- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in today's episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a an alcohol
- 0:48reduction hypnosis session created for a client that wanted
- 0:53to reduce their alcohol consumption just to two or three
- 0:58drinks, maybe 1 bottle of wine on let's say, a Friday or a
- 1:03Saturday. They didn't want to be drinking
- 1:04every day. And what had happened is that a
- 1:08couple of things had reached a point of feeling stressed,
- 1:12feeling overwhelmed, and then alcohol felt really appealing in
- 1:16that moment. So what you're going to hear in
- 1:18this session is. Treating that as.
- 1:20Reconnaissance, it then gives us this ability to say right, well,
- 1:25if alcohol currently is up the list as a coping strategy for
- 1:29stress, we need to have better coping strategies for stress so
- 1:33that alcohol falls all the way down the list so that even if
- 1:37they're stressed alcohol doesn't seem like it's going to help in
- 1:40that situation. So it is a two things really,
- 1:44alcohol reduction, but also stress reduction or providing
- 1:49alternative coping strategies for stress so that alcohol
- 1:53becomes less appealing in that context.
- 1:57If you drink alcohol as a way to reduce stress, actually this is,
- 2:03it's not an addiction, but it can lead to an addiction because
- 2:07alcohol temporarily does make the level of stress go down.
- 2:11And therefore you're rewarding yourself every time you you
- 2:14drink if you're feeling stressed and, and that can create
- 2:18addictive loops. So if you're feeling stressed
- 2:20knowing that no emotion lasts forever and you can manage it in
- 2:24a different way, then actually what you'll find is that alcohol
- 2:29becomes less necessary and more optional.
- 2:33And when it's optional then you can take it or leave it which.
- 2:36Itself is very. Empowering What's also worth
- 2:40bearing in mind when it comes to alcohol is that it will have a
- 2:43huge element of a placebo effect, the ritual of opening a
- 2:48bottle. Of beer or.
- 2:49Pouring a glass of wine and taking your shoes off or just
- 2:53kind of sitting on a couch watching TV with that, there'll
- 2:55be other things that contribute to the relaxation that have
- 2:58nothing to do with the alcohol. Because a lot of people say,
- 3:01well, immediately that first sip of wine, they feel more relaxed.
- 3:06It takes about 20 minutes for the alcohol to actually enter
- 3:10the bloodstream. So therefore that relaxation
- 3:12can't be coming from the alcohol, it has to be coming.
- 3:15From the belief. That it's helping and these are
- 3:18the things that will help you to be free of this idea that
- 3:21alcohol is necessary to reduce stress.
- 3:25It can be, it can link to it, but it isn't necessary.
- 3:28There are lots of other things that can do that as well.
- 3:30If you feel like you're struggling with alcohol and
- 3:33maybe you you drink when you're stressed or drink when you're
- 3:35anxious, that can change. This session itself may help.
- 3:39But if you do feel like a customized session might be
- 3:41useful for you, then there will be a link in the show notes so
- 3:44you can check out my website adamcox.co.uk and book a free
- 3:48consultation Call there. For now though, find a quiet,
- 3:51comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 3:53Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 4:59you breathe in, imagine breathing in a feeling of pure
- 5:07relaxation. Get the sense of that relaxation
- 5:13going in through your nose into your lungs.
- 5:16And just imagine as you exhale, a steady sense that any stress,
- 5:27any tension, is gradually but consistently leaving your body
- 5:37in your outward breath. And when you breathe in, breathe
- 5:46in deeper than you did before. And as you exhale, allow that
- 5:56outward breath to be longer. Feel the stress or tension
- 6:06leaving your body, almost like you're breathing towards a
- 6:13candle several meters away, really emptying your lungs.
- 6:21And when you breathe in, breathe in even deeper than before,
- 6:29breathing in that distilled relaxation, a resourceful
- 6:34feeling of relaxation. Breathing in what your body
- 6:40needs and giving yourself permission to let go of any
- 6:49unresourceful emotions, particularly stress.
- 6:57Feel stress leaving your body not only in your outward breath.
- 7:05Imagine it melting away. Imagine it evaporating.
- 7:14Imagine it disintegrating. Just imagine all of that stress
- 7:19gradually disappearing into nothingness, and yet you're
- 7:25still breathing in that resourceful relaxation.
- 7:34As your body relaxes, your imagination awakens.
- 7:41And I want you to imagine a hot tub that overlooks a mountain
- 7:51range. Just imagine wearing whatever
- 7:55clothing is suitable to be really enjoying that hot tub.
- 8:04Imagine the temperature of the water is exactly the temperature
- 8:13to maximize your relaxation. Not too hot and not too cold,
- 8:23just the right temperature to really enjoy bathing in that
- 8:30water. I want you to imagine it's not
- 8:37sunset, but getting close. I want you to get a sense that
- 8:44there is a glow, perhaps a glow in the sky, but also a glow on
- 8:53you. I want you to get a sand then.
- 9:00That glow? Of the sun is melting away any
- 9:03remaining tension and stress and a feeling of the water on your
- 9:08skin in that hot tub helps you feel deeper and deeper.
- 9:15Relaxed. Maybe you could imagine the
- 9:20water gently bubbling around you, or perhaps the water is
- 9:27still and it's just the temperature you can notice.
- 9:32But the combination of the views and the warmth and the water
- 9:39gives you a wonderful feeling of pure relaxation.
- 9:49And we need to get a sense of when you look at those distant
- 9:53mountains, just imagine any work related worries or stresses are
- 10:04all the way over there behind the mountains.
- 10:09When the time comes to think about them, those thoughts will
- 10:13return. But not now.
- 10:16Now those thoughts don't need to be in your head to just place
- 10:21them behind the mountains. And notice when you do that you
- 10:27feel lighter, freer, able to enjoy your free time,
- 10:32particularly weekends and evenings.
- 10:39And notice that when you feel relaxed, when you port any
- 10:45worries and thoughts far away, there is no need to feel a
- 10:53desire to drink, and if you do, it's purely for recreation and
- 10:59not self medication. From this point onwards, you no
- 11:06longer need any form of alcohol to deal with stress because you
- 11:12realize there is so many other options here in this hot tub.
- 11:19In your imagination, you feel deeply at peace here, relaxed
- 11:27and safe. Just before you fully drift off
- 11:33in that warmth of the hot tub, I want you to remember a time when
- 11:41you were walking a dog. Also, on a sunny day, I want you
- 11:51to imagine rolling hills and trees and blue skies and maybe
- 12:01old buildings like a church that you could see.
- 12:06You could imagine being in the hot tub, imagining that you're
- 12:09walking a dog and in doing so feel that fresh air, feel
- 12:19invigorated while also relaxed, feeling that any stresses and
- 12:25worries are far, far away. They don't need to be with you
- 12:32while you're walking the dog in that picturesque countryside.
- 12:43Imagine looking at the dog having so much fun.
- 12:47A friendly, happy dog wagging its tail through rural
- 12:51countryside. What if this is a blueprint, a
- 12:58tip? Why is it that dogs don't carry
- 13:03so much stress? Dogs are experts at mindfulness,
- 13:11being in the moment and every time you see your dog looking
- 13:18cheerful, wagging its tail, just enjoying a belly rub or a
- 13:24stroke, to get a sense that that ability to be mindful also
- 13:30applies to you. Anxieties when you think about
- 13:37the future. Regret is when you think about
- 13:41the past. But there is power in the now,
- 13:46in the moment, because in the moment is the only moment that
- 13:51is ever real. I want you to get a sense that
- 13:57as you imagine walking that countryside, perhaps you can
- 14:06imagine flowers or trees, birds in the sky.
- 14:14I want you to think about a time when you were just relaxing at
- 14:17home. You get a sense, then you could
- 14:26imagine being in a hot tub, imagining that you're taking a
- 14:28dog. For a walk.
- 14:29While then imagining being at home on a reclining lounger with
- 14:37a particular scent in the air. Feel how good it feels to just
- 14:44unwind at home. No need for a drink.
- 14:54That smell, that rate of breathing, feeling of just
- 15:03relaxing now gives you a sense that all you need to relax is to
- 15:13give yourself permission to relax.
- 15:21And as you lay there, feeling the softness of that reclining
- 15:27lounge, with the scent drifting through the room, giving you
- 15:34permission to just unwind completely, your mind begins to
- 15:41drift. And maybe as your awareness
- 15:46gently moves inward, you begin to think about how in the past
- 15:54you would automatically reach for a glass of wine, as if it
- 15:59was the only way to unwind. But what if now something has
- 16:06shifted, not just in thought, but deep within you,
- 16:12unconsciously? What if your body and your
- 16:16nervous system now craves other things instead?
- 16:24Movement. Laughter, walking in nature,
- 16:31relaxing in warm water, breathing deeply, Music at a
- 16:41frequency that makes relaxation effortless.
- 16:50Some people find journaling a great way to get thoughts of
- 16:56their head in a place where they can look at them later.
- 17:03Some people find solitude and silence the perfect way to
- 17:10really unwind. Some people find a particular
- 17:16drink, maybe a particular blend of tea or iced tea.
- 17:25We're just watching the sky change colour or clouds drift by
- 17:34happens to work for them. And what if that old belief that
- 17:42wine was either the only way or the best way to deal with
- 17:45stress? What if that belief has crumbled
- 17:49now? What if your own life tells you
- 17:54that there are so many other ways, ways that leave no regret,
- 18:03no guilt, no disappointment, no feeling crossed, breaking your
- 18:09own standards, no tiredness or cloudy morning after.
- 18:18And now when you do drink wine, feel that your unconscious has
- 18:28calibrated a new natural limit. Maybe in the past that natural
- 18:35limit was 2 bottles, and when you got close to that limit,
- 18:42sometimes it would mean drinking to excess hangovers the next
- 18:47day, sometimes even blackouts. I want you to allow your
- 18:55unconscious to set the new limit, an unconscious limit at 1
- 19:01bottle and when you get close to that.
- 19:05One bottle limit. Your desire goes all the way
- 19:09down, almost like it's repulsive or just undesirable or bland to
- 19:20you. What if you feel no desire to
- 19:27drink more than a? Bottle.
- 19:30And if that bottle were ever exceeded, what if your body gave
- 19:35you clues, but you began to feel something change inside you?
- 19:44Perhaps your mind would help you naturally set this limit.
- 19:51Maybe you notice then. More than a bottle.
- 19:56You can't help but think that the wine is corroding your
- 19:59stomach, burning your gut lining.
- 20:08I wonder if you can imagine it now.
- 20:10More than a bottle. Burning, bubbling, damaging the
- 20:15very centre of your well-being. Doesn't feel relaxing, could
- 20:22even feel toxic and corrosive. And maybe emotionally it's worse
- 20:31over a bottle. Feels like fuelling anxiety or
- 20:39disappointment. Maybe it feels like breaking a
- 20:43promise to yourself, like falling short of the new
- 20:48standard that you've created. I want you to feel that this new
- 20:56you knows their worth, values their peace, and appreciates
- 21:03their power. Doesn't it feel good to set a
- 21:09new standard and meet that standard?
- 21:14What, if anything under a bottle makes you feel proud and in
- 21:17control? Healthy.
- 21:23Anything above that makes you feel sick and anxious and tired.
- 21:32I want you to feel that you are in control now, not because you
- 21:37force yourself, but because it's who you are becoming.
- 21:45Feel that it's easier than ever to stop just two or three
- 21:51glasses, or even less. Whatever you think of wine or
- 21:58alcohol, make it a black and white image in your head.
- 22:02Feel like it's small and distant, just doesn't call you
- 22:07anymore. It no longer pulls you the way
- 22:10that it used to. Instead, your unconscious begins
- 22:16to steer you toward sense of peace and tranquility, towards
- 22:21pride. And what if that means that you
- 22:25get more deep sleep, more clarity in the morning, and
- 22:31energy that lasts? What if you've been taking
- 22:39future energy to deal with the moment and then drinking wine to
- 22:46deal with the stress, All of that cortisol in your blood, but
- 22:51then that affects your sleep and then you feel tired the next
- 22:53day. I wonder how good it would feel
- 22:57to break a cycle. You feel less stressed.
- 23:03And when you do feel stressed, you deal with stress in
- 23:08different ways. You drink perhaps 70 or 80% less
- 23:15than you were. Your body has more energy, more
- 23:20clarity, and therefore more of these situations gets managed
- 23:29well and you feel even less stressed.
- 23:30What if this whole cycle can work in the opposite way?
- 23:37The more energy you have, the more accomplished you feel, the
- 23:44more resilient you feel, and the less stress you notice.
- 23:49And anytime a moment of stress or discomfort arises, you will
- 23:55find your mind automatically exploring other options, like
- 24:01tools on a belt or or resources within you.
- 24:12And they work because you work. I want you to feel you're worthy
- 24:20effort, feel sense of duty, of care, of peace.
- 24:33It's time to leave this place in your mind.
- 24:37Can you imagine that You're no longer on that lounger smelling
- 24:43that incense. You're actually walking a dog
- 24:50through beautiful countryside and then realise this is a
- 24:56thought within a different thought.
- 24:58And you're actually there in a hot tub overlooking mountains
- 25:07behind which your problems are far, far away.
- 25:13But even that, it's just a thought within a thought, an
- 25:18idea within an idea, a dream within a dream.
- 25:21And actually here you are, right now, in the moment, here,
- 25:28listening to me. So take a deep breath in through
- 25:32your nose and out through your nose.
- 25:37Swiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 25:39Start to connect and calibrate the here and the now.
- 25:43Very soon I will count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 25:48But you will awaken with a whole new level of self-control, a
- 25:54deep respect and care for your body, and a quiet, lasting
- 26:00desire to live a life that doesn't need more than two or
- 26:05three drinks and most of the time doesn't need it at all.
- 26:13Starting to count to awaken you 123 Waking up 456 More alert 7
- 26:21eights Open your eyes, Open your eyes 910.
