- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money.
- 0:02Speaker 2: She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 3: for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another
- 0:30Speaker 3: one of our Friday Drinks episodes. Were were to celebrate
- 0:33Speaker 3: the money wins from our community and have a.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Chat about the week that was.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Let's jump straight in, we have Tony. Tony, what was
- 0:41Speaker 3: on this week's money diaries?
- 0:42Speaker 5: So we talked to a lovely young woman who talked
- 0:45Speaker 5: us through how her finances have been impacted by losing
- 0:48Speaker 5: her mum at only eighteen years old. And she talked
- 0:51Speaker 5: to us about how she had to move out of home.
- 0:53Speaker 5: She had no furniture, I didn't have anything with her
- 0:56Speaker 5: little sister, and they had to move into like a
- 0:58Speaker 5: sharehouse flat, so they were paying rent and all these things.
- 1:02Speaker 1: At the first suddenly in their life.
- 1:04Speaker 5: Yeah, after their mom passed away, which is really really horrible.
- 1:07Speaker 6: As if you don't have enough to deal with her exactly.
- 1:10Speaker 5: Yeah, and obviously, like I lost my mom around the
- 1:13Speaker 5: same age. And I was saying, you know, you just
- 1:15Speaker 5: feel so out of control at that time as well,
- 1:17Speaker 5: and she said, yeah, it's only feels like I'm only
- 1:20Speaker 5: just kind of coming around to really getting past it,
- 1:24Speaker 5: and because it's just so much to take on, let alone,
- 1:26Speaker 5: like thinking about how you're going to eat and where
- 1:29Speaker 5: you're going to live, you know, which is just be awful.
- 1:31Speaker 5: So it was a really insightful chat and I hope
- 1:33Speaker 5: that if you listen to it, that you liked it
- 1:35Speaker 5: and you've got like a bit of a different perspective
- 1:37Speaker 5: and understand that no one chooses to get into debt,
- 1:40Speaker 5: and if people are in debt, it's not because they
- 1:43Speaker 5: chose it, it's because they were probably in a bit
- 1:45Speaker 5: of a crappy situation and they didn't have another option.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Yeah, whether it's dead or eight exactly exactly.
- 1:52Speaker 3: But we were having this conversation earlier today, Tony, where
- 1:55Speaker 3: you just never know, just never know if someone's circumstances,
- 1:58Speaker 3: whether you're looking at their resume and wondering what their
- 2:01Speaker 3: jobs were and why they chose those, or you know,
- 2:04Speaker 3: why they are in so much debt, Like, it's not
- 2:06Speaker 3: your position to judge them, and by judging them, you're
- 2:09Speaker 3: assuming a lot about their circumstance.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Which you don't have the information on.
- 2:12Speaker 3: So I just think it's you know, a good reminder
- 2:14Speaker 3: that you never know anything about somebody unless you've walked
- 2:17Speaker 3: a mile in their shoes. So that story was definitely,
- 2:20Speaker 3: you know, thankfully, not something I could relate to. Yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 3: but was such a special story to have shared, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: with the community, but also with me, Like I felt
- 2:29Speaker 3: so grateful that someone was willing to have that conversation
- 2:32Speaker 3: and even that you were willing to open up about
- 2:34Speaker 3: your experience having gone through something similar. And you know,
- 2:37Speaker 3: I'm just really proud of the space that we have
- 2:39Speaker 3: where people are comfortable doing that.
- 2:41Speaker 5: And if you were listening to that and that's something
- 2:43Speaker 5: you've been through, or you need some support, if you've
- 2:46Speaker 5: lost your mum, you can contact our friends at Mothers
- 2:48Speaker 5: Daughters Australia. They've got heaps of resources, heaps of support
- 2:51Speaker 5: that you can engage through them. So we'll put their
- 2:55Speaker 5: thing in our show notes.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Yeah, great, And onto this week's deep dive. Jesz, what
- 2:59Speaker 3: did we go over with George?
- 3:01Speaker 7: So you and George had to chat about credit scores
- 3:04Speaker 7: and particularly all of the myths that surround them, because
- 3:06Speaker 7: I feel like we have this misunderstanding from TV and
- 3:10Speaker 7: movies that you know, we need a credit card to
- 3:13Speaker 7: have credit and all of these other things which actually
- 3:15Speaker 7: aren't necessarily true. So you and G went through busted
- 3:18Speaker 7: a few myths. Spoke about how to improve your credit
- 3:21Speaker 7: score as well, if that's something you want to do,
- 3:23Speaker 7: so definitely well worth a listen, and how.
- 3:25Speaker 1: To do a soft check.
- 3:26Speaker 5: The difference between to soften a hard check.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And what can impact your credit score versus non checking
- 3:32Speaker 3: is not bad. You just don't want to officially inquired,
- 3:34Speaker 3: or like when you apply for a credit card or
- 3:36Speaker 3: a car loan, yep.
- 3:38Speaker 6: Question, Yes, of all the topics in finance a credit
- 3:42Speaker 6: scores is credit scores the topic that has the most misconceptions, myths,
- 3:48Speaker 6: untruth because I feel like in Australia and all the
- 3:51Speaker 6: questions we get that sometimes don't even make it into
- 3:53Speaker 6: the group, but it just feels like no one gets it.
- 3:56Speaker 7: Us is so different to us as well.
- 3:59Speaker 6: But can you think of a more misinformed area of
- 4:02Speaker 6: financing credit?
- 4:03Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 4:03Speaker 4: What investing?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Investing it's so risky you've gotta lose all your mono,
- 4:08Speaker 3: So yeah, I'd probably say investing, But credit scores. Everyone's
- 4:11Speaker 3: just like you do need a credit card to get
- 4:13Speaker 3: a good credit score to get a home loan, And
- 4:15Speaker 3: to me that just it's wild and get that information
- 4:17Speaker 3: in the bin because it's you subscribing to an American methodology.
- 4:20Speaker 3: But I also think that there's a lot of misconception
- 4:22Speaker 3: around what investing is, and to be honest, over the
- 4:25Speaker 3: long term, good investment is relatively safe, and it is,
- 4:29Speaker 3: you know, if we look at the performance and I
- 4:31Speaker 3: was having a chat today with Charlotte, who's someone in
- 4:33Speaker 3: our office, about historical performance of the share market and
- 4:37Speaker 3: different assets over time, and if you look at the
- 4:39Speaker 3: share market over the last thirty years, nobody has lost
- 4:42Speaker 3: money if they've stayed invested. The people who have lost
- 4:45Speaker 3: money are the ones who have exited because they're worried
- 4:48Speaker 3: or had to leave, or you know, haven't had the
- 4:50Speaker 3: benefit of time on their side. And I think that
- 4:52Speaker 3: there's probably a lot of misconception around that topic because
- 4:55Speaker 3: you know, everyone has a credit score and it's not
- 4:58Speaker 3: I guess that consequential. It is when it comes to
- 5:00Speaker 3: getting loans, but not investing can literally ruin your entire future,
- 5:05Speaker 3: and we just don't have enough education on the fact
- 5:08Speaker 3: that you can do it safely and in line with
- 5:09Speaker 3: your risk profile, and you can pick stogs that over
- 5:12Speaker 3: the long term grow and benefit you. And I'll stop
- 5:14Speaker 3: harping on about investment, but we all know how I
- 5:16Speaker 3: feel about that. Go listen to our entire investing series
- 5:19Speaker 3: on it.
- 5:20Speaker 5: But all the stuff about credit scores was actually really
- 5:22Speaker 5: really interesting, and it's one of our most requested things
- 5:25Speaker 5: in our Facebook group. People always like, so, what's the
- 5:27Speaker 5: deal with a credit score and a credit.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Check and all of that.
- 5:30Speaker 5: So if you've ever found yourself wondering about that, or
- 5:32Speaker 5: you watched American Pie so you think you need to
- 5:34Speaker 5: get a credit card to get a credit rating, you're
- 5:36Speaker 5: wrong and you need to listen to the episode.
- 5:38Speaker 3: That is not what I got from American Pie.
- 5:40Speaker 6: But okay, that movie that is not the one that comes.
- 5:44Speaker 4: To Let's go straight into Jessica.
- 5:48Speaker 3: We actually have a very exciting announcement to make about Property.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Playbook, don't we Oh my gosh.
- 5:53Speaker 6: Yes.
- 5:54Speaker 7: And firstly, if you don't know, Property Playbook is out
- 5:56Speaker 7: property based podcast. We still get people being like, hey,
- 5:59Speaker 7: can you recommend podcast about property?
- 6:01Speaker 1: And we have one spoiler alone, we have one.
- 6:04Speaker 7: But the really exciting thing that we have to announce
- 6:06Speaker 7: is we've actually just partnered with our friends at you
- 6:09Speaker 7: Bank to bring together that whole season of the Property Playbook.
- 6:12Speaker 7: They are such legends. If you tune into our book
- 6:16Speaker 7: launch event, they actually helped us pull that together so
- 6:19Speaker 7: last minute, after unfortunately, like five minutes literally after Covid
- 6:23Speaker 7: ruined our plans, and they were so kind and so beautiful,
- 6:26Speaker 7: and when they heard that we were doing this new podcast,
- 6:28Speaker 7: they were like, yes, how can we make it happen?
- 6:30Speaker 7: We're so excited for you. So you'll be seeing more
- 6:33Speaker 7: of them and more of us over.
- 6:35Speaker 3: On the Property Playbook, which you guys know, I'm already
- 6:37Speaker 3: a massive fan if you Bank and everyone.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Who runs you Bank.
- 6:40Speaker 3: So I'm genuinely so grateful that we can now say
- 6:42Speaker 3: we're a legit podcast with like actual partners, Like, that's
- 6:45Speaker 3: pretty cool.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I'm excited to now get paid. It's my favorite part.
- 6:50Speaker 7: Vote so on intern sorry yeah on the paperwork.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Yah, it's an unpaid internsh Thank you.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Very much, very grateful for the opportunity. You better.
- 7:03Speaker 3: All right, moving on, Ryan, what is going on in
- 7:06Speaker 3: the community this week?
- 7:07Speaker 6: All right, there's some fun ones this week, but this
- 7:08Speaker 6: one is just such a good piece of advice that
- 7:11Speaker 6: everyone should take on board. Gemma invest it's get credit
- 7:15Speaker 6: cards if you're int house guards that's going on. Gemma
- 7:20Speaker 6: says after years of just renewing my car insurance just
- 7:23Speaker 6: out of convenience, it might have been a direct debit
- 7:25Speaker 6: or just yep, same again this year, she said, I
- 7:27Speaker 6: actually bothered to shop around this year and just see
- 7:30Speaker 6: what's going on. I managed to secure a better policy
- 7:33Speaker 6: for three hundred and fifty dollars cheaper than the one
- 7:36Speaker 6: I was with, So she was getting more money win
- 7:38Speaker 6: the three fifty cheaper. And because they're always incentivizing, she
- 7:42Speaker 6: got one hundred dollars gift card just for signing up.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Four hundred and fifty dollars worth of value.
- 7:46Speaker 6: Yeah, and like I said, it seems like an easy
- 7:49Speaker 6: thing and I'm guilty of it. Yeah, just renews same again.
- 7:51Speaker 6: Next to you. But shop around, don't do it, good deal,
- 7:54Speaker 6: don't do it.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Our friends that get reminded actually help you make sure
- 7:57Speaker 3: that you always know what last year's fees were as well,
- 8:00Speaker 3: so they put it in front of mine so you
- 8:01Speaker 3: can put a reminder in your app so that if
- 8:03Speaker 3: you want to go and check it, you've actually got
- 8:05Speaker 3: all the resources that you need to call them up
- 8:06Speaker 3: and be like, well, actually I know that it was
- 8:08Speaker 3: this last year because car insurance in particular is pretty sneaky.
- 8:12Speaker 3: They don't tell you what you paid last year. They
- 8:14Speaker 3: just seen it in new bill and the invoice for
- 8:16Speaker 3: what it's going to cost this year, and you're like, oh, like,
- 8:18Speaker 3: I think it was around seven hundred dollars, but they've
- 8:21Speaker 3: sent you an invoice for like seven hundred and eighty
- 8:23Speaker 3: and you're like.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, that feelings right. Yeah, but it wasn't and.
- 8:26Speaker 3: It creeped up, and so yeah, that would be my
- 8:28Speaker 3: sneaky hot tip for today.
- 8:29Speaker 6: That's awesome. Now Bronti has done something really well, but
- 8:32Speaker 6: I don't like her. She said I didn't feel like
- 8:36Speaker 6: going for a run this morning because it was too cold,
- 8:38Speaker 6: and I'm like, talk to me, sister, I get fifty.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Degrees and it's too hot for me.
- 8:43Speaker 5: That doesn't make sense. I'm just coming up with any
- 8:46Speaker 5: excuse I can.
- 8:47Speaker 3: I didn't go on a run because I don't run,
- 8:51Speaker 3: But good on you, Bronti.
- 8:52Speaker 6: Well, and then Brondi's and I was like, yeah, I'm
- 8:54Speaker 6: with you, Bronti. I get it because but I forced
- 8:56Speaker 6: myself and got out there anymore.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah, not relatable, Bronti.
- 9:00Speaker 6: I don't know what it feels like she says. I'm
- 9:02Speaker 6: glad I did because when I was running, I found
- 9:04Speaker 6: fifty bucks on the ground.
- 9:05Speaker 7: Oh that's a good enough incentive for me to start running.
- 9:09Speaker 7: I'm gonna find fifty bucks maybe one day.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Yeah, way to just rub it in, Bronti that you're
- 9:13Speaker 6: better than all of us. Well, fifty bucks. Now, Nikki
- 9:16Speaker 6: was prepared to spend one thousand, two hundred and fifty
- 9:19Speaker 6: bucks on bedside tables. That feels like a lot. That's
- 9:22Speaker 6: a lot, right, that's like wood or like Yeah, they'd
- 9:25Speaker 6: be delicious.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Someone over to my house. I have I kea once
- 9:29Speaker 3: and have done since firsty university, can't stop, won't stop,
- 9:32Speaker 3: will not change. Maybe I will one day when I
- 9:34Speaker 3: grow up.
- 9:35Speaker 6: So Niki was ready to spend the money. Then she
- 9:37Speaker 6: saw a kmart diy hack on TikTok.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Was it Jessica's TikTok.
- 9:42Speaker 6: About a bedside table hacked?
- 9:45Speaker 7: No, we hacked a kmart table for that. She's on
- 9:48Speaker 7: the money Instagram very check that out. It was there's
- 9:51Speaker 7: going to be a video on my Instagram on the table.
- 9:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I saw the other day and on the wrong post.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Yeah you did.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I got that.
- 9:58Speaker 6: That was impressive.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Soa one that thought that counts.
- 10:01Speaker 6: Instead of spending one two hundred and fifty bucks, she
- 10:04Speaker 6: spent just seventy five dollars, therefore saving eleven one hundred dollars.
- 10:08Speaker 6: And she goes, they're pretty much the same. They're great,
- 10:10Speaker 6: that's awesome.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Do you have a picture of them?
- 10:12Speaker 4: I do not speak.
- 10:14Speaker 6: I'll get Nikki put it in the thread under your thing,
- 10:17Speaker 6: replied yourself. We'll go check it out now. Lily said
- 10:20Speaker 6: that her sister and herself they got a and you
- 10:23Speaker 6: guys might need to explain this to me. They hired
- 10:26Speaker 6: a rat.
- 10:26Speaker 4: So it's like the time you thought that lash extensions
- 10:29Speaker 4: were reappliable.
- 10:30Speaker 6: So Lily and her sister thy lash are They hired
- 10:34Speaker 6: a rack at a pre loved fashion boutique.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Yeap, I understand that.
- 10:39Speaker 6: What does that mean?
- 10:39Speaker 5: So it means that you get like a rack in
- 10:43Speaker 5: a shop, and it's kind of like if you went
- 10:45Speaker 5: to like a flea market you get to resell all
- 10:48Speaker 5: your stuff, but you're in a shop so people can
- 10:49Speaker 5: like go and look at it and try it on
- 10:51Speaker 5: and stuff, and.
- 10:52Speaker 6: The shop takes a cat or whatever.
- 10:53Speaker 1: However, yeah, or you paid a fee.
- 10:56Speaker 7: To have the rack.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Actually, yeah, well she paid eighty dollars for two weeks,
- 11:00Speaker 6: which is pretty cheap considering they made two thousand and
- 11:05Speaker 6: six dollars.
- 11:06Speaker 7: Is this place in Melbourne? Because we should definitely do that.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Can we have a shit on the money rack? Like,
- 11:10Speaker 4: I mean clothing, I don't have any clothes.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I don't wear that, do you do?
- 11:16Speaker 4: You're wearing a bing jumper right now?
- 11:18Speaker 1: You're like, I'm not going to sell them.
- 11:21Speaker 6: Well well done to Lillian Sis. That's really impressive. Now,
- 11:24Speaker 6: I asked in the slack today, which is a lot
- 11:27Speaker 6: of the group chat of us here she's in the money.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Who is the best fashion correspondent? Between Jessica, Tony and Victoria?
- 11:33Speaker 6: What did we come up with?
- 11:35Speaker 7: Tony just said not her.
- 11:36Speaker 5: I said either of these girls. Jess used to work
- 11:39Speaker 5: at Glasson's. So I feel live o yess Yeah, okay.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Our fashion correspondent Jess crossing live now, dream job.
- 11:48Speaker 6: Jess. I've just texted you. Can you describe the item.
- 11:54Speaker 7: There?
- 11:54Speaker 1: It is glad your Farmazon's effects.
- 11:57Speaker 7: I'm gonna say the style is Gorme.
- 12:00Speaker 6: It is Gorman.
- 12:01Speaker 7: Oh okay, so it's a Gorman esque I can't tell
- 12:05Speaker 7: if it's a jumpsuit. From the way that it's folding,
- 12:07Speaker 7: potentially a jumpsuit, maybe a dress like mid thigh fluttery sleeves.
- 12:14Speaker 1: It's pink with.
- 12:15Speaker 7: Like a yellow, black, white and turquoise pattern on it,
- 12:18Speaker 7: and a neck.
- 12:19Speaker 5: That would be so expected because it got a collar
- 12:21Speaker 5: no collar V neck.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, well I wasn't sure if it's V neck collar.
- 12:24Speaker 7: V neck and it's like a crossover like a little.
- 12:28Speaker 6: So considering it is in fact from Gorman, if you
- 12:31Speaker 6: were to throw a number at what would that be
- 12:33Speaker 6: working hundred bucks?
- 12:34Speaker 7: Ye, man, I'd say like two forty.
- 12:36Speaker 6: Introducing June who's a member of that She's on the money,
- 12:39Speaker 6: June sing introducing she paid one dollar at a shop
- 12:47Speaker 6: because she realized it was valuable. Then she went home
- 12:49Speaker 6: flipped it on Facebook marketplace for ninety dollars, making an
- 12:53Speaker 6: eighty nine dollar profits.
- 12:54Speaker 7: From here's the photo for you guys.
- 12:57Speaker 3: That is exactly what I thought that would look like.
- 13:00Speaker 3: You are officially that she's on the money. Fashion Correspondent.
- 13:03Speaker 7: Thank you well.
- 13:04Speaker 6: That was a great description and well done to June.
- 13:06Speaker 6: And that picture is actually in the thread of Money
- 13:08Speaker 6: Wins this week, So if everyone else wants to go
- 13:10Speaker 6: check it, out for a dollar.
- 13:11Speaker 7: She's cute, that's a bargain.
- 13:13Speaker 6: What is that? Op? Stop thinking lift?
- 13:15Speaker 7: I feel like it's normally the other way around, like
- 13:17Speaker 7: normally that like op shops have been marking up in
- 13:20Speaker 7: right years.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Look, I haven't been recently, but the last time I
- 13:23Speaker 3: went to an opshop, I was genuinely surprised about how
- 13:25Speaker 3: expensive that's really expense. I was like, hold up, hold up,
- 13:29Speaker 3: what do you mean forty dollars?
- 13:31Speaker 5: It's because people troll through it. And I'm not being
- 13:33Speaker 5: aggressive towards you, June, but people troll through, get all
- 13:37Speaker 5: the good stuff and then resell it.
- 13:39Speaker 1: So I feel like, but yeah, they have yeah, but
- 13:42Speaker 1: then when you go.
- 13:43Speaker 5: To like have a bit of a scalp, you can't
- 13:45Speaker 5: get anything good because they're reselling it all for one
- 13:47Speaker 5: hundred bucks, like on Chappel straight.
- 13:49Speaker 7: And it's shitty because for some people, like it's a
- 13:51Speaker 7: really great way to access quality closing affordable price point.
- 13:56Speaker 4: So I mean, I mean, just a hot topic. Debate, debate,
- 14:01Speaker 4: move on, move on, before it happens.
- 14:02Speaker 6: Belinda started a new job. They have a full coffee machine,
- 14:05Speaker 6: so she's no longer buying a coffee every day. Butlinda says,
- 14:09Speaker 6: I make my own. And I finally got around to
- 14:11Speaker 6: setting up a five dollars a day amount in my
- 14:15Speaker 6: Rai's account. She did Ryan john Well, I said I
- 14:17Speaker 6: I've also done that, and Belinda said, Ryan, you are
- 14:20Speaker 6: my inspiration.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Oh so cute.
- 14:24Speaker 6: I baited her to say that. I said, am I
- 14:25Speaker 6: your inspiration? She's like, yes, strate, but five dollars a
- 14:32Speaker 6: day is going to a Rais account to make up
- 14:34Speaker 6: for the coffee she's not buying. Now. Tanya recently had
- 14:38Speaker 6: and also Tanya describes herself as a longtime lurker, first
- 14:42Speaker 6: time poster. I love that I recently had breast reduction
- 14:46Speaker 6: surgery and I had some beautiful lingerie pieces that no
- 14:50Speaker 6: longer fit, which is a bit of She's really happy
- 14:52Speaker 6: she got the surgery, but she's like, I've got these pieces, and.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Then lingerie is so much money. I had.
- 15:00Speaker 1: A little like.
- 15:01Speaker 7: Wear time generally, don't you wear them to work?
- 15:08Speaker 4: Like I buy money?
- 15:09Speaker 3: Because at bombs to know about you chess is but
- 15:13Speaker 3: one minute Max.
- 15:15Speaker 7: Come in, I look cute, I take it off.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Please know it's going In the podcast, Stark.
- 15:24Speaker 6: No, so, I also had no idea the price until
- 15:27Speaker 6: I read some of the comments because it is wild.
- 15:29Speaker 4: So comments or started buying it.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Yeah, he's like, oh, I've started reading Victoria's Secret for
- 15:34Speaker 5: the articles though I needed to find.
- 15:36Speaker 6: Research, but Tanya said, I didn't want these to go
- 15:39Speaker 6: to waste, So I found a biaswap and cell page
- 15:42Speaker 6: that does specific like for this area for lingerie pieces
- 15:44Speaker 6: and stuff like that. And she got five hundred and
- 15:47Speaker 6: sixty two dollars selling all the pieces and she's going
- 15:50Speaker 6: to use that money to buy stuff. Now, Yeah, that's
- 15:53Speaker 6: so fun.
- 15:54Speaker 3: I mean, on the surface, that's really wholesome and really cute.
- 15:58Speaker 3: But like, I'm pretty sure there are people on internet
- 16:00Speaker 3: that would definitely buy your underwear.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for more than that. And after you've done
- 16:05Speaker 1: the one minute wear like.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Jess Jess, that's why she wears it only for him, don't.
- 16:11Speaker 6: Wear it too long. I've got to sell this later,
- 16:14Speaker 6: all right.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Two more Ali, that's a good side hustle.
- 16:17Speaker 6: Yes, Ali says, I rented out my second bedroom to
- 16:21Speaker 6: my to a nursing student. She lives in a small town.
- 16:23Speaker 6: A nursing student is doing their prack or whatever at
- 16:25Speaker 6: the local hospital, so she rented out the place. She's
- 16:27Speaker 6: just built her first house and was a bit really
- 16:30Speaker 6: on the edge of her mortgage repayments every month. She said,
- 16:32Speaker 6: now I've got a renter. I'm helping a student. And
- 16:35Speaker 6: a lot of people are talking now about how expensive
- 16:38Speaker 6: property prices are becoming, and sometimes you need to make
- 16:40Speaker 6: a sacrifice. Are you going to go a few more
- 16:43Speaker 6: suburbs out? Are you going to have one less bedroom?
- 16:45Speaker 6: Something to keep in mind, this is actually what I
- 16:47Speaker 6: did when I first bought a house. I was like,
- 16:49Speaker 6: single and not with bridgets, so.
- 16:51Speaker 3: It want to be nice buying a house and having
- 16:56Speaker 3: a crack at ry And.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, lingree to wear for a minute, notedge.
- 17:05Speaker 6: What's the rating of this episode? Wow? But one of
- 17:08Speaker 6: my mates actual leads PG. Yeah. One of my mates
- 17:11Speaker 6: rented the spare room and that's the only way I
- 17:12Speaker 6: could have bought to buy a house. And that was
- 17:14Speaker 6: my way of going, oh, I can't quite afford it,
- 17:16Speaker 6: but here's a sacrifice. And again, when I was single,
- 17:18Speaker 6: it wasn't really a sacrifice. It was great to have
- 17:20Speaker 6: some companies, to be honest, But that a great idea.
- 17:22Speaker 7: Ali.
- 17:22Speaker 6: She's so she's getting ahead on her mortgage so well,
- 17:25Speaker 6: and finally Kate, she bought a house in December, and
- 17:29Speaker 6: she recently had a valuation done because she's going to
- 17:31Speaker 6: remortgage and refinance. Their house is now worth two hundred
- 17:35Speaker 6: and fifty thousand dollars more than when they bought it
- 17:38Speaker 6: six months ago. Six months, six months. They bought it
- 17:42Speaker 6: in December, it's now July. What's that? Six or seven months? Yep?
- 17:45Speaker 6: We now have over fifty percent equity in our house
- 17:48Speaker 6: and we're twenty three years old. Could I be more
- 17:50Speaker 6: annoyed and jealous and annoyed at you? Kate?
- 17:53Speaker 1: Oh?
- 17:54Speaker 7: So jealous? But that's so cool.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Well done, Yeah, good job, Kate.
- 17:57Speaker 4: That is a money win, all right, Jess.
- 18:08Speaker 3: So this week is quite a special week, and we
- 18:10Speaker 3: have decided to share in lieu of our money wins
- 18:13Speaker 3: or confessions this week.
- 18:14Speaker 7: What we're going to talk about NATOC Week, which if
- 18:17Speaker 7: you didn't know, stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day
- 18:21Speaker 7: Observance Committee, and the NADOCK Committee is basically tasked with
- 18:25Speaker 7: increasing awareness in the wide community for the status and
- 18:28Speaker 7: treatment of our Aboriginal and Torus Strait Islander friends. And
- 18:32Speaker 7: so this week has a theme. Every year they do
- 18:35Speaker 7: something different. It's really fun and there's so many great activities.
- 18:38Speaker 7: Obviously we're at the end of the week now. Hopefully
- 18:40Speaker 7: you guys.
- 18:40Speaker 3: It's Friday, but hopefully you've seen it on our platform
- 18:43Speaker 3: already and interacted with it and supported it, and it
- 18:45Speaker 3: won't come as a surprise that we're talking about.
- 18:47Speaker 7: Yeah. We popped it up on Monday with the link
- 18:48Speaker 7: to the website, which had a heap of really great
- 18:50Speaker 7: resources for different events that they were throwing and things
- 18:53Speaker 7: like that. The theme this year is Healing Country, meaning
- 18:57Speaker 7: embracing the First Nation's cultural knowledge and understanding of as
- 19:00Speaker 7: a part of our national heritage, because it is such
- 19:03Speaker 7: a rich culture and they're genuinely so much fantastic history
- 19:07Speaker 7: and art that it's really great to absorb. And it's
- 19:10Speaker 7: not necessarily really prevalent. Yeah, you just don't see it
- 19:14Speaker 7: often enough, I think. And so we popped a thread
- 19:17Speaker 7: in on Monday and said, hey, share some of your
- 19:19Speaker 7: favorite First Nations creators and artists. And I thought maybe
- 19:23Speaker 7: we could just share some of our favorites. I've popped
- 19:26Speaker 7: a couple of mine on the thread. Definitely go have
- 19:28Speaker 7: a look at it. It's under our announcements and there's
- 19:30Speaker 7: so many great artisans there if you're looking for something
- 19:34Speaker 7: to purchase.
- 19:35Speaker 5: I also saw like on the news and on the
- 19:37Speaker 5: weather and stuff, instead of the western names for all
- 19:39Speaker 5: the capital cities that were using the traditional names, and
- 19:42Speaker 5: I thought that was really really cool.
- 19:44Speaker 7: But you know, Australia Post does that too. You can
- 19:46Speaker 7: elect to send your post with.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I just saw that recently. It's really cool.
- 19:50Speaker 4: What are you talking about.
- 19:51Speaker 7: They've adjusted the way you would write your address on
- 19:54Speaker 7: anything that you're sending, which is super duper cool. So
- 19:57Speaker 7: now instead of sending it Tissues in the Money one
- 19:59Speaker 7: SI's two Street, you would send it to She's on
- 20:02Speaker 7: the Money Warrangery Country one sixty two Collins Street, Melbourne,
- 20:05Speaker 7: which I think is so such a beautiful way to
- 20:07Speaker 7: acknowledge the lands that we are existing on and start
- 20:10Speaker 7: to use those names that I think have been really
- 20:12Speaker 7: lost over however many many many many days.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Yeah, decade is not long enough and add it into
- 20:19Speaker 5: our bokap exactly right.
- 20:20Speaker 7: And there's a really great link on the os Post
- 20:22Speaker 7: website to help you find the traditional nameplace of the
- 20:25Speaker 7: country that you are living on or sending to if
- 20:27Speaker 7: you need that.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Oh cool, I love that. So easy to add in
- 20:31Speaker 4: as well. Yeah, absolutely, I really like that.
- 20:33Speaker 3: That's actually such a special way of starting to reintroduce
- 20:36Speaker 3: things that have arguably been lost. And you know, I
- 20:39Speaker 3: didn't know about this stuff way back in school. I
- 20:41Speaker 3: wouldn't have had a clue, and now learning about it,
- 20:44Speaker 3: it just feels so special to be able to reconnect
- 20:47Speaker 3: with stuff like that and actually just respect that culture
- 20:50Speaker 3: because you know how much it means to the people
- 20:52Speaker 3: that really connect with it. And I feel like I
- 20:55Speaker 3: can't say that I have any relations who are Aboriginal
- 20:59Speaker 3: or Torres Straight Island, but like, I just really feel
- 21:01Speaker 3: for them having lost such a significant piece of their
- 21:04Speaker 3: culture that I go, no, you just have that respect,
- 21:07Speaker 3: Like I'd love that, Like maybe we should update it
- 21:09Speaker 3: on our website and put it there and people can,
- 21:11Speaker 3: you know, send their puscles that way, and you know,
- 21:14Speaker 3: it's just a really nice reminder when you get a
- 21:16Speaker 3: piece of mail that you know, this country has a
- 21:18Speaker 3: history and it's very special.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I was recently in New Zealand.
- 21:22Speaker 5: In Zealand, yeah, and was really surprised to see how
- 21:27Speaker 5: much moldy they use, like on all their signs, and
- 21:29Speaker 5: I love it.
- 21:30Speaker 6: Yeah. So my wife Bridge is from New Zealand, and
- 21:32Speaker 6: she was shocked at the opposite way about how little
- 21:35Speaker 6: how I did. Yeah, and she's like, oh, because back home,
- 21:38Speaker 6: it's like we learned languages at school and it was
- 21:40Speaker 6: just really common and in the workplace and years she's like, oh,
- 21:44Speaker 6: it was like I don't talk about it for decades,
- 21:46Speaker 6: and it's like, finally we're doing the smallest of yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 6: first steps to try.
- 21:50Speaker 7: And I don't know, there's a lot more to do,
- 21:52Speaker 7: but I think Naydoc Week and there's a number of
- 21:54Speaker 7: other celebrations throughout the year that are's super special and
- 21:56Speaker 7: really great to get around. But I thought we could
- 21:59Speaker 7: go around the table and all share our favorites either
- 22:01Speaker 7: from the thread or I know we all have some
- 22:03Speaker 7: businesses that we personally love to support as well.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Tony do to go. Yeah.
- 22:07Speaker 5: So I recently started following Warm a collective which is
- 22:10Speaker 5: an Aboriginal owned and family operated art, body.
- 22:13Speaker 1: And bath business.
- 22:15Speaker 5: And for anyone that knows me, I love a bath
- 22:20Speaker 5: and my boyfriend and I are about to move into
- 22:22Speaker 5: a house with a bus excited.
- 22:25Speaker 1: So it was a really great.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Art keep everybody updated on the bath update the bath situation.
- 22:30Speaker 5: So it was a great excuse for me to, you know,
- 22:32Speaker 5: go out and buy his bath stuff and it's all
- 22:36Speaker 5: Aboriginal owned and they've got some amazing like shower gels
- 22:40Speaker 5: and bath bombs and bubble bath and stuff and it's
- 22:43Speaker 5: all like traditional sense and it's all handmade and it's.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Really really gorgeous.
- 22:48Speaker 5: But I also have a sneaky other one. My best
- 22:50Speaker 5: friend Ayton is an Aboriginal woman and she's an artist.
- 22:54Speaker 5: And if you have a look at her Instagram at
- 22:56Speaker 5: Dartbreaker Underscore, you can find.
- 22:58Speaker 4: She does some cheeky picture.
- 23:00Speaker 5: Yeah, she does like these like nudy girls and it's
- 23:03Speaker 5: it's really really cool. But yeah, as an Aboriginal woman,
- 23:06Speaker 5: I love to support her by her art a lot.
- 23:08Speaker 5: So if it's something that you might.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Be into a look, pick up a little cheeky piece.
- 23:12Speaker 3: It's definitely on the theme of this episode speaking about.
- 23:17Speaker 4: So, I've got a couple.
- 23:19Speaker 3: So the first one. Both of these weren't in the thread,
- 23:21Speaker 3: which I was really surprised about.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Which is why I'm bringing them up.
- 23:24Speaker 3: The first one is a guy called Brad Turner and
- 23:27Speaker 3: he's an Aboriginal artist and I know this is she's
- 23:29Speaker 3: on the money, but like he's just such a special
- 23:32Speaker 3: human and does such beautiful pieces of work that I
- 23:34Speaker 3: wanted to share it. I've been creeping on his art
- 23:37Speaker 3: for a very long time, and one day I might
- 23:40Speaker 3: be able to afford an original piece.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Like he.
- 23:42Speaker 3: I guess he would know me, like just through Instagram,
- 23:45Speaker 3: Like if he's yeah, do you know Victoria de Vine, Like,
- 23:48Speaker 3: it wouldn't be like, oh, yeah, she's so nice. It
- 23:50Speaker 3: would be like, oh yeah, she replies to so many
- 23:52Speaker 3: of my stories with love, hard eyes, like kind of weird,
- 23:55Speaker 3: but that that's our relationship. So I'm assuming he knows
- 23:57Speaker 3: who I am, hopefully. And then there's second is actually
- 24:00Speaker 3: a friend of mine, and that's Aleirah Potter. So Alira
- 24:04Speaker 3: is Ah.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I follow her on Instagram.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Yeah, she's so beautiful and I met her at a
- 24:09Speaker 3: keeper Cleaner event earlier this year, and she's a creator,
- 24:12Speaker 3: a writer and a speaker and just a glowy human,
- 24:16Speaker 3: like literally a glowy you know those people that you
- 24:18Speaker 3: meet and you're like, wow, I want your energy around. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:22Speaker 3: Like she was just a glowy human. And Alira is
- 24:25Speaker 3: an Aboriginal woman who spreads so much love across the Internet,
- 24:28Speaker 3: and I just think everybody should go and follow her
- 24:30Speaker 3: because I just feel like I learned so much from
- 24:33Speaker 3: even just having her Instagram stories pop up, and like
- 24:36Speaker 3: she will share other black owned businesses, and she will
- 24:39Speaker 3: share really beautiful content that educates, and I think that
- 24:44Speaker 3: it's really special because it's not actually her job to
- 24:47Speaker 3: educate us. It's nobody's job to educate us except for ourselves.
- 24:51Speaker 3: And if you want to learn more about it, great,
- 24:52Speaker 3: go to the Nadok website and learn more. There's an
- 24:55Speaker 3: entire page on history that you can go and learn from.
- 24:59Speaker 3: But she's so giving with her time and so giving
- 25:02Speaker 3: with her energy and her content, and I just feel
- 25:04Speaker 3: like we can learn so much from absorbing it. And
- 25:07Speaker 3: like as much as nobody owes us anything when it
- 25:09Speaker 3: comes to education, like reading is one thing, but seeing
- 25:13Speaker 3: somebody's beautiful interpretation of what that means for her culture
- 25:16Speaker 3: and what that means for you know, how she interprets it,
- 25:19Speaker 3: it just it's so nice to see. Anyway, she doesn't
- 25:22Speaker 3: have a specific product to sell, but I just wanted
- 25:25Speaker 3: to share it because I just feel like it was
- 25:27Speaker 3: the right place to do that.
- 25:28Speaker 5: And also something as simple as following someone on Instagram,
- 25:31Speaker 5: you know, if you if you can't afford to buy
- 25:34Speaker 5: from a black owned business, you can donate. If you
- 25:37Speaker 5: don't have the money to do that, please just educate
- 25:39Speaker 5: yourselves about what you can do and support like content creators.
- 25:44Speaker 7: Following liking sharing is a saving saving absolutely like that,
- 25:48Speaker 7: get the algorithm, get them out there, get them in
- 25:50Speaker 7: front of your eyes. It's such a great way to
- 25:52Speaker 7: support people for free.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yep.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Right, as she also has a really really cute dog.
- 25:58Speaker 3: So if we have conced you so yet, she has
- 26:01Speaker 3: an incredibly cute dog, and like that's worth it in itself,
- 26:04Speaker 3: I agree.
- 26:05Speaker 6: Yeah, all right, Ash's message through this is her own business.
- 26:08Speaker 6: It's Little Black Duck teapots and I've been off the
- 26:12Speaker 6: Instagram page and the Facebook. They're incredible. Have you seen
- 26:15Speaker 6: the photos in the thread? So their aboriginal art like
- 26:18Speaker 6: painted over the teapots and stuff, but they're really bright
- 26:20Speaker 6: and colorful, beautiful, and it just reminds me of something
- 26:22Speaker 6: that's going to need to go into my mum's house
- 26:24Speaker 6: because my mum has colors everywhere. She loves aboriginal art.
- 26:27Speaker 6: So the combination of the two, Oh, they're so stunny. Right,
- 26:31Speaker 6: And that's her own business, So little Black Duck teapots.
- 26:34Speaker 6: Go and check them out.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Oh thanks for reaching out, Ash.
- 26:36Speaker 7: That's so fun. My favorite is I popped a couple
- 26:40Speaker 7: in the thread. But an artist in particular I followed
- 26:42Speaker 7: on Instagram for I reckon over two years now is
- 26:46Speaker 7: Nudderna And she does I know, and I.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Didn't say them because I knew that was going to
- 26:51Speaker 3: be your special share.
- 26:53Speaker 7: I'm so excited because she does beautiful artwork. Her colour
- 26:58Speaker 7: it's a really traditional style and her colors is in particular,
- 27:00Speaker 7: really speak to me personally, and they're very on brand
- 27:03Speaker 7: fishes in the money. There's a lot of pinks and
- 27:05Speaker 7: warms and it just it genuinely makes me feel warm
- 27:07Speaker 7: and happy looking at them. And Victoria, I'm so excited.
- 27:11Speaker 7: Let us order a piece for the office a couple
- 27:13Speaker 7: of weeks ago and it should.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Be with us really though.
- 27:15Speaker 1: It's going to be so stunning.
- 27:16Speaker 5: I cannot wait for its site.
- 27:19Speaker 4: It's so excited.
- 27:20Speaker 3: We're currently having arguments over whose desk it's going to
- 27:22Speaker 3: be closest.
- 27:24Speaker 7: Yeah, but her stuff is really beautiful and there are
- 27:26Speaker 7: a number of other artists on that thread. And if
- 27:29Speaker 7: you can't afford to buy original artworks, prints are a
- 27:31Speaker 7: really great option. That's what we went with, and you
- 27:33Speaker 7: can get all different custom sizes and it's just a
- 27:35Speaker 7: really fun way just bruce up your space.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Agreed, that was really special. I love that we should
- 27:41Speaker 4: do this more.
- 27:42Speaker 3: I just feel like there's so many great things in
- 27:44Speaker 3: our community that we can share in people doing cool things,
- 27:47Speaker 3: and like, even just looking through that thread, like how
- 27:50Speaker 3: creative are people? Like this is coming from someone who
- 27:52Speaker 3: can't draw stick figures, I'm just like, what do you mean?
- 27:55Speaker 4: Like, how are you guys? How is that correive? I know,
- 27:59Speaker 4: I even look.
- 27:59Speaker 3: At you guys because you guys are all creatives and
- 28:01Speaker 3: I'm the financial advisor and I'm like, oh, I wish
- 28:04Speaker 3: I was just so much cooler.
- 28:06Speaker 4: But you know, I've got you guys to stand behind
- 28:08Speaker 4: and make me look cool.
- 28:09Speaker 7: So far, so good.
- 28:10Speaker 3: So with that, I think it is time to head off.
- 28:13Speaker 3: But as always, just before we head off, we'd like
- 28:15Speaker 3: to acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal and torrest
- 28:19Speaker 3: Rait Islander people's they're the traditional custodians of the lands,
- 28:22Speaker 3: the waterways and the skies all across Australia. We thank
- 28:26Speaker 3: you for sharing the caring for the land on which
- 28:28Speaker 3: we are able to learn. We pay our respects to
- 28:30Speaker 3: elders past and present, and we share our friendship and
- 28:33Speaker 3: our kindness.
- 28:34Speaker 5: The advice shared on She's on the Money is generally
- 28:36Speaker 5: nature and does not consider your individual circumstances. She's on
- 28:40Speaker 5: the Money exists purely for educational purposes and should not
- 28:43Speaker 5: be relied upon to make an investment or financial decision.
- 28:46Speaker 5: And we promise that Victoria Devine is an authorized representative
- 28:50Speaker 5: of Australia Pacific Funds Management Proprietary Limited ABN three four
- 28:54Speaker 5: one three two four six three two five seven AFSL
- 28:57Speaker 5: three three nine one five to one.
- 28:58Speaker 4: What a guy? What a what a list of numbers?
- 29:02Speaker 1: Apparently they mean something.
- 29:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know what it is yet. I haven't
- 29:05Speaker 4: worked it out. Hopefully we can work it out by
- 29:07Speaker 4: next week. Say next week, guys
- 29:08Speaker 2: Love you, Bye bye
