Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: Hey everyone, Emily A Badi here bringing you another installment,
- 0:22Speaker 1: a five minute Friday from Hurdle Man. This is a
- 0:26Speaker 1: big week for hurdle. Let me tell you a lot
- 0:29Speaker 1: of people responding to feeling some kind of way about
- 0:33Speaker 1: Wednesday's Hurdle Moment episode talking about how to combat negative
- 0:40Speaker 1: self talk with talk Spaces Doctor Amy Servis. If you
- 0:44Speaker 1: haven't listened to that episode yet, I highly encourage you
- 0:48Speaker 1: to do so. I man, negative self talk is certainly
- 0:52Speaker 1: something that I have been dealing with lately. I feel
- 0:55Speaker 1: like I go through phases of being super positive and
- 0:59Speaker 1: have in my head on straight and utilizing a lot
- 1:02Speaker 1: of the different recommendations that doctor Service offered in Wednesday's episode.
- 1:07Speaker 1: But then I mean, just like everyone else, I go
- 1:11Speaker 1: through these phases where, like I just I can't shake it.
- 1:16Speaker 1: You know. The good news is that the momentum from
- 1:19Speaker 1: Wednesday's episode has me in a great place, and I
- 1:23Speaker 1: am just transparent on all of that, because I know
- 1:26Speaker 1: that it can feel really lonely when you're in a
- 1:30Speaker 1: place where you're talking down to yourself. But the good
- 1:33Speaker 1: news is that we are better than that. We can
- 1:37Speaker 1: move past that, and there are strategies as I mentioned
- 1:42Speaker 1: in Wednesday's episode to help you do so, so definitely
- 1:47Speaker 1: give that a listen, and also, of course shout out
- 1:50Speaker 1: to Emily Dinonado, as I mentioned on Monday, my personal
- 1:54Speaker 1: style icon model co founder of Covey. If you haven't
- 1:58Speaker 1: listened to Emily's backstory, someone else who struggled with negative
- 2:02Speaker 1: self talk really really awesome. And also in that episode,
- 2:07Speaker 1: she offered up a discount code too coveyskin dot com
- 2:11Speaker 1: that's cove e y ski n dot com to get
- 2:15Speaker 1: ten percent off her signature Covey Routine, which is a
- 2:19Speaker 1: three step DERM approved universal skincare ritual. I've been using
- 2:23Speaker 1: it this week and let me tell you, my skin
- 2:26Speaker 1: is feeling fabulous. I digress five Minute Friday For those
- 2:31Speaker 1: of you who may be newer to the show. What
- 2:34Speaker 1: I do here on Fridays offer up a story, talk
- 2:38Speaker 1: to you about something that's going on in my life,
- 2:40Speaker 1: offer you a thought prompt to take you into the weekend,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and then give you my highlights of the week, things
- 2:48Speaker 1: that I thought were really awesome content, things to watch,
- 2:52Speaker 1: things to read, podcasts to listen to, all that stuff.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I want to upfront in this episode promote leaving me
- 3:01Speaker 1: a voicemail. This week, my messages my dms were flooded
- 3:06Speaker 1: with questions, and I won't even lie. I did not
- 3:09Speaker 1: have enough time to get to all of them. So
- 3:12Speaker 1: a sure fire way to get your question answered, if
- 3:17Speaker 1: you have one for me and nothing is off limits
- 3:19Speaker 1: here is to leave me a voicemail. It's super simple.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It takes you to a web page. You can record
- 3:25Speaker 1: it on your phone. Easy, peasy done. So click on
- 3:30Speaker 1: over to the show notes, leave me a voicemail, and
- 3:33Speaker 1: I'll be back next Friday to answer some of my favorites.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Now this week, I mentioned this briefly yesterday on social media,
- 3:43Speaker 1: but I want to talk about focusing on doing one
- 3:47Speaker 1: thing at a time. So rewind to yesterday morning. I
- 3:51Speaker 1: am standing in my kitchen and I'm doing my like
- 3:55Speaker 1: pre work beverage routine. I know that's kind of funny
- 4:00Speaker 1: that I have one of those, but basically, I'm like
- 4:03Speaker 1: half dressed for my workday after getting out of the
- 4:06Speaker 1: shower and going to the gym, and I am shaking
- 4:10Speaker 1: up a bottle of athletic greens in my left hand,
- 4:12Speaker 1: and then I am pressing on to then espresso with
- 4:17Speaker 1: my right hand, and as that starts to get going.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'm opening the fridge as I'm shaking the bottle in
- 4:22Speaker 1: my left hand, I'm grabbing the Brita pitcher. I'm pouring
- 4:26Speaker 1: myself a glass of water. I'm still shaking with my
- 4:28Speaker 1: left hand. When I'm done pouring the glass of water,
- 4:31Speaker 1: I realized the coffee isn't done yet. So I walk
- 4:33Speaker 1: over to my bathroom and I'm like, oh, I'm gonna
- 4:34Speaker 1: put my hair in a low bun. Meanwhile, like I'm
- 4:37Speaker 1: still holding two beverage containers, Like how many things was
- 4:43Speaker 1: I trying to do at one time to quote unquote
- 4:47Speaker 1: save time? And literally, as I'm like walking toward the
- 4:52Speaker 1: bathroom with both of my beverage containers in my hand,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I stop dead in my tracks and I'm just like,
- 5:00Speaker 1: ah M, slow down, do one thing at a time,
- 5:08Speaker 1: like going into the day. Yesterday, I knew it was
- 5:11Speaker 1: going to feel a little bit like Everest. I had
- 5:13Speaker 1: a huge feature article that I was working on a
- 5:16Speaker 1: bunch of interviews to do. Monday's episode is going to
- 5:19Speaker 1: be spoiler alert featuring Massy Arias. I'm so excited to
- 5:24Speaker 1: bring that to you guys, And I actually recorded that
- 5:28Speaker 1: yesterday with her, so I just had a lot on deck.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I knew I was gonna have to get organized. I
- 5:34Speaker 1: knew that I was going to have to focus. And
- 5:37Speaker 1: so in that moment when I was trying to do
- 5:39Speaker 1: a zillion things at once, I just kind of grounded
- 5:42Speaker 1: myself and I was like, yo, am, take a deep breath,
- 5:47Speaker 1: have some grace with yourself, make yourself, you know, get organized,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and then sit down and do one thing and one
- 5:57Speaker 1: thing only at a time period. And sometimes, like making
- 6:02Speaker 1: it that simple can be the game changer, right. I
- 6:06Speaker 1: feel like before the pandemic pre COVID, I prided myself
- 6:11Speaker 1: and being this high caliber multitasker. But the reality is
- 6:15Speaker 1: that studies have actually shown that multitasking can be bad
- 6:18Speaker 1: for you. Like, yes, the dopamine hit that can come
- 6:22Speaker 1: hand in hand with the brain stimulation associated with multitasking
- 6:26Speaker 1: might feel nice, But you know what's really nice being
- 6:30Speaker 1: present and enjoying the taste of your coffee as you
- 6:34Speaker 1: take a deep breath and having meaningful conversations with the
- 6:38Speaker 1: people you care about without holding your phone in your
- 6:41Speaker 1: right hand, one thing at a time. I know you
- 6:45Speaker 1: can do it, and trust me, when you give all
- 6:49Speaker 1: of your focus to that one thing you're gonna feel
- 6:52Speaker 1: a lot less stressed. Prompt for you this week, What's
- 6:56Speaker 1: one thing that you've been putting off that you can
- 6:59Speaker 1: check off your list right now? Again, What's one thing
- 7:04Speaker 1: you've been putting off this week that you can check
- 7:06Speaker 1: off your to do list right now? Highlights of the
- 7:10Speaker 1: Week links to all this good stuff in the show notes.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Check it out. On Transgender Day of Visibility on Wednesday,
- 7:16Speaker 1: Nicki Hilts wrote a really beautiful post coming out about
- 7:21Speaker 1: gender identity note on Instagram. She says that her preferred
- 7:24Speaker 1: pronouns are she they. She also shared yesterday on Twitter,
- 7:29Speaker 1: There's nothing like the morning after coming out. This morning,
- 7:34Speaker 1: there are nerves, excitement, and a heart full of gratitude.
- 7:37Speaker 1: All I can say is thank you. It feels so
- 7:40Speaker 1: good to be seen. I loved that. I honestly wish
- 7:43Speaker 1: this level of contentment for everyone listening to this. And
- 7:47Speaker 1: I know that every person that does what Nicki did,
- 7:51Speaker 1: every person that vocalizes their journey, they make other people
- 7:56Speaker 1: going through similar circumstances feel so much less alone. Read
- 8:02Speaker 1: My Mom taught me that my mind is my strongest
- 8:05Speaker 1: muscle by Tundae Oyenane. I recently had Tunday on the show.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Such an amazing episode. I'll throw that in the show
- 8:12Speaker 1: notes as well. She this week shared a letter that
- 8:15Speaker 1: she wrote to her mother on the website Well and Good.
- 8:17Speaker 1: She's reflecting on the power and grace that she instilled
- 8:21Speaker 1: in her and let me tell you it is a
- 8:24Speaker 1: tear jerker. Listen Demi Levado on Joe Rogan. I've watched
- 8:29Speaker 1: all of the segments of the Demi Levado docu series,
- 8:33Speaker 1: Demi Lovado Dancing with the Devil. It's on YouTube Originals.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I've watched all of that, and then I'm still admittedly
- 8:41Speaker 1: going through this episode of Joe Rogan because it's two
- 8:44Speaker 1: hours and thirty minutes, but man like learning about Debbie
- 8:48Speaker 1: Lolado and what she's been through and hearing her like
- 8:51Speaker 1: finally just it seems like step into her power is
- 8:57Speaker 1: It's something, And just the honest coma that she has
- 9:02Speaker 1: with Joe is really refreshing, because I think a lot
- 9:05Speaker 1: of the time that's not exactly what we get from celebrities.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Read sleep Coach update incorporating menstrual cycle phase for increased accuracy.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Any guy listening to this, you are welcome, whether or
- 9:20Speaker 1: not your Whoop user I find their blog The Locker
- 9:23Speaker 1: really informational, super interesting. They recently put up a blog
- 9:27Speaker 1: in honor of adding menstrul tracking into their journal feature. Basically,
- 9:32Speaker 1: it covers the physiological changes caused by the menstrual cycle
- 9:36Speaker 1: and the effect that hormonal birth control has on it,
- 9:39Speaker 1: explaining a lot of things that, to be honest, I
- 9:42Speaker 1: don't know if I fully understood before, so definitely definitely
- 9:45Speaker 1: click into the show notes and give that one a read.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That's it for this week. Book Club is coming in
- 9:51Speaker 1: nineteen days. We are reading the Art of Gathering and
- 9:54Speaker 1: meeting on April twentieth. In the next week or so,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I will release the Zoom registration link, so stay tuned
- 10:02Speaker 1: down that and again I can't promote enough. Leave me
- 10:06Speaker 1: a voice message. Click on over to the show notes.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I would love to hear from you. Make sure you're
- 10:11Speaker 1: following along with Hurdle. It's at Hurdle Podcast and I
- 10:14Speaker 1: am over at Emily a Body Another hurdle conquered. Catch
- 10:19Speaker 1: you guys next time.
