd create a really negative association between the
- 6:18keyword auto
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: accident lawyer near me
- 6:21And what actually ended up happening on the call and then
- 6:23Google's disincentivized
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: to rank you high for that keyword next time,
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: because they think they made a bad match.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: So like,
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: we always want Google based on what happens during the call,
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: to think that you are moving the call forward in a meaningful direction.
- 6:42and to reinforce that you want those type of leads and that
- 6:45they made a good match
- 6:46between that that keyword and that the person had a good
- 6:48experience right if you
- 6:49tell them you're turning them down it's a bad searcher
- 6:52experience as well because
- 6:53now they need to start their entire search process over they
- 6:55need to go back they
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: need to search the query they need to call another lawyer
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Like, so from a searcher experience, it's also less ideal.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: They got to, you know, continue their search process.
- 7:04So that's one practical takeaway from the call side of things
- 7:08that you can implement.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: And that is really useful when in competitive verticals,
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: particularly like personal injury,
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: where you're trying to gain an advantage on LSAs.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: I'll pause there for a second.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Questions on any of that stuff?
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: So, well,
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: It's kind of a complex question,
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: I guess,
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: but like I,
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: when I talk to law firms and their intake teams,
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: um,
- 7:34particularly when it comes to local service ads and like
- 7:37updating the dashboard,
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: um,
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: there,
- 7:41the intake teams tend to be a little bit like zealous in terms
- 7:44of like what they
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: want to rank poorly.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: because like in your example,
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: it was like,
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: that was an accident case,
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: but we want good accident cases.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: So let's tell Google this is a bad one.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Like,
- 7:55can you talk a little bit about that and just like what kind of
- 7:58feedback we need to
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: send Google,
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: overall?
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: So and Michael,
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: to your question here,
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Michael's question was,
- 8:05can you recommend how to handle the call if it's just property
- 8:08damage and no
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: injuries,
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: which I think is kind of the same question you're asking,
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Tiffany.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: And so, yeah, here's how I think about it.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: If
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: So on the call for the call recording,
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: I always want to leave it neutral, okay?
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: At the very worst.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: If it's a qualified lead and you can sign it,
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I want Google to hear you say,
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: we're sending you the retainer agreement.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: We can't wait to have you as a client, right?
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: If it's truly a qualified lead that you can sign up.
- 8:35If it's not,
- 8:36I never want them to hear that you straight out rejected it on
- 8:40the recording.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Michael, to your point, if it truly is just property damage on the
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: lead, the individual leads all have the rate this lead survey.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: There you can complete it as very dissatisfied.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: And then that's fine because we're training the algorithm there.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: But for the AI,
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Purpose when it's analyzing the call, I don't like it to hear that.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: So that's the way we structure it is.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Leave it neutral if you know you're going to turn it down.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Provide accurate feedback on the survey.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: if there are injuries,
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: but they're just not catastrophic enough for you to want to sign,
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I would still tell Google on the lead survey,
- 9:22that you're very happy with that and that it converted or that
- 9:25it's a high value
- 9:26case or something like that so that's where i kind of draw the
- 9:28distinction is like
- 9:29if there's an injury even if you didn't sign that case still
- 9:33tell google you're
- 9:34really happy with it even if it's not quite catastrophic enough
- 9:37for you but if
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: there's straight up no injuries
- 9:40It's someone hit their car while it was parked on the side of
- 9:42the road and they weren't in it.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: And that's really explicit on the call for sure.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Mark it negatively on the feedback survey.
- 9:50But you want to make sure that that's explicit on the call
- 9:54because otherwise the
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: system won't have the ability to understand what happened there.
