Transcript
- 0:01To understand how to make an avoidant miss you, you first
- 0:05have to understand how avoidance look at interpersonal
- 0:08relationships. If you have an anxious
- 0:11attachment style, it will be the total opposite of how you look
- 0:16at relationships, which is probably why your avoidant
- 0:20pulled away or broke up with you in the 1st place.
- 0:23So how can you make them miss you and want you back?
- 0:27Stay tuned and you'll find out. Hi, this is Lucia with the Art

- 1:19So when people first hear about the avoidant attachment style,
- 1:24they mistakenly think that it means that avoidance avoid
- 1:28relationships and don't want to be in relationships.
- 1:31And that's just not true. They do want to be in
- 1:34relationships, however they do not want to have 100% intimacy
- 1:42within that relationship. They'll only let you go so far
- 1:46before you hit a wall that you just can't seem to get past, and
- 1:51if there's an issue they would prefer to withdraw or avoid
- 1:54discussing it. They find it hard to trust
- 1:58someone 100% and they definitely do not want to be dependent on
- 2:03their partner. Both male and female avoidance
- 2:07see themselves as strong, independent, autonomous and
- 2:11self-sufficient. And this is because when they
- 2:15were a child their Co work. Not Co workers, their
- 2:19caretakers, maybe their Co workers.
- 2:21No, no, their caretakers weren't there for them and even if they
- 2:25were there physically, they weren't there for them.
- 2:30So they had no choice but to become independent and depend
- 2:35only on themselves. So trying to make an avoidant be
- 2:39less independent and more intimate will always be met with
- 2:45resistance. Look at it this way, their
- 2:49independence and self-sufficiency is similar to
- 2:54the security blanket or the teddy bear that most of us had
- 2:58as children. Being alone and independent is
- 3:02their security blanket, their teddy bear.
- 3:06And if you try to take away a child's blanket or bear, they
- 3:11will kick and scream and yell and fight.
- 3:14They will fight you. So the same happens with an
- 3:17adult who has an avoidant attachment style.
- 3:21By trying to get them to move too quickly or be intimate
- 3:25beyond what they are currently capable of, you will get the
- 3:29same reaction. Except as an adult, they may not
- 3:33kick and scream, at least I hope not, but they will pull away and
- 3:37ignore you. So keep this in mind as we
- 3:40discuss how to make an avoidant miss you.
- 3:43Now, I haven't mentioned this before, and that is to post less
- 3:50on social media. Usually I say to not change any
- 3:53of your posting habits. But when you're dealing with an
- 3:57avoidant, posting less will actually work in your favor
- 4:02because they're going to be expecting you to post a lot to
- 4:05try to get their attention. And when you don't, they won't
- 4:09get the dopamine hit they would usually get from seeing your
- 4:13posts, and you'll also be a mystery to them.
- 4:19And avoidance love mysteries. So by posting less, this allows
- 4:25them to miss you sooner rather than later.
- 4:30And avoidance can't really miss you until you're actually gone
- 4:34and they think they've lost you. I'm sure you've heard this
- 4:37before, so if you're listening to this, you probably have an
- 4:42anxious attachment style. So it's going to be hard for you
- 4:45to just let go and disappear because whenever someone pulls
- 4:49away or breaks up with you, your first instinct is to run towards
- 4:53them and to talk to them and to try to fix it and work things
- 4:56out. But for avoidance, it's the
- 4:59total opposite. They want to get away from you
- 5:04for the reason which I explained above, and once they feel that
- 5:08they're safe from you reaching out and trying to get them back,
- 5:13that's when they'll finally be able to relax enough to finally
- 5:17start missing you. That's why it's important to go
- 5:21into no contact sooner rather than later, especially if you're
- 5:25dealing with an avoidant ex. When you leave your ex alone,
- 5:31there's no chance of you triggering them with what they
- 5:34perceive as needing us. You're not asking to talk about
- 5:39things, you're not trying to get close.
- 5:42You've completely vanished. So they can go back to their
- 5:45baseline, to how they felt before they were triggered and
- 5:48felt the need to get away from you.
- 5:50And only once they get back to that place can they start to
- 5:54miss you. That's why the two drink trick
- 5:59works so well. And if you don't know what that
- 6:03is, basically what you do is you post a photo or a video of
- 6:10usually 2 drinks. It can be two plates at a
- 6:13location, a restaurant, a bar, and you want to make it look
- 6:17like you're on a date. But they can't know for sure,
- 6:20right? You could be out with a
- 6:22girlfriend or a guy friend, but people are going to of course
- 6:26jump to conclusions and assume you're on a date.
- 6:31So with an avoidant, this can go either way in the sense that
- 6:38they'll realize that you're gone because you've moved on and are
- 6:42seeing someone else, and they will start to miss you.
- 6:46Or they'll realize that you're gone and have moved on and
- 6:52there's no point in thinking about trying to get you back.
- 6:55Don't freak out. So what determines what reaction
- 7:00they'll have? Well, as usual, it's their
- 7:02interest level and how much of an ego they have.
- 7:06So if they have a big ego and they're very interested, it'll
- 7:10be a challenge for them to get you back.
- 7:13A challenge in the sense that they will happily take it on.
- 7:16It's like what? They're not going to date
- 7:18someone else, I'm getting the back.
- 7:20However, if they're not that interested and they're not that
- 7:24confident or don't have that big of an ego, then they'll think,
- 7:27well, there's no point in trying to get them back.
- 7:30So you have to think about which category your ex would fall
- 7:34into. And also timing is very
- 7:38important with the two drink trick.
- 7:40You can't do it too soon or they'll see it as a ploy to get
- 7:44them back and they won't believe that you found someone else that
- 7:47soon. Or they'll think you had someone
- 7:50else all along and now they don't trust you so why would
- 7:55they want you back? Because trust is very important
- 7:58for avoidance. So you want to wait at least two
- 8:00months and the reason for that is because of the 60 day no
- 8:06contact rule which I talked about in my video of the same
- 8:10title and I will put the link in the right hand corner on
- 8:13YouTube. We want to give them a chance to
- 8:15reach out to you. And if they don't, then two
- 8:19months is a respectable amount of time for someone to start
- 8:23dating and start moving on. They can't accuse you of having
- 8:27someone else because you're posting drinks at least two
- 8:30months after the breakup. You're not posting them two days
- 8:33or two weeks later, right? And you also need to give them
- 8:39time to date other people and see that they cannot replace
- 8:45you. You're not easily replaceable,
- 8:48and in the meantime, you've done no contact.
- 8:51They haven't heard from you, they haven't found anybody else.
- 8:55So it's a lot easier to miss you, especially if they've just
- 8:58been dumped by someone else. So finally, I'm going to say
- 9:04that you have to give them the time to start fantasizing about
- 9:08you again and to romanticize you and your time together.
- 9:14And if you're having a hard time with that, as most anxiously
- 9:17attached people do, I suggest you read the book Anxiously
- 9:21Attached by Jessica Baum. If you're watching this on
- 9:25YouTube, the link is underneath. And if you find you still need
- 9:29more help than I would suggest you also consider therapy.
- 9:33OK, so now I want to hear from you.
- 9:35How long have you been in no contact and how is it going?
- 9:39And in the meantime, if you would like my help to get your
- 9:41ex back, you can contact me at theartoflove.net/coaching and we
- 9:48will send you the rates. They are not on the website and
- 9:51the link to that is underneath every single video and podcast.
- 9:55If you found this video helpful, please like, subscribe, and
- 9:57share. If you're listening to this as a
- 9:59podcast, the best way to help is to download the episode.
- 10:05Okay. And in the meantime, remember,
